Morning ladies! One week til Thanksgiving, lets stay strong!
I got super excited this morning when I weighed in because the scale read 184.5, but then it danced back up to 185. I hate when the scale dances!
What do you all have planned for the day?

Work (and its going to be busy since I called out Friday) and then school. I didn't get up and exercise this morning (codeine, man...) but I'm going to go for a walk at lunch and then I'll walk around campus later, and tomorrow I can play Wii Fit when I get home from school.
I'm also back on the down slide - 192.2 - and tomorrow is my last day of antibiotics, so hopefully I can be back out of the 190's again.

Today I'm going to a shop where I applied for a job, to see if I got it, then I'm going to go buy some food and head to the gym, think I'll bring a magazine to read in case there aren't any swimmers to look at (the ellipticals face a swimming pool).
Weightwise, I haven't weighed myself today, but will do it tomorrow again.

Hey everyone! About to head for work. Had a good weigh-in. Down 5 lbs for the week! Whoohoo! Now, I just have to keep at it so I can get down even lower. Who knew counting calories could be so easy for me?
I hope everyone has a great afternoon!

This means I can work out after work. Yay!!

Speaking of scale dancing, mine is dancing in a range of 16 pounds right now! arrrrrgh.
School is starting to get tough; all of our assignments have been dumped on us at one time and the semester is finishing in about 3 weeks. I'm pretty excited to get back to the U.S. and see my family/pets, but at the same time I want more time in Europe. There is still so much I haven't done; the problem with studying abroad is you have to, well, study. Lol.
Any exciting news from you ladies?

Yay! I hope you ladies don't mind if I join the chats. :)
Not so great weekend - HUGE assignment due this morning, it was really stressful. Stayed home all weekend to work on it, ended up getting the munchies severely. However, it's DONE! Yes! I've got another due Wednesday, but it's not as big ... hopefully I'll be smarter about it this time, I'm def ready to get back on track this week. Will go grocery shopping today so that I have healthy stuff at home, and am going to the gym this afternoon!

So, my best friend brought her dog over today and while we were taking a walk, we came across a puppy (little maltese, approx. 6 months old) wandering around in the street. We knocked on doors for a while and whoever was home didn't know anyone in the neighborhood with a dog, and the rest weren't home. Since both of us used to work for the same animal rescue, we know how to handle this type of situation.
There was a man who basically said he and his daughter would very much like a dog, and he'd "take" her off our hands. We smiled politely and continued asking around. After a while we decided to take her back to my house and make "dog found" posters to hand out around the houses where we found the puppy. We're going to go asking around tonight again with posters and if we find the owner we'll gladly bring the puppy back to its owner. I hope we find who she belongs to tonight though.
This always happens to me (not that I mind, I'm an animal lover) - stray animals find their way to me.

Platformnine- too cute! Aww i totally couldnt take it home, it would never leave. The real owner would have to pry it from my arms! Although my cat probably wouldnt be too impressed  She'd be pushing it out the door.
Last week for me was nuts. I was up in Whangarei for work on Thursday and Friday, so I was panicking on Wednesday (and eating us out of house and home) because i'd never been away for work before and I had to organise it all. And I had to fly on a tiny plane >.< Plus I had around 1000 uni exams to mark before I went (no exageration). Plus I had my own full time study to do. So thats the last time I take on 3 jobs and study full time.
Anyways, back onto it today. Last night I couldnt sleep, i think I fell asleep around 12:30, woke up at 2 and 3am, then my parents woke me up leaving for work at around 6:30, and I had to get up at 7:30 for my personal trainer. I thought i might faint at some points during my session >.< So I might just take a nap and then get onto doing something productive.

Lol Icon, as much as I'd love another dog (and since I miss my little maltese-yorkie mix that my step-sister took with her when she moved out) we already have a dog and 2 cats! We're kind of a take-in zoo. You're a stray? We have room in our house! Lol

I made it home from my weekend away a LOT later than I was originally expecting. I didn't walk in the door until 1:32 this morning. Then, my alarm clock went off at the insanely early time of 5:30am!!! My eyes were burning all day long. But I had such an absolutely AMAZING time at the skating competition.
My friend was able to get comp tickets for us through her work and we were sitting third row center throughout the whole competition!!! We also got to go on a backstage tour and sit in the Kiss and Cry area and take pictures! Lastly, we got hospitality passes that entitled us to free food and drink all weekend long. I felt like such a VIP or rockstar!!! It was amazing :)
It's so sad to be back to reality now though. I love my "skating world" much better than my "normal world" LOL

Mary- Aww im soo happy you found the dogs owner.
Well ladies today was one of MANY of the first official "clean the house boot camp" day haha.(9 more days) I wasn't able to get my daily walk in this morning because of cleaning but Im planning on doing an extra workout tape tonight for that extra push. So wish me luck. Hope everyones having a awesome day :)

Pammy- I bet cleaning burns a lot of calories! I pump up music while I clean and fly about the house. It's so great. I looooove cleaning.
Haha... I though I'd change up my in home workout today so when I was grocery shopping I checked out the "fitness" section of the store and the DVDs were on sale, so I got a "Dancing with the Stars" Latin dance DVD. I'm just getting ready to put it in and we'll see how it goes. Anything that can make exercise fun, and especially dancing, is fine by me. C25K is on hold because I can't get the stamina to run outside in the cold now. I'll start up again when I get a gym pass when the semester resumes in January.
So I have some bad weeks where I don't eat great and don't exercise enough. But then I look at my total loss of 26 pounds now, and I'm pretty excited. It's the overall, and the lifestyle change that counts. I've lost 56 pounds since starting college, and 26 in the past 3 months, and I'm pretty proud of myself. It's getting easier for me to eat healthier now, and make better choices, and I haven't had a "binge" day in over a week, which is really great for me. I'm just in a very pleasant mood right now and know I'm gonna meet my goal.

