We are about Fitness and Quality of Life after 50...
We are about Fun and Friendship after 50...
We are the Golden Girls...

There is Value in us
There is Power in us
There is Wisdom in us
And Laughter....
We are a rainbow of unique wonders,
There is love in us.
(poem by Dorothy Holmes)

Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark?
Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you!

Hi! I am back after a long absence. Back attending WW meetings and have a dream of actually reaching goal again before I retire.

Welcome back Carree...I think most of us have taken a sabbatical leave from 3 Fat Chicks, including me. I lose the weight, go back to unacountability for a few months/years only to end up right back here where I know I'll lose again. Just checking in daily works for me but I tend to get lazy and the weight creeps back up.
Congrats for getting back on the program and hope WW's works for you. The meetings are great, I went there for a short time and enjoyed the meeting and the goodies/recipes they hand out. I live out in the country and driving into town on icy roads deterred me from staying on their program.

Carree, I love the puppy in your picture! I ran with Isabella's fitday.com, and that's really helping me to focus. Besides, it's FUN.... I'm so glad I found this site and all of you.

I hope you all have a blessed Sunday,

We didn't have many Trick-or-Tretors last night, maybe 30. And most of those were over 15. One little girl, maybe 15-16 had a baby in her arms, around 8 months maybe, baby in one arm, pillow case in the other. Not sure when kids quit going out, but i'm thinking that is a little old? It was quite cold too, so that might have been why we didn't get any more. We turned the ights off when kids stopped coming and went to my sons house to see the Grands. Kids were still coming there. They had around 220 as closely as we could count by the bags of popcorn they had given out. Afterwards we ordered pizza. Good news, I didn't have ANY candy and only a couple of bites of the pizza. I can't say I was terribly good, I just didn't like it.

Ducky, Welcome. You are so right about the 20-30 year old. They just lose weight so much faster. We have to work a little harder at it. But I would hate to compair my weight loss with theirs!

Z, Still trying to figure out how to hand the "retirement" thing huh? me too, I would LOVE just 1 day when I could do what I wanted without feeling like I needed to explain where and why. Not that he asks, I just feel like I should. But millions of women have gotten through this and we will too. In the mean time, thank God for 2 TV's.

Hi Carree, Welcome back. You must have been before me. I left for awhile too, started gaining back the weight, and here I am again. The support really does help, doesn't it.

Yesterday I decided it is time to pull it together & use this cancer the same way I use my diabetes - to make myself healthier and happier.

OK - so I decide I am going to become a "juicer." I spend time finding articles and book titles online; spend time in the bookstore (and about $75) buying books about eating to cure disease & making healthy juices; spend time finding the best juicing machine value (and about $100); and going from grocery store to grocery store looking for a good variety of organic vegetables and fruit (and about $75).

Then, I spend time reading the directions for how to assemble and use the juicing machine; put it together; find a recipe that matches the vegetables I bought; clean the vegetables; start juicing; clean the mess made by juice going all over my counter because I ignored one of the directions; re-assemble the juicer; clean more vegetables to replace the ones now on my kitchen sponge; start juicing again; drink the juice (about a 1/2 cup from 3 carrots, 2 sticks of celery; 1/2 apple; 1/2 pear; and a beet); and clean up the juicing machine.

All together, I figure I spent about 5 hours and $250 for 1/2 cup of juice!!!

Hmmm - I wonder if it would be better to develop a taste for V-8?

Good Morning, normally I don't post on Sunday mornings other than sign into the challenge. I was running late until DH told me to chill out, he hadn't set the clock back yet. So I have an hour to spare, wonderful.
Lynn... I think you're right about the V-8. Put some tabasco sauce in the V-8, it improves the flavor. You'll start finding lots of recipes for juicing now that you have one. All appliances take some time to adjust to. I've only used my waterless cooking pot once, only because I'm not familiar with recipes using it.
Hmmm - I wonder if it would be better to develop a taste for V-8
I think I'll polish my fingernails now that I have the time. Have a good one.

Good morning, everyone. New month, new start. I ended October in a storm of desserts (read about it in October's Golden Girls). Back on track today. I'm leaving for DS's tomorrow morning. He's having some minor surgery this week and can't lift the baby when DIL is giving music lessons. So I'll be gone for just over 2 weeks from home. I'll have my computer though so I'll still be connected. Gone to wash clothes and pack. See you tomorrow.

Bobbi ~ on the October threads ~ you mentioned ~ sweet and sour cabbage soup. Have you by chance posted a recipe for it on here somewhere? I looked in the recipe section, but didn't find it. If it is on here somewhere, could you direct me to it. If it isn't here ~ could you post it? It sounded really good.

Thanks for your help.

Headed to bed now (worked last night ~ two more to go) I should have gone to bed instead of playing around on here. I'm addicted :o

Hope you all are having a good weekend.

Take care

Good morning! I've decided to change my picture and tracker for November... can't get stuck in the mud! My goal this month is to have SOME movement on the weight. The body seems to be quite contented at this level, but I AM NOT. I'm averaging around 1,200 a day, am drinking more water, and I'm THINKING about exercise (challenge starts the 15th!)... it's SO frustrating!!
Have a lovely weekend. Lynn, your attitude is so good. I'm sending good thoughts upward for you!

I wish someone would tell me why my appetite has increased because of the time change. I have a really rough time with the fall change as well.

LYNN: My DH has cancer, and a homepath recommended juicing. His fave is cucumber, carrott and beet. He lost 25 lbs. juicing, and his color improved.

FREDA: WW is really the only thing that ever worked for me (when I follow it, of course!)

JESS and RETIREDONE: Thought for today: I don't know what will happen to me tomorrow, but at least nothing more can happen to me yesterday.

Carree,

Could you tell me how many cucumbers/carrots/beets your DH puts in & how much juice he gets out?

I am wondering if I got the wrong kind of juicer or if you really put a lot in and get a little out.

NOVEMBER already???????? Good lawd, only 129 weeks, and I'll be able to retire!
Hope everyone had a happy Halloweenie, and kept the goblins (and the treats) at bay. I have been suffering some terrible cravings over these past few days (you are SO not alone, Carree - and incidentally, welcome back! As Bobbi said, a LOT of us have taken "sabbaticals" and are back again.) So, I'm fighting this like crazy, but if I had any chocolate in the house, it would be a losing battle tonight and that's the truth. :(
We're glad you found us, too, Donna :)
Yes, Freda. I may never get used to this. The only solution is for me to retire, too. Then at least my house will be clean again. Grrrr.
Lynn, for $250, I'd expect that juicer of yours to do a whole lot more than make juice. For that price, I'd expect it to do my laundry, too.
I hope you have safe travels, Isabella, and I'm glad you'll still be able to stay in touch :)
Hi Gayle!
Hi Rosey! Better you than me stuck with all that candy! I would've wolfed down a ton of it by now. One tootsie pop, huh? You are my hero!
DH and I actually went for a two mile walk this morning! It was a beautiful day - bright sunshine, cool, crisp air. Came home and made a big vat of chicken and veggie soup and took some over to my daughter's house. Visited with her, my dear son-in-law, my lovely granddaughter, and those little beanie-boy twins. Now I need to get myself off to bed. Five more minutes. Seriously. :)
Have a restful evening, and lets all kick some butt on these healthy eating regimes of ours tomorrow! (Bobbi, I'm going to second Gayle's request for your cabbage soup recipe? Please and thankyou very much :^: )

Hola!
I saw this recipe on dLife. It's a diabetic recipe, no sugar cheesecake, 7 g of carbs, 165 calories, uses either cream or ricotta (blah!) cheese, and it looks REALLY good:

http://www.dlife.com/diabetes/diabetic-recipes/Sugar-Free-Cheesecake/r2874720.html

I was thinking it might be nice for T'giving, and the rest of the group might not know the difference! Yum!

Good Morning Girls!
I've been very naughty this past week, went over my calores a couple of times. I didn't even count how many, made sure I got my fiber in plus exercise. I'm up on the scale two pounds. We don't get tricks or treaters in the country but I did make lots of homemade treats for my grandkids and hubby. I can leave candy alone, baked stuff is a different story. I can't leave the peanut popcorn balls alone nor the chocloate brownies with peanut butter frosting. I took them into my daughters yesterday to get rid of them but they weren't home so I had to bring them back. I'm going to have hubby hide them. :dizzy:
I posted the Sweet & Sour Cabbage soup recipe this morning in the recipe section. That's going to be my only lunch this week, need to get back to OP. (I made a batch of this last week and still have some left.)I also posted a beef and cabbage soup that's the best all time recipe for cabbage soup. Try that one 1st, it's delicious!
I think my one goal on the new challege is going to be calories and staying OP. My doc gave me two exercises I have to do every day for my bad back and that is already a good habit so I won't put that down. My challenge will be a perfect score, haha!
I think I'll go out and put that beef and cabbage soup together today. DH is leaving Friday for deer hunting and it'll be nice to have individual serving of the beef soup frozen and ready so I don't have to think about food.
Have a great day, gosh can you believe November is here already?

P.S. Jess...I read your cheesecake recipe and my mouth started salivating. When anyone tries this recipe, let me know. It would be great for Thanksgiving but don't want to try it until then or I'll eat it. I've learned to try something 1st before sharing it with my family.

Good Morning ladies. Very busy weekend and not so good eating - DH birthday, Halloween, and our 47th anniversary - but, I still managed to lose 1/2 lb.

I'm going to have to look at that sweet and sour cabbaage soup recipe, I have a whole cabbage that I was wondering what to do with it and also the cheesecake recipe. I'm a sucker for cheesecake.

My day to go see DM (every second day) so I'd better get moving.

Have a great day all.

Bobbi, thanks for posting that recipe--I went to save it and I already had it so you must have posted it here quite awhile ago too. Now I really need to try it!

Zoe, a while back you asked if I was snowed in yet---- well, we moved back to MO. in May so I haven't seen any snow and I don't miss it. In the picture I have attached here you can see our new (old) house and Tim, Ginger and Sissy in the door. That huge tree there is a Holly Berry Tree! I have pictures of it and have tried to post it here too but for some reason it won't work. I'll try again before I close this post. It has bunches of red berries on it and I would guess it is at least 40' tall! Yeah, you might say I'm loving living back here. We also have what they call a Crimson Maple in the front yard on the other side of the driveway. And of course the big Black Walnut tree out back! I wish I had the patience and know how to harvest all the black walnuts!!!

Just tried the other picture and it still won't go-- don't understand that. I used the same camera, same settings and even took it on the same day! :?:

Anyway, all is well here-- just trying to get things accomplished and my head straight to continue on this journey. Take care everyone.

Thanks for posting the soup recipes, Bobbi. I'm looking forward to trying them - I'll substitute ground turkey and chicken broth in the second one for the beef since I don't eat red meat anymore. No conservationist, or even nutritional reason for it - I was on the Atkins diet for about ten years after my son was born (he's 28 now...:dizzy: ) and ate so much red meat that I just can't even stomach the thought of eating it anymore. I mean, I ate POUNDS of it at a sitting! Of course eating that way - mostly meat, cheese, eggs and only tiny portions of veggies; no breads or flour products, no sugar EVER (I can hardly believe I did that for 10 years!) certainly worked, weight-wise. I got to where I wanted to be and stayed there for all that time. Then just plain got bored with all those limitations and ate like crazy, which ultimately led to my arrival here! :D (Actually, I LIKE it here ;) )
Anyhoo, I stayed home from work yet again today. I guess you could say I'm experiencing burn-out. Temporary, of course. I'll be heading back to the big city bright and early tomorrow. I went over to my daughter's house yesterday and spent the day with her and the twinnies (she's a social worker, and only went back to work part-time after having the boys, so she doesn't work on Mondays or Wednesdays, and just works half a day on Fridays). Anyway, had a great day.
Good for you, Donna & Lindy Loo; I've taken my weight off at a snail's pace, too. I finally have reached the point where I'm not looking to lose for special occasions, but rather just to eat right and exercise more - and lose slowly but steadily. So far, so good. And Lindy, I cheat occasionally as well, and am far less demanding of myself on weekends - seems like if I stay OP a majority of the time, everything works out okay.
Karen, I'm glad that you've managed to get yourself moved to where you're happiest. No snow yet is a definite plus in my book. Colorado is pretty country, but WAY more snow then I'd want to deal with.
 Hiya, Freda, Isabella, Lynn, Rosey, Gayle...:grouphug:....hope you're all happy, healthy and having a great day!

Good morning, ladies. I am posting from beautiful Indiana this morning. My youngest DD are here for a week to visit oldest DD, SIL, and 4 GK. She is a workout fanatic, so I won't be slacking while I'm on vacation! I had all of four trick or treaters, so I have LOTS of candy leftover. No problem, though. I bought candy that doesn't tempt me, so no worries there.

I am anxious for someone to try that cheesecake recipe! :drool:Heck, we may try it this week. If so, I'll post a review.

I hope you all have a wonderful week. Keep up the exercise, eat right, and drink lots of water so your ticker moves in the right direction!

