Good Morning everyone.

I saw this article as I was sitting here drinking my coffee and thought it would also make a great Question of the day so....
QOTD:
How Does your exercise enviroment influence your Work-out (http://exercise.about.com/b/2009/10/09/how-does-your-exercise-environment-influence-your-workouts.htm)

I have to say for me, YES! I know when I work out at home I am more inclined to give up easier when things get challenging but for some reason, the whole routine of putting my hair in a pony-Tail, putting on the GYM clothes, and actually carrying my behind there, then working out with other's in the building really makes me focus more and work-out harder. What about you???

I'll check in later peeps!
Everyone have a Great day!!!

Hey blues ~ just got home from my 1st ever bootcamp exercise thingy. I am SOOO FRIGGIN OUTTA SHAPE. I dont know how people do it. I seriously could not do one more squat or curl or leg lift. My body stopped working like 1/2 way through each exercise. What gives? I guess I just keep showing up and it will get better. God, I hope so! Also thinking it will lead to a good weigh in next week as I haven't pushed myself at exercise in months. We'll see!

Hang in there girly and keep at it, the more you do it the easier it'll get and the more you'll be able to do!!!! I have faith in ya!

On a happy note...I have gone down a point on my waist to hip ratio! Yay! Now I just need to do that 6 more times to be at a healthy weight, so says Jillian :)
YAY!!!! WTG!!!!! :carrot: Can you tell me how to measure that please???

Yes I know exactly what you mean. I've battled being overweight since puberty and I'm now 4. Sometimes, I get really tired of the constant struggle with my mind, but the alternative isn't something I can live with. I refuse to settle for being fat. Therefore, I keep trying. Hang in there. Others have conquered this and we can too.

Rhonda is exactly right! keep on striving for greatness and healthy lifestyles girls! We can do this!!! lets ROCK Week 5!!!!!

that's awesome!! well done! :bravo:

Here's to starting over again. Had a horrible weekend. Just couldn't/didn't stop eating crap. It was like it was calling to me constantly. I'm really getting tired of the yo-yoing up and down but then on the other hand maybe I don't want it bad enough. It's like I really love it when I am doing what I am suppose to be doing, I feel happy and confident that I can do it and the Wham! I sabotage myself by going totally off plan. Then I get depressed and start to think I am never going to do this. Alright I'm done with the pity party. Hopefully today will be better.

brand new week!! with lots of possibilities!! you can do it ! :cheer3: you just keep getting back on that wagon of yours :cb:

about this weeks challenge. do we have any takers??

i was trawling through old challenges from the blue team, and i found this interesting one!! check it out. what do you guys think?? sounds kinda fun!

http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/biggest-loser-challenges/163706-blue-team-i-dare-you-thread.html

me4life = hey bluesers,
i'm starting an i dare you thread. basically the first person (that would be me) dares anyone on the blue team to do something (say 10 push-ups) whoever does it first reports that they did it and puts down another dare (say running in place 5 minutes). the idea here is little things do add up, so get creative with your dares and keep them on a smaller scale so everyone can play. (means don't dare them to go to a zumba class when not everyone has access to something like that...ok that would be me to)
__________________

i'll start....i dare you to do 10 push-ups and 10 crunches

we can also include non exercise dares, like drink half a litre of water.

do we have any volunteers for doing the challenge this week ? its already tuesday, and would be nice if we got a jump start on this :)

any takers??

great article!! nice question of the day. i like to workout on my own, as i see it as ME time. i heard jillian speak about how you shouldnt see exercise as a chore, but a time for you to have abit of ME time and take care of yourself an your body, a time when you can just be with yourself. abit of pampering. i like to workout to p90x workout videos and i like going running outside when its a nice day. i'd like to join a gym, but cant afford it at the moment, but i can imagine that i probably would push myself harder if i am surrounded by other people working out.

I'm happy to have you start a new challenge thread, Echo. That's one vote: yes :)

I had a bunch of quotes done but lost them all...sigh...that's the world of computers as I know them. :D

So I guess I'll start fresh on week 5.

QOTD:
How Does your exercise environment influence your Work-out?

I think that when I'm exercising at home I have to make a very conscious effort to finish what I've started. There are so many distractions at home. For instance yesterday I was riding my exercise bike and DH called out for a garbage bag. He was cleaning the furnace and needed me to bring it downstairs. As this was a legitimate request I jumped off the bike and got the garbage bag. I had 5 minutes left to make an hour and I could have easily told myself that 55 minutes was just as good. To my credit, I got back on the bike and finished the hour. If I'd been in a gym I wouldn't have the household distractions.

I also like to walk outside. I find that once I'm outside I'm determined to finish the course I've mapped out. I'm competitive with myself on this one.

Here's to a great week 5. I know the weekend wiped out some of you. But one day doesn't make a failure. I had one off day with our family Thanksgiving dinner where I ate and ate. But even though I ate twice as much as I would normally do (that's not an exaggeration, btw) I ate fairly healthy food, except for the pie and ice cream. I didn't eat enough to gain a pound and I enjoyed my food. Next day I was back on plan and I don't feel guilty about enjoying a good meal with family and friends. So if you had a day or two of eating off plan don't despair. Life has to be lived with other people and sometimes that means getting off plan once and a while.