11-16-2009, 08:44 PM
Pammy - WW gives you activity points for cleaning. Have at it :)
Platform - Yay for finding the owner! They must have been thrilled.
sgregg - its a long story lol. So...in highschool my friend's screen name was Isis, I wanted to be a goddess too, so I looked up the Roman name for Isis, and it was Stella Maris, which is kind of cool, but was the name of a boat my dad captained, so I just changed it to Stella Rosa, because my name is Jennierose (translated from Genirosa) so it kind of fit :)
I know I say this a lot, but God do I love exercising. I'd use a 4-letter word to say that, but I'd get in trouble on here. I did 45 minutes of interval running, and I feel amazing. I've really been missing the huge calorie burn that spinning gives me, and I feel like the interval running at least gives me the same amount of putting my heart rate up and down, that it may be somewhat comprable? Probably not, but I'm in my fantasy world :) I think the endorphin rush makes up for the fact that its been a while since I...well anyway...I'm single, I'm starting to like to run, I'll leave it at that ;)

Stella- I never looked at cleaning as a workout even the slightest bit. I guess because Its such a pain. I feel you on the exercising thing. I hate getting started but once I do omg I feel amazing. I love my red face and sweaty chest when im done it totally makes me feel accomplished. My sister actually told me that she thinks im addicted to exercise, and I told her Thank you! I get what your saying. Im not single but Im single in the sense that I only get to see my bf every few months and im DYING! Trust me im counting down the days! I need my extra cardio ;) haha

Second the loving exercise thing! I never expected to get to this point, but this weekend when I was in FL, I woke up super early naturally and my body really wanted to exercise, even though I'd had about 5 hours of sleep at that point. And heck, who am I to say no to that? It's amazing how much more level it keeps me throughout the day - like, I'm in a much better mood all day and I handle stressful situations better. Very cool :)
As for me, I spent most of my work day planning wedding stuff. I really need to get down to business on some of this stuff (which would be a lot easier if my dad would give me a freaking budget number...) - things book up really fast! It is making it easy to stay on plan though. I need to start wedding dress shopping soon and I'd like to have a bit more off before I get into that.

Evening Girls!
I made it to the gym, and I came home and had WW approved soup and grilled cheese for dinner. I love winter time soup is a staple at my house. I was going to do my profile again tonight I dont know if I have the energy right now for it.
I also came home today and my new room was painted so it looks like I could be moving furniture in tomorrow and the rest of this week. I still live with my parents but they totally gutted my sisters room. They put up new drywall, new and more electrical outlets that were desperately needed, insulation the whole nine yards. So now it will become my room and my sisters will be getting my parents room and they will be taking my room. Yay, now I just have to start saving for my new TV to go in there.
Off to the shower for me!

Woohoo... I just did my new dancing DVD for an hour and it was pretty sweet. Once I learn all these moves I can do it to my own Latin music. I love Latin music! It was pretty workout intensive if you really got into it and I was sweating. I love dancing and sweating. :)
I might actually go play DDR for a little bit before I shower. How fun! I'm pretty excited, though starting to get energy sapped. I may have a snack first. :)

And I love Kelly Osbourne and she is dancing to Robbie Williams right now which is making me practically freak out. That is my karaoke song!!! And congrats on your huge loss :)
Platform- glad you found the puppy! my coworker got a maltese/pomeranian mix and brought it to work, and I was smitten, but then she decided she couldn't take care of it and returned it to the original owner :( I think I was a lot more devastated than she was.
Stella-you have such a pretty name :) and ditto to you and pammy on the endorphin benefits of getting sweaty through...exercise
smisen- i can't wait to go wedding dress shopping. I'm not close to being engaged but I'm obsessed with Say Yes to the Dress. Definitely post some pics when you start to go :)
Bee- soup is a winter staple for me too...i have this eggplant I have to use and I was thinking of making it into a potato-based soup and puree it. I love just putting things on the stove and having them simmer away, heating things up and smelling good.
I'm going to try my hand at making a spin mix. My spin instructor said she edit it and use it in a class if I did it. I miss exercising outside, but at least I have this new-found love of the gym to get me through the winter.

Forestroad- Well I like it, but I think the moves are rather basic, depending on if you know any of them or not. I have never tried Latin dance before, so I enjoyed it and learned a bit! They keep you moving non stop, even between the more difficult moves they have you continue to do the basic step while they demonstrate the next move.
I liked it because it teaches solo dance! I'm taking a Swing and Salsa class next semester but we will be having partners and whatnot for those moves, so this is one you can really do on your own.
I finally realized why the ladies wear those heeled shoes while they dance. I've been doing belly dance forever, where you wear no shoes, but a lot of time you are flat on your feet, but the Latin dance keeps you up on your toes! The heels would be more supportive than having none! I need to get some character shoes for my dance class.

Forest - Thanks! My parents needed to be creative...my mom's grandmother's name was Genirosa, and my dad thought they should Americanize it (which I don't understand since my dad was BORN in Italy, but anyway).
Bee - I love soup too! I make the WW 0 point veggie soup, and I eat it with my lunch every day. It kind of takes up volume so I don't binge at lunch. Plus veggies never hurt anyone.
Everlasting - that DVD sounds awesome :)
Haha! 191.0 - Water retention is going DOWN!!! I'm so friggin excited. Now to fight to be out of the 190's again. I can so do this. My last day of antibiotics was this morning, and after running last night I feel like I'm at 95%, so yay! We're having Fakesgiving this Saturday, and I'm cooking most of the food, so I have control :) I'm going to force healthy food on the boys, and they're going to LIKE IT...

