"Crack the Fat Loss Code" and
"Conquer the Fat Loss Code"
Support and Information Weekly Thread
December 28, 2009

This thread is for 3FC Members to come a share how they are doing on Wendy Chant's two programs. Each Thread will start on a Monday and last for just one week.

Crack the Fat Loss Code is Wendy Chant's FIRST book - I recommend that you START with that book first. It will cover the basics of her program to a "T".

Then when you have gone through it, if you want you can get the second book - Conquer the Fat Loss Code. It doesn't cover the basics as well as her first book, this is why I recommend "Crack" first!

Here is some brief information about the "Crack" program from Wendy Chant -

Cycle 1: Carb-Deplete Cycle - Week 1[/b]
Deplete is a serious word for serious business, but that's exactly what you're going to be doing in the first week of your program. I call it your seven-day diet. And that's the only time I use the word diet to refer to my program, and I use it in the strictest sense of the term.

Cycle 2: Macro-Patterning Cycle - Weeks 2-4 [/b]
After the first week of your program, you will begin your Macro-Patterning Cycle. This is where you begin to pattern the body for fat loss and slow its adaptive response. This cycle includes three kinds of days:
Baseline days
Carb-down days
Carb-up days (Food Passes)

Cycle 3: Accelerated Fat-Loss Cycle - Weeks 5-6[/b]
Although I rely largely on manipulating carbohydrates to help you teach the body how to use excess fat stores as energy, this is not a high- or low-carb diet. (Actually it is not a diet at all.) This is about fat loss. So for our third cycle, we want to pick up the pace a little and engage in the Accelerated Fat-Loss Cycle. Don't worry if it seem familiar; these are basically the same types of days found in Macro-Patterning Cycle, with changes in how they are cycled to provide an increase in the usage of fat stores.

Cycle 4: Maintenance Cycle Weeks 7-8[/b]
You can't be on a continuous diet. Living ForeverFit is a long term lifestyle, and living on a lifelong diet is not the answer to enjoying life and living well. During the first three cycles, you've been sprinting - running to catch up and teach your body about using fat for energy. But you can't sprint forever.

The fourth cycle, the Maintenance Cycle, is also used for vactions and to aid in setting a new weight set point for the body to learn to maintain. This is the time that the body resets itself back to a higher nutrient profile in favor of carbohydrates and fats. During the Maintenance Cycle, you will learn how to live forever fit. The beauty of the Maintenance Cycle is that it can last forever.

We add two days to the Maintenance Cycle:
Cheat Day
High-Carb DayIf you would like to go back and read previous weeks of our thread, you can check them out below:

Good afternoon all! I'm ready for the new year :) there's always something good about the new year because it serves as a fresh start.

The eating was good yesterday. I'm off vacation (was off last week) so I'm glad to get back to some structured eating. I usually eat @ 7:15, 10:15, 1:15, 4:15, 6:30, and a snack around 8. So far the times are working for me. Workout was good today. Did a full body routine plus 16 minutes of a walk run. My heart was a pumping. My batteries wore out on my polar so I'm dying to get it replaced. I feel kind of lost without it.

Here's to a strong week all!

I'm ready TOO KellieLou! :broc:

Structure is so much better for creating a new way of life AND way of eating. ;)

I've been thinking of getting a polar - but it would be just one more thing for me to keep up on with the computer and stuff. My goal this year is to "Simplify". I'm going to try and get as much stuff off my computer back onto paper - so I can see it at all times. I think I'm in an information overload - and just need some simplicity!

Isn't it funny - how all these "gadgets" were created to make our lives easier, give us more time - but all it did was tie us down and take away our quiet times - one gadget I have in mind is my leash - my cell phone! :dizzy:

Have a GREAT day everyone!
I'm re-doing week 3 and getting back into gear - will continue on program right through the New Year's Day Celebration - no more off program days until this time next year! ;)

I'm ready, willing and able - so I'm just gon'a get'r done! :broc:

Hi all you Crackin's,
I finally got over here to post.

Boy, it took me a couple days to get that sugar from the two pieces of fudge out of my system the 26th of December. I think there was a  inside me saying, "sugar....you like it.....have more.....you know you want more....it tastes so good". It was hard not giving in when there was Pumpkin and Eggnog ice cream in the freezer. (my favorite)

But I managed to get through the day and I could tell that 27th and 28th weren't so bad. Haven't given any thoughts today to the sugar, so maybe it's out of the body.