I think the more we eat healthy foods and make it a habit every day that the days we take a "vacation" from our plan we'll find we are actually making healthier choices with the "bad" foods. We may be eating more foods but those foods will be healthier than what they would have been say a year or two ago. And if we slip those healthier foods into the family eating plan over a period of time then our families will be eating better, too. I only make one meal. Everyone eats it or makes their own. I seldom have dissenters.

Anyhoo, I'm off on my walk in a few minutes, the first walk since Thursday. The rain has stopped, the sun is shining and Isabella has got an itch to walk outside.

Catch you all later.

Hi Blue Team! I know you are probably more worried about what happened to Dixie than where your results are, but I keep a spread sheet of both teams' stats, so if you like I can give you the "unofficial" results for your team for the last two weighins. I just thought I'd offer, feel free to simply ignore me! ;)

My legs are pissed at me today (bootcamp) but I am down a lb already. On track to eat right today, and just hoping my body can hold out for night 2. Thanks for the encouragement girls!

QOTD: It is obvious that I need to be in a group setting. I can go home and walk the dog but really don't push myself to do much more. Last night (even the cute little instructor had to hold my leg in the air) I pushed myself. Home distractions kill my workout mojo, and if it isn't a family member, then I FIND a distraction (laundry, dishes, phone, vacuuming) and !poof! its too late to work out. So group for me baby!

Hope you al have a great Tuesday!

Me too Diva. I find it harder to sustain a workout if I am in my living room with my couch looking so comfy right behind me. If I get out the door and go walk, I am out of my comfort zone and push myself harder. It's very easy to turn off the video, I can't just quit in the middle of my walk, because I have to get home somehow.

On a happy note, the scale is being my friend again. 175.0 this morning! that's down from 176.4 yesterday! Not sure how, but I'll take it!

YUP YUP! DITTO what you said! I feel the same way about home workouts. I can do them and I have lots of stuff, DVD's and equipment and such but the motivation and commitment just get sucked right out of me...for all the same reasons. I HAVE to put on the GYM clothes and shoes and go there and be motivated by the peeps around me to really do it, and do it right! I blame them all too! THEY are the ones that treat me like I am some rock star acting like I do so much when I don't feel that way at all, but I'll sure take it and it makes me want to live up to that standard my GYM peeps seemed to have set for me. I sure miss that place! Dang, I've been twice in 2 weeks, due to illnesses, lack of mojo, the Swine Flu. I hope tomorrow it'll be safe for me to return.

Monte, Thanks so much for doing that for us. Maybe one of the "Power Chicks" can get ion touch with Dixie for us??? I am getting worried now....

 everyone
I've been out of town so I have a lot of posts to catch up on which I will try to do later this afternoon. I haven't worked out in 5 days but I think my body really needed the rest. I was feeling very worn out and after these days off I feel well rested and ready to get going again. I made healthy food choices while I was away, and I came back down 1.5 lbs.

Diva, great question! When I was in really good shape I loved going to the gym. Since my injury, and gaining all this weight I have been working out at home and I really like it. I know right now I would be too self concious to go to the gym. I bought a Stairmaster and I can really push myself on it, so I feel like I am getting a really good cardio workout. For weights I need to follow a dvd in order to make myself choose the right weight. When I try to do it myself I always go lighter than I should.

Echo, thanks for setting up the challenge thread :)

Monte, thank you for the results :) I hope everything is ok with Dixie.

Nixmom, good for you for joining a bootcamp class! Hang in there and I'm sure it will get easier. You can do it :cheer2:

I have to admit, I waited too long to eat and caved last night. I was out in town and I went to a char-grilled burger place. Not greasy fast food, but like real lean meat grilled. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries and a diet coke. I ate the whole 1/4 pound burger and about 8 fries, then tossed the rest. There is a silver lining though, I was still in my calorie budget for the day. So even though it wasn't a great food choice, it wasn't tragic. We all need to have a burger or ice cream every once in a while. I think it keeps us sane. Like now, my craving for burgers is gone, so I can continue to make healthy choices today.

How Does your exercise environment influence your Work-out?

I try and set myself up for limiting excuses. I have a treadmill in my front room which has a TV right in front of it. I usually have some DVR shows to watch which makes time go by quickly. I also leave my road bike on the bike trainer in front of the other TV so it's easier to just jump on and ride. Also I'ved signed up for a training group after the holidays so that "group" enviroment I think will be a big key in helping my fitness development get where it needs to be by next fall. (supportive enviroment but challenging)

I also put on workout clothes even if I'm just walking. Feels more like a workout!

Question for you. How would you calibrate your calories lost for the day if you don't have a bodybugg?.

My bmr is 1317, so I am trying to eat under that or come out even, then my calories lost during exercise is my net loss for the day.

