Here it is, girls! The G2009 Thanksgiving Challenge! :turkey:
I apologize, I should have had this up yesterday but I was out and about trying to....get a life!
This challenge runs from today till 11/26. WI dues dates are:
11/5
11/12
11/19
11/26
I know that's cutting it close, so you are more than welcome to post your SW as the weight you were last Thursday, if you wish. :^:
WIs are due to me by 11:59 PM CT on Thursdays! The WIs MUST be PMed to me. If you miss more than two consecutive WIs, I will stop tracking for you, though you can still join in the discussion and such. :)
I hope you all had a great Halloween! Any leftover candy needs to be trashed IMMEDIATELY! :club:
Let's whip through this month and get ready for the New Year!
:welcome:

 girls!
I hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween! I actually braved the RiverWalk with a friend and her son. Managed not to have a panic attack, got to see some pretty cool costumes, and got in over 3 hours of walking! That's a win in my book. ;) Oh and the only treat I had was an outrageously priced mini-cup of cinnamon-chocolate ice cream. :D WI was today and I'm down 2.4 lbs! Yay me!
So my goal for this challenge is 8 lbs. :)

 Hey everyone!!!
I'm BAACCCKKKKK!!!! LOL! Officially, my schedule has ALMOST been cleared. I started back on plan today.
My goal for this challenge is to:
eat 1500 calories per day and treat my calories as a budget rather than an all or nothing type situation.
AND
I would like to lose 8 pounds by the end of this challenge. Thats about 2 pounds a week!
Good luck everyone!
Sparkle - I'm assuming you'll post the deets on the points challenge.....I sure hope to see lots of folks posting in this thread!!!

Hmmm, ill give this a go :D.
I had an awesome Halloween at Knott's Scary Farm with my BFFs. I allowed myself to go over my calories because 1. its a Holiday! and 2. i was walking for almost 5 hours straight. I'm pretty sure that makes up for most of it :D.
My goal is to lose 7 pounds (from what i was last Thursday.)
SO!

Hi everyone. I'm posting the challenge rules now. We will start on Thursday the first weigh in day, and go for 2 weeks! :) Anyone who has posted will be sorted into 2 teams (Pilgrims & Indians). This challenge is not a results challenge- i.e. no points awarded for lbs lost, the goal is to reward for items we control directly.
Points will be awarded as follows:
1 point - posting daily
2 points- on plan food wise
1 point- on plan water wise
1 point/30 mins exercise
5 points-weekly weigh in (on time)
So each day everyone should post, and let me know if they met their daily goals, and Shari (JasonsLea) can PM me a list of everyone that weighs in each week.

Hi ladies, not the best weekend for me, but not terrible either. Close to OP for meals, a little alcohol put me over the top. I stayed mostly out of the candy, just a couple pieces (brought the rest to work this morning and got rid of it all!!) My strength training has been going OP for the past week, so I think I'm ready to add back in a little cardio as well (Esp. since I want the points for the challenge). I guess my goal for this month is 6 lbs. So I'd like to be 203.5.
SW: 209.5
GW: 203.5
Glad to see a couple new faces, and especially glad to see some returning pals. :)

Post Daily on whether or not you've met all your goals for the week. Like this:
Yesterday I ate on plan, got all my water, exercised for 30 mines and had 8 glasses of water. I'll add all the points up and update you all every couple days.
and we start posting for points on Thursday?
Woot! I'm so glad everyone's excited for this. Yes, start Thursday (get your first 5 points by PM-ing your Weigh in to JasonsLea, and then get another point for your post for the day!

I've got the same thing going on. I need to get some gold stars, and I need to be on a team so that I feel like I'm letting my team down if I'm not staying on plan like I ought to.
Hi ladies, I was starved yesterday, so I ended up going over my daily calories by 200. :o but... I'm back on plan today and I've got some exercise scheduled for when I get home. So yay! Glad to see so many posting. Let's keep it up and keep moving.

