Good morning!

OK here's my assessment for the last three weeks. I'm averaging between 1300 and 1400 cals. I've gone well over my exercise ticker and ... and ... I've lost 7.4 pounds!!

Have a good October everyone!

Hello all, I'm just going to jump in here. Congrats Susan on your loss. Right now, I can't find much time for exercise. I get up at 5:45 to get my oldest on her school bus, then I get my toddler ready for daycare, then we leave. I also work at the daycare, so I have a fairly active job, working with four year olds. After work, I pick up the girls and head home with hubby. Cook dinner, spend time with the girls. Put them to bed, pass out an hour later and start it all again the next day. So, I am starting off slow and maybe I can squeeze in some exercise when I am on a better track. I am going to make myself some small goals, this seems to work for me.

For the next two weeks.

I will drink 4 glasses of water a day.
I will stop eating after dinner.
I will cut my portions by 25%.
I will seriously think before shoving food in my gullet due to habit and boredom.
I will be accountable and check in here daily.

I think I can handle this. Thanks for having me guys!
Dana

Hey Everyone. I'm working to lose 10lbs this month. I've joined the October Weight loss and Exercise challenges to help motivate me. I have worked out every day this week so far, although last night I got 10 minutes in and quit - but then rethought that decision and got back to it for another 20 minutes. Part of my exercise goals is to start the C25K and so I plan to do that today while my kiddo is taking her nap (and daddy is here to watch her).

Congrats Susan on your loss for September - I saw your post on the September board. Way to Go!

I hope everyone has a great day and an awesome October!

Happy October! It's a beautiful month in MI when it's not raining, so I'm going to get started with a little walking/running, and get back into the pool at least twice a week.

I'm in a Halloween challenge with my 40+ chickies, and I intend to hit the end of my ticker by then. I promised myself an iPod Touch at 150.0 and my DS10 is cheering me along (he wants to play with it, of course). Not sure about what to do after 150 - there's still going to be fat to remove and muscle to build. Maybe move to an inch-reduction mode ...

Measuring ... hmmm ... I have that recorded somewhere. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow after work.

Today wasn't as good calorie wise but I was just so ravenous all day, I think it's because yesterday was leg day and I worked them pretty hard so I was needing extra food... It was all clean food but 1800 cals of it

:carrot: wow Susan!

I am still walking, I take the dogs everyday, and am moving at a fast clip. Today I ran all over the park with them :) felt good.

I am eating well but seem to be losing a bit of weight, my body does this as the weather cools. I am now 128lbs and holding.

Funny that all my weight is centered in my mid section so when a pound comes off it makes a big difference in my jeans, they get looser.

Here's to a nice fall so we can be outside running and walking :)

I surprised myself by getting outside and walking for 42 minutes at a pretty good clip. DS10 was at swim practice and I couldn't stand the thought of sitting in the bleachers. I'd have gone longer but it was getting dark! I'll only have a couple of weeks to do this because the time change is coming and it'll be even darker ... but it did feel good to be outside. Time to wrestle the treadmill out of the corner, I guess!

Good mornin' girls TGIF !! It's nice that it's Friday but for me that means the danger zone when it comes to food and wine  .... DH is on call though so this would be the best weekend not to drink, no temptations, we don't go out... The only temptation is if my GF comes over....I'll do the best I can...

ICU -- Good for you for getting out and walking ...

Let's be careful out there !!

My last 15 pounds are driving me crazy...it's really true that they are the hardest to lose. The scale seems to hover between 143 and 145...it dipped down to 141, but i think 1200 calories was causing my body to cling to every calorie. I've started exercising more, but it doesn't seem to help.

Yesterday i had a bad day, and i was tired of seeing the scale refusing to move. I had a really really bad eating day. The first time in a while i let counting go out the window. I didn't binge though...which makes me feel like i've improve. I'm also back on track today...but up 2 pounds :(

I feel like i should be upping my calories to more 1200..but i'm scared to go over that number. I need to bust through this plateau!!!

Happy Friday Feathers! I've done well this week with workouts and eating... but tonight we're going out for Mexican... and I absolutely cannot resist cheese dip... And I usually have a brew or two, too... oye vey! I always do my workouts after my LO goes to bed so my goal is to not stuff myself sick so I can still get in a good workout tonight! I'm going to try to only eat half of what they put on my plate. Grand Cayman is just around the corner - less than 5 weeks away - so I'm going to try to keep that in mind while we're out.

Mandi -- instead of more calories can you intensify your workouts?

I did have wine last night plus my day food wise wasn't great, but I'm back on track today, eventhough I didn't exercise yet, I did informal exercise like housework  ... Food is spot on so far today too... I made a lentil casserole  tastes like baked beans so we're having that for supper along with broccoli and salmon, can't wait :D

Mostly a housework day with family coming for dinner tonight but got the dogs walked already.

Have a productive week :)

Ilene - Mexican is my weakness... I had one brew and I ordered a shrimp & black bean burrito... which sounds relatively healthy... till they bring it out smothered in melted cheese! I ate about half of it then just picked the remaining shrimp out and at them without all the other stuff. When I got home, I was able to pull off a pilates workout then did another 10min stretch workout because I was so sore from a kickboxing workout from the previous day.

Yesterday I was an "off day" workout wise, and I noticed I eat worse on those days. Today I behaved - got in one workout so far (one more to go tonight) and ate relatively well. Not sure how weigh-in will be tomorrow... we shall see. If I can remember, I'm going to have DH measure me too to compare to my early Sept stats.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Poor couple of weeks for me - My fiancé and I polished off a bottle of wine that had been give to us to celebrate our engagement. There was also chocolate and too much bad food and I put on 2 lb!! Almost got back to ticker this morning - 136.4!

