As we all lose weight, this might help us figure out what clothing size we might be at certain weights. I know every body is different though.

I am 5'10", 259.6 pounds, and a size 20W. I am right on the cusp of being able to fit in normal sizes. I cannot wait until I am able to. Goodbye Lane Bryant and Avenue.

This is why clothing sizes drive me completely crazy. I haven't weighed in this month yet but suspect I am the same weight and height as you. I'm wearing size 20 pants. I don't expect to wear the same top as most folks my weight as I am size 40H bra, but if I'm carrying so much weight up top...

Oh well, blame it on my hourglass figure.

I'm about 5'7 and 180 pounds. I wear a size 16 jeans and a medium/large shirt, but I would probably be in a size 14 jeans if my darn legs would agree with my hips/stomach on what size to be. All the pants I try on are either super tight on my thighs or waaaay too loose on my hips. *grumble*

Mostly size 18 pants and XL tops.

Depending on the brand some 18s are loose and some are too tight. I'm stuck in between the plus size dept and regular dept right now. Clothes shopping is frustrating at the moment, however I love that I'm close to a lot of new options.

Barb, I went through this awhile back and it's maddening for sure. Luckily it doesn't last too long, but being in size limbo is not easy!

The size differences here are amazing for sure. I think at least some of the difference is that some people like a loose, relaxed fit while others prefer a snug, body-skimming fit. I'm 5'11", 195 lbs and wearing a size 14 pant. I think I'll be ready for a 12 in another few pounds. My top is lagging behind because of my big girls (she says modestly), so I'm still mostly an XL with an occasional Large on top. I've gone from a 38G to a 36F, so I haven't lost a whole lot in the booby area.

Oh my God! I went to buy a new pair of jeans today and had some serious problems with sizes. At the Gap/Old Navy, I was a size 12 (a little snug, but no problem zipping at all). At New York and Company, a size 14 was uncomfortably tight! I don't understand!

I'm 5'4", 175.8 lbs as of today, and I'm hourglass shaped. :) I have no idea what size pant I really am, as I haven't bought new work clothes. I can still hold them up with a belt, and they're not uncomfortably big yet. I'm a M or a L shirt, depending on the brand. I wear a 38DDD bra, so the top is always a problem.

My main reason for losing weight besides health and self-confidence is clothes. Regular-sized clothes are better looking and more stylish and *sometimes* cheaper. Just depends on if it's designer or not. Also, bras are cuter in smaller sizes. I'm a DDD cup and probably will go down in cup size as I lose weight. I know the band size will go down.

I'm 5'7 1/2" and 208 pounds. I wear a 14 or 16 in Old Navy pants, and I think in a few pounds will be ready to venture into the realm of size 12s. Wearing a size 10 skirt today for the first time (not sure of the brand) and pretty much deliriously happy. I wear L or XL shirts and am enjoying the L ones fitting more loosely these days. Nice to be firmly out of the world of plus-size clothing! Looking forward to going to stores like anthropologie...not like I would spend much money on the clothes, but geez, just to be able to go in there and try them on! Onderland bound...!

Clothing sizes drive me bananas! Like how more expensive brands are smaller? Sheesh!

I'm 5'5" and when I was 200 lbs I wore 16-18 pants and XL or XXL shirts--carried most of the weight in my chest, gut and butt.

I'm now 136'ish and wear 6's & 8's although I do have a size 4 skirt (but I'm think that has got to be mismarked or something) and depending on the brand, size sm or med in tops. Oh and I love that the girls have shrunk down to a b cup!! :D

5'8, 144 lbs, and right now I'm wearing a size Small shirt and a size 7/8 juniors shorts.

I do not wear jrs shorts as a matter of course; they are actually old favorites from early college (10 years ago).

I did just by a few size 'S' shirts, which was odd to me. However, I identify as being size 8 on bottom and size medium on top -- that's what most of my (new) clothes are, and that's what I was at 135-145 lbs, where I was for years before I got fat.

I'm 5'8. 237 lbs. 16/18 pants, 14/16 (and one very forgiving size 12 LOL) top. Measurements 44.5 - 37.5 - 46. I have a lot of muscle, heavy bone structure, huge hands and feet.

