Default Running!

This might sound pathetic...but I ran for 10 minutes without stopping today! Haha, I haven't done that in a while. However, if you are a runner I would like to ask:

What is a good regimen? Where should I start as a beginner? Should I run 10 minutes everyday for a week then up it to 15 the next week, etc.

Anyone have good advice for a beginning runner's schedule?

Gracias!

Luz

Well, it's very good to increase your running time/distance 10% every week.
But you always have to look how you feel after running. Once you come to 20minutes running, but it's not necessary to run 22 minutes next week. Maybe keep running 20 minutes for 2 weeks. Always listen to your body.
How many times do you run a week? It's good to run 3-4 times, not more. Do this until you want to run in a race

Good luck.

Luz, the best program IMO is the Couch to 5k (c25k) program... Just google it... It starts you gradually with increments of 1 min running and 1.5 min walking and increases weekly... Running 3x/week or every 2nd day...

Hope this helps...

Agree with Ilene... since you can already run 10 mins w/o stopping (WAY ahead of where I was when I started!! ) you might be able to skip ahead. IMO any type of beginner's schedule that incorporates run/walk intervals is the way to go.

GREAT job on running 10 minutes!!

10 minutes is a LONG time! Good for you!

I could only run 1/10th of a mile my first time. I just continued to run as far as I could and then walked it until I could run again. No set program, no schedule. It increases quickly when you stay after it.

Have fun!!!

I agree with C25k (can find it at C25k.com or coolrunning.com)

I've tried the C25K program before, but it didn't work well for me. I'm trying my own little plan. My first week I would run between 10 and 15 minutes straight, then between 12 and 17 minutes the next week, between 14 and 19 the next, etc., trying to run almost every day, unless I'm feeling too tired. I really like it so far! It feels much more organic than the C25K did for me.
