Gary, are you telling me you were a freshman at 15 ?? I was a sophomore at 15 , so there.!!
Sorta reminds me of Jeff Foxworthy,
If you refer to the fifth grade as your senior year, you might be a redneck.

I turned 15 in January of my sophomore year....

But, the Freshman 15 I know about refers to the 15-lb gain many people have in college - going from an active high schooler eating mom's cooking to being a college student, eating at a dining hall, drinking beer, etc. :)

I turned 16 in Feb. of my sophomore year...and yes...having 4 kids go through college here starting in 2000 I have heard all the freshman 15 stories...luckily it didn't hit my kids....but I think my nephew gained 10 in the NAVY this last year....fast fooder that he is....

Gary will understand the drinking beer part!

It gets cold in Northern California , too. And I have heard a rumor that some people, living in California use electric blankets !!!!

cathydoe

They live in the mountains while I llive in the valley. I can go outside and look torward the mountains and see the snow but I don't get snowed in. I'll take the valley, thank you. Happy New Year, everybody! May 2010 bring you all every good thing you wish for and a few you hadn't thought of.
Bargoo, I do know it gets cold in California. When I lived in Davis, we used to often get a period in winter when the temps never hit 40 F and there was pea soup fog. This could last for weeks. Freezing was not unusual in winter and we even had snow on occasion.
Right now here in Amsterdam, although cold, it is a beautifully clear day. Great start to the new year

'Twas the month after Christmas,
and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste at the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales
there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store
(less a walk than a lumber).
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;

The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt---
I said to myself, as only I can
" You can't spend a winter disguised as a man! "

So--away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chips

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
" Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want to chew only on a long celery stick.

I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore---
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!"

The weather folks keep saying we are gonna get a snow dump. The inches vary from station to station...it looks like snow outside. I bet the grocery store is buzzing. Why do people panic? I mean really? How many days will we be snowed in? One, maybe, but doubtful!

zanheltangia
01-07-2010, 12:55 PM
So you like the digital frames? Are they easy to put together, I mean picture viewing wise - do they distort the images, squishing or blurring in any way? can you change the transition effects, randomize the order of the pics, etc? They plug into the wall outlets right or use batteries?

I was thinking of picking up one myself for the office, something to glance at to keep up my 'got-to-keep-working' spirit.

G'ah, I'm so antsy, I just want to hop up from my desk, push open the office's entrance door and start walking. Bleh! two and a half hours left, probably won't want to walk when I get home.

I can't tell you much about the digital frames. I'm still going through pictures to put on it. It has 128 MB internal memory so not sure just how many pictures that is. I do know there is a random option and slide show. And on this one you can even have the date and time..not sure on any of it yet though. It does have a space for a memory card but I'm not sure how to use it either. I don't know if you can transfer pictures to the memory card from your computer.. That would be nice since I have a 256 MB and a 2 GB memory card. Still not understanding it all. Sorry I am not much help there.

Gee Gary, you made me blush---:thanks:

Well, we are going to get up to a great big 4 degrees tomorrow!!! Kids have been out of school around here for about 3 weeks now, 2 for Christmas break and one because it is too cold! Fifty is a nice year, or so I've heard :) 'bout half-way there myself but my Mom has had fun with it ;).

Thanks for the information, Karen.
Yeah, you can get a decent number of pictures on the 128 mb, but yeah, if you can connect your memory cards to your computer and fill them with pictures they should work just fine in your frame as well (as long as they are compatable size and type - just try it). Let me know if you have problems with it :)

This was just too good not to share...

"DAMN POST OFFICE"

There was a man who worked for the Post Office whose job was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses.

One day, a letter came addressed in a shaky handwriting to God with no actual address. He thought he should open it to see what it was about. The letter read:

Dear God,
I am an 83 year old widow, living on a very small pension.
Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had $100 in it, which was all the money I had until my next pension payment. Next Sunday is Christmas, and I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with, have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope. Can you please help me?
Sincerely, Edna

The postal worker was touched. He showed the letter to all the other workers. Each one dug into his or her wallet and came up with a few dollars.

By the time he made the rounds, he had collected $96, which they put into an envelope and sent to the woman. The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of Edna and the dinner she would be able to share with her friends.

Christmas came and went. A few days later, another letter came from the same old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the letter was opened.

It read:

Dear God,
How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? Because of your gift of love, I was able to fix a glorious dinner for my friends. We had a very nice day and I told my friends of your wonderful gift.
By the way, there was $4 missing. I think it might have been those b******s at the post office.
Sincerely, Edna

It's kind of funny. We're supposed to have snow all this week and it's going to be warmer than it has been for the past month. I guess it had to warm up to snow.

Bill, have you voted ?

It is raining , a deluge, actually in Northern California ! I took my dog out for his morning duty and I got soaked, I had to come in and change everything but my underwear.

Gonna vote on the way home. Lines expected. I've received some half dozen phone calls in these final days, included one from . . . President Barak Obama himself. Unfortunately, we weren't home or we could have had a nice chat.

[Or, perhaps, I'd have discovered that it was a recorded message, LOL.]

Who knows Bill, he could have created a type of lottery using phone books.

12 minutes until freedom! :carrot:

Bill...our current President has never called me...go figure....but George did often! Think he was hard of hearing though...I could never get a word in edgewise and he always hung up on me....dang.....

Ice? Ow!
My windshield is a bit scraped up from my little mishaps two work mornings in a row. I can only see the scratches in the morning when it's wet though, so that's alright. ;) Crazy floridian that I am, I don't have a scraper for the rare once or twice out of the year that I need it and was running too late to head back indoors for a plastic cup. :o

We're supposed to get rain Saturday-freezing rain, of course, but we're to expect thunder with it! Sometimes, we get thunder-snow here, too. Iowa is a strange, strange place:dizzy:

We had thunder and lightning, too. That is rare for California, not rain, but thunder and lightning. We also had a tornado watch ! We are used to rain, floods and earthquakes, but thunder and lightning and tornados !!!! No Way !!!

A driver's license, credit card or one of the store saver cards make pretty good scrapers if the ice isn't too thick.

Yes, I've dealt with snow and ice my whole life.

If anyone needs some cheering up, here's a link to a really cute youtube video from the Cincinnati Zoo-

And, HI Operator! How's it going?

zanheltangia

Operator, I used a "No tresspassing" sign :o. But I like the card idea, I will remember that for the next time it happens (probably a year or two from now).

Well, I don't know if CA sent it, but we got a nice downpour of rain this morning. First the sky was gray before it turned orange during our morning meeting, then yellow, than a deep blue before the rains hit. :carrot: Our pond should gain a few inches that it so desperately needed. Our gator should be happy. ;)

We had the tornado watch yesterday, fairly common thing to hear about in FL.
