Happy
Thanks for the understanding about the travel time to my uncles. They really don't understand how far it is and what I have to do to prepare. After this week end I'm not going back until Thanksgiving.

Annie
I know exactly what you are gowing through. This sounds what my mom did with the congestive heart failure and kidney failure. Hugs, good vibes and prayers are being sent to you and your mom. Hang in there.

I'm completely finished with the bathroom and kitchen. WooHoo. I'm taking a break to go deposit the pay check and run some errands. I might stop in to see the doctor also with the lower back pain. I don't think I've over done any thing but usually whenever the weather changes the bones start to ache. If he mentions imflamation, I'm suggesting an x-ray.

Morning all,
It's all go here at the moment. DS2 has ants in his pants I think - the speed he is going. I'm taking a break from digging out the jasmine suckers around the fence area and discovered that the wrens and finches are building nests in the stuff where it has invaded the bottlebrush tree. So before I evicted the tenants I have given up for a while until it cools down somewhat. Now for some indoor work - does it ever end.

Annie - so, so sorry to hear about Mum. I hope for better news in a few days. Meantime stay strong for her and for the kids because I guess it will be you that picks up the pieces. :grouphug: I'm thinking of you.

Mel - It seems that all the oldies need some sort of advocate these days. No one seems to want to listen to their queries and worries. I hate to think how some of them get on when they are still living in their own housing here. There is something to be said for the Maori tradition of extended families and no doubt it also applies to the Native Americans. Yet the carers get so little for their efforts either from the family or the (should be) grateful government who would otherwise have to pay for their care.

Michelle - good to see you featuring in the newspapers! I was not impressed by the guy standing out there with the sign. We have Govt health care here and nothing we have or don't have is as bad as that queue that you stood in.

Thought had posted this much earlier. Seems not. Senility is creeping in. However I have been busy - grouting, cleaning, demolishing the fence.
We cleared 22 metres of fence (approx 66 feet) in less than 30 minutes. Took us longer to get it to the front of the block ready for loading on the ute. Only two more fence posts to get out. They are proving difficult, but will not withstand the onslaught of the might mallet and the foot in the morning.

HAVE A NICE WEEKEND EVERYONE. GOING TO REST AND MAYBE COOK SOME CHICKEN. FEELING SLEEPY STILL. I CAN SEE THERE WILL BE NO SUN ALL DAY. SO MIGHT AS WELL GET THE DVDS OUT!

ANNIE....WILL BE THINKING OF YOU AND MOM.

SHAD....THANK GOD WE HAVE MAINTENANCE MEN!! I CANNOT IMAGINE BEING A HOME OWNER AND HAVING TO GO THRU ALL THIS TO GET MY SPACE THE WAY I WOULD WANT IT. I AM MORE THE "POINT AND YOU DO" TYPE   HOPE THE WRENS AND FINCHES FIND A NEW HOME. HAPPY MALLETTING!!! I KNOW WITH YOU AROUND THERE IS NO POST SAFE!!!

Rainy Saturday morning here and I enjoyed getting a chance to catch up on the posts. :rain:

Mel – Did you ever get caught up on your laundry? Another yummy soup recipe to print out. And a bread recipe! Thanks for posting it. Just the time of the year to spend time in the kitchen, and I never have used the dough hook on my Kitchenaid mixer... Bf has decided to try his hand at sourdough bread and has gotten a starter going. He needs to remember to stir it each day. It's nice those seniors appreciate all you do, but you're either wearing yourself out helping them or worrying about them when you've got the DND sign on your door. Definitely continue to be the squeaky wheel, especially when you see those VIPs!! :drill:

Ceejay – Good you got out and took care of the flower beds and other yard work, and got some great exercise to boot! :encore: I still have to cut back the rest of the peony and phlox foliage, and dismantle the veggie patch – pull out the tomato and basil plants, take down the fencing, and remove the newspaper. Laying down the paper actually did a good job keeping the weeds at bay, even though I didn't do that until there were already weeds! It eventually smothered them. Unfortunately, it's really wet now after a couple days of rain, so I could probably get the patch dismantled, but tilling some leaves into the soil is out of the question for now. What a bummer about your "barometer" headaches – hope you feel better soon! Hope you're feeling up to your visit with the uncles.

It seems a lot of people drink almond milk now. I'm curious how it tastes. I might have to pick some up – I bet Trader Joe's would have it. We've been keeping our toilet lid down when we flush for years. It's the inability at work to do that which concerns me. Maybe I need to start using the handicap stall – more room to stand clear of it.

Happy – How was the sample Toastmasters session? I've always heard that was a very good thing to get involved in. Your lucky dh – getting a fancy massage w/ rocks. I've always wanted to get a hot stone massage. Aaah. :cloud9: Sounds like a good reuse of the electric fry pan! The crock pot thing someone mentioned reminds me of my nail salon – they heat the damp washcloths in a crockpot. The cold stones, well, that doesn't sound like they would do anything to relax the muscles. At home, I always have a sponge by the sinks for wiping up splashes, but at work – can't believe how many slobs are out there! Too funny about the t-shirt you want from Shad! :lol:Thanks for the hand up on the wagon – much needed!

Annie – I love that red color the burning bushes get in fall. Ours finally changed and looks great. The colors really changed this week and even the rain & gloom we had the past couple days couldn't keep the trees from looking glorious in their fall color. I've never been much of a pumpkin pie fan, but some of my childhood dislikes just sort of carried over into adulthood. And you know this sounds flakey, but at this point, I hesitate to start eating something I used to not eat because I figure I don't need another food to test my willpower! That said – pumpkin pies are one of the healthier pies to eat. I've even heard that you can just make the filling alone and it would actually be quite healthy. Sorry that crown is giving you such problems. Keep up with the hand sanitizing – you definitely get exposed to a lot of germs in your job at CVS. Continuing my prayers for your mother.

