Well I like to start the month with the thought that the holidays don't scare me! :o I am looking forward this year to the challenge of making the Thanksgiving dinner for my immediate and extended family using all ww reciepes. If any have some tried and true please post them, or if you have some ideas that would be great too.

What else are you thinking? I am also concerned about the weather getting colder and making outdoor exercise very limited so finding fun and challenging indoor stuff without spending any money is another hill to climb.

Look forward to all of you jumping in and chating, sounding off, encourging and just plain being fat chicks on a diet

Nancylmrn, I'm looking forward to the holidays this year :carrot: This is amazing progress for me. I'm finding the ability to eat what I enjoy - just NOT in the quantities I used to inhale! :dizzy:

Today was a beauty weather-wise, and I made time to catch up with a friend and circle around a huge lake. Our chatting made the walk so enjoyable (I'm usually alone) that we decided to do another circle around. After a 2-hour walk, we were hungry for dinner and stopped to grab something good and "on plan." To our surprise, we weren't famished.

Like you, I'm also finding natural ways to get daily exercise. Attempts to get to the gym have conflicted with my schedule for years. Finally decided to channel the energy into using what is available around me (great places to walk, motivating workout videos, friends who also enjoy hiking, etc.)

Concerning the cooler weather: Perhaps you would consider walking a few miles around an indoor shopping mall? A few local hiking groups do this; some meet in the early a.m., some after dinner. While shopping malls are not my favorite venue, I'm willing to try to get a workout in on those days when the weather drops to freezing temps.

What am I concerned about?
BEING SICK!
I am sick again for the second time. I was misdiagnosed last week and now have a bigger and worse infection, a super infection the Dr. called it. So, right now I am on new meds...
I was doing so well and then this illness - I feel like I've been hit by a train.
I actually have missed working out and am just worried I won't make any progress..before we move..

Thanksgiving most certainly does scare me :) As does my anniversary which is on the 29th. For some reason I know we are going to do something with some yummy food that weekend. I'm trying to prepare for it now though

Thanksgiving scares me too because I've always used it as an excuse to eat as much as I want. Well...it's still a few weeks away and I'm just going to think about NOW for now. :)

My house is full of kids today... there is no school, and there are 6 extra kids here...my DD and a friend are babysitting here for the neighbors, and I offered to watch a 1 year old, who is snuggling on my lap.

Whoo Hoo Ready2 it sounds like you have a handle on things. I know even though I am not losing weight per say I am not eating like I use to (well except yesterday and today--got some kind of funk going on--pot stickers geez) any way I am really looking forward to making turkey dinner with ww reciepes and see who we do...actually I have tried most of what I am going to fix and it has been hit an miss with the family so I will pick the best of the best.

ASH I am so sorry you are still sick not a great way to start the month but you will recover!

as for both of you Redeemed and Treighsie check out the recipes on the ww recipe thread there are some awesome one to try out on the family and if an anniversary is the problem save those weekly pt and just g for it!

Mind if I join you??
I followed the WW plan 5-6 years ago, did great, lost 60 lbs! Yay me! Unfortunately, I let life take over and started coasting....needless to say it was a big mistake and I have gained back 37lbs. So now it is time to stop coasting and take back the controls!

Right now my focus has to be mostly on cleaning up my eating habits, I have really let things slip. Once the eating starts to get back on track, I will feel more energetic, so for right now, I am doing some moderate exercise a few days a week, that will increase with time.

Nancy~The blisters sound SO painful!
Tracy~I am with you, Thanksgiving intimidates me a little, but I need to focus on the Now right now. And the 1year old, how sweet! I have not had a little one to snuggle with in 9 years~I miss that!

I look forward to sharing this journey with everyone here!

nail! so glad you could join us! btw the blisters are almost gone and I intend to get back to the exercise routine I know and love--my dvd's--until the weather gets nice then I will brave blister land again

Like a bunch of us october and before seemed to do us in don't know why..but I am ready to commit to my exercise and eating healthy "most" of the time. I know there are going to be my ups and down and turkey day well since I am the chef I plan to make ww friendly food but portion control...nah...at least that is my plan right now

has anyone really tried the cauliflower fake mashed potato?? just wondering if that should really jump at the family?