Sparkle on the challenge do I PM you daily or do you want us to keep up with it and PM it weekly when we weigh in or soemthing?
Well a quick check in.....all of my tests that the Dr. ran came back fine supposedly....I really think I have diabetes I don't care what they say, but that is fine maybe it is just early onset or something. I just need to eat better and exercise...get this fat off and I will feel better!
Hope you are all doing well!
Just passing this along...I had lunch at KFC today....grilled chicken breast, green beans, and corn on the cob (3") was only 280 calories and I'm soooo full....just tell them to leave the biscuit out.... ;)

My update-- (as an example of how to post tomorrow, you don't have to post the red parts)
Yesterday I was on plan 1750 calories [2pts] (under 1800 is goal), 30 minutes of strength training [1pt] , and all 8 glasses of water [1pt]. :) [And 1 pt for posting, for a total of 5 pts per day]
Glad to see all the activity. Don't forget to PM JasonsLea your WI tomorrow.

McKenzie's Momma, that KFC meal sounds great, does it have a name? I'm totally going to try that. Was it expensive?
Yeah it was $7.30 something....but they have $5.00 meals that come with different stuff.....they have a $5.00 meal that comes with breast, one side, a biscuit, and a medium drink. So you can get either a 3" ear of corn (70 calories) or you can get greenbeans (25 calories)....but throw out the biscuit!!!! You could always ask if you could substitute the biscuit for one of the sides.....but an individual side is almost $2.00....which is absolutely rediculous!!!!
Their combos are numbered....the breast combos are usually the #1...but they have a #1 combo in the $5.00 meals (described above) and they have a #1 combo in individual meals (a breast, 2 sides, a biscuit, and NO drink) after you ad the drink it comes to like $7.70 something....so it is a little cheaper to get the 5 dollar one and add an extra side...but not much.
I also like subway sandwiches...but I have a hard time wanting to choose the chips as my side rather than choosing the apple slices (35 calories)....I'm trying to work on that...LOL
If anyone else has any good suggestions for low calorie fast food fare please share

Evie- I would suggest changing your breathing around. Maybe two breaths in, then two out. Maybe it just slows my breathing down a bit (or helps me find a better rhythym) when I run, but I find it almost always stops the stitch.

Come on Indians and Pilgrims, anyone else brave enough to raise your exercise for today by a third?

=) Stayed within my calorie limits of 1200 and I never forget to drink water
Activity: spent 60 min on treadmill (~4.5 miles/jogging+fast walking), 30 min pilates and 60 min hulahoop while watching TV :D
I felt so snackish last night but I know it's not because I'm hungry but I'm craving something so I killed the urge.
I try to drink 4 glasses of water before lunch and drink the rest spread out through the night. I try not to drink too much water 60 min before working out though because I need to pee too much :^:

So it's not that they are super uneven, just that Melissa and HeyHeyGabby didn't do their daily post. I'll PM them and remind them that we've got a challenge going on.
Shari-you've got to post your daily updates too! Your team is counting on you!
Peggy- Don't push yourself too far on the exercise. :) You've got lots of ways to contribute to your team without putting your health at risk. But if you're feeling like doing more, then great!

Incontrol...Evie...even though you're on the other team, I'll tell you my secret.
Starbuck's is my weakness. They have a sugar free/fat free latte that is to die for. 70 calories, I think. it's called Cinnamon Dulce. Costs about $4. The kicker - the HUGE BOTTLE OF SYRUP, they will sell it to you for about $9. it tastes like a Cinnabon, I kid you not. I have it in my coffee at home with a shot of skim milk, tastes like a treat every day. We like to cut an apple and drizzle it on the apple, it's sweet and cinnamony. I'm looking forward to making squash for thanksgiving and serving it with that...
Note, it's a seasonal syrup, so if you like it, stock up.
I like to make smoothies with coffee in my magic bullet. Or smoothies with Crystal Lite. Can't beat a o calorie smoothie. :)
For today...a point for posting, 2 points for being on plan, 1 point for water, and FIVE POINTS FOR 2.5 hours of exercise (2 hours and 10 minutes of strenuous home improvement and also my very first time doing Jillian's 30 day shred, I thought I was going to diiiiiiiiiiiiiie!!!!) 9 points total.
I'm excited to have the DVD of the shred, I can take it with me to go to school. I stay with a friend of mine 2 days a week, and I think I can do a modified shred in my room at her house on my computer (not the jumping stuff, but the crunching and windmills and stuff) so I can keep going...

