Annie - I've been thinking about you a lot. You are going through so much, and I know how hard it is. It's good that you are at peace. I remember when I got to that place when my mom and dad were in hospice, and it was apparent that they only had a short time left. Don't be surprised if your tears/grief comes in waves. I'm glad to hear that momma is not afraid to die, that's good. And it's natural she's sad because she will be leaving those she loves. Death is always harder on those left behind...and it's my belief that sometimes people hang on because they want to make sure their loved ones are okay. This has to be so hard on your dad...it's good you're there to help him through it. Good to hear that she's still eating...even if it is a little bit. 3 oz was a lot compared to what my dad ate during his last month or so. No doubt it's because you're such a wonderful cook. Mmmmm, ham and fried rice sounds sooo yummy! What a relief that your streets were clear this morning. We got more rain than snow over Christmas weekend...just a couple inches of white, fluffy, powdery snow....not the deluge that MN, IL, Indiana, the Dakotas and the plains states got. I'm sending you lots of love, hugs, angels and prayers, my dear friend.

Hello all! I'm dragging my butt today. I stayed up too late winding down from yesterday's gathering w/ my side of the family. It was good seeing my family, but I'm happy that all the hoopla is now over. It's quiet in the office today, and it'll be a short week. The powers that be changed our Christmas Eve office closing time from 3 pm to noon, and I'm sort of hoping they will do that on NYE because I'm working that day and it would be nice to get off work even earlier. As it is, they've announced that from now to the end of March will be jeans days, so that's nice. Although I sort of wish it was "jeans and sneakers" days instead. Or slippers and pj's, LOL. :D

Annie –I'm glad you enjoyed Christmas Eve w/ your family. I'm so sad to hear about your mother's prognosis. I hope you can spend a lot of time w/ her. I'm glad she's not afraid.

Michelle – Sounds like you had a happy holiday, and were also quite productive in the money-earning aspect too! Good for you! The penguin decoration is very cute – you should put it up now and get some enjoyment out of it this season. Or are you all ready to pull all the decorations down now? Bf and I'll keep ours up for another couple weeks or so. Some people have such beautifully decorated homes, and it made bf and I realize that we have a haphazard collection of holiday decorations that we spread around without too much thought. We've decided to look at all the stuff we have and weed out the stuff we don't feel strongly about. Bf also wanted to shop for some new stuff after Christmas to take advantage of the post-season bargains, but I'm thinking most of the good stuff would be gone by now.

Shad – Your "lovely warm sunshiney Christmas" sounds heavenly. We had a lot of rain, followed by a lot of snow. Yesterday I had to be satisfied with a brief glimpse of the sun. I think it's time to put a tropical photo on my pc desktop. Hope you got to try out your Wii Fit and enjoyed it! Sorry the paint color didn't work out. Back to the drawing board!

Mel – Thanks so much for posting all the holiday graphics. I just love seeing those. I keep all the Christmas cards we receive and like going through them. Some are so pretty. I do need to go through all of them and maybe just keep some of them to reuse as gift tags or something. Maybe I'll make a cheery piece of holiday art work out of them – some sort of collage thingy I can frame. I'm glad you had some peaceful time during your holiday. My favorite times are relaxing in the glow of the tree and the fireplace w/ bf and doggy.

Ceejay – I'm glad your uncle got a pass for the holiday, and I hope it did more good than harm for his recovery. I'm sorry you had such a horrible drive on Thursday!! Good 2010 goal!! Focusing on the healthy is certainly a wise way to go into the new year. I'm going to continue to focus on weight loss, but my exercise goal is primarily going to be directed at strengthening my pulmonary function.

Happy – Welcome back! Ugh – a 10+ hour drive home, followed by a boob squeeze. At least you'll get it over with.

I like the thread title "jiggle and jettison our junk in January".

Okay, better get this posted and do some work.

Cheers! :xcheer:

Hello to all the chicks

Mel
Don't blame you one bit for taking that me day. I have one schedule for 01-13-10 and I will be taking one per month as long as I have the vacation day's.
I need to get back to the "fly lady" routine.

Laura
It would be nice if your office did close. Unfortunately the plant needs supervision 24/7 Luckily I'm off New Years Eve and New Years day. And I've decided I'm staying home. I had no rest last week end. Your exercise goal is a good one.

Happy
Glad you made it home safe and sound. I hate those kind of medical test. Ugh
Are you still wearing your shoe?

Annie
 You are going through a rough time right now. I'm glad that you asked your mom those questions. It's helping you to heal too. You are a good daughter.

Michelle
Thanks for the information about the Wii.

I made myself go to bed at 9.45 p.m. last night and low and behold the door bell rang at 2.30 a.m. I didn't sleep good after that. I'm checking the security camera when I get home. Who would be out in this cold weather at that time of the morning! Makes me think something bad.

Shad
Be safe in your travels also.

Laura - Glad you're enjoying a quiet day in the office. Our office closes at noon on NYE, but I'm taking 1/2 day vacation to get the entire day off. Jeans days for 3 months?? That's awesome!! I love jeans days. Of course, I wish they were jeans, t-shirts and sneakers days. I'm going to be pulling down all the indoor lawn decorations this week and weekend. The outdoor decorations will have to stay up until the ground thaws as the stakes that hold them in place are frozen to the ground. Sometimes they stay up until April! As for post-Christmas bargains, you might still get lucky at some places. We have a lot of Christmas and penguin decorations, and we don't even put it all out every year. We put more out when DH's mom is here for the holidays, less when she's not here (like this year). But since my niece will be here in less than 2 weeks, we're going to take down the tree and put away the indoor Christmas stuff before she gets here. Gotta get the house looking presentable again....at least it's not a disaster like before she was here in November! I'm with you...I just love the peace and quiet of relaxing in front of the tree or the fireplace with DH and the doggies.

