When I read that you went for a walk today, I had to check your location... ah... California, that explains it! It has just been so bitterly cold in Pittsburgh for the last few days that I can't bear the thought of being outside!
Best of luck as you strive towards your birthday goal!

david, definitely you can do it. Every pound lost is one closer to your goal and that walk was the first step (pun intended). Great job!

Welcome David. Nice to have a male in the mix. Normally I would say 50 lbs in 6 months is an ambitious goal but in general men lose more quickly than women so I'm sure it is doable for you. Just remember it is about what you eat more than how much you exercise. The exercise is a bonus.

Welcome to the group David. As you said you know how to do this it's a matter of doing it for life. I dropped my first 30+ lbs. the first six months but have spent the last 6 maintaining. Time for me to get back to what works.
Come join us on the weekly threads. It's a great way to get/give daily support.

Welcome David! My DH started his weight loss journey at 300 lbs, and since March of 09 he's taken off 60 lbs and is running 6 miles a day. (He's 44) His ultimate goal was 100 lbs, but he's so much happier and healthier now. Baby steps...started walking and doing stairs, added a few minutes of running time each week, and now he's joined a gym, running and adding work-outs. (since we live in Alaska, running outside this time of year is sketchy)
Good luck, I know you can do it!

Talk about regional, cultural differences; I've never heard the term "spare the air day" and at first I thought you were being metaphorical re: burning as many leaves as you could. I was turning over the metaphor in my mind, trying to figure it out, when I then saw the phrase "eucalyptus trees". Eucalyptus trees??! How exotic... here we just have oaks, maples, and apples!
Re: your earlier question, the state of disbelief is just a corner of my mind... But I live in Pittsburgh, having transplanted from Massachusetts. I've spent a fair amount of time in California for business back in the day, but it was almost always northern Cal, Silicon Valley.
