I thought I would have fun and start a challenge. This year I'll give myself a present for Valentine's - a better me! Want to join me?
You can participate in several ways. You can go by pounds lost. Amount of exercise done. Sizes dropped. Make your own fitness goal - just name it here and report weekly.

I want to be 135 lbs by V-Day!! :D I've been having some difficulty losing lately, so I'll really have to work my butt off and be completely on plan if I even want a chance of making it. I know I can do it though!! 1.3lbs a week, or 23.4lbs lost by Valentines Day is my goal.

Starting weight is 230. Ultimate goal, well for this challenge anyway. Onderland. If I can hit that, it'll be the lowest I've been in years. I'm not asking much. Just your typical 2 lbs a week. I don't think I've been 180 since beginning highschool, and I'd really like to get below that before my college graduation in May. I'm currently 212, so that's about 1.75 pounds a week. I've been dieting almost 6 weeks. I haven't weighed myself (chicken-livered, I know, but I knew I'd get hung up on the number) and so far I've gone down about a dress size. A pair of slacks I bought that originally demanded extreme upper body strength to fasten them are now quite comfy and have some give in the legs and seat now. So that's good. I'm thinking 7 to 10 pounds a month, more or less.
I'm about a 14 now- was a 16 and still wear a couple 16s I have that are cut well and look nice when loose.
My wedding anniversay is just after Valentine's day so mid Feb is a perfect "landmark date" for me. I'm thinking maybe about 30 more pounds by then and would maybe be between a 10 and a 12. This wouldn't be my goal weight/size but would make a great mini goal.

I'd like to join in please. This will be my first Challenge on 3FC and I'm really excited. I've only just seen the post so will start from my weigh in last Friday and go to the Friday before Valentines, so 17 weeks for me. I'm going to go for roughly 1.5lbs a week so 26lbs in total which will get me down to 223.5lbs (under 225!) and into the 15 stones for the first time in a LONG time, I think even before I had my DD who is almost 7.

Being realistic in my weight loss expectations has always been really hard for me. I would have to say its my biggest down fall. I set really high and unattainable goals, and when I don't meet them I give up. OR I realize all the hard work that goes into reaching unrealistic goals and give up. I'm determined to make small achievable goals....and start out slow with eating right and exercising and build up.....

My goal is to lose 2 pounds per week. This amounts to cutting 7,000 calories per week from diet or through exercising....which amounts to about 1,000 calories per day.
I plan on cutting 700 per day from my daily calorie intake, and by cutting 300 per day by exercising 30-45 minutes per day.
I will eat 1,500 calories or less per day which will be divided into 3 meals and 2 snacks.
I WILL NOT get greedy and change my goals to unrealistic expectations. Sometimes when I start losing weight...I will lose 3-4 pounds a week for the first few weeks....then I start expecting to lose that much and when I don't I give up. I will stay the course and know that 2 pounds a week is very doable and realistic for me....if I just stick with it. And come Valentine's Day...I will be able to say that I have lost 34 pounds with this challenge and a total of 42 pounds all together!!!

Just checking in. I'm struggling with food, but I did make it to the gym tonight.....I'm going to work harder on the food deal. I'm going to the kitchen right now to fix my lunch for tomorrow so I don' have any excuses tomorrow to fail on the food part. I also have plans to meet a friend at the gym again tomorrow. So I'm hoping for a successful day all around tomorrow.

Aw, thank you, Tibouchina. I think a lot of it just had to do with the amount water I drank the day before. I think it allowed me the chance to drop some of the water I was probably retaining. ^^

Losing4Another and Emiloots - don't worry too much about the weight gain. I know for me, I can fluctuate all the time just due to water. Just keep on truckin and doing good!

Hey McKenziesmomma. Good job on the gym. I've been reading the Beck Diet, and it says to give yourself more credit every day. It helps keep you positive and keep on going when you're not so good. I've been having little bits of food trouble too - ate out last night. And other times during the week. Blah.

My weigh in for the 20th was 158.4 lbs. I'm disappointed because I'd gotten down to 157.4 and maintained it for 3 days. The trouble came when I baked pumpkin cookies. The morning after, I jumped back up a pound! :o However, I'm willing to fight for that lb again. Better luck this week!!!

Hey ladies... I would love to join in!!!! I am hoping to be my goal weight in about 13 weeks, my 30th birthday!!! I need to lose about 1.8 pounds a week.... hopefully that wont be too hard!!! That will put me at my goal on 1/19 and then I want to maintain after.... so I figured this would be a great challenge!! Also I am a little worried that 117 might be too skinny... I haven't been there since I probably about 19 or 20, so my goal weight might change.