Ceejay - I love your idea of taking a me day every month. Do you have all New Years weekend off or just New Years Eve and Day? Either way, I hope you enjoy your days off and spend time relaxing. That's crazy that someone rang your doorbell at 2:30! How rude!! I hope it's nothing really bad.

Mom is being moved to a Rehab/Nursing Home this afternoon. I suspect this will be the last move for her. All these rehab/nursing homes remind me of Golden Girls Sitcom when they used to threaten Sophia with Shady Pines.

It is FRRRReeeeezzzzing outside. Hi today is 22 with windchill of minus something. Burrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! Snow showers predicted off and on all week, but hopefully nothing substantial.

Baby boys swearing in got postponed for 10-15 days due to the govt shutting down over the holidays. I imagine it will be the first part of January sometime. If I am repeating myself, please forgive me.

Ceejay...thank you for telling me I am a good daughter, I question it sometimes. I just know I love my family and would do most anything this side of legal for them. Good God, who in the world rang your doorbell at 2:30 am? I wouldn't answer it for nuttin'.

Chelle...thank you for all of your pep talks about my momma. It certainly helps me get through the tough times. You are a good friend.

Laura...wish we had jeans day till March. We do have jeans and sneakers this week. Really need long johns and wading boots.

Shad...when do you head back to the jobsite? None too soon I am sure!

MEL...thank you for your love, my sista....taking it easy peasy in 2010, my frien-d. How about everyone losing 12 lbs in 2010. That is only one lb a month or maybe two good dumps. lol

Best get back at it. For my boss being in Key West, I sure have a lot to do. Not to mention she has called me already twice, once from the Charlotte airport and once from the Key West airport. I told her it was not much of a vacation if she was going to keep calling me all the time. That is the same as "leave me alone". lol

Have a wonderful evening while I am at CVS with the crazy nuts.

Much love and Many Hugs back at cha.

Annie, big giant ginormous hugs to you  Between Mom and baby boy getting deferred (both a relief BUT then you have to postpone the inevitable leaving) - you must be a mass mess of stress.

I am so sorry about your Mom. I don't think I could have said it better than Michelle about how sometimes they are tired of the poking and the suffering and are ready to move to the next place (and I do believe there is a next place in which there is a link to our world that those residents can continue to watch over us). It is so hard to let go and harder I do believe on those they leave behind. I can only reiterate what you are doing now, holding her hand, talking, making ham and rice for her. Be with her as much as you can. Do not regret anything because you are with her. Love and comfort to you both... and your Dad too - just as hard on him also. :grouphug:

Quick update.

Thank you all for the good travelling thoughts. The ride out was remarkablely clear until we got close to Chicago. Then traffic was horrid. The trip was good for me - got to see friends and family - maybe a bit boring for poor DH. We got trapped in the house on Wednesday where there was an ice storm but thankfully it eased up for Christmas Eve travelling.

I woke up every morning in serious pain - particularly my spine and of all things, my wrists. Thought it was momma's old bed but I switched with another bed to no avail, it's that darn weather taking it's toll on both DH and I. We are done with the north. Only been home 1 day but did not have the same pain.

Coming home was a very long trip - it gets more tiring each year. We left around midnight Saturday night / Sunday morning. I didn't sleep at all so I dozed but DH slept in bits. We pulled off at a rest stop twice for an hour. He was sleepy, I was tired too and dozed off trying to keep him awake. We took I-55 home instead of Interstate 57 we took on the way up. There are more all night gas stations and rest stops on I-55. Near to 6am, a sheriff's car passed with lights a blazing. We got a bit up the road and found a road block. Were rerouted along a fairly long stretch of road along side roads. Saw the lights of the emergency vehicles at one point but could not see anything else. DH read in the paper today that there was an accident about 20 minutes before we hit the spot. 2 people from Rockford, IL (upstate Illinois) were driving along. Something happened (not specified but it might be that the driver fell asleep at the wheel). He crossed the grassy median strip and headed into oncoming traffic in the other direction. Hit a car head on that had 2 adults and 2 children. The adults were killed as was the driver of the first car. The rest were taken to the hospital. But for the grace of God go us... DH had commented as we were driving that he noticed several tire tread marks in the median strip. I am always afraid of a head on collision like that. I-55 is a very boring drive. Nothing at all to look at. I am glad we are safe. DH said giving the weather and such, perhaps we should think about going in the warmer weather instead of at Christmas time. (He knows that I want to be with my Mom as much as I can).

Today I went to the podiatrist. Still having lots of pain in the foot, walking is hard. He gave me a shot and a boot to rest the foot. Said it could be tendonitis (which the boot should help) or it could be a stress fracture that didn't show up on the x-ray. I go back in 2 weeks and will have to get an MRI if I still have problems. It has to be an open MRI as you aren't getting me in any tube!

I need to go fix dinner now. I want to catch up on your posts while I was away. Be back when the meat loaf and potatoes are roasting in the oven...

Guess it has been a bit busy today, since I only just realised that I hadn't posted today.

I woke up at 3am this morning. Why I don't know, but I couldn't get back to sleep. Anyway I read until 5 and then went to the DS2's place and finished putting the first coat of the new paint in the bedrooms. Must admit it does look somewhat better than the rather bright yellow. DS2 is tiling in the bathroom. From the exclamation marks !!!!! coming out of there, I suspect he is not having a happy time of it. Have fun my son. I did it at our place, so you can do yours.

I had some visitors this afternoon and we had a nice chat and caught up on life such as it is. Then I began to prepare for my trip back down to Melbourne. I'm beginning to think 2 stops (3 days) rather than the 2 day drive because after about 6/700k I get a bit sick of it. So I may leave early on New Years day and see how it goes.

Annie - how are you holding up friend? You are sounding remarkably upbeat.

Michelle - looking forward to the long weekend I see. Hope the weather holds up so you can get outside and get some fresh air and exercise. We have rain, rain, and more rain, here. It looks like it will last into the new year now. Then the weather gurus are predicting a cyclone to form off the Queensland coast.

