Beverlyjoy--Thanks for starting a new thread for us! I can't wait to check out Dr Oz tonight.

Today is our pizza party at work and I am determined to resist temptation! Of course, it doesn't hurt that hubby and I are making our own "healthy" pizza for dinner tonight!

I had another great workout last night. I am thinking about changing my routine a bit. Instead of doing weights AND cardio in the same night, I am thinking about alternating weights and a little bit of cardio and then just cardio. I did that a while ago and I liked it. What do you think?

I have also added a "reminder" to my cell phone--now it 'sounds off' every day at 3:45pm to remind me to go to the gym. I am going to add a little inspirational msg to myself each week too (I'll change it each week).

I have my reward lip gloss just waiting for me. It's a really pretty color--perfect for this time of year! Can't wait to wear it...only 12 more OP days to go!!!

Have a great OP day!!!!

I've been kind of off track the last couple of days. We had a major snowstorm and my husband was out of town. I had the joy of digging out the animal pens and trying to get them fed. I miss him when he is gone anyway, and it just has been a rough couple of days. But he's back, I'm going to spin class tomorrow.

Diane--Good for you for getting back on track! Glad your hubby is bad home!

I made it throught the pizza party! I ate my healthy lunch ahead of time. Then I put on lip gloss, chewed gum, AND drank LOTS of water while everyone else ate pizza and drank soda. I am now munching on an apple. It feels SO good!!! The nice part is, there was NO peer pressure from my team. They all know I am trying to eat healthier. One person asked if I was having any, but that was it.

MJ, wow! That's huge! I think it's really hard to resist temptation like that, especially pizza!

I've been struggling with hunger these past two days, which is odd after a month with no trouble. Today, it's as bad as it was that first week. I'm clock watching, and I hate that. I need to have a better plan set for dinner because on days like this, I end up grazing while I stare at my cupboard wondering what I should feed the family.

We're going to the movies this afternoon and I'm a popcorn nut! So I'm going to smuggle in some healthier popcorn. Anyone got a big purse I could borrow? :D

Oh boy, I just realized Hanukkah brings eight days of fried foods! (Our family celebrates Hanukkah for me and Christmas for my husband and kids.) So it looks like I may need some encouragement in the upcoming weeks to practice portion control! LOL!

Checking in to say hi....I'll be back from working this morning.

My son has the H1N1 virus. So he has been banished to their basement (thank goodness there's a TV, bathroom etc). Please - don't want everyone else there to get it. He just got out of the hospital right before turkey day. Enough already!!!

Have a great day.

Good Morning everyone! We were able to get our Christmas tree last night. It is now standing naked in the living room. It's ok, though. We'll be able to decorate tomorrow. I took Wednesday off next week to finish up my shopping. I was going to finish this weekend, but a friend wants to go shopping on Saturday and since we haven't seen each other in forever I am super excited to go with her!!! We are going to an outlet mall near us, so hopefully we'll find lots of good bargains!

Eliana--Thanks. It helps that hubby and I make a healthier pizza at home--can't totally give up pizza! I do have a big purse you can borrow!!!! It's funny you mention popcorn. I have been bringing 100 cal bags of smartfood popcorn for my afternoon snack. yummy! Oh wow, 8 days of fried foods.....you have all the encouragement you need from us!!!

Beverlyjoy--Oh no! Your poor son. 2010 HAS to be a better year! Hope he feels better soon!

rakel--How are you?

Diane--Are you still getting hit with lots of snow? How was spin class?

dgramie--How are you?

The scale was down again this morning--won't "officially" count until weigh in day on Monday, but SO nice to see the loss. I am only 1lb away from my ticker weight. *Hopefully* by Monday I won't need to adjust my ticker at all! Just goes to prove to myself ONE more time that I MUST exercise and eat well in order to lose weight. It's not rocket science.

Ok, I need to fill up my water bottle.