Just found out that my DD wants the BF to fly up for turkey and christmas not crazy about it at all! even though there are separate sleepling quarters in my home. I do have to work but she is over 18 working too and full time student...I do have to have some latitude right???

ok enough of my wineing and I do mean wine

Nancy~Glad to hear the blisters are on the mend! When the feet hurt, it sure makes everything else tough.
On the BF....that's a tough one! My husband & I had a LD relationship in the beginning too (I was 18 also), so I can sympathize with your daughter, but as a parent....this would be tough!

I walked about 2 miles last night, while my son had basketball practice. We are fortunate enough to have a fantastic indoor track (and a gym too) at their school that is open to all in the evenings. I don't often take advantage of it, but figured since I was there for his practice anyway....Then they had their playoff games. This is a youth B-ball clinic, so it has to be done before the school's season really gets under way and last night was the end. :(

The one good thing about cooler temps & Fall (besides the beautiful colors), is that I LOVE soup and many Progresso soups have the points right on them. Even some of the ones that don't, are low in points. I love the Rich & hearty...Slow cooked vegetable beef, like homemade beef stew and only 2pts/serving. YUM!

Well, it's time to start my day, Hope everyone has a great one!

Hi everyone!

I'm not sure what my deal is. I was doing so good for awhile there and now I've lost my motivation yet again. I am soo frustrated with myself It's like I want to lose weight so bad, but that's as far as it goes with me. I think alot of it, for me, has to do with meal planning. I haven't done any real grocery shopping and/or meal planning for awhile. Guess that's the first goal I need to work on! Needless to say, there wont' be a weigh-in for me this week! LOL.

How do you all keep your "mojo'?

What are some of your favorite lunch/dinner menus?

Have a great Friday!

andi654

nancy- I made the cauliflower fake mashed potatoes and my Dh really loved it. He actually requested it not too long ago.

nancylmrn
11-06-2009, 12:04 AM
WOW I so wish we had an indoor track to run! that would just be so perfect for me but I live were I live and rain is part of the great outdoors so running is on hold until the weather gets better....so how does one keep the mojo??? &### if I know I lost mine about 4 weeks ago and still hunting for it and during that time I have gained back 5lbs that took me 3 months to lose.

But on a lighter note some good lunch ideas beyond progresso (which is a life saver) are the steamer veggies from green giant - kinda pricy but I eat an entire bag for a meal. Another fav of mine for lunch the 100 cal tortilla with some deli turkey, lettuce, tom, onion wrap with a touch of mustard and sometimes FF mayo. Of couse my own homemade soups, also try some stir fry veggies with just 1/2 cup brown rice about 3pts tops..I also stir in a bit of oyster sauce to give it some sweetness.

Dinner well that is wide open, usually some kind of protien..1-3 oz of fish, chicken or even pork. with 1/2 baked potato topped with salsa, onion or mustard (yes that is good) I love most all seasonal steamed veggies - if you buy those steamer bags and rinse them out they are perfect and last about 7 or 8 cooking times before the zip loses it's zip.

but my downfall is my wine...several glasses in the eve so I do have to plan for it but without the exercise to counter balance cruddsies I have gained back 5lbs --- what keeps the mojo going when I was so good for almost 6months.....well will have to get back to ya when I figure that part out

Bev

I hope you don't mind that I join your group. I have been on ww on and off for many years. I really need to get back on so I can lose this weight once and for all.

Thanksgiving does concern me because it is all the food that I love that I never eat. I have to remember it is only one day or really one meal. Once that meal is over the holiday is eating is over.

I also have to work on stress eating. I can't get it through my think head that stress or emotional eating only hurts me, it doesn't affect anyone else.

Bev

11-08-2009, 12:16 AM
Welcome aboard Bev, we always welcome anyone who wants or needs to jump on this wagon...

