G'day all,
New thread, end of yet another working week:cp:
The housekeeping staff where I stay must think I am totally weird:dizzy: The standard is still pretty average.
The apartment we are in now has a huge balcony which is great but.....the floors above tend to think it is just a gigantic ashtray:mad: Especially after the weekend our balcony is disgusting. I asked for a broom and received a dustpan and small handbrush. Because housekeeping is so bad, it was agreed they would come in once a week and do a thorough job.
Yesterday I sent an email (after the 'thorough' clean) for the kitchen floor to be swept and washed, the cooktops to be cleaned and the balcony to be swept and cigarette buts to be disposed of. I also again asked for a broom and said I was hppy to sweep the balcony myself after the weekend. When I came home last night, most of my requests were attended to and I got yet another dustpan and handbroom:sp: :spin:
I do not believe that they placed another dustpan etc right next to the one that was already there, they must think we are a bit kinky:D
So this morning I will try and find some clipart for a broom with a long handle, which is what I would like and email it.
Talking about having to draw pictures, honestly at times I feel I might as well give up.
The following was emailed to me this morning, the question is are you investing your money wisely??????
If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would
> now be worth $49.00.
>
> With Enron, you would have $16.50 of the original $1,000.00.
>
> With Worldcom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
>
> If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser (the beer, not the stock)
> one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the 10 cent
> deposit, you would have $214.00.
>
> Based on the above, the current investment advice is to drink heavily and
> recycle.
Have a great weekend all, best go and find a picture of a broom!!!!!
Cheers
Maria

Maria,
I had a little money in a part of our stock market But last week removed it. I was scard that the little money would turn into no money. I should have done it after Sept 11 because I took a big hit . It grew a little not much so decided to take it out
Your housekeeping staff must be really really bad. I know one year when we had taken vacation in Florida. We stayed at one of those extended stay places . They only did a thorough cleaning once a week and refreshed the rooms one other time during the week. I swear they never cleaned the kitchen floor. It was filthy. I finally got down on my hands a knees with a rag and showed them how it should have been cleaned. Needless to say we haven't been back and we did some loud complaining , management referred us to corporate leval an we never heard back.
Speaking of hosekeeping i ve got lots to do . I'll see you later.

Maria what a hassle over getting a broom. I would think that would be a simple thing to request. And yucky old cigarette ashes on your balcony. That is sort of careless on the people above you. You know I have always wondered about hospitals. They come in and clean {?} your room and the water always looks dirty, at least to me it does. Sort of makes you wonder about all the staph infections lately. We have 2 friends that have been having a time with staph after having surgery. Had the best salad at Panera Bread Co yesterday. It had strawberries, blueberries, mandarin oranges and walnuts. Have to go do some running. Errands not real running. lol

Just a quick note. I am wondering if any of you are going through the doldrums of summer. After our bad scare with the cancer test at the first of the week, we went out to celebrate and didn't know what to do. We ate at Chili's and saw a really bad movie, "Reign of Fire." It is too hot to work out in the yard and everything on tv is reruns. So, this weekend we will go to OKC to a mall, eat out and see a movie, NOT "AUSTIN POWERS". I just don't remember being so bored before in July.

Glenda this is a hot summer and slow. We usually go somewhere and have no plans. A friend has just been diagnosed with lung cancer. He is a heavy smoker and a girl on another thread that I belong to - her little one has just been diagnosed with some kind of cancer. It is just depressing. My dh was sick with something yesterday-some 24 hour thing. My son and dil are running out of health insurance money for their fertility treatments. They have a cap on it. I know I sound like a country song.