I also found out I didn't get into the 2010 London marathon :(

But there is another one not far from me in May next year so I am going to try for that one. Not televised and not as high profile as the London one - but it's still 26.2 miles. I officially started my marathon training programme again yesterday also. I have been running of course since we got back from Spain but had to ease back into it gently after a month off.

I'm with Susan Robsia, I'm impressed with your efforts.

Yesterday started out great, as it usually does, but I finished it with a slice of homemade apple pie and ice cream. The good news is that is the last slice!

Hi Ilene, Susan & Sodiumlightbaby.

Yes, I am better now and started having hunger!!! I couldn't resist and ate two breads already. :( I know I have to reduce the white bread, oh, but it was too much. I tried to have the salad, but I didn't feel full after it. I was in college and I used to bring my lunch, and this time I felt too less. I hope its only the aftereffect of the fever and I surely overcome it once I restart jogging again.

Hope you having a wonderful day!!

Today has been not so good - I was out running around and forgot to eat lunch before I left the house and found my car pulling into KFC! But I made up for it this evening by making chicken stirfry for dinner. I also finished Week 1 of C25K! Whooo Hooo! I plan to do 30 minutes of strenght trainining here in the next 15 minutes or so, too.

Lekshiprasanth - Glad you're feeling better!

Hi everyone!

Susan, congratulations on your last few weeks! 7.4 pounds, awesome. Just a quick question from a newbie: when you say you've been averaging 1300 cals, is that intake or net? Just trying to figure out what I should be shooting for! I did my food and exercise journal online today and apparently I ate 1980 cals, but with my exercise (50 minutes brisk hill walking, 2x 30 day shred session) it was 1251 net. Is this too high to lose? What do the rest of you aim for?

:?:

Sarah

Ilene
10-07-2009, 10:32 AM
 kiakaha :welcome:

When I average 1800 calsl I gain weight and I exercise a LOT, some days twice... I try to have an intake of 1300-1500 to lose weight, any extra exercise is just gravy... I think most do it this way too...

Yesterday was a super good food (1300 cals) and exercise day... I aim to do the same today...

Good morning, everyone! I wad down 2 lbs this morning so I'm VERY excited! I know it's probably water weight but just to see a lower number is inspiring :) So, what's assessment day? Is that for everyone?

srmb60
10-07-2009, 04:50 PM
My average calories? That's just what I eat.

I know I eat too much so I count calories.
I know I don't move enough so I track my cardio minutes.
I know weight lifting builds strong muscle and bones so I do it.

Figuring out how many calories you use is such an inexact science ... I don't even bother trying.

srmb60

Crunch time my darlings.

When the going gets tough, tough featherweights turn to measurements.

My weight stats are not good, despite averaging 1363 cals per day and elliptical more than 6 days per week.
Don't get me wrong, I have lost weight over the last four weeks, just not this week and that messes up my nice downward trend. This is when I normally would have become befuddled and lost my grip. However ....

Measurements!!! I lost bust, waist, hips and thighs! Gained bicep and must have transcribed something wrong because I'm pretty sure I didn't increase my calves by 3"
The best? Waist -1 3/4 inches!!!

kiakaha
10-08-2009, 09:54 AM
Good work Susan! Thankfully, those scale numbers aren't written on our foreheads or anything, so I reckon they're pretty pointless beyond a basic accountability thing. Measurements on the other hand - well, thats out there for the world to see. You sound like you're doing amazingly in that department (Popeye calves or not!).

ICUwishing
10-08-2009, 01:49 PM
SusanB - most impressive inch losses! Wow! And yes, a 3" calf gain is a little suspect. :)
Robsia - best wishes for your successful training!
kia - hi, I'm new too!
lekshmi - please send some healing vibes my way once you're done with them! Looks like you're back to plan with a vengeance!
Ilene - and the holiday planning and strategies? Would love to hear how you go about it ...
sodium - mmmm apple pie. :)
amy - KFC scares me. Do they have anything that "works"?
mandyt - hi!

I'm sneaking/peeking toward what I had for an original goal, so I'm thinking about the next one. I put a deadline of Monday morning on figuring out what I'm going to tackle next. It feels like time to look away from the scale, because I need to get serious about getting stronger. Hmmmm. I'm not even sure if measurements will work, because I don't know where I'll end up. Time to get creative!

so this is my first post in this part (i hope that's ok, i'm still trying to figure out how this site works). i intended for october to be my month of starting to diet and i have 20 lbs to lose. it was just my birthday, so i thought it would be a good time. then i came down with the flu. so i'm all sick, have two cakes in the fridge AND it's (canadian) thanksgiving this weekend!yikes!
i'm trying to do the best i can though and am using the sick time to try and figure out what the best eating/exercise plan is for me. (still haven't figured that one out...)
reading all your posts about your progress is really inspiring me!

WTG Susan!! Well done!

ICUwishing - I still can't get away from the scale - it rules my life! I take measurements too, but it's still my weight that I consider the most important - measurements just come along for the ride. I just wish my boobs didn't go down when I get to this stage!

jiggles77 - welcome to the site and to the Featherweights forum! Being sick is never a good time to diet as your body needs fuel to fight the illness. Why not try just eating sensibly while you are sick but not cutting down too much- that way you don't actually put anything on, but you aren't depriving your body of fuel?

I got my whoosh today - 135.2!! Yay me.

Hey there Ladies.

I hope you don't mind me dropping by. I am really *wanting* to get into the 120's. It is time! I know what is required of me to get there. If I want it badly enough, I know it will happen.

Typically I run 4 miles. I have also been mixing up some crosstraining with it--indoor rock climbing and tennis. I have to say I wish I liked Tennis more. My interest is waning. On the other hand, I love the rock climbing. I guess I like the intensity of the climb--just the same as the running. It feels good.

