Good morning, everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! I am still on my quest to loose the last couple of pounds before vacation in two weeks. I had a great weekend--lots of physical activity! Have I told you guys that I love roller blading?? Yesterday I did 13 miles. Does anyone know how it compares with walking? I know walking about 30 minutes uses up about 150 calories, but I have no idea about roller blading!
Well, I hope you all have a great day! DOn't forget to tell yourself you're doing a great job--don't wait for someone else to do it--you may be waiting awhile!

 Good morning everyone!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. We've had an amazing long stretch of nice weather - no rain for about a week. But it hasn't been too warm, so the plants aren't suffering from want of water.

Thanks you Nancy, for the 'cycle enouragement! I have today and tomorrow off, but I will "gear up" for a ride after I get my duties at home done. And thanks for the pounds off encouragement, too! I am amazed at how it's really become routine. I am hoping it lasts!

Kina, that is a super idea about getting your salad all prepared ahead of time. Being prepared for a meal makes it so much easier to stay "in the boundaries". Your kids go back to school already? My son's school starts the last week of August.

tryin'hard, your meal idea sounded so good! Is your tummy nice and tanned by now? Do you have a lake near you, or a beach?

jacklyn, hi! Glad your mini-vacay was inspiring. And you start the home business venture this week, correct? We wish you the best success!

hi kewi! How are things with you?

We sure miss our regulars whom we haven't heard from. Let's put out another plea for them to say hi!

Aphil, Sprite, Kanola, Christine, Latisia and Melisa - hope you ladies are just busy having summer fun! Say hello to us!

Oh! this is funny. I am finally at the weight that is on my driver's license!:o

Have a great day!

Your friend, Holly

Hello to everyone....

Tryin'hard~~~ You are amazing with the rollerblading..What an excellant way to burn calories. You are sure to have that weight off by vacation.

Holly~~~Hope you are enjoying your days off from work and putting some miles on the cycle!

We are still working on the bedroom and that should be done by the end of the week (I hope) I am thinking that the color may not really be what I want. So after we get one wall painted Ill step back and take a good look. ..as of right now I am thinking it may be a color that a Circus clown would wear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bruce took it back to the store and told them that he thought the formula was not right as it did not match the color chip...so they added some more of the darker tint...so now its a wait and see thing...

I had another good day of eating healthy!! Even though its that TOM ,, I managed to ignore my cravings and before you knew they were gone.
Tommorow is a dentist visit for me...So that will take care of my mouth for awhile...hmmm, just think if I could visit the dentist everyday for a month I could lose about 15 pounds...yeah I know that is drastic,,,,, as it is I have appts scheduled all the way till the end of October..

Well,,, got laundry to finish...so hope everyone has a good night and a awesome tomorrow......sleep tight...

 Good evening all!

tryin'hard - that is AWESOME - rollerblading that distance! I'm sure it rates up there as a calorie-burner, as it is both aerobic and uses the large muscle groups. don't you feel like a kid again?

Nancy - I hope your bedroom paint color can be corrected from the circus shade! I admire anyone who has the energy and sense of style to re-do their home - I have absolutely no sense of interior decorating.

I hope that your future dentist visits are painless and peaceful. And BIG congrats to you on resisting the dreaded PMS cravings!

Kina and kewi - hi ladies! Hope you're doing well!

I went kayaking for the first time yesterday! And it was SO great not to automatically think up of an excuse to say no, because of not wanting to be in public in a swimsuit. I just went and had a great time! and that, my friends, is GREAT!

Well, I'm going to "gear up" for a ride! Talk to you tomorrow, I hope!

Hello everyone! Holly first of all congrats on your loss! You are doing such a great job!! It is a nice feeling not to have to come up with excuses to wear a swim suit. I still feel self conscious in mine but it doesn't even compare to that sick feeling I used to get if I even thought I would have to wear one in public.

I've been pretty busy lately but am still reading posts. I am actually getting ready to take a walk....something I have neglected to do for a while. Good luck to everyone and tryin' hard I'm pulling for ya....I bet you'll hit your goal in a couple of weeks! Hello to everyone else! Oh yeah, Nancy I feel your pain on the painting. My husband bought a house before we even met and still live in it. He painted the master bedroom a color called "Ox Blood Red"......the name says it all.....no repeated trips to the paint store can fix that......have a good one!

Welcome back T-girl,

Very good to hear that you made it safely from Texas to Virginia! And very good at even losing more pounds. So glad to have you back.

I went to join WW today. And guess what ????the center here is closed for the summer. They wont reopen till September 11th. I cant beleive this. I feel as I live in a one horse town. We never had summer closures when I was going to WW in Ilinois.
This has really bummed me today as I was looking forward to doing this today.
I am at the point where I feel as If I need to be held accountable for myself and by going to the meetings I knew I would have to be weighed every week. And also It would be at least a 3 month commitment. As at this local WW you have to buy 10 weeks at once.
My mood is horrible today...even the hubby is staying away from me.
UGH what do I do now?????????? :?:

:) Hello everyone!

First, Hi T-Girl!!! Glad to hear from you! A big move like that must have been stressful. I hope you're happier in VA. It would be great if your mom could be off insulin. Does she have access to a computer? Would she enjoy talking to us?

Nancy, oh how disappointed you must have been, to put your hopes into the WW meeting for support, and then to find them closed! :( That stinks. Isn't there a WW thread here somewhere? I know it's not the same...what a bummer.

I'm sure your disappointment is great right now; but hopefully tomorrow you'll feel a little better about it.

jacklyn - thanks for the hurrah! Yes, I'm not TOTALLY non-self-conscious, but it's so much better than before. Oh my, Ox Blood Red - doesn't sound very restful for a bedroom :dizzy:

tryin'hard - how are you doing? Closer to the vacation each day...:)

Well, my motorcycle news for the day is that, if the outside temperature is 55 in the morning, that means a COLD ride at 50 mph! I have to find my winter gloves, and layer another sweater under my leather jacket. But I am enjoying it! I had to go slow through a construction site, and saw the guys nudging each other and glancing over at my shiny machine...makes me feel like a youngster again!

Have a great evening, and a super tomorrow!

Hi everyone. I hadn't been posting for a while. The kids are back in school so I have been busy keeping myself out of the house or busy. It's lonely when the kids are gone which means more time on my hands to keep stuffing food into my mouth. LOL Lord knows I don't need that. But I have been doing quite well I have to say.

Actually I have recieved a compliment finally from DH! I was too excited about that. Also I was unrecognized by the secretary at the college I attend and also work part time at. If you can follow that sentence that is amazing it was pretty shabby. I am sure you get the point. Anyway I went over to the college to register and I was standing sideways when the secretary was approaching me and she says "Hello, can I help you?" I turn to her and I say "Hi, it's me!" She was like "Wow, I didn't recognize you." Not that my weight loss is that noticeable I think it had just been a while. So then she says "Are you losing weight?" and I say "YES! Thank you for noticing!" I felt so good all over.

Well the messages from me may become far and few for a while. With the kids being in school means I will start working part time and then in September I start back to school myself. But I will check every chance I can get.

I was very happy to see all the positive vibe in here. talk later.

Hello everyone! Well I am actually happy to say that I have been able to stick with my program this week. I had to go back to work so I have been getting up at 5:30 to do some yoga or some sort of exercise and my husband and I have been walking in the evenings. After working at my "real" job all day I have been coming home and working on our home business to get that up and running. Needless to say, I have had little time to wander into the kitchen out of boredom, which has been my biggest problem in the past. So hopefully I am FINALLY getting back on track...FOR GOOD!!:)

Nancy~ I'm sorry to hear about the WW situation. Who would of thought that they would shut down?? It seems to me the summer would be when people are the most motivated...with the threat of the swimsuit and all:lol:

Well I better get back to work....hope everyone has a wonderful day!

:) Hi everyone!

Kina, congratulations on the compliment from that person!! That must have made you feel SO good. There's something to think of when your mood is low or when the munchies attack.

jacklyn, you must be really busy with the "real" job  and then starting your own business at home. I agree that there is nothing like being super-busy and preoccupied to help not think about food. Yikes, now THAT was a poorly-constructed sentence!

Hi Nancy! How are you today? we're all bummed for you about being disappointed about the WW meetings cancelled 'for the summer'. That's so dopey. Well, I know you have it in you to do it on your own! (with a little help from us friends!)

Some evil person  brought a bag of Doritos in the house...I know that I can't always ignore snack food but it's sure harder when it's in your own kitchen! I should make husband and kid eat the chips outside, where I can't smell or hear them crunching:lol:

Have a great night!

Welcome T-girl. Weight loss is the best way to improve your health. It is even better when you can work together as a team. My family has a weight loss challenge going. So a lot of my family members are involved we support each other and compete with each other. We are working towards a bank worth $750 bucks. Whoever loses the most on September 1 wins. I don't think I will win but that is okay. I just want to come out of the weight challenge weighing less than what I went in with on June 1. I think my dad is going to win he has the advantage of having a toothache. So he doesn't care to eat on account of the pain. The old ME would have said "Well I already lost what is the point!" But nope I am still working at. At this point my goal is to get as close to 190 by September 1 when we weigh in for the last time. I am so close today I am at 202.5 which feels so great. Well enough about me.