Is this what they call the 'dog days of summer'? Glenda- I hear the new movie with Tom Hanks and Paul Newman is very good. We hardly ever do movies.
We have had a thunder storm every day this week. I just keep shutting down the power on the computer Sure don't want to get it zapped.
Tomorrow is weigh-in for me. The first since we were away. Now will come the moment of truth. Hope I can face it. See you tomorrow. Ann

G'day all,
Ann a thunderstorm everyday, wow! I enjoy a bit of a storm but every day....... I hope your weigh in went allright.
Sorry to hear of your rather depressing news Peggy You made me smile when you said 'I know I sound like a country song'! Your health is certainly your most valued asset.
Last night I watched a 'documentary' on Jerry Springer (I know I was kinda desperate :D) I didn't realise he was the mayor of your city at one stage and was a newsreader on your local TV. Ah... the drivel that I pick up at times:dizzy:
Now Slavika what is happening to the Canadians at the Commonwealth Games? At the moment we are 10 medals ahead of you! Because of the time difference all the events are on during 'our' night :( I am looking forward to the swimming and the netball. We saw ds new/old girlfriend in the opening ceremony and saw a little of one of the netball matches. The main threat to a gold medal in the netball is New Zealand and Jamaica. I am surprised netball is not played that much in Canada.
Off to the chiro again this morning. I am booked in for 2 treatments a week until the end of September. It seems a little over the top but this guy is excellent and I am finding my back is improving heaps. Usually about now I feel I have had enough but this time I thought I would follow the chiro's advise and continue on with the treatments.
I am doing a lot of stretching excercises and can now really understand the benefit of Yoga. Do any of you do Yoga?
Have a great day/night all,
Cheers

that Jerry Springer was once the mayor here. He wasn't a bad newscaster. He always had a commentary at the end which was interesting. He wasn't too bright when he paid a prostitute with a check and got caught. Felt sorry for the wife. He could be on his own show. Charles Manson lived here for a while too when he was young. Such claims to fame. On the other hand Andy Williams and Doris Day lived here. The Clooney family grew up just across the river. George's dad has a morning radio show. He was a newsman here too. I used to do yoga. I loved it and don't know why I stopped. Oh yes I do, my teacher died. I was thinking of getting a video but I don't think that would be quite the same. Ann hope your weigh in went well. Wish we would have some of that rain. I watched the Trading Spaces marathon over the weekend. Have any of you ever seen it? It's on the Learning Channel. It's where two sets of friends trade rooms and decorate with a designer. Oh the colors they use! :dizzy: And the stuff they do. It is entertainment and escapism. Well I have an exciting book waiting for me, at least I hope it is.

Hi: I am happy to say that my weigh-in was not as dreadful as I thought. I am up only 1.6 from when we left for our trip. So now to get that off as well as the rest of my over goal weight.
How about the miracle of the rescue of the trapped miners in Pa.?
Just think after all that time and they were all in quite good health. who says there aren't miracles today?
Maria: I find those stretching exercises to be good for the back. I have also found that going to my massage therapist has helped me a lot. I have joined a pool exercise group now and there are a lot of stretching exercises in the routine. I sure know I couldn't do any of the stuff on dry land. I'l fall right over.:lol:
After we moved here we found out that we live in the lightning capital of the world. How about that? What a distinction.!!!!
but that is no worse than Jerry Springer.
Karen: We talked about exercise yesterday, but had a bit of fun, when our leader was asking about calorie burning exercises and one gal spoke up and said sex. That got a good laugh.
Hi Lily, Glenda, Peggy,Slavika, Trudy Hope you have had a good week-end, and hope I haven't forgotten anyone. Ann

Maria: Cant believe they cant give you a decent broom. Hope they get it with a picture :) Jerry Springer was a Mayor?????
Peggy: That salad sounds yummy. Heard Pandera's is good. But we dont have one here. Sorry to hear about your friend. Thats so sad. Charles Manson. Oh man he scares me. I didnt know Jerry was a mayor before. :fr:
Ann: Good for you! Thats not bad at all for a vacation! One person brought that up in one of the mmetings I did last week. Was pretty funny. :joker:
Glenda: No I dont get the summer doldrums. I love summer. Hate to see it go away. Spring and Summer are my favorite times. We dont go out to much to movies. We always wait for them to come out on Video. Don tblame you for not wanting to see Austin powers. :sp: Dh likes them but I leave the room.
Have a great night! :cb:

Just had to let you all know of a wonderful find Leon and I made over the weekend. Told you we were bored and hot, so we went to Oklahoma City on Saturday and ate steak out (rarely do that) and went to a movie that wasn't playing in our town. It was "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." It was the funniest, cleanest, bestest movie I have seen in years and no one has heard of it except by word of mouth. The theater was full and we just belly-laughed. Worth seeing BEFORE the video comes out. Just so real and FUNNY!