Laura - Glad that all the entertaining is over for you. Now you just have to fix the leftovers.

Ceejay - 2.30am???? :yikes: I wouldn't have answered it either.

Happy - glad you got home safe and sound. Driving long distances sure takes it out of a body. Sorry to hear that the weather affected the body so much. Makes it hard to go back year after year. Maybe Christmas in July from now on.

Mel - good to hear that you are having a slow and steady day. You need it after all this cold work that you have been doing. Stay warm.

I'm off for a very early night. I am tired of the rain - but then that's the tropics for you. Rain in the summer + humidity + bugs. Roll on Autumn. It's much nicer then. I really don't understand why all these tourists come here in the summer and then complain about the rain. Do your homework people.

Good Tuesday to all -

I was going to go to the gym last night to do a Zumba class, and then I realized that with it being the week between Christmas and New Years, the instructors were probably on break so I called. I was right...no classes this week. It worked out okay. I ended up doing 45 minutes of Kung Fu and Step Aerobics on the Wii Fit. Tonight after work, I've got a bunch of website work to do, but I'm going to try and get 30 minutes of Wii in. I may also walk around the office building (indoors).

Annie - I'm glad you're mom is doing well enough to go to the nursing home. I know those places are difficult to be in, but at least she's someplace where she can get round the clock care. So nice that your DS's swearing in was postponed, even if just for a week or two. You're going through so much, girlfriend. And Ceejay is right...you are a very good daughter. You're a very kind and loving woman.

Happy - That's a bummer that you were in so much pain during your visit, but glad you're doing better now that you're out of the frigid north. What a relief that you didn't get caught up in that bad accident (or any other accident). I think your DH has a good point about visiting Chicago during warmer weather when it won't chill you to the bone and make driving trecherous. Sorry to hear about your continued foot pain. I hope the shot and boot help.

Shad - Such an early riser today, and as usual, getting right into your projects. Glad you're "letting" DS2 have the priviledge of tiling the bathroom. If you have the time, a 3 day drive to work would be better. As for outdoor exercise, I'm kind of a cold weather wimp and prefer indoor exercise in the winter. Wow! A cyclone? I hope that doesn't cause too much damage.

I've gotta sign off for now, but I'll check back in later.

Lotsa love,

annie175

Good Morning All Ye Worldlies......

OMG Happy, so glad you were not involved in that accident. Ever wonder why sometimes we make stops or sleep at rest parks, then by the grace of God we could of been in an accident had we not stopped. When I banter back in forth in my mind whether to stop and get coffee on the way to work, I finally resolve to stop, then find out had I gone on, it would of been me in an accident. Always go with my gut feeling on things. Took me half my life or more to figure that one out.

Shad...not sleeping, waking up early, now you have a case of the Annie's. The sad part is there is no one else up at that hour to bother. lol. Yes, trying to stay positve and upbeat for fear of crying about the entire life situation right now.

On a brighter note......it is only 81 days till spring. I guess it would be fall for Shad??

Not much else going on. Finally got my Christmas stuff down at home, took me a 3 whole minutes. lol. That is about how much I was in the spirit this year...3 minutes worth. Come on 2010, let it be the year of the Worldlies...all good...

Hello's to all.

Love and hugs.

Chelle is the sneaker inner today. Mom is not really good enough to go to a nursing home, but the hospital basically said she can't stay there to die. So they sent her on. Kicked her out so to speak. I had a 8X10 pic made of me and my 3 brothers that we took Christmas eve I am taking to mom to put on her wall. Hope it brightens her day. Love ya sis.

MEL....you sound as cold and windy as we are. Yikes. Keep thinkin spring in only 81 days.

For you sky/star gazers....New Year's Eve will bring an event that only happens once in a blue moon...or actually once every 2.5 years. A blue moon occurs when there are two full moons in the same month, with the second being called a blue moon. There hasn't been a blue moon on New Year's Eve since 1990, and there won't be another until 2028. There is a possibility of snow showers in Indiana so it might be difficult for me to see.

Annie - Only 81 days until Spring?? :woohoo: Okay, it officially sucks that the hospital kicked her out! What b**tards! So nice of you to give your mom a photo of you and your brothers to brighten up her day/room. :)

Mel - You're getting our wind (and wind chills) from yesterday! Enjoy! Today is colder, but not as windy so it doesn't feel as bad. When you get done putting your clean clothes away, will you come here and do mine? :lol3: And when you get done with hiring the FlyLady, please send her to my house! Hi everyone! Trying to stay warm today. My legs are cold, so I'm thinking of putting my down coat over them. :brr: Need to bring a lap blanket to work!

Ceejay – Someone ringing my doorbell at 2:30 am would freak me out, not to mention how the dog would react!! At least you have the alarm system now. Nice idea to take a "me day" each month of 2010. I tend to use most of my vacation time during the 2nd half of the year, but I should make a point of scheduling some of those me days during the 1st half of the year. I just wish I had enough $$ to have a massage on each of those me days!

Michelle – Nice you're getting your exercise with your new Wii. Me, I'm being rather sedentary lately. In fact I checked out a library dvd to learn to crochet and picked up a skein of yarn and a set of crochet hooks last night while at the store. I need to set up my pedometer to at least encourage myself to get more steps during the day. Bf is nice to pick me up from the train in the evenings, but if the weather isn't too bad, I like to walk and at least get some exercise.

Annie – Do you want to wear the waders because of the snow outside or the BS in the office? Hope your boss leaves you alone now. Haven't heard much from my boss, also on vacay, but she took her laptop and had intentions of going through her e-mail. Boo. Nice for your mom to have the photo of her loved ones. Yup, good daughter.

Happy – Sorry you were in pain while in the cold north. At least you're home now – today it's very cold like Annie reported - in the teens in the Chicago area. I think anyone would agree - driving in Illinois on 55 is soooo veeery boring. Bf and I went that way to visit his niece in KY in Oct and we both hated it. We decided the next time we go, we'll take Amtrak to Carbondale and then either borrow the car of friends who live near there or rent a car to do our visiting in KY and in southern IL.