My dog (a shih-tzu) would never let me bring another doggie in ... I think she's confused as to why we keep the cat ;)
I wish I loved exercise! Could someone bottle that for me? I would pay a premium! :)
Bee Soup is sooo good in the winter. My fiance hates it or it would def. be dinner several nights a week. (It still is on the nights he d/n come over :))
Had a wierd weekend ... My fiance got back from a work trip and we went out to eat Sunday night and Monday night. I ate over my calories both days ... I didn't binge, I just ate too much (I differenate the two, b/c I've struggled with BED & the difference to me is huge) Anyways ... last night we ate Mexican and ended the meal with a Fried Ice-Cream ... I was dreading getting on the scale this morning and ... magically I had lost .2 lbs (not much to talk about, but since I was sure I had gained) :carrot:
Why is it that when you're sure you're going to gain you loose and when you're positive you're going to lose you gain? :?:

I loooove making soup. You can just put anything in and most of the time it's great. If not... just add something else to cover up the flavor. I'm trying to figure out a recipe for our "Thanksgiving" meal with the fellowship this Sunday. It's always bring a dish to pass, and I never like to suffice for the traditional mashed potatoes and gravy. I have a lot of apples that my mom brought up to me. A whole bushel, so I need to do something with those. Perhaps some cinnamon-y hot apple sauce? Or maybe I can make some apple dumplings... apple muffins? I don't know. Something with apples. I still have a couple days to decide. Any ideas here?
Ugh... I work today from 2pm-11pm. :( Although the shift from 7-11 is a respite shift... I have 3 kids to watch... 14, 12, and 6. It's always difficult to come up with something they all like to do, even though the oldest has a CI that makes her more cognitively like a 7 or 8 year old. I try to avoid the put in a movie thing, because I feel like I shouldn't be getting paid to have the kids watch a movie every shift, even though they all like to do it. Thinking about taking some music and having a dance or something. Party it down! I found a great vegan gingerbread cookie recipe that I can use next week when I work with them!
Ashbee- Don't call it exercise! Call it something else! I love dancing, biking, hiking, and going for walks, but I hate exercise. :D

Everlasting - a good friend of mine recently taught me how to make apple crisp.
You cut up the apples, then toss them with quick oats and cinnamon and a little sugar (it really only amounts to about 2 tablespoons for a huge serving dish (you *could* use Splenda, I guess) - then you bake it at 350 for 15 minutes, and you get this hot, gooey, very healthy dessert.
I don't even think it would have to be for dessert, and you could probably do without the sugar, just add some more cinnamon and nutmeg and you'd have a nice, tart dish.

Stella: That recipe sounds delish! I might have to try that one myself and I am usually not an apple person.
I am glad I am not the only one who like soup. It makes me all warm inside LOL.
Work today is not so bad I have been pretty productive. I am starting to get a slight headache though I would assume the staring very intently at my computer screen would be doing that. I am going to see my grandparents tonight after work.
Hopefully when I get home I wont have to make dinner. I walk in the door last night and my dad who has been home all day asks: So what are you making me for dinner? I deem Tuesday Jennierose's take a bath and pamper herself night, complete with (way too expensive) bath products from Lush.
I'm done with my points for the day, otherwise I would have been tempted to throw in some wine, but nah.
I just bought new pj's from VS, and yes, they were expensive, but I haven't bought pajamas in so long and they're SOOOOOO soft. I got one of those sleep shirts and silk lady boxers. Yes, I'm sleeping alone, but I'm kind of being "feng shui" with my pjs and my underwear. I used to get such CUTE underwear, all lacy and silky, and then I gained weight and stopped. So I'm officially back on the cute underwear/pj's bandwagon. If I wear it, they will come? No, maybe not the same, but it encourages positive thinking :) :) :)

Haha, the shirts are actually way long, so I don't need the shorts. I mean I'm alone, so I really didn't need them anyway, but they're kind of like a shorter long sleeved dress. So comfy. The cat likes them. I was sitting on the couch and she was all up on me purring. Lesbo-cat. I think she's in attention withdrawl. She no longer has 4 boys catering to her attention needs at every hour.

Lol, that's totally how my cat is - but she's always like that. She's my crabby old wife that needs to be touching one part of my body at all times. And my knitting. And be sitting on my fresh clothes lol. She follows me around like a dog, and when I leave the house she goes downstairs and causes trouble with my other, younger cat lol. She's just a crabby old lady hahahaha
I like nighties. I've turned my tunic shirts that are too long to be a shirt, but too short to be a dress into nighties. I have a bunch that are everything from the laciest and girly-est thing you can imagine (for nights with the boyfriend lol) to just simple cotton ones for when I'm by myself.
Isn't it amazing how cute underwear can make you feel sexy? Last night, I went to bed in an old boyfriend's t-shirt and boy shorts and for the first time felt like he was missing out.