I have walked all day today, we went to the Biltmore and toured the house, but I'll only count the time I was hiking through the gardens (jeeze, I would have never thought it would be that hilly.) so only 1.5 hrs of exercise :) It was crazy.

Weebles-Jeeze way to go on the points!!! Woot! I'll try to hit the same levels tomorrow. :)
Great job with the posting ladies, and Evies-I feel the same way, when we're all posting and keeping up with each other I feel much more connected and accountable.

Peggy, church for me tomorrow too. I am a seminarian and a student minister and have nearly a 2-hr drive each way.
How do you deal with church dinners and nice church ladies trying to feed you cakes and pies and cookies and stuff? Someone is always trying to send me home with something (my husband is a pastor too, at our home church, so it is double trouble).

Been doing alot of thinking today, trying not to fall into a pocket of deep depression. TOM is basically over and if this morning was any indication, tomorrow's WI will not be pretty. :dz: It's all my fault of course. I lost complete control this week. Tomorrow is a new week, I suppose. :halffull:

NO EXERCISE today. I stayed on my water though, and, I ate tons of homemade pizza. (YUM, but still not good for me) I didn't even want to count. :o
Church tomorrow for me too. Oh, ya'll should pray for me. church days are usually when I binge. NOT good. I need to get back to the REAL diet! Two days off-plan! grrr!

I'm not allowed to go off plan (says me). I think, for a while I might have had a lick of something, or a bite...but now, I don't even care for it.
Well, it's time for a bubble bath and bed. I'm about ready for it to be over TOM too, Shari.
By the way, who is Grace? :)

o.o My name is grace!
lol
I felt sore and tired yesterday but I hauled *** to the gym anyway but took it easy. Spent 30 min walking at 3.8 at different inclines and did 30 min interval training on the elliptical. ~ 60 min at gym
Food I was on point ... 1200 calories... it was so hard though I kept on fantasizing about different foods I wanted to eat.... I really had to fight the urge to make something I'd regret later
Drank lots of green tea and water yesterday =)
I love how I wake up and the cravings are gone. I've realized my worst time is around 7pm - bed time... I'm going to be extra vigilant if I'm out during that time with friends.... who knows what I'll eat in sight O_O
weebleswobble- AW thankyou for that tip lol. I've actually started drinking cafe latte's with skim milk and grown to appreciate the coffee flavor. But if i see that I will definitely try it =D
JasonsLea - It's not final until final weigh-in is my personal motto =P. Just drink lots of fluids today could just be salt retention ! If not, it IS a new week =D
evieistrying09 - Ugh I want to eat pizza -_- ONE Of the cravings from last night.

darnit, Grace, I figured that other 4 pounder was you, eating 1200 calories and working out a bajillion hours. Wow you lost a lot last week, and you are so much thinner than me! I think you will win this week...this was my TOM and I was sick so I haven't been as motivated to work out...
:)
Or, I could just be telling you that so you slack off...

So my update for yesterday - on plan food wise, 1.5 hrs exercise, and tons of water :) I got all the pts woot. 7 pts.
Today was chore and work around the house day after church. I ended up with about an hr of exercise, and tons of stuff done. I was proud of myself. I've been cooking several healthy meals on Sunday nights so that I'll have lunches and dinners for DH and I throughout the week. So this week we've got spaghetti (mine with spag squash instead of noodles), chicken noodle soup (lots of broth, and skin removed), salisbury steak, and tons of vegetables. This has really been helping me avoid fast food dinners during the week. :) Plus after I cook them I pack them into proper serving sizes, so there's no guess work or cheating.
InControl- You're my exercise hero... :) Way to go on sticking out all the time you hit the gym.
Weebles-you've got to play nice ;)

