South Beach Diet - Beaching on the Weekend Chat
10-24-2009, 07:17 AM
:carrot: :carrot: :carrot: It's Saturday!
And, since it's Saturday, it's raining, of course. :dizzy: We seem to be followng a pattern here. But at least it's warm! :)
We're going up to the Amish farm market for breakfast (baked oatmeal!) and some grocery shopping. This afternoon I'm going to a Tastefully Simple party. I've checked them out on their website, and nothing looks to be SBD safe, so I'm going to eat my lunch before I go, and just have a glass of wine. I know I won't be buying anything! I wouldn't even go, but my SIL is hosting, and you know how that goes. ;) At least it will be fun to get out and socialize!
What's on everyone's agenda for the weekend?
10-24-2009, 07:48 AM
I love the weekend! So silly because, being retired, every day could be the weekend for me. Somehow it doesn't work out that way. We have rain for today too, Cottage, but I really didn't want to do outside work anyhow.
The dogs and I slept until nearly 7 this morning. I hope that's the start of a trend. I'm not sure what will happen when we adjust to the time change next weekend.
Today is "Hazardous Waste Day" at the dump but I really don't feel like hauling old paint cans in the rain. Clare and I are going to pop into the Seniors Tea and Bazaar around noon so lunch will be little fancy sandwiches with no crusts. Maybe even white bread! I'll stay in control and will definitely not try any of the gooey sweets that will also be part of the deal. This afternoon will be spent at home in the kitchen as I am overloaded with bananas that need drying and apples anxious to be made into sauce. Tea and the Saturday paper sounds good too! "Me" time is very important these days.
Hope your day is a good one and includes some "Me" time.

Hi Cottage and Ruth...Hmm...it seems we all have the same weather today. DH was going to paint the porch today so that will have to wait. I was going to walk the dogs and pick some apples  maybe I'll just do it anyway, since Bing now has rain gear.
We had an interesting evening...a guy was supposed to show up at 630 to evaluate the carpet for cleaning but when he showed he was ready to do it. I had dinner on the stove and instead we moved all the living room furniture into the kitchen and went outside while they worked. We talked about going out, but instead found space to eat and went to bed early. I moved the furniture back this morning and took a moment to take in the beautiful work before the doggies tracked back in.
It is our last farmers market, so I think I'll get some more Honeycrisps for drying and thank everyone for such a nice season. Here, our rain can turn to snow very quickly, so I'm preparing. I think I'll combine knitting, paperwork and housecleaning for a very enjoyable day.
Ruth, the Senior Tea and Bazaar is right down my alley. Wish I was closer. BTW, how are your Bingo knees? I hope, OK.
Cottage, baked oatmeal sounds delightful. Have you ever tried it? Enjoy the market and your party...at least it's not tupperware or candles.
Hi to everyone else:wave:
10-24-2009, 08:35 AM
It's overcast and dreary here in the Sunshine State but no sign of rain...yet. I hope it holds off because my middle daughter drove up to visit (our weekend/vacation house) for the sole purpose of surfing Daytona Beach. I guess if a storm kicks up she'll have bigger waves...gulp...just another thing for this mama to worry about!
Hope you all have a beach-y day!
10-24-2009, 08:44 AM
Sorry the rain has you all in it's clutches! After a while it's pretty depressing.
Seems like no rain for us today. We had a horrid storm night before last, tornado warnings etc. But today is cold and should be sunny.
No adventures planned for today. Just going to work out in the yard when it warms up and do some house cleaning and work for school. An "old" design client wants me to do some work on her site too. Not really up to that and keep pushing her to find someone to take over the site. I'm out of that business and don't want to fool with it since my weekends are the only free time I have. Will work on it tomorrow.
Had fun last night out with friends. Got a great grain crust/veggie/shrimp pizza and had a couple of beers.
10-24-2009, 08:53 AM
Good morning :coffee2: I'm moving slowly this morning. Must be the rain and the dreary ;)
Cottage - Good luck with that party. Hope you get a little relaxing time, sounds like you've had a busy week. See you later for a glass of wine ;)
Ruth - :crossed: I hope this is a new morning routine for the dogs. I'll be hitting those apples myself later :)
Debbie - I have a recipe somewhere for baked oatmeal. It used to be one of my favorite breakfasts before I discovered the crockpot porridge. Speaking of that, it's about time to start that again.
I'm always so sad to see the Farmers Market end. They started a winter market here. You have to get there early to get the good stuff though. We are doing a Winter share at a local farm. It's actually Nov-Dec but has fresh greens and pears so I'm happy.