Stella- on the "If I wear it, they will come" attitude. My favorite pair of pj pants were from VS...not sexy, but the softest things in the world and i am bummed to this day that i somehow lost them in college.
platform- i don't know about line dancing, but I loooove contra dancing and I imagine they're sort of similar. Or like contra dancing is step dancing and line dancing combined, plus a bit of jane austen thrown in. I haven't been to one since college, but I really need to start going again.
I had the best workout tonight. I have been a little hard on myself lately for not keeping up with my running, but I'm trying not to worry about it and instead focus on just doing exercise that I enjoy doing, so tonight instead of running I got on the elliptical bc I've been really enjoying it lately since I got back into listening to music while I work out. (I broke my ipod a while back so haven't been listening to anything, but I've started listening to Pandora on my blackberry and omg the black eyed peas station is the best for working out.) Anyway, I was only going to do it for 45 minutes or so, since Tuesday is my off day, and only at a comfortable heart rate--nothing major, just building up my aerobic base. I ended up having so much fun, with my music and my Self magazine and hitting my aerobic sweet spot (160bpm for me) that I ended up staying on the thing for 90 minutes, until the gym closed. It felt soooooo good :)

Forest - that sounds awesome! I love those days when you can just keep going and going. And I MUST work out to music, if not I don't know how I'd find my pace. Also, congrats for living in the healthiest state in the country!!
Chele - Ooh. A date :) Sweating to the Oldie's sounds awesome.
I actually bought the night shirt because it was SO soft, and so warm. I'm trying to be frugal, so I keep the heat on 55 degrees (its not that cold here so its not a problem) and I figured a long sleeved shirt will help with the "maybe I don't need to turn the heat up again tonight" plan.
I've got a long work out planned tonight, including running and some Exercise TV and maybe a little Wii. I'm really enjoying running lately, but I'm only doing it every other day to go easy on my knees and shins.
I'm supposed to get my Omaha steaks in tonight, so if I can find my WW book that tells me how many points steak is, I'm SO having a filet for dinner with some asparagus.

Yay Smisen, congrats!!! :cheer:
Right, so, I officially hate water weight. I mean, I've always hated it but there is no way I ate enough (especially since I hang towards the middle to low end of my calorie allowance PLUS my workout yesterday) to be back up to 185. Stupid water weight. I'm shaking my fist at you while enjoying my morning green tea.
I am getting SO sick of this weather whiplash. Monday it was in the high 70s, then it was in the 30s at night. Yesterday it was cold and warm at the same time, and last night was FRIGID cold. I want to wear my winter clothes, so be winter already! And bring me snow. I want snow.

platformnine, Snow? Yeesh...I couldn't deal with that. lol. I think 4O is cold but that shows what kind of weiner I am. I bet its beautiful up in the tri state area now. I was up in Boston in October and it way fantastic. Anyways, I did my weighin and I came in at a huge 189.2. Annoying. I gained a pound. Oh well, will persevere. Have come up with some new "food rules", which is always good. Oh, and has anyone seen the "Videophone" beyonce/lady gaga vid? crazy.

Redliss - Lol, I loooove the snow :D And it is quite pretty this time of year with all of the color changes in the leaves.
Actually, it's really nice out today. Perfect fall/winter weather - the air is crisp. I think I'll take my dog to the dog park today :D

I love snow too. And I'm getting used to driving in it now that I have studded snow tires and all wheel drive. We've had a few dustings here in VT; usually the major stuff starts in early December. It's like a practically guaranteed white Christmas :)
Stella- living in VT certainly wasn't doing my health any favors when all I was doing was studying. But now that I have more time it's so great to be able to take advantage of local organic produce and lots of trails and mountains to hike and bike and ski and lakes to swim in and a general culture that cares about good food and outdoor activity.

Yeah, I'd move to New England if I knew people up there. I fell in love with Boston the first time I saw it, even with the 3 feet of snow that got dumped on me and my plane in 2 hours.
I was okay driving in the snow in NJ, and if necessary, I could just public transportation it somewhere. Not in MD. Any sort of precipitation throws everyone for a loop...

Hah yeah MD's response to any kind of weather is pathetic. I remember in high school them closing school for "hurricane floyd day" bc it rained a lot.
I am actually a Jersey fan too. Yeah it has a bad rap, but I think it all comes down to whether you see things like the Jersey Shore, Medieval Times, White Castle, and proximity to NYC as pros or cons, and I choose to believe the former ;)

Forest - See, I spent every summer at the Jersey shore - I don't possibly see how anyone could think of that as a con :D Also, I live in farm-y South Jersey (yes, ladies, there IS a difference between north and south jersey. Central doesn't exist) so I always think it's really pretty landscape :D Also, who doesn't love Medieval times?! Also - proximity to Philadelphia, Baltimore, and DC is cool too :D AND proximity to some great ski resorts! Awww, I love my NJ I'm never leaving!!! You'll have to drag me out kicking and screaming!
I have been crazy productive today. I did my classwork, cleaned off my desk (which I haven't seen the surface of in MONTHS), about to go workout, AND I re-organized my knits-in-progress and my fiber stash (I also spin my own yarn, so I have a fiber stash next to my yarn stash :D I love my crafts), and I played with my bunnies and brushed them! Now if I coud just get my laundry under control....
stellarosa27
11-18-2009, 05:09 PM
There's a BIG difference between North and South Jersey. And there will be fights if you confuse one for the other.
Although I'm going to say I think there is a central - I usually think Princeton/Toms River/New Brunswick fall into the "Central" area, but they're just a whole bunch of college kids anyway...
Ooh. You spin you're own yarn? That's way cool :)
It looks like I may not be working out tonight - my ex-roomie is coming over for dinner (yay :) :) :) ) so I'm just going to keep it under control and maybe do double tomorrow - unless I convince him to play Wii with me, and then I win :)
Boxing definitely will work off some calories...

