Default Question about airplane seats...

I'm flying to London in March and am freaking out about fitting into the airplane seats. I am a size 24 currently and am pretty hippy. I wondered if anyone of similar size has flown without any real troubles.

I wouldn't worry too much, I am also a size 24 and have flown several times without a hitch. Hippy or not, a 24 is the same size inches around for us all. I think you will be alright. Have a safe flight.

My Hubby is an aircraft mechanic. Depending on the plane, the seats are about 2 feet wide, and in a larger trans-atlantic aircraft they may be wider.

Hubby says he's seen people larger than a size 24 fly with no problem. I used to be a size 22 so he has me to go by.

Have a good time. LOL.

Try and get a bulkhead seat - aisle - it will be more comfortable

I flew recently from Frankfurt to Bangor, ME. 5'6" and then 303lbs. I just fit into the Northwest seats, but the tray would not come down. And be sure to get an aisle seat for the most comfort; you can always pull in your arm for the carts or people going by. You will most likely need a seat belt extender but maybe not. The steward will bring you one if you request it. You can go to the airline site and once you know the type and number of your plane (e.g. Airbuss 330) on your reservation, you can see the seat measurements, then try it out at home. I'm sure you will be fine with the seat; whether or not the tray will go down I don't know. I just put a pillow on my lap and let it sit on that.

Once you get your reservation and know the plane type and number (eg Airbus 330) go to seatguru.com to find out the seat measurements, and try it out at home. As far as the tray, it may or may not go down; depends on your build. I use an airline pillow in my lap to sit it on. I was 303lb 5'6" a couple of months ago flying from Frankfurt, DE and I fit into the seat; not roomy but okay. Get an aisle seat for sure. And if you need it the steward will get you a belt extender. I had to get one but you are pretty tall so probably won't need one. Seat guru will tell you what seats are best. Once you decide, go onto the airline website and select your seat as far ahead as possible. I think it's 90 days? You can also select the type of meal. I usually get vegetarian because the calories are usually lower. Take "good" snacks!