Have a great OP day everyone!!!!

mj - thanks for asking, I guess I was posting in the wrong thread. I'm copy and pasting over my post last night:

I always seem to forget how many calories are in a bagel. Today I went to a local bagel shop for a sandwhich. Now, they make really good homemade bagels and cream cheese, so I thought maybe I would get some. It's not necessarily that it's a bad idea, but knowing the way I am, I knew I was going to want to eat one. When I got hungry around my usual snack time, I took a bagel out, cut it in half, and spread a bit of the strawberry cream cheese, which would have been fine. But, I had a weak moment and polished the whole thing off. On the plus side, when I got home I was not hungry in the least. Any other carby food that I could eat would make me hungry right away, but for some reason a good bagel keeps me full for hours. In fact, I still haven't eaten "dinner" yet, and it's 9pm. However, I am starting to get a bit hungry now so I think I'll have a snack that will work within my plan. I can still have 363 calories, which is plenty. I will NOT go over my calories... I've been slipping up a bit more than I have been lately and my progress has slowed because of it. On the 7th I "gained" all of the weight I "lost" -- although I think I really just maintained and the loss was just because I weighed myself in the morning before I ate anything. But regardless, I'm back down to 317, so onward and DOWNward.

:)

Aunt Flow is officially here. I am taking the pill, so my period is supposed to come at a specific time every month, however for awhile I was not getting a period at all, or if I did it was 1-3 days, very light. However, it seems any time I start losing weight again it comes back in full force. I originally thought that it was just going to be light, it started 2 days ago. But then today it came with a vengeance. I feel some cramping and bloatedness. Usually I have neither with my periods. Prescription for today: drink lots of water. Maybe that will help with the bloating?

Made it to spin class today. There weren't very many in the class. I almost didn't go just so I could stay in my nice warm bed. But, I knew I'd feel guilty all day long.

It is just so darn cold here now. The snow is piled up all over and won't be melting any time soon. But now, the cold has really settled in. It was -15 this morning. They say we won't be above freezing until Sunday. I hate this kind of weather.

MJ - Good for you on avoiding the pizza. That's really hard to do! You should feel really proud of yourself.

Beverly - I can't imagine how frustrating this must all be for your son. I hope he can get better soon and stay better.

Eliana - Oh boy. Stay strong. Holidays are so tough. Sometimes I think if I can just maintain through the end of the year, I'll be happy.

Nicolen - Everything ok? Haven't heard from you for awhile.

Rakel - Posted at the same time as you. Hang in there!! We'll all keep plugging along.

Well, just got done doing my exercise for the day. A friend came over and we did the wii fit together. I got her all set up, and then I did 30 minutes on the free step, and then she did 10 minutes. When she wasn't on the Wii Fit, she walked in place and vice versa. She's going to come over again tomorrow, and maybe we'll be workout buddies and eventually join the gym. She's very petite and only needs to lose about 20lbs, whereas I need to lose like 175... ahem 165 now... But it's all good. She's very nice and encouraging.

Speaking of, down almost another pound today, so I'm making good progress again. I have a holiday party for work coming up on Saturday and I am determined not to let it throw me off. I will be making some red velvet cupcakes and fudge, but I don't plan on gorging on sweets, and I definitely don't want to be taking any home with me after the night is through!

Good Morning! It's a cold one here this morning (but not nearly as cold as it is at Diane's house...it's at lease above 0 here!)

rakel--you can do this, I know you can! Yep, LOTS of water! Hope you feel better today. That's awesome about your friend exercising w/ you. Doesn't matter how much either of you have to lose, just that you are exercising together. I have a friend who is trying to eat healthier. We eat lunch together most days at work--it's MUCH easier to stay on plan, even when we go out, now that she is eating healthier too. Good for you for planning ahead for your work party.

Diane--Yikes, that's cold! Good for you for getting to spin class!!!

nicolen--yea, pop in and let us know how you are!

Beverlyjoy--How's your son?

Tonight we are finally decorating our house and the tree! Tomorrow I am going shopping w/ a friend. So it should be a fun weekend.

Have a great OP day everyone!!!!

Hi chicks...I had a great op day yesterday. I am so, so grateful. It felt good to not wake up with a 'food hanger'.