Strega - It never really gets easier for Mamas :) Enjoy your visit.
Cat - Good morning! Glad your weather is better today! That pizza sounds wonderful
No surprise - it's raining here too. Looks like heavy rain so we will be indoors all day. That's not bad because I've seen our house ;) I've got the usual - bread, beans, apples and chard to dry and another batch of pumpkin butter. I"m going to try cooking a stew in a pumpkin for dinner. I've been eyeing one of those recipes and it looks fun.
We are keeping our fingers crossed for tomorrow and nice weather. It will either be birding or a party, or maybe a little of both :)
Think I'll plan a little Me time today too.
10-24-2009, 09:04 AM
Strega-luna, have a beachy weekend. I read your blog every morning, thanks. Your recipe sounds great!
Cat, I always enjoy touching base with you on the weekend. Enjoy your time off.
Cyndi, sounds like a typical day for you. I hope your chores are smooth, you get some "me" time and that the weather shifts in favor of a Sunday out.
Gothik, thanks for the computer help yesterday. I really like having my beacher bio on my sig-especially since it took so long to write one. Its difficult finding bios since there are so many.
10-24-2009, 09:28 AM
Ugh I'm so tired this morning. I didn't get to sleep til late and for some reason i was up way early! had a cinnimon omelet for breakfast. it was yummy. Gotta do some grocery shopping this weekend and some cleaning. We'll see what actually gets done.
10-24-2009, 09:39 AM
Happy Saturday everyone. Raining here as well....oh well. I think this is the 5th weekend in a row we have had rain. Not too much going on today. DD has gymnastics this morning and then she is off to a neighbors to play. I need to get my nieces baby shower gift wrapped -- her shower is tomorrow.
Sillyfluff - is the cinnamon omlet recipe posted here? Sounds interesting. I need to go through the SDB receipes some to get some new ideas.
Stregaluna - hope you get some sun today.
Cottage - have fun at breakfast.
Well, got to get moving. BBL
10-24-2009, 10:27 AM
Rain here too.
I too would love to go to a farmers market but our local one is a joke. There is very little fresh veggies or fruit but lots of homecooking for sale. This one chap was selling soup at $8. a quart and apple pies (small ones) for $6. he was surprised when I told him I could make all this stuff myself.
Busy weekend cleaning the guestroom and washroom and then planning meals for when my sil comes over and of course I have to sent some baking with him. I think I will have a leg of lamb because I know he likes it and they can't afford to buy this expensive meat right now.
Have a good weekend chickies
10-24-2009, 11:34 AM
Morning All!! Sorry our rain of the last two days has dampened your weekend. However, the sun peeking through the fog this morning is quite beautiful. Hope you all get some ME time in today. As for me, my DD and I are going to the BIG city (about an hour away) for some mother-daughter time - should be fun. Hope you all have a wonderful day - stay dry.
10-24-2009, 11:46 AM
Back from morning errands and curled up on the couch watching the pouring rain and drinking my Pumpkin Spice tea. The market had winter squashes on sale for 19 cents a pound, so I stocked up. I have a pot of butternut squash soup simmering on the stove right now, and it smells so good. I think I'll have a big bowl of it before I go to my SIL's. :)
Debbie, I eat baked oatmeal almost every weekend, and I adore the stuff! I have recipes for it, but don't make it. There's an Amish lady who sells it out of her little roadside bake shop, and she offers a SF version, too. When I go there, I like to get several and freeze them in individual portions. My SIL tells me she sells a pumpkin cinnamon one now, too, so I'm going to have to try that one out soon.
10-24-2009, 01:51 PM
Sillyfluff - is the cinnamon omlet recipe posted here? Sounds interesting. I need to go through the SDB receipes some to get some new ideas.
yea it is posted. I can't remember where though. All it basically is is 2 eggs, 2 packets of splend, sprinkle of cinnimon. Mix this all together. Cook it like you normally would an omelet and put FF cream cheese inside instead of reg cheese. Top it with a little SF syrup. Make me think of stuffed french toast. YUM!
10-24-2009, 04:55 PM
I enjoyed our farmers market and have managed to knit all afternoon. I'll have both the hat and scarf finished to give to a girl who goes to our church tomorrow. I do see the sun peeking out, though. We have plans to go to the movies tonight which is always subject to change.
Silly, hope you get some weekend rest-too much spirit last week.
Paula, there are really alot of good recipes on the forum. I've been reading them lately for new ideas.