I think I get the same way when I eat fruit. Seems I think about sweets more often after I eat a piece of fruit. When I was on LC woe, for the 5 years, just about the only fruit I ate was strawberries. Had them in my protein shakes. Sometimes at night dh and I would have a big bowl of fresh strawberries. Once in a while cantaloupe or honeydew. They are suppose to be the best for low sugar.

I really didn't miss not having the fruits. I ate way more veggies on the LC woe than I ever did eating my "normal" way all my life. Learned how to make cauliflower potato salad and when summer comes around looking forward to it again. I can have it on Wendy's plan. Yeah! Also the other thing I learned was cauliflower mashed potatoes. Had them for Thanksgiving more than once, and my father-in-law couldn't tell that they weren't real potatoes. Grand daughters still ask me to make them for dinners.

I lost 1 more pound yesterday. :cheer: From here on out, I'm in virgin territory! I'm shooting for 4 pounds....don't know how long that will take, but that's the plan. Glad to have all these holiday meals out of the way! Need to get back to "simplicity".

Went to the pulmonary lab yesterday and had a breathing test. I can't seem to speed up my walking without getting winded. Give me a flight of steps and about the 5th step my heart feels it's ready to jump out of my chest. Can't seem to get the air down low enough. I have to stop and get my breath and then go on. Been doing this for about 8 years, so I'm taking steps to see WHY!! Did the 7 minute walking stress test last month, and found out my heart is A-OK. Started getting winded around 3 minutes, but managed to make it to the end with panting and puffin'. Nothing wrong with that part.....which is good news to me! :carrot:

It sure makes it hard when I want to exercise and try to burn a few extra calories. I'd like to do 3 miles in 45 minutes. That's my goal...and I've made it in 55 minutes once, but when I got back home, I was beat. Red in the face, sweating, panting. Really didn't feel good for a while....but.....I did it. I always thought if I pushed myself, my breathing would improve. BUT yesterday the lady said I should walk at a normal speed on flat ground. She didn't think I should go to high altitudes to hike. And she didn't think I should speed it up!! She couldn't tell me much, she was just reading the numbers of how I did taking in the breaths and blowing out as fast as I could. I have a Dr appointment to discuss what seems to be the problem. Could be asthma, could have had Valley Fever when I was little. Had a bout of pleurisy (sp) years ago and the whooping cough every winter. I don't have a clue, but sure hope I find out what's going on soon. I love to go hiking when we take trips with the trailer.

Looking forward to the new year and starting week 6 next Monday. Looking forward to making new friends on this site and learning the program and a few new recipes as we move along. Hoping to get this program down pat and make good choices. Looking forward to wearing my shorts I got last year and wore for about 3 weeks. :) Can you tell I'm excited to get into the new year?? I'm ready for warm too!! I don't "do cold!" very well. Guess that's why God made me a California girl! :beach:

Hope everyone has a safe New Years Eve. Let's get this Crackin' going and get these pounds off!! And get on with Life!! We have things to do and places to go! :scooter: I've said that forever.

I think it was a miracle finding the First magazine with Wendy's article in it, in October. I really do! I was feeling so bad about gaining so much around the middle an couldn't lose a single pound for over a year. The menopause thing was dragging me under. I'm down 14 pounds and can wear some of my pants again. I feel great and it feels good to being in control.

Thank you all for all the encouragement I get from this thread. Makes me more accountable. I'm not alone in this any longer. Thank you Kim for starting the thread on 3fc!! And for keeping it going! :cheer2:

KIM-Glad to hear you're getting over your cough. Try to stay warm up there in in the "deep freeze", ya hear? :sunny:

Ok, gotta go fix dinner.

Everyone have a Wonderful New 2010!!

Oh gosh, I wrote a book! I guess ya have to call me Chatty Carol this time! Sorry!

Carolis60 - Sure GLAD you don't have much to say! ;) Just kidding - I love it when you share!