I know that flying home might not be any better for you and is expensive, so I agree that maybe visiting during non-winter months is a good idea – safer driving conditions. My sister and BIL had air travel nightmares (the schedule there is already very limited, and then bad weather caused even more problems) when visiting my mother in Springfield, MO last Christmas and vowed to never fly there again. I won't go that far, but I won't do it during the holidays. I might plan a trip for this March or April. I know the weather is milder than Chicago at that time of year. Some friends will be in Branson in April too, so maybe a day trip to see them is in order.

I'm sorry your foot isn't healed yet! Wouldn't a foot MRI not be too bad if they don't have to put you all the way into the tube? I've had a couple and they are awful regardless – loud and always cold, let alone the need to keep completely still for what seems like an interminable amount of time!

Shad – Glad you had a nice visit with friends. LOL re DS's tiling fun. He needs to keep in mind how much $$ he's saving doing it himself. That's a long drive ahead of you. Glad you're taking the extra time to do it – safer and less exhausting.

Mel – Hope you're holed up in your apartment staying warm and cozy today! I'm sure you have plenty of clean clothes to tide you over until you can go down to the lobby w/o freezing your fanny off. Keep the hot beverages coming! It's been chilly in the office. Yesterday and I had 3 mugs of tea, and I'm ready for my 2nd mug today. It's gets cold so quickly – wish I hadn't brought home my little beverage warmer thingy! Re the jeans and sneakers – yes, I used to assume they went together…until the memo came out that it's only jeans – no sneakers, no t-shirts, jerseys, or other athletic wear. Bummer.

Tonight we're seeing the movie Precious. I've heard it's good, but it sounds depressing. I hope it's got an uplifting message to it. Well, better get this posted.

Cheers!

I learned a few years back that I do not like to travel during the winter months. I was stranded in the air port at DFW for around 20 hours. My sis lived in Abliene at that time. I'll be curtailing my trips to Paragould also due to the weather, starting this week end. I'm so glad that you had taken the time to pull off the road . And boo on you walking boot but hope it helps.

Annie
How nice to take your mom the picture to hang on her wall. I was going to ask if you had siblings.
The moon was almost full last night.
81 one days till Spring doesn't seem to be that far away. Then we will be wishing for cooler temperatures. he he

Mel
Be sure to stay warm. The nasty winter stuff is suppose to start after midnight here. I was really hoping that it would wait until tomorrow night to start.

Laura
The pedometer does motivate me to move around more. And if I burn x many calories per day I feel like I don't need to do any formal exercise, but I do. Some people may can get away with it, I can't. Can you bring a space heater to work with you to sit at your feet? My boss would think I was covering up for a nap if I brought a blanket.

Michelle
Did you enjoy the foot ball game?

I didn't figure out how to rewind the dvr last night and I'm now thinking about getting a small monitor to put that on. After reading about it I'm thinking it would be alot easier to use this way. I'm still curious.

Happy Wednesday ladies -

I totally did not want to get up this morning. The heat hadn't turned up yet and it was 60 degrees in the house. I spent yesterday evening doing website work...and only did a bit of Wii Fit. Then a couple of friends that we haven't seen in ages but keep trying to get together with called. We had hoped to be able to spend some time with them this week, and they're available! We're going to meet for dinner on New Years Day (night) and then come to our house and watch movies. So all the cleaning/tidying I was going to spend 4 days this weekend doing in preparation for my niece's visit next weekend, has to be done by Friday night! It shouldn't be too bad though, it just means I can't procrastinate which is actually a very good thing! Tomorrow night, we're getting together with DH's aunt and uncle to play cards/games for New Years Eve. We aren't big bar-hopping party animals and hate to be on the road when the drunks are out...so we make a tradition of getting together to play cards...and then make an early night of it.

Mel - Were you able to avoid lunch with the guy from India?

Laura - I'm cold today too...and I'm almost never cold. I would love to learn to crochet or knit...I just don't seem to have the time between work, websites, working out and spending time with DH. Please take photos of what you make. How was the movie last night?

Ceejay - I don't drive/travel as much during winter months either. We watched the Packer game on TV on Sunday, and then the Bears/Vikings on Monday Night Football, and then the Wisconsin Badgers in a football game last night. I love watching football and really miss it (to the point of going into withdrawals) after the Super Bowl.

Do any of you have plans for New Years weekend?

I'd better get some work done now that the coffee has nearly kicked in, but I'll check back later.

Love and hugs,

Mel - So sorry to hear about the tenant that fell and went off to the hospital. You stay warm and cozy and avoid the downstairs. You don't need to be catching a chill or a cold. Enjoy your oatmeal, girlfriend.

It's hump day/trash day...thank God it is trash day as I have about 12 bags and a can full of trash. All from Christmas eve prep and Christmas package opening. Glad to get that out of my garage.

Laura....need the wading boots for both outside and the bs in the office. lol

Ceejay...now it is only 80 days till spring...I am so counting this one down. I can't stand to be cold. I am not quite sure why I live in Indiana, it really does not suit me. Maybe in my next life things will surely be different.

Chelle...I didn't want to get up this morning either. Matter of fact I didn't even get to work till 8:15. Only 45 minutes late, but hey, there are only about 6 of us in the office this week and NONE of us gives a rat's behind. LOL. No plans for me this weekend. I am working NYE at CVS. Will probably spend NYD with mom as time is running out. Then work on Saturday at CVS and think I have Sunday off. So really just same ol same ol for me.

MEL...what you are not par-tay-ing on NYE, hah, me either. I claim it to be midnight between 9 and 10pm, say happy new year and hit the hay. Not much of a NYE girl, too many crazy drunks out there for me.