I have a couple friends also losing weight and they tell me I look like I weigh about 190. I have another friend who's 5'5, 189 lbs and I am a full size smaller than she is.

Starting size, August 13, 2008, 370ish lbs, 30 top, 32 pant. Specifically, too large to shop at Lane Bryant. When I started, the tape measure would not go all the way around my hips, so 60-something inches. I've lost more than 20 inches off my hips alone--almost 2 feet.

I'm 5'9", 262, and currently wear a 20 - 22W jean but am still in a 2 - 3X top (no butt, big boobs, broad shoulders).

I can wear one pair of stretch 12s.. mostly 14s and a few 16s. Tops anywhere from Medium to XL depending on the shirt.

(Started at 3x/26/28!)

I think my size is fairly low for my weight for 2 reasons... I work out a lot (muscle) and my arms and legs aren't skinny I tend to carry my weight evenly. Which sounds like a nice thing but honestly I think my thick arms make me look heavier then I am.

I find sizing very fickle too. The thing I wear that is most consistent are scrubs. The ones I have on ready for work are an xsmall. I'm hovering between my smalls that are kinda getting baggy and xsmalls that are kinda snug.

Between 5'5" and 5'6" and 145. I have finally gotten too small for the 12 pants, so I'm in a 10. Once I get to the upper 130s where I want to be (136 or so) I'll be in 8 pants. Currently I'm in between on tops... When I was close to 160 I was wearing all larges in tops. I'm still wearing those tops, but some are a little big, and I'm able to wear medium tops again.

Even at 125 and my height, I never could wear a 4 pants, which is a little baffling because several people who weigh a good deal more say they wear 4s. It's my shape!

I have a feeling you're large-framed. I know it's cliche to say you're "big-boned," and I don't mean it in an offensive way at all. I always thought I was large-framed and settled into weighing 165-170 until I looked at this chart (http://www.healthchecksystems.com/heightweightchart.htm#frame) and figured out I had a medium-sized frame. I (would like to) think I'd be completely out the size 18s if my hips weren't still spread from having a baby. Also, I am a very "large framed" person. At 140 pounds, my lowest weight at this height, I looked like a corpse. At 160, I looked extremely thin, but still healthy. I was most comfortable at 170-180 pounds.

My wrist measurement went down by about a 1/2 inch over about 55 pounds, which was enough to change my frame size from large right past medium to small.

I imagine the amount of fat on one's wrist varies with different body types, just like distribution to the abdomen or hips does. I never really though my wrists looked fat, although a watch did get too small. I assume the change in wrist measurement would be highest with higher amounts of weight lost, plus some people might lose even more there than me, 'cause we're all different.

I am 5'6" , weigh 176lbs and wear a size 14. Medium size top.
Funny though, I bought something a while ago in a size 10 - just because it fitted me! I knew it was wrongly sized, but gosh that felt good!
I think body shape is important as well. I have big arms and legs, and pretty evenly proportioned top and bottom.

At 5'9, size 10 shoe, you sound pretty medium-framed to me.

Well I'll be ~~~~~!!! According to my wrist measurement, I'm medium framed.

Looks like I might have to re-think my goal weight???

Sherry

ETA - I've went through my ENTIRE life being told I'm large framed..."oh, you're just big-boned" or "just look at those feet...you're DEFINITELY large-framed".

Wow.

I know it may sound weird, but suddenly I don't feel so...doomed?

I don't want anyone to take that the wrong way...perhaps doomed isn't the best choice of words, but when you have it hammered into you all your life that you have NO HOPE of being anything other than "a big girl" and suddenly find out that "they" just MAY have been wrong, it feels "almost" liberating...KWIM???

At 5'9, size 10 shoe, you sound pretty medium-framed to me. I'm an inch shorter than you but wear a size 13 shoe and men's XL gloves...now, I'M large-framed. My wrist width was almost double the medium measurement!

You didn't mean by the posted chart did you? Because it's for elbow width, not wrist circumference. My wrist circ is a lot more than double the "medium" elbow width. I'm sure that's not what you meant. I've never seen a chart for wrist width (which may not mean much!). And I don't think anyone has a wrist circ double the "medium" range (in other words, around 12.5 inches!).