Good morning, All... yesterday was a total binge day... fajitas (just the meat and vegs, no toppings or tortillas), a small canister of Doritos (ALL of them, YUM), other regular foods throughout the day... when I got onto the hated scale to see how much damage I'd done, I'd gone down! I guess variety IS the spice of life! I keep seeing that the same ol', same ol' is a bad idea, that the body gets bored and quits trying, that variety gets it revving again. Maybe once or twice a month, the "binge" isn't a bad idea!
Karen, how do you get a url for your pictures? I tried to put a picture into a message, and it asked for a url address. I googled for the info and got no satisfaction.
Hope the day is a good one for everyone!

Hi Jess-- I just click on the "Go Advanced" on the bottom of where you post here. Then up by the little"white smiley" there is a paperclip for attachments. I click on that and then there is the option to select from your computer or a URL-- I just select from my computer-- Click on "Browse" After you find the picture you want then click on "Upload". That is all I do. I still don't know why some of the pictures will let you post and others don't. Especially when they are taken with the same camera and settings.. Still working on that.

Donna, that picture was enough to make me (almost) lose my appetite!!! Oh, I HATE it, I HATE it, I HATE it!!!!!!! I just HAVE to get farther south before too much longer...I'm not entirely sure that I'll make it through this winter here in New England. Karen, I am absolutely GREEN with envy at your 72 degree weather. Why is it so much warmer in Missouri than in Colorado? They're both right in the middle of the country between north & south. I don't GET it! Oh, is it the altitudes in CO maybe? (See, once I stop ranting and raving, I can think again!
Back to work tomorrow. Today was peachy. I did some writing, cut out and half-way stitched a pair of soft black woolen gaucho pants for myself - haven't been able to find what I wanted, the length and leg width that I wanted, so I finally gave in and bought the woolen fabric to make them myself. I DID actually see exactly what I wanted on EBay - a little pricey, though - $169.99 - I don't THINK so. My fabric cost me $22. I went and got myself some face lotion & stocked up on more grapes, too...
I've been eating seedless red grapes for days now...I mean, eating a LOT of them. They fill me up, I love how tart and crispy they are, and I know I won't be able to get them too much longer.
I'm trying to figure out a habit to create on the winter challenge. It ought to be walking every morning to one of my Leslie Sansone videos, but I HAD that habit last winter, and managed to break it over the summer. I don't know if I should do the same thing all over again. Plus, I would rather walk like every OTHER morning...but how would I enter that DAILY on the challenge? :dizzy:
Okay.
Have a good night, all -

Hi everyone. I'm tired and sleepy. It's the time change. Baby GS is having some difficulty with it too. He goes to bed at 7 pm and by 6 pm he's almost beside himself. We had quite a screaming fit during bath time which he really loves. DS and DIL have friends staying for a few days and the wife is pregnant. They have an almost 5 year old daughter who was "helping" with the bath. I looked at her and said, "You'll soon have a little baby at your house making all kinds of noise." She looked at me and said, "I've changed my mind and don't want a baby any more and I'm the only one who doesn't want one!" I told her she'd better have her parents send back the one they'd ordered.
Tomorrow we'll be off to the hospital for pre-op arrangements for DS. Actually, I'll be going shopping as the hospitals are closed to casual visitors because of H1N1. DIL doesn't want to go in either because of the baby. He had his vaccination yesterday but we have to wait another week or so. Our province is only doing high risk groups right now. Babies 6 months-59 months; children 5-24 years with chronic diseases, pregnant woman 20 weeks and above. Next week will be adults in the high risk categories. So we healthy folks have to keep that way until it's our turn.

Anyway, have a great tomorrow.

Good Morning Girls!
I'm so happy to see so many gals signed up for the '09-10' Winter challenge (12 so far). With two big holidays (for most of us) around the corner we're all ready. I remember two Christmas's ago that I had to go out and buy a huge red top to wear to a christmas party. I wanted to hid my big fat belly, maybe I should dig out that top and hang it on the refrigerator door.:p
Rosey...I love when hubby goes hunting, I play too. Usually I tackle a big project like painting walls or something. He leaves friday morning and this year I'm not going to do anything. Maybe dig out DD's carrots. They wanted a garden at our house this summer, they planted it and then ignored it all summer. We harvested and brought some of it into town to her house but most of it rotted.dh came home from the cabin soooo i;m catching up today..while the cats away the mice play lol.. Their carrots are still in the ground, no more taking up my garden space next year. I told her to dig up a garden at her house next summer but she didn't want to mess up her pretty yard.:dizzy:
Jess, we had snow a couple of weeks ago, I took pictures of it. I used to be able to post them but I'm having trouble with 3fc's site. I can't copy/paste articles or recipes from other sites anymore? I'll try again. They said I needed Foxfire or is it fire fox? I installed it but then can't print out greeting cards from another site so I took it out. Any of you genius computer nerds know to get around this problem?
Karen...I'm not jealous because I hung out two loads of clothes yesterday, everything dried except for parts of the jeans. It is about 72 degrees
Zoe...I have been know to sew for myself if I can't find what I want. I purchased a darling wool baby blue pill box hat on ebay and couldn't find anything to match it. I purchased some very expensive blue material to make a dress and promply forgot about it. The material sat in the bag for about 3 years, finally I sold the material on my DD rummage sale and just sold the hat on ebay last week. You'd think a retired person like myself could get around to sewing up a simple dress wouldn't you. I'm drawing a blank on gaucho pants, what are they? I'll have to snoop on the internet and see what they are.

Congrats Lynn on breaking into the 40's, I applaud you for that. Especially with your medical problems hanging over your head. Keep us updated on your progress.
Hi Glynne and who did I miss? I need to go out and brown an elk roast for supper, have a good one.
P.S.

Bobbi, I use both Mozilla Firefox AND Internet Explorer. One is good for some; one is good for other stuff. You can bounce back and forth without causing a problem. It just takes some gettin' used to (like ALL this computer ca ca!). I regularly run both of them, with Firefox as my main browser.

Beautiful day today...! I feel GOOD, and I've picked my challenge finally.

Good news,

If the fact that my skin is clearing up [from the cream that the dr. gave me] is an indication that the cancer's progress is being checked (I think it is), I am in VERY good shape.

Of course, it could be the juice ;)

Donna, that up & down mix in your eating is something that I have used with some pretty good success. The difference is that it's a planned up and down momentum that keeps the weight coming off. It's a derivative of Weight Watchers, but I've always used calories rather than points (1 point = roughly 50 calories) but if you're interested in checking it out, just do a Google Search for the "Wendie Plan".
Omigosh, Karen, that holly tree is just beautiful! Sure wish I had one like that. We have this dumb old crabapple tree - very tall for an apple tree - in the front part of our side yard. It produces tons of fruit every year, but its way too bitter-sour to do anything with, and the apples fall all over the ground, the birds have at them for a bit, and then we have to get them all picked up before they rot and make a huge mess. Ack.
Isabella, you must be loving all this time with that sweet little GS, screetchy fit or not. I just absolutely love my little guys to bits. Must say, though, that the bigger and more mobile they become, the more of a handful (make that TWO handsful!) they are!
Bobbi, as you've probably found out, Gauchos are like a split skirt - or very wide-legged pants. I like a pair that falls right around the lower part of my calf, and I usually wear them with a pair of tall leather boots. Yikes! I did an Ebay search, and they were coming up in the mid-$200 range! Good thing I can sew when I need to! I used to sew a lot more when my kiddos were little - made them little coats and dresses and such. Don't even know where I found the time because I sure don't have much now, and the only one I'm raising these days is myself. ;)
Rosey, I'm sure that white stuff is very picturesque - and we'll have plenty of our own before long. I'm afraid I have a REALLY bad attitude toward the winter this year. I'll try to improve my outlook, but it's VERY hard!:o
Hi Ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go!
Have a great day, everybody! (Hi Freda! :) and Gayle and everybody else!)

Good Morning Girls!
No time to chat other then checking into the challenge and a remark about Gaucho's. I've been retired for about 12 years and in that short of time I'd completely forgot about MY GAUCHO'S. Yes, I had a pair that I just about wore out. I guess I didn't know what they were called, I thought they were just called split skirts. (Like Annie Oakley wore) I sold 99% of my huge wardrobe when I retired, the split skirt went too. It was black and I wore black boots with it too. I saw a 'slimmin' black gaucho on ebay, new with tags. $79.99. I put a $9.99 bid on them, soon I'll own another Gaucho. Good thing I kept all my boots! Bobbi, as you've probably found out, Gauchos are like a split skirt - or very wide-legged pants. I like a pair that falls right around the lower part of my calf, and I usually wear them with a pair of tall leather boots. Yikes! Good Morning all,

Had to work yesterday. I start at 7 and I got my first 5 min. break at 2. so by then i was starving and needed coffee, GAD. Last break I got untill 8 that night too. So, I got home and I ATE. I really don't think I went over my calories for the day, at least not much, but I ate it all at night. Not the thing to do, but I didn't have much controle. I have found that I can controle happy times, parties and stuff like that. But it's stress and pain that make me lose it. Last night I had both. Stressed out and my foot was hurting like crazy. Not sure how to get past that, but it's something to work on.

Lynn, Congratulations!!! Sounds like you had a couple of great things happen. Not that it just HAPPENED, you had to work hard for it.

Donna, Just looking at all that snow makes me cold! We will get it i'm sure, we always do, but right now it's sunny outside, leaves still falling and needing raked.

Bobbi, Are you and I the only ones that hang clothes out? Actually, Ijust hang out bed linen and the throws. Things where I want to get the outdoor scent on.

Zo, There is a new eating plan at Curves that stress changing the calories through different stages to keep from plateauing. It seems to work well. I think it's just keeping your body from getting used to one thing.

Karen, Beautiful holly trees. Do you cut them and use it for decoration? I know I sure would. I have 2 little holly bushes out front and I love them in the fall and winter.

Donna, I have to look and see what you chose for your challenge. I have to choose one soon. Still thinking...

Isabella, I know you had fun with the Grands! I always look forward to spending time with mine. How are you going to explain when the little one tells her parents "grandma said I could tell you to send the baby back"?

Rosey, No snow here yet, but we always get lots too, so I know it's coming. I always love that first snowfall. After that, forgetaboutit!

Make it a good day,

Freda

Freda, you and Bobbi aren't the only ones to hang the clothes outside to dry. It brings back a memory of when I was very little and Mom was hanging out teeny little baby clothes in anticipation of the new arrival. That memory is very sweet... I LOVE the smell (and the electrical savings) from outdoor drying! What a lovely day it is today, supposed to be quite warm... Nothing to report. I'm still sleepy!

Good Morning!

Zoe, that Holly Berry Tree is about 40' to 45' tall! In the other picture I posted with the house that is the Holly Berry tree in front! I've never had all these neat trees before--- just pine! We have Oak, Maple, Black Walnut there is one out in the back of the pool Mamosa tree. I know there are some more but I am still learning what they all are. I found a pecan out back too but not sure where that came from! Only one pecan on the ground. That would make me happy to have a pecan tree out there! I love pecans!!

We plan on getting a vegetable garden in this Spring. If we can keep the moles from tearing it up! I love fresh veggies out of the garden.

Guess I'd better get busy -- I've been playing on here most of the morning and I need to get some things done.

Take care and Have a good day!

Wow! I sure am having a tough time keeping up with you gals! I am already so far behind.

Jess: I love that pic of the dog in the yellow slicker! Oh, and I still have a clothesline. In fact, I only got a dryer six years ago. :)

ALL: Don't hate me, but I LOVE to exercise. My fave is Leslie Sanson's "Walk Strong" with weights. But I can tell you, it really is 80% eating and 20% exercise, at least for me.

I knit shawls for cancer patients and just started another one. The color is "Montana Sky" a beautiful varigated blue by Homespun. Keeps me from snacking when I watch TV (okay, sometimes it keeps me from snacking!)

Hello, too late to do personals tonight. DS had his surgery today and I spent half the day waiting for him to get into recovery. We can't visit because of H1N1 but I wanted to wait to make sure everything went all right. DIL stayed home with the baby and it's a good thing she did. We left 7:30 am and I never got back home until 3:00 pm. That would have been so long for Baby if they even let him in the hospital.

I hang clothes.

I remember last year when you went below 150 Lynn. WTG, girl.

Baby is getting used to me. Not as much crying tonight.

Hope to catch you all tomorrow.

Things are looking a little dicey with my daughter. She had the MRI yesterday, and her PC pushed the appt. she had with him at 2:30 today up to 9:00 this morning with an appointment right afterwards at the MS clinic. DH & went over there last night with their suppers, did laundry, and helped with the boys baths. I went this morning again on my way into work - she has no use of her right hand at all, can't diaper the boys or snap them up into their little suits, and she is horribly scared and frustrated. At this point, it will almost be something of a relief to get a diagnosis and have her get started on some medications that will help to alleviate her symptoms. My older daughter, who is 40 this year, was diagnosed with MS two or so years ago, and functions just fine with it - still works as a family counselor in the local school system, and remains symptom-free most of the time just as long as she stays on her medications, Thankfully, both daughters have excellent health coverage, because the medications they prescribe for MS would cost in the ballpark of $20,000 a month. It's unusual for MS to strike two sisters in a family, as there has been no research that would suggest any sort of genetic predisposition. We are feeling pretty devastated, but family always pulls together, and that's what we'll do in this case, as well. We should know a lot more by tonight, after DD has been to her appointments.
Glad your son's surgery went well, Isabella. I guess we just keep on worrying about - and taking care of - our kids forever, eh? And wouldn't have it any other way, of course.
Keep up the good work, Lynn - I'll be doing my bi-weekly weigh-in this weekend, and hope to see a couple more pounds gone. I suspect I will, as worry tends to decrease my appetite, and I haven't felt a lot like eating recently.