oops, that was nice! :)
We do a lot of work on anti-racism and have always involved our daughter. When my daughter was little, she was assigned a project in kindergarten...to make a decorated teepee. We were kindof annoyed (that kind of craft was about 20 years out of date) but she had some very interesting art - she had drawn a man on the teepee, holding a triangle over his head. when we asked her to tell us about it, she told us that it was a pilgrim. When we asked what the triangle was, she sighed, and said, "don't you know? The pilgrim stole the house of the indigenous people."
Cool kid.
I only get 5 points - one for posting, 2 for eating good, 1 for drinking water, and 1 for doing the 2nd day of the 30 day shred and stumbling around for 10 minutes afterward. Have any of you done it? I think I am going to die....
Now, I'm going to have my berry smoothie and relax for the rest of the night. :) Watching The Librarian with my daughter.

Weebles, we are in a building program so we aren't having dinners right now. We have church in our future dining hall now. We are just starting the new wing. But I go to church in the city, and usually we eat out on Sundays after a long service. I don't worry too much about Sundays, cause it's just too difficult to stick to program that day.
No points for me today, sorry team, I'll get some for us tomorrow.

Hi ladies, just a quick points update:
Pilgrims = 61 pts
Indians=110 pts
and the Point leader is InControl2Day with 44 pts!!
and I know some of you are sad when you post and say that you aren't on plan or aren't getting any points, but remember, you get a point just for checking in each day--even if you aren't plan. The hope is that by checking in you'll keep being reminded and encouraged to get right back on plan.
Yesterdays update-- I was great foodwise :), 1 hr exercise and got all my water in = 6 pts.
Weebles- I tried the Shred. I don't think my fitness level was high enough. I had to pause the video about halfway through and take a breather so that I wouldn't pass out ;) That was 20+ lbs ago. I probably could start it again... but I'm skeered :D .

 hey everyone!
So, I was a back-slidder this weekend. I had a big test last Friday that I don't think I did so well on...but I don't know just yet?!?!?! The started binging Friday due to the stress....and then the binge continued through out the weekend on our trip to Knoxville, TN to watch the TN Vols play. I consumed many high calorie adult beverages...and fried foods...hotdogs...chips...etc.
AHHH....so I'm back on track now dang it! I'm starting to study for my exams/quizzes well in advance to prevent stress binging. I only have 4 weeks of classes left...I'm so ready to get them over with.
Hope you are all doing well!

:)
Speaking of which, I'm off to pack for my 3 day/2 night weekly trip to school which is hard for me because I'm in class or at my internship church site from about 8am to 9pm (and then studying until I face-plant into my book). It's hard for me to stay on plan for anything but water...so, Pilgrims, it's up to you!
Shari, I'm taking New Testament Greek, and I freaked out when I saw your signature, assuming that I should have been able to read it. I have being doing WATP with Leslie Sansone consistently since February of this year, I have already logged 193 miles watp. But I haven't changed my eating habits at all. It hit me yesterday that if I don't do that, I am wasting my time. Why knock myself out on exercise, only to keep eating and not lose anything. So I have decided when I get ready to exercise, I am going to question myself as to whether I am going to do better food wise, instead of "wasting my time." Am I quitting my exercise? No, just trying to motivate myself and focus on the whole picture.

sprklemajik - I hope the rest of the week is better for you. Hope your DH gets better!
JazzyPeggy - Great job exercise wise though! 193 miles is awesome! Keep up the good work. Good luck to you!!!

PAT!!! OMG I missed you SO much! I think you were waiting to come back until i was ready. :) Well girl I'm here now and ready to go!!! I see you're still hovering around the #180 mark.. it's time to push through that! I'm working on getting BACK into Onederland! you've always been a great diet buddy - I'm glad to see you're back! Now we just have to see what the boss :love:Shari:love: says we need to do next. I just figured I'd hang out and bug people until the Christmas challenge that starts on the 27th. My goal is to hit Onederland by New Years - so I'm going to use the next few weeks befor ethe challenge starts to get down more - and then really push through the Christmas challenge to see if I can give myself a ver Happy Christmas present by hitting goal early! It'd be really AWESOME to hit my Pre-:preg: weight by the New Year... but right now I'm taking it slow and steady so that I don't dissappoint myself, and the ultimate goal is to lose EVERY WEEK... If I can do that, then I WILL hit my goal!