Glee! My roomies are obsessed with that show. I just am not sure whether its a spoof of hsm or like hsm...anyways, I'm trying to stay away from tv for now. Or atleast avoid it...as much as I can.lol.
Anyways, I think I blew it. My roomie made sugar cookies and of course I topped frozen yogurt with it and a crap ton of toppings. Not good. Other than that, I stayed on track but its probs an extra 5 to 7 hundred excess calories..maybe I'm being a tad dramatic here but still...that I did not need. Must get with the program. Yes, tomorrow is a new day and I will be having lovely greens and no crazy amounts of sugar dairy products.

And btw..I watch Glee. I dont think it's like HSM. Mostly because not everyone in the school sings. And they're kinda like the outcasts, because they're in Glee club. Which btw..what is that exactly?? Is it like choir & dance together?? We never had one in my high school..
platformnine

Shopaholic - Welcome, of course you can join in! I love Glee and it's nothing like HSM. There are tons of issues on the show, but I don't want to give much away if anyone starts watching it. A Glee club is a show choir, so yeah it's basically a choir club that puts on dance numbers. The music and cast are amazing, I'm... so obsessed with that show lol. I'm re-living my choir and theater days through them hahaha!
I showed the water weight who was boss -nodnod- Oh boy, yes I did! AND my mom bought 3 size medium sweater dresses from VS the other day - I wore the black one last night and it fit :D It was the first time I was ever minutely comfortable in something so clingy.
How are my lovely ladies this morning?

I am SOOOO sore from dance last night :( I do hip hop and contemporary on Wednesday nights and the contemporary piece we were working on last night includes all these leaps and jumps, which make for one sore Sarah...
I'm taking the day off of weight loss - I've been pushing my body really hard over the last few weeks and I can feel it starting to lose steam. Sometimes, I find that if I have a "bad" day every once in awhile, that helps to convince my body that it's okay to lose weight - it doesn't have to hold on to everything I eat. Plus, I think it's good for my mental health :)
I'm not planning on going to crazy, but I did have a pack of donut sticks from the vending machine for my morning snack and I'm planning to go out to dinner tonight and have whatever I want. The rest of my meals/snacks will probably be pretty on plan though. And I'll be back on track tomorrow - I'm hoping to be in the 170s at my next WI!

Pammy - GO TO THE DOCTOR! I'm not an alarmist, I actually get kind of annoyed at all the swine flu freakouts, but you should go to the doc, get tested and get meds. My friend came down with it last Friday, got Tamiflu and was almost to her normal self by Monday. Seriously, don't eff around with it. I think a lot of the dangerous cases are people who didn't pay attention to their body.
Shopaholic - Welcome! Where in MD are you? I'm in Gaithersburg, but I travel all over the place.
Alright, I got up and ran this morning, and I was in a good mood, until I got to work. We have this weekly meeting on Thursdays, and we were discussing data audit practices, and yeah, it got a little out of hand so now I'm peeved and I'm just shutting my office door all day so I can do work and not have to talk to anyone. I'm here until 6, then I'm going to maybe work out again (I missed yesterday, its okay) and have some steak and veggies for dinner then go see New Moon.

I'm having a rough day. We had this meeting this morning, and it did not go well - it actually was like 1 hour 15 minutes of arguing. I have this one coworker that I cannot stand. He thinks he knows everything b/c he has a penis and I don't. And he stares at my chest. Yes, I know my breasts are fabulous, but they are not for your eyes.

I'm cooking a big dinner for a bunch of people tonight so I have no fear of eating too much by taste testing. So I purposely didn't eat lunch, because that time was right about before lab started, and I knew I wouldn't handle myself well. So puked up breakfast, no lunch, and likely no supper... BLEH. Hey ladies! I woke up feeling decent this morning. Must be a 24hr virus THANK GOD! Im running out of time and really need to get my butt moving to get all of this stuff done in time. Strangely I have lost 5lbs from Wed. Which I can account for not eating anything yesterday and throwing up whatever I ate Tues. For those of you that have been sick while watching your weight is it countable to say you lost 5lbs even if it wasnt by choice? Or does it mainly go back up after a few days? Losing 5lbs would put me at my goal for when my bf gets here but Im not sure if its realistic to say I lost 5lbs of weight and not 5lbs of stomach content. What do you ladies think?