Am I doing this right?

I've skipped 2 doses of meds so I could drag myself out of bed, three weeks of this crud is enough. Give me a second and I'll get the numbers together, then I'm going back to sleep. I'm not getting email notifications on my PMs, sorry that I haven't responded to anyone who sent one. They're supposed to go to e-mail on my phone. Which is by the bed, so I'd know to get up...

Hello all!

Man, I've missed a lot with our group. I'm sorry I've been MIA this time around. I've moved twice and started a new job in the past couple of months, and I still don't have a routine down yet. The good news is that I have been losing slowly but surely. The bad is that I still haven't been running. I would say that the moving and no schedule thing is my excuse for that, but I've managed the fit it in under much more extreme circumstances. Guess I just need to do it, heh.

It was nice to be a runner up a couple of weeks ago! I think that's my first time being in the ranking at all. Congrats to happeningf!!! Fantastic job, lady.

Dee, sorry you've been so sick :( I hope you kick this thing soon.

Alright chicas, gonna head home and hopefully work out tonight. Wish me luck ;)

Welcome Back! I'm glad you are feeling better now and can move, hehe! Jillian will kill ya. See I know y'all are fans but my thing is, I totally disagree with her methods. I just don't see how pushing ones self to the point of injury is going to help anything at all when you are going to have to rest and recuperate because SHE or you because she's pushing you too far too fast. JMO...but this is why I a not crazy about her.

Mercy - YAY for pain free exercise. Thats always such a bummer to wait out but reminds you how strong you are when you get back in the groove!

Want to do more personals girls but I gotta pull off a shower in 9 minutes so I can watch TBL. Have a great night!

Thanks for all the encouraging words. I think it may be TOM starting and I always get a little depressed. Did ok yesterday but I did workout. Did part 2 of 30DS. Man Jillian is crazy!! lol!! My butt is so sore today but in a good way.

Congrats to all the losers!!

Dee-hope you feel better soon (((hugs)))

Dixied - I hope you are feeling better soon!!!

Nix - I'm glad you are liking the bootcamp thing! Keep it up!

Diva - Are things back to normal at your house after the swine flu ordeal? I hope you're back on track!

Mercy - I figured out my burned calories by lifestyle, then eat to leave a 1000 cal deficit between them. So my daily lifestyle burned calories is 2450 so I eat 1400ish calories a day. If I work out too, I eat a little bit more. I wish I had a bodybugg to make it more accurate though.

So, it seems that switching to a lower calorie intake is what I needed. I was eating between 1500-1700 cals a day, and I was losing, but then I had that freaky gain for no reason. But now I'm eating 1200-1400 and the pounds are falling off me! My weigh in on Monday was 176.5, I'm down to 174.2 this morning! 2.3 pounds in 2 days, wow! I also haven't worked out since Friday. I'm too busy getting my house ready for my parents to come visit this weekend. So, I've been moving, just not cardio-ishly moving. Hopefully I can get in a workout tonight, even if it's only a 30DS.

Thanks Echo:hug::hug:
How would you calibrate your calories lost for the day if you don't have a bodybugg?.

My bmr is 1317, so I am trying to eat under that or come out even, then my calories lost during exercise is my net loss for the day.

Am I doing this right?

you're welcome Mercy!

--

good question! and yes you're doing it right!

i don't have a bodybugg, but i do have a pedometer, that i attach to my waist and wear throughout the day, and it monitors my movements, and gives me estimate of general calories burned, its not 100% accurate, but does the job fine for me personally. plus i like looking at it at random times of the day and i end up doing random jogging in the place to just bump up the calorie number haha.

http://www.chinawholesalegift.com/pic/Health-Gifts/Healty-Fitness-Gadget/Oregon-Scientific-Pedometer-with-Pulse-Sensor-14215745662.jpg

you can find out calories burned through exercise, by looking it up on the following websites:

http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc

or

http://www.dietandfitnesstoday.com/caloriesBurnedInfo.php?weight=74.5&duration=10&id=2

okay so this is how i calculate my calorie deficient.

for eg a typical ideal day would be

total calories eaten = 1200
total calories burned = exercise + general pedometer reading = 600

my personal BMR is 1800.

so calorie deficient is calculated as follows:

my BMR = 1800
calories eaten 1200
calories burned = 600

BMR (1800) - 1200 (calories eaten) = 600 (calorie deficient from food)

then total calorie deficient calculated:

600 (calorie deficient from food) + 600 (calorie burned) = 1200 (total calorie deficient)

then to calculate predicted lbs lost.

