Just for curiousity. It's interesting to see what certain people lose at. Oh also how many lbs do you lose on average a week?

It's probably too early in this for me to say but I am between 1300-1600 (more often the upper) and I've lost on average 2 lbs a week. I weigh 260ish

I usually have always done 1200-1500 and kept up a steady loss of 2-3 pounds a week from 190s down to 150.

The losing is easy once I get going...its the maintaining I have so much trouble with. grrr!

I eat between 1200 and 1800, but for me it is more important how may I burn. I have a body bug so calories in and calories out is easy to tell. Somdays I am more active than others I just want a deficte daily. I am down 20 lbs but it is VERY slow.

I am in my 40's and based on my clcle depends on my eating and how much I lose. I am in the 160's (daily change up and down, but trending down) and 5'3"

I was aiming for 1600 a day but realistically it's more like between 1600-1700. I currently weigh 192 and have lost 53 pounds but it has taken me 10 months to do so. I lose about 5 pounds a month, or 1.25 pounds/week.

I'm aiming at 1880 and weigh 225. I'm in my second week, so I'm still not sure how my body is going to react. I may lower my caloric intake, but I'm trying to do it slowly so that I can make a life-change, or I may keep it the same and lose slowly. Who knows?! I'm just taking it one day at a time right now.

I've tried all sorts of calorie levels but 1500 seems to have always worked really well if combined with exercise. I have a calorie counting book that has a chart on exactly how many calories you should consume according to your gender, age and activity level and how many lbs you want to lose per week. So someone like me who is about 195, female, under 30 and moderately sedentary should eat 2336 cals per day to maintain, and to lose 2lb per week cut calorie intake by 1000, i.e.1336 cals per day.

My average daily calories is @1500 with average daily deficit of 1000 calories. Although theoretically that should be knocking off 2/lbs per week, I'm only averaging @1.2 lbs/week at this point. I blame it on being 50 years old and by my body getting more efficient at the exercises I have been doing so will be changing up that routine a bit.

I'm @ 260/5'5" and about 1500 cal day. It can vary up to 1700 but not often. Weight loss alters each week but maybe that's how I lose weight?

In under 2 months I've dropped 15lbs, so I average 1.5 to 2lb week loss. I haven't BIT the exercise bug yet... :/ I don't like to exercise and need to change my attitude because I know that will be the most important thing for me to maintain my weight loss.

It depends on how hungry I am on a given day, but my target without exercise is 1440 according to my BMR, and with exercise I end up eating around 1700 many days. I'm 212.8 today and losing about 1.5 pounds a week, on average. I have had some days higher than the total I'm aiming for, though, so I really should be losing two pounds per week if I didn't indulge a bit :)

I'm 43, 5'6" and 215 lbs, and finding the same thing - I aim for (and usually hit) 1500 per day, walk a half hour to an hour 5-6 days a week, and my weight hasn't budged for weeks now. I don't think you need to cut your calories you need to up your exercise. 30-min to an hour of walking is great for overall health but just isn't enough to get into a into cardio work out, you have to sweat and anyone here who is maitanance will tell you it is not just about calories in but it mostly is about calories out.

I limit (try to anyway) myself to 1200c per day and 30f (fat). I take it week by week, so I basically give myself 8400 calories and 210 fat every week.

I track everyday what I eat and also include my exercise time for that day.
At the end of the day, I calculate how many calories and fat I have left for the rest of the week (I even divide it by how many days are left in the week) which gives me an idea of what I can have daily. Some days I am under, other days I am over...as long as by the end of the week, I am within my allowance.

