Motivation is needed in Amarantha's Empire. Will everyone please add a quote or quotes here that will inspireth the discouraged to continue on their journey no matter what the odds!? Could we see how many we can compileth here? :)
Here are two:
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'press on' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." ~ Calvin Coolidge
"When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on." ~ FDR

Patience makes all hardships light. ~ Estonian Proverb

I don't know who said it, but it always come to mind when I'm faced with a challenge:
"If you set out to do a task and mean to do it really,
Never let it be by halves - do it, fully, freely."

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with but a single step." ~ Unknown
Thanks to Carree and Wildfire! More? :)

I like this quote, appeared on a local Church board:
We revolve around the Son !!!!

Happiness is not found by getting everything you want....
happiness is found by appreciating everything you have.
Cravings are like stray cats... they will keep coming back as long as you feed them.
Giving up your favorite food is hard... but being FAT is harder.
No one ever died from not eating between meals.

This isn't so much a quote as a bit of inspirational wisdom.
"A year from now, you'll wish you had started today!"
Come on Ladies! How many times have you calculated how much you could have lost if you'd started on New Years Day, on your last birthday, last summer, etc... Start today!
35 Pounds lighter than I was a few months ago!

Sara Joy, 2Cute, Gutchie ... thanks for your wise words.
I have another one that isn't a quote; well, it is a quote, actually, from my brother. Years ago when I started my sort of over-aged student act and was trying to decide whether to enroll to earn my bachelor's degree, I told him, "But by the time I graduate, I'll be (NUMBER OMITTED) years old!" and he said, "Well, you'll be (NUMBER OMITTED) years old then anyway, but you won't have a bachelor's degree."
Dunno, that always stayed with me and helped remind me to start doing whatever I wanted to accomplish and not worry about whether its the right time in life. It's always the right time to start; it's the only time we have.
"Never think that a few caring people can't change the world; indeed, that's all that ever have." ~ Margaret Meade

Amarantha, I've got a million of them but here's my current favorite:
Cultivate holy boldness, for God helps the strong.

"Holy boldness" ... that's a great concept! Thanks, Eydie. :)
Here are more:
"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe." ~ Anatole France
"Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right." ~ Henry Ford
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
"The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it-as long as you really believe 100 percent." ~ Arnold Schwarzenegger

One of my favorites is:
"Our real blessings often appear to us
in the shapes of pains, losses and disappointments;
but let us have patience,
and we soon shall see them in their proper figures".

How serendiptious that that would be your quote!!!!!!! That is exactly the message (maybe not those exact words but the sentiment for sure) that finally motivated me to start changing my lifestyle.
In a year from now I could be exactly where I am if I don't make any changes or....... I could be 100 pounds lighter .
And in keeping with the theme of serendipity here is my contribution to this forum of inspirational quotes (unfortunately I didn't record who the author is):
"Concerning all acts of initiative and creation....the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one."

Mine may be cheesey...but I thought this would be good for the support.
"You are what you eat."

Thanks to Sinnrah, Marusha & Happy Housewife!!! :)
Here's another: "The world is round, so travelers tell, but straight though be the track, trudge on, trudge on, the world is round, the way will lead one back."
I don't know who wrote this, either, but it seems relevant to our weight loss journeys ... that we WILL eventually return to our proper fitness level and body weight, as well as returning to our real selves in the metaphysical self.

"If it's going to be, it's up to me."
and "If you want to be thinner, diminish your dinner."
and "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels."

JoJoJo, hello!!! :) Thanks for the quotes. You always inspire me. I think of you plugging away up there in such a consistent way, drinking sugar free coca and maintaining, maintaining, maintaining.
Another quote (from a long-ago forum at Cyberdiet ... I don't know who posted it, so apologies to them for not citing properly). I've often used this as a walking mantra, which is what it was posted as ... putting one foot in front of the other, saying: "What do you want?" Taking another step: "How much do you want it?" Then reciting as you go along.

I'm not trying to be facetious here, though this does sound kind of flippant. It's my DS's favorite saying and oddly enough it gets me through those trying times when my patience is frayed.
"Don't sweat the petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things."
07-31-2002, 07:12 PM
Hmmm. Have to think about that one while I do my Pilates! :) Thanks Upandaway! (P.S. IMO, it's ok to be facetious if you want!)
That made me think of inspirational book titles, though, such as "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" by somebody! There is one that I like called: "You Can't Afford the Luxury of a Negative Thought" ... again, I don't know the source and sorry again.
Here's more old sayings that I don't know who said, but think they would make fine fitness/diet mantras:
"Today is the first day of the rest of your life!"
"All things come to him who waits!"
"Knock and the door shall open!" (Ok, that's in the Bible)
"Never put off 'till tomorrow what you can do today!"
"If you can dream it, you can achieve it." (Please IGNORE the famous ice cream company that says, "If you can dream it, we can ice cream it!" ... just IGNORE that).
"Good, better, best, never let it rest, until the good is better and the better best."
"I'm a lean, mean Amazon queen!" (I think Amarantha said that, but she may have swiped it!)

Ummm, how about this?
"My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four. Unless there are three other people." ~ Orson Welles

Here's one I have stuck all over the house:
"MODERATION, Learn It, Live It, Love It."
08-03-2002, 08:01 AM
I have a twist on that all things come to those who wait.
"Good things come to those who wait..
But GREAT things come to those who go and work for it."
This next one is a favorite of mine. It can apply to any food plan or even to using this 3fc web site.
"If you follow this food plan we guarantee it will work.
If not... we will gladly refund your misery."
One more... "If not today... WHEN ?"
08-03-2002, 07:33 PM
2cute2bfat: I love your twist and the other quotes as well; thanks for the reminder, too: "If not today ... WHEN?"
Here's a variation (again, I have no idea who said it and am too lazy to look it up): "Defer not to tomorrow to be wise, for tomorrow's sun may never rise."
I'd say that'd apply to fitness, too! :)

OOh, I like that, Amarantha!
Here's my favorite quote from the learned Jedi Master, Yoda...
"Do...or do not...there is no try."
08-04-2002, 03:14 PM
Kat: That's a favorite of mine, too. Thanks for the reminder! :)