To be in the 120's would give me a nice comfort zone. At the moment, I do not feel at liberty to largely indulge in something with limited nutritional value. I do have indulgences now but vastly limit them. Before I began my journey, one of my most favorite things was Mexican food--and not the healthy kind. I would like to have a plate of it again sometime.

Anyway, thank you for reading my ramble. I hope you don't mind me dropping in.

I would also like to ask a question. If you have stats near mine, where is your calorie intake right now? What is your workout? Thanks a million Fweights!

Welcome TBG. I know what you mean. I like ideally to be in a range where if I gain 5 lbs it's no big deal rather than being at goal and feeling overweight if I gain a little. I eat 1350 or less and work out daily alternating cardio (3 miles of jogging) and weights).

I just dropped another 5 lbs! ... for 10 lbs total! It's taken me 12 weeks, but so worth it!

Happy Monday everyone!

Hi, TBG! I'm about your height but I'm a long way from your weight! Amy looks to be close, though - maybe she's got some input? Honestly, I don't feel even close to qualified to comment on anybody's program because mine is a little fringey - I've learned that I need quite a lot of fat in my diet to beat the hungries. I'm just beginning to get serious about exercising again, so things are likely to change. I expect to be needing to adjust up my protein.

SusanB - Each day is an opportunity to go to bed feeling good about what we did, and to learn about what works! Hey ... in my book, not backsliding IS a form of going forward! :)

Amy, nice job with the running! I'm jealous of your living in NC - I just visited Raleigh and everybody was out walking and running - lots of healthy-looking people!

jayjay - well expressed! I am hoping to bust out of the 150s and then get far enough into the 140s to never have to look at 150 again. I just wish I knew which direction the scale's going to go when I start swimming ... oh well!

Time to get things going for the day. Be well, everyone!

Welcome TBG! I am close to your height/weight and I'm aiming for the 120's too - but I don't really track calories - I just try to not eat a bunch of crap. I do keep a food diary just to help keep me on track - but I don't go to the trouble of looking up calories/fat/etc... If I had to guess, I'd say I eat between 1300-1500 calories. I work out 6 days/week - three days of C25K, and 6 days of exercise videos. My scale is currently saying 133 but I have a feeling that once my bloating goes away from TOM, I'll have a "swoosh" and drop down to maybe 131. As of now I've lost 4lbs in the past 30 days-ish, but my body is looking 100% better - "much leaner and more toned" - per my DH! :) . And just today I tried on a skirt I haven't been able to wear in about 8 years and it fit!

Hope everyone else is doing great - I've got to run but will be back later with more personals!

Hi everyone,
I am new to 3FC and I would love to join in on the support. I can't seem to get my act together on my own! I have yo-yo'd for years (never getting too heavy, thank god) but I just can't get on track this time. I am a late-night binge and emotional eater. I do pretty good all day and then go nuts once the kids are in bed. It is like it is the only way I know how to nurture myself--and the more I do it, the more I reinforce the behavior. My sweetie is right there with me, but he is so active he can eat and eat and eat.

Usually I start counting calories and go on a binge-free plan and lose the weight, but then I can't maintain.

I would love to drop 10lbs or so and be free of this insanity.

Karen

Morning!

I got called in to work yesterday where one of the dr's wives brought us Thanksgiving dinner. Oh my gosh it was delicious!
But apparently work was hectic enough to counteract it. The scale is down this morning ;)

I have nothing ready for my work lunches this week, so I'd better do that today.

thanks for all the welcoming messages everyone! i was away all weekend for thanksgiving...2 thanksgiving dinners!i am way too scared to get on the scale.but i feel like in a few days my flu will be all gone. so trying to figure everything out with a diet. i'm not exactly sure what to do...i wish i could just eat well without too many restrictions but i have a huuuuge appetite ( like, bigger than the bf and all my male friends) and i think i'll do better with something structured. any suggestions?

Good morning!

Hi new people!

I've got nothing fabulous to report. I've been a terrible nibbler lately and haven't even tried to put that in fitday. Yesterday was some better. Not good food but better amounts and I didn't inhale them ;)

KarenLee - welcome! Support: here. Wisdom: here. Learning: here. Opportunities for advice: here. And, SUCCESS: HERE!!! You and sweetie need to find a new routine for the kid-bedtime. My "bad time" has always been the time between hitting the door from work, and when dinner starts. You need a new ritual to replace the nibbling, that's all. The eating isn't "nurturing" - it's just a dumb habit. Nurturing would be a nice bath, going to bed early with the sweetie (also burns calories), or something else that feels really good but doesn't require chewing. :) I'm sure you'll get other great suggestions here.

Ilene - yup, back at it! Holidays are a challenge - I'm searching for Tgiving strategies already, and it's 6 weeks away! :)

SusanB - oh, that's the best ... when the scale does something a bit unexpected in the GOOD direction! :D

jiggles - I had horrible problems with hunger and self-sabotage until I started eating a lot more good fat - yes, fat! I snack on avocadoes, nuts, seeds ... and yes, I don't get to eat for volume, but I never get hungry. Plus, my dry skin, fingernails and hair went away. I'm an ex-jock, so I was used to eating huge too and that's what got me into my highest weight. I had to unlearn that - and it took a food scale to do it. Good luck!

Huge, huge day for me yesterday. Not only did I hit the scale goal, but I also learned at the doctor's office that my scale is 2.5 pounds heavy! And this morning, I hit 25 pounds off for the year - which means I can now buy my iPod Touch. :D I credit 3FC for darn near all of it - and I'm hooked! Having failed many a time on my own - THANK YOU to everyone here!

Congrats ICU! Go get that new iPod! You deserve it!