1200(total calorie deficent) / 3500 (calories in 1lb) = 0.34 lbs loss.

for me personally if i do this on a daily basis. it keeps me focused, and if i want any indulgent snacks, i just work it in my calorie. and also stops me from binging. i dont think, oh i just had a chocolate, screw it i'm gonna go on a binge rampage, because i know i can make it up the next day, or in the evening. its all about total calorie deficient over a period of a WHOLE week. so everyday does count.

so yah you're doing it right!

ps thanks for the dare challenges - you and retiredone kicking my *** hehehe , it really helped me to burn those few extra calories!!!

yesterday my calorie deficient was a predicted -0.4lbs but this morning when i weighed in, to my suprise i lost 1lb overnight :cb: i know half of its water though. ;)

I'm at work. Woo-hoo. I actually managed a walk today, I'm not sure I'll make my 1000 miles or not. I'd been keeping track on a scrap of paper, I need to locate it and see how many miles I added to my total.

In the "If its' not one thing it's another" file, I seem to have developed an allergy to my make-up. My the time I got to work my under eye area was bright pink and swollen. It burned so bad that I went into the restroom and washed all my make-up off. So now I look as sick as I feel. Since I didn't change anything in my routine, I've been told I probably had a allergy develop. Now I have to try and eliminate WHAT I'm allergic to. Oh Joy.:D

I'm going to go try to clean out my inbox, I'll be back later.

Whoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can exercise again without pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I'm not too excited am I?:carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot:

No, everyone should be excited when they accomplish something they wanted to do.

Glad you made it back with all that's been going on. Congratulations on your runner up status. I was this week and I know how you felt.

I'm right with you there, Diva. I can't see how anyone can work with Jillian. I work better with soft coaxing and praise.

Thanks for all the encouraging words. I think it may be TOM starting and I always get a little depressed. Did ok yesterday but I did workout. Did part 2 of 30DS. Man Jillian is crazy!! lol!! My butt is so sore today but in a good way.

Hahahaha, I did several dares yesterday and was feeling a bit sore myself last night. Haven't checked out the thread yet today but I'm game for anything that won't turn me into a contortionist.

[QUOTE=dixied;2969304]I've skipped 2 doses of meds so I could drag myself out of bed, three weeks of this crud is enough.

Thanks for the congrats on winning week 3, but I don't deserve it! My starting weight for this whole thing was 136, then I hopped up during my period the 2nd week, and now it's finally gone back down. So I'm kind of just back to where I used to be.

Happening, don't kick a gift horse in the mouth. Take the Biggest Loser title for the week and wear it proudly.

This week's challenge is great. I've done several of the dares and my stomach is starting to feel somewhat sore from the crunches that people keep daring me to do. I just did the last dare and had to put on 2 bras to do it so I wouldn't be slapped in the face by flying boobs. Check out the challenge thread if you haven't yet.

YAY!!!! WTG!!!!! :carrot: Can you tell me how to measure that please???

From Jillian's first book: you just take your waist measurement and hip measurement, then divide wasit by hip. For women, she says healthy is at 0.8

I have to admit, I waited too long to eat and caved last night. I was out in town and I went to a char-grilled burger place. Not greasy fast food, but like real lean meat grilled. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries and a diet coke. I ate the whole 1/4 pound burger and about 8 fries, then tossed the rest. .

You were under your calories and tossed most of the fries, so I think you did okay. Sometimes you just gotta eat! I think you really do more damage by forcing yourself to go hungry too long. Good job!

Whoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can exercise again without pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I'm not too excited am I?:carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot:

Good morning Blue Team. I got up early this morning and was on the road a few minutes before 7:30 am. It was crisp and chilly walking this morning but I had on a scarf and mittens so I wasn't in any distress. The promised snow did not hit our area yesterday but we had rain and wind but this morning all was blue skies. I'm going shopping this afternoon and wanted to get in the walk early. I have dinner already prepared, sheets off the bed and washed and are now drying and I'm going try and hem a few pair of jeans before I leave.

Have a good day everyone and stay on plan!

I did all of the challenge items last night as one big workout and it was so fun! You ladies could team up as personal trainers  The hardest part for me was looking in the mirror and saying those 3 things. It was hard just to think of 1 thing, but I managed the first then the second was easier, but third was a mumble and run away because I couldnt think of another  I tried, but it is pretty sad and reminds me why I have to do this this time. Okay, enough sad stuff for 8AM!

And you did great to do all those challenges as one workout. My, some of those things I did yesterday just about did me in, hahahaha.

Now, about looking in the mirror and coming up with 3 nice compliments about yourself. That should be easy. Look at your smile, your hair, your eyes, your complexion, your teeth, your personality, the fact that you're losing weight and taking charge of your life, great mother. There are all kinds of things to like and love. Being overweight is not who you are. You are who you are. The fat may be a cover, but covers can be removed.

Day 2 of my reboot. Skipped the make-up this morning. After my attempted run (did 4 miles, but sloooowwly) my face felt like it was on fire. Could I be allergic to my own sweat? How horrible would that be. I put on some aloe vera and a teeny bit of mascara and seem fine now. Somehow, I thought that once I left obesity behind, my body would start making more sense. :dizzy: I think my warranty has expired.

Being sick for almost a month left me 7 pounds heavier at the end of last week. I've managed to lose 2.5 lbs already, but now TOM is here. Grr! I hope I can lose some more by Sunday. I don't mind posting a small gain, sometimes it's just life, but I don't want to type out a number that officially puts me back in the overweight catagory.