Isabella---glad to hear that your soms surgery went well. Hope he has a speedy recovery. Will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Zoe, Please keep us updated on your daughter. I'm also sending good thoughts and prayers your way for you and your family.

Things are going pretty good here. I had family over this past weekend for dinner and it was nice. I've sent out invites to the family for Thanksgiving (I can't believe it is less that 3 weeks away!) My oldest brother said it sounded good to him but I haven't heard from anyone else yet. My Oldest brother used to take his son, and my Dad and go to the Flyinj J truck stop for Thanksgiving dinner!! I guess they put out a really good dinner for Thanksgiving and Christmas. BUT I really would like to have it here if I an get everyone to accept the invites! My younger brother has been sick and I'm sure when he gets to his email he will see the invite and answer. And my younger sister is in St. Louis until tomorrow night. Hopefully it will be a nice family dinner here---if not, Flying J here we come!!

Good Morning, All... Oh, I hope everyone's sicknesses and scary potential diagnoses go well. I am so blessed! My mama's genes are the best, and she passed them on to all of us "kids"...

Nothing to report here. I'm not sure I'm making any progress, because the hated scale is again under lock and key, but I'll drag it out in the next couple of days to see the damage, if any. For the MOST part, I'm being a good girlie.

Hi everyone. Thank you for your kind regards for my son. It's possible he may be discharged a little earlier than we thought so all is going well with him. I had a much quieter day today. Went grocery shopping with DIL and Baby and just lolled around most of the day. DIL doesn't teach on Fridays so she had full charge of her son today. I did babysit for about 45 minutes but other than that it was just playing with the baby. I didn't even watch TV today. Did a bit of typing and surfing. I think I'll crash a bit early tonight as well. Tomorrow is my weigh in and I'm hoping I'll see some results.

Tonight DIL had potato chips opened during supper. I had 6 chips. Only 6!!! How good was I? Hahahaha. I don't think I've even eaten only 6 chips before in my life.

Zoe, I'll pray for your DDs, especially the younger one who hasn't been diagnosed yet. And you're right about children. They'll always be our "little" ones even when they're old and grey and we have one foot in the grave.

Lynn, you're more than welcome to catch up on me. Ha, ha. Maybe even pass me.

Rosey, hope you're feeling much better today.

Lindyloo, I guess getting a house ready to sell gives one a good workout. Hope you're successful with selling it.

Bobbi, have a great "vacation" and eat all the soup you want.

Karen31, sounds like you're going to have a great family Thanksgiving if you can round up your brothers and sister. What's on the menu besides turkey? BTW, those roses must be a hardy bush. I had a few roses on my bush last week but I think they were frozen stiff and just preserved that way.

Jess, did you lose that 12 pounds since September? That's doing really well, you know. I wish my scales would move downward a bit faster too. It's amazing how fast one can put on a few pounds and how long it takes to get them off.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Hi Karen,

Do not know about this one, but I can tell you about the one I got - a JuiceMaster Jr. If you want all the pulp out of your juice - this one is good. It separates out the pulp from the juice & gives you a totally liquid juice.

However, I want one that gives a thicker juice & uses all of the vegetables/fruit. I just ordered the HealthMaster - supposed to do what I want it to. I'll let you know.

Hello everyone,

I will be SO HAPPY when this Fall semester is over. Took on WAY TOO MUCH! The course I am teaching ends tomorrow, but I will have papers to grade, so I probably won't be finished until Friday. The course I am taking ends the first week in December, but we have off the week of Thanksgiving.

End of December, I will have my first cataract surgery & other one at the end of January. Good thing my courses will be done. I will probably have a couple of days where I won't be able to be on the computer.

I have been JUICING/JUICING/JUICING. Getting to LOVE my juices.

Tomorrow, my DF and I are going in to NYC & walking on some kind of elevated walkway. http://walkinghighline.blogspot.com/2008/07/walking-high-line-part-one.html
It is supposed to be a BEAUTIFUL day so we figured we would take advantage of it.

Have a great Monday,

Hi Karen,

I have not yet received my Health Master & am using the JuiceMaster, Jr. I got the JuiceMaster at Kohl's (like a Target) - on sale for about $100. The new one I ordered (Health Master) was about double that. When I receive the new one, I will probably get rid of the Jr. I need to see which I like better.

Yes, as with most machines, I had to get used to it. What I don't like is the amount of pulp I am tossing out. Seems like I'm throwing out all the good stuff. I am doing this for health reasons and I want to get all the nutrients I can. Also, I am guessing that there is a lot more cleaning up with the Jr than with the Health Master. The Health Master has fewer pieces and there shouldn't be all that pulp to deal with.

Hi Lynn, Someone over on the Christian Encouragers thread suggested that you use the pulp to add in to soups, breads and who knows what all to get the extra that you would be missing. I'm still not sure what I'm gong to do yet but thought that I would pass that tip on to you.

Good Morning,

Things are finally slowing down a bit here. It has been a very difficult few days.

I'm not going to even try to reply to all the posts, but thank you every one for the prayers. I do believe that prayers are heard and make a difference.

Zo, I do want to say how sorry I am for your daughters and family. I've seen the results of MS. it can take many courses. Hopefully your daughter will get on mediation soon and do well with it. I know there is no "proven" genetic predisposition to MS but i've seen many cases where another family member had it. And having the supportive family that she has makes all the difference. Prayers for all of you. I believe illness is a family thing. Everyone hurts.

Take care,

Lynn, you're down another one! You'll be a mere shadow of your former self in no time...

Dinner with mom was wonderful. She's still living alone, still quilting, still reading, doing really well. Her sister is going strong at 94, and I'm hoping "granny" continues down the same road. And I actually ate like a "normal" person, didn't heap or pig out. It's one day at a time; actually, it's one MEAL at a time. It was easier to quit smoking!

Hope your day is good, that all news is good...

Good Morning!
Something funny happened last Monday when I put a chunky, ugly as sin, vintage bracelet up for sale on ebay. The sale ends tonight and two people have bid on it. I can't believe anyone would wear it, I found it in MIL jewelry chest when we cleaned out her house. DH just shook his head when he saw it, He thought it was a waste of time and money listing it. Must be some eccentric people out there!

Freda...sorry for your loss and the bad week-end is behind you.
Lynn...I guess I missed something, why are you juicing everything instead of just eating it in the natural state? I know you're taking extra good care in what you eat for medical reasons but I don't know what the benefits of juicing are. You can always put your old juicer on ebay, you'd get most of your money back unless you know someone that would buy it. It's like new, right? When I receive the new one, I will probably get rid of the Jr. I need to see which I like better.

DH is still out deer hunting and I'm still eating cabbage soup. Unfortunately it swells up my tummy and my jeans get tight so I eat a bean-o first. Anyone have that problem with cabbage? On that happy note, I better go dig out DD carrots. I asked her to come over this week-end to get them, she didn't. I asked if the boys could come over, Damian is 18, Lukas 11. Nope! It was 70 degrees yesterday too, perfect for harvesting. I'm mad!

Hi Bobbi,

For health purposes you want everything raw & you want stuff that wouldn't be very good raw (e. g., garlic, ginger, fennel, parsley, oregano). Easiest way to mix it all up is to juice.

About E-Bay - I wouldn't have a clue how to do that. How did you learn? Do you want to be my agent? I'll hire you. PM me.

Lynn...Thanks for the confidence in me, if you lived by me I'd jump at the chance. I lovvvvvve ebaying and it's very easy to do. They do have people on ebay that will sell things for you. Do you have the original box? That's a plus in selling plus any information, cookbooks, etc. that came with the juicer. You would have to pack it up very well for shipping, weigh the box, measure the box, width, length, and how tall. Then take a picture of it and email to me with all the stats. Then when it sold, you'd have to take to USPS and send it priority. By the time you did all that, you might just as well have sold it yourself on ebay. You are so busy but sometime you should just check into it, they tell you exactly what to do. If an ignoramis like me can do it, a college professor like you can do it better. I'd like you to get on the ebay sight and type in juicers and see all the listed items and what they are selling for. You do not have to be a member to do that. It'll give you some idea how much you can get for it. Then try to sell it to friends first, if you can't get what you want, let me know. Maybe we can work something out if you don't have the time to do it yourself. I just don't want anything to go wrong, like maybe the buyer doesn't pay for it. That has happened twice to me, they get turned in and kicked out of Ebay. I'd hate for us not to be friends, that's why I'm hesitating. But I sell stuff all the time on ebay so my chances of selling to a dud is more likely. I just typed in the Jack LaLane juicers and see lots of them listed. Remember all you Golden Girls, you can check out what they sell without being a member. Membership is free too!

Good evening everyone. I'm semi-MIA. Taking care of Baby is getting my bedtime regulated. I'm dropping with sleep by the time 9 o'clock comes and most nights I'm asleep before 10 or 10:30. I'm doing well with my eating and getting in my walks so all is well in that department.

Just a quick run through. Glad everyone is doing well.

So sorry for your losses, Freda. It's never easy when someone we love dies.

Oh, Isabella, I can absolutely identify with being tired from taking care of an infant! In my case, TWO (omigawd) infants, and I can honestly say that I'm glad, now, to have DH home, because I absolutely, positively, could NOT do it without him! When they both screetch and holler at once, you need four - not two - hands to handle them.
The weekend was surreal; my son flew out from L.A. Friday night and got in at 6:55 on Saturday morning. He was getting a sniffle, and started sigging Theraflu down every couple of hours. From there on in, it was a constant round of turns at the hospital, back to DD's house to take care of the twins, do laundry, try to do some cleaning up, try to make some food so that people would eat, and back to the hospital. Then drove DS to the airport in Boston yesterday morning at 5:30, went to work, left work at 2:30, and my car broke down on the Mass Pike. Got towed back to Worcester, DH picked me up at the garage, we went to DD's to get supper for SIL and GD, went up to the hospital and then back to give my little beanie babies their baths.
Heading back there this morning so SIL can drive GD to school, and then he will be going up to the hospital so that he can sit in on DD's session with the ocupational therapist and learn the exercises she's got to do.
STILL no clear diagnosis - waiting on blood test results. Second MRI of back & neck showed no lesions. So we still don't know whether she has a brain tumor or MS. Good news is that they told me on my job that I should feel free to work from home anytime I wanted/needed to.
Lynn, if it IS MS, I definitely want that diet. I've been doing some research about diet to alleviate MS symptoms, but of course since we still don't know, it's a little premature on my part. Wishful thinking, I suppose. I never imagined I'd be HOPING that another daughter had MS, but considering the alternative, that's naturally what we're hoping for.
Well, enough blathering - thanks for your support, all of you. May sound silly, but it really does help when one of you thinks of us and sends along a word or two. Freda, I am so sorry about all of your challenges as of late. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Good Morning Everyone,

I am off to do the final observation of my Student Teacher in Philadelphia. Looking forward to it. She is teaching in a charter school where "respect" is a VERY important value. I have never seen such well-behaved 4th graders.
She is good and it is a pleasure to see her teach.

Check back later,

Good Morning all,

Yesterday was another lovely day! Sunny and bright with a crisp feel in the air. Most of the leaves have fallen. They were so beautiful this year it was sad to see them go. I called the Dr. yesterday because my foot (that was broken) is still hurting so much, to find out if that was normal. It's not. So I have to go today to get a script for an MRI to find out what's wrong. Sounds like it just wasn't totally healed. He said something about electrical stimulation?

Zo, You know our throughts and prayers are with you and the family. In times like this it's so wonderful to have the support, and someone to just do the work! And it is good that your husband is home, so I guess there is a good side of being home too. I'll have to remember that. When our children hurt, we hurt. And there is nothing much worse than not knowing. We're good at dealing with things, but you can't deal with the unknown.

Isabella, Running babies is quite a good exercise, isn't it? You forget how hard it is. I don't remember it being that hard when my son was small. Maybe because I was much younger?

Donna, My Ds and DDIL swear by Craigs list too. It's free and it's in your area, so boxing up and shipping.

Lynn, I so admire your attitude! Taking controle and doing all you can to work with the cards you've been given.

Karen, did you hear from the rest of the family yet, about Thanksgiving. I hope you're able to gather all the family together. That is truly something to give thanks for.

Freda

Greeting fellow Golden Girls!
I just clicked off the Hungry Girl recipes site, yum-O! Today they had a recipe for low calorie yellow cupcakes. If my copy/paste would work on this site I'd post it. But you can check it out yourselves, it has S.F. vanilla pudding and S.F. Cool Whip for the frosting, a can of S.F. sprite in the cake mix. I have a recipie for Pumpkin Pudding I'll share, not too much typing. I've made it twice and it's delish. I personally hate instant pudding, it gets tooooo soupy. I used cooked sugar free pudding.
Pumpkin Pudding
1- 1/2 cups pure canned pumpkin
2 (1oz) packages Jello Sugar Free vanilla instant pudding
2 cups skim milk
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
9 packets of splenda
Mix milk and pudding with a wire whisk. Add spice, and splenda. Mix in pumpkin and divide between 4 small dishes. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Serves 4
Per serving: 129 calories; 1g fat (3.7% calories from fat); 5 g protein; 26g carbs; 3g fiber; 2 mg cholesterol; 635 mg sodium. Exchanges: 0 grain (starch); 1-1/2 vegetable; 1/2 non-fat milk; 0 fat WWP: 2

Good Morning.