I've been eating pretty well but I didn't get a chance to exercise yesterday because I spent all my free time preparing for an interview I had this morning (cross your fingers!). Yesterday was supposed to be a c25k day but that didn't happen and then it rained all day today, so it STILL didn't happen. I did do a couple short workouts this evening and I TRIED to do more but my legs were on fire! So I'm hanging up my workout gear and going to bed!

today wasn't too bad for me...although since thanksgiving any day without pie is a good one! (my boyfriend and i got sent home with LOTS of leftovers)...and still too sick to exercise/diet....

ilene-are two thanksgiving dinners the worst ?(and best...) at least now there's a big stretch between now and the next holidays...

ICU-a food scale is a great idea. and congratulations! how inspiring. i think it's so awesome that you set up a reward like that.

Hi Featherweights! I'm just trudging along with diet and exercise but after 12 weeks my motivation is fading a little. Still I want to get rid of the muffin top! -- going to a store and trying on clothes helped motivate me a little. With even another 5 lbs off I would look and feel so much better.

ICUwishing -- congrats on the 25 lbs loss and getting into the 140s! ... and you are even below goal! That is so fantastic and you so deserve an iPod!

ShrinkingAmy -- I think "lean and more toned" certainly beats just losing weight. IMO it's really just feeling better not the scale that's the most important and sounds like you are really making progress there!

KarenLee -- welcome! just take baby steps ... eating healthy and watching portions should help you lose those 10 lbs. I really don't think anything radical is necessary. Could you try eating something healthy as a late night snack? Maybe oatmeal? I know that sounds a bit crazy but my mother, very slim, always eats oatmeal as an evening snack. Me, I'm not a snacker.

Ilene -- congrats on surviving Thanksgiving!

SusanB -- wow! you have made great progress on weight loss and exercise in the last month!

jiggles -- welcome! congrats on surving Thanksgiving too! pie is my weakness too, be strong!

Jayjay - I know what you mean... if it weren't for my upcoming beach trip, I would have already fallen off the wagon 10 times over - I've never been this motivated in my life - getting fit is hard work, and frankly not much fun! Yeah, some of it can be fun, but for the most part, not really! Hang in there. I'm with you on the 5lb muffin top! That's what I need to hit more than anything! Everything else is looking nice then I have this big tire o' fat around my waist! And I don't know what to do about it. I'm thinking the more cardio I can do, the better. Let me know what seems to work best for you!

Today for me was pretty good - ate pretty well and finished week 2 of c25k and did a little over a half hour of additional work outs this evening. I usually take Friday's off (date night), but I took yesterday off so I need to make sure to get a work out in tomorrow no matter what. I should really do it while DD is napping instead of napping myself!

I got a new Oxygen magazine yesterday but never got at it until today. I should find a mag that will come every week ... I find it soooo motivating!

I'm going to look after my grandbaby this weekend. Since I have to make her what she eats, I can make me what I want :D
We'll go for walks ... DD has some exercise equipment ... should be a good weekend (for a change)

hi featherweights!

jumping in here, if you all don't mind... been lurking around for a while.

I've been a really good girl lately and exercising every day (running, weight training, and recently started running HIIT) and eating a diet of mostly vegetables, lean meats, protein, etc. It's not hard to do because I'm back home (Japan) with my family and home cooked meals are the best! I just pick what I want out of the meal, and eat slowly, and move away from the dinner table before dessert hits. Been home for a month, probably will be here through the holidays. Normally I live in San francisco with my boyfriend, dog, and two cats (the one pictured is Ollie). :)

Anyway, I'm on a plateau. 132 is a wonderful place to be, and I feel good, fit, healthy, but there's no doubt I have more fat to give away! (don't you wish you could just give away your fat to someone who wants it?? magically, of course)

BUT being patient and seeing the same number every morning is hard...

Wanna join in here and hang out with you guys so I can keep swimming along. Thanks!

Amy - best wishes for the interview! Did it go well? Hope the good night's sleep helped your legs! Re the fat burning - consider some high-speed interval training. I have Dr. Al Sears' PACE book, and he strongly advises against too much cardio. His program only takes 20 minutes a day, which is all that I'm willing to devote to it. It's intense, though! I don't believe a nap is ever wasted time ... naps rule!

jiggles - sorry you're not feeling well. The cold I had last week did the same thing to me - nothing that was even remotely healthy sounded edible. Vegetables were totally out of the question! Heal yourself and jump back in. :)

jayjay - thank you, it's been a long slow crawl and I wouldn't want to forget a single minute of it. :) The magic bullet has been 3FC and the constant encouragement. I can relate to the muffin top - I'm wondering which pound I have to lose to make that go away! It wasn't the one this morning, cuz I have no clue where that one came from!

SusanB - have fun with the grandbaby! That time really is fleeting and she's lucky to have a grandma who can keep up with her!

chicken - welcome on board, I'm new to this thread too. It's taken me all year to drop 25, so yes, I can empathize with the same number hanging around too long. I'll be curious to hear if the HIIT does the trick for you!

I'm expecting a good weekend. DS10 and I will be swimming tonight. I have a party to go to tomorrow ... those are still a challenge for me because I'm a social foodaholic. I know all the right strategies but it's going to be a while yet before I can trust myself to do the right things.

My father in law passed away and so we are back in India for one month. I am staying somewhere where the 24 hr internet without connection failures remains a dream!!! I couldn't contact you all for some time now. I only wish I could stay in touch with all of you soon.

I will be here when I come back to Germany again. Miss you!!

Well done to all the losers! Sorry to hear about your FIL lekshmiprasanth!

I have been struggling to run this week as I fell out with my mum and she normally watches my little girl for me while I go running. I think I have managed to arrange things for next week so I can train as I need to, but I have only managed one out of my four planned runs this week!

I lost 0.6 lb so all is not bad. I know it's not much but it's better than nothing.

sorry to hear that, lekshmiprasanth.

last night I indulged in a nice dinner + dessert for the first time in weeks, we all shared 3 different types of delicious cake. There was an entire half of a slice of chocolate cake left, and I decided, I'd had my fill, better to stop now while I'm still feeling good than stuff myself just because it's there. But I felt sad leaving it behind!