I wish I could relate to emotional eating but I am sure it is just as hard as eating from habit or boredom my downfalls....you know even when I plan activities I still find that idel time and eat, eat, eat or drink wine, eat and eat.

anyway we all have the overeat/underexercise bug lol.

Turkey day ... what to do...my plan since I am the hostess...have 3 or 4 steamed veggies and the tradional potato and gravey...so my plan is put more veggies on plate and only leave a tad space for the mashed/gravy train. Rolls - well??? if I cut one in half and only place it on my plate I should be ok then if I want seconds I eat the other half?? I am ok skippng the desserts but that pre dinner snacking may get me too...

need pre-dinner guilt free snacks---throw out your suggestions

nail-lady
11-09-2009, 12:35 PM
The holidays sure can pose a challenge. For Pre-dinner snacks, I usually have a veggie platter and a little relish tray. I do make a LF dip, but try not to have much of it myself.
I am with you on the Wine Nancy~I don't usually eat horribly, but I don't get enough exercise regularly and I do enjoy some wine now and again and it doesn't help the metabolism any.
Andi654~MoJo...What mojo? I wish I could find it And keep it. I'm fairly certain that mine has crawled under a blanket somewhere. ;) I Know, in my head, that when I workout regularly, I have SO much more energy and Feel SO much better, but Actually doing it is where I come up short. It gets SO frustrating. It's part of the battle.
Off to make my meal plan for this week, take my son to the Dr. and then do the grocery shopping.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Bev

I lose 1.6 lbs this week yaaaa.

My thanksgiving plan--- My family gets together ( all 17 of us) and I am in charge of planning the meal ( but we all cook) so I make sure there are plenty of salads and veggies. I always eat plenty of salad before I touch anything else so I am not as hungry. WHen it comes to pie I only have a small piece. My downfall is stuffing, I just love it.

Bev

11-09-2009, 07:56 PM
Thanks for the suggestions, I do have a veggie platter and LF dip too. But I think this year I am going to ask that none of the family memebers (not as many as 17 just a mere 13) not bring any chips and dip that would help me a great deal.

Ok tonight I am going to work out--yep all of you all fall over it has been a week and look out WATP 5mile going to do it

Hi all! Well, I lost 5 pounds my first week. That's great. But I'm still feeling bad. I kinda stop tracking points by the evening, or I sneak some food thinking I'm fooling (who?) someone. It stinks.
I need some good snacks that are zero points. And some good kid friendly meals that are low in points.
Anyone know a good hot cocoa that is low in points?

nancylmrn
11-11-2009, 06:48 PM
Tracy try swiss miss they have a hot cocoa mix that is only 1 pt but it is a bit pricey. 0 pt snacks I happen to like dill pickles, FF micro popcorn 1pt for a bag. Another tip is to cut up raw vegggies and have them handy for grabing. There is also a 0pt fake peanut butter from walden farms I put it on apple slices

Hey chickies I worked out two nights in a row! just tooting my own horn

ASH0424
11-12-2009, 09:47 AM
nancylmrn: You said throw out snack suggestions. Well one of my favroites are the mini bags of popcorn. I like crunchy stuff and I notice that it really helps me from mindless eating. The ones I like are 100 cal and 2 pts. but I know there are 1 pt. ones. But my toddler and I def. love this. maybe it might help to just have a bag popped as you're cooking and getting things ready so you can just grab a nibble and do what you have to do..just a thought!

nancylmrn
11-12-2009, 11:50 PM
Thanks ASH I do keep FF microwave popcorn at my home and office so I can do the mindless munch LOL it does help. I have been doing better this week as far as nutrition wise goes but it is going to take a few weeks to really get back into the exercise thing....so far three days this week of sweaty movement. But went to Dr. today and according to her scale I am up 5lbs since I saw her last the first of Oct...but then again I knew I had been gaining so now I am back on the wagon---again :o

I wonder if they give out badges for the most times you fall off????