Here is a copy of what I keep tract in my journal on my computer:

7 Days at 1200c per day = 8400c/week allowance
7 Days at 30f per day = 210f/week allowance

So as you can see, I exceeded my calories allotted for the week by 198 and my fat by 18....but overall, not bad since I was only allowing 1200c and 30f per day.
Friday night is my "free night" in which I love pizza, so that is what I had. Unfortunately, I was up late and gave in to the craving of (2) more late night pieces....ugggg! Without that, I would have been really good for the week...but I will try harder next week not to give in to those late night cravings. I also have a weakness for McDonalds pancakes and thought "hey, I can have it once, which turned into twice this week. By putting it on my daily log, I can see where those calories and fat really weren't worth it. Keeps me motivated and thinking..."hey, I really don't NEED those pancakes...I could've used those calories and fat for something else more satisfying".

This is how I did it last year (actually a year and a half ago) when I started originally with my WL and I was able to drop 20# over 2 months. (2.5#/week on average)

I have just now started back with my calorie reduction and exercise routine as I am turning 40 in 72 days.....so that is a HUGE motivator for me. Being OW for the last 10 years is 10 years too long! I do not want to be OW and 40 something.

Well, that's what I am doing, and so far it is working for me.

I am 5'-4", currently weigh 168.5#. I lost 3# this week which is my 1st week back on this routine. My goal is 135#which I think is good for my height and body structure.

The one thing I am doing differently this time around is adding in much more exercise with cardio/weights. I have looked at pictures of me when I weighed around 130 and had absolutely NO definition in my arms/abs/legs....so no wonder I thought I was fat back then....GEESH!

Since the post doesn't come out here on the forum in the same way it looks on my journal on my computer, when I list a food that I have eaten, the first number is the amount of calories, the second number is how much fat.
Same with the total for the day.
Under remaining,
1st # is remaining calories;
2nd # is remaining fat;
3rd # is remaining calories per day I can have if I divide them by how many days are left in my week
and the 4th # is the remaining fat per dayI can have if I divide them by how may days are left in my week.

That's an interesting idea. I was losing a small amount of weight steadily when I was having more calories per day, but the loss has dropped to nothing for about four weeks now with fewer calories per day (and more exercise). For anyone who says, "losing weight is easy - eat less and exercise more," well, they have obviously not been there. :)

four times a week i have yoga or pilates, plus if i'm not lazy hour of cardio on fridays
my daily calorie intake is ~800 kcal and i lose 2-4 pounds a week
for the last five months i've lost 73 pounds with daily intake of 1200 kcal (my doctor's suggestion), but with that intake weight loss has recently stalled, so i cut it down to 800 kcal (in no way i am starving myself - i'm vegetarian so i consume lots of veggies and fruits - they're low in calories but fill up the stomach pretty well, so i just don't want to eat more than i do, i just cut out my guilty pleasures like candy bars or chocolate pudding and that's it)

At 5'8.5" and 160 pounds, a daily calorie intake of 800 kcal sounds extremely low to me, even without your frequent exercise. If you want your weight loss to be permanent, it has to be slow and sustainable, and this doesn't sound sustainable (or healthy) to me. I support your desire to lose weight, but I'm afraid you're setting yourself up for failure here.

berrybell, 800 calories is certainly starving yourself. Your BMR (what you would need to sustain your body in a coma or bedrest) is about 1300-1400 calories. Anything less than that, and you are just wasting away muscle. I would recommend you google the BMR and how eating below that will cause serious damage to your body.

Thank you twobluebirds. I apologize for taking so long to reply to this. I was having some trouble with my laptop but I think I have it all sorted out now.

I'm 235 lbs and I eat 1,500 calories/day. I also exercise 2-3x/week (although I want to bump that up to 4-6x/week). I'm currently losing about 15 lbs per month at my current weight.

I'm actually surprised that I'm losing about 4 lbs/week. It sounds like a lot but I am so heavy that on my frame, 15 lbs/month is more like 7 lbs/month on a lighter person.