Anyway, I step on the scale this morning expecting to see the consequences and lo and behold, I've lost a whole pound!! After seeing the same number (or higher) for a long time, I was more than surprised.

Our bodies are the strangest things... maybe it's the HIIT workouts?

Hope everyone is having a great day!

thanks everyone for all the support! i'm really enjoying 3fc so far. i can't wait till i can have one of those signatures with the weight goals...love those.
so i'm finally healthy and finished all the thanksgiving/birthday stuff.
tomorrow (along with school midterms) i start the diet and the exercising.
i bought a digital scale. i think it'll be better for me than my old analog; being able to see fractions of pounds lost and such. i'm also starting the fat smash diet and i have a bunch of exercise videos. i'm excited but nervous. the last time i tried a diet i ended up only losing a pound after two weeks and was totally grouchy and lost my patience all the time with my boyfriend. so i gave up. i'm hoping that being on 3fc and having people to talk to and get/give support will be a big help this time round.
wish me luck!!!

I had a loss over the weekend girls! I'm pretty happy (despite the cold I caught) I can even change that little goal thing over there <<< in my profile!

ShrinkingAmy
10-19-2009, 11:14 AM
lekshmiprasanth - I'm sorry for your loss. Travel safe.

Robsia - Sorry you're having difficulties with your mum. But congrats on already working out arrangements for the week!

chickennugget - I'm with you - I hate to see perfectly good cake go to waste! But congrats on holding strong!

My eating this weekend wasn't bad but exercise was not so hot - just one C25K, W3D1 run and that was it... We had company over on Saturday so I spend the morning cleaning, doing laundry - stuff that I had been putting off and really really needed to do -especially with company coming over! then Sunday I was just down right tired, my back was hurting from TOM and I just needed to rest so I went to bed early. I'm hoping for a better, more productive week. I know there's no way I can safely get down to 125 by my vacation on Nov 4th, so I'm slightly altering my goals for 125 to be my Thanksgiving weight, and hoping for 129.9 (under 130!) by November 4th. I also will need your help not falling off the wagon once I come back from vacation since it's been my #1 motivator.

chickennugget126
10-20-2009, 11:09 PM
Susan - a post-weekend loss is pretty much the hardest thing for me. so CONGRATS! That should make staying OP on weekdays easy as pie for you. It's the lack of routine that throws me off.

Amy - I think cleaning and laundry and such is totally a workout. You're moving so much more than you think... so don't discredit that! I'm like, sweating after a good vacuum session... lol.

jiggles - that's great that you are starting your new healthy lifestyle! We are all here to support you.

Finally, I seem to be moving slowly past this plateau I've been on for like, a month! It's so weird to see a different number on the scale. Like I didn't think it was possible...

Had a good weight-lifting workout yesterday, and my body is sore in that good way. Not sure what I'll do today, kind of feel like resting but after seeing my scale loss this morning, I'm motivated to go for a run!

I also got a new pair of earphones, by the brand Sennheiser. I've gone through SO MANY crappy earphones for running, it's disheartening. My ridiculous sweating during my run causes most earphones to short out after a while, or the earphones slip out every 2 seconds, or they hurt my ears after a while. I'm sure you guys have experienced similar things if you like to listen to your iPod while you run. GRRRR!! What a waste of money.

Have a great day, chickies.

Today I think I was way too low on my calories... not on purpose, but I got sidetracked and ate an apple and split a banana with my daughter not realizing it was noon so I wasn't hungry for lunch... so that WAS my lunch. I would be lucky if I got 1000 cals in today. I probably also had too much sodium in my dinner but I've drank TONS of water (with crystal light packets) all day so hopefully that will flush all the sodium out!

Exercises - I took DD for a walk and our neighborhood is VERY hilly so pushing her in her stroller about broke me on a couple hills! But she enjoyed the time outside and I enjoyed being out with her showing her squirrels and stuff, huffing and puffing away - plus it was a BEAUTIFUL day. THen I went and did my W3D2 of C25K which was for some reason harder than W3D1... I think I may have started off a bit too fast. Then this evening I did an upper body/arm/ab workout so I pulled off 100 minutes today!

Amy ... I pushed a stroller all weekend and I really think that is my secret (Ilene).

Agghhh. Today I tried to sprint and realized that both my quad muscles are injured - pulled, I'm assuming - and now I'm sitting here with my feet up, ice bags on my quads.
It's not bad, I can jog. But I'm gonna take it easy for the next couple days, and see how it goes.

I think I've been overtraining, and not allowing my body to fully recover from my hard workouts. I need to work on that. I tend to go pretty hard, and "challenge" myself each time, which can result in fatigue and in this case, injuries :(

Dog walks shall be my exercise for a while. :)

I was under calories yesterday and hunted high and low for the perfect evening snack. Somebody needs to buy some groceries! I ended up nibbling a few walnuts. Plus 30 minutes on the elliptical ... not a bad day. Not bad at all.

Living with my mother (temporarily) can be so frustrating sometimes!!! There can only be one queen of the house, naturally. And she likes to control things unless I take a firm stance. Then she'll say I'm being harsh. I can't believe I was able to keep my cool for 18 years...

She's an amazing, loving, caring mother, but she's also tirelessly critical, controlling, judgmental of things/people and downright mean to my father sometimes :( (telling him he's too fat, making fun of him, etc, all in "good fun" - yeah right!)

I think part of the reason is that we're SO close. Like, we'll react to things by saying the same thing. Or just "get" each other, no explanation needed. When it's good, it's great, and we're like best friends (omg does that mean I've also inherited her mean traits?? Maybe...) But you can imagine what it was like growing up a chubby child under her eagle eye... *shudder*

Sorry, totally OT and maybe TMI but had to get it out.