Sophie, I'm sure you could make better apple pies, eh? Lamb sounds sooo good. DH doesn't like it so I don't ever cook it. Have fun preparing for your family.
Waquilter, fun fun. Glad you have sun.
back to knitting...
10-24-2009, 05:15 PM
OH, Suillyfulff -- that sounds YUMMY. Sweeten the creamcheese a bit with some splenda, add some cinnamon and vanilla to that.....hmm, guess whats for breakfast tomorrow.
Well, dd's playdate never happened. So we had a girls afternoon at the nail salon. I had my toes done, she got both a manicure and pedicure. She's only 6, but its always a battle when I attempt to cut her nails. It was fun. Then I ran into my babysitter who said she could sit tonight after work. So nice surprize night out for us!!! Its been so long since we've started our night out at 7!
I've been checking menus at a couple of restaurants -- It should be easy to stay on plan. I love salad with meat! I'm going to splurge with a glass of wine.
Lexxis - I crochet. I made two baby sweaters for my niece, her baby shower it tomorrow. I'm also making a sweater for my dd. I love it -- I 've never knitted, my sister does. I need to learn some day.
Hope you all have a good night.
10-24-2009, 08:32 PM
Sorry didn't get to post this morning woke up late again 8:10 a.m. and DD2 had a soccer game at 9 a.m. so we rushed to go to that.
Then home to clean the house- it definitely needed it.
Then DS had his final football game for HS, they brought out the Senior parents on the field and gave us flowers and football balloon. It was a nice day Sunny and 56, not too bad for the last game. We met DS girlfriends parents as well today as we are taking her with us to Branson next month. She has never been so should be fun.
Then had to go and get groceries cupboards were bare. Now just finishing up laundry and relaxing with a cup of tea.
The concert last night with Jeremy and Chad was wonderful- I didn't know their music as they were last together in 1969 except for one because it is in the movie the Princess Dairy. They were very funny and entertaining and beautiful harmony.
Tomorrow is church and Bruce Springsteen concert.
Hope you have a lovely evening tonight
10-24-2009, 08:58 PM
Tomorrow is church and Bruce Springsteen concert.
Wow, there's a flash back :) I stayed up all night to get tickets to the Born in the USA tour. It was worth it. It's been years since I've seen anyone but folk or jazz musicians. Sounds like fun
10-24-2009, 09:36 PM
I took a two hour nap today and am still ready for bed! I didn't sleep at all last night. Hey, isn't that a song?
It has turned into a beautiful fall day in Alabama. It started out rainy. I was thankful NOT to be assigned to the outdoor pancake cooking task. I was assigned the money taking/greeting task. Luckily, I can smile in the morning -- after coffee anyway.
Jeff is 'watching' football and snoring at the same time. Bet he would fuss if I changed the channel... ;)
See y'all tomorrow!
10-24-2009, 09:55 PM
Hi chicks. Had another crazy week, they are really keeping me hopping and I don't see it calming down until after the New Year if I am lucky. I did a little cleaning this morning and slapped together DD2's Halloween costume. Last week was DS's birthday, so we took him and some buddies to Five Guys for lunch, then to the farm for horseback riding. Came home, got DD delivered to a Halloween party, then collapsed on the couch with my wine. I let the boys know not to expect any dinner out of me tonight. Oh, and forgot to add that DD1 stopped by just to irritate me, her favorite hobby these days. Don't ya think 22YO is a little old to be expecting me to produce a Halloween costume for her?
Tomorrow I've got to work, but hope to take a little break to check out the Trolley Festival here in town. At least the weather should be better.
Anxious apples, funny Ruth. You do love your alliteration! Are you still coming to PA for my birthday, I mean Thanksgiving?
Cyndi, "Bruuuuuuuuuuce!" I spent quite a bit of time in line for those tickets too! Have fun Pearly! How did the stew turn out Cyndi?
Hello blessed, I don't believe we've met. I've been scarce around here lately.
Whatya goin to see Lexxis? I am really in the mood for a good movie.
cottage, I have turned DH into a butternut squash soup addict, thanks to you. We are going to Hershey next weekend, and staying overnight to do a little touring, maybe the Strasburg Railroad.
sillyfluff, I know that omelet is really popular. I just couldn't get used to sweet eggs.
waquilter, hope you had a great day with DD.
Cat! Hello stranger!
stregaluna, hope you get your sunshine back soon.
Think I got everyone in there! Has Kierie been around? Enjoy the rest of the weekend, all ....