OK...here it is.....Monday, January 4, ALL us Worldlies are jiggling our junk into the new year. I am sick of feeling like poop. No more sugars or carbs, back to the bariatric basics for me. Also cutting out alcohol. Actually I started today with hopes of being in full swing by Monday the 4th. WHO IS WITH ME ON THIS? Not necessarily my plan, but get some kind of plan that fits you. Here are the bariatric basics, in case anyone is interested and wants to lose weight very steadily...

1. Eat proteins first. (This one is a must, and majority of eats)
2. Eat veggies second. (This one is a must, and 2nd majority of eats, no starch veggies...i.e. potatos, corn, etc)
3. Eat fruits third. (Some fruit, but not as much as proteins and veggies)
4. No to little carbs..if you eat the first three you will not want the carbs.
5. No sugars...period. (Only natural in fruit etc. Sweetners are allowed)
6. Minimal caffeine or switch to decaf.
7. Low sodium

Bariatric doc said even non-bariatric people could eat this diet and lose weight and feel better.

That is how a bariatric patient eats the first year with no exceptions. I never felt better in my life when eating like that. No headaches, no stomach traumas, not tired or draggy.

Take a COMPLETE multi-vitiman. Now I take extra things to help my system along as I do not absorb as normally as others.

My extra things include:

1800 mg calcium
Vit A
Vit D
Vit E
Biotin
Vit C
Acai berry
B12 shot once a month (I do this myself now)

Still colder than a witch's boobie outside. Snow is in the forecast. Crapped my pants on the way to work so I am now commando, have a headache, and tummy is hurting.

Gotta get busy, leaving early today to visit momma.

Love and hugs,

annie175

Mel - I am ALL for a tea/hot cocoa party! Can we add a little schnaaps to the cocoa?

Annie - I hope your tummy settles down and you feel better soon. Enjoy your visit with momma this afternoon. I'm putting the trash out tonight...not as much as you have, but enough. I hope you don't have to work too late on NYE at CVS...you don't want to be on the road with all the crazies. That'll be nice to spend NYD with mom. Enjoy every moment. What helped me get through was to treat every day and every moment as a gift. Gosh, Annie, you're like me and call it midnight somewhere around 9 or 10 pm! DH usually tries to wake me up as the clock strikes 12...but he's not always successful. I am DEFINITELY with you on SERIOUSLY getting SERIOUS starting on Monday. After reading the bariatric basics, I think I can limit carbs and for sugars only do fruit or artificial. Sounds good, sista!

Shad - For our January thread...can we Joyously Jiggle AND JETTISON our junk ? I wanna jiggle my junk right OFF me.

Happy - I hope you have a great day!! Do you have tomorrow off? Or any special NYE plans?

Kewl Chelle, we're on for the 4th. I work till 10 pm on NYE and the drive home is 1.5 minutes. Hopefully I can get home safely. Oh wait, doggie sitting will be a 2 minute drive to Jen's house to let Butter and Gypsy out first.

FORGOT to add to bariatric way of living.....drink tons of water too!!!

Hi everyone. Running some reports for the quarterly schedules I have to complete. Otherwise, pretty quiet here today. The movie "Precious" we saw last night was well-done and moving. I liked it. The life of the main character was so sad, yet there were some funny and uplifting moments in the movie. It made me feel very fortunate for my childhood circumstances. Worth seeing. I have to say I probably only caught half the dialog due to the way the characters spoke – but it didn't cause me to miss any of the meaning of the story.

Ceejay – In our previous office space, I had a space heater because it was always cold in the winter. The office we're in now is usually not cold, so I won't go the space heater route - yet. I think maybe over the long holiday weekend the heat was turned down and it's still not back to normal. My legs are cold again today – I have a sweater draped on them right now. My tea is ice cold again. Need to get a hot refill. :coffee:

Michelle – Your weekend sounds fun and low key. Re weekend plans – the past several years we've just had a few close friends over for NYE – no big deal. Preparations include a few snacks, some beer, and a bottle of bubbly for the midnight toast. The friends who stay really late or stay overnight are close friends of bf, so if I feel like going to bed not long after midnight, I can - and I don't feel like a bad hostess. Yesterday bf told me that a couple that we don't normally socialize with outside of certain "family" functions will be coming. (Bf has known this whole family since his early teens and socializes regularly w/ 3 of the 4 siblings, and it's the 4th sibling that we're not as close to who's coming w/ his gf.) I'm sort of annoyed by this because this makes it more than just a casual group of friends. So now instead of mellowing out on the sofa w/ my glass of wine, I'm forced to make preparations and be sociable. :gossip: Drats! No other plans for the weekend except for a blood donation and a hair appointment on Saturday. I intend to try out some crochet stitches this weekend. Other than swatches of various stitches, I have no idea what else I'll do. I'll take some photos though.

Mel – Glad you got out of the lunch w/ that demanding gent from India. A DVR is a cable box, but you can record shows onto the box's hard drive for later viewing. Also, when you watch shows "live", you can also pause and rewind them – very cool! Sorry to hear about the tenant going to the hospital. A tea party sounds very nice! I will bring my chai!

Annie – Ugh, you're working NYE at CVS – I hope you don't have too many drunks/crazies coming in! Glad you get off relatively early that night! I'm with you to jiggle my junk into the new year, and hopefully jiggle some of it off, LOL. Food has been off –track this week, and my pre-weigh in weight this morning was horrifying. I'm hoping at least some of the gain is due to the temporary effects of the evil TOM visiting me this week. I may beg off reporting my "official" weight tomorrow if the scale doesn't lighten up on me!! Hope the head and belly feel better soon!

Hi Happy, Hi Shad!

Cheers to all!
:celebrate:

Laura...Christmas day was a bunch of crazies too! They got madder than heck cause Indiana does not sale booze on Christmas. Tried to argue the point with us in hopes of selling it to them anyway. Like it was not me or CVS imposing that rule so get a life. Jeez

Odd...mom had dialysis yesterday for 5 hours, then they took her again this morning as they did not get enough "water" off her system. Dad and I are going to meet at the home at 4:30 to see what is going on. I know the end is getting close however I want to KNOW what is going on with my mom.

