Hello,
My name is Katterina and I have a few pounds to lose. My goal weight is 145 pounds.
My background:
I have always struggled with my weight. I played a lot of sports as a teenager, but I had terrible eating habits and I weighed 180 pounds at my highest. I tried a lot of diets, but never stuck with them long enough to make lasting habits.
When I was 19, my mom brought me to a Weight Watchers meeting. We really did well with the points system and I got down to 148 pounds. WW was really great: it taught me portion control and different values for food quality. But, the counting became tedious and hard to maintain due to sporadic schedules and meals, so I have yo-yo'ed between 150 and 170 since then.
Now:
I was working on a grad paper about cognitive behavioral therapy and I noticed a weight loss book on Dr. Beck's website. Intrigued, I went on Amazon and read the reviews and ordered it. It reminded me a bit of the Weigh Down Diet I tried in the 90's, so I dug out my book and read that while I waited for the other in the mail. Days later, I also saw Intuitive Eating and Thin Within on Amazon, so those are on the way as well.
While I wait on my books (I live in a very rural area), I have been using Weigh Down's method: eat only when hungry, stop when full, eat sensible portions. I do have some nutritional and theological disagreements about the diet, but the basis seems to be working so far. It feels good to be listening to my physiological hunger and not eating out of boredom or convenience.
Anyway, it feels great to embark on a new journey. I hope to make healthy, lifelong habits along the way. I look forward to meeting everyone!
Kat