Michelle – Nice that you live in an area without much light pollution. I think stargazing is such a pleasure – wish I could just step outside my door and do that. I agree that the flu shot doesn't make you sick – been getting it through work for many years. I have to say that I'm pretty healthy and wouldn't bother with it if work didn't offer it- but as Annie wrote---famous last words, lol. Glad you finally got your shot – important, given the asthma. LOL you made it into the news photo!!

That Shoo the flu video sounds entertaining! Our office now has hand sanitizer and wipes in reception, conference rooms, etc. I have a little spray tube in my purse, but I'm not in the habit of using it regularly yet. I do, however, keep a pack of baby wipes in the car and use one every time I get back in there after coming from pretty much anywhere but our own house. I don't even know if they're antibacterial, I just want to clean off the germs! Sorry your weigh-in didn't go as hoped. Unless you're in a really regular routine, there's always something that can jolt me out of a groove – traveling, conference, social events, etc. I have to learn to get back on track immediately or any damage will just grow.

Shad – Yet another big project. Nice you're sharing the fence cost with a neighbor. We were able to do that on one side of our property several years ago. Last year we had our other side done, but paid it ourselves because we knew those neighbors would never want to contribute (well, the husband wouldn't), let alone afford it. Didn’t do either project ourselves though! Bravo to you and hope you get BOTH DS's help with it! Congrats on your good weigh-in!! I agree with good old hand washing when it's possible. Scary to think of the germs becoming more resistant to all the antibacterial products out there these days.

Well, it might have stopped raining by now. I think I'll get dressed and do something. Plenty to do around the house and plenty of errands as well. Where to begin?? ?:?:

Morning all,
Not feeling too crash hot this morning. Had lamb chops and a new dish called Mediterranean vegetables for dinner last night. It was nice but something along the line upset the stomach. I have made at least three trips to the loo this morning and have the feeling there are more on the way. time will tell. DS2 tells me it is my own fault for eating so healthy.

Anyway, I am about to attempt some toast and vegemite. The ultimate comfort food. And I will return when I feel better. Meantime my time in the loo can be put to good use - I can grout while I am there.

Back later.

So forgive me the lack of personals. I'll catch up.

Hope your tummy settles down Shad - maybe too MUCH fiber?

Sorry about the lips Mel - you would think... I guess organic can have irrirtants too.

Off to make a grocery list... see yah later.

I've had a good week end just wish there was less driving to do.

Something tore up the mail boxes at my uncles yesterday. I'm thinking that it was a piece of farm equipment. They called the police but no report was filed.

Stopped by Walgreen's on the way home to pick up a few things and check out the puzzle section. Finally there was one of my neice's husband's puzzle's. I bought it. Now I have two.

I'm really sleepy. I missed my nap this afternoon.

Good morning ladies,

Busy weekend rolling right into a busy week. You always pay for a few days of R&R on vacation. I'm hoping the weather holds up - the colors are peaking right on time but there is some big rain moving through and nothing wrecks the trees more than rain and wind.

Hope you all had a nice weekend yourselves. Sorry for lack of personals, just alot going on this morning.

Annie - hope your Mom is doing better today

Catch you later ladies...

THUD!!! bump...bump...bump...

That was me falling off the wagon. I had a sore throat and was tired most of the weekend...and since DH was fighting a bad cold, I didn't want to overdo it and risk getting really sick too. So I haven't been to the gym in days.

And then my eating fell off the wagon. Kraft Mac & Cheese along with not much in the way of veggies. Now my tummy is telling me it needs fiber.

Can someone please give me a hand up on the wagon? I'm going to get my eating back on track, and although I can't get to the gym tonight because of a meeting with a client, I WILL get there tomorrow...no matter what.

Ceejay - Glad you enjoyed yoru time at the uncles. Sorry to hear about the mailboxes. How cool that your niece's husband does the artwork for puzzles. I checked them out after googling his name...gorgeous artwork!!

Happy - When are you headed back to the yurts? I sure hope there will still be some lovely autumn colors by the time you get there.

Mel - Sorry to hear about the lip balm reaction. I hope things run smoothly between now and the election. Don't overdo it, okay?

Shad - I hope you're feeling better by now. Good on ya' for all you've accomplished with the fence!

Laura - Thanks for the words of wisdom. I have definitely been jolted off track...but I'm not nearly as derailed as I have been in the past. I can see the track and have some of the wheels still on. Just need to give myself a little :kickbutt: As for burning bushes...we have ugly junipers in front of the house, but come spring, we plan to rip those out and replace them with burning bushes! They should be just lovely come next autumn!

Annie - I hope you and mom are doing well! Lots of love, hugs and prayers to you. :grouphug:

I've got to sign off for now.

Love and hugs,

Michelle- reaching out on tippy toes and extended fingers - come back on the wagon here.

It must have been National Ditch Your Veggies In Favor of Kraft Mac and Cheese week. I sinned too :o But darn it was good :D Also feeling the effects of less than healthy eating.

Ok it's done with. Let's start the new week off back on game again, 'k?