I'm with ya girl - I'm having a terrible time with the sugar 's - they just won't leave me alone. My weakness is popcorn, and my DD gave my DH a tin of popcorn. It doesn't even have to be good popcorn - just resemble popcorn and I CRAVE it! :o

I hope your sugar cravings are gone - I need help with mine still. Last week really took me for a loop! :yikes:

I've been craving fruit - my NEW candy of choice. But won't have it unless the day on program calls for it, then it is even a BETTER treat when I have it. :D Thanks for the info on the cantaloupe and honeydew melons - I'll keep that in mind - love them too!

Yep - for sure, your next post, you will HAVE TO give us the recipe for the mashed cauliflower, OK? :drill: :club: :drill:

Simplify (hmmmmmmmmm wonder where I got that sign) is my NEW motto for 2010! I'm with ya! Let's do it! :dancer:

You take it easy until you find out more from the doctor's - OK? Promise you will, OK?

You are such an encouragement to me - I'm so glad you told me about Wendy's program - yep - lets GET'R DONE in 2010! :hyper:

Awwww....Carol....you are making me blush now.....:o

LeslieLou - I'm with you, if we twist Carol's arm, she will HAVE TO give us that recipe, right???? :club:

I'm think'n it might be asthma too! Now that's two votes that I know of! ;)

When you get started on 1/4 - we're here for ya! You CAN do it! :broc:

Hello LeslieLou, I'll get the recipe to you tomorrow for the fake potatoes.

I was hoping that when I breathed in the medicine abuteral (sp) it would make a difference, but the nurse said it didn't do much. Hmmmm? I'll keep you posted.

Still have a ways to go, and then learn how to maintain. That's my real goal, maintaining.

I had to give up one thread today. I really enjoy the ladies in all the threads, but I just don't have time to post everything 4 times. This is the most important one to me since the ladies on this thread are eating the same way. I might have to give up another one.

I've been spending to much fun time on the computer and not enough time in my painting room. I sell my wood items on line and really need to paint 4-6 hours a day to keep up my supply. I have a passion for Tole painting and cutting my things out in my wood shed my husband built me, out of an 8x10 garden shed.

I'm one of those gals that gets excited looking at new tools. :D My friend got me a Lowe's gift certificate for my birthday in March. I kept looking at yard art all this time, but couldn't find the right piece, and I didn't want to buy "supplies", so when my dh and I were over there a couple weeks ago, they had the cutest little drill on sale. It's perfect for a ladies hand and not heavy. I bought it! Now, I'll think of my friend every time I use it. :)

But posting does make me more accountable, that's for sure. I don't know if I would have made it this far without the help from Wendy's book or the forums. And once I get started, I don't know when to stop!! Chatty I am!!

I'm thankful for Kim starting this thread over here.

Have to go finish the dishes and drink another glass of water.

Carol

I don't think that the inhaler works that fast if you are having a chronic problem...best to leave the final results to the doctor, right??? :chin:

I just love your work Carol, you are so talented!

I hear ya, Kim!! I could eat a large bag every day!! And usually did on WW. but now I eat the 100 cal. small one on my carb up day. JackieV thought that would be a good day for that. I've always liked, no, change that to.......loved popcorn. We use to take bags and bags to the drive in when I was little. Lots of butter on it too. Just sit back and start munching and watch the Disney movies. What fun that was. I like it a little burnt too. :)

I hope your sugar cravings are gone - I need help with mine still. Last week really took me for a loop! :yikes:

I think the sugar  is gone now. Dh and I learned when we were LCing, that when you have sugar or carbs, you WANT more carbs. My dh is very scientific and he said if he hadn't done the LC with me he would never understand the craving that he had after he ate carbs, and then try not to eat any for a day or two. When you eat carbs, your body wants more.

Yeah, strawberries, cantaloupe and honeydew have the least amount of sugar in them. I think we could have a half of cantaloupe, 1 cup of strawberries. Can't remember the amount for the honeydew. Bananas were full of sugar. But sometimes I threw one in our milk shakes.

I've been craving fruit - my NEW candy of choice. But won't have it unless the day on program calls for it, then it is even a BETTER treat when I have it. :D Thanks for the info on the cantaloupe and honeydew melons - I'll keep that in mind - love them too!

Too funny! I love sharing!!
Been a while since I've made the potatoes. But very easy. Takes one head of cauliflower and some chicken stock, minced onion. Hmmmm...can't remember what else goes in it. I'll get the recipe tomorrow .