Here are my plans for today:

breakfast - egg white scramble, pnb toast, tangerine
lunch - out with my aunt - something healthy
snack - yogurt
dinner - cheese toast, tomato soup, green beans
snack - cherrios, skim milk, raisins

stretches and strengthening
NO TV or standing when eating
lots of water
meditation

This will be a challenging weekend. I am having lunch out with my aunt today. Tomorrow we go to dinner with DH's former colleagues from where he used to work. Sunday we are going out to dinner with good friends - and then off to look at Christmas lights. I have gotten through this in the past....I will make the best choices I can.

Thanks to you all for your concern about my son and his h1n1 virus. Believe me .... all prayers are appreciate. My son is feeling a little bit better as far as the body aches. He says that this h1n1 flu just kicks your butt. It's not in my throat & respiratory system. My grandson and DIL are spending alot of time at her parents house to try and avoid alot of exposure. However, they know they have been exposed. Let's hope they can bypass it.

MJ - thanks for asking about my son. Yes, we are absolutely wishing for a better 2010. Have fun decorating the tree!!

Slash - good for you -getting yourself to that spin class!

Rakel - great to hear about losing that pound!!

Eliana - Goodness - facing laktes every night is challenging. Maybe just one - if possible. Or - fun sides to concentrate.

Everyone have a GREAT day.

'Morning, Chicks!

I'm back from my marathon excursion to California and (somewhat) caught up from the ensuing deluge of work at last... despite the many challenges, I stayed reasonably OP and have managed to keep losing. Slow but steady wins the race, eh?

Beverlyjoy, cheers to you for keeping your eye on the ball and reinvigorating your efforts! I'm sure your efforts will be rewarded.

mj5, excellent planning re the pizza... the social occasions are usually the ones that get us, aren't they? And so hard to avoid this time of year.

rakel, I hope you enjoyed that bagel to the fullest! Despite our best efforts, some treats must creep in occasionally... I've planned some wine and a chocolate bar in my menus this week, and I intend to savor them utterly!

Slashnl, I'm so with you on the weather thing. It really makes me crabby.

Since I live on my own on 35 acres with a bunch of critters, this harsh weather is particularly challenging. I have to keep water available for all the animals, which in some cases involves a lot of water-hauling (but I need my exercise anyway, right??)... at the moment, I'm having trouble keeping the water flowing in the HOUSE. All the taps are handicapped in one way or another: Two bathrooms and the kitchen have hot water but no cold, one bathroom tap has cold water but no hot, and only one tap (utility room) has both hot and cold running water!! I'm a little tired of the sponge baths, as this has been going on for 4 days. I have the house open to the rafters with a non-stop fire burning in the woodburner in the hope of thawing the pipes (which some clown routed through the attic... he must've thought he was in Oregon or something, a state that seldom freezes in the west. HAH!). So far, no joy. I begged a shower from a friend yesterday -- that was nice!

Today we shall welcome freezing rain. Does it get any better? I made sure to get everything I needed to hole up for the upcoming week, 'coz I sure don't want to be out driving in that. Still have to stack up a bunch of wood next to the house, but then I'm set.

For those who wondered, my date in California was lovely. I spent a most pleasant afternoon with my friend. He's still much in the process of grieving his late wife, as I expected, but we made tentative plans to enjoy a cruise together in June up the Inside Passage. I look forward to his next visit here in the spring. :)

Best to everyone in their pursuits this wonderful day!

Rae

Well, I tweaked my knee at spin class yesterday and was gimpy on it all day. I had trouble with it over night, so I didn't go to the gym. I'll try tomorrrow. We were doing this "running" thing, not seated and I think I just hyperextended it a little. It's so hard to get old. :) Today is our company Christmas party. I think it will be fun, we're going to the bowling alley. I haven't bowled in forever, so we'll see how that goes. They also have pool and a mechanical bull. Not up for the bull, but it should be a good time. Still really cold here. We live in a valley, so sometimes the cold gets stuck under a "temperature inversion" and that's what is going on now. It might clear out by this weekend. I hope! 35 degrees sounds so balmy to us!

RaebeaR: So good to see you again! It sounds like a good time in California. And I can so relate to the animals and water issues. Everything just keeps freezing here, so we're playing that game! Hang in there! You know it isn't even officially winter yet....