Thanks, Happy, for the boost up! I'm happy to know that I wasn't the only "sinner". I've had a healthy day so far, and my meeting this evening got rescheduled until tomorrow...so it's cardio and weights for me at the gym tonight. :woohoo:

MICHELLE I WOULD LOVE TO HELP YOU BACK ON THE WAGON BUT I'D HAVE TO FIND THE FOOKING WAGON FIRST

FOR THE NEXT WEEK OR SO I WON'T DO PERSONALS IF THAT'S OK WITH YOU GUYS. THIS WEEK IS TURNING OUT TO BE A NIGHTMARE AND I HAVE TIME TO READ BUT NOT GIVE ADVICE....NOT THAT ANYONE EVER ASKED FOR IT :lol3: BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
FEELING A BIT DRAINED TODAY EMOTIONALLY BUT I HAVE A BETTER PLAN FOR THE NEXT 8 DAYS. I PLANNED IT OUT TO WORK SMALL BITS ON THE WEEKDAYS, WITH BREAKS, AND TAKE OFF FROM FRI AFTERNOON TILL MONDAY MORNING. THEN WIND IT UP ON MONDAY WITH THE ELECTION FOLLOWING ON TUES. THEY ARE ALREADY TRYING TO FILL THE GAP I WILL LEAVE ON TUESDAY....I AM NOT STAYING IN AN OVER CROWDED ROOM AND SHAKING 300 - 500 HANDS ETC. SO THAT'S THEIR PROBLEM NOW. BESIDES...ALL THE WORK WILL HAVE BEEN DONE ALREADY. GOING TO POINT THAT OUT TO THEM IN THE MORNING. THERE'S A SHORT MEETING.
SPENT TIME WITH JEN. WE CLEANED THE OLD CHAIR. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT...AN OLD "FRIEND" IS GOING NTO HAVE THE CHAIR PICKED UP SO CARLOS CAN ACCESS IT'S NEEDS AND THEN BRING IT BACK HOME TO ME....ALL IN ONE DAY SO I CAN USE IT AT NIGHT LIKE I NEED TO. THEN THEY WILL DECIDE IF THE CHAIR CAN INDEED BE FIXED ONE LAST TIME. THEN THEY WILL DECIDE IF THEY CAN MAKE A PATIENT PAYMENT PLAN FOR ME. THEN I HAVE TO DECIDE IF IT'S ALL WORTH IT. GENE IS THE MAN THAT ORIGINALLY SOLD ME THIS CHAIR AND NOW WORKS FOR CARLOS. BOTH ARE SYMPATHETIC BUT BOTH HAVE FAMILIES TO RAISE, EMPLOYEES TO PAY ETC AND LET'S FACE IT....TIMES ARE TOUGH FOR EVERYONE. I'M NOT EXPECTING A MIRACLE BUT JUST A FAIR SHAKE. THE CHAIR IS REAdy for when the assessment day comes....they cannot give me any notice other than to say they are on their way. OPPS...LOST MY CAPS.
SORRY THIS IS SO LONG BUT I COULDN'T WAIT TO GET HOME AND TELL YOU GUYS. TIRED OF CRYING BY MYSELF TODAY  AFTER YOU PRAY FOR ANNIE AND HER MOM...SAY A LITTLE SHORT ONE FOR THE OLD BLUE CHAIR!!
LOVE YOU ALL, MEL.

Shad

Winging good thoughts for chairs and Mums and vacation weather and weigh ins and gyms and coughs and etc.etc.etc.

I'm back in the land of the living and very nice it is too. I'm approx. 1 kg lighter than I was, but that isn't a problem. Doc said it might have been a 24 hour bug, but whatever he gave me didn't work and I was going at both ends (sorry TMI) constantly. So I took some of my Jakarta bung it up pills and haven't been since. I think that the indigestion pain might have been marginally worse than the other pain I was in. Forget the Doc - take Jakarta bung it up pills. Works every time.

Mel - you just do what you have to do. If we need advice, I'm sure someone else is capable of telling us to pull finger and give thumb a chance. That's my advice anyway. You will need some time off after this. Shaking hands with the bright and shiny (sometimes substitute slippery) can be very wearing. Unless of course Barack appears, then you need to corral the man and tell him that you and I have the answer to almost every question ever asked and all we need is a place to put ourselves while we single handedly rescue the world.

Happy - happy vacationing. Take lots of very nice fall photos. I need something to brighten up the spare bedroom. I'm about to archive all my photos to an external hard drive so I can get rid of some of the old computers and back up all that I still need - like tax evas......whoops tax papers etc. It will ensure that all my stuff is at last in one place. Hallelujah.

Annie - if you are reading here, hope all is okay with you. Thoughts are with you and Mum.

Michelle - back to the gym, back to the wagon. Here's a push for you :kickbutt: to get you back on the wagon. It's hard. It is never easy and those that say it is, have never had to fight for every pound and every inch.

Ceejay - Have fun with your puzzle. I've not heard of them. I'd better google them I guess.

Laura and Patty

Better go finish off this bedroom for the kids arriving tomorrow night. I'd like not to have to rush down to the wire this time. The fence will now not arrive until Thursday. Hope there is no further delays but I shouldn't be surprised. Big companies just don't seem to care about the little people. I'm told there are shortages!! :tantrum:

Tuesday....