What are you doing to lose the weight?

Talk more later. kina

Hello everyone! I have been pretty busy around here lately. My eating has its ups and downs but as I said before I am slowly getting back on track. It is a daily struggle however, fighting the thoughts of "What's the use??" But I keep trucking along. I can only blame myself though, it seems that I alone can sabatage all of my efforts in a single day. I'll be doing great and then go on a binge.

On the good side of things I have managed to get up each day before work and exercise, so hopefully that will be a new forming habit:)

Hope everyone has a great day and weekend. I'll check in later!

Heys girls,,,how the heck is everyone?????

Jacklyn~~~so sorry to hear you are having a slump...I can relate totally...I have been that way since I got home from vacation. But tomorrow I am starting my WW at home. I have all the materials so I know I can do it. I have done it sucessfully a dozen times. I know the slumps happen to us all.. we just need to not let them get out of hand. I am scared to death to get on the scale tomorrow. But I am even more afraid that if I dont ,, Ill just keep gaining and gaining!! Remember you have come a long way and you are feeling so good about yourself dont give up on you!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Holly, Kina, Tryin'hard,Kewi,Tgirl and all the rest~~~ How are you girls today??? I hope you had an awesome weekend and that you are feeling good about yourselves!!!!

Well the bedroom is all painted and almost put back togther. I still am not sure about the color.. after we got it all done I told my hubby that it still looked like a circus clown color...as long as he dosent start sporting a big red nose and big floppy shoes Ill be ok with it(I think).. but anyway, it looks nice,(In a Barnum and Bailey sort of way)

Well I hope everyone is doing well and will come on here and say hello... Ill be sure to let you guys know my official weigh in tomorrow...am feeling really pumped right now about getting back on it.. Wish me luck......

Hello Hello Hello! Here I am 2 lbs lighter and 2.5 lbs away from my mini goal of 200. I have not weighed 200 since 2000. I am too excited. I have to go to the DR for a checkup and I am dreading it big time. Why? Well my scale says one thing and their scale says another thing and it usually higher than my home scale. Which really puts me in the slump. But that was before I found 3FC. So when I get the nerve to go and get weighed I will run back home and vent of the thread. Heck who knows maybe I will be chearing. Yeah I will think of it in a positive way. Because actually the last time I was at the DR I was at 215.5 I am sure I have gone down from that. So from 215.5 anything less than that will be an achievement.

Wow Snowey you are a brave one. Those colors sound really bold. Let me know if you start having circus dreams.LOL. I bet it is very pretty. Many times we have to adjust to changes and I am sure this is one of those times.

Good morning everyone! I hope you are all starting the week on in great spirits!
I am doing well. I had a rough day on Saturday. We visited friends and went to a very early balloon festival (AMAZING!!) and didn't eat b'fast until 10:30, which meant lunch at 3 pm and dinner was all screwed up because no one was really hungry, so we just 'picked'. Ugh...woke up like a slug yesterday. It's my TOM, so I think I'll wait a day or two to get back on the scale.
I plan to rollerblade every day this week, as my vacation starts on Friday! We are going to Cape Cod for a week and then to Long Island for three days. Hopefully lots of beach weather! So, this week is marathon get-ready-for-vacation time. My goal is to come home weighing the same. I don't want to loose and I don't want to gain. I think that's do-able, especially since we do a lot of bike riding and walking.
Well, I hope you're all doing well. Snowey--how's DAY 1 going? I am so proud of you for knowing what you have to do. Nancy--hope you were able to put the gloves away for a couple of days! It's amazing how quickly the summer has gone...
I hope the rest of you are doing well--Kina--I hope your DR was proud of you! I hope you let him know how hard you've been trying!
Have a great day!

Hello everyone! I woke up this morning with the same promises that I always make when I say "This time I am going to do it!!". Hopefully I will be able to stick with it! So far so good, although its only 8:30 in the morning here!:p

I do have a plan though, and one of the things that I want to do differently is add more fiber to my diet. Thats supposed to fill you up I believe. Here lately though, the problem has not been my hunger, I have been eating.... just because. I wont even be hungry and will be thinking about what I can snack on next! Bad habit I know. My new philosophy is "one day at a time". If I can just stick to that, meet each daily goal, I know that I will eventually get there!

One thing that I would like to do is reach my goal by my 30th birthday which is at the end of December.....5 months away and completely doable. But for now...my goal is to get through today...stay within calories, walk tonight, drink my 8 glasses of water, and watch the fat intake. I can definitely do that!!! I'll let you know how I do tomorrow. Check in later!

Kina

Well just like i thought the DRs scale is higher than mine. But I got a pat on my back because from her records I am at 208 which puts 5.5 lbs less than my last visit. So she was really proud of me. I am happy as well. She said I could come by any time to weigh myself as long as it was not busy. So I might take her up on her offer. Because I really want her scale to show 200 very soon.

I got the call I had been waiting for today. My seasonal job just started so they called me to go in this afternoon. I am so happy especially after recieving a $400 electric bill. I think it is a mistake but in the meantime while they are checking it I have to pay it. So thankfully somebody heard my prayers last night. See even thoguh DH has a great job he has been rained out for the past few weeks. So his checks haven't been so great. They have just been keeping affloat until we got this electric bill in. So we are both relieved that I will be working and getting a pay check next week.

I must run I have so much to do since I won't be here this evening for dinner time. I have to get dinner started ahead of time. So many positive thoughts to all of you. I hope that you have a day full of SMILES, LOVE, and HAPPINESS.

Howdy all......

Today is the first day of following my WW at home. I am pumped up and full of determination. But I have to admit I got on the scale and it read 203.5.... :fr: I knew it would. Am I going to let it get me down?,,,,,no way !!! So its a fresh start for me. I will faithfully weigh in every Monday morning. I bought a journel to right everything down and also I have filled in a chart all they way till November with starting weight, pounds lost etc.
The hubby is doing this with me again. His starting weight this morning was 187. One day I know I will weigh less then him....

Kina~~~ Way to go on the pounds down...You are doing great!:cp:
Yikes!!! Sorry to hear about the huge electric bill. I do hope that is is a mistake on their part.

Tryinhard'~~~You are just a rollerblading fool!!! How do you get the energy? Can you send some of that energy this way????
Have a great time in Cape Cod... I absolutely love it there! We took the ferry over to Martha's Vineyard and had a wonderful time there also...will you be doing that also? I could live on the east coast!!!!!!
And dont worry , you will be fine(weight wise) just keep those rollerblades "smoking" :smoking:

Jacklyn~~~YOU will reach your goal by December. Look how far you have come already. You are only a hop skip and a jump :sheep: away from it now!!!!!! Keep on trucking missy, it will happen for you!!!!!!! Ahhhh,,, what a wonderful 30th birthday gift you will be giving your self!!!!!!! :)

Holly~~~ Where the heck are you?? Get your skinny butt back here.....!!!

Hello to everyone else,, hopefully when summer begins to wind down, all of our missing in action friends will be back with us once again.....

Ok, I am off to make a big pot of Garden Vegetable soup..its 0 points so it will be good to have on hand for any weak momemts that I may have...but as of now I am not anticipating any of those...geesh I feel so pumped , I hope I feel this way for a long time....

:cb: Hi everyone!!!

First, kudos to the site administrators for giving us the additional cool smilies and symbols! :cp:

Then, apologies for my missing a couple of days. I had to adjust my schedule this week and got all out of whack. Plus some other stuff to take care of regarding my late father's estate (after more than two years, still not settled!) And STILL don't have my email and Internet access on MY computer!

Jacklyn, we're all pulling for you. But gosh, how can the words "what's the use" relate to a strong woman who has already lost 30 some pounds. You were motivated and strong before; you can do it again!!! Just keep on the "one day at a time" mantra...

Nancy, glad the bedroom is done. I'm sure it looks great! You are also strong and determined to be able to use your WW tools on your own. GO GO girl!!! And THANKS for saying I have a skinny butt!! It isn't but thanks anyway!

Kina (love your changing photos!) Way to Go! That's so great that you're down the pounds, and that your doctor congratulated you. And isn't it something that when you think you're going to be strapped for funds, something comes through...thank goodness for that. I used the concept of "mini-goals" because a larger amount seemed too hopeless..but smaller increments were "do-able".

tryin'hard - you roller-bladin' kid you!:) I'm sure you'll be able to not gain any on your vacation, as you're so active. Isn't it great to look forward to fun in the sun, without the self-consciousness. I hope you have a GREAT time!!

hi t-girl!!I hope you're settled in from the move. So this is where your family is? I'm sure your mom is glad to have you close. Are you still doing your Tae-Bo thang?:D

Ladies, this just feels like MY summer!!!! I'm wearing the jeans that were WAY back in my closet; a pair of Chic size10 tall fit well, with room to spare, AND I graduated to size 6 undies, as opposed to the 7's I've worn forever. We liked kayaying so much last week, we bought one today. And I am having such a blast riding the motorcycle to work, and enjoying the attention that it gathers from everyone...from little kids to older folks, saying "it's great to see a girl rider!" In fact, today, when I was gassing up, I heard a little girl say "Mommy, can girls ride motorcycles?" I turned around with a big smile and said "Sweetie, girls can do ANYTHING!" Then chatted with her mom, and waved goodbye. The little girl's mouth was hanging open as I vroomed away.

