Default exercise only 3 days a week?

Im in the 3rd week and Ive been calorie counting and exercising but only doing exercise 3 days a week. I dont want to start out doing 5 days a week because when I hit a plateau what am I going to do to fix it? So I figure Ill go for 3 days and slowly work my way up by adding more time then adding more days. Does this sound like an ok idea? Ive lost some weight and on my off days Im not just sitting around watching tv I do a lot of house work so Im hoping that could make up for my non gym days!

I don't think that this sounds bad, but I hope someone with some experience can add their insight. It is my first week exercising again after a few years and I tried doing it every day, but I am getting really sore. I'm thinking about backing off from the tough work outs every other day and just doing something light like taking a walk or stretching.

Just a little fyi...Jillian Michaels was on one of those late night talk shows the other night and says she only works out 3 times a week. She said it's mostly about the diet. So it seems like you are on the right track. Good luck!

3 days a week is a great start. Some people don't even get a chance to work out that much! I go for at least 5, but that's just because I eat a lot better when I'm also exercising and I need that to keep me in line!

Sounds like you're off to a great start. Any exercise is good exercise and as long as you're making the effort, it will be beneficial. Good luck!

3 days is perfectly fine, just make sure to really push yourself during those times.

I think 3days a week is good. What goes in the mouth is more important especially when many people lose without exercising at all.

Yea I had a friend who lost atleast 30 lbs maybe more, from just changing her diet! I know once and awhile she went for a walk but nothing routine or often. I just feel like I need to do some exercise or Ill feel like Im not giving it enough effort

I am using an increase in exercise to blast through an anticipated plateau at 180 - I maintained at 180 for a long time, and was trying to diet lower but wasn't making it, and then gained 12 lbs by eating too many fast food fish meals due to an out-of-freaking-control schedule. Seriously. I would eat an Arby's fish sammie in 3 bites while running back to my car. Anyhoo - I have never exercised vigorously, until now, and I am focusing on building muscles to help power myself down below the 180 mark without having to drop my calories severely. I do, however, take a nice long walk on most days. Except these days because it is freaking freezing COLDCOLDCOLDCOLD out there! I am not going out in that. If million dollar bills started raining from the sky, I don't know if I'd go outside.

Yes, working out 3 days/week is a very good start. It's the quality not the quantity that counts ... Your food intakeis 80% of the weightloss equation, you need to eat right to lose weight, exercise is secondary but nonetheless very very important and not to be overlooked.

I'd go even further and say in the weight loss phase, how you manage your food is 98% of the equation. 3 x per week is fine.