Mom is still not stable. She had a mild heart attack, however not to damaging. Once they get her stable she will then go to rehabilation for a while to live. We watched a video on dialysis and choices. She really only has one....at the center type, instead of at home and definitely not a candidate for a transplant. Which is ok considering her age and other issues. I don't think she could stand the surgery. As she had a mastecomy about 15 years ago, cancer patients are not considered for kidney transplants. Also, 3 of her 4 kids have had kidney stones which makes us not eligible to donate. I didn't know that till I watched the video. Docs took her off her gout medicine which caused her severe agony in her legs, so bad that they did x-rays to make sure she did not have clots. I then went to the nurses station and raised H*LL and said if they were not going to give her gout meds, then give her pain meds....which they finally did. I hate it you have to do other people's jobs. Sorry for all the doom and gloom and thanks for listening.

Stay OP and get your exercise, feel better everyone if you need it. Don't work too hard and be safe.

Love yas.

Hello my friends,

I'm a little sore, but generally doing better than I was when I left work yesterday. Thank goodness for the gym (and Aleve)! I did a Zumba class followed by strength training...where we focused on upper back...which is where I'm especially stiff now. I just love going to the gym and getting a great workout. I wish I could bring myself to get in a routine at home...especially since the cold/snowy weather is on it's way. Maybe as it gets closer to Thanksgiving, I'll transform the family room into an area more conducive for exercise videos. BTW, my eating is back on track as well! Yay! I don't have high hopes for Thursday's weigh in thanks to my "lost" weekend. But I'm being the best I can be now.

Today is going to be busy at work, and after work, I have a meeting. DH gets home from Missouri tonight. Can't remember if I mentioned that or not. He left yesterday morning to go to some of his company sites about 1/2 hour from Springfield.

Annie - My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom. :goodvibes:

Mel - No worries about losing the wagon. We'll find you after your nightmare week is over. Sounds like you have a wonderful plan to use exercise (and relaxation) to relieve stress! Good for you!!! Make sure you get lots of rest and don't overdo, no matter how much they beg. And don't shake hands with anyone unless you have plenty of hand sanitizer handy...you don't know where they've been!! :yikes: I hope your chair doesn't need too many repairs. I'm keeping you and your chair situation in my prayers, my sister.

Shad - Glad to hear you're feeling much better and that the Jakarta pills helped when the doc couldn't. Since the fence isn't arriving until Thursday, DS1 will be able to help out a lot, right?

Happy - I hope you have a lovely vacation with gorgeous fall colors. We are well past peak here and many of the leaves have already dropped.

Laura - I hope your week is going well!

A big  to all!

Much Love and Many Hugs,

Shad – Glad you're feeling better, no thanks to the doctor! Bf and I were just talking about getting our photos off the computer and onto CDs "or something". Hope your fencing arrives on time.

Mel – It's been raining a lot this week. I'm walking to and from home/train station and sort of worried about slipping on the wet leaves plastering the sidewalks! Sorry the lip balm caused you irritation. Just like not all healthy foods are low in fat or calories, I guess not all organic products are guaranteed gentle.

Sorry your week has not started off well, but I'm very glad you have a plan for the rest of this election push so that you don't end up overworked, overtired, and SICK! Definitely be OP w/ that P!! Saying prayers that your chair can be affordably resurrected.

Happy – Are you ready for vacation yet? I hope the color holds up for you! Our neighbor asked me to tell our trees to drop their leaves, LOL. Our two large trees in our backyard are still green and are notoriously late at dropping their leaves.

Michelle – Hope you're securely back on the wagon with your hand up from Happy. I had an extended period running behind the wagon – after a week and a half of vacation and conference, I wasn't OP over the weekend either! Started off Monday poorly by forgetting my lunch and snacks at home, but I managed to stay generally okay in calories, if not with the healthiest foods. Today's been better. I won't be achieving my goal of 180 by Thursday, but I will be down by something, and that's better than nothing at all. I look forward to the next challenge because this has been good for me psychologically. Good job on the exercise!

Annie – My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom. I hope she is stabilized soon. So sad when so many things start failing, and then it's a huge challenge to try and treat the most critical issues and not make others worse, or cause new ones.

Ceejay – Cool to have a published relative, and such a talented artistic one! Hope you got back into the groove today at work. I never feel like I'm caught up.

Not much to report. Last night was my gyne appointment (annual) and tonight is the movie "The Stepfather". Today was better than yesterday with food – so far. Okay, better get this posted, shut down, and catch my train.

Hi ladies,

Once again despite careful planning I am WAY behind in things. We are planning on leaving around 8am. I probably won't get any sleep tonight or maybe a short nap. This happens all the time.

So pardon my quick exit.

Annie - hoping your Mom pulls through ok

Mel - hoping your chair can get fixed

Shad - enjoy mango season :hungry: :T

Laura - I'm handing over the reins of the wagon to you - do well with them sister :D

Ceejay - I think we're in for a bout of nice weather - enjoy it!

Michelle - you get to poke anyone who falls off the wagon :s:

Wish I could say more but I have to run. Talk to you next week.

Hey ladies -

Nice day here today...supposed to be sunny and upper 50s. Tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer. Tonight after work, I'm either going fishing with DH or going to the gym. in a way, I'd rather go to the gym...but we're running out of nice weather days...so if he wants to go fishing, I'll go with him. Tomorrow, it's the gym for sure as I have a strength training class, a Zumba class and then an appt with my trainer/coach. I didn't get to the gym yesterday, as I had a meeting with a website client that went until nearly 8 pm.

Happy - You're probably already on the road...so enjoy safe travels and a Great Vacation!

Ceejay - It's difficult to get back in the work groove...but I hope things are going well.

Mel - Good idea to spend your rainy day resting and relaxing...you've got a busy week ahead. It annoys me when people (men and women) use too much cologne! Ugh! There's not much that triggers my asthma faster (well, maybe ciggie smoke).