ASH0424
11-15-2009, 08:53 AM
Can I get a badge too? lol.
Ugh I gotta get back to exercise this coming week.

nancylmrn
11-16-2009, 12:03 AM
:wizard: poof our badges...
I am going to set a goal of 4 days next week starting tomorow ASH we can do it and I am not going to beat myself up if that session is only 30 min long instead of 60

How about you?

ASH0424
11-16-2009, 03:38 AM
Nancylmrn: I have a goal of running with my Wii-Fit 30 minutes everyday and from Nov. 15 - Dec. 15, my goal is 120 miles, which boils down to about 4.0 miles a day. Then I have enlisted my husband to go with me to the gym at nights. He has a promotion board coming up for the Army and needs to lost 5-8 lbs. himself - so I figure this will help us all..

nancylmrn
11-16-2009, 11:46 PM
wow ASH 4 miles a day even when I was really working out that was my max took me an hour LOL--you know that old slow and steady. The first time I went 4 miles on the track without stopping I was so proud of myself. I am actually going to bring my running shoes and clothes to work tomorrow and on days it is not raining I will run at lunch....Good thing I have an office to myself.

I am feeling really bloated tonight and my clothes are tight so not sure what is going on...can't be TOM that stuff has been gone for over a year

just hate this feeling. did not work out tonight and tomorrow can't am meeting a friend for dinner after work, I have not seen her in over a year since she lives on the other side of the state. I will make up for it wed, thur, fri and sat

Last week was my birthday and I had a party. Which means this week I have left over birthday cake. And I'm, shall we say, riding the crimson wave this week and all I really want to do is just eat the whole rest of the cake. But I keep reminding myself that I've lost 30 lbs and I did it by NOT eating 1/2 a cake by myself.

Luckily my aunt is on WW, too, and I know she'll be making some WW stuff for Thanksgiving dinner.

hi and Im new to WW diet.I have been a calorie counter for almost 2 yrs and lost 96lbs and gained back 16 of it. I am amazed at what i would eat before knowing the calories but no idea what the point value was.I am very careful spending my points. Last night I had eye of round grilled and was SHOCKED to see it was 8.5pts. Its a real eye opener!
I am a stay at home mom and run an inhome daycare. Im doing thanksgiving dinner for hubbys family and will try and come up with some healthy alternatives.

nancylmrn
11-18-2009, 11:13 AM
Happy Birthday Tudor! and welcome dgramie
It is amazing how many calories/points some meats have. I have pretty much given up on beef for the past 8 years and stick to mostly poultry, fish and shellfish.

Well weigh in today up 1lb these past weeks have been crazy up 1 down 1 up 1 down 1 LOL ah well.

Well I am doing turkey day food and want to try out a new twist or two -- fresh green beans and frozen corn...anyone have some suggestions? Of couse I have to have the traditional mash potato and gravy and stuffing but my thoughts were if I load up on the other veggies and only let myself have a spoon full of the other I can get through the meal without a hugh about of damage

ASH0424
11-18-2009, 12:08 PM
nancylmrn - I was thinking about Thanksgiving myself, now that we've been invited somewhere. I had a test yesterday at bible study with our Thanksgiving luncheon. I did well and stayed on point, but I was thinking about on the actual day a two tablespoon rule. Not sure if that makes sense for everyone..but I was wondering if that'd help me eat less....who knows..I think I will be saving my flex pts. next week just in case, lol.

Luckily we'll won't have our stuff since they movers will come before Christmas, so I am not doing a huge Christmas dinner...otherwise I might cry..why is everything about food...

nancylmrn
11-18-2009, 11:52 PM
ASH I am not familiar per se of the two tablespoon rule but it does make sense to me...would that mean only eat two tablespoons of the 'bad'? for example two tablespoons of mash potatos (which are not bad but...) two tablespoons of gravy which would make sense. LOL wonder how you measure bread???

Anyway the family has given me the 'list' of wants...mash potato's and gravy, some ham, pumkin pie and yeast rolls. Well I can do that but for my own sanity I am adding my turkey, greenbeans and mock cream corn and since I am not a pie eater that is not an issue...my problem it the before and after dinner snacks.