I'm so frustrated with myself right now. One week has gone by, and I really didn't accomplish anything. I did go work out one day, but I'm having such a hard time with food. I have planned out my meals and went and got the groceries....but I'm having a hard time sticking to it.
I know I need to make my lunches and snacks the night before, but I don't. I'm wondering if I'm not doing it because of laziness or because I'm burnt out on the food???
This weekend I'm going to try to find some new lunch/snack/supper ideas that are conducive to staying on a budget as well. I think I may try to pack up my lunches for the week all on Sunday evening or something.
any suggestions?

I would LOVE to join! I havnt joined any actual weight loss challenge here so far and think its a wonderful way to stay motivated and get started!
Im going to aim for less than 215! I plan on continuing working out for a hour 6 days a week and counting calories (1200-1500).

Planning is the key to weightloss. We all get lazy and tired sometimes but it is important. Life has to go on you know kids(I have 3), work(part time job here), housework etc etc. but we made a commitment so lets stick to it.
To offer a few ideas/suggestions here it goes
I often pack sandwiches, leftovers, fruits, salads, water for lunch. Snacks are simple fruits, nuts(almonds love 'em), yogurt, crackers, cheese(laughing cow and stringsters mozzarella cheese).
Dinner I try to make easy, fast and nutritious examples are like stir fry's, grilled/baked chicken breast, shrimp, rice, beans, mashed potatoes, pasta, any veggie on hand, salad. Whatever works for your family. Eggs are great for dinner! We do breakfast for dinner sometimes which is great.

Sorry youre having a tough time! What kind of foods are you eating that you're getting bored with? Are you counting calories?
I am counting calories using fitday.com. I also recommend livestrong.com. I actually REALLY like counting calories because I have complete control over what I can eat and my leeway. For example, a couple weekends ago I went to a wedding. They had catered mexican food, so I knew that I was more than likely going to consume mucho calories so I was able to plan a very low calorie breakfast and lunch so when I got to the reception I had enough leeway for mexican. I watched what I ate but I was still able to enjoy it, ya know? I do that day to day also...if I know Im going to have lunch at a friends Im able to arrange to have the calories available. Its a great way to still be able to eat everything you love but monitor the moderation in which youre eating. I obviously try to stay away from high fat, high carb, high sugar foods but I can still enjoy a few things here and there.
Seeing the calories in everything is a REAL eye opener and motivator. I stick to 1200-1500 cals per day and am never starving. It goes a long ways if you feel up on low cal foods such as veggies and salad, etc, before you eat your main course.
I eat ALOT of veggies, turkey sandwhiches, spinach salads with tuna, chicken, fish, beans, more veggies, brown rice, fruits, and breakfast burritos....to name a few.
If you like to cook theres a website, sparkrecipes.com, that has a ton of really yummy healthy dishes you can make and it tells you the calories in everything. If youre making one of your own recipes theres even a calculator to tell you how many cals are in each serving. Its really handy.

Oh! I want to join! Hopefully this goal will help keep me on the wagon through winter (and after my oh-so-motivating vacation next month!). My goal is to run (walk/run at first!) at least 30 minutes 3X per week. I want to keep this up and hopefully run a 5k in the spring! I'm doing C25K now and am on week four so - so far, so good!

So, I think my scale might be broken. I know I've probably lost water weight due to all the walking I did yesterday, but I don't think if I believe that that's my weight. When I went to the doc's office (I think) a week ago it said I was 219 when my scale said a little lower, then again it could be that I had more clothes on at the doc's office. Either way, I know I still need a new scale. XD But I'm catching up!

This week was frustrating. I'm still on track, but when I weighed myself earlier this week I was at 206 so I'm not quite sure where that 1.5 came from....didn't even have Halloween candy yesterday! Oh well, just have to work a bit harder this week.

I need help!!!!!
My weight has not changed because I've been making up for my healthy meals with...beer! I love October beers! I'm not an everyday drinker, but on the weekends I've been overindulging in savory meals and beer.
Anyway, I'm going to the gym tonight to give myself a confidence boost. I've also noticed I didn't lose because I haven't been checking in on this site for support.

I don't know what's going on with my body, on any given day I can be 3+ pounds off of the previous day - I've been a 'daily' weigher for a long time now and have never had this happen. I'm also kicking the Diet Pepsi habit(and anything with artificial sweeteners), so my crutch is gone, 5 days without! Hopefully everything works itself out, got rid of all the halloween candy yesterday, no more pass by and take a piece.