I don't want summer to end!!!

Everyone have a GREAT evening, and a wonderful day tomorrow. We are all getting better and will have healthier, happier lives!

How is everyone today??
Its another chilly dreary, gloomy day here in Northern BC. But am I going to let that get me down.....NO WAY!!! Going to make the most of this gray day!

Had a great OP day yesterday. I am suppose to have between 24-29 points for the day and I did not eat tham at all. I only had 19 for the entire day. That is not a good thing to let happen. So today Ill make sure I eat within my points range. It seems funny to say that I did not eat enough yesterday. I made the WW garden veggie soup yesterday and it was great, even the hubby liked it. Its 0 points and so very tasty.

Jacklyn~~~ So good to hear that you had a great day yesterday also!!!! I am sure it will be a great day for you as well. You are so close to where you want to be and you know exactly how to get there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!

We also started out as a pouring rain morning...then the clouds lifted and humidity dropped, and now it is just beautiful out. I'm going to go cut the grass - that's good for a 1 - 1/2 hour activity!

Husband brought chinese food home tonight, the first time in a LONG time...I had my fave, egg foo yong, but couldn't finish it and actually felt kind of yucky after eating it.

Nancy, hooray to you for sticking to the points range for you! Even having less than you're allowed...that shows your self-control is STRONG!

And yay to Jacklyn for having a great day also!!!!!

Happy dancing bananas to everyone!

Hi everyone!
I know I haven't been around for a while...it has been pretty stressful and busy lately.
My husbands grandfather finally lost his battle with cancer and passed away last week. We were lucky enough to be able to spend some good times with him in his last couple months. It has been hard-my kids were as close to their "Great-Papaw Joe" as they are there grandparents-we all have summer campers or cottages on a lake nearby.
I have also been getting ready to have a huge rummage sale. I have boxes and junk all over-it is going to be Saturday.
With all of the stress I have been eatig like a maniac up until this past week-and I have straightened up and lost 3 of what I have gained.
I have been doing about 25 minutes of weight training every morning-and either my exercise bike, bellydancing, yoga, or line dancing each day for 30 minutes. I hate aerobic classes or tapes-I have to do something that keeps me interested-and when I do the bike-I read.
I do love my weight training though...
I am a busy mom with two young kids-so I often have a SLim-Fast , Promax bar, or some sort of meal replacement for breakfast since I am tending to the kids-then I eat regular meals and snacks with lots of fruits and a salad each day. I tried a new product today-and it was GREAT! SlimFast has a new meal bar that is in a granola bar form, not the regular protein bar form. THEY ARE WONDERFUL! I don't like milk much, and hate taking vitamins-so a meal replacement is usually how I get my vitamins each day...
I am really going to try and stay on this thread on a more regular basis...thanks Vermont Mom for keeping it going in my absence. I am glad you all are still here. ;)
Well, I better get Raiden ready for his nap...and I about laughed my butt off when I read the thing about the weight finally being corect on the drivers license a few posts back!

Hi Aphil,, welcome back!
Condolences on the loss in your family. You are fortunate to have the good times with him in the last few months.
Congrats on losing 3 pounds. Looks like you are on your way again!

Yesterday was another great OP day for me.. but once again, I did not meet my daily point range. I only had 21 (of 24-29) But will be sure to fix that today. If you eat too low you wont lose anything at all.

How is everyone else doing today? Staying strong I hope.

Well going to go out and enjoy some of the sunshine that we are so lucky to have today. Ill check in later. Keep smiling everyone:)

:cb: Hello everyone!

Hi aphil, welcome back!!! I am very sorry about your husband's grandfather passing on. This sounds lame, but it's wonderful when an adult can still have a grandfather in their life; and for the kids to know their great-grandparent. It's such a special relationship.

Wow, you sure sound busy. Getting stuff ready for a rummage sale is a huge undertaking. Good luck on Saturday!

Hi Nancy, you GO for staying under your points range! But don't go too low!:)

We had a BEE-yoo-ti-ful day here! Lots of sunshine early in AM and no fog, so my 'cycle ride to work was great; and when I came home discovered my husband bought a SECOND kayak (a two-person) so now he and I and our younger son (12) can go out on the lake. So we did! and it was super. I have been neglecting stuff that I really should be doing (like housework, and some volunteer committee stuff) but boy howdy, I'd sure rather be enjoying summer!!!!

Thanks for sharing your find about the better meal-replacement bar, aphil. Sometimes that's all that one can grab, instead of going hungry.

I'm also scrunching things together this week, as I have my motorcycle safety course this weekend - it starts at 6:00 pm on Friday, to 9:00 pm, which is classroom time; then 8:00 am Saturday til 5:00 pm we're "on the range" learning all kinds of safety techniques and maneuvers; then again same on Sunday. If I pass the skills test, then I earn the motorcycle endorsement on my driver's license. Woo Hoo! But preparing to take a weekend off, when I ususally work Saturday and Sunday is alot of work now!

Blah blah; enough of my life. Hello to everyone and hope you're all doing good!!!

Vermont Mom,
What kind of motorcycle do you ride? My husband has a H-D, and I have been itching to get my own sometime in the future and learn to ride...Jason wants me to take a class like you are.
I had a good day today...weight training was on shoulders, inner thighs, calves, and back. I also walked quite a bit today-running around getting things ready for the rummage and shopping. I also parked farther out in the parking lot to get a bit more in.
Well, I better get ready for bed-talk at ya'll later.
Keep up the great work ladies!

Hope every is having a good day.

I am doing so darn great with this WW program. I am doing a happy dance for myself   :dance:I have to actually force my self to eat my points and am still coming in under my minimum. Today is day four and I'm feeling good!

We rented some DVD's last night...geesh talk about tearjerkers....oh my!!!!! The first one was John Q with Denzel Washington and the second was Life as a House with Kevin Kline...they were both good and if you need a good cry... I would suggest renting these movies. Now I need to get some funny ones... dont think I could handle any more tears...:)

Well I hope everyone has a great day and that you keep smiling!

See ya later

:) Hello everyone!

Yeehaw, I 'm finally back at my own computer station with my email and Internet access.

You are doing SO GREAT Nancy!!! You're so full of enthusiasm and have the inner strength to keep up the good work! You will be seeing great results soon!!! :strong:

aphil, I have a 2002 Honda Shadow VLX VT600. It was my Mother's Day present! I always enjoyed riding behind my husband but felt this year that learning to ride was something I needed to challange myself with. I also think I subconsciously wanted my kids to be a certain age before I undertook a slightly risky hobby...;)

We went to the lake to kayak again today, and I witnessed some things that made me think...you know how you can always find someone who you think looks so much better than you, whether it's a better figure, or great hair, or whatever, and you might envy them...well, there were some families having a cookout, and the moms were relatively young and with great figures, but oh my gosh, they really gave the impression of being horrible parents/nasty people. Just braying out yelling at their kids in the water when the kids were squabbling, yelling at a little boy who was playing/running from his dad but the dad was bellowing at him (while clutching his beer) that the kid was going to get a "tanning" when the father caught him...how can kids grow up to be well-adjusted members of society with crappy parents like that...:o

Okay, on to positive thoughts! Everyone have a GREAT strong day tomorrow!!! I'll let you know how the first day of my course is!

Hi everyone! A quick post before I start packing for Cape Cod!
Welcome back Aphil--we missed you! Sorry about your loss--there's no greater love than the love a grandparent has...
I have been doing well. I had hoped to loose another pound, but I guess I'll have to settle for 99! I hope to come back from vacation at the same weight. Wish me luck!
Some great news... I have taken an additional position. I will be, in addition to my classroom teaching responsibilities, a regional coordinator for an enrichment program offered by Johns Hopkins University! I am very excited about it, but also know that I'll be working a lot! But, if I keep busy, I don't eat, so I should weigh 80 pounds in a few months (onlykidding!)
I'll miss you guys next week. I hope you all have great days and Snowey--keep us posted on your daily successes--we know you can do it!
Holly--what's up with your goal? Are you playing around with it like I do? I should really be happy with 151, but now I'm thinking, wouldn't it be great to be in the 140's??? Be careful riding--watch out for drivers like me!!!
Take care all--check in with you in a week!