I'm 5'5" on a good day and I fluctuate between 136 and 140lbs. Right now I have pants in sizes 6-12 that all fit (tho the 12s need a belt)...I think I'm between an 8-10 most places.

By my wrist measurement, I am small-medium framed. However, I think I am meant to have a certain amt of fat on me bc it is extremely hard for me to be less than 135. I am 24% body fat and that seems to be normal for me. Also, when I'm standing up, you can see my hip bones...I think my pelvis is large-framed even though the rest of me is small-medium framed (size 7.5-8 shoe) bc there isn't much fat there left to lose without looking gaunt, even though I could be healthy at 20%bf. A size 28 designer jean fits my skeleton...I just don't think I'll ever be that small, even if I am "small-framed". I'm spoon-shaped, so that might have something to do with it.

Just to chime in... I'm 5'8" 280 lbs currently (thanks prednisone!) Large or 1X shirt and size 20 pants, but they're tight. Pretty sure I fit into the large frame category as my lowest adult weight was 120 and very ill/skeletal at that weight. I have tentatively set a goal weight of 150-170, adjustable as I drop inches because I know my healthy good looking weight is somewhere in that range. Body type is very hourglass with an extra amount of sand on the bottom lol.

I'm a little over 5 ft but not quite 5' 1" and I'm hovering around 200. I made it under 200 the other day but I went back up 2 lbs because I had a lot of sodium on Sunday. I wear a size 16 jeans from Old Navy and they are big but some other 16s are fine. I'm excited for when I can wear my size 14s again but of course ultimately I'm excited to wear whatever size it might be when I reach a comfortable weight. There's a girl in one of my classes that's about my height and around the weight I want to be with a similar build and she wear's 0-2 and sometimes even kids sizes 12-14 so we'll see I guess.

Thanks for making that comment "takes so much to drop 1 pant size at the beginning, but easier later" I have never been small so I don't know, but gosh I thought it was odd that in a 20ish pound range I haven't changed sizes, but then I try and measure that down to friends at 135 lbs and I think I'll never be a 8 or 6 :( with the lack of changing sizes!

A hair under 3"--equivalent to a large-boned man over 6 feet tall. No, I knew it wasn't wrist circumference.

With my bone structure I *should* be well over 6 feet, everyone else in my family is. My dad's 6'4", grandfather and uncles even taller. I had a lot of ear infections/tonsillitis as a child and I think it stunted my growth.

My wingspan in almost 6'3" and it should be my height, 5'8". My wrist circumference is almost 7", when I was 370 it was almost 9". My ankles are 12"--a tad swollen, but still would be over 11" even if they weren't swollen. I think I qualify as large framed using any system of measurement. :) The upside is, I could squeeze into size 16 jeans at 250 lbs. Now some of these 16 are floating on me and I should be in 14s real soon. (None of my friends believe I'm over 200 lbs unless I step on the scale in their presence. Being big-boned definitely has its advantages.)

I think Old Navy sizes tend to fluctuate. I always take 3 pair in to try on, I've held them up and they can be as much as an inch off from each other! I think it's the way they cut them, maybe too many layers in the stack or something.

Either way, I'm 5'6, 173. I'm a 12 in Banana Republic jeans-which I love! They actually fit so well and are fun to shop for. But I have a pair of Gap jeans from maybe 4-5 years ago that I can get on, zipped with little trouble but are a but too snug for me to feel comfortable in public in them without a sweatshirt or something. So maybe I'm closer to a current 10 then I realize :)

Better this comment than the one I got yesterday... I got my rings sized finally, went to a 4, but they are still spinning freely around my finger, a 3.5 would fit the finger part better. 3.5 is a little snug on my knuckle though, could probably do a 3.75. The jeweler said I have an large 'knuckle to finger' ratio, so my rings might just have to be loose on the finger to go over the knuckle. When I told DH he said "I'm not surprised, you have your mom's witch hands." He did say later "some witches are good looking", so there is that. :dizzy:

I had to come back to add something about these crazy pants. I'm wearing them right now and so was reminded of them. They are from No Boundaries and are marked as a junior 19. These dang things will fit me if I'm anywhere between a 14 and a 20/22. They look best when the rest of my pants are 16s, above 16 and they are tight but still fit, 14 and they are baggy but they fit. Not sure if they would still fit if I were otherwise wearing a 12 because I've not been a 12 since I've had them, guess I'll be finding out in a few months. I am fairly certain they would not fit if I were a 24 and I do not plan to ever find out. These have got to be the craziest pants ever. I plan to get hubby to take progress pics today in these pants, at 197. I have some older progress pics at 229 in these pants. I can't wait to see them side by side.