Its been a tough week but Im down 2 pounds. Its TOM and my food hasnt been 100% like it was at the beginning...probably more so because it was my bday and I had a few slips. Ive been working out really hard though so it payed off. Maybe next week I'll have a WHOOSH after TOM goes away! =)

Oooh I just saw this thread.... I had worked out a few days ago that a reasonable goal date for 145 would be right around Valentine's Day (I have my last 14 pounds to lose and it's going slooow lol) so I guess this challenge would be perfect for me to keep me motivated all the way to goal!

Hi ladies, my name is Beverly. This is my first day here. I found the site when I did a search for "is almond milk fattening." I feel I need some support. I've always been self-motivated, but it's been hard the past few years and I've gained weigh more (pun intended) then I ever thought I would. I just sent my son off to college. I'm a single mom and now it's me-time.
I somehow gained 50 lbs over the years, but the past 2-3 put me where I never thought I would be. I've joined an amazing gym in my area. I've been steadily working out since Oct 1. Did have to take a break when I went to visit my son but got right back into it.
I've done many diets that have worked--Atkins works but I always ended up gaining more weight. 6 week body makeover by Michael Thurmond is the best for me by far. My brother is here, and he loves to cook (just like I do) so it's been hard with the food because he's skinny and can eat anything. But maybe it's just time for a challenge. I like that. It motivates me.
Valentines Day, and that is just 3 days before my birthday! That would be the perfect birthday present to myself, a new me. I say yeah, I'm ready. I"m really ready to get this weight off of me and get back into my single digit dresses again.
Right now I'm wearing 12 on top 14 on the bottom. I'm 199 lbs (i don't usually weigh myself), I just go in my closet and try on clothes. My goal is 138 lbs. I'm not sure if that's going to be literal because I have muscle but whether or not it is, that's the weight I'd like to get back to or a size 8, whichever comes first.:) I don't know if I can do that by Valentine's, but I will set a goal for that after I think about that for a little bit.
Question! Where do you get the little goal bar from that shows the starting point.

Thanks Tibouchina. Those early words of support gave me just the juice I needed this morning to get myself motivated and off to the gym. It's the food now I've got to conquer.
For me, I think a reasonable amount for the challenge for me is 25lbs. That is major. The food thing is going to be my menace.

I just joined this community today and was looking around on the message boards to get involved in something that sounds equal parts challenging and rewarding. Bingo! Here it is! What a great idea. :carrot:
So far I've set specific goals for exercise and eating well. I don't exactly have a goal weight in mind, but I will weigh in weekly and aim to lose an average of 1 lb per week. If I meet my weekly exercise and nutritional goals, I'll write "yes," or maybe, "YESSSSSS!!!" if it felt like a special victory. If I slip up and don't meet a weekly goal, I'll write "no," reflect a little on what got in the way and what I could do differently next time.
EXERCISE: At least 5 sessions per week of cardio that also challenges my muscles.
NUTRITION: At least 5 full days of enjoying 6 small, balanced meals throughout the day.
WEIGHT: From a starting point of 160, lose an average of 1 lb per week. BMI is in parentheses.

Oo this sounds perfect!
I'm going to assess this month's goals first and estimate next month's, then reevaluate at the end for adjustments. Goal is to fit into this dress I have hanging in my closet that is a medium in juniors, last time I could fit into it, it was between 140-145.
So for the remainder of the month, my goals include:
- Fixing my horrendous sleep schedule
- Start going back to the gym, go at least 10 times.
- Do my Callanetics DVD once a week. (I did the entirety of it this weekend, yay)
- Biggest thing is.. controlling myself during Thanksgiving break. Enjoying it during thanksgiving, but not giving into binges or mindless eating the days following.

Do you write all your food down? I try to log mine in online daily. It sure affects my choices (most of the time - not perfect yet :P). I can put in calories I ate or potential ones I want to eat, and it makes me stop and think about what I am eating, and I usually adjust to fit within my goal.

Hi guys! I just discovered this thread and I'm in! :-)
I've been losing weight slooooooooowly since I started in August and even when eating and exercising perfectly don't lose much, but I plan to stick with it and average at least 0.5 pound loss on the scale per week. I have no idea what I'm going to weigh once you factor muscle into it, so my goal is more to lose inches by Valentine's, and weigh somewhere around 149-153.

I've changed my goal! Looking back on the last month I realized without exercise I was able to lose almost a lb a week. I've started working out at least 5 days a week, intensely now, and I feel like 1.5lb is a seriously attainable goal. SO! My new Valentines day GW is 136 lbs!! Wish me luck. I'm really going to push myself to get there. :D

On Thursday I was on track with my eating until after dinner when I celebrated my off-day a little too early. I rationalized it as, "Well, I was on track alllll last week, so how horrible can this really be?" I would not want to do this again, especially since the stupid treat didn't even taste as good as hoped.
Overall, I feel a lot better than I did a couple weeks ago. My muscles are toning up nicely and I'm able to keep up with my workouts for longer without getting winded. It's awesome!
This coming week might be tough thanks to Thanksgiving. Let's remember what we're doing this for, stay strong and enjoy the rewards.