Hi,
I just love those little dancing thingies...I am trying to figure out if they are baby seals, marshmallows, or what.
I am down now a total of five since I have come back to my senses...hopefully soon I will undo the damage I have done lately, and I can begin to get stronger and thinner.
The rummge is tommorow...I cannot wait to get rid of some of this stuff...

Hello everyone!

I haven't checked in in a couple of days but it looks like everyone is doing great!! I have been so busy lately. The good news is this home business has really taken off! I haven't gotten to bed before 12:30 all week (only to get up at 5:30am). One thing that has kept me going is thinking of all the extra calories I'm burning while I'm up:) Kinda sad but I've been so tired I'll do anything to keep myself motivated:lol:

Well I've got to get moving...this house is a mess since its been neglected all week, and of course hubby decided to invite some friends over for tonight. Talk to you all later!

Well, I gained 2 lbs while my company was here. I was doing well the first 5 days because we were doing so much walking going different places. The last 5 days we did more sitting around, talking and eating and it seems those 2 lbs just hopped on fast! I've kept up with my weights except for that one week with company but my eating has been over the top! Fairly good choices but too much of everything. So, today I start my tried and true "Mom's Way". I can eat what I choose but I eat small quantities. It works for me, usually, so wish me luck!! Nancy, you sound like your old self-full of spunk and determination. Aphil, we are so glad to have you back and to help if you need us. Holly, I need to catch up with you as your weight is more where I want to be. I think that my weight would be fine if I could put half the fat I carry in my butt cheeks onto my chest!!! But since I can't, I need to lose some more. Have a great weekend everyone! Kewi

Well here I am today glad to say work has not gotten the best of me. I am able to say 1 lb less than last week. I stuck with my slim fast or salads and fruit or yogurt. And I stayed away from the vending machine. Didn't try to get any soda pop from the soda machine. I would just get a bottled water and then refill from the fountain. Although I haven't been getting much exercise in. That is something i really need to work on. But they told us this weekend would be our last weekend off. We would be expected to work 7 days a week. WOW! I was expecting them to tell us 6 days not 7. O well. I guess that means a bigger check. But I remain focused towards my goal. I am only 1.5 away from seeing 200. After that I will work in 10's. I think that will work.

Well I better run. I am spending quality time with the family this weekend since it will be my last. bye

Hi everyone,
I am still holding at the same weight-and have been doing my bike and weights, just ate a bit more yesterday than I should have-it was also good stuff-just a little more.
I found the greatest diet soda if anyone likes red cream soda...it is Diet Big Red-they have it at Kroger or Scott's-I do not know about anywhere else. I usually have Diet Coke or Pepsi One-but now and then I get a kid type craving, and have a Diet Sunkist or Diet A&W-which are also both great.
The rummage sale went fabulous-I got rid of tons of stuff taking up space in our house and storage garage-our old dishwasher, tons of baby clothes, books, and even some old jewelry I do not wear anymore. I sold the jewelry for much less than it was worth-even had a ruby ring, pink ice ring, and a speck of a diamond solitaire-but there is no sense having it if I do not wear them anymore, so I let someone else enjoy them.
All in all-I made over $365. :D
Kina-I know how you feel having company-it must have been hard for you to have them all week. I have never had to do it for that long. I have set splurge days on my eating-my birthday, anniversary, Christmas, and Thanksgiving. I eat my normal healthy low calorie/point breakfast, but at the "family" meal, or the anniversary date with my husband, I eat whatever I want at that meal, just in smaller portions than I normally would-and I have one dessert. In our family-the desserts are spread all over, and everyone grazes on them all day-but I make myself choose only one, and really savor it and eat it slowly.
When I got to my goal weight after my first baby-what I did instead of adding a bit more calories/points every day for maintenence, was that I ate in my weight loss calories/points through the week, and ate whatever I wanted Saturday and Sunday in reasonable amounts. It worked for me really well and I didn't gain back.
kewi-the thing you said about putting your butt fat on your chest...that would not work for me...I wear a DD, and at goal weight I only "shrink down to a D. :^:
Jacklyn, what are you doing for your home business? I would love to hear about it!

Hello everyone! Ever feel like you need a kick in the you know what to get you going?? Well I have had it this morning. Our friends had invited us to a pool party today. I, of course, do not want to go...for obvious reasons. I tried to give my best excuse and they will not take no for an answer. They are expecting us sometime today. So here I am...thinking if only I had stuck with it......you know how we all do that.

Anyways, I have spent the morning getting mad at myself because it is crazy to hold myself back from doing things because of the way my body looks....if it bothers me that much, I obviously need to do something about it!!!! Rather than make empty promises to myself. So here's to another shot of renewed faith, promises, and hope. I'm pretty angry at myself too....I'm hoping to use that productively as well.

On a ligher note, Aphil~ I have started making hand made soaps. It started out as just a little hobby. Then after some friends saw it they wanted to know how much I would charge for it, I had a lightbulb moment and decided...why not? I have a friend who owns her own business and wants to sell it as well. And I'm starting to get in XMas orders already! Crazy huh? So in about a months time it has taken off with leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, the entire process takes a couple of weeks so it is slow and very time consuming. And on top of a full time job, I have been extremely busy! The good thing is that I am definitely keeping busyin the evenings, and its hard to eat when you are knee deep in soap!

Everyone have a great day! Wish me luck today!

Good Morning Gang!!

Had a great day yesterday, we went to a town about 2.5 hours from here with some friends. Its a town right on the ocean (you can take the ferry to Alaska from there) and we walked around the docks and the little gift shops. Had lunch in a resturant right on the water. The weather was perfect (and is again today also)
It was a great time for sure!

Today is day 7 of being completely OP. I am feeling so good and feeling so in control!! I hope tomorrows weigh in will reflect what a great week this has been!

Kewi~~ You will have those 2 pounds gone and more before you know it!! You have lost so much already! You seem to be so disiplined with your weights also. I need to get started with the weights, but I have been saying that for years.. (do you think I have become accustomed to the Rocky the flying squirrel arms that I have?)

Kina~~ Good for you on being 1 pound down! So very soon you will be in "One der land" and will be doing the happy dance  Sorry to hear that you will be working so much, how long will you be doing that?

Aphil~~ I love that Diet Big Red soda, I use to drink it when I lived in Illlinois. I agree with you, that sometime you get the kid type craving for different flavors. We get a diet soda here that is a diet Grapefruit its quite good and refreshing. Good for you on the cash haul with your sale. Do you plan on doing anything special with the money? Maybe a new outfit or two? Remember those 5 pounds you just lost will turn into 10, 15, 20.....you will need new clothes!!!! :)

Jacklyn~~ You dont need a kick in the butt,,,,,you need to go to that pool party, you need to have fun and you need to tell yourself that you look good !!! You have lost 34 pounds and you need to show that off!!!! Don't be angry with yourself. Be happy and proud of the accomplishments that you have made already. **** ,I wish I was there, I would go to that pool party with you and I would go up to every person there and say, " Look at my friend Jacklyn, dosent she look great? " Soon they would be falling over you wanting to know your secret!!!!!!!!!
Your body has changed, so now the thought pattern has to change. Time to think like a thin person...because that is what you are !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Go have fun and be sure to come back and post and let us know about the good time you had!!!!

Holly~~ How are you today? Having fun kayaking and motorcycling I bet...

Ok I am going to go see if hubby wants to pack a lunch , head out for drive and a mini picnic... we dont get many beautiful days here so need to take full advantage of them while their here!!!!

See everyone later....have a great day!!

 Hi everyone! I'm here, I'm here!

Wow, I feel like I've lost the past three days, but my big news is that my course was this weekend and I PASSED and now have my motorcycle license!!!

Nancy, you are so insightful. Your message to jacklyn about her thought process being different by being smaller now is right on. I'm wishing you a terrific weigh-in which will encourage you even more!!! Rock on!!! I can also picture you slim and gorgeous!!!

jacklyn, how creative to make handmade soaps! I'm so glad the business is taking off and keeping you busy! And sister, give yourself credit for the weight you have lost, and that you are probably mighty-fine-looking, and healthier and fitter!!!!!

kewi, it sure is difficult to not gain when you have friends/family over for extended time. You will pare it off in no time, with the calorie-burning muscle that you have. You have such a point about it being too bad that we can't move handfulls of fat from one part of our body and paste it on our chest! And I have lost inches off my chest - bless my husband, who says he like me best whatever way I am!:)

tryin'hard, hope you have a great vacation! And congratulations on your additional position!

I don't know what's up with my goal weight. As Nancy said to jacklyn, it really is hard to picture oneself differently than how you see yourself. I still see big legs, big hips; chunky all over. However, I have to listen to things like what I heard today; I was telling one of my coursemates that I told myself to lose weight so I could try motorcycling, and one woman said; "you've lost 26 pounds? You just look so thin now!" Now, ME and "thin" are just NOT words that I ever think of togther. Really. I've been chunky since I was like 8 years old. So my self-image if rather skewed. I think I would like to see numbers in the 140's also...

kina, hi! Woo-hoo to you for being down another pound! I think your strategy is terrific, about taking it in 10 pounds increments, which makes it seem easier to manage. congrats to you also for resisting temptations at work, like stuff in the machines. You've got it in control when you bring your good food in, and just have the occasional diet soda.