Laura - Our big tree in the front yard is like your two in the backyard...still green and always the last in the neighborhood to drop leaves. So since we don't have gutter covers, we can either wait until mid-November to clean the gutters (when it's cold, wet and even icy), or do a half-arsed job of cleaning the gutters now knowing that more leaves will be falling. Sigh. Hopefully you enjoyed the movie more than your gyne appt. :lol3:

Shad - I hope DS1's visit goes well and the fence gets installed without any problems.

Lots of love and hugs to all,

Wednesday, hmmmmmm,

Stopped by the hospital this morning on way to work so momma wouldn't have to eat her breakie by herself. Today she ate 1/2 of a small cinnamon/raisen bagel and half a cheese omelet, cup of coffee. At least she is eating. Her BP and sugars seem to be in the normal range the last couple of days. Keep your fingers crossed.

MEL...that perfume they wear we call OLD PEOPLE PERFUME and the make-up also...OLD PEOPLE MAKE-UP....tends to smell strange and is ever strong.

Laura....good for you for getting your eating back on track....one day at a time.

Happy...be careful on your journey and have loads of fun, some for me too!

Chelle....the sun is supposed to come out later today and be around 66. Sunny and 66 tomorrow also, then rain comes in for Friday. It is just way to wet out there. Hella Bella hates getting her feet wiped off each time she comes in.

Ceejay...have a great day at work.

Not really much going on in my world, just tending to mom. Dad has started riding his bike at home. I think all this mom stuff has him thinking.

Got homemade split pea and ham in the crockpot today. T is coming over for a short visit before he goes to work. I think that is the only "normal" thing going on in my life right now.

Everyone have a great OP - fun lovin' day.

Annie - Glad to hear your mom is eating and that her BP and sugars have been doing good. Keeping my fingers :crossed: for her. The weatherman lied about today's forecast. I haven't seen the sun yet. My dogs rush past me too fast to get their feet wiped. It's hard to stop 3 at once. So I'm always mopping up their little muddy footprints. Split pea soup sounds sooo good.

As for where we go next month.... How about....

"In November the Worldlies went to Nantucket..." (bad limerick to follow) :lol3:

or...

"Worldlies Navigating Nutrition in November without going Nutty"
"Worldlies Eating Nutritiously in November"

Oh how could I forget about Neverland and Michael Jackson, I too, am SICK of hearing about all that. Yikes.

Annie - Fingers crossed for your mother! Enjoy some normal time w/ T tonight.

Michelle - We have a 3 season room that we go through to get from the kitchen to the backyard, so when doggy comes back in, he's in there with the door closed so I can wipe his paws. However...there's still a trail of muddy pawprints across the 3 season room floor between the patio door and the kitchen door. We just had gutter covers installed summer before last -good for the leaves, but the helicopter thingies from our maple tree seem to accumulate on top of the covers.

Mel - Hope you're enjoying a quiet rainy day today with no interruptions.

Had to cut my post short - there were fundraising festivities going on today. Just had some snacks and a beer, so I better try and log that into The Daily Plate: Grilled veggies, one grilled shrimp, one crab (seafood?) cake w/ sauce, one chicken finger w/ bbq sauce, one small wedge of quesadilla. And an Amstel Light. And I'm still hungry, and I still want that fun size Butterfinger bar I picked up during an earlier fundraiser activity. I will log everything and see how much I can cut back this evening. We'll see how the weigh in goes tomorrow.

Last night's movie was just okay. It was supposed to be sort of a thriller, but it was more geared towards the teens I think, and could have been better. Mel, I agree that the one w/ Sandra Bullock where she takes in the big kid looks good.

Hellos to Shad, Ceejay, Patty, Rose, and Happy (in her yurt)!

Hi y'all

Short post since I am running out of day, and I really don't know what I have done with it. Oh yes I do. I cleaned a few windows. Now I can see what the weather is doing.

DS1 has been digging holes and getting blisters. Partner has been studying. MacroEconomics - yeah exactly. DS2 came home and a discussion about dynamite and jackhammers ensued.

And that is about it. I'll be back early tomorrow with personals and stuff.

annie175

Hidee Ho Neighbors........

Laura....be careful with that Butterfinger bar, it might start a wagon bump.

Shad...jackhammers and dynamite, OMG, my son would get along well with your DS. He loves to blow things up.

Ceejay...new shoes for an all day adventure at work, not a good idea. I think we should be able to wear houseslippers. I mean why not, who the H*LL sees our feet under our desks anyway?

Today is sunny and 70, thought about calling off for today, but don't know what the future holds for me and if I will need the days for later. Maybe just go outside at lunch for a spell, a little walking maybe. Clear the head.

The split pea soup was fabulous last night, brought some more for lunch today, even enough to share with the other girls. T like it too.

Not much else going on. Have a terrific day all.

Love and Hugs,

Was so tired last night that I slept on the couch. I'm thinking about going back to bed even though I'm not sleepy. A sore throat was starting yesterday and worse this morning. Will be going to the doctor later this morning.

Weight this morning was 195.4 which is not bad considering I ate after 7.30 p.m.

Annie
Hang in there. Are you still working at CVS while your mom is in the hospital? Good vibes are being sent your way for you and your mom.

Laura
Yum, What was the fnd raiser for?

Shad
At least the son is will to do part of the job for you. Good visits always passes the time of day.

I'm not sure how much work I'll get done today, but I still need to clean the bed rooms and do laundry. Think I'll eat breakfast and go back to bed.