Laura - thanks for the movie review - I thought it would be a dark movie too, glad to see it wasn't. . I saw the actress who plays the lead role on Oprah. She is a beautiful young lady, so upbeat and positive - she was in college and tried out for the part on a whim. My podmate has an afghan at her desk she uses on a regular basis as we work in what used to be an old warehouse and it's impossible to regulate the temps. I hope you don't have to go too much out of your way for the NY festivities. Just make some tasty munchies and push the buddies off on the BF while you sneek to bed

I am working tommorrow but we get off at 2pm. We are having a quiet New Year's Eve as we ususally do. We traditionally have a candlelight dinner with something tasty. This year DH is trying his hand at a nice beef tenderloin dish. There is NOTHING on TV to watch for New Year's festivities so I might just watch the ball drop in NYC and let DH off the hook this year - or tell him that HE has to be the new year's festivities  . I plan to spend the weekend cleaning up and getting organized and tidy for the new year ahead. DH also bought me a "learn the piano" course for Christmas so I will try my hand at that - if I can remember how to turn on my keyboard - as well as figure out how to use my I-Touch.

Annie- at least you don't have to ring in 2010 by "ringing" the cash register at midnight  Glad you have a short stint home - I wouldn't want you driving far either. Thanks for the bariatric WOE. First half would be no problemo for me. Now caffeine and sugar - particularly sugared drinks - ummm that will be hard. But I am willing to give it a try. I do agree with you that we forget how good we feel eating clean. It's funny that you commented on how when you stop for coffee and get out of your routine, you wonder if the timing might have made you avoid a mishap on the roads. I think the same thing - particularly when I am stuck behind an old "gray hair" who likes to drive well below the speed limit. I tell myself that there is a reason for it and that if I try to speed ahead, I might be heading right into some trouble or an accident. You've just reinforced that very logical thought. Hope you enjoy your time with Mom and don't have too many last minute boozers and sickees (as opposed to sick-o's) at CVS tomorrow night.

Ceejay - we use the back arrows << or < on the remote to rewind the DVR. I love it myself. DH loves that we can tape a show and zoom past all the commercials. Particularly for those shows like the season ender of American Idol where it's 60 percent commercials anyway. Did you get snow or ice? It's pretty cold out but looks worse up your way. Are you off for New Years?

Michelle - I'm all for Jettisonning the Junk but I don't know about the jiggling part. Might be painful for me and just toooo UGLY for others to see  Your new year's plans sound like fun. Glad you could catch up with friends. I'm with you on not getting up this morning. The house was cold (63 degrees) but the pillows were wonderfully cool and the blanket nice and snuggly. I did lay in bed an extra 15 minutes with a smile on my face. I shouldn't be surprised but in a way I am that you are such a football crazy  I can totally see you hollering and yelling at the TV :cheer: Hope you can blast through the housecleaning and enjoy time with friends and family.

Mel - you do set the prettiest table, I do declare  Actually it made me want to go brew up a cup of tea myself. Count me in for the party. I think you need to find one of the available seniors for Mr. Indian guy - sounds like he needs a woman in his life and we know you are too busy to court right now  Besides he's probably not hunky enough for you, right? :D Hope you get the rest of the laundry done - look in the clean pile and perhaps you might have enough to skip it until next week  Are you spending New Year's with Jen and Ritchie or will you just cuddle up with your bad self? Can you see the fireworks over the river from outside your place? I'm sure you probably are fast asleep by then.

Shad - I admire you - getting up at 5am and painting :yikes: You are very ambitious! Had to laugh at your comment about making DS2 suffer his own tiling adventure  Sounds like you have a long drive ahead of you. Didn't a cyclone just hit not too long ago? Thought I saw mention of one on the weather channel when I was up at Mom's place. Safe travels to you and Happy New Year as you are the first to hit 2010 in our group.

My boot is extremely uncomfortable. Not sure it is helping my foot. My gait is all off so it's affecting joints and back too. Will be glad to have the long weekend where I can stay off of it and rest it naturally. The few people at work are teasing me because they can hear me coming long before I get there with the crunch, crunch of the velco straps.

Time to get back to work now... see yah

Call the thread what you like, I don't mind. I probably will be on the road to Melbourne so you will need to get Mel or Happy to set it up or set it up yourselves.

Annie - look after yourself and I am proud of your for the way you are holding up with everything that is going on in your life right now. Sure that way of eating sounds sensible and I will be right back into it just as soon as I get back to Melbourne - for the next three months.

Michelle - Holler at them footballers. I too love my footy, but it's not the same footy as your footy. Jiggle your way round the housework as well. You might get a headstart on us.

Happy - Move that boot  Yes we did have a cyclone and are still reaping the benefits (?) from Cyclone Lawrence which came ashore in Western Australia (up around Dampier where I was a year or so back) and is only now drowning the rest of the country as a tropical rain storm. Still it is nice to have the water - just a little less of it and a bit more sun would be nice.
Sounds like you have NYE all worked out. I will be sleeping it off I'm afraid.

Mel - Maybe you should get together with the Injun. If he has enough money to go back and forth to India and the US then maybe you could use some of it as well. :lol3: I'm with you on the lack of technology. DS2 has explained the workings of the new tv but I'm thick enough to not remember that the thing goes to sleep when it encounters lack of movement!!!! What - and here was I thinking that the idea of tv was to sit and watch it!

Laura - get knitting and crocheting. I used to do it years back, but haven't touched it in years. Maybe if I get to retire I can take it up again. Hope NYE works out okay.

Ceejay - hope you work out that DVR - see above, no point in my input. I'm thick like that.