Veggie platter is good even with ff dressing, but there is always that bowl of nuts and chex mix...my downfall's I need to find a tasty to me alternative since I can rack up mega points with those alone

ASH0424
11-19-2009, 02:54 AM
Well Nancylmrn - I was just thinking about if you felt you couldn't count or want to try multiple things you could do 2 tablespoons. I am not sure if it would even work, but it seems like it could.

Also I have a healthy Granola recipe if you want it, maybe you could have that around for yourself so as to avoid the nuts and chex mix....let me know if you would like it..it's good I have had it..

SO, question to anyone - first I know it's bad, but my Wii Fit has you WI daily. I try not to pay attention to it, and I don't count anything, but once a week. But here's the thing, I have been working my tush off, like the most I have in awhile and this morning I was up 1.3 lbs. I WI earlier than normal - Second question, is it possible to be heavier even though I've been OP and workingout..or is that just because I WI earlier today...I am just sad..I thought I'd see a gradual loss over this week...and I think I might cry if I see a gain on Monday after all of my hard work... : (

nancylmrn
11-20-2009, 12:02 AM
Oh ASH don't be discourged I like you had a period from aug to end of oct where I was working it and I mean hard...5-6 days a week 60+min each workout..running or dvd or weights and only lost 3lbs! for three months! Talk about losing faith! so here I am always on this forum for the support knowing I have hit a barrier and can't not seem to get past...yes I gave up hope a few times but never completly and I keep comming back

The odds are in my favor if I just stick with it so you can too don't you give up on me I need the support

ASH0424
11-20-2009, 02:56 AM
nancylmrn - Yeah, it's okay - I just sortta flipped out because I saw it yesterday, but I need to just not worry about it and do what I have been doing...I know that. But thanks for the support, it does mean a lot to me!!

well today I even went for a run durning my lunch of course I looked like #### when I got back to the office but what the heck lol I did this for me. It is too dark in the am before I leave for work and no place safe in the dark when I get home so my only chance is lunch or a dvd when i get home and since my partner in business is ok with it (btw he runs when I do in but lives in a differnt state) it works out ok...so what did I do??? came home this eve ate an entire thin crust veggie pizza with 1/2 the cheese geez I am pathic

ASH0424
11-21-2009, 02:47 AM

nancylmrn
11-21-2009, 04:55 PM
Ok I am on a cooking spurt again...I go through these periods where I want to try new dishes and with turkey day here soon...anyway found this recipe from Jacques Pepin for glazed sausage bits now I have to go get the ingredients and try it out before I serve it on Thursday. but the premise is you use 1/2 C pomegrante juice 1T ketchup and a dash of Tabasco boil until it syrupy--remove the skin skin from 6oz of kielbasa and cut into 1/2 inch slices add to ssauce and gook over high heat until mix reduces almost completely and sausage is coated....now talk about not on ww! but I thought a piece or two could not hurt me ...I have to tell my self this is for the family not me LOL

HI everyone...
Im doing great still. I am soooooo happy that the scales are moving down again.I only have to lose 6 more lbs to be back at my lowest.im back to 90lbs off( weigh in isnt till thursday so its not official yet). I sure wish I had tried WW a long time ago. I was doing great counting calories and then it just stopped.I gained back 16lbs over the course of a few months. I know now its because I was comsuming to much fat per day.I also think maybe my body just needed to adjust to the large amount of weight I had lost to that point.
Im hoping to hit the 100lb mark by the end of the year.
Im cooking thanksgiving and am making a few things for me to eat..I plan on loading up on greenbeans and sweet potatoes(made with splenda). I do plan on having a slice of cake..but just one.
On sat my kids(it their year to be with inlaws)are all coming home and we are doing fingerfoods. that day will be my biggest challenge. I plan on doing a relish tray and using healthy versions of creamcheese and stuff. I truly love the numbers I am seeing on the scales now and am hoping its enough to get me through the holildays without to many cheats.