Pammy - I'm glad you're feeling better! I'd say it depends.... I was sick over the summer and lost 5lbs that stayed off. Wait until tomorrow to see what the scale says?
Even though I know I was still within my calorie count yesterday (towards the high end after making those pumpkin muffins again and having a drink), sine I didn't exercise I'm NOT getting on the scale today. I'm just going to work my butt off today as per usual, enjoy my Friday night with my boyfriend and see what the scale decides for me tomorrow. I dont really understand the whole hype over the Twilight movies. I maybe one of the only people who dont but I watched the first movie and I didnt think it was nearly as good as people made it out to be, maybe its the books that make it better I dunno? I LOVE True Blood and I guess watcing Twilight just made it a kinda kiddy version of True Blood. Why do so many people love it?
platformnine
11-20-2009, 11:38 AM
Pammy - it's one of those guilty pleasures lol. I hated the first movie (well, I didn't hate staring at hot people, but.. lol) because I think Catherine Hardwicke is a horrible director and I thought the first movie looked like a low-budget indie film. I hated the second book, though, so I'm hoping the second movie is really good. (Plus, no more C. Hardwicke hehehe!)
Stella - what did you think of the movie?
I talk to my rabbits, too. They like when I coo at them. I'm sitting on my floor with them right now (they get a few hours a day to run around) and one of my poor bunnies did a jump face first into the side of my laptop! The other day she jumped right into my bureau lol. Poor thing has no grace or coordination whatsoever.
stellarosa27
11-20-2009, 12:10 PM
Ha, okay.
I will never ever say these are AWESOME and award-worthy movies, but yes, they are a guilty pleasure.
So I read the books a while ago - before they were this HARDCORE phenomenon - I think it was right before Eclipse (my fave) came out. I hate New Moon. Its depressing, and whiny and just....yeah, not my cup of tea. I will say the books are infinitely better than the movies - books always are, but there's more maturity that comes across when you read Bella and Edward than when you watch them. Jacob, not so much, but what can you expect from a 16 year old boy.
If you read them, you can understand why all of the teenage girls are head over heels for them. You have this dorky, clumsy girl who has a hot vampire and a hot werewolf fighting over her for 4 books...I mean, if I was a teenage girl I might be a wee bit obsessed, but fortunately, my cynical, 27 year old self is immune.
They definitely did a better job with this movie than they did Twilight. It doesn't have that blue tint to it, and it is mopey, but its just more visually stimulating (read: Jacob is hot even though I cannot STAND his character). Also, I enjoyed the movie 100x more than I enjoyed the book.
If you want to really bring out my nerd-dom, I really think Harry Potter is a MUCH better fantasy serious, and the plot is more complex and has a better message other than teenage heartthrobbery.
And Pammy...I LOVE TRUEBLOOD. I read all of the Sookie Stackhouse books, and yeah, they're more adult and definitely deeper - plus there's that whole mystery effect going on. Team Eric ftw.
platformnine
11-20-2009, 12:24 PM
Stella - HP is ALWAYS going to be better than Twilight ;) I'm a hardcore HP nerd, and despite my guilty pleasure for twilight, if I had to pick sides it would be HP over and over and over again :3 I'm glad to hear the movie is better than the book, though, because ugh I couldn't stand reading New Moon. Eclipse is my favorite :) Trueblood is another one of my guilty pleasures.

Stella- I LOVE the HP movies. I just couldnt really understand the big deal over twilight. I didnt even know what the **** people were talking about when you would see stuff posted about "What Twilight character are you" I was like HUH? lol. I guess your right for the teenage girls or if you got into the books maybe. How were the Sookie books? I didnt even know they exsisted until I was searching Amazon (Im an amazon browser addict) and ran into them. I am with you on the team eric... He could bite me anyday haha!
stellarosa27
11-20-2009, 12:42 PM
The Sookie books are good, I wouldn't say a challenging, overly stimulating read, but they're very enjoyable and pretty quick to get through. They're a little more on the romance novelly side of the spectrum. Or, just mysteries with a whole lot of human-vampire sex scenes (there's one thing that Twilight doesn't have - juiciness - its all very chaste) NOT the Sookie books.
I didn't realize they were so R-rated, and I was reading the first one in the room with one of my then roommates, and he was like Jennierose, why are you blushing? I was like I'M NOT SHUT UP then I went in the other room. I'm such a Catholic school girl, I get embarrassed when I read some of that stuff sometimes :)
I would definately recommend them if you're looking for something fun that's not really chick-lit.
And yes. Lovelovelovelovelove Harry Potter.

I went to the Twilight convention in Aug..met Catherine Hardwick-ick, Gil, Edi, Justin, Chaske, Alex (took a pic with him) & Kiowa..and going again in April. May go to another one before we move next Sept.
I saw New Moon at midnight..and I just LOVED IT!!! It was WAYYYYYYYYYYYY better than Twilight. Ugh. Twilight just sucks compared to New Moon. I cant believe how much it sucks. I always knew it was crappy..but I just didnt realize how crappy until I saw New Moon.
I'm going to California next year to camp out for the premiere. My friends are coming with me. Eclipse is my fave book, and I'm so very excited for the movie. New Moon was never my fave book though. I read it while my hubby was deployed..and I just felt every single pain Bella was going through. Whenever I read it, it just brings me back to that time, which btw..was the worst deployment of my life!!! I was so depressed and cried alot!! I did cry my eyes out during the movie, lol. I'm sooo Team Switzerland. Love them both!! (Although..I'm more Team Jasper, lol)
I'm not one of those people who are all like..Harry Potter vs. Twilight. Because, how can you compare the 2? One is about wizards, the other is about vampires. I mean come on, they're both great!!! I am more into Twilight..cuz I've always loved vampires!!! Always have...goes back to my Buffy days. Angel & Spike..yum!!
I've read all the Sookie Stackhouse books..and watch True Blood. Which btw..how awesome is that show!?!? LOVE IT!! TEAM ERIC!! LoL!! I also watch Vampire Diaries. Which is just a teen version of True Blood, lol. The books are so much better than the show. But Damon/Ian is the main reason why I keep on watching it.
I love vampires..I read so many vampire books too. But yes..I'm a Twihard!! It's a good thing you guys cant see my bedroom, lol. I have a Twilight wall. My hubby thinks I'm totally nuts. But he supports me, lol. I dragged him to the convention with me (I didnt meet my Twi friends until I got there. My other Twi friends live sooooo far away). He didnt really enjoy it so much...but he liked Edi, lol. I added some pics from the convention..

See, Shopaholic likes it more than I do. Team Switzerland lol.
I just think its a different degree of writing between the two series, that's all. They're both written for a "younger" audience, but I prefer HP just because of the level of detail and the plot line. The characters are entangled in some teenage romance, but its not the FOCUS of the stories, and I like the whole message of the books.