Simplify (hmmmmmmmmm wonder where I got that sign) is my NEW motto for 2010! I'm with ya! Let's do it! :dancer:

You have that sign hanging where you can see it??? giggle, giggle I need to make me one. I want you to know that I've been very good not buying any more books, but I want one from Holman really really bad. She made the cutest ornament book, but CCraft wants more then the cost of the book for shipping! Yikes! So I won't let myself buy it till I need something else from them. Shame on them for not charging book rates.

You take it easy until you find out more from the doctor's - OK? Promise you will, OK?

I promise. I always thought pushing the limits was a good thing!!

I'm glad we both found Wendy's program! I was getting pretty down in the dumps with my "fluffy spare tire" larger than my chest! I think it's gone down, but will measure again at my 20 pound loss. I know my waist is smaller cause I can get my pants buttoned again.

I'm hoping it's just exercise asthma too! I guess if I have to slow the pace down when I do my walking....well.....so be it. At least I can walk. If I can't speed it up, then I'll live with that. I just want to get to the bottom of this. When we were at our family reunion up in Manchester, CA a few years back we went to the top of a light house. I don't remember how many steps that was, but it took me a while to get to the top. The sight was worth every step. Coming down.....I have no problem. ;)

You are such an encouragement to me - I'm so glad you told me about Wendy's program - yep - lets GET'R DONE in 2010! :hyper:

Welcome Carol, it sounds like you are doing terrific on the plan. You go girl.

Kim, I too have a severe addiction to popcorn. It's been a while since I had it. The local gas station sells buckets and you can buy one for $5 so this year I will be going without a bucket. I also enjoy/crave tortilla chips...you can put a beautiful cheesecake in front of me, and I will eat the tortilla chips/popcorn over it.

mateogirl, Welcome :) I started on the conquer since I already workout a lot so the plan is working for me. I'm 30 days in now and down at least 7lbs which is amazing for me because I'm a slow loser.

Things are going great my way. I was tickled pink this morning because at the YMCA that I work out at, I won their "bingo game" (you get a card and when they post the daily #'s you get a stamp.) I have no idea on what I won but it feels good knowing that I've only missed the gym 4x in the past month. Have a good plan for tomorrow and should be responsible :) Have a great new years and here's to more people joining us in the new year!!!

Hi Leslielou and Kim--I think I found the recipe book. I have a habit of writing in the margins of my recipes and if they were delicious, keeper, good, very good, so so, or don't make again. Also if it's for a special occasion or if we're having snow. Yes, once in a while we do get snow out here in the desert! ;)

So the recipe is a Low Carb, but you can modify it to fit Wendy's program. Play with it to suit yourself. I said very good on 2/7/05, so I've used it a few times. The recipe book is from George Stella's Livin' Low Carb. If you've never read his story, it is very inspiring! He was 39 and weighed 467 pounds. I used to watch his cooking show (till they took him off) and he made cooking look like fun. Here is his home page: http://www.stellastyle.com I hope I can post this here.

I'll shorten a little of what he says at the top of the page. We have to find low-carb alternatives to our high-carb foods---NOT doing without because this is a life style change. We have to "think outside the box".

Garlic Mock Mashed Potatoes

1 med head cauliflower
1TB cream cheese, softened (could use low fat)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp chicken base or bouillon (I like the granules better than the cube)
1/8 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp chopped dried chives (for garish)
3 TB butter (for topping)

1. Clean and cut cauliflower into small pieces. Cook in boiling water for 6 minutes. (I always nuked mine)
2. Drain well. Do NOT let cool! Pat the cauliflower very dry between several layers of paper towels. (don't want your potatoes drinkable)
3. With an immersion blender in a deep bowl or in a food processor, pulse the hot cauliflower with the cream cheese, Parmesan, garlic, chicken base, and pepper until almost smooth.
4. Garnish with chives and serve hot with pats of butter.
Hint:
Try adding a little roasted garlic or chopped fresh rosemary for a whole new taste!

Serves 4
4 carbs (but whose counting)

Hope this turns out for you. The family has enjoyed this many times, and I get to stay legal. Sometimes I would use jarred gravies instead of the butter. I think it was less fat. My father in law was over 80 when he tried this and he couldn't tell the difference. We didn't say anything to the grand daughters, didn't want them to turn up their noses at a veggie potato. They all came back for seconds. I served this for Thanksgiving instead of the usual potatoes.