I'm 5'6", 254lbs and am currently in a size 22. All bodies are different, it makes me want to scream when I go shopping. I have that pear shaped kind of figure, if I had to give it a name thats what I'd guess.

I'm smaller up top and bigger on the bottom, which is more of a curse than I know how to admit. My shirts range from medium to large, some XL depending on the maker of the clothing. Before I lost down to 254lbs, I was wearing 24-26W jeans. It isn't a huge step, but one step at a time is the way to go.

What a fun thread!

I'm 5'7" and 165. I have clothing from size 10 to 14 - the 14's are getting pretty much too big to wear. Sometimes I like baggy clothes, so the 14's are always baggy, most 12's are loose, and skirts in size 10 leave me some room at the waist. I can fit comfortably into most size 8 skirts while standing UP, but if they're a straight fitting skirt, they feel a bit too snug when I sit down :)

I have a size 8 pair of pants that I can pull up and zip but I need about 1" more to button them :) Does that count as an 8? LOL I've had 2 clothes shopping experiences where the salesgirl said "You look to be about a 10" so despite the fact I can squeeeeze into some 8's, and some 14's dont fall ALL the way down (unless I'm running, then the 14's do fall down LOL) I'd make "size 10" my final answer.

I was a 14 at 185. At 211 I was probably an 18; I never bought any 18's but none of my 16's fit at that weight unless they were elastic waist, or unless I was willing to deal with *serious* muffin top!

merose: I think a UK 14 is smaller than a US 12. I lived in England for a few years and I have some clothes from then. I have all of my too small stuff sorted into bins according to size and I sorted it by what size it was on me, not by the size on the tags. I have UK size 18 stuff in the bin marked 14 and UK size 16 in the 12s bin. I don't have any UK 14s, but I am guessing by what I do have that if I did it would be in the 10s bin. It was so frustrating to me that the sizes weren't the same. And shoes go the opposite way - I wear a size 6 US shoe and a 4 UK shoe, grrrr! American friends that see the 4 on the bottom of some of my shoes from England are so confused.

I have a big butt/hips, so it really depends on the jeans, sometimes it will fit in certain areas and not in others.. ugh. Tops vary, its tough to get a good fit on anything structured because if I get a medium, it will fit everywhere but the bust, and sometimes a large will fit around my bust but be too big everywhere else, I end up belting everything lol. Ive noticed how crazy it is based on your height and your weight....i seen someone on one of these pages who was 5'1" and weighed like 137 who wore size 14-16 in jeans...Its crazy because if i weight 137 lbs...id be emaciated...lol (not making fun of the person just pointing out how height and weight is such a difference)

My goal is to fit in size 10/11 jeans and medium/large tops...so i need to lose like 5 pant sizes for this to occur...hoping that being 191lbs at 5'11" would be that goal....lol

Good news--I think you'll be close to your goal sizes at that weight. I'm 5'11" and 191 pounds (yeah, coincidence, huh! :) ). I started out at 245 and was wearing size 18-20; my problem is (and always has been) my butt and thighs. The butt is melting away and I have lost 6" off my waist, but the thighs are still kind of holding me up.

I am wearing size 12 jeans and yesterday I tried on a cute size 12 skirt that I'm still thinking about going back to buy. It looked a little tight on my thighs so I worry about that. I also bought two size large sweaters (and I'm a 36G). So even if you also have big boobs and big thighs, like me, you'll be in at least a 12 if not smaller by that weight. But I've seen posts where people are shorter than me, weigh the same (or more) and wear smaller pants, so your goals seem completely reasonable.

