Hello everyone,
My name is Jessica. I was DX with PCOS/IR when I was 16. It sucks, but I'm learning how to live around it. I started the Atkins diet almost 2 weeks ago and Im doing pretty good on it. I'm down 8lbs so far! which is amazing for me because I'm used to losing like 6lb a month if I'm lucky. That was when I did low cal diets. I decided to go low carb after buying the book "a patients guide to PCOS". Really explained a lot. So has the atkins book. Anyways I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I usually hang out in the Atkins forum, but I just found this today.:)

Welcome to 3FC Jessica!

If you're IR then yeah, most likely a low carb diet will work for you. I have tried atkins but it never helped me, the maximum I lost was 2 lbs and I was on it for 2 months. I upped my carb intake and lowered my fat intake and now it seems to be working! I guess the key here is learning how much fat vs carb intake can your body handle without switching excess into fat cells. What works for one PCOSer doesn't work for the other.

Keep it up and keep us posted :)