If you like this, I have a wonderful mock "Fried Rice" using graded cauliflower. Honest, it taste just like I was at our local restaurant. I have to make myself stop eating it or I'd eat the whole batch. Ran across that while I was hunting for this recipe.
Stella makes a Shrimp Mock Fried Rice that sounds pretty good too. He is amazing with his veggies.

I was wondering if I'm going to get notified when my "20 days" are up? I'd like to add a cute tracker.

Enjoy ladies! Let me know how it turns out.

Good Morning Crackin's,
Almost 2010 and a New Year! :carrot: I think we need a drum roll.
We're gonna do this!!

Kim-- There is nothing in my CP that says I can Edit Signature. A sentence pops up that I have to wait 20 days. I must have joined after you cause you told me about 3fc. Maybe next week I'll have my 20 days finished.

LeslieLou-- I don't join in any challenges where I feel I'm in a race. I lose so slow, it wouldn't be fun. But I'll be rooting for you!!

I'll get myself in gear and post the other recipes later today. I haven't made the shrimp recipe, but was looking at it after I typed the potato recipe last night. There is nothing in it that we wouldn't be able to have. Just change the oil to Olive Oil. Rest of ing. is on Wendy's plan.

Linda-- Wonder what happened? Maybe you're stuck with cajungirl, but hey, that's what you are, so keep it this way. BUT I kinda like "Swamp Woman". Darn!

Kim-- You're so sweet!! Thank you for the compliment!

I'd love to find a ticker with a paint brush painting flowers or something. Wouldn't that be a hoot!! That would fit right in. I don't have a clue where or how to choose a ticker, but I'm learnin' and "I have friends in high places" to help me when I'm stuck. :D :D

Nice to have my computer back.

Dh is working on the laptop now. He's splitting the hard disk into Windows and Linux. Santa brought me a new Garmin and it needs windows to check navigation and info we'll need. We're slowly getting ready to take a road trip across this beautiful land we live in, sometime spring/summer. :carrot:

Ok, back to the drawing board for a couple more hours.

This is my first try with the Crack the Fat Code...My friend Carol told me she was going to try it after she had read good things about it. Me and hubby are going to do this together, I didn't want to do another weight loss anything! But Carol is having such great results and she doesn't feel deprived. I think she is on her 6th week.
I wish you the best Leslie and I will be here to cheer you on, we can do this. :cheer2:Nice chatting with you.

I started CRACK on 12/7/09, I was going to wait and do it on 1/4/10, but a wonderful member here on 3FC's talked me into starting and not waiting.

Now this will sound like excuses, but it is the truth and I've had a really tuff time :whoo: fighting bronchitis, not getting the sleep I need cuz of that :faint:, having a Birthday on 12/22 :celebrate:, a few days later celebrating Christmas :present:, and then yesterday & today - ANOTHER holiday - :newyear:

I feel like I'm go'n ! Plus the :goodscale shows my struggle. :kickcan:

So...I have decided :chin: to forget the past, mark it up to experience :drill: :club::drill: and go on. Monday - January 4, 2010 I will be starting Crack the Fat Loss Code right along with our newbies! :grouphug:

I have been reading about this Crack the fat loss code and it really sounds like something that will work for me. I went ahead and ordered both books tonight---my Wal-mart doesn't have them in the store. So I am anxious to get them and anxious to get started. They usually ship pretty fast--- just wish that I had ordered before so I could get started NOW!!! Any tips will be welcome. Thanks.

Hello LeslieLou,
This woe is new to all of us, so we're in the same boat. With everyone reading Wendy's book and asking questions when we can't figure something out, this forum will be a great help. Just yell! We'll all hear ya! ;)

I've been on diets since I was 12 years old. Some were so nasty tasting! Yuck! Sometimes I smell vanilla and the memory comes back, drinking that concoction. Shiver! While others were eating real food.

Been trying to lose the same 40 pounds for over 40 years. Just haven't quite learned how to reach goal (except twice, once with Phen Phen and once with WW) and KEEP it off. After reading about the good results ladies have had keeping it off with Wendy's program, I think this is the last one I'll need.