Zoe, You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Please be sure to keep us updated and also remember to take care of YOU!!

Isabella, I can remember when my boys were young and they were 2 years apart...... YIKES! I couldn't do it now!!

Freda, so sorry that you are still having pain in your foot. Will also keep you in my prayers.
Yes, I did hear from the family and I should have between 12 and 15 people here for Thanksgiving. My sister may not be able to make it since her son wanted them to go to Branson with them to see the Christmas lights. But they were in St. Louis this past week and her DIL ended up with H1N1 and also the little granddaughter. My sister started feeling bad coming home on Saturday so hope she will be OK.

So far KNOCK ON WOOD we have been able to escape the bugs that are going around. We did get the normal flu shot but they aren't giving the H1N1 out for our group yet. If it becomes available i plan on taking it.

LindyLoo-- Good Luck with selling your house. We have had ours on the market for over 2 years now. Had lots of lookyloos but no one has been able to get financing. And we have dropped the price several times. Hope you move a lot faster than that.

Well, I need to get busy and get somethings done here. Everyone have a good day.

Hi Everyone,

Today is a good paper-grading day - rainy here in the Northeast. Tomorrow is my second Student Teacher observation day.

Thanks Karen, I had no idea Fitday purchased 3 FC's. I'm a fitday user so the sale is fine with me. (Not that I have any say) If a more powerful site/computer is used, great. Maybe my copy/paste will start working. Yesterday on Rachael Ray cooking show, the Hungry Girl gal was on there with some neat recipes. One of them I'm going to post on our own recipe site, wish my copy/paste would work but it doesn't. I'll type it manually. It's for chocolate cake with a can of pumpkin in it, that's all. Check it out.
Lynn...today's a new day, we've all been there, done that.
I posted my total points on the Halloween challenge. I'm looking forward to the new challenge. I'm so happy to see so many people signed up, must be because the holidays are closing in on us and we all want to look good.
Hi everyone else, hope you're having a good start to Wednesday. I broke down and dug out DD's carrots yesterday since it was so beautiful out. DH is bringing them into town today, she is very grateful but said she won't be planting any thing in our garden next year. We second that motion, they just don't take the time to harvest, weed or water.
I'm going to jump over to the recipe section and post that recipe now, don't know if I dare make it. If I eat one piece, I'll eat 2 more.

Good morning everyone. Today was clear and cold but now it's getting cloudy. But it was a great day for the Remembrance Day services at the War Memorials and Cenotaphs. Unfortunately, I didn't get to attend as DS is still laid up for a few more days.

Bobbi, thank you for posting that chocolate cake recipe. I'm not a huge fan of chocolate cake BUT when the calories are so low it makes a great dessert for the weekends. I wonder if it would work with a white or yellow cake mix with a few spices added. Must try that idea out. A little fat free Cool Whip would go well with the cake.

I fell asleep again last night trying to watch The Biggest Loser. I'm sure this season is not too exciting for me to fall asleep every single show! I know I'm tired at night but I often watch TV until 11:30 or 12 some nights.

Baby is sound asleep so I have a few minutes to surf around cyberspace while DIL is giving lessons this afternoon. And now I'm full of cat hair. The cat makes a beeline for the front door when a student comes. I just had to grab him and then he spit at me. But, I can assure Mr. Pussycat that I'm equal to his threats.

Must go and look at a few food sites and eat vicariously. Have a great day.

DIL, Baby and I are going shopping today. I was up bright and early, had my walk, ate breakfast and now I'm supposed to be in the shower. I'll only be a few minutes in there so here I am here instead. :D I'm looking for a pair of winter sneakers or at least something warm and wind and hopefully water resistant. This is a tall order as I've been looking now for some time. Anything that looks like it would fit the bill are too narrow or something is digging in my heal or toe. I have delicate feet and must have the shoe as comfortable as I can get them. So, today I look again. I'd try to get them online but I really, really have to try on any kind of shoe before I buy them and don't want the hassle of returning them by mail. So gals, wish me luck on my shoe safari today.

I shall return. Catch you all later.

Pulled out the hated scale and am down 1.5#, FINALLY.... I had put on a little when I had a meltdown a week or so ago, and it wouldn't MOVE. This gives me the encouragement to move onward and upward.

Hello everyone. So glad the site is up and running again. As many people have stated I was going through withdrawal since yesterday. Hahaha. I lost 2 pounds and couldn't post my results and felt so lost but all is well now.

No snow here today. It was a gloriously sunny day.

Rosey, glad you're up and about again. That pumpkin cheesecake sounds delicious.

Jess, lots of people have lost weight and lots of weight without the aid of diet pills. Just check out the 100 + forum and see that it has and is being done.

I made the chocolate cake that Bobbi posted off of the Hungry Girl site (see the recipe thread up in the sticky area for the recipe) and it was pretty good. Almost like a brownie. DS likes it but DIL thought it wasn't sweet enough (misses the frosting, hahaha). My sister and niece dropped by today and enjoyed it. My sister said she'd serve it with a semi-sweet chocolate frosting...Sigh....she's as thin as a rail. I made it in a tube pan and cut it in 24 pieces which gave about a brownie size piece as a serving. I'd make this again.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Hi Girls, I was blocked Thursday night and just now got on. I tried to check into the challenge many times and couldn't so I gave myself the checking in point anyway. I had two tiny slices of pizza (1 serving)for supper with a large salad, geeeeezzzzz! One serving had 360 calories and 170 calories coming from fat. I could have eaten two servings easily but I stopped so I wouldn't go over my calories range. Good thing I just had pineapple salsa on my salad or my calories would be higher.
Catch ya all on Monday, I'll be gone most of the day tomorrow.

Good Sunday Morning...I've noticed in the last couple of years my balance is getting worse. I wear high heels to church and I can't stand while praying with my eyes closed. (Always hang on to the pew in front of me) I used to think it was my high heels but it's not. Dr Weil had an article about the Yoga tree pose to improve your balance. I've been working on it for the last couple of days and I can't stand in the "Tree Pose" for a minute. Bruce tried it, he could on one foot, not the other. So my 3 month challenge is to work up to 1 minute on both legs throughout the day. I'm going to include that in with my exersises. I'm curious how long each of you can stand on one leg in the yoga pose. Google it if you want to see a picture of it and then please get back to me on how you do. Those of you that still ride a bike should do well. We sold our bikes this past summer because it's too hard to ride on gravel roads and the farmers drive like their pants are on fire our here in the country.
The yoga tree pose improves balance, helps clear the mind and improves focus and clarity. It also strengthens the thighs, calves, ankles and spine. The tree pose also helps stretch the groin, inner thighs, chest and shoulders. It also helps with sciatica and flat feet issues.
Tree Pose

"Yoga is appropriate for just about everyone. For older people, it is a great nonaerobic conditioner.
-- Andrew Weil, M.D.
Step by Step
1. Stand in Tadasana. Shift your weight slightly onto the left foot, keeping the inner foot firm to the floor, and bend your right knee. Reach down with your right hand and clasp your right ankle.
2. Draw your right foot up and place the sole against the inner left thigh; if possible, press the right heel into the inner left groin, toes pointing toward the floor. The center of your pelvis should be directly over the left foot.
3. Rest your hands on the top rim of your pelvis. Make sure the pelvis is in a neutral position, with the top rim parallel to the floor.
4. Lengthen your tailbone toward the floor. Firmly press the right foot sole against the inner thigh and resist with the outer left leg. Press your hands together in Anjali Mudra. Gaze softly at a fixed point in front of you on the floor about 4 or 5 feet away.
5. Stay for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Step back to Tadasana with an exhalation and repeat for the same length of time with the legs reversed.
Benefits
Strengthens thighs, calves, ankles and spine
Stretches the groins and inner thighs, chest and shoulders
Improves sense of balance
Relieves sciatica and reduces flat feet
Contraindications/Cautions - Use caution if you are currently or have experienced any of the following:
Headache
Insomnia
Low blood pressure
High blood pressure: Don't raise arms overhead
Modifications & Props
You can stand with your back braced against a wall if you feel unsteady in this pose.
Variation
Stretch your arms straight up toward the ceiling, parallel to each other, palms facing, or touch the palms together forming an inverted V with the arms.

I guess I've never had any balance in my life because I've always teetered when standing with my eyes closed for prayer in church. I always hang onto the pew in front of me ever since I've been a child. And I can't do the tree pose for more than 20 seconds.

I had a nice walk but I didn't want to go but I'm glad I did. I just got out of the shower and feel good and refreshed. I'm going shopping when the children are ready. DS wants to see if he can walk a bit around the mall with his sore belly. He's supposed to go back to work after this week but we'll see. I'm still looking for walking shoes.

Today I was successful in finding and buying a new pair of wintery walking shoes. Yeah!!! The search has ended. They're actually a sports shoe with no mesh panels with lots of tread in the soles. I also bought some wintery socks to wear in them to keep my feet warmer. They weren't expensive either, about $34 with tax. I'm wearing them around the house tonight to introduce them to my feet. Tomorrow we travel together outside.

For the winter challenge I've finally decided I'm going to try and form the habit of doing upper and lower body strength training on alternate days for upper and lower. I did 50 push-ups off the counter this afternoon but I've got to see what I'll do for the lower body tomorrow. Lot's of stuff online about that, anyway. Shouldn't be too hard to come up with something using very little equipment.

Lynn, who got married? I must have missed that info.

Lynn, who got married? I must have missed that info.

My "kind-of-cousin's" daughter. My mother grew up in an orphanage. Her best friend there was my "Aunt" Mary - not a blood relation, but my FAVORITE "aunt." My FAVORITE "cousin" has always been Paula. Yesterday, Paula's daughter (Keri) got married.

I have been working on a genealogy chart for Keri and her new husband. It is VERY large (22x28). I had it on an easel at the wedding. LOTS of folks from both sides of the family helped me fill in a LOT of family members.

I've been working on the online version most of today.

Lynn, I had a "kind of aunt" growing up. It was my real aunt's best friend. And her daughter was always my "cousin" also.

That genealogy chart must have been quite the attraction at the wedding.

Hello all,

Hope you all have had a good weekend. I am so glad that the site is back up. Was lost not being able to get on here. I don't post every day, but I do check in and read. It is quite something to think and realize how much this place is a part of my life. I joined in Feb of 2000 and have come here every day ~ except for times I was away on vacation or something like that. Wow!

I think what I want to do for the challenge/my habit is to do some kind of physical activity every day. Some days it would be the treadmill, some days the eliptical, some days walking ~ I might not always be able to do some form of what might be considered a traditional exercise ~ and some days (work days) might have only a few minutes to do some kind of thing (my 12 hour days work schedule makes it hard some days to fit in any thing extra ~ sleep, eat and work is about all there is time for). But, I figure ~ as long as get off my rear and move ~ it is better than sitting and doing nothing.

Dr's appointment in the am ~ I am embarassed to go ~ didn't do very well since my last visit (don't think I made a dent in the weight loss). Oh well, have to keep going, keep trying. Eventually I will get it right :dizzy:

Night night

Take care

Lynn...I posted my weight loss on your winner thread but I'm not in the running. I did lose 7.5 pounds but I was down 9 points from a perfect score.

Hi Bobbi,

I lost 4 lbs. Guess we are winners also!

Hello all,

I survived the dr's appointment today. Don't know the results of the blood work yet (fasting blood sugar and HgbA1c) so no medications yet or dr's order to do fingersticks ~ dreading that.

Had kind of a funny thing though ~ first step is getting weighed ~ I was dreading that ~ she had given me 3 months and I hadn't made much progress. Didn't remember what I had weighed last time, so wasn't sure I had even lost any ~ feared I had gone up. The nurse (a new one I had never met) weighed me and was very impressed with my weight loss ~ which suprised me because I hadn't done that well ~ I asked, how much did I lose, she looked at my chart and told me something like 50 pounds ~ she showed me on the chart ~ they had my weight listed as 268 (I have been big, but have never weighed that much). Turns out I had lost only 5 pounds, but I'll take it.

The dr was really nice and encouraging to me ~ reminded me that it didn't get on there over night and so is wasn't going to go away over night. She said better that it went down even if was only a little than to have gone up.

So, I feel better and encouraged to keep working on it. The dr wrote papers for me to be able to go see a nutritionist and a diabetes educator ~ help me sort out all the confusing stuff about carbohydrates and all.

Hope you all are doing well.

Take care

Hello All!!! I just had to share this with everyone tonight!! will be back later tonight or tomorrow.

Observations on Growing Older ---

~It's harder to tell navy from black!

~Everything old is new again, but if you wore it before, you're too old to wear it the 2nd time around!
~Your kids are becoming you...and you don't like them! ..but your grandchildren are perfect!
~Yellow becomes the big color...walls...hair...teeth!