DS2 challenged me to a Wii game of bowling - best of three - and a game of tennis last night.
He beat me two to one at bowling but I thrashed him at tennis. Then I quit while I was ahead. I knew my luck wouldn't last. It was fun though.
Anyway, I'd better get back into it. Things to do and pack and get on with. I need to decide whether to go tomorrow morning or go on Saturday. I'll work on it while painting this morning. One gives me time, but makes me leave home earlier. The other leaves no leeway if something stupid happens - like C. Lawrence making the rivers rise!
Back later.

I took piano for 8 year in my younger day. And that would have been my major but dropped out of college. If you need some help give me a hollar.
I'm getting my dulcimer out of it's case for the first time since I've bought it las summer.

More later. I keep getting interupted.

Annie - I hope your mom's dialysis today goes okay. Hang in there.

Happy - I just love how you and your DH always celebrate NYE with a romantic candlelight dinner! :) As for the DVR, I don't know what I'd do without it. It's so great to pause live TV to let the dogs out and zoom through commercials.

Shad - So glad you and DS2 are having fun at Wii games. I LOVE the bowling, and I'm not too bad at tennis. Given all the cyclones, I'd probably leave earlier if I were you. But maybe Mother Nature, and luck, will be on your side.

Well, ladies, I'm heading home soon for the long weekend. I'll try and check in tomorrow and Friday when I need a break from cleaning!

Wishing all of us and our loved ones a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year!!!

Much love and big hugs,

Ceejay - I really wish I could play a musical instrument well, or knit/crochet. So many wishes and not enough time to pursue them all. I keep telling myself that I gotta spend my free time getting fit and healthy so I'll live long enough to pursue my other goals/dreams.

Good last morning of 2009 to you ladies,

2010 - I can't believe it. Time is really flying. At some point I got old. Looked in the mirror at work yesterday, an old face looked back at me. Gotta change that. I'm up a pound on the scale - not sure how that happened as I have been rather dilligent in my food since we got home this week. My foot hurts and so does my whole body as this boot really throws off your normal walk. I'm hoping a few days of rest over the long weekend will help stuff out. Anyway, a new year, a new decade (is it?) and a new fresh start lies ahead.

We have quiet plans for tonight and the weekend. That's ok with me.

Watched the movie "The Wrestler" last night with Mickey Rourke (probably my number 3 most unfavorite actor) and Marisa Tomei (probably my number 3 favorite actress). I only watched it because everyone was saying how awesome / academy award worthy it was. It was a decent movie but not (in my opinion) as amazing as they talked it up to be. I thought Four Christmases was dumb too. Watched Julia and Julie when we got home this week. I thought that was an interesting movie mostly because I think Meryl Streep is amazing and when she climbs into a personality as big as Julia Child, it's just fascinating to watch her. So that's my movie reviews for the year

Annie - hope things turned out ok for Mom and that they have her stabilized. Hugs to you and her :grouphug: I'm sure you will have a busy weekend.

Happy New Year Shad - we exchanged 2 sentences on Facebook last night. Only 34 more minutes for New Year's Day on your side of the world and you'll be heading back to work. Travel safely. Hope the trip is not too boring.

Mel - I will learn to play the piano - ready for 1,000 off key renditions of When the Saints Go Marching In? You can play the kazoo or sing along to accompany me and we can beg for coins  Thanks for the hug, I feel a little bit better for it  Hope you have a quiet night - lots of seniors like to check out on New Year's Eve. Hope that is not the case with your building.

Michelle - happy cleaning - don't knock yourself out. I agree with your philosophy of devoting time to health and fitness and making that a priority . Especially since it can be time consuming. I am committed to making time and practices for good change this year. We can do this together.

Ceejay - I love the sound of the dulcimer. Hope you were able to play around a bit yesterday.

Laura - hope your company doesn't stay too long tonight. Enjoy your party.

I have to get some work done yet so I'd better get to it. I will set up the new thread for January. Jiggling our way to Jettison the Junk in January or something like that...

:newyear: Good health and good times to all my 3FC friends in the upcoming year.

Good Thur/Fri...as this is the last day to work this week at Humana. Kind of looking forward to working at CVS tonight, I just love the crazies that come in, makes me feel at home. LOL

OK...the reason mom had dialysis is....and I wish they would of told us instead of making us freak out all day is....the schedule was backed up by one day due to the holiday tomorrow. She will go back on normal schedule starting Saturday. The baffoons. Actually she had a good evening last night when we were there. My bro, SIL, dad and I were in her room waiting on her return from dialysis and I think it brightened her day. She actually talked with us and ate about half of her dinner. V I C T O R Y!! I clipped and filed her nails which needed it badly. She was in a good mood and actually got cracked up laughing at one point. THen my bro and SIL took me to dinner at El Rodeo Mexican, I had half of a chicken burrito, 4 chips with salsa, that's it. Brought the rest of the burrito for lunch today. All and all a good night. It is a tradition in Indiana to eat cabbage on New Year's day for good luck for the entire year. (really hasn't helped much in tha past). I asked mom if she wanted fried cabbage or fried cabbage with noodles for New Year's Day. She just wants the cabbage, so that is what I am going to fix for her. Maybe slap in a bit of maple sausage for the extra protein for her. I feel postive and happy today, hope it lasts. Won't answer any phones today so it doesn't get changed. lol.

Chelle...enjoy your long weekend girlile..

Happy...hope the rest at home brings some relief to the foot. Dang it anyway.

Shad...happy new year to you before us. lol. Safe travels.

Ceejay...don't cha hate it when our personal life gets interruped with crap.

MELLIE....Will be snoozin in the new year with you...Cheers!!

Happy Happy New 2010 Year everyone, let's have a blessed, healthy, PROSPEROUS, safe, relaxing, enjoying, 2010!!!!

Many many hugs back at you all and Much love.

