Default Weight gain, inch loss?

Hi everyone! I'm 16 years old and 2 weeks ago I weighed 157 pounds with a 35 inch waist and 40 inch hips. I workout a lot, mostly martial arts and biking but the weight just doesn't come off. I started the abs diet 2 weeks ago and now I'm 159 pounds but with a 33 inch waist and 39 inch hips. Did I gain muscle or something? Because that higher number on the scale is a bit of a downer.

If your waist and hip measurements went down you probably lost fat and gained muscle which is awesome! The scale isn't the best measure of health or fatness. If you lost an arm in an accident would seeing a lower number on the scale make you feel really good?

You could also be retaining water due to sodium-intake, muscle swelling, illness, or menstrual cycle. Plus, at 16 you're still growing and that's a whole 'nother ball game.