~Going out is good. Coming home is better!
~When people say you look "Great"...they add "for your age"!
~When you needed the discount you paid full price. Now you get discounts on everything...movies, hotels ....flights.

~You forget names...but it's OK because other people forgot they even knew you.

~The last 2 outfits you wore had spots on them.

~You ask your husband or friend how your outfit looks and they tell you the truth!

~The five pounds you wanted to lose is now 15 and you have a better chance of losing your keys than the 15 pounds.

~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything...especially golf.

~Your husband is counting on you to remember things you don't remember.

~The things you cared to do, you don't care to do, but you care that you don't care to do them anymore.
~Your husband sleeps better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring then he does in bed. It's called his "pre-sleep"

~Remember when your mother said "Wear clean underwear in case you GET in an accident"? Now you bring clean underwear in case you HAVE an accident!

~You used to say, "I hope my kids GET married.. Now, " I hope they STAY married!"

~ You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch.
~When GOOGLE, ipod, email, and modem were unheard of and a mouse was something that made you climb on a table.

~You use more 4 letter words..."what?"..."when?" ???

~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere.

~Your husband has a night out with the guys but he's home by 9:00 P.M...next week it will be 8:30 P.M.

~You're 100 pages into a book before you realize you've read it.

~Notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"?

~Most of the people in People Magazine you've never heard of.

~Your concealer doesn't conceal. Your lipstick bleeds. Your mascara clumps and your eyebrows are disappearing.

~You don't have hair under your arms and very little on your legs but your chin needs to be plucked daily!

~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.

~Everybody whispers.

~Now that your husband has retired ...you'd give anything if he'd find a job!

~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet....2 of which you will never wear.

~But old is good in some things...old songs...old movies and best of all OLD FRIENDS

Good Morning all,

I'm so glad our site is up and running right again. Like the rest of you, I depend on this to keep me straight! We had a very busy last few days. Worked Friday, Saturday my DS and DGS had a flag tag football tournament and it was a play untill you loose thing. We were there all day, 8-8. DDIL couldn't go so I had the pleasure of running my 6 year old DGD. Now that will keep you at goal weight! Sunday I worked most of the day on a test we had to take for work. Always a stress. Monday we had the kids and will again today. WHEW!

Z, Prayers for you and your family. She is so lucky to have such a supportive family.

Gayle, looks like you were doing better than you thought! Congratulations on the 5 lb. Your Dr. is right, and it doesn't have to be all at one time. Little things make a big difference.

Karen, had to laugh! It is better coming home than it is going out!

I think that everyone that took part in the challenge is a winner. If you lost weight, got some insight, changed some habits, that makes you a real winner!

I would love to display the "winner" but I don't have a clue. someone want to walk me through it? It's a wonder I ever made it as far as I have!

I like the diabetic sites, because I'm a fool for recipes. This one has lots of low carb ideas for T'giving, which might be of interest:

I had to meet MIL this A.M. for another appointment at Doc's. DH is getting ready for another deer hunting trip, this time he'll be gone awhile. He going to Missouri for the first time, Carroll county. Is that anywhere near you Karen? I'm going to put up Christmas decorations while he's gone. I can put away all DH's treat too so I won't be tempted, not that I would unless it was cheesecake. I can't resist that, yum-0.
Charlie our dog is going to miss hubby big time, he gets brushed out every day. I would do it if I remembered but it's not on my most important things to do list. Time for me to get busy, have a good one.

Hi Freda,

Let me try.
Above the Sticky area, there is a purplish bar. Click on "User CP."

If you want to replace your butterfly with the Award

click on "Edit Avatar" on the left-hand side of the page.
scroll down to the bottom of the page & click the button for "Use Custom Avatar"
In the bar under "Option One," get rid of "http://www." and replace with http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:SEukNlpGixw8JM:http://www.pastrykicks.com/v5/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/winner.jpg
Then, at the bottom of the page, click on "save changes"

The butterfly will now be your award.

If you want the Award down by your weight tracker

instead of clicking on "edit avatar," click on "edit signature"
scroll down to the box that contains the text for your weight tracker
make sure your cursor is after ALL the text & insert http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:SEukNlpGixw8JM:http://www.pastrykicks.com/v5/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/winner.jpg
At the bottom of the page click on "save signature.

G'morning all...this has been one crazy week and it's only Wednesday! My daughter is doing better – feeling more energetic, and is getting some movement back in her hand. She has an occupational therapy session this morning, and an appointment with the neurologist tomorrow. I took a personal day today and DH & I will be staying with the twins while my other daughter drives her to the clinic. This weekend, we'll be out looking to buy a new car for me; I've been taking the commuter rail to work and don't much like it. Takes too long, for one thing, and it really creeps me out at night coming home when you can't see anything outside; can't even really tell whether the train is moving or not...just really weird.
I'm drinking my water. Not being as strict with my eating as I wanted to be this week – on the days that I work, I go to my daughter's house after work to help feed and bathe the boys, and help her with showering as well. Also make them all some supper. By the time I get home, it's too late to do much cooking for us, and we either end up with something I made before and froze (which is okay) or we stop to get a sandwich or something (which isn't okay). On the bright side, I'm getting plenty of exercise lifting and carrying those twins (23 pounds apiece) around, not to mention bending and stretching constantly. I guess you can identify, Isabella?
That was funny, Karen...and too darned many of them rang true. I laughed, Lynn, about the navy blue panty hose – I find myself in stores holding stuff up, peering at it intently, trying to determine whether it's black or blue. Good grief, I didn't know that was an AGE thing! Oh, and Lynn – YES – any info on MS will be very much appreciated. I am certainly learning a lot about it, and it really looks like diet can play a huge role in keeping the symptoms at bay. Gayle, five pounds is five pounds, lady! We all struggle, no doubt about that, but it's about just hanging in there, and I know you're going to do that! ('Cuz we'd miss you here if you didn't!) Omigawd, Bobbi, you're going to be single again for a while! What fun! (Behave yourself, you hear?) Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, Freda, you know how much I appreciate it. Hope your foot is doing better. Are you still working those long shifts on it? Ouch!
Have a great day, everybody! I'll be drinking my water unless I float away first!

Good Morning Girls!
DH is busy packing his hunting stuff, I'm getting excited about a week all to myself. I have a lot of worldly goods I'm going to list on ebay while he's gone. We're gradually selling off some of our treasures, collectibles, prints. I have a really large Les Kouba print I'm going to list, hate parting with it but we have to start somewhere. In a few years we'll be moving into town, it's getting to be so much work out here in the country. (Down sizing will be huge)Another thing, if we were to tragically die in a car accident, Tiffany would put everything on a rummage sale and get pennies for the stuff. No kidding, she wouldn't bother making money on it, just get rid of it. She's not a keeper.
Karen...The name of the town where DH is hunting is Carrollton, it's N.E. of Kansas City. Yes, that would be fun to come with and spend some time getting to know you better. But that would mean taking Charlie with, I'd never leave him with friends or family. He'd miss us as much as we'd miss him. He'd probably run away and try to find us. That audio video you sent me is a hoot, it's soooooo good to start your day with a laugh. I sent it to my friend that lives in B.C. VanCouver Island, she will love it. Thanks.
Lynn...sorry you have to send the addresses by snail mail but I just couldn't open it up. I read all the fruits and vegetables you eat, WOW! I'd be interested in knowing how many grams of fiber you're eating. Do you use FitDay? That appears to be lots of work getting all that in daily. Does juicing them leave you hungry?

Glynne...don't ya hate when our computers don't do what we ask of them?
Jess1...I checked out your diabetic site, I love recipes and trying new things too. I'm not diabetic but the low calorie recipes are great.
Freda...:congrat:Good job, I knew you'd win. You are so on top of your weight when you start gaining. You don't waste any time getting back OP. Good role model!
Zoe...not only are you getting exercise but you get to spend time with those adorable twins and help your DD out. How long will she need help?
[quote][On the bright side, I'm getting plenty of exercise lifting and carrying those twins (23 pounds apiece) around, not to mention bending and stretching constantly./QUOTE]
Time to get busy, I need to pack lunches for DH. He's staying at a lodge where all his meals are provided. He's not one to leave his deer stand and come in for lunch so off I go.
Have a great low calorie day!

Good Morning all,

Just got back from the Doc's, where I got my new, bright blue cast. We had the kids last night and we had a good time deciding what color I should get. Chan voted red, since that would match the green one he got and we could look Christmasy. Kenzie voted for yellow. Glad they didn't have that too. ha! It's much harder to walk and keep your balance in this. I did get a walking shoe so I can get out some.

Bobbi, You lucky thing!!! all that ALONE time! You know that Z and I will be envying you. My son is like your kids. All the things I have will be put in a garage sale and sold for a fraction of what they are worth.

Karen, wouldn't it be fun to meet everyone? maybe soneday...Hey, you using that "woman cave" yet? you know we're going to keep reminding you.

Z, good to hear that your DD is responding to treatment. I know you wouldn't have it any other way, but you must be worn out. But that is what families are for, to be there in times of need. And you get to get close those babies. And I wouldn't worry about exercising. Lifting 23 pounds for a few hours counts, i'm sure.

Donna, I read somewhere that when you lose weight your body tries to regain. It doesn't want to let go, so you get hungrier. When that happens to me I just try to think "another pound gone"!!! Helps me to kind of know why.

Hi Bobbi,

No problem - will mail it tomorrow. Up until now, I don't think any fiber. The fiber was separated & tossed. However, my new juicer arrived today. Supposedly, with this one, I will get out what I put in. I'll let you know.

Preparing the veggies for the juicer, cleaning up, drinking the juice takes away my appetite. Probably using more calories than I am drinking.

I do not use FitDay, I use Diet Power.

I wanted to kiss the scale this morning, 1st time in many weeks that I'm back down in the 120's. (129.5, just barely)
DH ordered an 18 pound free range turkey from our local food coop. It's in so I better get my duds on and go get it. We had a free range last year for Thanksgiving and I can't tell the different from frozen turkeys at the grocery store and a free range but it's a healthier option.

Horrible night! No one told me a cast would be so hard to sleep in and so annoysome!!! I suppose I will get used to it, right? Ron and i had a busy evening. I covered one of the ladies at Curves and DH spent the evening running the kids to dance/boyscouts. I was happy that he had something to do. I just sat in the chair with my foot up, so it was fine.

Donna, YEAH! Isn't it a wonderful feeling to put on something and find that it's too big? You're going to start getting lots of those moments!

Raining here, so going to be in all day. CAn't get the cast wet!!! And someone at work actually said I was lucky to be home. Wonder how they would like to trade places?

Hi Ladies,
I actually had time to post, before midnight. I usually only have enough time to get in my "have to chores" and I then exercise and shower. Today, hubby woke me up, by accident, making too much noise...and here I am.

Freda-Sorry about the leg, hope it heals quickly for you, those casts are not easy to deal with. I once broke my foot, could not do those crutches, so had to crawl around, until I could put some pressure on the leg. At the time had 3 little one, actually I had just handed off my 6month old to my husband forgot something in the house, and when I stepped down onto the porch legs and ankles went in differant directions.

Bobbolink-Yay!! for the scale victory!! I did want to say, quite impressed with your totals for daily fiber. If you don't mind me asking how do you get in so many grams a day? Does sodium play any part in that, what I mean to say is, are all those fiber grams from fruits and veggies, or are they also in processed forms. Good Luck with the stuffing, my kids love the stuffing cooked in the bird, since the three of them would miss the crunchies, that extra toasty brown outer layer that sticks out. I will have to try the crock pot version for just the DH and myself.

ladyinweighting- I do have a yummy pumkin pie recipe that is crustless and one that is with a crust. I will post it.

Hi, I've been outside working all day. Our sweet chickens are gone. In the fall they always molt, lose lots of feathers and they stop laying eggs for 6 weeks. Wellllllllllll...two months went by and no eggs. They were getting very old and it doesn't pay to keep feeding them and keeping the hen house warm all winter if they don't put out. Hubby did the dirty deed before he left for hunting. We both loved those chicken, he said he couldn't eat them. I said NUTS TO THAT!
We've been feeding them and I'm not going to let some coyotes eat them. He said o.k. but I'd have to cut the meat up in small pieces and put it in chow mein or something. He didn't want to look at a leg or breast. I don't know what the difference is, he can shoot a beautiful graceful deer and eat that! So today I took the fence down and pulled out all the post holding up the fence. Gosh, it took me most of the day. I used a jack to lift the post out, got everything done except for the two post and the gate. I'll tackle that tomorrow. Oh the calories I burned!
Institches...I checked out your recipes, can I use regular milk instead of the evaporated milk? I use skim milk in my pumpkin pudding and it would be a lot less calories. On the second recipe you typed in PC syrup. What's that? I've made crust with Fiber One before. You asked how I got so much fiber in? FIBER ONE. I eat a serving for breakfast with a banana or pear and homemade yogurt. One serving has only 60 calories and 14 grams of fiber. I always have a SF pudding after supper with FF Cool Whip, topped with 1/2 serving of Fiber One. It makes the pudding taste like upside down pie. DH even loves pudding with Fiber One on top. I'm a huge fruits and vegetables fan. I love all kinds of veggies and always load my plate up with them. You have to be careful when you eat that much fiber, drink lots of water with it. I've never had problems with all that fiber but Karen from Florida tried adding fiber to her diet and got into trouble with it. I can't remember if she didn't drink enough water or what the problem was.
Lynn...I agree with you, no calorie counting on Thanksgiving. I'm going to change my challenge, I just can't stand on one foot a whole minute. It hurts my ankles and calves. I purchased a stepper and will use that as my challenge. It was just delivered today so I'm not sure how I'll use it. I tried it for a couple of minutes. It took me 4 minutes to do 200 steps. I think I'll work on it daily, record the minutes at the end of the day and keep trying to increase my time.
The Yoga Tree Pose sucks!
Time to eat, take care everyone.