I LOVE to drink diet soda; could easily have 3 cans a day; but found that having one made me want to have something with it, like pretzels. Or a sandwich. Or a loaded pizza. So I've made the effort not to buy the soda like we used to.

aphil, congrats on the five pounds gone, gone!! Glad your rummage sale was a success. It sure does feel good to clear stuff out, AND make money too!!
Do you ride behind your husband on his HD? If your state offers the Beginner's Riding course, I wholeheartedly recommend it. We had people, both men and women, who had NEVER been on a bike before Friday; and by Saturday afternoon they were maneuvering around so well. And of those people who had never been on a bike, 3 of them passed and earned their license today.

Well, I am TOTALLY fried now. I worked a double on Friday; then drove 50 miles to the course, got home at 11:00 pm; up at 5:30 am yesterday to get ready for the second day of course; got home at 6:30; up at 6:00 today and got home at 6:30 - back to work tomorrow - what the heck day is it now?:dizzy:

Goodnight friends!

Hi ladies,
Boy, yesterday was miserable! Our heat index was 105*-and it was so humid and muggy.
VermontM-I am so proud of you for passing the course! I have never driven a motorcycle yet, but have rode on the back of many...My husband wants me to take an ABATE (spelling?) course similar to what you took. When I reach goal weight, I am going to get me a pair of faded out looking boot cut Harley blue jeans...and the sexy chunky heeled black Harley boots for ladies. I am normally an Old Navy type of everyday dresser, but I love to wear something totally un-ME now and then. It can be very freeing. I guess that is why I am into making costumes.
When I do my bellydancing classes, I actually have a hip scarf that has the little coins on it that jingle-it seems when you are doing something, if you dress the part, you get more into what you are doing, and get more OUT of it in return.
Funny what you said about diet soda making you want to eat. I drink lots of water-but I usually have an iced tea or flavored diet soda between some meals when I WANT to eat. It usually helps me because I am tasting something, and doing something with my mouth. So needless to say-I am always drinking something when I am at a family function. :^:
I am glad everyone is doing so well-and here is my word of advice for the day-"If it was easy, everyone would be thin." We have to realize that some of us will have to work at this every day for the rest of our lives. Be strong ladies, and be well.

Hello everyone!

Nancy~I appreciate your kind words:)I know that it is a mind set about my size, and like Holly I still see the chunky legs etc. I do need to focus on more of the positive though. I know that one of my problems now is that I have lost 30 something pounds and have been at a stand still for a while and I just get frustrated. Also, I know that I have not been doing as well as I should in order to lose the weight. Yesterday did get to me though. I did pretty well with my eating also. I kept thinking "no more...if it bothers me this much, it is definitely time to do something about it!!"

I've also decided that I am only going to weigh twice a month...on the 1st and the 15th. Again I am going to focus on the one day at a time.

Congrats to those with losses and to Holly for passing the test!! I'll check in later (since I am at work now :s: )

Today was weigh in and it was not as good as I was hoping. I was only down 2 pounds. I thought it would have been more as I was totally perfect and did not falter once! Still its a loss so I am pleased about that !! I am still feeling good and I know I will succeed. Because soon the 2 will be 4 and the 4 will be 8 and so on , and so on !!!!!!

Holly~~~ Way to go on passing your course!!!!!! Doing the happy dance for you !!!!! :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:

Guess what?? I decided to color my hair last night.......do I like it you ask?????? right now I am thinking it looks a little dark. I look like the female version of Fat Elvis !!!!! Nah, I would never wear a outfit belted at the waist like that so I cant look like female Elvis !!!

Ok I am outta here for now...will check back later.

Have a great Monday everyone and keep smiling!! :)

Thanks, everyone. I know the extra 2 will go soon. Last night I was cruising other forums on this site - weight loss surgery mainly - to get info for a firend and found a link to a great site if you are interested in starting weight lifting, stumptuous.com/weights.html. Lots of basic info. I also found some input from Mrs. Jim on other forums and her sign on says something like" Weight? Don't know, don't care, feeling good and looking good in a size four!" That is where I'd like to be. I'll never be a size four mind you, but just that attitude. It would be scary to not ever weigh but clothes fit should tell the tale, right? It was also said that women who lift weights would do well to not weigh because muscle is denser than fat so that 5 lbs of muscle takes up less space than 5 lbs of fat, which we all know. I also read of a woman who gained 14 pounds as she increased her muscle but dropped 2 dress sizes, 14 down to a 10. This sounds very healthy to me. It is nothing I haven't heard before but you know how it is - sometimes a thing just clicks. I'll have to mull it over awhile and see if I am ready to commit to more weight lifting and can abandon the scale. :)

Hi ladies,
WeI rewarded myself with a new pair of athletic shoes today-for two reasons-one, for getting back in the swing of things and getting a move on losing the weight I had gained back recently, and second-because I am a sort of mom who buys Gap and Old Navy clothes for my kids, and I go around in a shirt I have had for four years.:?:
I do so many different types of exercise-walking, dance, weights, etc. that I usually wear cross trainers. I found a great pair of Nike ones on sale for only $40! I was also checking out some walking shoes by New Balance and Reebok-and I thought of you girls who do the speedwalking. They are supposed to support the gait you use when walking that way-just like running shoes are bigger and firmer around the heel where there is the most impact, and lighter at the toes. It really makes a difference to wear the correct type of shoes for your exercise-treat yourselves ladies, if you haven't already!
Today has been a really good eating day-hot cereal at breakfast, a protein bar for a snack, a small serving of chili-mostly beans and tomatoes at lunch, and a small serving of spaghetti and marinara sauce at dinner. My snack later will be cut up fruit.
My mother came over today and showed me the Daphne Scooby Doo Barbie doll she bought my daughter for her birthday next month-it is adorable. She is really supportive of what I am doing-my stepfather's a real health nut-and has gotten her into it-so I have someone to talk to about workouts and calories and such.
Well, I have set a mini-goal. My husband's class reunion is in the end of September-and I want to turn this 5 pounds into 16 by then...

:) Hi guys!

Whew, aphil, what an uncomfortable muggy day for you! The only way to spend a day like that is by a pool, or a lake..Yeah, sister, I can see you in those sexy jeans and black heeled boots on a bike! I love seeing women on motorcycles!

Thank you all for the congrats on my test! However, I didn't ride to work today because I was still so fatigued from the weekend. A wise choice, I think.

Okay, you can bop me on the head for having more good news, but I went jeans shopping today, and I am aghast that I fit into size 8, both Gitano and Rider. I just can't believe it. I have never been that size in jeans before, not even as a young teenager. Back then I was always an 11/12, or 12, or 13/14...I am just so thrilled. I keep unzipping them to check the size tag!

Hope everyone is doing well and feeling good!!

Nancy - how was your weigh-in? was it today? Sending you positive thoughts!!!!!

Your friend, Holly

Dopey me - I posted my reply before I read posts on page 4!
Sorry that your loss wasn't as much as you wished for, Nancy. We know that you were doing stupendously! Yes, the two will become 4, and so on, and so on!!

Hooray for another good day for you, aphil! Very sensible eating. And great that you have someone to talk to about working out. We know that you will be working towards the goal of the reunion and looking and feeling good!

yes, kina, working with weights is really so beneficial for weight loss/weight maintenance. And so true that one could actually gain weight but be smaller.

Hello everyone!

I've been pretty busy lately....as always, but not complaining:D I've been doing pretty well with drinking my water and can actually tell a difference with my skin tone. I don't have adult acne or anything, but I feel like it glows a little more. Amazing what a little hydration can do.

Yesterday was okay for me. I ate a little too much for dinner last night, but it was because I didn't get a chance to eat much of anything during the day, so when I did get a chance...watch out!!! I was starving! But it is nothing that I can't recover from. :)

I been doing good today, and found out that my hubby has to work later tonight, so if I have time I may go on a long walk...if its not too hot here. We'll see.

Congrats Holly on the size 8!! I can hear those black leather pants calling you now! Everyone else congrats on your losses. Hopefully I will be joining the elite club of the "losers" soon!

:) :) Hello to everyone. Hi Snowey I am here. I wish I was on a vacation as well. But not just yet. I have the greatest news everybody:flow2:. I don't weigh myself as often as I had been doing before I started working. Well I jumped on the scale just for the heck of it, this morning...would you believe me I hit my goal!!! 200! I am so excited! :cb: There is no turning back now it is going to be all 100s from here on out!

As you know I work at night so I went back to bed to get more rest. That was at 8:30 this morning. I woke up the 2nd time around at 12:00 and hopped on the scale again this time it read 199.5. I don't know which to go with but I am going to stick with the 200 and then work at it.