We are supposed to get 3 to 6 inches of rain this week end so I'm not going to go to my uncles. We're already under a flash flood watch.

Happy Thursday ladies -

I went to the gym last night and did only about 1/2 hour of cardio. I tried to go longer, but had some ankle pain...and since I've got two classes and a meeting with the trainer tonight, I didn't want to push through the pain. So I went home and iced the ankle. I'm really tired today.

Lots to do, both at work and even more at home. I'm looking at a very busy weekend. I've got to do a thorough cleaning of our bedroom, as we have rather large dust bunnies that are affecting DH's allergies. Plus, DH and I want to go fishing at least once before we store the boat for winter. I've got some website work to do, and some yard work to do. I think I'm going to need about 30 hours in the day for the next week or so to get caught up!

DH is also battling a staph infection in a cut on his finger that has caused his whole hand to swell up. He saw the doc yesterday, who lanced and drained the infected finger, and prescribed some really strong antibiotics.

I'm determined to get back and keep my upbeat positive attitude. Gonna work on that today.

Laura - I would love to have a 3 season room where our patio is, and then extend our patio out from it. Thanks for letting me know that gutter covers don't handle helicopters very well. We've got at least 1/2 dozen maple trees in our yard. Your fundraising festivities sound really fun and yummy! And at least the Butterfinger bar is fun sized...not jumbo sized. Thanks for the movie review. :)

Ceejay - Sore feet and a sore throat? I sure hope you feel better very soon. You're getting more rain? Maybe you should think about building an ark! Stay warm and dry my friend. :umbrella:

Happy - I hope you're not getting rained on during your vacation! That would really be awful.

Shad - Dynamite and jackhammers? My DH would've really enjoyed being in on that discussion! Glad to hear DS1 is helping with the work!

Annie - I'm with you...slippers to work. Better yet, slippers and sweatpants! Sunny and 70? How lovely! Today, we're going to have sunny and mid 60s. Why can't we have this weather on a weekend?! I will definitely get out for a walk today. Glad you and T had a nice dinner. I hope you get a little time to relax this coming weekend.

Mel - Meeting my clients at the gym? That's a BRILLIANT idea! Zumba was fun the other night...and I've got another Zumba class tonight. As for the magnifier stuck to your cursor...the first thing you can try is to hit the escape key (Esc). That might get rid of it.

Well, my pile of work won't get any smaller unless I say ciao for now!

Love and hugs,

annie175

Chelle, just remember no matter what happens, the cleaning and yardwork will always be there. GO FISHING!! Once it snows, who cares what the yard looks like. I always pray for a drought so that I don't have to cut the grass in the summer. I really don't care if the grass is brown. LOL Yikes on the staph infection in DHs finger. That is dangerous and am glad he got it taken care of, poor baby, he has had a hard way to go of late.

diyana
10-29-2009, 11:30 AM
Thanks for the perspective, Annie. Love ya', my sister friend. Normally, I wouldn't care about the cleaning...but with DH's allergies being so bad, I really should battle the dust bunnies.

As for the yardwork, the lawns are covered with leaves...which I really should mow/mulch up. But since the trees still have plenty more leaves on them...I'll hold off on gutter cleaning until next week.

I received this recipe in an email today, and immediately thought of Shad and the other Worldlies who love mangoes!

Strawberry, Mango and Spinach Salad

1 pint strawberries
2 mangos
6 cups baby spinach
1/4 cup macadamia nuts, coarsely chopped

Vinaigrette:
2 tablespoons white balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon shallot, finely chopped
1 tablespoon Italian parsley, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Preparation:

Trim the strawberries to remove the stem end and slice. Put in a medium sized bowl. Using a sharp knife, remove the skin of the mango. Cut the flesh away from the pit, and cut into bite-sized pieces. Add to bowl. Add the spinach and macadamia nuts.

In a separate bowl, add the vinegar, lime juice, shallot, parsley, salt and pepper. While whisking, drizzle in the olive oil. To serve, pour the vinaigrette over the salad, toss gently, and serve immediately.

Ceejay – Sorry the shoes were not kind to your feet yesterday. I fell asleep watching tv on the sofa last night and finally dragged myself to bed without my usual few pages of reading. I was pretty tired. I hope the sore throat doesn't mean you're coming down w/ something. Make sure you get enough rest!

You asked about the fundraising activities. It's our company's annual few weeks of fun activities for the charity we choose. For the past several years, this has been almost solely the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Yesterday was a mini-golf tournament consisting of 9 holes designed and built by various teams, located throughout the 4 floors of our office space. I'm no golfer and did quite poorly, even w/ a hole in one on one of the holes. But the holes were very creative, and it was a lot of fun. The food and drinks were part of the "19th hole", just like on a real golf course. All the activities are, of coursed designed to raise money for the charity (auctions, raffles, tournaments), but it's also fun to interact with people you don't normally see during your daily work activities. Our new employee really enjoyed it.

Shad – With all that talk of jackhammers, dynamite (and macroeconomics), you should take cover with earplugs until all that talk stops.

Annie – Yeh, thinking about the foods I've left behind since starting this challenge, I do miss them. I'm just trying to bargain with myself that I can have a little bit every once in a while - but not today. You've got sun??? Definitely get out at lunchtime and enjoy it!!! We're going to start molding in my rainy, dreary neck of the woods. The split pea soup sounds tasty. There's a restaurant near me whose claim to fame is their slabs of ham at breakfast, and they sell meaty ham bones. Might get over there this weekend for one so I can make some pea soup. Catch up on your sleep and stay well, okay?