Howdy,

Woman
47 yrs
1300 cal

lost 13# in 2 months
1.6#/wk which is target for 1-2#/wk

If I know I am having eating challenges, I have 4 this week, then I eat lower to compensate for the higher/unexpected calories. 1 Gala, 2 parties, and 1 Mexican breakfast with home made tortillas. I want to enjoy this events so it helps to have a few extra calories to work with. But for the week, 1300. I am switching from Linux to Mac after the first of the year and hope to have my data more organized.

I am:

- Female
- 21 yrs
- I try to keep it between 1100-1300...if I have a 1500cal day once or twice a week, it doesn't worry me too much as long as it's "healthy" calories
- 172lbs
- lost 11lbs in 1 month
- I average about 1.5lbs/week

In the short time that I've been dieting, I've had the best results with shifting calories. Eat 1100 one day, 1400 the next day, 1200, 1300, 1100, etc. This way, my body doesn't have a chance to adjust. The one week that I ate 1100 everyday, I only lost .8lbs. The week that I lost the most (2.3lbs), I did the alternating. The weeks that I ate right around 1200 each day, I gained about 1.5.

That's just what I've observed so far...I haven't been dieting long enough to make out any clear trends.

*25 yrs old
*Mother of 2
*1300-1800 calories a day
*1 hr of cardio 5-6 times a week. I usually do 20 mins of walk/run with hills, then elliptical 20 mins, and then the upright stationary bike for 20 mins. the bike is a great workout because it gets my heart rate up and is making my legs hard but I always make sure to have a extra thick towel folded under my butt so that my butt doesn't get sore from the hard seat lol
*30 mins of weight lifting 2-3 times a week. I tend to focus on arms, abs, and legs in no paticular order
*Im using sparkpeople
*My scale said 218.2 today but weigh in is not till the 18th

I'm 187 lb and I eat ~1800 cal/day.

I work on the theory that as long as I'm still losing I'm going to eat as much as I can, because then I've got wiggle room to decrease, and I'm fuller and more satisfied.

Having said that, I pretty much just eat whole foods, so I'm not sure if that allows me to eat more calories, or I'm just lucky!

About me -

43 years old
Mother of 5
5 foot 9 inches
1300 - 1500 calories a day
Gym rat 4 - 5 times a week
---strength training (45 minutes) and cardio (running)
Losing around 1 lb a week.

Although, when I started heavy lifting with the personal trainer, I actually gained weight but lost inches.

My first 25 lbs I lost with just calorie counting only. I added the gym, and the weight loss slowed down, but my body shape changed greatly.

Hi everyone!
My Stats:

30yr female
SW: 286
CW: 243
GW: 155

Started counting calories 12/5/09 (i've tried WW, atkins, low carb :( but I think calorie counting will work best:smug:). I eat between 1200-1600 per day. I try to get to the gym 2-3 times a week and work out at home to Jillian Michael's DVD 1-2 times a week.

I used thedailyplate for calorie counting help.

P.S. You all are truly inspiring. Keep up the good work.:D

Wow.
I am really impressed.

When I was being strict, I ate 1700 cal or less, but usually at or almost at 1700.

I feel starving if I eat less than that!!!!

My wt came off slowly, but w/ exercise at that cal level, it did come off...

I am still nursing a 7mo old

I consume 2000 calories a day and am losing 1-2lbs a week. Baby is full on solids now, so I plan to whittle down by 100 cals a month till I'm at 1500 and he's weaned. We will see how that goes!

Calculating my BMR (basal metabolic rate) helped me to know what to consume for calories.

I take in 1100-1200 calories a day.
I work out (cardio) everyday, an hour on the week days and 30 minutes on the weekend.
I've only been at it for less then a week, but I've lost 4 pounds!
I'm also 17, and weight comes off me really easily, especially in the beginning (i know from previous weight loss attempts)

That is an awesome weight loss. Just be sure to eat the most nutritious foods possible. You are still growing and your body needs all the nutrition it can get.