I keep jumping on the scale every few minutes. I guess because it is so unbelievable:love: but I am loving the feeling I get each time I jump on there and see that it says the same thing each time. I just never thought I would see this ever. Just to think last September I was weighing 225. So much has changed since then. I am really looking forward to taking out the clothes I placed on layaway and taking them right back for the next smaller size. My mom had warned me but I told her I haven't lost enough to go down a size. She says "Oh yes you have." I didn't believe her until 1. I saw the scale and 2. when I put on my plus size 18 jeans and they weren't digging in. They are loose enough on me that I was able to put on my sweat belt underneath and wear it all day at work without feeling uncomfortable. Now that is a great success in my book.

Sorry this was a long post but I just can't find the right words to express myself. Talk more later hopefully at 199!;)

Congrats Kina!! We must have been posting at the same time. Dont you just love it when you actually look forward to weighing yourself?? I used to do that whenever I had a significant loss....jump on, jump off, jump on, jump off...just to make sure it stayed the same! I'm sure you'll be in the 100's for good in no time!! Maybe you'll even win that bet!

Way to go girl! That is so cool to be able to see a whole different set of numbers on the scale, isn't it. Now it's all "downhill" - or "downscale" from now on!!!!!

Hi Nancy! Your dinner sounded yummy! Do you make just enough for two servings, or is it portioned out so there's another meal's worth? I'm glad that you had a beautiful sunny day today. We were overcast and CHILLY! In the 60's all day.

Hiya jacklyn - good to hear that you're too busy to detract from your goals. And you're ALREADY an elite loser!

Hi aphil - has your weather cooled down any? Or is it pretty much hot all summer where you are?

Today I had to solicit donations from area businessess (is that spelled correctly?) for our fire department's auxiliary - boy, I hate begging for donations. I end up buying something from each store before I have the courage to ask...but I bought three pairs of nice earrings today! And actually got two good donations and the promise of maybe 6 more. ;)

Hope the vacationing tryin'hard is both having a great time and resisting the many caloric temptations of beach fun...

I rode to our closest Motor Vehicles office (in Montpelier, our capital city, which is actually just a large town!) to get my new photo license with my motorcycle endorsement...26 miles there and back! It was great! AND my photo came out good! You know how differently we sometimes see ourselves - well, I saw that photo, and said, oh my gosh, I can actually see that my face is slimmer. I like it!:D I showed it to my son, and asked "Pat, do I really look like this?" He looked at me strangely, and said "well, yeah, Mom, it IS a picture of you that they just took today". Kids are so darn honest...:p

Well, I had today off, so back to work tomorrow...Have a nice evening and a great day tomorrow!

Hello everyone! Glad to hear that everyone is still on track! What a motivating thread!

I did pretty good yesterday. Stayed within my calorie range and went for a pretty good walk last night. Turns out my husband only had to work for an hour so when he got home we did our grocery shopping together (which is usually a dangerous thing....he SWEARS he can hear the doughnuts calling his name). We actually did a pretty good job at making healthy choices for the both of us.

Well this is a new day and I am determined to make is a good one!! Hope everyone else is doing great!:)

Hi,
Kina-CONGRATS! Great job! I cannot wait to be under 200 again-hopefully it will be soon!
The weather has cooled down a bit this week, today it is only supposed to get up to 78-so I took my son out for a stroller walk, and did about a mile. We both really enjoyed it.
I still plan on doing a bit of biking or something when he goes down for his nap.
My husband is the worst type to have when trying to eat healthier. He eats whatever he wants and stays at 195-which is alright for his height of 6'. I have learned over the past few years just to substitute with similar things. Last night he made steaks on the grill-he had a huge one, and I had a small one for about 250 calories. He had a bunch of potatoes with his, and I had green beans and salad. Even though it was a small steak, I really savored it and had a tad of A1, so I really felt like I was having a no-no.
It is just small things like that-he eats buttered popcorn, I eat light-he eats pudding cups, I eat sugar free Jello ones, etc.
I don't feel like I am missing out on anything this way.
Well, I better go-everyone have a great day!
Aphil-Amy

I got lost!

Would you believe i actually FORGOT that I was posting here? My brain is mush lately!! :(

Anyway, sounds like ya'll are doing pretty well! That's great!

I'm now 15 1/2 weeks pregnant and have so far gained about 12 pounds.. yuck! About 8 of them jumped on at the very beginning and its slowed down since so I hold out hope that my total gain will be within a reasonable amount! 35 pounds total is my goal cuz I think I can get that much back off quickly enough!

My size 10 jeans sit lonely in my drawer.. *laugh* and I've been wearing my old size 14s and now they are getting tight too.. I know I shouldnt be stressed about it but after spending 1 1/2 years taking weight off its hard to watch it coming back even if it is for a good reason!

So, I'm glad to see everyone is keeping up with their diets! I'm going to try to stick around a little more and read posts.. keep me motivated so in 5 1/2 months I can start back on the diet track!!

Christine ~~~ So nice to have you back with us and congratulations on the little bundle to be!!! That is wonderful news!

Dont worry about that weight you are gaining now. You know will have it off once the baby comes. Stick with us will help you :)

Had a good day yesterday. Day 11 of being completely on program with no slip ups at all :cb: I am feeling good about this!

I hope everyone is doing well today and will post soon.

I am off to the dentist  will check back in later.

:) Hi everyone!

Hi Christine!!! I have been wondering how you, and the growing little one are doing! Once the baby is born you'll be filled with renewed energy and determination to keep healthy! And the size 10's won't be lonely any more!

Hi Nancy! Day 11 and going STRONG! Happy dancing bananas to you!!:cb: :cb:

Hi jacklyn! You sound motivated and strong! Good for you!

Hello aphil! Your stroller walk with your son sounded nice. It sure must be difficult to have a spouse who can eat whatever he wants and not gain! But the way you cope sounds sensible.

It was so good to hear from Christine; now how about our past friends? Sprite, Melisa, Kanola, how are you guys? We heard from t-girl a week or so ago; hope she's well also.

Well, I had to come upstairs to the computer because my stomach was growling for something snacky, and I didn't want to "cave" so I had to move away from the kitchen.

Have a nice night and a great tomorrow!!

Hi,
How is everyone doing?
I weighed myself again today, and I have lost another pound-6 now total. When I started up again, I was a very tight size 18-now they are fitting a bit more comfortable-so I am seeing progress.
I did abs and upper body yesterday, as well as a short walk and 10 minutes on the bike. I had to exercise in a few small intervals, because we were pretty busy. Today is buns, thighs, and calves...and I am not loking forward to it. I am much stronger in my upper body and it doesn't burn near as much, and my calves are pretty strong-but man-I have to count through reps in the buns and thighs to keep my mind off the burn so I will make it! :^:
I am hoping to get a nice walk in today with Raiden again, too. Has anyone tried to new Special K bars yet? They have them at Wal-Mart. They are not a meal replacement bar-more like a snack bar or granola bar, but they are really good, and only have 90 calories-most chewy granola bars average 120-so you are saving a few there...the blueberry ones have a blueberry muffin flavor to them, but more crunchy. It was a nice find, and would be a good quick on the go breakfast if you added a yogurt cup or a cup of orange juice.
Let me know how you are all doing!

Its a sunny Friday here,,,and feeling good !!

Aphil~~ You are doing so great with those pounds melting away, you are on a roll!!! :flow2:

I am doing great! I hope the scale will reflect that on Monday!
I havent had any moments of weakness at all. I have been searching all the WW sites and looking at new recipes to try. It helps when you have a variety and not the same old thing, that is when boredom sets in.

So how is the rest of the gang today? I hope you all are having a great Friday!

Well gotta go and get ready to meet a at friend at Subway for lunch. MMMMMM,, veggie sub(no cheese) and baked lays...so good!!

See everyone later...

Hi all,
Snowey-I have some real good cookbooks-some just lower calorie and fat, and one is an older Weight Watchers one-if you or anyone would like, I can put up a recipe here now and then so you all can try something different.
I love Subway, too...I was thinking about going there tonight also for a turkey sub no cheese...they have the best bread there.
I have been making my daily salad a bit more "special". I have been getting the salad with romaine and iceburg lettuce-romaine has more vitamins and antioxidants-and I really like the blend. I have been getting some of the boxed "restaurant style" croutons-there is just a few in the serving size, but they are the big cut real good ones like they have at steak/seafood restaurants...that 30 calories makes it SO much better with all the seasonings.
I also saw a veggie lovers premixed salad in the bags in the produce section I am going to have to try-it had bigger arrot pieces, radishes, and a few other things in it.
I have also decided to get myself a subscription to Fitness magazine sometime this month. I buy one off the rack each month and it has some good stuff in there-and it is half the cost if I have it mailed straight to me-I mean, I buy it anyway, so why not? I know what will come next...Jason will want one to American Iron or Easy Riders or something like that...
Has anyone heard from Willbethin? She used to post here all of the time, then went to Somersizing, then came back, then to Body for Life, then came back, and I haven't heard from her in ages. She was a great gal-but went from program to program a lot, instead of giving one a real good chance and sticking with it. We all tried to motivate her-I hope she is doing alright.
Well, better go-Jason will be home soon.
Take care!