Rakel: Good for you having a workout buddy! That's cool.

MJ: I still need to get to the decorations, so you are way ahead of me!!

Beverly: Food hangover. That's a good way to put it. It never is good to overindulge, it just makes you feel worse! I wish I could remember that all the time!!!

Eliana: How's the temptations going?

Have a good one, everyone!

Eliana: How's the temptations going?

Hanukkah officially starts tonight, so I won't be actually making the Latkes until tonight. However...LOL! As little gifts (very little gifts) we give the children a snacky item present like M&M's or a can of pop, because pop is a real treat at our house! Attached to the snacky items is a financial gift. So I managed to go to CVS and purchase M&M's, snack bag of Doritos, pop, etc. without snagging any for myself! That was an accomplishment.

I hope your knee feels better soon! I worked out too hard once and killed both legs. They were literally like jello. It was so hard to walk for about a week.

Why thank you! :D I found them at Jungle Jim's also. I've never tried to make them from scratch, though it can be done. I made them using an actual measuring Tablespoon so I knew exactly what a serving is, so I only consumed 90 calories. :) And I believe I am actually under calories, so I may yet go curl up with a bowl of popcorn! Could have had more veggies today, but that's how it goes sometimes.

Tomorrow night....homemade potato chips!

Anybody got any other ideas for fried foods?

Pretty sure I went over my calories today. I was super hungry when I got home from work so I had a snack, and then found out everyone wanted to go to an italian place for dinner. Because we are trying to be more cost concious these days, I split a plate with my husband and ordered an extra salad. I had some garlic bread but stopped after I realized that I didn't really LIKE it that much. But still, italian food can be pretty fattening so I'm sure I went over. I also sneaked in a cookie that John's mom brought home... tsk tsk. :( Now I need to enter it in!

Right now I'm taking a little break from my dessert making for tomorrow night. My fudge didn't look like it usually does after I was done with it... so I'm afraid I'm going to have to throw away a whole pan of fudge and start from scratch. Frustrating! Fudge is so temperamental sometimes. Right now I'm mixing up some cake batter for Red Velvet cupcakes. It's not exactly exercise, but baking in the kitchen always gets me sweating. I sometimes wonder how many calories I'm burning doing every day tasks, because I often end up totally soaked, my hair completely wet.

Hi folks...I had another sane healthy food day yesterday...I am so grateful. I was able to push through wanting to overeat. Thank goodness.

Today we are going out with friends to a nice restaurant - folks DH used to work with. It's an Italian restaurant. All the salads come pretossed - so I'll see if I can it without dressing or a veggie.

My son is still feeling terrible with his swine flu - so far my DIL and GS havn't shown symptoms. I surely hope so. DS is feeling very very frustrated with it all.

breakfast - pnb toast, boca bacon, tangerine

lunch - tuna on a tossed salad with lite dressing, garlic toast

snack - yogurt

dinner - out with friends - grilled fish, potato, veggie

snack - cereal, milk, fruit

stretches and strengthening
water
eat only sitting with no distractions
meditation
write down food

Rakel - lots of people are splitting entrees of food. They give you enough for two very often. Good for you.

Eliana - so glad you found the latkes!

Slash - how's the knee - you take care now. Did anyone use the mechanical bull at the party??

Everyone - have a great saturday.

So weird! I had a post here but it got edited and most of it was "edited" out. Not quite sure how that happened, but this is the jist of what it said:

Usually for breakfast I have a nutritional shake and protien bar, but they are sweet, and I really didn't feel like eating any sweets (I had to force myself to try the fudge and make sure it was okay, but I just took a tiny, tiny piece), so I made some poached eggs on 1 slice of toast, with some ham lunch meat, shredded cheese, and tomato slices, and a serving of pistachios. This is also a very filling breakfast for me, so I'll probably just have a little snack in a couple hours and then I'll be ready for the party tonight at 7. I got up a little late so my eating will be a little late today.

