I see people here who change their eating habits and when they slip up and eat some old favorites they no longer taste good, or make them naseous, or taste greasy, etc.

Sad to report that after 7 months, I slipped off my plan this afternoon and ate more than one food that really has no place in my WOE. And it all tasted great. The good news is I got myself under control and am back on plan after only a few hours instead of days (or weeks!). But have learned that I will have to use my continued committment to my plan rather than changed tastebuds to stay on track.

Way to get back on track! I don't think I'll ever be one of those people, I think all of that bad food will always taste good to me!

Good for you for reining it in before it got too out of control. Life happens and we're not perfect. The main thing is to not let it derail you.

And I don't think I'm one of those people, either. :^:

Nope, I'm not one either! Good for you for holding it together!

Maybe because I've not been at it that long but I will say that 'all that bad stuff' still tastes good to me too!

The good news is that you got back on track!!!

Even those people aren't always those people.

There are a lot of foods that I think do not taste nearly as good as I remember them. Salt is the most noticeable. I've always liked less salt than most people, but now it's gotten to the point that foods that are salty to most people, are unbearably salty to me (hubby has a hard time cooking for the both of us, because if it tastes good to him, I can barely eat it).

There are other foods that taste just as wonderful as they always have (or more so).

I'm not so astonished by the foods that still taste good - as by the foods I once hated, that I now love.

Brussels sprouts were not just my "least favorite" vegetable - they were my mortal enemy. If I were a super hero, brussels sprouts would be my arch nememsis.

Last week, I bought more than two pounds of brussels sprouts, and ate them all (by myself) in less than 3 days (and can't wait to buy more).

95% of the time, I am one of "those people". I really DO crave vegetables instead of high-sugar, high fat items.

But - that other 5% of the time - French fries call my name. Potato chips sing a siren song. Homemade cookies jump off the plate into my hand.

Stay strong! You CAN do this. And one of the most important lessons I learned on my journey - "Progress, not Perfection" is the goal!

Lots of my former foods no longer hold any or much appeal to me. But some of them still do and always will.

I used to LOVE Fettuccine Alfredo. I don't think I could ever eat it again. Just the thought of ALL those fat laden calories. But then again, I KNOW I WILL eat cheesecake again. Boxed cakes and cookies- like Drakes, Entemann's, Chips Ahoy, etc. I haven't eaten them in over 3 years and not sure if I ever will. Home baked cakes and cookies - that's another story.

But the truth is, even a planned splurge for me is *usually* disappointing, though not always. Now that I know better, it's hard for me to muster up the same feelings for those old favorites. So though they still taste pretty darn good (mostly), they now come with too high a price tag for me and therefore as good as they are, they're just not AS enjoyable.

I'm totally not one of those people LOL.

Although I do have a different view of what's worth it or not.
Mcdonalds for lunch? not worth it
Triple the calories going for Japanese Hibachi for dinner? TOTALLY worth every single calorie.

Me neither. Well, maybe less fond of fry-ups than before but otherwise if you can coat it in batter or smother it in chocolate, I'm up for it!

(today's resolution: eat no chocolate)

I think although some foods have lost their appeal, for me they will always call.
However on Friday night I decided to have a rich choc mousse as desert as I've been craving choc for SO long. I'd planned it and it really was wonderful, but as soon as it was finished I just thought, it wasn't really worth it.
For me right now, although I am struggling to stay positive and believe I'll ever lose all this weight, seeing the numbers go down on the scales is better than listening to those cravings.

yup your not the only one.... They still taste great but i find if i think about it in a new way i can totally say no to it. Like thoes cheesy fries at chillies. We made some at work the other day picture this a pizza pan with a mountain of fries with a mountain of chessn covering the fries also bacon on top with some green onion. i was tempted by smell but a co worker helped me by calling it the triple bypass fries and told me to get ready to run(my exercise of choice) a long while if i even wanted to taste it lol yeah tough love but it sure helped...im proud to say i walked away...:carrot:

I think it depends on the food your eating to. I think there are lots of foods that I craved and ate mindlessly that I find I thought I liked but it wasn't realy that good anyway. Like McDonalds or cheap chocolate or other takeout places. BUT then there are the foods that are just darm good like cheesecake or realy good chocolate or turkey dinner with all the stuffing and gravey. So i guess it just depends for me anyway.

I haven't tried any recently, but I think my problem is that a few bites of bad stuff always tastes like heaven...

3 pieces of candy corn, the first bite of chocolate cake, the first few french fries...

After that, with each bite the pleasure diminishes, but my problem is that I've never been able to stop at the first bite... maybe I keep thinking that if I eat more, I'll get that hit of pleasure again...

There are some "healthy" but high calorie foods that I'll love the first through the seventeenth bite... I'm trying to stay away from those right now.:)

I admire you for going off track and then getting right back on!!!!

Yep, sadly, I'm with the OP. The things I shouldn't eat still taste *fantastic* to me.

On the other hand, I also really enjoy the food I do eat, so that's a plus. It's mainly just having the gumption to not take the first bite of forbidden fruit (um, maybe that should be "forbidden fries").

I hear you, much of that stuff still tastes great to me. But now I have to really, really, really want it, and it has to be pretty special tasting if it's high calories. It's like when you start to earn your own money, it means more to you and you spend it much more thoughtfully!

Good for you for getting right back on track. I know that there are foods that I just can't eat right now -- IDK if I ever will be able to definitely not willing to "risk" it right now! Huggles

WTG on getting back on track!

I found that there are certain foods I've mostly abandoned and I'm sure they would taste good, but I have hit a point where that's not all I can consider.

For example, I work above a restaurant with lots of "no" foods on the menu- burgers, pasta, pizza, etc... and my lunch is provided by said restaurant every single day. I'm sure I would enjoy eating these things every day of the week, but I know that a) the salad I usually order also tastes amazing and b) the salad isn't going to have me passed out and bloated at my desk for the rest of the afternoon.

It's amazing that yes, they still taste good, but I don't seem to necessarily enjoy it as much as I used to, mostly due to aforementioned consequences.

Some foods still taste great and some don't. There are a few of my old favorites I don't care for anymore, like regular peanut butter. It has a weird waxy consistency for me.

THank you! I thought I was crazy. Same with some packaged foods. I can taste the plastic. Ick.

I know what you mean. Some foods will NEVER taste bad to me and any food worth me breaking my commitment for are still absolutely delicious to me and still make my mouth water. Especially things home baked white-chocolate raspberry cheesecake and bourbon-chocolate chip pecan pie. BUT, like some of the others, a box cookie, or a McDonald's French fry...no, not worth it anymore. I had 2 of my son's MCD FF a few weeks ago expecting them to be delicious and they tasted like soap to me...though they were starting to get cold...

Some things taste BETTER than before. I think it was because I never actually tasted them previously. I was shoving them down so fast I didn't bother to actually enjoy/taste it.