Ann What a miracle that was the miners having been rescued with no life lost, nothing short of amazing:) Your weigh in was pretty good, well done!
Not feeling the best this morning, my back and knee are pretty bad after my chiro appointment yesterday. Everything was going along quite well until yesterdays appointment. Perhaps it has to get worse before it gets better :(
Never heard of the movie Glenda but I share your sentiments, isn't it nice to see just a fun movie without the violence, bad language etc.
Have a great day all

 Hi Everybody
Ann gosh you did very well at your weigh in. Here I am still carrying around the weight I gained when I went away last February. :(
Glenda I don't go to many movies, but I will have to look and see if that one is playing anywhere in our city. I have to admit I never heard of it. Glad you had a fun day with your DH. :) Maria sorry that you are feeling sore. I have never had anything done by a chiropractor. My son goes sometimes and the doctor works on his neck. It seems he might feel good for awhile and then he has to go again. We spent the weekend at the lake and had a nice time. Today I did laundry and cleaned up the house and we will leave in the morning for our little "mini" holiday with my brother and his wife. We get back on Thursday and on Friday night we are going to see a musical production that is performed outside (so I hope the weather is nice). I think on Saturday we will head out to the lake again, as it is another long weekend for us. Boy the summer is just speeding by. Soon it will be fall and the children will be back in school. Talk to you all later. :)

G'day all,
Well not much news but I must tell you about the most spectacular site out of our office window.....3 whales are frolicking in the harbour, just out the front of the Sydney Opera House!!!!
A large crowd is watching from the Opera House and a large number of boats are around the area where the whales are.
We can see their tails popping up every now and again.
I'll wander down to the Opera House at lunch time and see if I can get a closer look.
I hope you are all having a great day

Now I will have to see if it is still around and drag dh to it. No matter how hot it gets I still like spring summer and fall. Winter just seems too long.

G'day all,
The whales have returned to sea. Their romp in the harbour was extensively reported on in our news services. It is believed that 2 were mating , no-one is too sure what the third one was there for. :D
It is a rare thing for them to come into the harbour.
The part of the harbour where I live (Darling Harbour) there is an International boat show this weekend. All is in readiness and we can see all the boats from our apartment. None in our prize range:rolleyes:
We are having friends over for the weekend, they are returning to Adelaide on Tuesday. I have decided to take Monday off work. DH has a meeting in Melbourne and will have to leave Sundaynight:( . It will be nice to see some familiar faces from home.
Slavika have a fun 'little' holiday!

What in the world is going on here? Where is everybody? Are we all so listless we can't reply or maybe just too busy out in the summer air. I am having some fits at work with my new boss who isn't even here until next week. He is such a pain! He is technology-military-CPA guru--a true "bean counter" who is so anal it hurts! Just hope I can please him! My 2-month pregnant dil is having her ultrasound today. Didn't know they did them so early! They are excited. How is everybody doing on the diet front? All I have done all summer is hold the line. Still have 10 pounds to go, but just can't get "with it".

G'day all,
We will just have to talk amongst ourselves Glenda:D
Your post did bother me a bit regarding your new boss, sure you have to do the right thing but please yourself before anyone else! You did paint a very vivid picture of him and he would be just my type to put right back in his box.
I am sure you will be able to handle him and won't allow him to bully you.
I am not very familiar with ultra sounds, we never had them when I was having children. They seem to be doing them now as standard procedure. How exciting for them though to be able to see the baby so early in the pregnancy.
The diet front:dizzy:   :dz:  , did these smilies tell you anything? Seriously, I have no scales and can only go by my clothes, they all still fit some a little looser so I guess I must be in a holding pattern! The good thing is that I am very much aware and try and make the right choices whenever I possibly can.
Well it is another Friday morning, we are having a busy weekend with friends staying till Tuesday. The only thing planned is going to the football on Saturday. The wife has chronic fatigue syndrome which I always thought was a bit of a joke or a cop out until I have seen close up how she suffers. It is a **** of a life and for one outing she can spend the rest of the week in bed unable to move. She certainly has a severe strain of this disease and has had it for over 20 years. She has been everywhere, including having her blood replaced twice in the hope of a cure. Of course for her husband it is also very hard. Makes you realise how lucky you are.
Hi to everyone and have a great weekend,