Love It!! so be it, calorie free :D

jess1, love your way of thinking, no calories, away from home!

Bobbolink- when you mentioned skim milk, which honestly I've never tried in my pumkin pie, I had to look at the back of the can of evap. milk- Yikes!! 300 calories for the can. I might just have to try the skim milk, I guess I would need to use alot less, since the skim milk is not as thick as evap. The PC is pancake syrup. I've only made the crustless one the last couple of years, but I was planning on making the crusted pie, instead this year, and of course the full fat recipe, My DD would dis-own me, if there wasn't two pies for her, one to share with family on Thanksgiving and one for her to bring home.

Wow sounds like you had one heck of a day ;)

thank you for the fiber help, and yes lots of extra water, when I do have Fiber One. I have this recipe for haystacks using Fiber One, if anyone would like me to post, just let me know.

Good Saturday Morning!
I have a migraine headache this morning, too much lifting yesterday I think. It's going to be 53 degrees today, might try to hang out one last load of laundry and finish up the fence gate and poles.
I checked my pantry yesterday for fat free evaporated milk and didn't find any, I wasn't going to use it but wanted to see how many calories were in it. If I made this for company I'd put the real thing in but I wanted to try it just for myself using skim milk. I did find two cans of fat free sweetened condensed milk, talk about calories! 2 Tablespoons have 110 calories. Anyway, I googled recipes using it up because both cans expired 2006. I found two yummy sounding recipes, Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Fudge and Chocolate Coconut Balls. I'll make these and freeze for Christmas, talk about fat and cholesteral city. I won't touch them I promise.
Off I go!
Lynn...wish I could join you on your 90 minute walk.
Institches...do you have a shorter name we can call you? Fiber One has recipes on their web site, I think that's where I saw the Haystack recipe. Let us know how they turn out, like are they worth the calories?
Rosey...A deep voice would be sexy, a beard? Ommmmmm, not!
yikes hope i dont get a deep voice and a beard and other unwanted things

Lynn, you make me very tired, just reading about your 90 minute walk.

Piddly, annoying, errand-y things to do today. Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Hello people. I've not had the energy to post the last few days. Baby has me working overtime. I'm used to lounging around about supper time and that's my busy time with him.

Zoe, yes, lifting Baby is as good as a workout. I can't imagine having two of him. You must be beat out tired by the time you hit the bed. So happy to hear your DD is getting some movement back in her arms/hands.

I didn't lose anything this week but I was on plan so I'm ok with the 0 results. Next week is soon enough for another pound. I've lost 14 pounds since September 8 when we started the Halloween Challenge so if I do as good as that in this new Winter Challenge I'll not complain.

Lynn sorry I can't give you a pumpkin pie recipes. All my recipes are home on my computer or in my paper files. But if it's got sugar, full milk/cream, spices and a crust it should be wonderful. :)

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Catch you all later.

Just catching up...I know I,ve been MIA....down 2 pounds so far this fall. Did a 5K walk/run this am and did a respectable 41 minutes. (My DH did 29...he's lost 30 pounds so far this year!)...Off to NC for Thanksgiving with my DD and son-in-law.

Zoe - glad your DD is doing better.

Freda - hope the cast is not too uncomfortable,

Hi to Bobbi, Lynn, Karen, Glynne, Donna, AK Rosie and everyone else. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello everybody,

Sure hope everyone is having a good weekend. It seems like we have been busy all week but haven't got much done. Guess it is some of that stuff that you do that doesn't show!

My sister called me this afternoon. Her son and his family are moving back in with them for awhile. Probably until the Spring anyway. They have one little girl about 3 year and another on the way. He has been accepted at MSSU and wants to get his teaching degree. Anyway, the reason she called is she is making room for them and wanted to know if I wanted her treadmill and incumbent bike... I have a treadmill but hers is much nicer and I've been watching for a incumbent bike for some time. So they brought those over this evening. I told her I would just keep them here for her now and when things get back to normal and she wants them back she can have them. BUT in the meantime since I now will have 2 treadmills in my "woman cave" she could come over and we could workout together. I imagine after having the house to themselves for awhile there will be times that she may want to just get away for awhile... I've been there too.

I haven't started Christmas yet---but will after Thanksgiving is over. Although I did buy the new tree--just haven't put it up yet. I'm getting anxious though.

I'm sure next week will be busy for all of us. Last week we went to the VA hospital in Fayetville, Arkansas for Tim to be checked out. He has adhesive capsulitis in both shoulders (frozen shoulders) They are going to start out with physical therapy and see if that helps before trying anything else. Now he has to wait for an appointment to go back down there. Monday he has to go to the VA hospital in Mt. Vernon for more lab tests. Tuesday he goes in for his colonoscopy here in town. Wednesday will be a busy day cooking for Thursday.
So once this week is done I have made a promise to myself that I am going to take one hour everyday for ME and spend it in my Woman cave! It seems like I can find time to do everything but that so I'm just going to do it!! My goodness I have so much stuff down there now that I could almost open up my own gym!!!

I hope everyone has a good rest of the weekend. Take care of yourselves!!

Hi Everyone,

It's time to revise my Winter Challenge goal. I have gained 3 lbs since I began. I think that the additional good carbs is triggering me to eat bad carbs. Instead of just piling up on the fruit and veggies during the day, I am going to try replacing one meal/day with the fruit and veggies.

This is a BAD week to be up 3 lbs. I am going to do my best to lose what I can before Thursday. Even though the food has no calories on holidays, I somehow always seem to gain weight the day after :?::?::?:

Good Sunday Morning!
I'm skipping church today, still have a migraine headache. I have a couple of comments.
Institches, do you have a shorter name? Did you try the skim milk yet in the pumpkin recipe?
Karen...why don't you get all your friends/family to come in a couple days a week to exercise with you. You could have a tape playing, when the upbeat song ends, everyone get off their machines and switch. Just like they do at curves, I loved going there but it got to be too many miles traveling every day.
My goodness I have so much stuff down there now that I could almost open up my own gym!!!

Jess...I loved the clip on the pumpkin pie, really cute! I wish it was that easy, It made me very hungry. Congrats on the two pound loss!:carrot:
Isabella...You've done a fantastic job losing, we're all so very proud of you.
I've lost 14 pounds since September 8 when we started the Halloween Challenge so if I do as good as that in this new Winter Challenge I'll not complain.

Lynard...don't ya just hate how men lose quicker than women? But they don't carry and keep fat like woman do, we're fluffy!
Just catching up...I know I,ve been MIA....down 2 pounds so far this fall. Did a 5K walk/run this am and did a respectable 41 minutes. (My DH did 29...he's lost 30 pounds so far this year!)...

Lynn...:hug:Sorry to hear of your gain, how frustrating. I had to revise my Winter challenge goal too. The stepper is boring but then I find all exercising equipment boring.

Bobbi,

I am thinking about trying to match your stepping. I have a couple of questions. Are you doing all your steps at the same time or spreading them out over several sessions?

Are you using some kind of a counter, or are you actually counting each step? Are you stepping with a video or just on your own?

Good Morning all,

Hope you all have a blessed Sunday. I wish I could say i'm getting used to this cast, but i'm not. I hear where you're coming from Lynn, if I had a saw i would have cut this thing off like you did. I'm calling the Dr. Monday and see if he can change it. One bad thing with it too. I can't weigh in, or even use my regular clothes to tell if I'm gaining or losing.

Lynn, Sorry to hear about the weight gain. I know that's the last thing we want to see, but sometimes we have to find out what works and what doesn't. I know you will make the needed changes.

Bobbi, Sorry to hear about you Chickies. First thing we learned on the farm, you don't get attached. Animals are food. It was hard at times though. Are you getting more in the spring? Hope your headache is better. I used to get migraines too, horrible things.

Karen, No excuses girl. That "woman cave" is too well stocked not to take advantage. You have to get into the habbit of exercising. Pick a time and just go. After awhile you will just know that it's (2 oclock, time to exercise). if you can get your sister to exercise with you it makes it so much more enjoyable, but you really can't depend on someone else.

Hi Lyn, good to see you again. And it is so unfair how men lose so much quicker than we do!

Isabella, I totally agree, running after babies is so exercise! And you're right not to get upset about not losing every week. We just have to do what we need to do and our body will follow in it's own time. I know at one point I was truly thinking about taking Alli because I thought the needle on the scale would never move. But I didn't., and it did.

Donna, Congratulations on the 2 lb. Way to go girl!!

Everyone, make it a good day

Freda

Pain-Safe Foods
Pain-safe foods virtually never contribute to headaches or other painful conditions. These include:
 Rice, especially brown rice
 Cooked green vegetables, such as broccoli, spinach, Swiss chard, or collards
 Cooked orange vegetables, such as carrots or sweet potatoes
 Cooked yellow vegetables, such as summer squash
 Cooked or dried non-citrus fruits: cherries, cranberries, pears, prunes (but not citrus fruits, apples, bananas, peaches, or tomatoes)
 Water: Plain water or carbonated forms, such as Perrier, are fine. Other beverages—even herbal teas—can be triggers.
 Condiments: Modest amounts of salt, maple syrup, and vanilla extract are usually well-tolerated.

Common Triggers
Common triggers often cause headaches in susceptible people. Just as some food sensitivities manifest as a rash on your skin, migraine sufferers have a reaction in the blood vessels and nerves. Here are the common food triggers, also known as the "Dirty Dozen," in order of importance:
 dairy products*
 chocolate
 eggs
 citrus fruits
 meat**
 wheat (bread, pasta, etc.)
 nuts and peanuts
 tomatoes
 onions
 corn
 apples
 bananas

* Includes skim or whole cow’s milk, goat’s milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.
** Includes beef, pork, chicken, turkey, fish, etc.
Certain beverages and additives are also among the worst triggers, including alcoholic beverages (especially red wine), caffeinated drinks (coffee, tea, and colas), monosodium glutamate, aspartame (NutraSweet), and nitrites.

A quick reply to Lynn....I'll yak more tomorrow. Amazing Race is about to start.
I purchased an inexpensive stepper but it works fantastic. It scans my steps, my time, calories burned, how many steps per something? Can't remember. I have it out in our breezeway looking out the window at all our bird feeders and bird baths. I love watching them! No music and I do 100 steps at a time. Today I went out 3 times and all three times I did 100 steps. It doesn't take long, maybe 1.5 to 2 minutes each time. My knees aren't very good and I don't dare do anymore then that plus I don't have the patience. Gradually I'll try to get out there more than 3 sessions. Guess it depends on my knees and how much time I have. I would love to match steps with you. If you get more sessions in then I do, I'll try to match you the next day.

OK - I did 3 x 100 today. Mine is not so fancy as yours - I need to count. I actually have a step DVD - will have to look for it.

Good easy way to get in some extra exercise.

Should we keep track here or on the Challenge thread?

Lynn...Challenge thread sounds good to me, I'm already keeping track there. I dumped the Yogi Tree Pose, I can't do it. I do two floor exercises for my back every morning and also exercise my arms with bands while downloading stuff on my computer. So I do get in more exercise than just the stepper. One thing I like about the stepper is my heart rate gets up there, my other exercises don't do that.
I better go add my steps and go to bed, I'm tired tonight.