I'm having such a problem loading the website and blogs for the past couple of days.. gonnna post an update here
Thursday - 1250 calories, 70 min gym/60 min hula, water+green tea
(I ate 2 pizzas from pizza hut blotting out the oil and cutting off the stuffed crust so 2 triangles.. I had such a guilt trip for the rest of the day I worked out extra hard >.< thankfully did not effect my weight... I drank water like a camel... so scared of sodium)
Friday - A little over 1250 :(
~1325 calories
due to eating out at Chilli's..I barely ate anything still had a problem staying under.. I was so tempted to eat my BF's fries so I ate 3 fries and felt SUCH A GUILT TRIP ~.~
~30 min elliptical, 30 min pilates, 50 min treadmill, 90 min hulahoop
LOTS of water and green tea... so many bathroom trips >.<
I've been eating a few things I've been craving but it's in such a moderation and I calculate the calories before eating it... but I stilll feel such a HUGE guilt and depression when I eat it even though it's within my calorie allowance. I work out extra hard because of this guilt and drink so much water to make up for it. I need to learn to relax but I think I would rather eat my pre-planned and self-made meals and not have to deal with the huge guilt I feel eating outside food... it's disgusting how much calories are in restaurant foods...
To make matters worse, this site is giving me issues on loading so I don't have my normal outlet to let out my steam.
Official weigh-in is Monday (last monday was 173.5) .. I KNOW 2 lbs should make me happy since that's the recommended weight loss but I WANT more >.< we will see :(
I hope everyone else is having a saner and smart week. I'm driving myself and soon my bf crazy with the afternath of eating something bad.

 girls!
Today is a good day. I kind of helped a friend get a much needed job. All I did was tell her about the place and she swears I'm her hero. :o I'm looking to do a transfer. More money and more training. If things keep going this way, all my Texas friends will be working in the same call center as me. Things are looking up, I am hopeful.....:halffull:

Pat I'm here hon! just kinda hovering. I walked 1.5 miles today getting Hunter from school. I ate pretty good today too. I'm going through a little bit of depression right now. :( I know that I'll ge tthrough it - but I'm sleepy all the time - still job hunting - and feeling kinda useless for my family aside form taking care of the baby. Which I love! but it wears on me at the same time.
Just hang w/ me girls!

Did a sneak peek at the scale this morning. I am doing the happy dance. I will weigh in officially Thursday. If I push hard this next week I can reach my goal of 170. I got several compliments at the gym last night that my tummy looks smaller. more yoga and drink more water should help,. I wont loose the 18 pounds by 12-2 I am on my way towards it.
I go Friday for a cortizone shot in my hip. That should help me a lot. All this rainy damp cold isn't helping it. Hopefully it will stop raining some time today so tomorrow will be better. Hope everyone is having a good day. Catch ya all later Pat

I hope everyone is having a good week and getting ready for Thanksgiving! I have been sticking to my calorie counting and doing well with eating clean! I finally started working out this week, which was a huge hurdle I've been trying to overcome. :) It's been difficult to start again, I've lost so much of my fitness by slacking off and it's a little frustrating to be so behind where I was. This morning while the other nurses were eating donuts I was good and had my oatmeal and apple. :)

Dixiemae - Hope you feel beter soon.
twobluebirds24 - Exercise is definitely important but it sounds like you are making really good food decisions. Apparently food/diet contributes 80-90% to weightloss and exercise 10-20%. So what you are consuming smart things is definitely pushing you in the right track.
I went over my calories yesterday ~1600 calories.
Activity: 50 min elliptical, 3 hrs walking/shopping lol, 90 min hulahoop
Fluids: LOTS of water (no green tea :( )
I feel so BLOATED (tmi: I'm really backed up at the moment) I don't know what's wrong. I drink a lot of fluids and getting plenty of fiber. My period should becoming tuesday ish so it explains my HUGE cravings that I'm trying to ignore.