Another great Florida day. I don't think it has been as warm here as in lots of other places.
Have joined a water aerobics class and am enjoying it very much. Lots of good exercises.
Maria: thought of you yesterday as we watched a travelogue about Austrailia, and expecially all the view of Sydney The Opera house, and the harbor and the bridge, and the beaches. What a view you have from your home. Glad you will be seeing old friends. That Chronic fatigue syndrome is certainly a mystery. A very difficult way to live.Did all the whales beaching themselves here in Cape Cod Massachusetts make your news. About forty of them. Many volunteers working to keep them wet and cool until the tide come in to float them off. A major effort. And 9 of them died. What unique animals.
I hope that the Greek Wedding film will soon come out on Video. That will probably be the oly way I'll get to see it. One of our movie complexes closed and so we have to drive quite a ways to see a movie. That doesn't appeal to my dh at all.:(
I'm hoping that my next weigh in will reflect some of the extra exercise I've been doing.:dizzy:
Hi Glenda: I don't like the sound of your new boss at all. Ditto Marias' advice. Don't let him bully you. Often people like that respect people who won't let them run all over them. Hope is is one of those.
Hi, Lily, Peggy, Slavika on your mini-trip. Hope you all have a good week-end.

Hi girls, There is not much going on here. It has been so hot that I have been doing as little as possible. I keep playing with the same 4 lbs over and over and over. Now it is time to serious. This summer is going so fast. Ann those beached whales were something else, weren't they? I just checked the paper and the Greek Wedding movie is gone. Will have to catch it at the video store. I was hoping it was still around. They keep all the stupid movies around forever. Glenda I just read a book that took place in Oklahoma. It was The Honk and Holler Opening Soon by Billie Letts. It was cute-a good summer read. You boss sounds like a pain. Wonder what he will be like when he does get there. Is the Austin's mom who is pregnant? I must have missed something somewhere along the way. As far as I know my son and dil are not having any luck. I don't ask anymore. She is having such a hard time with it. Finally have my dh starting my secret garden in the back. Instead of a deck we are making an enclosure of sorts with a stone and brick patio. Live on a corner and want some privacy since all the pine trees died and had to have them taken down. He is just loving working out in the hot and humid weather. Right now there are just 4x4 posts planted. It does get wierd looks from people going by. Oh well, gotta get ready for the morning walk,

Peggy - No, Austin's mom isn't pregnant, Thank GOD! He does need a bit of time to be the baby. No, my older son who is the lawyer after 2 bad marriages who is married for the third time is the one who will be the father. He has 2 and she has 2 so this will be #5. Aren't they brave? But they are so crazy about each other and wanted their own child. He told me this one he won't have to let go at 6 p.m. on Sunday night. Love my other grandsons so much, but Joel has had such a history with psycho women! Anyway, we are so happy that he found a normal, really nice, girl. I love your secret garden concept. Please describe it some more. Sounds intriguing. Well, Monday is D-Day. Hope I can handle this new guy or just stay out of his way as much as possible. See you. Glenda

I was just out staining lattice and it got too hot. I am soaking wet and have sweat running in my eyes and now they burn. I look so pretty.:D Glenda we used to have 5 pine trees growing on the side street side and they died last year. We had a sort of raised deck and we took it down. That spot has looked barren for a year. I saw a picture in a book and we are sort of copying that. The street side is lattice about 8 feet high and comes around the corner. Then there is an opening and has a lattice corner on the the other side. He has a lot of brick so he is going to put the floor in with brick and stone. I don't have a clue-all I can say is that I will stay out of his way when he does that. He gave me a chiminea for our anniversary and I that is going in one of the corners. I am going to grow some kind of pretty vine up the street side and I have a climbing rose to move there. Hard to describe but that is the idea. Sort of make it up as we go along.