There's now 11 weeks left in 2009. I'm going to use that time to revamp my workout. Strength training has completely fell off my schedule. HIIT too. I'd been all about the longer walks/runs just to get my miles in. I've got to find a way to incorporate it all, and fix my diet. Cooking? Yeah, haven't done that in weeks. Living on cereal, ice cream and takeout, when I ate at all. :( Does anyone remember what I ate before I go sick? Cause I sure don't.

Sorry for the novel, I just needed to get some things out of my head and onto the screen. I'll try to come back in a bit.

It's been a hectic week here so far. Feeling 'off' for the past few days. I'm thinking it's the BP and/or Diabetes meds. Seems I may need to back off on one, if not both. Am going to the Doc today so will find out. Will be away right after that until late Sunday. I'm going to a cabin in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of friends. Hopefully we can get these meds worked out and I can feel better again. The weight has stayed pretty much the same though, even though my eating has been erratic at best.

On another note, I'm starting Scuba diving lessons on Monday !! I'm so excited, have always wanted to dive but never had the nerve and, quite frankly, was never fit enough to do it before. I'm going to Hawaii in January so thought this would be a perfect time to learn. Have any of you done any diving and what do you think of it?

Have a great weekend team !

I went to Hawaii 10 years ago with my sister. We went diving in Oahu, and I will tell you that you will have an experience that you will talk about for ages. We went to Hunana(Spelling?) Hey team! Have had a busy week this week, things are slowing down so maybe I'll have some of that "ME" time you were all talking about.

I go in spurts with my exercise. I used to go the gym religiously, then I got my treadmill and I started exercising at home. Currently I'm struggling finding the time to exercise at home and thinking about joining the local gym again.

Interesting article. I have never really thought about this. I would have to say that I work out harder at the gym than I do at home. I also work out harder when I am alone than with a partner.

{{{Hugs}}} for Diva and dixied, that all your sickness will be leaving very soon. dixied hope you find out what is making you break out in hives, that sounds painful.

want to say Hi to everyone else, need to catch up, on my reading....

*****
as for me QOTD-I exercise at home, just pop in a DVD and away I go, I've never tried working out at a gym, or getting a personal trainer, for me when I started this journey, I was WAY.....too self conscience, to be seen in public at 300lbs, and now I find my routine is so set, breakfast, pack my lunch, do my daily chores, then me time, pop in a DVD, I don't think I would enjoy having to leave the house, to exercise. But I won't say never, who knows, maybe.

I had a real eye opener this week, I'm always looking for ways to decrease my sodium intake, I think the closer I get to ending my relationship with TOM, I find I retain so much more water, at that fun time of the month...sorry maybe TMI, anyway, just found out that instant FF/SF pudding has 480mg of sodium in one 1/2c serving, {and that's just the dry mix, then the milk adds on to that} and somedays I might of have 2servings, that's a whole lot of salt!!! Funny, you think, you're doing pretty good, by having a low calorie treat, only to find, you are adding a ton of salt into your system. Just wanted to share, cooked FF/SF pudding has 110mg, I wonder if it's possible to make your own pudding?

well need to get to bed, have a wonderful Friday everyone, a very cold, wet one is in store for us this weekend.

 Hello everyone. Welcome back Bigsexy. Glad you had a good time on your trip and doing so great with the weight.

I had a good day shopping yesterday but was dead tired by the time I got home. Bought lots of great fruit and vegetables. Funny thing, I've never had such sweet fruit before, I'm sure. Maybe it's the lack of sugar most days that has the fruit tasting so good.

Institches, here is a recipe I found in my files. Using splenda and leaving out the butter and using skim milk will give you a sf/ff pudding. The servings are huge so you can get about 8 small servings instead of 4. But you will notice the sodium is still high for the regular servings so you could also leave out the salt or cut it down to a pinch. Leaving out the butter (if it's salted) will also cut down on the sodium. If you want vanilla pudding just leave out the cocoa and increase the vanilla extract by at least another teaspoon or two.

Chocolate Cornstarch Pudding

Yields: 4 servings

INGREDIENTS:
½ cup white sugar
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ cup cornstarch
⅛ teaspoon salt
2 ¾ cups milk
2 tablespoons margarine or butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:
In a saucepan, stir together sugar, cocoa, cornstarch and salt. Place over medium heat, and stir in milk. Bring to a boil, and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a metal spoon. Remove from heat, and stir in margarine and vanilla. Let cool briefly, and serve warm, or chill in refrigerator until serving.

I hope you feel better soon...TOM always picks the most wonderful moments to make an appearance!

:hug: it's a good idea to think about revamping and getting things back on track by the end of the year. WOW....the end of the year? Really? Seems it has just flew by me.

I have to get thinking about Christmas :dizzy:

Morning Bluesies!

