Is anyone else on the Ideal Protien Diet that can give me some help?

I started this Last Sunday, 10/25/2009, and it's been a tough week, although, I have lost 5 lbs so far.

I am not in love with vegitables, so I have been skipping out on those a bit and by evening, I feel so tired and not very alert, as if I'm just going to drop.:dizzy: Has anyone else been feeling this way?

I really like the protien packets but need help with creativity in the veggie department!

All my friends and family think I'm crazy for doing this diet because I've been complaining of how hungry I am and they don't think it sounds healthy, but I've read so many great reviews. A little support Please!!!!:D

Well I will say not all diets are healthy and I don't know anything about the Ideal Protein diet so I can't say if it is healthy or not. And we all have our own of ideas of what is healthy anyway. I suggest you look in the Ideal Protein thread that I've seen here:

Hi Allie Jack,

I have lost 15 pounds in 3 wks on IP. I look and feel great. Several of my family members are on this diet and have had phenomenal success.

When I feel tired it's usually because I need to drink some water.

Are you drinking 64 ounces of water per day?

As for veggies, here's a couple of tips:

Slice up some cucumbers and sprinkle the recommended sea salt on them.

Steam up some asparagus or broccoli, chop and add them to your packet of soup.

The first week is the hardest! Don't give up. And yes, check out the thread for more support.

I'm really sorry your not feeling well. My mother and I started IP 10/24/09 and as of today I've lost 10lbs and 5 1/2 inches. I have felt wonderful since day 1.

My mother on the other hand felt horrible. No energy, the feeling of starving all the time and actually had heart palputations. So its obvious this diet is not for everyone....

Just a couple suggestions
1-drink plenty of water....at least your 64 oz....more if you can.
2-make sure you taking the recommended supplements that your coach has given you.
3-make sure you getting the recommended sea salt. You can get dehydrated which can cause really bad side effects.

Suggestions for Veggies.:broc:
1-cut up your 2 cups of broccolli crowns and place salt/pepper mrs. Dash and a squirt of olive oil and place them under the broiler. Its amazing...you can season them to take of course. They give you that good crunch we all look for.
2-i do the same steps with zuchinni and green onions.
3-i love cooked spinach...so i buy a bundle clean it and cook it with garlic and salt/pepper just untils its wilted.
4-To eat salad theres a wonderful salad dressing recipe on 1 of the thread that i tried and wow it was wonderful so it will help include your salad in each of lunch and dinner meals.

Hope this helps!!:cheer2:

I am starting the IPD tomorrow. I am excited but kind of scared also. I really do not know what to expect. I am just hoping that I do not get headaches or feel really hungry. I think with any "diet" or sensible eating plan you try, you also have to have a game plan and plan your day ahead of time. I will just try and take it 1 day at a time and not think about the other days.

It will definitely help reading through all of these posts for guidance or any questions I might have.

I feel terrible too, only because it is my 4 day and I have cheated every afternoon. I get the most uncontrollable urge to eat sugar. Have you cheated at all, I do good all morning and at night but need to quit cheating in the afternoon. Will I still lose?

everyone feels different the first week of this diet....The first three days I was a little nauseaus and hungry but got thru it and am doing really great now. Today was officially 1 week for me and I weighed in at the Dr's office....I was down 10.5 pounds!:carrot: I know it will slow down but that was great motivation! I plan to keep at it until I get 58-60 pounds off...I'm hoping that by Christmas, I'm almost there! Stick to it!

I don't think that every diet is for everyone- I would give it another couple days, and then if I didn't feel better, I would consider that maybe that diet isn't for you.

I'm glad I stumbled on this, I've been doing low-carb/high protien for 2 days now, and I've had the constant feeling of starvation and insomnia...last night I was trying to sleep and all I could think of was toast! lol I think I'm losing my mind lol I'm going to finish the week and see how I feel about it then. To curb my toast thoughts at 4am I finally just toasted up some bread and ate half a slice with some peanut butter, felt instantly better lol

This is my 10th day on IP. I felt very hungry until I made it past day 4. I just found this website and I am glad because I have been looking for veggie ideas as well. I found (by mistake) that you can also dehydrate spinach leaves in the mircrowave and they are very good.