Noo. Not unless you say weirdo as a good thing, and then I am as well.
People like different things. This girl I went to HS with has all over her FB page I DON'T UNDERSTAND TWILIGHT IT LOOKS SO STUPID WHAT'S WITH ALL THESE IDIOTS. And I just want to be, oh yeah, I don't understand your fascination with Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice and all those damn reality shows, but I just keep it to myself :) :) , but different strokes for different folks :)
I'm just feisty lately

It can be fun to compare Twilight to HP in an academic sort of way, but I agree it's comparing apples to oranges. My suitemates in college and I used to get into huge arguments comparing the HP books to one another. By the end we'd all be brandishing copies of whatever books we happened to be comparing, looking for quotes and passages to support things like whether Draco was good or evil or whether Dumbledore was acting out of character in book 6. Sometimes it ended in violence...let me tell you it hurts to get hit with a hardback copy of HPatOotP. And the whole matter was further complicated by the fact that one of my suitemates read a whole lot of fanfic and couldn't remember whether certain things were "canon" or "non-canon" LOL.

Haha.
Yeah, a friend of mine is of the school of thought "if they make a movie from a book it needs to be EXACT" and I'm more of a "eh, whatever, just don't change the message." I refuse to talk to her about Twilight and HP. It just gets annoying. She goes off on these huge rants and I'm just like really. This is why you're upset? Some people get veeerry passionate.

I'm another who saw the first twilight movie and was begging to have my eyes torn out by the end xD Seriously Bella had like 2 expressions:

I couldnt stop watching her hair though xD I've never read the books. I may never do so for fear that I actually will tear my eyes out xD I did read and enjoy HP though so i guess its entirely possible twilight wouldnt be that bad.

LOL, Icon that basically sums up the books nicely. Good one! My favorite is this one, drawn by a friend of mine from the land down under:
I just had an amaaaaazing night out with my boyfriend :D We went for a walk by the park at the river, then drove around looking for ridiculous nice houses (we feel like a married couple when we do this and it makes us LOL), and then we came back to my house and had a tickle fight hehehe :3 I love my boyfriend.
However, I think my cat is getting jealous. I shut her out of the room for an hour and she slept in my parents room today, and now she climbed in my lap. Usually she just lays next to me with some part of her touching me lol.

Aw, she misses you, Mary :)
I just spent 4 hours making pumpkin pie from scratch. Let me clarify myself - FOUR pumpkin pies, not just one. Apparently 6 tiny pumpkins give you enough for 4 huge pies. Who knew. I amused myself by taking pictures and creating a FB album on the adventure.
Tomorrow I tackle my first turkey...dum dum dum.

^Those are some quality cartoons.lol. They remind of that youtube video where the two girls satrized bella and edward's relationship. Not that it hasn't been done, this was just a video I caught about two years ago and none have compared since...anyways....
Small victory or should I say medium victory? Today whilst shopping at Victoria's Secret I actually found a top I liked in their collegiate pink section. Of course, I started scouring the rack for their largest size...a large...when the little sales lady bounds up and asks me if I need help. I say yes I'm looking for a large. She replies they have them but she thinks the medium would work better. I'm like, "Okay...right." So I take the two into the fitting room and low and behold medium works best. This may not be that exciting but I don't remember when I was last able to fit, meaning actually fit. Not pour myself into. A medium. Excitment abounds. I now have 4 size medium tops and am very excited. Yeehaw.

I loooooove pumpkin pie
redliss: congrats! thats super exciting!
I took a big step forward today. I had this bra that had the wire coming out of the end and stabbing me in the elbow, and I've been just stuffing the wire back in before i wear it and it lasts the day before it tries to assasinate me again, plus its sorta too big. But its comfy and im poor. Well anyways, today i was stuffing the wire back in ( ) and i just decided to throw it out. And i did :carrot:
I have issues letting go of things xD

Stella - Mmmm pumpkin pieeee :D
Redliss - CONGRATS!! That is awesome!! :cheer:
Icon - LOL I have issues like that too... And I still have the one bra that tries to stab me all the time, except it pokes out in the cleavage end :< (not that I have a cleavage, but still, it tries to pop what little bitties I have!) I want to get rid of it, but it would only take a few simple stitches to sew it back up... I'm lazy lol
I wish my bathroom was big enough to have room for a scale that I didn't have to put away all of the time. I only have a non-digital in the basement gym that I have trouble reading (damn my eyes!) annnnd my stepdad is still sound asleep and I don't like going in there when he's sleeping. I'll feel bad if I wake him up. Arg!

You know what's funny? I don't even like pumpkin pie...
So I'm laying in bed contemplating my day. I am so sore from 4 hours of baking yesterday and I'm doing the same thing later, so I'm counting theses things as exercise. I'm standing, moving, chopping, rolling...it counts, darnit.
We're also going to be playing Wii all night and I might do some Exercise tv while my turkey is in the oven. Yay for Fakesgiving.
I kind of want to go hiking but I don't know the trails around here. I don't have to start cooking until 3....hmmm....
What does everyone else have planned for the weekend?

Stella - Jeez, sounds like your day is packed! I don't know about the weather down there right now, but today is GORGEOUS for hiking. I wish I could go today :< Maybe I'll drag my friend to the nature walk lol.
I'm going to lunch with my friends, but we're doing Sonic, sooo I'm just going to eat before we go or eat later. I also have some classwork and some serious knitting to do. 30ish days til Christmas and I still have 4 or 5 projects to knit!