I love the forum here and hope we all can become long time friends. I've never been on a forum, and I'm really not computer savvy, so I need help all the time. Sometimes I get so lost. :mag: Kim always hears me way up north in Wyoming. I live north of Los Angeles. She always comes to my rescue! Thank you Kim!!  Doesn't matter how far apart we are, we're all here to support one another. :cheer: We're only as far apart as the keyboard. :)

Don't look back! :nono: Leave the past behind and look ahead! :flow2: One day at a time, that's all you (we) need to think about. Don't forget to enjoy each day! I keep sticky notes of the weeks on the inside of the cupboards.

I'll get that Fried Rice recipe to you tomorrow guys! It's so good! And it's just cauliflower. It really surprised me.

I had a good work day working in the shop. I had to grab what time I had while the day was warmer. :sunny:

Hello Linda my long time friend,
Did you get all your groceries today for next week? Here's a  to get you started. ;)

Looking forward to starting my 6th week Monday. :carrot: This has been a  time to start a new way of eating, but I made it. :cheer2:

See ya lighter! :broc:

I'm like you, when I heard about this from Carolis60  I ordered Conquer right along with Crack! I recommend that you do Crack first, it has all the basics, then when you are done with Crack (8 weeks) then go on to Conquer! ;)

Just keep reading this thread - it will change on Monday, 1/4/10 - but I will be changing it from a weekly thread to a monthly thread. Just before I close this week for the new thread, I will have a link on the last page - so all you will have to do is click on it and you will be at the NEW thread! I will do this late Sunday night. You'll get the hang of it really quick! Wendy Chant's program is very easy to follow. :broc:

:drill: Now LeslieLou!!! :drill: We do have ONE lone member of the :cheer3: Blue Team :cheer3: on this thread - ME! :club: :lol3:

I wouldn't call myself a pro - but Carol (Carolis60) sure has been on this program longer than I have - all I did was start this thread so we would have somewhere to hang out and share ideas ;)

That's right! We will encourage and share information, recipes, hard times, times that were easier, etc. We are just in the infant stage of this - we will be learning together! :gossip:

Now.....it time for a group hug! :grouphug:

:cheer3: GO BLUE TEAM :cheer3:

:cheer2: GO RED TEAM :cheer2:

I might have been on the program longer, but I'd be lost without you over here, Kim! Still have to look back at Wendy's book to refresh my memory.

I was looking through my Stella book and some other diet books. I have oodles, but lots of recipes use things not on the program. I'm trying to find ones that stick with what we can eat. Stella's is LC so he uses regular cream cheese in most of his dishes. I'll post new recipes as I run across them.

Huh....yes and no to that question. :o I usually write in my journal, but I've been mainly sticking to very simple cooking for now. Trying to learn the program. Baked fish, baked chicken, taco salad, chili, speg with speg squash, and tri tip roast. Broccoli is a given, and I throw in a salad or other green veggie. I haven't needed to many recipes so far. LF string cheese, HB eggs, or deviled eggs for either lunch or snacks. Egg beaters for breakfast with EZ toast and SF jam. Sometimes one patty of JD Turkey sausage (3 fats) That's about it. I measure my water in the morning so I know how much I have left to drink. I have a digital scale on the counter, so I always weigh my protein. Don't want to cheat myself out of what I have coming!

Maybe kinda boring, but it's been working for me. On my Carb Up days, I've enjoyed 2 pieces of spinach garlic pizza with salad. That's usually on Saturdays. Sometimes dh and I split a WW meal of some noodle dish (they have lots of noodle dinners to choose from) veggie and a salad. I usually have to add a little protein to go along with it. So I get lazy with writing in the journal sometimes. Bad!

Thank you for the compliment!! I try to make them perfect.

Guess I should call it a day ladies.

Everyone have a super Saturday!
Keep on Crackin'! :broc:

I also use Fitday to track my foods and exercise... Have any of you used this site? It is a free version at fitday.com but I bought the premium version a while back. I wanted to be able to use it while traveling on vacation even when I couldn't get access to the internet.