Like others have said, make sure you drink the 64oz of water, add a sprinkle or two of sea salt, that may help. also, when you feel the need to snack, make it one of the protein packets... 1/2 a bar or such. Do tell your coach about the problems. I'm not a veggie eater, so that's been tough, usually have to have cheese, subbing the Walden Farms alfredo sauce seems to be working, may not be getting the full 4 cups, but I am getting some! I've lost 10# and 10" in 2 weeks.... and I have cheated here and there!

I guess if I was feeling rotten while trying to eat healthy and nutritionally, I would surely look at what I was doing and wonder if this really was a long term sustainable method of weight loss and maintenance.

To all that have cheated here and there: I don't think an occasional cheat is that bad as long as we only have the one and do not fall completely off the wagon! I cheated terribly in December and still maintained my 25 lb loss but now i am mad at myself because i think of how much ground i have lost, I could have had another 10 lbs or so off!!!! Oh well Feb is going to be much better!!!!!

New to the IP Diet (1week down), but I am doing great. I went for my 1st weigh-in today. I lost 10# and 6 inches (started at 232#. In talking to the coach, it is a requirement to have 4 cups of veggies a day, take the supplements, use the sea salt, and drink the water. I drink at least 80 oz daily in addition to the water mixed with the protien packets and coffee. She said for each cup of coffee drank, drink that much more water. I have followed the plan to the letter and I have not been hungry. Before starting on this, I would get up from the dinner table full and in 10 minutes be in the kitchen looking for something else to eat because I had the munchies. I am thrilled at my success so for.:carrot:

I had no energy for the first week and a half of the IP diet but was not craving sweets which has been a lifelong problem...my coach said if I was hungry to have another packet of IP. I'm 5 weeks and 20lbs lost so I'm very happy with the program. I had a friend in Tampa who did the program first so I knew how successful the program can be.

Like many others on this site who are doing the Ideal Protein diet I use the puddings as shakes and add 12 oz of water. I have had some constipation problem even with 80 oz. of water so I add pysllium husk to the shakes and am taking a probiotic which seems to have helped immensely.

Good luck and give it a chance.

Hi Allie, I have been on IP for over a month. I lost 20 pounds. I find by drinking my water and eating those veggies is key to keeping full and loosing. I am not big on veggies really. The salt & some olive oil can help. Maybe someone has a recipe out there? There was one I did like; someone wrote in "my favorite IP dinner"
1 cup mushrooms
1 cup zucchini
5 oz chicken, chopped into strips or cubes

Marinade:
1/3 or less half olive oil & vinegar
add 1 ts ginger, seasalt, chili pdr, curry & soy sauce.
It did taste like Thai food. Yum!

Detox can make you feel terrible. Hang in there. Better times are coming.

Mainly while all the toxins are coming out, but also after the detox is finished, as you can't just jump back into eating the foods you were eating. You need to start light and work back up to eating heavier harder to digest foods over the course of about 2 weeks.

I suggest that you make the decision that no matter what, you are not going to cheat for 1 day....only 1 day. The first week you are allowed to have an extra protein packet....have it in the afternoon...make it a cocoa drink and throw a shot of sugar free flavored coffee syrup in it. If possible throw ice in it and put it in a blender. It's creamy and thick and helps with sweet craving.

If you get through 1 day without a cheat, the next day you can tell yourself, you can make it again...why? because you made it through the day before. It starts to feel empowering not to give in to cravings...it also gets a little easier. Hang in there. It's worth it.

Allie, I hear ya all the way! The first 3 days for me were the worst! Day 2 I told my husband that I wanted to quit, but I didn't.

I have not been on a weight loss program --- ever --- and trust me, this one works!

I will officially be at Week 10 tomorrow. I have lost a total of 43 pounds and 32-1/2 inches. It's hard for me, at times, to digest it all. I have gone down sizes and am people are noticing and giving me compliments.

You will get used to it. Give it some time.

With respect to the veggies, you can search on this site for recipes and there are a lot of them to help you out. I steam mine mostly and use all the spices that I can. It helps a great deal with the spices, believe me!

Don't give up --- keep going!!!

While I admire your goals, I am not so sure about the methods! I am happy for those of you who have seen successes using the Ideal Protein Diet. However, from what I can tell, you must eat alot of their proprietary food. For an initial weight loss, this may seem easy and ideal. However, I assume everyone wants to lose the weight and keep it off!

You should try a diet - that is not a diet! he! What do I mean? I mean, something where you can lose the initial pounds quickly, but where you are eating normal foods that you can continue eating for the rest of your life.