Good morning, all - I actually typed out a post at 5:30 this morning, but it flew off into the ether when I hit "submit". I'm wondering if this has been happening with greater frequency lately? I tried posting a few days back and the same thing happened. And it seems to me that several of us have had trouble, on and off, with losing posts. (I hope I don't lose THIS one!)
My good eating habits are suffering lately just through the lack of time to prepare ahead. I don't appear to have gained any weight back, as my clothes are fitting me the same, but I suspect I haven't lost any either. I go for long periods of time without eating anything because I'm too busy with my little twinnies, or running downstairs to put in (or take out) a load of laundry, or running errands, or what have you. THEN, by the end of the day - usually @ 10:00 at night, in fact, I'm ravenous and looking to eat anything I can find, and lots of it. Woe is me. But, my daughter is improving little by little, and as the saying goes, "This too shall pass." Yesterday DH and I went over and cooked a big breakfast for them, and then I took my daughter to do some shopping - then back to feed and bathe the boys, do a few loads of wash, and get them all some supper. Home at 9:30 with applesauce to make to include in the Thanksgiving "goody box" that DH is overnight mailing to my son in L.A. this morning. In bed at midnight and up again at 5:00. Whew.
But NONE of this compares to what Bobbi just does naturally, all the time. Bobbi, whatever is your secret to staying so active and so involved in really strenuous activity all the time?
I have to run, but am thinking of you all - have read all the posts, and am happy to see all the progress you're making. And for those who continue to struggle, oh YEAH. I know. Trust me.
Talk soon,
:grouphug:

Good Morning!
I'm still enjoying my time alone, I LOVE IT!
I'm planning to put up my Christmas decorations today, yes it's early but I don't get to have Christmas here. Our DD has Christmas at her place and nobody gets to see how beautiful I decorate the house. I get daily recipes from allrecipes.com and today they posted a 4 star recipes for turkey gravy. It's fat free so I think I'll try it. (Boxed Swansons Chicken Broth) My mom always made gravy with the turkey juices and drippings. I have in the past, I think it makes the best gravy but it's sooooooo fattening. When we've eaten a couple meals of turkey, I take the skin, fat, juices and all the bones and make soup stock with it. After refrigerating over night, you can literally pick the layer of fat off the top for fat free broth. Then I make a big batch of turkey soup with it and any leftover turkey meat. We can eat forever on that! I'll post the recipe later in the recipe section.
Zoe...You're doing the same thing, all the running, babysitting, cooking, etc. I don't think we're so old yet that we need to recline in a rocking chair.
Bobbi, whatever is your secret to staying so active and so involved in really strenuous activity all the time?

If I had to point to one reason for my restlessness and hyperactivity, it's Attention Deficit Disorder. Way back in the olden days, (haha) they didn't know why I couldn't sit still. I still can't still still but I'm very focused now and maybe have grown out of the worst of it, failure to pay attention, etc. I'm terribly organized but that might be because I'm married to a neat freak! Zoe...I cheated when I pulled out all those fence posts, I hooked a jack up to the post and they came out lickedy-split!
Lynn...thanks for the list, I knew the dirty dozen and I indudge freely in all but one, corn. I eat corn on the cob once in awhile during the summer months but watch it, too many calories. Thankfully I don't get migraines that much anymore. The dirty dozen list is everything lovely to eat
Jess...Amen! A really good point too, get back OP on Friday!

Freda...No more outside critters for us. The chickens were a hobby for DH after he retired. He's going to appreciate not going out in the zero below weather to feed them. It always a challenge to get through all the heavy snowbanks to reach them too. We had Home Depot build it and an electrician come out and wire it so we could plug in a heat lamp. DH cleaned it out, the floor tile comes up so he can sanitize them in the spring. He's going to turn it into his man cave, put all his tools, etc. out there. It's going to be a perfect place for him and his stuff plus it has electricity for his power tools.Sorry to hear about you Chickies. First thing we learned on the farm, you don't get attached. Hello everyone.

Very funny Karen. :D It's illegal here to use a cell phone while driving but we see it all the time.

I went for a loooonnnnggg walk today. Actually, it was my regular walk but I stopped off at the little mall here where DS lives and strolled around in there doing a bit of browsing. I did buy a few stocking stuffers for DH at the Dollarama and had to walk the last half hour with two bags hanging off my arms. It's amazing how heavy a bag can get in half an hour. I just put it all down to more exercise. Hahaha.

DS went back to work today for the first time since his surgery. I'm guessing he's going to be mighty tired by this afternoon. He still can't lift the Baby but he figured he'd be sitting most of the day at work typing and doing some ordering for the school.

It's a lovely sunny but chilly day here. It's amazing how warm I get walking when the sun is shinning. I'm constantly pulling my hood down to cool off.

Have a great day everyone.

Hi everyone,

Well Lynn, I followed your bad example. Althought I didn't take my cast of by myself (I would have, believe me) I went to ER last night and got it cut off. it was cutting my circulation off. So'm i'm back to wearing the "moon boot" again. Wish I could join you and Bobbi in your stepping challenge. I have the old fashioned stepper in the basement too, you have to count the steps, but I love it. Really tones the legs.

Z, I hate the computer when it eats my posts! And why does it always wait untill it's a really long one? So glas to hear that your DD is showing signs of improvement.

Donna, Hope you are in a much better mood tomorrow. Tomorrow, tomorrow, the sun will come out tomorrow......

Karen, I HATE seeing someone driving and talking on a cell. just what do you have to say that is so important. Did you see Dr. Oz last week when he said that over use of cell phones was causing CA? We're going to have a bunch of kids with Ca if it's really true. They don't seem to be able to exist without those things in their ears.

Isabella, You are such a good exerciser. Wish I could come walk with you. But I would probably slow you down. I remember when you just started walking.

Bobbi, I am so green with envy right now. This "togetherness" thing is just not what it's cut out to be. I think that must be for teenagers.

A quick Hi and Good-bye........DH came home empty handed, no deer. That's o.k. with me, we still have 1/2 an elk in the freezer. It's good to get that used up. I wanted to have the whole house decorated before he got home but that didn't happen. I'm very thankful he got home safe, I worry about him having a heart attach so something. (He's 66 and not used to all that walking and climbing)
Lynn... you rascal! I see you got in 400 steps yesterday so today I'll do the same. Oh, I love a challenge! And you got started on Thanksgiving side dishes too!
Freda...HaHa, I'm fortunate that DH and I bump along together so well. We respect each other when we need our quiet time. But I love when I can bang around in the kitchen at night if I want to.

I think that must be for teenagers.

I need to run downstairs, fill in the cracks on my face and get into town for some shopping.

Just wanted to run by and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!! I'll be leaving work at 2:00 today, picking up a few last minute groceries, and then home to start cooking. This year, we're all going down to my daughter's house in Berkely, MA, which is about an hour and 15 minutes from us. Her in-laws will be there, too. SOOOOO, I don't have to do a turkey. Amazing. I've never not done a turkey - not in about 35 years! Of course I'm doing a smaller (13-pounder) one for us at home. My local son-in-law was lamenting the lack of leftovers, and I couldn't help but take pity on him. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!! Never mind that my favorite part of Thanksgiving is the leftovers, too!!!) I'm bringing a ham to dinner, and corn muffins - a specialty of mine. Mostly, I'm awfully happy to be having four days off - and with my son-in-law off from school already, I didn't have to go to my daughter's this morning to stay with her while my DH dropped our granddaughter off at school, either. I slept late! (6:00). Felt good. I've been fighting a cold - just keeping it at bay by taking cold medicine every four hours. We also have to do some car shopping over the holiday weekend. Omigosh, Once I start to chat, I never can get myself stopped! So much to do, too. :dizzy: Hmmm, Bobbi & Lynn, I'm finding this stepping challenge of yours pretty interesting. I might want to join in after the holidays - too late to WIN any challenges, but fun on a day-to-day basis for me, I'm thinking. :D
Okay, wishing everyone - Bobbi, Lynn, Freda, Isabella, Gayle, Karen, Rosey, Donna....and anyone I've unintentionally missed...a very Happy (calorie-free) Thanksgiving!!!!!!

Hey Jess,

I just gave up on counting this week - NOT a good idea. That scale just keeps climbing - despite all my steps. I will pull it back together next week.

Gravy and dressing are cooking - cranberry sauce and pumpkin pies are made. Just have the turkey for tomorrow.

Just wanted to jump in and wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Actually, we're not having dinner (Officially) untill the weekend. The kids are going to the other grandma's for dinner. I haven't quite decided what we will do. But we still have to eat and I have to make something. I'm going light in anticipation of the holiday though.

For the Holiday dinner I'm resolving not to totally over do. This is not the last Thanksgiving i'll see and I am going to eat well but not over do. My birthday is coming up soon and then Christmas. Lots of other reasons to celebrate with food. Small amounts of the things I really enjoy and I'm not feeling guilty for not eating the things that I don't, just because some thinks (you just have to taste this).

Lynn and Bobbi, that challenge is getting interesting!! How I wish I could join in. Maybe we can have another one when I am finally able to walk again.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American Friends. Have a great day with family and friends.

Gone shopping today as no holiday in Canada. Christmas and grocery shopping with DIL and Baby. I'm skipping my walk today and will bike tonight. I'll get in a bit of walking at the mall and grocery stores so that'll give me a bit of leg work.

Must go get dressed and do my hair.

Catch you all later.

Finally, it's fixed! Maybe they purposely choose Thanksgiving to get the bugs out knowing we're too busy with family to chat?
I didn't count calories but did eat two servings of Fiber One so I know I got over 40 grams of fiber. I had 1-1/2 piece of cheesecake, that's the only really bad thing I ate. My gravy was fat free, I ate only turkey breast. The spuds had lots of real butter, but worth every bite, yum. I made butternut squash that had a butter/flour/brown sugar and almonds on top, double yum. Tiffany brought a green salad that had sugared nuts and cranberries in it and tosses with sweet Italian dressing. I was so full that I skipped supper, I did eat that 2nd bowl of Fiber One before bed and that's it. How about the rest of you, what did you have?
Jess...Maxine is my favorite old bat, I have a Canadian friend that sends me lots of cartoons of Maxine. She is a riot!

Hello!! I sure hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. We did. I had my two brothers, my sister and my Aunt over. There was a lot of food left over that I sent on home with everyone. Did keep some turkey breast though. We didn't eat until about 2:00 so I didn't want any supper for sure. Take care....sure hope these bugs get fixed.

Lots of posting issues, I do hope it's fixed!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and to our Canadian Friends, a terrific Thursday.

Had a wonderful Thanksgiving, had lots of Family, Food and Fun, I did eat a bit over what I usually eat, and to tell you the truth, I can't wait to go back to normal on Friday. Had a bit of desserts, a smal bite of two pies, one choc chip cookie, and a pumpkin cookie, was yummy and enjoyed every morsel. Was able to get in my exercise, it did mean getting up an hr earlier, but well worth it, look forward to my "me time"

So is anyone going out to brave the first offical day of the shopping season, Black Friday?? I did look at the sale flyers and very tempted to go, but....I just might wait until later in the afternoon, when the crowds thin out.

have a great day

Good morning everyone. So glad to hear about your Thanksgiving events. I had a good day yesterday, too. It's not Black anything here but I found a real bargain in self-sharpening knives for the DILs' gifts. I got a 3 pack of different size knives for the price of one. I think they'll appreciate them as their knives are always needing sharpening and these are in their own sharpener and get sharpened every time they are used. I have them and love them. I usually give them something for the kitchen besides something for themselves.

I want to walk today but it's raining. I'm hoping it will clear up a bit as I want to drop off at the mall and pick up pjs for the girls as well. There are sets with bottoms, tank top and a fleece top to match that I want to get them. With everyone conserving heat that fleece top would come in handy jumping out of bed on a chilly winter morning. Might get myself a pair as well. But I have to walk to get there as DS has the car today. PJ's are light enough to carry when walking.

Yesterday I made a delicious fruit soup. It had dried prunes, apricots and raisins, fresh apple, frozen strawberries, canned peaches and pineapple in tapioca thickened pineapple juice. I love fruit soup hot or cold but had to watch my serving size. I think I'm going to trot right down to the kitchen and have some with my cereal.

Have a good day shopping if any of you venture out and catch you later.

Good Morning Girls, how wonderful to get on 3FC's with one click and no busy signal!
Institches...I agree with you and Lynn, it does feel good to get back to routine in our eating habits. There is one piece of cheesecake left in the frig this morning and I told Bruce he had to eat it or I'd kill him.
Had a wonderful Thanksgiving, had lots of Family, Food and Fun, I did eat a bit over what I usually eat, and to tell you the truth, I can't wait to go back to normal on Friday.
Isabella...I love dried fruit, I keep it around to put in my homemade oatmeal packets. But the calories? Geeeeez, down right sinful. Your concoction would be great on cereal in the morning.

Lynn...You'll get your new way of eating ironed out eventually, it'll just take continual adjusting until you find the the right combination of food/juice to start losing again. You try so hard and we all know how frustrating it is.
Jess...cute joke of Crabby Maxine. I have a 'Crabby Maxine' desk calendar with a new joke every day. Yesterday she said, "Show some respect this Thanksgiving. Mute the TV while you say grace". It reminded me of yesterday when SIL had his face glued to the Packard football game. I told his earlier when we eat the TV goes off. Our living room and Dining room is L shaped so we can't see the TV but we can hear it, I turned the channel to old Christmas music when we sat down. No grumbling on his part so we had a peaceful dinner.
Today Maxine says, " It's the busiest shopping day of the year! I'll be in the root cellar." In answer to Institches question about anyone going out to Black Fridays shopping? I'm with Maxine and staying home!
I'm going to start some turkey soup in a bit, better go out and get on the stepper so Lynn doesn't get ahead of me.

Hi Everyone,

Hope your Thanksgiving was fun. We will be having our big dinner on Sunday so I have yet to get through it. The kids went to her mom's yesterday and it's too far away to run back and forth. You can't enjoy anything that way.

It is nice to be able to get back on here isn't it? I'm with Donna, I think that they chose yesterday to work the bugs out, I hope.

Isabella, I've got a set of those knives too. Really nice. I know your family will enjoy them.

Institches, I'm going to the Black Friday sales this morning, but i'm going out aftet the crowds have thinned a little. There are a few things I want to pick up and the pirces are sure right! If I didn't have this boot to draga around I would have been one of those crazy people out there when the doors opened. Just can't compete this year. I did notice on TV this morning that the crowds were much better behaved and there was supervision.