Not OT at all! Our environment has a huge bearing on our healthy endeavours.

Good morning! I'm there! A healthy BMI! And I will be getting those yoga pants this morning!

While I do feel slightly sheepish because this is not the first time I've done this, I am happy. Regain is soooo common and my reasons/excuses no better/worse than anyone else's.
I pop all over this board telling people to keep on trying, you've not failed until you stop trying ... I'd better make myself a sturdier source of encouragement!

SusanB - Congratulations on returning to "healthy"! May your stay be permanent!

I need to read back and catch up - please forgive the short post. My post-goal week was a little too relaxed, so I've reset slightly lower to get well into the 140's. I figure it might take the rest of the year - that's fine - but I can't go into the holidays with a maintenance mindset. I don't have the good habits down well enough yet!

Susan - way to go on hitting "healthy"!

ICU - great plan - if you know you can't handle maintenance yet, this is the smartest thing you could have done!

I'm doing OK here, got in my exercise today and ate reasonably well. Going to be going to a festival tomorrow so I'll be walking around a lot. I need to get back into my workout videos though because my body is requesting squats and lunges for some reason... I feel like I need to get back on that horse. I also take back anything negative I've ever said about running. I ran two rounds of W3D3 of C25K today for a total of 1hr including my walk to/from the park. Even though it just about killed me, I felt GREAT afterward. I may become a runner yet.

Hi everyone. I have been totally disastrous for the last few weeks - bit of a stress reaction to being told I might be made redundant. It's by no means definite but the financial climate here is desperate and I have a government funded job and the public sector is about to be radically reduced. Hey ho.

It's still a rubbish excuse though. I'd already got dressed and had two cups of tea this morning before I thought about the scales so I shall have to weigh another time. I reckon I'm back up to 158-160 ish and accordingly have moved my ticker to educated guess Can't see it getting much better either as long before the job axe threat I'd booked a 4 day city break which starts this Friday so that's not particularly encouraging either. I suppose it is what you make it. I want to shift 10lbs by Christmas.

Hi Doughnut! Sorry to hear that you're stressed. Remember that we are here for you.

I decided against rummaging through my too-small clothing for something to wear to church this morning. This is fine. I bought it all a few weeks ago and no longer need the 'special' panties under it so ...
I had a bit of a blip on the scale this morning. Between that and struggling to find proper foundation garments to fit into one of my suits would have been discouraging, I think. Setting myself up for sadness ???
So, I'm not doing it.

Hello Jiggles - I just recently started running. Back in August I walked/jogged (more walk than jog) pretty much every day for a month but wasn't seeing much so I fell off the wagon - then 3 weeks ago I started C25K and that has been the answer for me - it pushes me to run until it tells me to walk so I can't just wimp out and walk when I feel like it. You will find posts from me from just a week or so ago cursing running but somehow over the last week, I've started really enjoying it - probably has something to do with the results I'm seeing! I start Week 4 today and am a little nervous about the schedule. I find my head is much more leary about running than my body actually is... I have to fight to keep negative thoughts out of my head.

hi amy- thanks for the info! i had seen you post about c25k before and had no idea what you were talking about. i googled it and it looks awesome! in fact i think i might start tomorrow. (even though i'm not sure i can run for even a minute...) did you download any of the podcasts to run along to? if so, which ones?

jiggles - the podcasts I use are here: http://gonicoleyourself.blogspot.com/ - they are the best I've found because they are current music that I can stand listening to - for some weeks she even has 2 or 3 podcasts to choose from. I know that the ipod touch has a C25K app if you have one of those, but I don't so I don't know how good it is. THere's also a thread under Exercise - "C25K - how do I know if I'm ready to move on" (http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/exercise/172039-c25k-how-do-i-know-im-ready-move-23.html) dedicated to C25K and there's lots of good info there. Good luck!

amy-thanks so much! i checked out those podcasts and they look awesome. i'm really excited to start. either today or tomorrow. (because it is pouring rain right now and supposed to be sunny tomorrow.)
Doughnut- i'm really sorry to hear about how stressful it is with your job right now. just don't be too hard on yourself.

That's exciting jiggles!

I had a good day yesterday, even though DH made dinner. We had another couple in and she eats very daintily so I did too. But his roasted potatoes were sooo good! I could have eaten a lot more!

I really could use one good weights workout. I might need to keep that in mind for later today.

I "logged in" to my Wii Fit yesterday since Oct. 9 and it told me I've lost close to 5 pounds! I've been recording my weight, but to see the Wii tell me was a big reward. So yesterday I went clothes shopping and bought a new jacket :)

Yesterday I bought Jillian Michael's 30 day shred. Anybody here tried it? I keep reading about how it will kick your butt, and is really really good. I might try it out tonight.

It's going to get harder and harder to lose weight now that I'm closer to goal (according to my experience - I've done this many times lol)
Time to put on my patience hat.

Jiggles - congrats! glad you started! I'm having a similar problem as you had yesterday - it rained allll day today so I have to do W4D2 tomorrow!

Susan - excellet work on limiting those potatoes! Those darn dainty eaters... I have a friend like that and I feel like a horse next to her - not size wise, just the way I shovel food into my mouth compared to the 50 times she chews each and every bite - very slow and calm! lol!

Chickennugget - I've done 30DS and it soooo does kick your butt... big time!

For me... Vacation is a week from tomorrow and I've lost all my willpower to keep working out and eating right... I managed to get my butt infront of the TV at 11:30 PM and did 32 minutes worth of workout videos... as I mentioned above, it was raining allll day so I didn't get my C25K in. C25K is the only workout I seem to enjoy these days... I can't stop working out now... I've got to wear a bikini next Wednesday - I refuse to wear the tankini that I wore when I was prego! NO WAY! I know that I realisticlly could lose two pounds by then if I put my head (and body!) to it. Since it's going to be nice tomorrow, I'm planning to take my DD for a walk in her stroller through our hilly neighborhood and then do C25K when DH gets home from work. If I can also fit in another hour of workouts, that should help. I should have watched biggest loser tonight... that show always inspires me! I'll have to watch the DVR tomorrow!