I wanted to apologize for being a horrible challenge leader. :( I've been rather out of it lately, just stuff with work and money. I haven't been sleeping right either. I'm starting my old habit of staying up till 6 am for no good reason. :dz: The only plus side is that my binge eating isn't accompanying the all nighters like usual. The scale is still going down, little by little.
So, what are everyone's plans for Turkey Day?
weebleswobble
11-22-2009, 09:44 PM
Grace, that happened to me the other week, I ended up having to give myself a dose of epsom salts...gross! My TMI revelation is that I have been eating so much less (even with increased fiber) after losing 50 pounds that my 'system' still hasn't gotten used to the decreased amount of work it has to do. I hope some day it will stop slacking off.
We are hosting a COMPLETELY SOUTH BEACH DIET thanksgiving. I might make my son a bowl of real instant mashed potatoes. :)

Hi everyone. Sorry I've missed the last few days. I'm around. My DH lost his job on friday so we're in kind of a spiral. I've not binged so I'll consider that my victory, but with that being said, it sucks this close to the holidays. Be back later on.

:( that really sucks. Everyone in our family used to feel sorry for us (pastor/minister, 'cause we're always broke)...last couple of years, I've been shocked at the comments they've made about our "job security"...which isn't particularly true (I think they forgot we practically got run out of our last church a year ago and had to move from one state to another, but oh well)...
I gained 50 pounds last time that happened, no binging, no binging no binging! put yourself first.

weebleswobble - Thank you Kate. Your 1.6 lbs is awesome! I'm in this thread more for motivation than winning because even a little loss is great :D.

I'm having early thanksgiving tonight. I just finished baking a apple crisp lol that is 324 / serving so I'm going to eat half a serving + 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream :D
I had to use up all my produce because I'm leaving my bf alone for 8 days lol and it's going to rot if I leave it. My bf is not much of a kitchen person. Leftover apples = apple crisp :D. I cut ALL the carrots into carrot sticks for my bf to munch on. I have to wash a bag of grapes and partitition into baggies for my bf to snack on too. <3 him

Grace, do you make sugar free apple crisp? share? :)
Haha It's my first time making the apple crisp so I just followed directions online. I used real butter and brown sugar so not sugar free :P I figured I'll just eat LESS but enjoy it more lol. I don't have artificial sweeteners at home.
3-4 apples (sliced)
3/4 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 T vanilla extract
2/3 cup butter
Preheated oven to 350 F
I mixed the oats, flour, sugar, spices together. Cut cold butter into very little cubes and using a whisk and fork I broke apart the crumble until it was crumbly. Mixed in the vanilla extract.
In a small baking dish, I put a layer of the crumble (approx 1/2) , then I added all the sliced apples, then used the remaining crumble to layer the top.
Bake for 45-50 minutes uncovered :D
I got rid of my apples lol. 8 servings and each ~ 324 calories
I'm eating half a serving with vanilla icecream

hi~~Thanksgiving is day after tomorrow. OIE! I still have tons to do to get ready for it. Then put up the tree. I have been doing ok on eating and exercise. Saturday I raked the yard. I think that rates as exercise. Yesterday I walked my feet off. I now have turkey, punpkin pie, rolls, dressing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. Dont have a clue what to do with cranberry sauce. All I see is calories calories and more calories. Lord help me get through this holiday season!!!!!! Im scared to eat anything just too many calories and carbs. I think we are having dinner with my other daughter at her house.
We have yoga class tonight at the Y. No class Thursday. I put together a yoga outline on paper. I think we are doing that one tomorrow. Thursday is going 2 be so busy wont have time for a yoga session. Friday I think we are going to do it again. Hope every ones plans for Thanksgiving is coming together nicely.