My stats:

Age: 42
Weight: 142
Height: 5'4.5"
Exercise: 5 times/week (usually)
now out with injury
Calories: 1200-1500ish (only seem to lose when at about 1350)
Metabolism Needs: I sleep 8 hours, eat every four hours, and balance food groups

Special note: I recommend for anyone stalled to consider if you get enough rest, eat frequently enough, and gently work to lower stress throughout the day and week.

Thanks! And yeah, I feel so much better now that I'm eating healthier. I could probably eat more fruits and veggies but one step at a time right?! haha:D

Calories, daily: 1550-1650, with one to two days weekly at 1850-2000. I aim to NEVER exceed 2000, and I am hoping that the 1850-2000 range will be my maintenance amount.
Exercise: Yoga, 6 days weekly for a minimum of 30 minutes. Weights or Pilates 2-3 times weekly. Hubs and I were doing a walk-run program 3 days a week for about 25-35 minutes, but that has lapsed as we moved across the darn country. We also do an hour+ "pleasure walk" at minimum once a week. The only thing that dropped in the move was the walk/run, and I am hoping to pick that up again ASAP.
Average Weight Loss: between 1-2 pounds a week. Most weeks, 1-1.5, some weeks none, others just over 2 pounds. I refuse, refuse, refuse to cut back too far in order to maintain, so slower is fine with me. Eventually I am sure I will have to cut back to around 1350-1450, but darnit, I am too big a fan of food and drrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiinking to go lower than that. :D

Calories: 2000 + a little cheating :)
Weight loss (first 3 months = 17 pounds)

Since September I have concentrated on 2000 cals a day. I turn 50 in a week or so, and IMO don't do a lot of exercise - I walk 4 or 5 days a week, 2-1/2 miles a day, and play hockey or run once probably every other week. When I was a lot younger I ran 30 to 70 miles a week so walking is pretty easy to do in comparison.

I lose about 1-1/3 pounds a week average for the last 13 weeks. To be honest, I probably cheat a bit on the cals - but I cheat consistently :) For example, if I eat a salad with dressing I dont count it. Heresy I know, but it works for me. If it's bad for me I count it, if it's really good for me sometimes I cut myself some slack. I figure my calories deficit is about 650 a day.

The best thing about calorie counting to me is that NRG in - NRG out can't be cheated on in the long run. It's taken me a couple of years of trial and error to get to this point and I am now 1/2 way to my ultimate goal. I don't care if it takes me a few MORE years as long as I eventually get there AND that I get there in a way that is consistent and allows me to slip right into maintenance with little problems.

Edit : Ha I lost 9 pounds since the last time I was here ! Yahoo ! - funny thing tho, I remember being pissed at how long it was taking to get under 210, now I am pissed at how long it is taking to get under 200 :) - never changes, no matter how well it is going, I'm impatient for it to go better.

I am 289 pounds, 5"9 and 41 years old.

I exercise 5-6 times per week and burn a minimum of 500 calories (average is 700 and not uncommon to go over 1000) On exercise days i eat 1800 and non exercise days 1600. Im relatively new to calories counting having lost my prior weight via weight watchers so for me its still a lil trial and error

Calories: 2000 for the first 5 months. Now I try not to eat OVER 2000 but my ideal amount is 1500. I usually end up at like 1700 though.. sometimes even 2000.
Average Weight loss First 5 months: 2 lbs a week. Now: .5-1 lb a week.

I dunno. 1800 cals is good for me.. I'd rather lose slow than constantly eat 1200 a day, but that's just me.

current weight is 327 pounds
highest weight was 534 pounds
I am 207 pounds lighter than when I started in 2008

I eat 1700 calories per day unless I lift weights then its bumped to 1940 calories because I add a whey protein shake (110 cals for 8oz 1% milk and 130 cals for 1 scoop whey protein powder) on those days.

I go to the gym 4-6 times per week and do between 40 and 60 mins of cardio per day and lift weights on 3 of those days. On the weight lifting days its 40 minutes cardio generally and non weight lifting days is usually closer to 60 minutes cardio.