Considering it's Thanksgiving week and I had a rare visit with family Weds-Sat, I feel pretty decent that my eating was totally on plan for 3 days. I'm starting to notice that my "on" days feel better than off days. That'll be good to remember next time the gluttony or sloth bugs bite.
Next week, I want to be able to write 2 yeses, and maybe even a loss in poundage. I think I can, I think I can!

UPDATE: I didn't meet my goal this time. I blame about a week of slacking off where I didn't exercise and I ate whatever I wanted (including chinese, pizza, cookies, and a huge plate of stuffing). :o Still a loss though, and only .4 lbs away from this weeks goal! I'll just work twice as hard this following week! :D

If I looked at just the number on the scale, I'd probably feel disappointed since there hasn't been a big change in weight so far. But the scale doesn't know how to measure these really happy changes:
-My muscle mass has increased almost 5 lbs this week
-This week I've lost an average of 0.5% body fat per day
-Pants are starting to get baggy. Hooray!

So I LOVE this challenge for a lot of reasons...the number one reason being that Valentine's Day is my anniversary and I've been slowly losing weight and since June I've been in a rut. I really need to push harder to work this extra fat off my body. :carrot:
I think this is a perfect way to help motivate me into doing it!! :lifter:
So as of my last weigh in I was at 178.4. So from 178.4 I really want to be like 160.0 pounds, but...I do not know if that is realistic. So let's shoot for a smaller goal.

I hope to HIT One-der-land by V-Day! That will be the best Valentine's Day present I could ever give myself! I have to learn to love the transition that my body is making...however slow it may be. Each day I have to get up and say, "Today is going to be an On Plan day." So far, it's working.:carrot:

I havnt been working out 5-6 times a week the past couple weeks like I was doing at the beginning. Ive been working out like 3ish times a week and obviously my new favorite number is 2. BUT I am recommitting myself after finals tomorrow and will be giving 100% until next semesters finals..haha!
I have lost 18 pounds since the beginning of the challenge and couldnt be happier with that! Im just hoping I make it aleast under 220 for V-day! (My goal was 215)

This week was a bit hard, but I really worked hard for those 1.6 pounds so I'm happy with it. I think my body is hitting a plateau so I'm going to have to try to change things up if I want to get to 170 by Valentine's day! But thankfully I'm still on track! :)

Still, I do best with short term goals in mind and I have a celebration with Firends planned for early March, so this fits right in! I will try for 20 pounds by Feb. 14th. Hi everyone! I hope it's not too late for me to join this challenge! What a great inspiration...Valentine's Day! I hope to be in the 160's somewhere in Valentines' day, but ideally, it would be less than 165 lbs.
December 14 186 lbs.
January 14 hope to be 176 lbs.
Feb. 14 hope to be 166 lbs. (or 165, or even less).
I can't WAIT to see those numbers! It's hard to believe that it could happen in such a short amount of time. However, if it doesn't...as long as I'm moving in the right direction and I'm totally focused on my goals and activities, I'll be proud of myself. Thank you!!! :)

Today was an Off Plan day. I got a little head cold, and there wasn't much that I could eat, except chicken noodle soup and broth. I know that I'm retaining fluid....my whole body feels heavier...bummer. I'll be glad when I get better, so that I can get myself back on track!

Hi Everyone! This is a great challenge. I just joined and foundout that I was too late for the Christmas and Years End Challenges. I am going to lose 2 pounds per week. That's pretty agressive for me, since I lose extremely slowly. I am coming upon my 55th birthday on Feb 21st! I would love to look Va-Va Voomish for my 55th!

Hope everyone had a happy holiday! My plan was to maintain over this week, so I'm happy to see a loss! This upcoming week I'm going to go on vacation with a group of my friends and I know they plan on pigging out the entire time, so it'll truly be a test for me! Just have to keep reminding my self that I am 1.4 lbs away from a 50 lbs loss! Can't believe it!

Thank goodness we made it through the holidays! Suddenly this far-off date feels very close.
Dunno about you, but I'm feeling sluggish and bloated after a long weekend of gluttony and sloth. I'm sure the weight I lost this week was muscle mass I'd rather hold on to, not the chub I'm trying to get rid of. Very much looking forward to getting back into my self-care routines this week.