Mel – So you have mal de Microsoft? Sorry, don't know what the magnifying glass means in that instant. So frustrating when you somehow make a keystroke combination that sets some unwanted software feature in motion and you can't figure out how to get rid of it/turn it off.

Michelle – Hope your ankle is feeling better today and the antibiotics take care of DH's infection. It would be nice if you and DH get some fishing in before the weather totally turns. I would generally agree with the thought that the housework can always wait, but if it helps with the allergy situation, it's probably worth the time and effort. You might have to repeat that back to me someday when I'm complaining about dog hair and dust bunnies, LOL.

Okay, my weigh in for this morning showed 185. So I've lost 3 pounds during this challenge. Not a whole lot, but better than nothing and mucho better than a gain. What I've really gotten out of this is getting back to thinking about what I'm eating and exercising some control – something I'd been avoiding for quite a while. I haven't gotten back to physical exercise (the formal kind), and so that'll still be a goal with the next challenge, which I'm totally in favor of and ready to start.

Okay, I've rambled long enough. Have a great day everyone!

annie175

Mel - hop in to Control Panel and change the mouse setting. It's probably a keyboard combo of CTRL and something or the windows button and something but I can't remember what. Anyway, Control Panel > Mouse folder and try clicking on pointer options. Choose whatever you want it to be. Or change the pointer style. Mine says 'Normal Selection' but I am using Vista which has changed some of the words around. If that doesn't work, give me a ring. I'll be home all day. The kids are going to Dreamworld with friends but I'll be here.

Annie - For the next wee while, you are just going to take life as it comes. Get rest when you can, laugh and love with Mum when you can and try to take it easy when you can. Easy words to say, but hard to put into action. Mum can't be too comfortable either about things either. My thoughts are with you

Ceejay - hope the sore throat is much better. You don't want your long weekend to be spent in bed.

Laura - That fundraiser sounds like fun. My mini golf skills are pretty awful. It once took me 72 strokes to get to the first hole. Well done for participating in a really good cause.

Happy is leafing peeping I guess - or is she yurting?

Well the dynamite talk was just that. Not allowed dynamite in this type of urban area (although it might be fun). But the Jackhammer will be a reality this afternoon - DS2 has a whole lot of old concrete fence posts to remove from his new house.

And with that, I'm off to walk my 3kg a day. I'll come back to the weight thing later since today is the end of Annies Challenge.

Happy Friday ladies -

It's a rainy morning here. Hopefully, the rain will let up so I can walk at lunchtime. Had a great evening last night at the gym...a strength training class that kicked my butt, followed by a Zumba class that wore me out, and then a "baseline" measurements taking and goal setting meeting with my trainer. He helped me set up realistic goals to get me through the holidays. I did eat a fairly late dinner last night as I didn't get home from the gym until after 8 pm. Tonight, I'm going to go to the gym and afterward, get some website work done.

Laura - I do miss some foods...but then again, there are some that I know I can't just eat reasonable portions of...like pizza and brownies. We're getting lots of rain here too. It's supposed to be windy today and this weekend. Hopefully it will be windy enough to get the leaves off the trees, but not too windy to get out in the boat one last time before we put it away. My ankle is doing fine. It did okay during weight training and Zumba (which surprised me). Congrats on the 3 lbs lost during the challenge! :woohoo:

Annie - Congrats on the weight loss during the challenge! YGG! I don't have the guts to check my starting weight for this challenge...but I think I probably gained...or at best...stayed the same. I hope your mom's surgery went well. Heed Shad's advice...that's the best advice ever. Be good to yourself. Rest and eat healthy. And enjoy every minute with your Mom. Sending her lots of  and :goodvibes: for the dialysis!

Ceejay - I hope you're feeling better.

Shad - I hope the kids enjoyed Dreamworld. I'll have to Google that to see what it is. Did DS2 get his fill of jackhammering? Walking 3kg a day? Do you mean "km"? Or do you walk until you lose 3 kilos each day? Congrats on the very successful weigh in! :bravo: I would LOVE to have a challenge that finishes in December 17!!! :woohoo:

Mel - I LOVE the penguin clock graphic!! So adorable!!! My DH and I collect penguins, and the one in the graphic is sure a cutie! Really brightened my morning!! I also like your idea of a challenge that lasts until New Years Eve! I discussed the holidays with my trainer last night and said that it's not realistic to assume that I'll eat within my daily points on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day...so I'm allowing myself to go "slightly" off plan on those days. But as for parties or other gatherings...I will manage my calories/points so that I can enjoy those events and still stay within my points. I'm so relieved you decided to skip the election. With all the H1N1 cases...you don't need to be around so many potentially sick people. We've had several people die in Wisconsin from H1N1. I hope more vaccine becomes available soon! Enjoy your restful, relaxing, rainy day with Jen!

I've got lots to get done, so I'd better get to it.

Love and hugs,

TGIF....I think....

Mom' surgery for her port went well yesterday. Supposed to start dialysis today, however that has not been confirmed.

Not much going on here.

Chelle....I AM POSITIVE you WILL do better with the eating and exercising. Just a few speed bumps in the road. Now git er done!!

Shad...thanks for the advice on momma. You know I am spending quality time with her. She was griping about the TV channels the other day and then said just turn the FOOKING think off. Only not in such pretty words. lol Dynamite would have been more fun, but jackhammering can be fun too if you don't jiggle yourself too much.

MEL...I agree with you about not getting around crowds, this flu thing is not so pretty. Most all those that have died here in Indiana have had other complications to begin with. The little girl that was here for the FFA convention had a prior heart problem. They say if you are healthy when you get it you have a better chance of fighting it, WELL DUH, isn't that true with anything. I swear the govt think we are ignorant BLONDES...