Finished my 1st week of bootcamp last night. Have a nutrition class tonight, and if the scale isn't lying, I'm down 3 lbs since monday. I can't move my arms (seriously, it is killing me to type!) but I am loving it.

Will be back later to do personals. I am off work today, but gotta go get my walk in before I end up browsing all day!

So yesterday I was POP. Ran a little, walked a lot, ate right, hydrated....and I gained 1/2 a pound. :?: My body is just confused, I know it's no reason to get down about it, but still....

TOM is in full swing and tomorrow is the 10K I'm supposed to be running. Not a chance of that happening, I don't think I'll even attempt the 5K this weekend, except by myself at the track. I added 4 more miles to my total this morning, it took 53 minutes. A little off my pace from before I was sick, but not too shabby. Considering that a year ago this week I was just starting C25K, I think my (adjusted for warm-up/cooldown) 12 minute/mile pace isn't too bad.

Roni - I hope you feel better!

Leslie - I've always wanted to learn to scuba dive, and here in FL there's a ton of places to learn and go, but I've been told that people with chronic sinus issues shouldn't dive, so that's been my excuse. :o

OOPS! I just realized that I forgot to say "Thank You!" to all of you who kept the chat thread and challenges going while I was out sick. I'm never going to be able to thank ya'll enough for that and the PMs checking up on me. You're all awesome.

I have some good news today!

Mercy - WAHOO!!! That's great!!! Keep up the good work!

BigSexy - Welcome back! Hope you had a nice time, and WAHOO that you still had a loss while away from home!

Skinny Jeans - The year is flying by! Keep up the good work, and like Retiredone said, don't under rate yourself.

Dixie - Sounds like you are almost back in full swing! Glad you are feeling better.

Diva - How ya feeling? Hope you kick whatever you have soon!

Nix - Great job with the boot camp this week!!!

Retiredone - Thanks for the recipe!

Well it seems like TOM is catching a lot of us. I can feel the puffiness, and am not looking forward to the next few days. I have had a significant loss for this week (-2.4 pounds from Mon to Wed) but have been sitting tight at 174.2 since Wed morning. But NOT complaining! I'm actually ecstatic! I have not been working out for the last week, things have been way to busy at home. And I had some TOM cravings and made brownies last night. I went over about 350 calories or so, but I still had a 750ish calorie deficit, so I'm not going to sweat it. I have some major house scrubbing to continue tonight. My parents are coming tomorrow to help DH and I with some projects we have around the house that we have been putting off for *sigh* 2 years. House renovating is such a PITA, especially while you live in the house.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!

Thanks retiredone!! and lol at being sore from all the dare challenges. hehe
i know i had to hold onto my girls when i was doing the jumping challenge!

I think the challenge this week is great, I wish I had time to do it! I haven't had time for a work out since Friday. I'm hoping I can slip one in tonight. I would do the challenges at work, but people here might think I'm nuts, lol.

aww thanks Nella! come on right in to the dare challenge!
From Jillian's first book: you just take your waist measurement and hip measurement, then divide wasit by hip. For women, she says healthy is at 0.8

Thanks Skinny jeans! that's really helpful! :-) and congrats to you!

@ Echo I'm jealous:D

Thank you:hug:

lol Mercy :) aww you're so welcome :)

its funny, now im so grateful that cause of my height i get to have a higher bmr - when i was younger, like a teenanger, i was so selfconscious about my height, and felt like some giant, cause all my friends and cousins were shorter than me, and would you believe it, i would always say, i wish i was shorter. i was so self conscious about my height, and never wore high heels and always wore trainers or flat shoes, had a hard time buying shoes cause i didnt want heels. i also had this friend who was tall himself saying he prefers short girls cause they are more cute and feminine. which made me feel self conscious. its stupid how other peoples personal taste can have an effect on your own mindset.

but then a couple of years later, this other guy friend of mine, said to me, are you crazy, being tall is great, girls love being tall. and i used to say, but if i was shorter than i could wear high heels lol. so stupid i know.

but now i love my height and am more confident and now think its great cause i get to have a higher bmr haha. so thinking more to walk tall, stand up straight.

i think the older you get - the more confident you become... teenange - early twenties is a hard time. i think the older you get the more self confident you become. has anyone else found that?

I did all of the challenge items last night as one big workout and it was so fun!

wow you are a machine Skinnyjeans!! well done on completeing all of the challenges!! you rock!! :bravo: :cheer3:

You ladies could team up as personal trainers  aww thanks so much Skinnyjeans thats such a lovely thing to say! totally made my day!!!!!

The fat may be a cover, but covers can be removed.

awesome Retiredone! love that

The scale is cooperating this morning:D I just hit 140 again, so maybe the elusive 139 is in sight again.

awesome Mercy!! well done ! :bravo:

Miss you too Diva!! take care of yourself! remember when you're run down, best thing to do is take plenty of rest

There's now 11 weeks left in 2009. I'm going to use that time to revamp my workout.
Sorry for the novel, I just needed to get some things out of my head and onto the screen. I'll try to come back in a bit.

thats such a great idea Dixie to revamp your workout for the rest of the year! as long as you're fully recovered, dont want you pushing yourself when you're still feeling under the weather.

i think its great to share your thoughts through writing, helps to declutter your brain!

i know for me personally, when i go to bed, i might have random thoughts running through my head, so i have a small note pad next to my bed, and write things down that i want to do the next day. and then i can stop going over then and can get to sleep.