Good morning!

I'm pretty proud of going over my exercise ticker for October! And that reminds me how close we are to the first of November!!!

amy - head down and focus! 7 days is a tiny blip in time compared to what you've already done, and you know how to make this happen. Get your groove back and go into the vacation with the "winning loser" attitude!

susan - I can relate to the dilemma of tight-fitting new sizes. They just bring up too many bad memories of being fat ... why set yourself up for remembering those times? Soon they'll be fitting like a glove, and you can feel fabulous! Kudos on the exercise and on the restraint with the potatoes - you are strong physically AND mentally!

jiggles - I'm watching your entry into running with much interest. :) I love swimming madly, but running is so much more portable and there are so many more people to lean on for support!

chicken - good luck with the 30DS. It sounds like a killer! I used to do the Firm's video - the Susan Harris one. We fondly referred to it as "the yellow b**ch video". That one ... wow ... there were days I could hardly climb the stairs out of the basement when I was done! Agree with you on the patience hat, too ... every half pound is a major victory these days. :)

I haven't been posting much lately, and that's probably why I'm back in a stall again. Posted a new ticker to keep the number in my face - I guess I'm bracing myself to go back into the "weight loss" mode. Definitely having fun pulling old clothes WAY out of the back of the closet, but the grim part is that it's been so darn long, and my self-image has changed so much, that I don't WANT to wear a lot of them! Going to have to brace myself for some shopping, I think. I haven't come to grips yet with the idea that I don't HAVE to wear relaxed-fit pants any more.

Good morning girls  ...

ICU -- wow pulling clothing from the back of the closet is always fun

Amy -- Did you go out for your walk today? I love the c25k

Susan -- Going above and beyond your exercise goal is great...

Nugget -- I do have the 30 shred I did it only once and found it was ok for an indoor workout when I can't get out... I love my gym and getting outdoors with my runs... DD uses it all the time and loves it...

Jiggles -- Isn't running fun? I love it! Congrats on starting...

I've been MIA for a couple of days with the flu, I don't think it was n1h1 but one never knows, for me it started on Sunday morning with a scratchy throat and by Sunday night I was draaaaging and Monday and Tuesday I was on my back... I feel 99.9% better this morning although I didn't go into work but I will tomorrow...

hi everybody!
susan - the dainty eaters drive me crazy! my mom is one...i am not!

amy-try to stay focused!i know it's easier said than done, but just try to picture yourself in that bikini and do something even if you don't feel like it.

icu-good luck going shopping. i can't wait til i can pull my clothes out from the back of the closet. congrats!!

ilene- that's good that you're feeling better. i feel like everyone is sick right now!try to take it easy til you feel 100%.

and thanks everybody for the support with the running. it's funny, i am the last person ever who would start running. my family members couldn't believe when i told them!i'm going on my second run either today or tomorrow, depending on the weather. which reminds me-all you runners-what do you do when the weather gets bad? i live in a very rainy city....
also, i got my ticker last night and had my first weigh in today and i lost 2 pounds! now the tough part is not giving up, because it's around now in the game that i usually do...

I noticed that majority of you don't have that much more weight to lose. My question is how many pounds are you guys losing a week now? Is it getting harder as you drop every pound?

ICUwishing
10-28-2009, 03:35 PM
goob, I've been losing 2-3 pounds a month since February. While I've been respectful of my calorie limits, I haven't gone out of my way to suffer with it either. :) One could describe my methods as "whim calorie-cycling" - I try to come in between 1200-1300 four days a week, and push 1700 one day a week. The other 2 fall somewhere in between. When I go a month without losing, I'll re-evaluate. My thought process was that I'd better find something I can live with, because I know for a fact that I do not "suffer gladly" when feeling deprived!

goob, those last ten pounds seemed to take forever and I almost settled for a higher goal but kept plugging away and one day I stepped on the scale and I was at goal.

Ilene
10-28-2009, 07:04 PM
Goob -- I've been losing the same 2-3 lbs for at least a year maybe more... it's really, really, did I say REALLY hard!!! Don't know how old you are but at 52 it's excruciatingly hard to lose the last 10... Heck, I'd be happy with 5

Jiggles -- I've run in warm rain in the summer time but I don't like cold damp rain like at this time of year... So when it rains I usually do intervals at the gym on the dreadmill, I dislike it but I do intervals and play mind games to get through the 40 mins, and 40 mins on the dread mill is about all I can take  ... Winter time is my favourite time of the year to run... Sunny, bright, windless, crisp winter days are the best, I wear layers of wicking clothing and I'm good...

My little bout with the flu has kept me breathless and tired, but I will go into work tomorrow, I only work the morning so it shouldn't be that hard on me...

Hello All,
Well Ilene, I didn't take my walk today (bad Amy!) but I made up for it with W4D2 of C25K, 30 Day Shred, and a pilates video. DD took almost a 4 hour nap today so it threw my planned schedule all off. DD must have been exhausted because she usually only naps for 2 hours max... hope she's not getting a cold or something! Maybe we'll get that walk in tomorrow!