Hi everyone. Last day of the year and the decade today. It's a bit livelier here in the office today because the department next to us seems to be back in their entirety, except for the dept. head. This is the dept. being partially outsourced, and it's the last day at the co. for three of them. One other will transfer to another dept., and that will leave 3 of them (including our former lead admin – good riddance and glad she's not our problem anymore!), plus dept. head. So I'm sure it'll be a sad time for them later on today. Speaking of later on – I was hoping to see an e-mail telling us to go home at noon, but nope, so it's 3 pm. I might sneak off an hour early, unless I find myself working on some truly compelling project, LOL.

I was being rather grumpy yesterday about our little NYE party tonight, but I've decided to I'm not going to stress about it. I'm going to bring up some of our games from the basement and hopefully people might want to play games - I enjoy Scattergories.

I'm not reporting my weigh-in today because it's just as ugly as it was yesterday! It's bad enough that I gained some weight over the holidays, but to have TOM adding a couple temporary pounds to the heap – well that's just not a very kind weigh-in scenario for the final WI of the year. While I'm sort of sad that the time of holidays and long weekends is over, I will be glad to return to a routine that will be good for me.

Shad – I know you're on the road, but wishing you a Happy New Year! You're the first of our bunch to get to 2010! :newyear: Hope you're having a safe and hassle-free drive.

Ceejay – We have a musician in our midst and we didn't know it! My bf plays piano and is currently learning to use some kind of sophisticated music production software in conjunction w/ his electronic piano.

Mel – Sorry to hear about Richie's friend passing away so unexpectedly – so tragic. Hope it stays quiet in your building and you don't have anyone, drunks or others, knocking at your door! You might have quit the chai because it's frustrating finding the spice blend that's just to your liking. The one I currently use is about 90% there.

Happy – I'm so sorry your foot continues to be a pain for you! I hope giving it rest over the weekend helps it heal. I thought the movie The Wrestler was entertaining. I don't like Mickey Rourke much myself, but he won an award for the role – but was it a role, or was it pretty much him playing the person he became? I didn't bother to see Four Christmases – it got horrible reviews and I haven't tried to catch it on cable. I enjoyed Julia and Julie – Meryl Streep is just great! I definitely want to see It's Complicated w/ Meryl, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin – I like all of them.

Annie – Sounds like you had a good night w/ your family last night. Hope the cabbage brings good luck to you and yours in 2010! Wow, that IN law about no liquor sales on Christmas must be a curse to those non-planners! I hope you get your share of entertaining customers tonight, but nothing too crazy! Glad you have such a short drive home – the less time on the road tonight, the better.

Michelle – Enjoy your long weekend and don't spend all of it cleaning! I agree – it's worth it to take care of our health if it allows us the time down the road to pursue hobbies, dreams, goals, etc.

Hope all the Worldlies have a safe holiday and a happy, healthy, productive, and prosperous 2010!

Cheers!
 :celebrate:

Laura...we get early release at 1:30 pm today. The director in charge said 2:00 pm but we shamed him into 1:30. He really doesn't care. We all laughed and told him we would skip lunch and leave at 12:30, that didn't fly.

I read in a magazine last night while waiting on mom to get back from dialysis that if you start every day out with a good hug from someone, even if it is a pet, you will automatically have a less of a stress day.

Off to go potty and brush my teeth...almost time to cut out of here.

Yeee haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!!!!!!!!!

Yum... sitting here enjoying a small meatloaf sandwich. We pretty much finished it off last night save for a very small end piece. DH said I could have it for a sandwich. Was a piece about half the size of my palm (without fingers). I carefully sliced it in half again with 2 paper thin pieces and laid it on a piece of rye bread cut in half, put some ketchup on it and nuked it for 20 seconds. Really was very good. I think sometimes where there's only a little - like this, I eat it slower and really stop to savor each bite. :T Probably how it should be all the time, yah think? Stopping to enjoy the flavor I mean...

It's grey outside so we probably won't see that rare blue moon on New Year's Eve. It doesn't feel like a holiday, doesn't quite feel like a weekday either. One thing I am resolving to change for 2010 is holidays. Since we moved down here and I am away from family, holidays have sort of lost their meaning. Several of them - Easter, Thanksgiving, even Independence Day (July 4th) generally involve family. Since we are here by ourselves, quite often it is just another day. And I miss holidays. So I'm bringing them back in 2010, even if I have to work extra hard and be creative about making 'em feel that way.

Annie - thanks for rewording the January title. I like the second one you picked. Glad to hear that Mom is ok for now. It's nice that you got a smile out of her. Hope there's a few more in her this weekend - cuz if she's smiling, I'm sure you are too :D OMG - fried cabbage with (thick homemade) noodles! Talk about a blast from the past. My grandma used to make that - haven't had that in ... oh... forever :hungry:

Laura - wait till I tell DH he not only has to give me a kiss, but a hug too when I leave in the morning  Thanks for the suggestion. Hope you have some fun and games tonight with your guests.

It's early out for me too. Got a few things to do around the house before DH starts supper. I will end the month with a fabulous desert - Italian Cream Cake that DH picked up at the store. I've been rather good avoiding the holiday goodies so I don't feel too bad about having a small slice.

Mel - I hope people are leaving you alone. I'm sorry to hear about Richie's friend. Hope you have a nice night with the kids.

 Michelle and Ceejay

Happy New Year to all - will set up the thread tonight or early tomorrow. Have fun! :hat:

Like the square snow man. Have the seniors been into the liquer already but maybee it is that blue moon Annie told us about. Go rest and do call John if you need him.

Happy
You made my mouth water when you mentioned the Italian cream cake. That was one of our family traditions at Christmas. The cake was a gift from a neighbor. It was extremely good and very special. Have you turned on the key board?

Wanted to wish every one a Happy New Year. Not sure as to whether I'll stay up tonight. I've been sleepy all day.

I did get out of the house today to go to the super Walmart in Blytheville to get some groceries. I've been wanting meatloaf but wanted to try turkey meatloaf. I almost bought a monitor that was on sale to put the ADT system on and get it off the tv. I may go back and get it tomorrow if they are open.
I'm not planning on going to Paragould this week end. I'm exhausted. I need this time to rest.