DH's neice is getting married in 2 weeks I tried on my "hey hot Lady" Gown today it's black satin and almost floor lenght with a black satin bolero and it fits better than this time last year!
one of my gfs came in from england with her dh and step DD so we went to another friends last night for Shabbat (they're orthodox jews) dinner and it was so awesome everybody tells stories and jokes and sings i love it b/c ppl actually talk to each other.

I'm going to try to exercise in the Am nothing involving the legs till the doc says ok but I need to de sloth myself!

Good morning :coffee2: I think we are going to head to the ocean today and enjoy the sunshine and mild temperatures. Hopefully some interesting birds will be around too :)
Debbie - You're right, all my weekends seem the same lately. How dull! Wonder what I'll find to do once all the fruit and veggies are dried?! Hope you had a fun evening last night.
Schmoodle - Life sure sounds hectic for you right now. I hope you can squeeze a little time in for a glass of wine and no demands. Yeah, I'd say that at 22 she is on her own.
Chelby - Glad the fundraiser was a success!
Sarah - Hope you enjoyed your evening out :) My DD lives in Boston and we can always find great on plan food when I visit.

10-25-2009, 06:56 AM
Wow! Busy Beachers! I'm tired just reading about your Saturdays.
Church this morning and then some outdoor work if it's dried up enough. Wet leaves are impossible to rake. l really need to get the outside stuff done this week because it sure won't happen if it gets much colder. If I can't work out there, I'll tackle a big cookie baking order that I agreed to at the last Church sale. Somebody hold me back next time!
Hey! Next weekend the time changes. Too bad it doesn't happen before Halloween so it'd be dark earlier for the kids. I still haven't bought my H. crud - it definitely cannot be red liquorice or potato chips. Maybe Cheezies and Coffee Crisp bars - two things I hate. Whoops! Too early in the day for food porn!
Time to hustle and get a few thing done before I get organized for Church. I did a crockpot of applesauce overnight and would like to buzz it smooth with a bit of beet cooking liquid to make it pink.
Have a delightful Sunday!
10-25-2009, 07:34 AM
Good morning everybody!
:coffee2: Yep, that's me right now. :) Jake's coffee is always so much better than mine. Maybe the fact that it's already made makes me enjoy it more. ;)
Cyndi, enjoy your day birding at the shore. I'd love to be able to come along, I just love the seashore any time of the year.
Ruth, we bought our Halloween candy yesterday, and thankfully, candy doesn't tempt me. Jake always has a basket of it sitting on the livingroom coffee table. Thanks for the reminder that we turn the clocks back next week. Then I will start counting down the days until my VIP visitor comes! :carrot:
I have a laundry to do today, and Jake wants a haircut. I'd like to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond for a few things, too. Then there's the usual Sunday dinner to prepare, and Monica and Carley may come out for the day, too.
I'd better get started!
10-25-2009, 07:50 AM
Yesterday was a lazy day for me. I worked on a few things for work (while cozy in my bed). Today I have to get some grocery shopping and laundry done. My fiance' comes home Friday (which i am SOOO ready for) and I've already given him a list of what has to be done when he gets home. I'm sure he's thrilled LOL. This coming week is going to be super busy for me..lets hope I get everything done that I am needing to. Well ladies I am off to start laundry and make a grocery list. I'll be back around later. :)
10-25-2009, 10:03 AM
We are getting ready to head up to the Trolley Festival in a bit. I'm so glad to see some nice weather today. They postponed due to weather last weekend and then yesterday was also a washout. At least they will have one good day. Today is the bluegrass competition and auction. There are always some amazing handmade quilts made by the church ladies that go too high for my pocket, but it's fun to see them and help bid them up. There are also some good local artists that do watercolor scenes of the area. I am hoping one day my house will be in one of the paintings, but so far just the roof top and one corner has made it.
Then it's back home and work the rest of the day. I'm not looking forward to the coming week, but next weekend should be fun. Halloween at home, then an overnight getaway to Hershey and Amish country.
10-25-2009, 10:11 AM
Still finishing up some laundry this morning, but need to go get ready for church. This will be our second time seeing Bruce Springsteen but last time we had standing tickets on the floor, glad to have seats this time. :)
Ruth even though I went grocery shopping yesterday I didn't pick up the Halloween candy yet, there is enough in the house from parades still- I will pick some of up this week, but I am not tempted by the candy.
Cottage enjoy your day today.
Cyndi have fun bird watching hope you see tons.
Schmoodle hope you enjoyed your wine and vegging last evening.