Hello to everyone,

I hope everyone is having a great Saturday. Its a beautiful day here so the dh and I went for a walk and stopped at the park and swung on the swings for a bit....ahh to be a kid again.

Aphil~~ Your posting of recipes sounds great! I made a WW Broccoli/Cauliflower salad to take to dinner at our friends this evening. It sure is a tasty salad. So simple and if you count ww points its only 1 point per cup.

Maybe we can get our resident pastry chef Holly to post some lower fat versions of the sweet stuff. :T

I am in search of a recipe for low fat apple crisp. Any one know of one?

Well weigh in is on Monday, but even with me being 100% OP I am feeling bloated as all get out :( dont know why though. I hope that I wont be disapointed come Monday.

I hope that everyone is doing well with their programs and feeling good. See everyone later....

Hi,
I will try to look in my books and see if I have an apple crisp recipe, or something close to it...
Last night I came down with a HUGE sinus infection...it is really bad today...I made myself do my upper body weight today, just with lighter weights, and I didn't do any walking or biking...I can barely breathe. Hopefully this will not last long-the plus side is that I haven't felt like eating much!
Tomorrow is my husbands birthday dinner at the lake we stay at on the summer weekends. His family will be there-he wanted bratwurst on the grill and german chocolate cake...go figure.
I cut up a ton of watermelon and cantalaupe tonight so I can load up my plate mostly with that, and just have a teeny sliver of cake, and split it with my son-he usually eats off my plate anyway-this way I can have 4 or 5 bites of it and it will only be about 100 calories. I find I do better on occasions like this if I plan to have a small amount of something in advance, and already factor it in my daily calorie allotment-rather than try to stay away from it and cave-and eat a big slab of something fatty.
I always try to bring something healthy and low calorie to family dinners too, a lot of my recipes taste really good, and noone is the wiser.
I weighed in and I have lost another 2 pounds-8 now total. I am getting closer to being under 200 each day now-I can't wait.
Well, it is getting late, and I need to hit the sack-everyone take care, and I will try to get some recipes up here soon for everyone to try-my favorites are the easy ones that do not take a lot of ingredients.

Tada!

Apple Crisp
(makes 2 single servings)
2 c. chopped cooking apples
1T. sugar
2T. brown sugar
3T. old fashioned oats
1T. flour
1/4 t. cinnamon
1/8t. nutmeg
1T. margerine
1t. water
Heat oven to 375*. Spray 2 10oz. custard cups or individual souffle dishes with Pam spray. Mix apples and granulated sugar. Divide between cups. Mix other ingredients except margerine together, then cut in margerine until crumbly. Spoon over apple mixture and bake about 25 minutes until topping is golden and apples are done.
per serving:
260 calories-6 grams fat-4 grams fiber
(I hope this is all the info you need to calculate it into WW points if you are doing that-if you need other info-let me know)
This is good that it only makes 2 servings-it keeps you from having a pan of it around tempting you!:^:

Hi everyone,
Snowey-glad that recipe was what you were looking for-and it doesn't take a lot of ingredients or prep time either!
I will definitely keep putting recipes up here for everyone-I have a lot of them! :D
I am still feeling pretty bad today-I had orange juice and a fat free pudding cup for breakfast, not the most nutritional thing, but I am unwilling as of now to eat anything that involves chewing for fear of suffocation! I was up half of the night unable to breathe freely...hope it is over soon!
Here are some more healthier restaurant choices for you all that I have found-it feels great to be able to eat out and feel like a human now and then!
Wendy's grilled chicken sandwich-300 calories
(it is really good, has lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard on it)
Dairy Queen sugar free fat free bars-they vary in calories, usually around 40, and come in orange creamsicle, rasberry creamsicle, and fudge.
KFC single serving of mashed potatoes and gravy-120 calories
Pizza Hut thin and crispy crust chicken supreme pizza-200 calories a slice-this is great-you can actually eat 2 or 3 pieces at dinner instead of ! slice of some other kind...
I found all of these at the restaurants websites-I printed off the nutrition info pages-they list the fat and fiber also if you need to calculate WW points-I just highlight what selections are healthier and lower calorie as a quick guide.
Well, better go-off to the lake for hubby's birthday dinner!

Hi everyone! I just spent a wonderful 15 minutes reading up on everyone's news! You guys are doing so well!
I managed to do really well over vacation! It was hard sometimes, but we were very active and that helped so much. I planned to get on the scale today, but we came home to an empty frig and went out for pizza last night. I think I'll wait a few days to get on the scale! I like the idea of only weighing in twice a month--I may try that!
DH is off for another week, but I will start getting ready to go back to school this week. My classroom will be filled with the little cherubs before you know it!
Please excuse me for not addressing each one of you personally, but I am so proud of you all for what you've accomplished! Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning everyone!

aphil and Nancy, thanks for keeping the conversations going over the weekend! As I work Sat. and Sundays, I tend to not post then (excuses, excuses). But I have been staying on the plan!

aphil, the crisp recipe sounds great. Also good that it's not a huge amound to make - as we know, it sure is easy to "pick" at what's left in the pan 'til it's gone!:ink:

Nancy, I am wishing you a GREAT weigh-in today! You have been so good and dedicated the past weeks; I am sure you will be pleased!

aphil, congrats on your pounds lost!! You are on a roll and on the way!

hi tryin'hard! So glad you had a good time on vacation. Boy, back to school already! The summer just flies. My son's first day is Aug. 26, which he is none too happy about. But that's the way it always is; he'll get "into it" once he sees his friends.

Kina, kewi, Christine, how are you ladies doing? I hope all are happy and doing great!:cb:

Well, I have to share this, though I don't want to be dramatic, but I dropped my motorcycle yesterday (from a stopped position); I only lightly bruised my left side, and cracked a taillight and twisted a mirror; BUT there is actually a POSITIVE side to this; and that is I was able to pick it up by myself!!!
I would have liked some help, but can you believe two cars drove right by without even slowing or asking "hey, lady, you want a hand?"!! It took 3 tries, and I was bellowing like a sumo wrestler (and cursing up a storm, my o my:o ) but I picked up my 456 pound machine! And I am not hurting anywhere this morning, so I didn't strain any muscles. Woo-hoo for upper body strength!:D

I was trying to find the driveway of a friend, so I was right nearby where he lives and carefully rode there, then got the "after reaction" trembles. But my friend (who also rides) actually congratulated me (trying to make me feel better!) and he was able to temporarily fix my mirror. After a drink of water and a rest in the shade, he then said "you know, you can still ride as well as you did before this happened" to get me 'back in the saddle'. So I suited up, and we had a nice ride (with no other drama).

I think I'm down another 2 pounds, which puts me in the mystical 140's. I can't see any difference in my legs, though my thighs must be smaller 'cause of the smaller sized jeans.

Well, I have today and tomorrow off; today is chores, with laundry (I do a week's worth at the laundromat; 7 loads or so washed, dried and folded in less than 2 hours) picking up around home, cleaning off my desk, vaccuming, grocery shopping...then hopefully time for kayaking in the late afternoon, as it's supposed to be a warm and humid day.

Wishing everyone a GREAT day!!!

Your friend, Holly

Hi,
I go ton the scale and am down 2 more pounds! I do not know what is happening...but I am sure it will not ge going this quick for long! My weight loss is now at 10 pounds!
Don't worry ladies...I eat probably more calories than most of you-so I am not starving myself-I eat anywhere from 1200-1800 depending on my hunger for the day-usually around 1600. I stay within certain calorie guidelines, but this way I can use my body's hunger as a cue of when to eat.
My husband's dinner was alright-and I stayed with my few bites of cake, because I couldn't taste a darn thing-only the textures of food.
Vermont Mom-I know all about laying down bikes...those of you who aren't around them, they are a lot heavier than they look. My husband's Sportster is an old Ironhead one-so it is SO heavy....and my stepdad (the one who bodybuilds) is a huge guy, and he laid down his big Harley Road King one day-and had to have his son help him get it back up-it is well over 1000 pounds decked out. I am impressed you got it up by yourself-and glad you aren't hurt! I can also sympathise with noone stopping to help you-especially being a woman! My husbandstopped one day out inthe middle of nowhere with his riding buddy, and he was changing his spark plugs, and a group of "lady" riders came up out of the blue and asked if he needed help, and he said no. When they were tkaing off, his single friend said "What did you just do!!!!!"
Glad everyone is doing great-woohoo!!!
If anyone has a certain recipe they would like in a lower calorie or fat version, let me know and I will find it!

I am just making a quick stop to let you all know I am still here. Just limited on time. Next week will be much worse. I plan to start working at the college during the day. Then continue working at night. I think I can manage. I hope.