I just did my exercise, and was very excited to learn I was down 2.2lbs. Of course, I usually do my exercise after I've eaten lunch and sometimes after dinner, so maybe that could account for such the drastic change. But I will count it! I'd really rather weigh in the morning before I've eaten, but I have the hardest time being able to get up early enough to do that.

Now to ice those cupcakes!

Hi all. Well, the party was a kick! We had so much fun, but I drank too much. Way to many calories, I'm sure. Nobody tried the mechanical bull. I went to work out today, but my knee was still hurting. Wonder what I did. I think I'll just try to take it easy.

Another one reporting on a party! I had a great time. I'm not really a wine or beer person, and I knew I was already having some pretty decadent foods that I didn't want to add to that with a drink full of calories, whether it was alcoholic or not, so I drank water. I nibbled on a few dips, but tried to not go overboard. I took small/average portions of the dinner and didn't get seconds. I actually didn't even finish everything on my plate. I ate one of my cupcakes, a piece of fudge and a chocolate truffle. I probably shouldn't have had all of those sweets, but I did enjoy them. Come to think of it, I probably could have just shared a cupcake with my husband but didn't think of it at the time. Overall, I think I did fairly well considering the circumstance. I have exercised today, so that helps with some of the additional calories over my allotment. I am pretty determined not to go overboard this holiday season and lose progress. I want to lose weight over the holidays, not gain it!

'Morning, chicks,

Well, Slashnl and rakel, I wish I had the excuse of a party for going off my plan... I don't. I just plain had a bad day yesterday food-wise. For some reason, I couldn't stop grazing, and then after grazing, I went ahead and had (an on plan) dinner anyway. Altogether between an extra glass of wine, grazing and a late dinner, I probably went 1,000 over my allowable calories for the day. Since I eat approximately 300 calories under my BMR, I netted a 700 calorie "oops." That's gonna leave a mark!!

Oh, well. The trick is to get back on plan today, right? So I'm now enjoying the best cup of coffee I can remember making in years, and I will behave for the foreseeable future.

Beverlyjoy, how was the Italian dinner?

Slashnl, with your hurting knee, maybe you were riding that mechanical bull after all...? ;)

rakel, I am in awe that you can bake and make candy at all without going completely off the rails... I can't do it. Maybe as time goes on, I will be able to evolve a successful strategy for baking the goods but not eating them, but that day isn't here yet. I realized the other day I didn't have a single crust of bread in my house, and since I was having some tradework done, it occurred to me I couldn't even offer the man a sandwich. I got busy and baked some of my world-class French bread -- just to have on hand, I told myself. And what do you think started my splurge yesterday? :o <sigh...>

Better days. Better days.

rakel

raebear- I did munch on a few chocolate chips and nuts while I was making my fudge, I also testing my frosting, but those sweets kind of lingered in my mouth and I did not really feel like sampling any more. After the fudge was done I took a very small sliver to see if it was okay because it was very thick and started hardening soon than usual, but other than that I was very good! I did not sneak a bunch of pieces of fudge like I did last year. :o I didn't frost the cupcakes until right before I went to the party, so I wasn't tempted to eat one of those without frosting. One of my co-workers was so surprised that I didn't have like a "messed up" cupcake that I tried to make sure everything was okay. Said co-worker is naturally very thin so maybe she can get away with doing that, but I knew I was planning on having a cupcake at the dinner, so I didn't want to eat it before then! :) Trust me, if I can do it then you can.

But, my eating hasn't been very great the past few days. Today I went to Logan's and got their "health nut" entree that only had 550 calories or less (salmon, broccoli and a salad without cheese), but someone we went with ordered an appetizer, so I had some of that, and then I had not one, but THREE dinner rolls at a whopping 227 calories each. I knew exactly how many calories they had, yet I ate them anyway. So, there will be a VERY light dinner for me tonight, as I only have about 350 calories left for today ;).

Hi everyone! I had a great time shopping w/ a friend at the outlet mall yesterday. We walked a LOT and even stopped for a healthy lunch (well, I made healthy choices anyway)

Unfortunately, I think I walked a little too much yesterday and my knee is sore today. I have kind of taken it easy today, so hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Weigh in day tomorrow.....hopefully, the scale will still be kind!
