Hello everyone! I am scheduled to have a tonsillectomy the Thursday before Thanksgiving week. My center knows about it and I was told to stop all herbals two weeks prior to surgery and they will work with me when I am finished recouperating (which my doc said about 2 weeks). My question is this....any one have any suggestions for foods during those two weeks? I need some added nutritional value than just doing the HNS' and I don't want to be eating popsicles and ice cream only. Any nutritional drinks anyone recommends? I am in need of your suggestions. Thanks!!:?:

I say get MRC Shakes...I LOVE the Chocolate ones and would definately eat them any time if I had the freedom to just suck them down. I do the recommended ammount of water (whatever the package says) and 10 ice cubes in my blender and yum! This makes just about a 28oz shake. Plenty filling.
If you aren't planning on being married to the plan while you're recovering you can add peanut butter (protein) and banana or just add some frozen cherries or something to it as well and it'll taste good too.
If you get the Vanilla shakes you could do any number of great things in with them.
I recommend Skinny Cow ice cream snacks and there are some really yummy sugar-free popsicles out there too...just in case ;)
In any case, worry about healing yourself and not about what you're eating. Come see us some time too...we'll cheer you up :)

Thnaks for posting this. I just found out that I'm having surgery next week. I wonder if I'm suppose to stop taking the pills?:?:

i'd add fruit smoothies to that list--fat-free frozen yogurt, fruit, some skim milk. yum!
actually, before my 5k on saturday, i had a smoothie at my gym that was canned pumpkin, skim milk, fat-free froyo, and pumpkin pie spice. SO GOOD, and apparently only 200ish calories.

The shakes would be a good thing as others have mentioned. The only thing to watch for when getting anything that is fat free is to look at the carbs. Sometimes it's fat free, but they load it with sugar. Smoothies made from yoghurt would be a good, frozen bananas would be a fairly healthy choice, just probably wouldn't want to use them often as they are hight in fat. Good luck to both of you and I wish you both speedy recoveries.

E4FEWife- I would ask your center about the herbal pills (MRC6, etc.) because my center was very direct in saying I needed to stop the herbals two weeks prior to surgery. ;)
Thank you all for your suggestions! I will take your ideas and use them. I will DEFINITELY be around posting once I am on my feet.

That was my concern. I called the doctor's office today and asked if I needed to stop taking all of my vitamins, herbs, supplements, and they said no, they just don't want me taking any asprin two days before. Makes me wonder, because when I had my nose surgery two years ago I was told to stop taking all of my vitamins, etc 1-2 weeks before.

Interesting....does your doc know what supplements you are taking? I am stopping my herbal supplements today but I am continuing with the vitamins. I would listen to the doc if they are aware of the type of supplements you are taking. Best wishes on the surgery!

So when I weighed in today, they said to definitely stop the MRC and flax. I don't meet with the surgeon until Monday... I'm going to stop taking the pills though.

I am glad you asked. Don't need any more adverse affects, especially when recouperating! Best wishes on a speedy recovery!