ASH I have to say it was so-so and not something I will serve...dgramie welcome come on and post all you want ..congrats on the loss so far that is awesome

Well today I was good pt wise even tried a run but the weather was so windy I may as well went climbing rather than run against the wind. Only went 1.75 miles instead of min intended 3 oh well

turkey day is close and still not finialized my menu...poop! lol

Nancylmrn - Seriously I do not want to discuss my weekend. BLAH! I have to go weigh myself, I am late this morning and dreading it. Will let you know when I find out. BLAH..

As for the meal, at least you know now it's not good......didn't sound great to me..but what do I know..haha

nancylmrn
11-23-2009, 11:56 PM
well I have to say ASH congrats on your loss.

I even got and ran today (3.1mil walk/run) during my lunch break--course I looked like dog food when I got back but heck so what.

But by tonight I was so hungry I ate an open faced tuna/egg sandwitch (with FF mayo) broiled it was good the first real egg I have had in almost a year just hope it does not mess me up on Wednesday for weigh in

I am getting excited about turkey day actually my steamed veggis are growing...broccoli, carrot, green bean and aspagus--keeps me out of the taters!

ASH0424
11-24-2009, 04:22 AM
Nancylmrn - it sounds like you have a plan. I am taking my 1 liter water bottle with me and gum. I figure if I start freaking at all the food I can just pop a piece of gum in which usually gives me time to calmly think about what I am doing. I am trying really hard to not just say," Hey it's thanksgiving why count." And I am also saving flex points for that day..

Just ready to be there done that sortta thing already..2 days to go!

dgramie
11-24-2009, 08:24 AM
Im really going to try and stay within my points on thanksgiving.I am cooking so I know what goes into some of my foods.Im doing sweet potatoes with splenda. Im truly thinking of not eating any dessert. I mean why blow all my points on a peice of cake..its just not really worth it.
I am going to have oats for breakfast that morning so that IM not as hungry.I have even debated on a relish tray so I can have something to crunch on while others pig out on bad stuff. I had truly rather save my flex points to use on sat when we have fingerfoods when my kids are home. They will be celebrating thanksgiving with their inlaws this year and im cooking for hubbys family.I am excited about the day.
Have a great day everyone

Well I do know I will have a veggie tray on the table for the before dinner munchies and after dinner snacking

At our family get togethers we tend to play cards and family games for hours so I really am looking forward to it but like you have all said why blow all my points on a piece of cake so my goal is if I have to eat some dessert it will only be a bite, then back to some other busy work to keep my hands busy

ok got to work in the am check in tomorrow

It's been all about one meal for me this last week..that's right, I am pregnant. I got the shock of my life on Nov. 25th we found out I am pregnant after being told by my doctor that it would hard to have any more children since I have the PCOS.

So I go to the Dr. on Monday to get things started. Since I am in Germany I go the the American clinic for refferals to my German OB.

So my plan, to eat as healthy as I can and then still go to the gym, walk the track with my family and be fit this time as I was the first time.

Just thought I would let you all know..

DGramie, what is a "subway tray?"
:?:

Okay, anyone? I am curious. What is a subway tray? Is this food from the Subway sandwich shops? :dizzy:

Thanks!

Im sorry it took me so long to answer. I ordered a platter of foot long sub sandwiches from our local subway restraunt. I thought I was being smart but still overate the other stuff we had.
I have eaten for 4 days and man can I tell it. TOday is back to routine..back to my daycare and my food routine and exercise dvds. My scales really jumped up bad!!

dgramie,

Thanks for the clarification. It was hard for me to imagine there is a food I'm unaware of! :D I certainly know the allure of sandwiches, particularly BREAD. Though I don't advocate the necessity of eliminating food groups, I find whenever I start back on sandwiches (breads and grains), my eating goes on a tear - completely out of control.

Here too, the scale announced the damage of my Thanksgiving carb marathon - up 4 pounds tp 161!
:(

I'm actually looking forward to getting back on track.