On another note, I'm starting Scuba diving lessons on Monday !! I'm so excited, have always wanted to dive but never had the nerve and, quite frankly, was never fit enough to do it before. I'm going to Hawaii in January so thought this would be a perfect time to learn. !
WOW thats so awesome LeslieB you taking scuba diving lesons!! and wow hawaii, you must be so excited!!
good for you for learning and trying something new! :bravo:

Hi fellow Blue Team!! Glad to be back. The trip was awesome and I even lost weight, so I'm super excited! I hope everyone has been enjoying their week and is looking forward to weigh in time. There's nothing like getting on the scale and seeing a smaller number! :D

nice to have you back bigsexy! your challenge last week rocked!!! :broc:

well done on losing weight even on your trip! :bravo:
Hey team! Have had a busy week this week, things are slowing down so maybe I'll have some of that "ME" time you were all talking about.

That's great dream710!

Thanks for the article muse!

Thanks for the chocolate pudding recipe retiredone! Thats really interesting about the high sodium institches. you're so right, it might say low fat, but not necessarily good for you in other means.

Good afternoon my little Blue Team members. I'm feeling happy today with my weigh in. Lost 1.5 pounds this week. I think that's pretty good after losing 2 pounds last week and for an old lady past her estrogen producing years. :D

Nella, you're doing great with the weight loss.

Echo,oh to have 5 more inches added to my height. I'd be at goal weight now. Funny, the short are never happy about their height and the tall are always too tall...glad you've excepted yours. :)

Nixmom, you might be pooped but you sound pumped! So glad the boot camp is working for you.

I was going to take my skipping rope outside and do my own challenge but it's raining and snowing out today so maybe I'll do Echo and Bev's challenge today and leave the skipping for a dry day. But Bev, 50 jumping jacks followed by another 50 jumping jacks... Girl you're going to either kill me or knock another pound off my frame. Hahahaha, I'll take the pound knocked off.

Today, was my treat day. I had carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and a scoop of ice cream on the side. That's a meals worth of calories but it was good and only happens once a week now. I have my treat on the same day as I weigh. That sounds as if I'm rewarding myself with food but I'm not. It's just that it worked out that way. We always have a big meal on Saturdays and I like to weigh the end of the week so that's how that happened but it's a good way to do it as it gives me a full week to recover if I should go hog wild. Thankfully, I'm doing much better. I only had 1 piece of cake and a 1/3 cup of ice cream. Just a few months ago I'd have had 2 or 3 pieces of cake with as much ice cream I could pack into the bowl along side the cake. You know, if I have 1 dessert once a week, that gives me 52 desserts a year. And if I try a new or different dessert most weeks that gives me quite a variety during the year. No one would eat 52 desserts at one time because.... well because it would be next to impossible. What I'm trying to say is I'm not deprived having only the 1 dessert a week.

Have a good day.

Hey chicks!

Had a great day shopping! Got myself a new purse (thanks step mommy!) and some shoes and I bought a belt - a size smaller than I am now with a cool a$$ buckle that is metal and spells out the work ROCK in rhinestones. I am gonna rock it soon with a tee-shirt and jeans! Its was a bargain (Guess belt normal $58 on sale for $15. I cant wait!

Retiredone - I have a man with bad legs - hit by a car driven 90 miles an hour by a 90 year old man who drove the building my man was working in! but he keeps some luscious upper body on him too! Gotta get him working out soon to maintain it! And I am pumped for the class I'm in. It just feels like its gonna produce some serious and much needed results!

Echo - Although I dont get in on the challenge threads (too many to keep up with) I do have an idea - straight from my trainer girl - when doing your walking or running... stop every 5 minutes and do 50 jumping jacks... increases the ole cardio and mixes it up a bit. Just a thought.

Had dinner at my pops tonight. A late b-day dinner (was supposed to be in July) and enjoyed pork loin, mashed potatoes and sliced tomatoes and avocado. Not too bad on the health front, and the company was fantastic!

So off to bed for me. Can finally straighten my arms out again and may actually get to sleep through the night. Hope you all have a great night!

Nixmom, sounds like you had a great day all round, with shopping and a family dinner to top it all off. Got your exercise shopping and had a nutritious meal that night. So sorry to hear about your man's legs. My friend's father had his legs crushed by garage doors and it was a long recovery. It's nice to see well defined muscles in the upper body though. I'm getting close to being a senior citizen but I still like what I see. :D

Echo, that one pound gain is not permanent so don't feel bad. It's the end product that you're working towards and sometimes it's like walking a dog--a bit of backtracking.