It's the way we're built. I think that people who are wearing smaller sizes probably have slimmer hips and thighs than you and I do. Remember that I am 6" taller than you and that makes a big difference, but yeah, it's confusing that people who weigh the same (or more!) are wearing two sizes smaller.

Also...I almost hesitate to say this, but some people's idea of "fit" is different from mine. To me, if I have any fat hanging over the top of my jeans, they don't fit. I was able to squeeze (and I mean SQUEEZE) myself into a pair of size 10 jeans, but that sure doesn't mean that they fit! I had all kinds of tummy sticking out above the tight waistband and I know that sitting would have been extremely uncomfortable. It's quite possible that when people say that they are wearing a smaller size than you, they may be comfortable with way more "muffin top" than you or I might be comfortable with. Also, if they are an apple shape then they will have slim hips and thighs so they will naturally wear a smaller pant size.

Don't be sad.....curvy butts and hips are very nice! :)

I'm 5'3", 139, and usually wear size 10 petite or medium.

(But my closet currently houses clothes that fit me well in vintage size 14, 20-year-old size 12s, current 8 and 6, and small in Lands End & L.L. Bean, among others.)

ETA: As a curiosity, I'm still wearing wide-calf boots, as my calves remain about 17" in circumference. From past experience, I know this is the last place on my body to drop weight, and I have to be 125 or below to lose a few inches from them. But I don't like being that weight, as it's mentally & physically stressful, so I have to work at being more accepting of my body & genetic destiny.

I'm 5'2". I was down in the low 170s and my size 10s were getting a bit too big, but I could only fit comfortably into 8 in a couple brands. I derailed for a few months and am now bouncing between 188 and 191 and wearing a 12.

Shirts - Usually medium, sometimes large. Small if it comes from Cato.

I have this one pair of pants, I call them my magic pants. They have fit me the entire time. They looked best when my other clothes were a 16-18, but they have always fit. They are a size 20. 194lbs pregnant (203 pre-pregnancy)

I'm still in my same pre-pregnancy clothes since I'm in the first trimester still. I can wear 12's in pants at Old Navy but I have a pair of Levi's 545 Low Boot Cut jeans in 14's, although I read that they run small.

Shirts, however, are a BIG struggle since I measure as a 36H (I can never find that in the stores but for some reason a Lane Bryant 38F is working at the moment :dizzy:). I normally wear a L/XL but I can't wear anything with buttons or empire waist (well, anything with a fitted chest) in those sizes. HOWEVER, maternity clothes actually fit there so I start wearing maternity tops ASAP because I can actually wear empire waists for once! :D

Oh, and I have a vague range from when I was in smaller sizes:

140's 8 (but I think I had maybe one or two size 6's or size 10's in there)
155-165 10
170's-180's 12
190's-early 200's 14
late 200's-225 16

All the rest was in maternity clothes so no clue about the actual size. I checked my elbow and I should be small framed. :dizzy: Kind of funny because at 140 I looked REALLY small (in my old photos it didn't look big on me at all!). But I've always had a larger chest and been hourglass shaped so maybe that's the difference?

I am in a size 18 in most brands, yet sometimes it's a 20. I am much smaller on top overall (minus the waist issue) but I am nursing so my chest is bigger than I am used to so it's making tops fit funny (currently wearing a 40D). I wear an XL in most tops but could fit into some 1X tops as well.

I can't wait to not have this funny post-baby body!!!

I swear, I live in some strange, alien world of cloth sizes.

5'5'
159 LBS

size 12 in womens, 13/14 or 15/16 in jrs, 34 to 36 in mens jeans.

That I can live with, but I will rarely get out of an XL top, due to the girls.

10/12/14 in skirts. Gotta be bigger for dresses, gotta fit the girls!

Where do all of you buy those skinny sizes?:dizzy:

I find this interesting how different eveyone is! I went through everyone my height and close to my size and the weights were all over the place.

Im 5'-2"
Current Weight 158lbs
Pants: some 8s mostly 10s
Dresses: 8
Shirts S/M

I think I would be in all 8s if I didnt have such massive leg muscles, thanks to being a gymnast growing up.
