I'm on cloud nine, I ran my 1st 1/2 marathon today. I was shooting for 2hr 10 min and I came in just under at 2hr 9min. Still feeling that runners high! I hate to admit it because I've been complaining the past 3 weeks about all the training but I AM HOOKED! Not so sure a full marathon is in my future but I'm pretty sure I'll do a 1/2 again next year :D

Ohhh Congrats!!! You are my hero!! I couldn't even run a mile without feeling like I'm dying... we have very close to the same stats and so I'm really excited to see your results!! You give me a great amount of inspiriation... How did you lose your weight? When did you start? How did you start a running routine?

WOW aren't you something! Actually you're a couple of somethings: inspiring, amazing and down right determined! You have to be these things to have been so successful with your weight loss - and now a marathon? WOW!
Thanks so much for sharing - the smile on your face is worth a million dollars - you have me smiling, too.
Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Fantastic! Great work--what an exciting time!
On a related note, three runners dropped and passed away in the Detroit Marathon. I wonder whats up with that--I think they were all pretty young too..

Thank you BrittniMarie  Trust me I though I would die running a year ago too! I started losing weight in Sept 08 and I lost the weight by counting calories and working out. I weigh all my foods and plan 90% of my meals in advance. You can PM me if you want more details. As for the running I started running in Dec 09 using the C25K program and ran my 1st 5K in Feb 09.
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
Since then I've entered a more races a couple of 5K's, 2 10K's and one 15K. I started training for the 1/2 marathon using this training plan: http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm I just repeated most of the weeks since I trained for 22 weeks.
Before losing the weight I ran when I was in the Army from 97-01 but I HATED running back then, I think it was because I had to do it not because I wanted to do it. But now I LOVE it, the training is still hard, but the races are so much fun. There is something about having an event/goal that really keeps me motivated.
Don't be scared to give it a try, you can do it too! The 1st 5K I finished on the treadmill without stopping to walk took me 39min 02sec. Last week I did my best treadmill time 26min 12sec :D
Congrats! Such a huge accomplishment. Do you think you ever want to run a full? (I asked my sister this after her first 1/2 and her response was "no f***ing way!" haha)
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: Mile 12 was killer yesterday I couldn't imagine doing that whole run over again...arrh Can I do a full most likely (at a much slower pace), do I want to do a full??? Right now no but never say never right :dizzy:

Yes, it as a marvelous feeling Tibouchina! One of the best things I like about running is that it's you against the clock. How exciting that you are doing a full next year. Have you decided which one? Have you decided which training program you are going to follow? Good luck, what a fantastic journey!
I must say a full does sound appealing but this is the 1st time since starting this journey that I don't have another fitness goal lined up. I'm conflicted about where to go from here. I like running, I like lifting weights, I've thought about doing a figure competition or maybe trying a sprint triathlon. I'm on vacation this week and I'm taking a week off from working out. I need some time to think about what's next.

Very well done - congratulations!
I have not run in years, but I did run a marathon in college - a big mistake I made was not to have a plan in place to sustain my metabolism after the race. I lowered my exercise levels so much afterward (& not my caloric intake) that it was the beginning of my weight gain - totally my fault, of course, but something to keep in mind.
I'm thrilled for you! (And if you decide a marathon is in your future, I have no doubt that you can do it, & do it well!)

PammyFl & Hamoco350 thanks so much  Over a year ago I found 3FC and thought WOW look at what these women are doing on here, I hope I can do it to. I did and so can YOU!

Thanks bcort and excellent point! This past month I haven't lost any weight I've been maintaining because all these long runs make me HUNGRY and it's not always the same day sometimes my appetite is voracious 2-3 days afterwards.
Starting next week (I'm on vacation this week and I'm not worried about working out or calories, sometimes you need to do that) I will have to have to lower my calories again but that's okay I'm going do it slowly drop maybe 200 per week until I see the scale move down again. I've been eating on avg 2500 cal per day the past 4 weeks or so, plenty of room to move down again.
Thank for looking out ;)

Wow! You look amazing, what an inspiration you are!! Congrats on the Marathon I have to admit you are exactly where I want to be in a year. Right now I can run 5 minutes at a time it has taken me 3 months to get to that point I hate to run, but I want to run so badly I just keep at it. Thank you for the inspiration!! I would love to pm you about your eating habits if that were ok?
Congrats to you, I am sure you are so so proud!!

I haven't decided which one yet. I'm thinking of doing one in a foreign country to make it that much more exciting :) Maybe Germany or Italy or Ireland...
Otherwise, I might do the full version of the half I did. It was so much fun, and the first half is downhill, so that would help. I am still just so amused that they give everyone who finishes a bag of potatoes, among other goodies (it WAS Idaho, after all). I love it!
I need to find the website for the training plan I was considering. I don't think I will do it for at least 7-9 months, so I have time. Right now Im working on the Couch to 5K so I can start jogging my 5Ks more.
A figure competition or sprint triathlon would be awesome! Good luck with whatever you choose. A tri of some sort is in my sights too.
Yay for you!

daniela, Wow!!! Thanks for sharing this. I checked out your blog and the progress photos and I am bowled over!! :spin: You have come FAR!! You give me inspiration too because I have been stuck at a point of non-belief for years now. I cannot imagine myself having a lean, thin body, at all! I just can't. I do a lot of weight training and somehow the feeling of strength and the muscle has me believing (rock hard belief too) that I can never look lean. Though your weight training is probably different, I just love seeing how you have become quite the athlete. Thank you again and best of luck with everything !!