Diva, I don't know why I was humming that tune. But it was in my head and I looked up the lyrics to the song and fixed them. Hahaha. So glad you're feeling yourself again. Nothing worse than being under the weather.

Talk about being under the weather. DS and DIL who live about 90 kilometers away got the same snow we did yesterday but theirs didn't turn to rain. Wow, it looks like winter wonderland where they live. Our snow is all gone except a few patches on the sides of the roads but they must have close to 6 inches in places.

I just got back from my 5k walk and it is cold out but I worked up a good pace and got a bit sweaty and warm. Before I left I did a few crunches and tried the leg lift crunches and found out I can't lift both legs while holding them straight out. I had to bend them and get them up part way before I could stretch them out to lift and lower them. I also couldn't figure out why my arms were so sore when I put them behind my head to do the crunches. It hurt to raise them up and then it hit me--it's the 100 jumping jacks I did yesterday--flapping my arms up and down. Ha, ha. I'll have to keep doing those jacks as they really get the heart pumping and gives me a bit of gravity resistance on the arms.

Gone shopping in a few minutes so I guess that'll count for a bit more walking.

Catch all later.

---

i have edited one of the dares, so instead of shoulder presses i have changed it to bicep curls standing on one foot, the reason is because i just learnt this morning, whilst listening to a jillian podcast about how to avoid getting bulky trapz muscles!!

i have copied pasted my message from the dare thread here - for anyone who is interested :)

----

This morning (sunday) i was listening to jillians podcast and learned something very interesting that i wanted to share! there was a caller saying that her trapz muscles are getting bulky and how to reduce it. jillian said the following

"To prevent big trapz muscles - between neck and shoulders...

"AVOID upright rows - avoid pulling weight from ground up and elevating your elbows towards your ears, none of those, those build trapz big time

basically avoid THIS exercise >>

http://www.myfit.ca/exercisedatabase/viewanexercise.asp?exercise=Upright+Row&table=exercises&ID=19

You CAN DO lateral raises - hold the weights and lift the arms out to the side.

Dont do shrugs. Never do upright rows, no shrugs, never elevate shoulders up to the ear

Lateral raises are good.
Anterior raises - where you hold the weight infront of you, are good.

Posterior shoulder raises -where you bend over - and you push the weight behind you,- DO NOT DO MORE THAN TWICE a month MAX

basically NO upright Rows, and NO shrugs.

I have compiled a bunch of exercises to NOT do from the following website.

so dont do any exercises that specifically work the trapz muscles:"

avoid these

http://www.myfit.ca/exercisedatabase/search.asp?muscle=Trapezius&other=Neck

avoid these:
http://www.leehayward.com/art27.htm

trapz = trapezius muscle

Okay....so I am back on track. Picked up Jillian's 30 Day Shred so I will start that tomorrow. Today was a day of mowing, weed eating and trimming up the hedges. Closed up the swim pool on Saturday so all the floaties and water weights got put into storage for the winter until the pool is opened up next year. After 4 weeks of thyroid medicine.....I am starting to get more energy. Not sure what my number will be like tomorrow but the week after I should rock it out.

I have great news! Hubby is back to working full time and that means I get to cut back on my work here as we'll no longer be depending just on me :carrot: I can give more time to other things like taking care of myself now...just have to finish up a big project today and then I can not accept as much work, finally! But, I'm not going to cut back too much because we have Christmas coming up and right now both the kids need winter coats and we have to come up with Halloween outfits...it's always something!

Considering that a year ago this week I was just starting C25K, I think my (adjusted for warm-up/cooldown) 12 minute/mile pace isn't too bad.

I think you are doing just awesome! I keep thinking I want to start going out to the track and attempting c25k but I always feel I can't do it, I'm too weak, too heavy, etc. :(

UGH! I had to post a 2.6 pound GAIN. Sorry Team. Just goes to show not exercising, being sick and TOM can surely take it's toll. O'well...:(

Skinny Jeans - That is great news!!

Diva - No worries, you were sick, the important thing is you are well now. And TOM sucks. I was down 2.4 on Friday, but TOM is any second, so I'm a bloated mess right now too. We just have to make the best of it and work hard this week :)

Iwanawerkit - I'm glad your medicine is leveling out and you are feeling better. Sounds like you had a busy weekend moving around. Any movement is good movement!

Retiredone - You go girl!! You're a little work out machine! Keep it up!!

I had a very busy weekend with Mom and Dad here helping with home renovation projects. Our house in finally starting to look like a nice house instead of the 55+ year old mess we bought 4 years ago. It's so hard to renovate and live in the house at the same time. Even harder when your DH is finishing his degree at night. So lots of trim and paint left to do, then we are pretty much done. Thank goodness! maybe in another year, lol.

Oh, and my aunt stopped by too. Haven't seen her in 5 months or so, the first thing she said was "Wow!" and spun me around and told me I have no butt ( I wish!) so I took that as a huge compliment. She didn't even know I had been trying to lose weight, so it meant even more. Now, that's motivation!