Chelby how did the fundraiser go?
Debbie glad you have at the farmers market yesterday.
Kierie- Hope you can get some exercise in- I need to schedule a good workout this afternoon after church.
Sillyfluff- I am sure you are excited about your Fiancee coming home this week. Hope you get everything done this week.
Blessed- sounds like you had a fun time with your dd yesterday as well.
Last night was nice we just me and DD2 at home in the evening. DH took DD1 and some of her friends to the movies and DS and his GF went to the movies are their own. They all love to watch scary movies and I do not do scary. LOL
Looks to be a nice day again.
Have a great day everyone.
10-25-2009, 11:46 AM
Happy sunday everyone. We had a nice time out last night. Went to a local joint -- I had a great steak tip salad. I was surprised at how good it was. It was nice to eat without having someone lay on top of you, to not have to tell someone to stop kicking and be able to sit at a BAR!
Schmoodle -- I just started SBD about a week ago. So far so good! Is the trolley festival inKennebunk? In the summer we spend a week in Maine and always go to the Trolley museum.
Welll, its a beautiful sunny day here today. A huge change from yesterday. We've gone to church and I'm getting ready for my neices baby shower this afternoon. It should be a nice afternoon. Hope you all have a great day!
Pearl -- enjoy the concert today. Sounds like a great show.
10-25-2009, 03:42 PM
Seeing significant weight-loss due to staying OP and a number of "celebrations" that came in rapid succession. YES! Official weigh-in tomorrow. We'll see how Ph1W1 went.
So far, I seem to be doing well though. Lots of temptation but I've passed, even though Chris makes fun of me. "Have some popcorn honey. Don't you want some ice cream?" He's just kidding me because he eats anything he wants and is a stick. Jerrrrrrrrrk. He supports me and wants me to be happy, he just thinks it's funny cuz I weigh less than he does. It'll be a lot easier once I'm on Ph2. I don't think he really "gets" Ph1. One more week!
Got some bad news on my way home from the grocery store. A couple that I'm friends with that has been together 13 years and just got married in August are splitting up. He's my friend, and she's become my friend from knowing them both for so many years. She called me because she didn't have anyone to talk to and wanted advice from "one Christian woman to another." Apparently he's been having online affairs with 3 different women, and has decided he wants nothing to do with her anymore.
SO, I cried with her on the phone for awhile, and then had to work VERY hard at not punching any holes in the walls or driving to Decatur to kick his $%#@! I put all that energy into cleaning my kitchen, starting the laundry, and cooking Refried Bean Soup to eat for the week. Had a small bowl (delish as always!) and now am going to work a little more on cleanliness and then make cottage's Spinach, Mushroom, and Mozzarella Supreme. That will be supper.
Also got the ingrediants for the Better-than-Meat Loaf for later in the week. Will definitely let you know how that goes! Thank God for sugar-free candy. Gonna have 2 pieces of chocolate to help my nerves. Parents invited me out for beer/appetizers to watch the Bears game. BOY WAS THAT TEMPTING after the afternoon I've had. I said no.
Good girl. :(
Anyhoozle, back to laundry and more cleaning/decluttering. I have less than a month before I move. CRAP. Hope everyone has had a great weekend!!!!!
10-25-2009, 08:20 PM
Well I got my grocery shopping done. I got my laundry done. I cooked bell peppers stuffed with what you'd put in a lasagna minus the noodles and then cabbage rolls with the rest of the meat&sauce. Very tasty. This should last me through almost the whole week. Tomorrow is the start of yet another crazy week for me so I'm off to bed. I just hopped on to check my farm on Facebook...man thats addictive. :) Good night ladies.
Oh yea, and tomorrow is weigh in day for me P1W2. I'll let you know in the am how that worked out. :)
10-25-2009, 08:23 PM
Fluff - ME TOO P1W2 WI tomorrow! See you in the morning! I'll tell your scale to be nice, and you tell mine to be nice!!!
10-25-2009, 08:31 PM
Lisa - you are rocking this program! :carrot::cb::broc: It's the dancing produce cheering section, cheering just for you ;) And Fluff
10-25-2009, 08:47 PM
Aw, thanks Cyndi and Dancing Produce!!! I'm trying to be good! :D
10-26-2009, 12:51 AM
sorry i didn't post this weekend, was really busy.
I will tell more about it all tomorrow... but suffice to say , I was and AM on plan during it all.
I even passed up those freaking chocolate cupcakes today with the cute little plastic bats stuck in the top!