OK, challenge to the end of the year.....do what is healthy and best for your body (exercising, eating healthy or hey both of those, what a concept) We will call it the NEW YEAR challenge...how original is that one? lol

Everyone have a wonderful weekend, stay OP, and think good thoughts, don't have to be clean thoughts (MEL) just good ones!!

Love and hugs.

I'm trying some html to see if I can get the text size larger. It may be my screen only.

Shad
I'm all for a challenge to the end of the year. Mine is for a healthy life style, healthy food, exercise and more water intake.

Mel
Good for you in staying away from the elections. This flu bug is a little frightening even to me. I'm trying to stay well in order to take the flu shot next week. My sister didn't advise the h1n1 flu shot. She's the one going to school to make a nurse practioner.

Annie
Your mom is stronger than what you realize. Continuing to send her good vibes and keeping her in my prayers.

Michelle
I went to the gym yesterday for the first time in a couple of weeks. I told myself I'm not over doing it. I did cardio for 20 minutes and some machines for 15 minutes. I'm planning on going back today if the rain hasn't made things to where it's impassable.

Laura
I agree that walking is the best cardio for me.

My aunt called this afternoon stating that another aunt went to the hospital last night around 2 a.m. She's been having congestive heart failure. She's been pulling through.

I'm dreading tomorrow night-Holloween. I don't like particpating in that event.

I'm hoping that Happy is enjoying her vacation in the rain. It's suppose to be nice tomorrow.

I took some med's last night that the doctor gave me in January for this same thing. It's all allergy related. The drainage in my throat is not there now.

Annie – Glad your mom's surgery went well, and prayers that the dialysis will go smoothly. With all the other challenges in your life right now, it's great you had a loss. I think I might have let all those things drive me totally off course in the food department.

Shad – Good result on the challenge! :cheer3:

Mel – Nice to take a Friday off. I have still have 9 vacation days left to take, so I'll probably be taking some Fridays and Mondays off in the coming weeks. Good for you for staying home on election day – avoid the masses and stay healthy!! Glad you got rid of the magnifier – no more nausea! You post the cutest graphics! They always make me smile. :) Thank you.

Michelle – Glad you're ankle's feeling better. Sorry the scale didn't reflect your efforts. Do you attend "live" WW meetings? One thing I didn't like when I did WW was attending evening meetings because it seemed like there would be more weight fluctuations at weigh-in based on what I ate and drank all day. I prefer my private morning weigh-ins!

You're really doing a great job on the exercise! Keep it up! :cheer2: I failed miserably on that during the challenge and it's something I need to work on during the next challenge. Especially since the holiday (aka, eating) season is soon upon us!

Ceejay – Hope you get back to the gym today. :exercise: You're right to set your own pace - overdoing it only makes you too sore to want to go back! Maybe for Halloween you can make it look like you're not home! I'm hoping the weather will be nice enough to be outdoors to greet trick-or-treaters (and do some leaf-raking in the meantime), otherwise the dog goes crazy with all the doorbell ringing. Maybe we'll hole up in the basement…

Okay, a New Year's Challenge!! I guess since the last challenge ended yesterday, the new one starts TODAY! (Best not to let myself off the hook over the Halloween weekend!)

Have a great weekend everyone. My only firm plans are a blood donation on Sunday. :dracula: Oh, and setting the clocks back. An extra hour of sleep  or something! :carrot:

Never ending November story - well there is a novelty!

Can't stop today as the fence is going in as we speak and you all know that the project must be micromanaged by Shad, else they would probably stand around all day and gossip! We went down to the dump at 6.00 this morning thinking it would be open but they have changed the hours for domestic waste to 7.00am. Commercial only before that time. Bah humbug, so we came home and I cooked DS2 some Eggs Benedict for breakfast. They smelt so good, I had some too. Not good for the waistline, or the cholesterol but hey - they were good!

So I'll be back with an update later in my day and personals. It's Friday for you good folks - enjoy the wind down to the weekend.

AS FOR MY ANSWER TO SHAD ABOUT CONTINUING THE CHALLENGE THRU NEW YEARS...I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO KEEP IN MIND SOME KIND OF CONTROL KNOWING ALL THE HOLIDAY FOODS WILL BE BOMBARDING US IN ALL THE STORES AND ON TV. HAPPY SATURDAY/SUNDAY :moped:

Shad - Hope the fencing went in and wasn't hindered too much by gossip. :gossip:

Mel - Enjoy your trick or treating! We bought some candy last night, and I'm glad we didn't buy it any earlier. It's calling my name!

Thanks for posting all the graphics. Love 'em! I had to try to attach one, but totally clueless. Managed to get it in as a thumbnail.

Ceejay - Your 2nd to last post had small print yesterday, and now it's regular. Your last post has small print. Best wishes to your aunt for a speedy recovery.

Windy and brisk out today. The veg garden and flower beds need cleanup but I'll take a pass today on that. Laundry and vacuuming need to be done. And that paper pile. Ugh.

Happy Halloween everyone! :haphal:

I thought that the print was in my computer. Then changed the zoom size. It's holding on my end.

Holloween is not my favorite time. I enjoyed it when I was younger. They start here before it gets dark which irritates me. I'm either going to be gone or sit in the spare room or the computer.

I've not done much in the way of house cleaning this week end because of the rain but today it's nice outside and am not in the mood.

Hope every one has a good week end.