I was just wondering if you do the "CRACK" Journals and what they recommend for the meals and the carbs before 3 pm. :^:

Oh LeslieLou!
I use to have to HIDE my diet books from my family, if they saw I was on a new diet - they would make it really HARD on me, because I had failed on so many other ones. But this one???? I have tremendous support, my hubby sees the change in me and see the meals, they make sense to him - I have a great support system in my hubby now - this might just happen with you! ;)

Yep, we were just bantering each other with the teams - right here is the CORE of our encouragement! :grouphug:

Hello bonmike! :welcome2:

Sorry to take so long in getting that recipe to you girls for the rice. It was to nice yesterday and today, so I painted and cut wood. Yippee!
Give it a try and see how you like it.

Here is the recipe:

FRIED RICE
5 cups grated cauliflower (one head) I used the hand grater, (be careful of your fingers) but you can use a good food processor.
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
2 cups chicken broth
4 stalks celery, slice
3 TB diced pimento (optional)
1/3 cup finally chopped onion
1/3 cup soy sauce
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp. garlic powder
1 TB granular Splenda
1 TB unseasoned rice or white wine vinegar
2 eggs
2TB water

Add grated cauliflower, salt, and chicken broth to large uncovered non-stick skillet over medium heat and boil till cauliflower is very soft and liquid is almost gone, 20-30 minutes. Add vegetables, seasonings, Splenda, and vinegar. Stir often. When mixture has reduced enough to begin to clump, move to side of pan. Beat eggs with water; add to empty side of pan and allow to cook through (scramble) then stir the cooked eggs into the rice mixture. Continue to cook and stir until proper consistency is attained.
Makes about 6 cups - per 1 1/2 cups: 115 calories, 3 g fat, 12 protein, 4 fiber

This really tastes like fried rice. It's delicious!

I was looking at the fat in this. I think it must be coming from the eggs. I bet we could use Egg Beaters. Also try to get FF chicken broth, that might save us more fat. Probably could lose the salt. The soy sauce is pretty salty by its self.

Just ran across another recipe you can make with the grated cauliflower.

SPANISH RICE

6 oz. bacon, diced (3-4 slices, optional)
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup any flavor bell pepper, chopped
3 tsp. garlic
2 cups Mexican-style stewed tomatoes (1 avg. can)
1/4 tsp salt (optional)
1/2 tsp black pepper (adjust to taste)
5 cups grated fresh cauliflower

Fry diced bacon until crisp; add onion and bell pepper, continue to cook until softened. Add garlic and cook 1-2 more minutes, then stir in remaining ingredients and continue to cook until liquid evaporates and proper consistency is reached. Stir occasionally.
Makes 4 cups - per 1 cup: 24 fat, 5 fiber, 7 protein

Ok ladies, I know this has bacon right at the top but I wanted to leave it the way it was and then you can make the adjustments we need to fit our program. (remember this is a low carb recipe) Maybe use a little bacon bits if you want to. You could probably leave out the bacon completely and it would still taste like Spanish Rice. After you make it, put it in a casserole dish and sprinkle with a little ff cheese and bake till melted. Could add some sliced black olives to the top for pretty?

Enjoy!

Welcome aboard Bonni,

You'll like it here. The ladies are so friendly!

Oh, you're in Florida! Is it nice back there? Never been there.....yet. Some day my turn will come.

I just posted a couple cauliflower recipes I used when I was Lcarbing. I really liked them. Very tasty. The mashed potato recipe is a keeper also. Posted it earlier. All using cauliflower.

We'll have to tweak this last one and leave out the bacon. I bet it'll still be good.

Hi all, on my 2nd week and was wondering if a bagel can be eaten with eggs on one of the baseline days as P/S? It is listed as P/S on a carb up day. Can it be considered as a starch or is it in the SA category(bread) on the carb up days only? Help!

Personally, I would hold off doing anything that might be "iffy" on the second week. You might compare the nutritional information to the suggested Ezekiel 4:9 Bread - here is the information from the Sesame flavored package:

Serving Size - 1 slice
Calories - 80
Calories from Fat - 5
Calories from Sat Fat - 0
Total Fat - 0.5g
Cholesterol - 0mg
Sodium - 80mg
Potassium - 75mg
Total Carbs - 14g
Dietary Fiber - 3g
Sugars - 0g
Protein - 4g

I hope this helps you in making your food choice!

Lots of new faces around here, welcome all!!! Well I lost a total of 9lbs over the past 9 weeks. This is amazing for me because I have not seen the scale move like this in years!