I like how I say oh I'm not exercising then I go on a 4.2 mile hike. Mary, its also beautiful here - about 52 degrees so I could get away with a light sweatshirt and no jacket.
I'm now procrastinating starting to cook. I've revised my menu about 4 times and this is what I'm settling for:
Turkey (duh)
Smashed Potatoes (using low-sodium chicken broth instead of cream)
Steamed Asparagus (thank you, microwave steam bags)
Chelsea is bringing Paula Deen's cornbread stuffing (lord help me)
Francisco is making mac & cheese
I have like 8 different turkey recipes, but I think I'm just going to make my own. Its more fun when you experiment :)

stella- :O Sooo...you're sending all that pumpkin pie my way then right? :D right?
Weather today is drizzly. You know how sometimes you wake up and the humidity is like 2 mm from ur face and your hair where you've been sleeping on it has a sorta damp, limp, crushed feel to it? Its been like that the past few days. I looked up the weather and at the moment we have 99% humidty  And its 17 degrees C (or 62.6 F) So it would be lovely if it wasnt raining

I'll send you one lol - how long would that take to get from the east coast US to NZ?
The only "bad" thing in it is the cream, otherwise I used egg whites and pumpkin and spices.
My apartment smells just wonderful. Like chives and rosemary and sage. If I could I would eat the walls.

oh my gosh, I am so jealous of your menu! It sounds amazing!! What are you thinking of doing with the turkey? I'm in the UK so we don't celebrate thanksgiving but I naively agreed to cook a typical roast for an early Christmas dinner for my flatmates and am a terrible cook and will probably end up ruining the turkey!
stellarosa27
11-21-2009, 05:38 PM
I just got a turkey breast b/c my oven is kind of small.
I kind of copied Tyler from the Food Network - I took room temperature butter (I know, I know) and chopped up fresh sage and mixed it in there. I washed/dried the turkey, then coated the skin in the sage butter and seasoned it with salt and pepper. In the roasting pan I chopped up onions and carrots and also put some fresh rosemary branches. I wrapped it in foil and its currently in the oven.
The potatoes I'm boiling now, but I chopped up onions, shallots and garlic and sauteed them with non-stick cooking spray - once the potatoes are boiled I'm going to smash them and add in the onion mixture, then add fresh chopped sage, chives and rosemary with some low-sodium chicken broth and pepper. I'm not big into salt, I almost regret putting it on the turkey, but I'll see if it needs it.
And don't say you're going to ruin it! Just think that its going to be the most delicious thing ever, and that's how it will turn out. Its really not that hard (or so I've seen) - you just cook it low and slow. I searched around on the internet for a lot of recipes for this one, and I kind of cut and paste but its mostly Tyler Florence (sage butter). Granted, this is the first one I've ever done, but I've watched a LOT and I KNOW its going to turn out wonderful.
The key to cooking is positive thinking :)

We went to the dog park today! I really know better, though, I should have changed into dirty clothes before we went :[ It was soooo muddy and the dogs always jump on you lol. There sooo many cute puppies too :D My dog is now passed out at the end of my bed lol. I'm ready for a nap, BUT I have my knitting and classwork to do AND my C25K AND my dance workout dvds came so I'm SOOO excited to go try them :D I think I'll do the DWTS Latin Cardio first and I'll try the Country Line Dance one tomorrow. Stella- Im totally comming over! Sounds delish!!
Mary- Im glad you liked the tapes I would be scared to even try them because Im not very cordinated and I think I would totally suck at it.
Today I made my sister a cake for her bday tommorow. Its Paula Deens (I LOVE HER BTW) red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. YUM! Took me FOREVER to make it.
Im still a little sickly so I havent really ate much in the last two days I ended up eating a mug full of chili my sister made and thats all I have had all day. I hurt my back cleaning off the porch yesterday and now I can hardly move. I also havent worked out in 2 days which is totally unlike me but I havent felt good enough to do much of anything. I struggled making the cake as it was so there was no way I could have gotten thru a whole workout.

PammyFl
11-21-2009, 09:10 PM
Mary- NO! The people in this house you have to bribe in some way or another to get them to do anything for you lol. I have an awesome back massager but its kinda hard to use by yourself. So I just end up hurting myself more just trying to do it myself or I end up vibrating my hands off trying to hold it. I told my bf once he gets here Wed. that he owes me 5 months of back massages.

You can heat up a wet towel and that always works too. Just be careful to cool it off a little first before you put it directly on your skin (depending on how much you heated it up)

So, saw the New Moon tonight. It was good and the acting has improved. Plus, dreamy boys in every screen shot. Yum. Quality times. I've been sick though and my mom and I have decided its strep. Well, mom thinks its mono. surely hope not. That would notbe fun, as it would sideline my rowing...and life. Its mono. Not fun. Anyways, food was pretty good today. YIKES Icon - really? I mean, $90 aside, I feel like the pie would spoil before then.
If you ever come to the states I'll host a 3FC dinner. And I'll lay off the butter :)
Things went really well! The turkey took longer than it should have, but I think that's because my oven is all funky - I'm not used to cooking with electric. I'm going to upload my pictures now and I'll paste the link to the album (probably the easiest thing to do).

Yay Pammy!!!
Yeah, I mean I love to cook, the only thing is we have to eat on the floor because I don't have a table :)
We had a picnic last night, it was very cozy, so it does work. And the cat doesn't bother people - she just sleeps in the computer chair.
My legs are KILLING ME from yesterday. I guess it was the hiking, standing up all day and not drinking water (although I had plenty of wine). I'm just guzzling water today, hopefully this pain won't last.
Um, so I'm kind of wearing a size 10 jeans right now, and I'm like wait, really? They're Old Navy (and they're hand me downs so are probably stretched) but...I haven't worn a size 10 in jeans since I was 17 years old and didn't eat...