for a while. Had a lot on my mind. My DD marriage is in trouble and Have been on pins and needles waiting to see what is going to happen. The pair finally had a god talk and have decided to go to counseling. I am releived to hear that . Most times people give up to easily. Now I just hope both cooperate. there are two wonderful kids involved and I would hate to see them have their home broken up.:(
On a happier note I should thank Slavika and Trudy for the wonderful weather they sent down to us here in Minnesota. yesterday and today have been beautiful. My windows have been open for 2 days now and even the cat is happily running from window to window to bask in the sunshine.:D
Did I tell you all that I was asked to become a Leader Mentor for new WW leaders. I will have to go to training for it in November but am looking forward to it.
Peggy your garden sounds wonderful What a great idea I wonder if we could do that we live on a very busy road and don't have much a back yard so we are always out front for every thing. And the whole world can drive past and galk at us. Going to talk to DH about that . Thanks for the idea! ;)
Maria I've never seen whales in the ocean . Only at a zoo or such. I really envy you your view. I think I read that you said DS and EX are finally getting along. No more fighting? Right Good!
Glenda hope all goes well on Monday with your new boss. I don't deal real well with change myself. Some times I just grit my teeth and go on. Seems like every thing always works out. Good Luck
Ann water aerobics What a great idea. That is wondrful exercise and the water is so refreshing when it is so warm out side. I've thought about it myself.

 Hi Everybody Ok, gals, here I go again. On Tuesday, when we left on our little holiday it was my birthday. DH gave me a kiss and card with the instructions I was to buy myself some little "trinket" while we were away. My brother and SIL were also going on holiday with us but in there own car. On Wednesday the "boys" went golfing and SIL and I went in search of some special little thing I would like to have. Well I bought a a ton of stuff for the Princess whose birthday is at the end of the month, and for our grandson too, his birthday is in October, but I just couldn't find anything I really wanted. I think sometimes you see something you like when you aren't looking. :)
Glenda I think the doldrums can strike us in any season. Somedays I think "woe is me", and I have no idea why. This can go on for a couple of days, then I bounce back. I have no idea why I get like that, and why suddenly it goes away. I do love summer the best of all seasons, and dislike winters the most. On Monday, do not let your boss intimidate you in any way. You both have jobs to do and the work will go much smoother if you EACH respect the other. I hope it all works out for you.
Talking about the whales, they certainly are beautiful mysterious creatures. Lily and I both saw lots of them in Hawaii. I don't understand why they "beach" in groups like that. Ann were there any theories as to why the whales beached. I know a long time ago it was thought that if a whale was dying she would come to shore and other whales would join her in her last hours and also end up beached. I don't know if that theory is still a valid one or not. Maria you sure are fortunate working where you do and having such a great view of so many interesting things. :) Peggy that program "Trading Spaces" is one of my favorites too. I tape a whole weeks worth and then try to find time on the weekend to watch the tape. I am hours behind, but they are likely re-runs now any way. Some of the things those designers come up with I just can't believe. YIKES! LOL
Karen sorry to hear that your DD and husband are having trouble, but happy that they are getting counselling. I hope that they can work things out. I think with everybody being so busy these days that "couples" don't get much chance to just be alone like they were in the beginning. A very good friend of mine used to book a hotel in a town not to far from where they lived, and her and her husband would take off, go out to dinner, then to their hotel and return the next day. She would get her Mother to babysit their three boys for the night. They didn't go to an expensive hotel in those days, because they didn't have the money, but she said they really enjoyed that special time together. I think they likely did that every three months or so.
Well everybody this post is not as good as the one I lost. My other one was truly brilliant. :p
Night all.