We are going to workout with our trainer for the last time. He's a college student going off to an internship so we are going to miss him. Myself, dh, and two friends are signing up today for an 8k at the end of March so it will be exciting to train for that.

Thanks for the warm welcome Prairie.:)

Unfortunatately, I had the bagel this morning and then realized this is "iffy". I went to google more info about and I'm so glad found this site. I will now only have this on carb up days.

LeslieLou - kinda sounds like it! ;)
Don't worry - Deplete is easier than you think - don't be nervous
Right around day 3-4 you are going to go into SHIFT mode - you will get a BURST of energy and you will FEEL TERRIFIC! :dancer:

Go over the shopping list (page 81) and you are ready!
Remember, fat is not counted in week one - fat will be your friend - give you a little of the energy you will be craving day 1 - 3 or 4.

:drill: :club: :drill: BUT - Count Carbs - CARBS Count! :drill: :club: :drill:

So, don't use any low-Carb/low-fat products for this week (Deplete). And don't worry about exercise this week either - your body is going through some BIG changes already. Wendy encourages NO EXERCISE this week.

The BETTER you do during these 7 days, the easier the rest of the program will be - AND - your eventual fat loss will be!

When Counting Carbs - count them as "ACTIVE CARBS". What is that???
Here is the formula: Carbs - Fiber = Active Carbs
LIMIT carbs to less than 20 Active Carbs per day.

Don't forget your brocolli - one cup a day, each day on Deplete. You can fix it anyway you want - steam it or eat it raw! :broc:

No Snacking between meals.
Use only 1 Serving of fat per meal.
Eat every 3 - 4 hours, up to 2 hours before bed.

Eat 6 meals per day, if you can't really try for 5.
If you can only eat 4 meals - skip meal 2 or 4 & 6
If you can only eat 5 meals - skip meal 2 or 4 or 6

Read Labels
Keep a Positive Attitude
Eat Whole Foods, Good Foods, REAL Foods.
Be precise - No room for error this week!

:broc: Now..............let's get'r done! :broc:

yep, yep, and yep LOL! Everything Wendy said in her book and I have read it many times now!!!!!!!! I am not nervous..I am EXCITED!!!!!!!!!

I will do this and also maintain my gluten-free plan. I plan to do Wendy's plan but later folllow it and do low-carb at the same time, keeping in mind to eat every two to three hours and make sure there is protein in that.

Next week will start back on my WATP exercise program and speed up this process....later add some weights in....want some muscle tone!

:woohoo:

Kim, Thank you so much for taking the time to do those worksheets. I did get mine and was able to open them. Sure wish I was able to start with all of you tomorrow but my books wont be here until between the 7th and the
11th so I can't see me getting started before the 18th. Patience is so hard! But I do want to read the book and be able to understand it all. I feel like I will be bombarding all of you with questions. I did save the worksheets and will have them to be able to print out to use., I am excited!!

Hi Guys,

I'm starting Conquer for the second time tomorrow - and I'm looking for a buddy to help me through. I started Crack the fat loss about 2 weeks before thanksgiving and loved it - I've done low carb in the past and been succesful but can never maintain - I thought Crack/ Conquer would really work well for me and it did until I caved in to Christmas. I'm starting the Deplete week again tomorrow and I'm looking for a buddy to keep me going. I work full time and have 2 kids (7 and 2) so I don't have the time to read the forums alot- I'll defintely read them - but instead of reading them everyday will probably have to settle for once a week. I'd love to have someone that we can email back and forth (it's safer to check email at work that forums ;) ) to help keep me motivated and in return I'll do the same- just need someone to kick my but in when I want ot give up etc... If anyone's interested let me know -
Thanks
Tracey

Welcome Tracey! It's SO exciting more and more people are joining here!

well, girls I went to the grocery store and bought all of my great foods for deplete week! Yes, there is broccoli! hehe! I'm excited to see how my body responds to this plan versus low-carb....time will tell!

BTW....ran into one of the doctors I used to work for and he didn't even recognize me :( last time I saw him I was 50 pounds lighter! It just goes to show you that being overweight can change your appearance to the point where people dont even recognize you (sigh)......just more motivation for me! There are many reasons why I am going to lose the weight and keep it off....I just added that one to my list... (lose weight so people will recognize me)