Lynn, It is good to get back to healthy eating, isn't it? I think my body rebells when I eat too much junk.

Gayle, Must have been your Holiday off. I hope you enjoyed it.

Karen, So nice to be with family on the holidays. That is what makes it a Holiday, not the food or the gifts.

How is your foot since you took off the cast?

OK - tossed the remaining stuffing and gravy and froze the remaining pumpkin pie. Made some turkey soup with veggies. Gotta run - my step board is calling.

Good afternoon, All... Glad this holiday is over. I'm not used to eating rich, and I feel bloaty and blechy. And I didn't even especially overdo it... I guess I'm just a little pure person, right? Right.

Went to Costco to get my eyeglasses adjusted... NO CROWDS. Went to WalMart to get some stuff with Granny... NO CROWDS. I was so surprised. The Black Friday folks must have all gone home to bed.

SO glad this site seems to be recovered. It was making me Cranky Donna, easily strong competition for Cranky Maxine!!

Didn't get for my walk today as it poured rain so I didn't get to the mall either. I did bike for an hour so that was my exercise for today besides my upper body exercises (50 counter push-ups). I weigh in tomorrow so I'm anxious to see if I've lost any weight this week. Stayed the same last week so it's my turn to lose. :D

Looks like they got the bugs worked out of the site. I am happy! Some of the other site are ok but i have to say, this one is the easiest and the best.

Can't do any walking right now, but I am doing my weights again. It seems that my shoulder has finally healed. Sure took long enough. Looks like one thing at a time is breaking down. I am almost afraid to say "what next".

Lynn and Bobbi, when you finish your challenge on the stepper you are going to be so toned. it makes such a difference. I am at goal weight again and i'm comfortable in a 6, even a little loose. But before i was wearing a 4 and i couldn't figure out why i couldn't now. BECAUSE i was exercising and more toned! Both of you will be seeing it soon.

My foot is doing better, thanks Lynn. I am so happy to have that cast off. I will never again complain about my boot. And i'm using the electrical stimulator every night for 3 hours. I have to say that Thanksgiving was the first night in 3 months I haven't had to have soemthing for pain. Good sign, right?

Have a good night,

Freda...I would love to have my boobs toned but that doesn't work does it? I would like to have a toned body but I'm afraid my clothes won't fit anymore. I'm in a loose 6 too and really don't want to lose anymore. Lynn and Bobbi, when you finish your challenge on the stepper you are going to be so toned.
Okay Lynn... you're really pushing me aren't you:devil: I was going to sign off on my challenge with 600 steps until I noticed you went for 1,050. So I trotted back out to the stepper and did 450 more. I have to say I don't like it, not that many at one time. I was leaning on the bars for a few minutes but then something kicked in and I got a spurt of energy back. This is a great exercise for me, I love that my heart rate gets pumping!
Isabella...I used to do counter push-up but sort of forgot about them. I keep my stretch bands at my computer desk and use those when down loading stuff. Do you do all 50 at once?
Jess...
And I didn't even especially overdo it... I guess I'm just a little pure person, right? Right.

I'm going to bed now, Lynn. Don't you dare get back on the stepper! I'm not doing anymore.

I just got off the scales and have lost 2.5 pounds this week. I didn't lose anything last week so I'm so happy this morning. This is my free day so I hope I don't blow it by really over eating. This is the day I have my dessert for the week so I don't want to eat so much to push the scales back up.

Bobbi, yes, I do all 50 push-ups at one time. I was so sore last week when I started again but this week the soreness has gone. I can get to about 25 before the muscles start to burn which is better than last week also.

I had bought a new pair of dress pants 2 weeks ago but they were a little baggy in the legs but fit in the waist. I decided to take them back and I'm so glad I did. They would have been too big by Christmas. That means I'm going to start trying on size 8s soon. :)

Freda, glad to hear your foot is improving with the pain. I know what you mean about breaking down one body piece at a time. It seems as if something is always in the "shop" for repairs.

Have a good weekend, everyone and I'll catch you all later.

ADVICE FROM A RETIRED HUSBAND

It is important for men to remember that as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are over sensitive, and there's nothing worse than an over sensitive woman.

My name is Ron. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Carol Anne. When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Carol Anne to get a full time job, along with her part time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed. Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age.

I usually get home from the golf club about the same time she gets home from work. Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don't yell at her.. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men's Grill at the Club, so eating out is not reasonable. I'm ready for some home-cooked grub when I hit that door.

She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner. I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.

Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example, she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But, boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way, she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know what I mean).. I like to think tact is one of my strong points.

When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half finished mowing the yard. I try not to make a scene. I'm a fair man. I tell her to fix herself a nice big cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me too.

I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Carol Anne. I'm not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However, guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile. After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Ron died suddenly on 31 January of a perforated rectum.

The Police report says he was found with a Calloway extra long 50 inch Big Bertha Driver II golf club jammed up his rear, with barely 5 inches of grip showing, and a sledge hammer laying nearby.

His wife Carol Anne was arrested and charged with murder. The all woman jury took only 10 minutes to find her not guilty, accepting her defence that Ron, somehow without looking, accidentally sat down on his golf club.

Omigawd, Karen. Not that it fits my circumstances, but that was funny nonetheless. Reminds me of my brother and his wife, actually. They're in their seventies and recently sold their house and moved into an upscale retirement community. My brother's wife Jane, who has waited on him hand and foot for the past fifty years was sleeping one morning when I called at @8:00. He said that he was "letting her sleep in for an extra half-hour or so" because she'd complained (such a complainer, that Jane!) of being tired from doing all the packing and then all the unpacking for their move. He tries to be considerate, after all, but he hopes she'll be up soon because he's getting hungry and "sure as heck hopes she's gonna get him some breakfast before it's time for lunch!" Auuuurrrgh.
I've got to say that all this talk of loose size sixes has me a bit green with envy. And here I am, celebrating because my size twelves are baggy! I guess I'd better scrap my plan for becoming the next all-American "mature" model......if there is such a thing, that is. I'm trying to become more comfortable in my own skin these days. I've spent my entire life "watching" my weight and bouncing up and down. Now I just want to stay at a healthy weight for myself, and try to enjoy life at the same time if that's possible. I got through Thanksgiving dinner fairly intelligently, I think - no potatoes (which everyone was raving about, so I feel pretty virtuous in not taking any) and reasonable-sized servings of white meat turkey and lean ham, cabbage, mashed turnip and one tablespoon (just one, honest!) of my daughter's pecan-glazed sweet potato casserole - omigawd, that tastes so decadent! Drank water and more water, and ate one sliver of chocolate <gulp> cream pie. (Still licking my lips from that). So, altogether not too excessive, but not strictly OP, either. C'est la vie.
Yesterday, DH and I went car-shopping. I think I may have mentioned that the transmission is gone on my 8-year-old Toyota Corolla? I wanted to stick with Toyota, didn't want to pay for a Prius, but wanted something that would get me 80 miles a day (40 in, 40 back) as economically as possible. We use DH's car for trips and such, so all I really need is a work - and errand-running car. So, we tried the Yaris and didn't like it, and went over to Nissan, tried the Versa hatchback and fell in love with it! Bought one in silver with charcoal gray interior - picking it up Monday. I drove it on the 'Pike IN THE RAIN, and it held the road beautifully up to 75mph (Under dry conditions, traffic flows at @ 80, unless there's a backup) and it performed well while braking, taking corners, etc. PLUS there's enough room (surprisingly) in the back seat for two carseats (the twinnies) and one passenger (their big sister). My daughter was very emphatic when we were comparing Yaris's and Versa's - and Honda Fits, as well - about the need for TWO carseats to fit in the back comfortably. Guess this old lady's going to be doing some driving around with a pack of grandkids in another couple of years! :D
Congrats, Isabelle! 2.5 pounds is awesome! And I know you won't let Thanksgiving get you sidetracked! Great job!
Freda, I'm so glad that your pain is subsiding some. Losing sleep because you're in pain just really runs down your whole system. I'm glad that you're in the advanced healing process - soon you'll be out there stepping with all the rest. (I'm still thinking about the stepping thing.....;) ) So far, I'm just doing a lot of THINKING...
Good grief, Bobbi and Lynn! PLEASE don't overdo with all that competition stuff! (This from a non-competitive, allergic-to-exercise sloth). But we DO want you both to retain enough energy to keep posting, and the way you're going, the stepping may get in the way of any time at the computer at all! (Unless you can step while at the computer, I suppose?) Oh, don't mind me...I'm just JEALOUS, is what it is. You'll both be toned (except for the boobies?) and I'll still be gellatin-thighed Gertie up here in the cold northeast.
Hey, Gayle, Institches (do we know your actual name and I somehow missed it?) Donna, Rosey...and all the folks I'm sure to miss here....Happy post-Thanksgiving to all, and to all a good afternoon!!!

Hi All,

Just an easy, restful day. not too much running around. I ate healthy, drank all my water and i'm feeling very good about it.

Very funny Karen. Afraid i would have to vote along with the other juriors.

Bobbi, I'm pretty sure it would mean another size down for you, if you're already a loose 6. But it's so worth it (to me any way) to be toned. But I would hate to have to go out and buy all new clothes too. Sorry the boobs don't work that way. If they did we would all being doing that exercise!

Hi Z, We just got out of the 2 car seats in the back. Only one now, DGS is 10. And remember, you're 5'6", i'm just 5'1". I think Bobbi is taller than me too. One size does not fit all. Congratulations on making good choices for Thanksgiving.

You too, Donna. At 5'7" a size 6 would probably be really thin for you. Just being a good healthy weight should be our goal.

Hello all

Been a busy weekend. I have not done well with the challenge thing, so guess I will probably drop out. Too bad ~ I desperatly needed to form the habit of daily exercise.

Daughter Sara is needing to sell her house (son Jason lives there and rented from her, but dwindling paychecks make it so he can no longer afford that). She and her husband and my husband have been working painting the walls fresh to get it ready to sell. I have been called upon for extra babysitting duties ~ not that I mind that :D ~ but I have got some stuff for work (education requirements) hanging over my head ~ due by the end of the year. Seems like so much stuff piles up all at once. Christmas shopping and all yet too :dizzy: Ohhh the stress ~ sigh.

So then Jason is needing to find somewhere else to live ~ he does not deal well with change so ~ more stress trying to help him. Went with him on Saturday ~ driving by possibilities, then again Sunday went with him to appointments he had to be shown a couple places. He liked the one and has filled out an application. I felt hopeful about that one ~ the gentleman who showed it seemed nice ~ he liked Jason's stable work record. I am hoping he gets approved for this place. Jason has been saying that he wished he lived in the neighborhood too (Sara lives right around the corner ~ in walking distance). If Jason gets this place he will be maybe 2 miles away (could bike that) I would like having him closer ~ if he needed help ~ we would be closer by to be able to do that.

Sorry to have not been able to do the personals :o Hopefully maybe on my next days off.

Back to work for me today. :( Oh well.

Take care

Good Morning, a quick comment and we have to run into town for many errands. We decided to buy a new chest freezer, I shopped on line and saw many deals. We're going to compare with our local stores for the best deals.
Glynne...sorry to hear you're dropping out of the new challenge but you need to be in the right state of mind to stick with it. I've been there, done that. If I don't feel motivated, I won't put my all in it. Maybe after Christmas is over, you'll be able to jump back in.
Been a busy weekend. I have not done well with the challenge thing, so guess I will probably drop out. Too bad ~ I desperatly needed to form the habit of daily exercise.

Hubby is chomping at the bit to get going and I still have to go curl my hair and fill in the cracks on my face..........later gator!

Hi Everyone,

Finished first 300 steps. Shooting for 1200 today. Had a nice visit with my sister, but she was in a lot of pain. We're not sure what's wrong - she's been to a lot of doctors, but no one knows what she has. I found a Lyme disease doctor near her - I hope she will try this doctor.

Dreary day here today. No special plans.

Check back later,

Lynn

I had a good weekend and stayed within my calories and got in a 6k walk each day. Does dragging large bags filled with Christmas presents about 2k from the mall to home count as a workout? If it doesn't, it should. My arms and shoulders haven't been the same since Saturday night when I did that. Hahahaha. It's my new workout--Christmas shopping heavy bag workout.

I'm a bit tired the last few days--arms and legs feeling tired. I get like that every once and a while. Maybe it's all that Christmas shopping on the hoof that's doing it. I've got most of it done now and will finish when I get home in less than 2 weeks. I'm going to make a few cookies for DIL this week and a cherry pound cake for my sister. So that will be a few more things to drag home from the grocery store tomorrow. DS has the car during the day going to work and back.

Must go get a bite to eat before DIL starts teaching piano. Catch you all later.

Hola, All! Nothing exciting to report... been running around all day and have been having computer frustrations (their problems, not mine!). Most annoying. I have a humongous batch of Wendy's chili in the crock pot (sorry, slow cooker), which is smelling pretty yummy. Enough there for lots of meals, and it should freeze well.

Maybe more excitement tomorrow... you all are so busy! Be well...

Looking forward to changing the picture and squiggly thingie to Christmas theme, tomorrow!