Slavika I believe you. I am sure the original post was brilliant.:D Why is it that when you go to buy something you can't find the right thing but when you are just browsing you see lots of things? It will be forever a mystery. Speaking of mysteries we were in the back yard last night staining the lattice. We saw the dog run towards something and all of a sudden a big ugly old crow fell about 50 feet out of a tree. It was dead. It was too wierd. I was glad we saw it or I would have thought the dog did it. We got rid of but now I am hoping it didn't have that West Nile virus. There was another crow up there sqauking and carrying on. Karen I glad that your dd and her dh are going to counseling. That is a wise thing to do. Hope it all works out for them and their kids. I am sure it is stressful for you too. Slavika wouldn't you just die if Genevieve did a room for you? I like her but some of the stuff she does is just too over the top for me. I was trying to think who I would like to a room for me. Did you see the one where the lady just sobbed because she hated it? They have a web site and it tells about some of the places they have done. INteresting reading. Glenda good luck Monday with the new boss. Maybe he will calm down once he is in place. Remember - deep breaths, deep breaths. We are leaving in the morning for a 2 day casino trip. I am sure I will millions on the nickle machines.
See you all Tuesday,

Peggy: Great site! Anns gonna love it with all the theme partys she does! :)
Karen: Sorry to hear about your DD troubles. Glad they are going to counseling, and hope they work it out. You will be great as a Mentor! Congrats! I wish I could of had you as mine. Mine was absoluletly horrible. She would not let me do anything but WI people. Didnt teach me the front desk or the tally. Had to learn it when I went to do real meetings. I have had a lovely weekend and I am back at work today. DS's girlfriend was part of the Australian Netball team who won GOLD at the Commonwealth Games. It was a really exciting match making it even better when someone you have known since she was 12 (now 27) was part of the winning team.
You mentioned 'Trading Places' we have the same program but called 'changing rooms'. It sounds like your designers come up with equally as many weird and wonderful things like they do here. I enjoy watching it, I think the designers are just so creative but at times they really do go over the top and I am glad it is not my room they are 'transforming'.
Having you all talk of the heat doesn't make me look forward to summer....almost spring for us, unbelievable.
Sorry to hear about your dd and her dh Karen, do we ever stop worrying about our children? My ds and his ex have come to an agreement with the splitting up of their assets but the ex is still having a lot of difficulty coming to terms with what has happened. I am glad I wrote her a long letter (which ds said she really appreciated) it is better than talking over the phone at the moment.
Yes we did see the 'beached whales' on our news. They are a different specie to the ones we had here in the harbour. The ones we saw here were the Great Southern Whales.
Next Saturday I am doing the first of 2 full days of learning more about 'Dreamweaver' (webdesign software) really looking forward to that.
Also belated good wishes for your birthday Slavika
I must be off, enjoyed reading all the posts.
Cheers

Hi Everybody
Looks like everybody has been really busy...not many posts. Of course I can't remember anything from the previous threads, and can't see them now. We went to the lake over the long weekend and then yesterday drove out to see an Aunt and Uncle of mine who live in a small town about 3-1/2 hours (by car) away from us. It was their 64th Wedding Anniversary. My Uncle is 90 and my Aunt is 83. They live in lovely senior's Condo with a shopping mall right next door to them. DH had to make a business trip to one of the car dealers so I went along especially so I could see them. I really enjoyed my visit with them and I know they were pleased I had come. The only thing was, they didn't have their air conditioner turned on and it was so hot in there I thought I was going to die. It reminded me of the Seinfeld show where Elaine is with Jerry visiting his parents in Florida and they didn't even know how to turn the air conditioner on, because they never felt the need to and Elaine was dying from the heat. :D Going there and back in the same day was a really long trip but I am happy I went. :) We had a great time at the lake. Our grandkids were "tubing" and knee boarding along with other kids, so that is always fun to watch. On Sunday we had ton of King Crab Legs for supper (except DH, he had lobster) and were they ever good. Our grandson got sick from them almost immediately after eating them (that is the second time) so we are certain he is allergic to them. DIL says she will have him tested, but we all think he likely is. Fortunately his throat does not swell up or anything like that, just very sick to the stomach.....spending time with his poor little head over the toilet bowl. :(
Well that's all my news for now............