The idea is not only to drop the weight, but to keep it off. We have all followed the celebrities who claim they have lost a ton of weight - they look great. Then all of a sudden, we see them again, and they are bigger than when they started the diet!

That is yo-yo dieting in front of your eyes! So try to find something that starts with a detox period - this will help you lose the initial pounds fast, it will also get rid of all the bad toxins, and prep your body for lowering calories. Then, the diet should be all about real foods that you can eat for years - don't get caught up in the diets where, if you don't spend a fortune buying their foods, you can't lose weight!

You will also be surprised when you figure out how to eat the right foods - your body will thank you for it. Not only will you lose weight, you will have an abundance of energy!

Losing weight is a lifelong battle - it deserves a lifelong method - that can only come with real food!!

Anyone using this currently. Is there any way to order the items online? It would be very hard to drive two hours each week to pickup meals etc with the schedule I have.
Thanks,

Week is going well , Little headache for my 3rd day no big deal-coach told me to expect that since you go into ketosis. I have a ton of energy and not feeling that hungry. Friend of mine lost 35 lbs in 2 months. I am so excited! For veggies I take zucchini and slice long way, then i marinade with Walden Farms Balsamic and then i season with salt, pepper and garlic powder and then grill. Something different and yummy! would anyone have any good veggie recipes? :carrot:

I'm beginning week 4 of IP, and I must say the first two weeks were hard. Week 1 I did have carb cravings like mad. I didn't cheat because I knew the goal was to get through them and get into Ketosis at which time they would subside. To get through them, my coach encouraged me to have up to 5 packets a day for the first week, which I did (4-5 each day). She also said I could have as many pickles as I wanted. I personally LOVE dill pickles but had avoided them forever since they used to give me terrible reflux. Not on this plan tho... so I bought HUGE jars of pickles and kept a container of them with me at all times so I could snack on them all thru the day when I just wanted to EAT! PLUS they count as some of your veggies -so for me that's a double win.

Week 2 was better as far as cravings, but I got headaches EVERY day, so it was pretty trying. I stuck it out... took Excedrin when I needed it, and reminded myself of all the reasons I was doing this plan. After the end of week 2, things changed dramatically for the better. I now am pretty content with 3 packets and hardly think about food. I've been exposed to several situations where I'm surrounded by the sights & smells of some of my favorite old carb foods and I've been able to get through pretty easily. I have a new found sense of peace and disinterestedness around food which is magical. I actually think I may not ever add back some of the foods I used to crave so badly because I love the freedom I have, and the self-posession I feel now that I've gotten them out of my system and my head.

Veggie tricks: my coach said her clients who have trouble/hate eating all their veggies are allowed to use a product called "Greens First." It's a veggie powder that you mix into water or shakes. One serving (scoop) of Greens First subs for 2c veggies - and she only allows me to sub this for ONE of my 2c serving a day. But that made the veggie thing a lot more manageable for me. You can ask your coach about it. I ordered it on Amazon. It tastes ok - kinda like minty grass (LOL) - but I don't sip it for enjoyment. I mix it into about 10 oz water and pound it to get it overwith. Still preferable to figuring out how many ways I can fix broccoli.

My other veggie trick is: On sundays I dice up the following veggies into containers that I put in the fridge. Celery, zucchini, onion, and lots & lots of mushrooms. In the evenings, I prep my lunch for the next day by sauteeing 2c of these mixed veggies in our allowed oil and lots of sea salt (careful not to let the onion carmelize), pre-prepare a soup package (leek and cr. chicken are my fav), and add the sauteed veggies & soup to a microwavable container. When I nuke the soup the next day, the veggies make it very hearty and flavorful. The chunky, still slightly crunchy veggies make it seem like I'm eating something very substantial which helps my mind as well as my stomach. I really like the soups better doctored like this so I'm willing to eat them pretty much every day. And that takes care of one of my veggies servings.

It's also great to keep those (and other) pre-sliced/diced veggies in containers in the fridge so you can throw together a salad on the fly and don't have to chop veggies every time you are going to have a meal.

Hang in there, don't give up, don't cheat (it totally stalls you out and delays the peace of Ketosis) and remember why you started this diet in the first place. Lie down, pet your dog/cat, walk outside, buy yourself some flowers or a good magazine as a treat, remind yourself that your thoughts about food are just that - thoughts - and they will pass. You can do this!