Goob - same here, 2-3lbs per month... not fun!

jiggles - My family thinks I'm nuts too because even though I ran track in high school, I hated it and only did it because my friends ran... and I was TERRIBLE! So there have been some interesting comments from those who know me best! All in good fun though. As for bad weather - I did run in a cool drizzle (low 50's) one day but otherwise, since I don't belong to a gym, I just make my schedule flexible... I try to run Tues, Thurs and either Sat or Sun, depending on weekend plans. But this week I ran Sunday, Wednesday since it was POURING on Tuesday, and then I'll run Friday and Sunday provided the weather cooperates. Next week I'll be back on schedule - again weather permitting.

hi all,

susan - big high five for your October exercise! and I can't believe it's almost November... wow.

ilene - i'm glad you're feeling better, that flu is flying around here (japan) too and everyone's wearing masks like some kind of outbreak movie... scary!

amy - ahh how nice you'll be on a beach... regardless of how you'll look in a bikini, although I'm sure you'll look awesome. But I know what you mean. Maybe long walks on the beach will be a good workout while you're there?

jiggles - congrats on your running!!! I am a runner as well. I tend to go out in the rain, if I've already decided that I'm going to run that day... I'll wear a lightweight running cap to keep my face out of the rain, and that dry-fit wicking material - and if it's cold, another lightweight jacket on top of it. Just make sure you have another pair of shoes you can wear the next couple of days, because my shoes tend to get SOAKED and HEAVY afterwards and take forever to dry. I don't LOVE running in the rain but something about being out there, regardless of the bad weather, and usually having the streets to myself, and doing my thing is refreshing. I always hear my high school soccer coach on rainy days saying "Our bodies are waterproof! Now get out there and run!"

goob - I don't expect to lose any certain amount every week. At this point, I'm focusing more on improving my fitness and building muscle, and try not to be discouraged when the scale barely moves for weeks... but also, the smallest losses make big differences on your body, so it's very exciting.

icu - I totally know you mean by pulling old clothes out from the back of your closet, only to find that your tastes have changed... and the clothes just seem so OLD. Even if they now fit, it's like they've expired... bummer!!

So I thought I had purchased Jillian's 30 day shred, but then realized afterwards that it's a new one of hers, Banish Fat Boost Metabolism.. and I did my first workout today and I am now DEAD! I will be even more DEAD tomorrow morning, I know it. But I loved it, and plan on using it a couple times a week to supplement my other stuff. I recommend it because you don't need any weights or equipment, just your body. I had to put a towel down on the floor because I kept dripping sweat. Good stuff!!!!

woohoo Susan! that must have felt goooood :)

TOM for me. but haven't experienced cramps at all so far, maybe because I've been so active? my first TOM since I got off the bcpill, so I thought it would be bad... I had to go off the bcpill because it was causing (or one of the probable causes for) mood problems.

Happy Friday everyone. Oh wait it's still Thursday for you guys.

I am constantly amazed by how complex this shrinking thing is. Although I've wobbled aroung the same weight and bobbed in and out of a 'healthy weight' for a couple of weeks now ... I am shrinking.

It's too weird! And it's not just in my head. I've heard more comments in the last few days ...

How can we express to strugglers that it's not always the number on the scale that tells the tale?
How can we express that 'perfectly on plan' has nothing to do with this either? I haven't even begun to get persnickity about protein/carb/fat ratios yet. Even with exercise ... just get on the freakin' elliptical today ... is not much of a fitness plan ;)

Can we bottle and sell the 'oh please just try for a couple of weeks' plan????

Ilene
10-30-2009, 09:46 AM
I'll buy some of that Susan !!

Today I feel really good, I can now get back to a routine of exercise, food was good this week because I wasn't that hungry anyways...

I am down 2lbs this morning, again, the same 2 I lose weekly then gain on the w/end , let's see if I can keep them off this weekend... I can't drink because I am taking antibiotics so maybe that will help ...

ShrinkingAmy

Susan - Congrats on the size 4!! And I hear you on the scale issue... my scale refuses to budge but the clothes I've been wearing for the last 5 years are now too big so I've pulled out some of my skinny clothes from the depths of my closet. As much as I'd like to see that number drop accordingly, I can't complain about the changes in my body. And my eating plan is "try not to eat junk" and I workout/run 5 days/week... not exactly rocket science here.

Ilene - good luck keeping those 2lbs off this weekend! You can do it!

Things here are good - eating has been decent and I ran W4D3 of C25K today - whew... that has been a killer week... I'm almost looking forward to next weeks - on paper it looks slightly easier! My biggest problem is that the voices in my head throw out warnings "stop! you can't do this! you should walk! you're going to DIE!" but I keep going anyway and you know what? I survive! I have GOT to find a way to get that voice to shut up and just let me run. My body is fine... Am I winded? of course! but I'm not going to kill over or anything.

October summary time?

I've lost something like three pounds, which (like Amy) doesn't really coincide with how much slimmer I am. DH can't believe that's all.

I did not track the 3 or 4 days I super-over-ate, so (for what it's worth) my average is 1320 calories.

Fitday says I did have alcohol this month. I'll go back and see when and how much but ... I have a sorry notion that (not having) it probably coincides with a more decent loss.

I've done enough preening about exercise. I'm happy, yup.

I'll do a bit of thinking on all that and get back to you about November goals.

ETA ... I haven't had a drink since the 11th and yes that was my highest weight this month. Have lost more or less steadily since then .... sigh ...

ShrinkingAmy
10-31-2009, 10:43 PM
Well I'm only down 1.4lbs... but as we've discussed, I'm still happy! Hard to believe that tomorrow is November 1st! 4 days till I'm on my way to Grand Cayman! Woot woot! :carrot: I'm going to have a hard time staying anywhere near plan. I do plan to take workout duds and hit the gym at least twice, preferrably 3 times so I don't fall too far behind on C25K.

chickennugget126

I'm hoping once my TOM passes I'll have a bit of a drop on the scale, but I've gained a little in the meantime, I think due to water retention.

But I'm on my 4th consecutive day of doing Jillian's Banish fat boost metabolism workout, which I'm pretty proud about.

Oh it's November now... I guess there will be a new thread?

Amy - how exciting that your vacation is coming up!