Well I have great news! I am in the 90's of my scale!:cb: And it is such an exciting feeling but also a very scary thought to eat anything in high fat content...for fear that I may jump the scale back into the 200's:fr: . So I notice I am analyzing everything I eat. Whereas before I would eat my favorites but in moderation and yet pat myself on the back if I hadn't over eaten or gone for 2nd servings or had water instead of soda. But I have noticed I don't allow those instances very much anymore. I fight with myself to not give in to the fattening meals I sometimes crave. Then if I cave I feel awful. Then my old way of thinking of patting myself on the back for not getting 2nds or something to that affect comes crawling back in and then I don't feel so bad that I had given in to the cravings.

I was able to report a 4 lb loss from Saturday 3rd to Saturday 10th. I was really unbelieving of my scale when it read 197.5  . But nevertheless very happy to see all the efforts paying off. My goal is to be at 190 by September 1. I am crossing my fingers that I will see my goal at that time if not before.

I must go and get a few more ZZZZZ's before the kids get home from school and I have to go to work. But before I go please becareful Vermontmom . I am glad to hear you are okay. Aphil way to go. Slow and steady is a great way to lose it forever. Nancy I am living proof that effort does pay off. Just keep focused and never give up. You will see the loss, I'm sure of it!Tryinhard welcome back. Thumbs up to you for making good choices.
Sorry this was a long post. Many smiles to all of you.

I still feel motivated and positive and gung ho!!! I figured if I average two pounds a week. I can have 42 pounds off before Christmas. I am still hoping for a week that may show a 3 or 4 pound loss but Ill be happy as long as I lose every week. Next week will be that TOM and I am concerned about that , but will make sure I keep a check on the salt intake. Now that I am back into the 190's I am looking forward to being in the 180's soon.
By the way the DH lost 3.5 pounds this week!! I am proud of him for doing this with me. He only wants to lose about another 9 pounds. He also likes the new WW recipes I have been making. The Cabbage -Rice Casserole was a big hit with him.
When I showed him the apple crisp recipe from Aphil...he said are you going to make that today???

Hi!
Kina-don't get in a frenzy now tht you are under 200-with all of the doubt and analyzing everything you are doing and eating...just keep doing what you are doing and you will be fine! I know it is hard not to be fearful of gaining it back, but as long a you keep exercising and staying within your calorie/points range-you will be fine! ;)
Snowey-when it is that TOM for me-I always gain a pound or two right before-ALWAYS-so if you do, and you are still eating and doing everything right-do not get upset with the scale! I do not even weight myself when that week is coming up-I wait until it is over!:p
I am glad you and your husband are getting into the new recipe thing-and that he was into he new crisp recipe I gave out! That really helps when your spouse will eat healthier with you!
I went for walk with both of the kids in the stroller today-I have a double one-and boy, it got pretty warm and I was sweating everywhere when we got back home!
Well, here is another recipe:
SHRIMP KABOBS AND RICE
8 large raw shrimp
1/2 red onion, cut into 8 pieces
1/2 green pepper-cut into 8 pieces
8 cherry tomatoes
8 small whole mushrooms
2 c. hot cooked rice
marinade:
2T. soy sauce

Woo Hoo!! Big congrats to Nancy!! and to Kina for the 90's!!! And for 10 pounds off for aphil!!!!

aphil, that recipe sounds great. It's something that my family would like - I'll be trying that!

Am very close to buying a motorcycle for husband - he test-drove one this evening, and I followed on my bike - first time in our 22 years of marriage that we rode separately but as a team! It was a blast.

Thanks, Nancy, I am a little sore today (and alot more bruises have appeared :fr: but I am a tough chick and will learn from my mistake!!

Husband has said that he thinks I am getting skinny - OMG!!! at 5'7" and 148 I'm definitely not skinny...but I am so happy at feeling fit and good. And keep unzipping the size 8 jeans to look at the tag!:D

Yes, where are our unheard-from-friends? We miss you!!!:(

Sweet dreams to the lighter ladies that we are!!!

Hi everyone! COngrats to all of you "Losers"!!! Man--two pounds here, two pounds there--do you ever wonder where it all goes (have you seen a pic of my sisterinlaw lately??? Haha!)
Now, this is probably not the most welcomed advice, but I tried it last month to overcome my TOM moodiness, weight gain and constant hunger, and I have to say, it worked! I doubled my exercise for the whole week before. I felt so much better because I felt like I was beating myself at the whole game. I'm going to do it again this month, hopefully with the same results.
Holly--how are you feeling today? You are so amazing! I am so proud of you in your eights!!! Have you been doing a lot of clothes shopping? SOmetimes it's hard to resist buying something when it's a small size! WHen we were on vacation, I saw this cute little tank top and the store only had it in a small. I figured it would never fit, but tried it on yesterday. Well ladies, I wore it yesterday!!! I never thought I'd be a small! It's so much fun!
Aphil--thanks for the recipe--that looks yummy!
Nancy--you are so back in the zone! You are so motivated and motivating! Congrats to you and hubby for making all of your changes together!
Well, I hope you all have a super day! Keep it up!

Vermont Mom-Honey, you need to change your mindset a bit-if you are a size 10 or under, YOU ARE SKINNY!!!!! Jennifer Lopez wears a size 8, Drew Barrymore wears an 8-10, Kate Winslet wears a 10-we want to look good like them, not be scrawny sticks like Calista Flockhart-EEWWW!!!!

Hello all.

I am feeling a bit sluggish..think the dreaded TOM is approaching fast. I would rather take a sharp stick in the eye then have to deal with this every month

Still 100% completely on track. Now if I could just be on track 100% with exercise...UGH!!!

Tryinhard' ~~~ Dont you feel just wonderful to be in a size small???? Way to go !!!! :dancer:

Have a great evening friends!

Hi all!:)

Nancy, you made me gasp with the "sharp stick" reference - yikes! Do you do any creative writing? You are so descriptive!

I'm in the middle of TOM, but have only had passive cravings for salty stuff. Been able to resist except to have some peanut buttery crackers, which REALLY tasted good. :p

aphil, you're right - I do have a rather distorted sense of how I look. I keep seeing how I've been, not as I am now. Though I did catch sight of myself in a storefront window today, and said outloud, "okay, I have slimmed down pretty well". It'll take time I guess. It sure was a surprise to learn of the superstar ladies' sizes!

tryin'hard, wow, a size small tank! You are there, girl! Or rather, have been there for a while!

I haven't done any major clothes shopping yet - I'm definitely a second-hand store shopper, and usually it's just for jeans and T-shirts - except for the 3 pairs of 8's I bought new last week :D

I also admired tryin'hard's strategy of doubling up on exercise the week before TOM - sounds excellent. I will try that next time.

Kina, how are you doing? Your schedule sounds rough! I hope you get enough rest.

Have a nice evening and a great tomorrow!

Thanks for asking Holly. Things are getting rough. We were told to not make plans for this weekend. We will be working Saturday and Sunday as well. I can't complain the check will be very interesting. As it turns out my husband is also going to work the night shift the rest of the week as well. So our kids will not be seeing mom and dad for a while atleast for this week. Not something I like but we all make small sacrifices. Luckily my evening job is temporary and ends as soon as all the cotton has been tested. I think I can manage. And thank goodness for my mom and dad. I have certainly made an impact in their free time. They are used to going out to the movies every evening. I feel really bad but they insist on us not worrying. I guess they know we aren't out there having a good ol' time; we are working and trying to improve finances. I wish I could say thank you enough times to show my gratitude but it will never be enough. DH and I decided we would buy them movie bucks so they won't have to pay out of their own pockets. It is the least we can do they won't take money from us.

I am at a stand still of 197.5 on the scale. Just as I had expected but who knows what will happen the weekend isn't here yet. And my evening job sure gives me a great workout every night.

This weekend is going to be a miracle in the making DH is going to have to buy the groceries. UH OH. I think I better make the time for that one otherwise the kids will be too happy to see all the junk food. LOL

I have to go and get some shut eye. take care and talk later.

Hi,
Well ladies...I am embarking on another birthday party for a child in a month...I swore this time I wouldn't stress myself out and make it such a big deal...the last one we had a rubber ducky floating in a sea of blue punch, a teeny duck swimming on a sea of blue iced cake, and a huge rubber duck pinata in the doorway.
Well, my daughter decided she wanted Disney Princess...and when I saw the cute plate and napkin design-I envisioned the staircase and fireplace mantle swooped in pastel tulle of pink, lavender, yellow, and blue, and my daughter dressed in baby blue satins like Cinderella-my husband is going to kill me. He says I am not happy without a project-which is true.
If I am not making a costume, planning an event-or crafting something I feel useless...I thrive on stress!:dizzy:
Needless to say-I have the Cinderella costume pattern, and I will be looking for suitable fabrics tomorrow-hee hee hee...
I am holding at 201-but I am not going to weigh in for a while-I am on birth control pills to straighten out my cycle-and I had to recently skip the "blank/reminder/TOM"pills-and start a new cycleof active ones-so I am beginning to bloat-and I am sure it will be like that for a couple weeks-no sense disappointing myself when I know what the problem is if I gain a pound!
Well, congrats on everyone doing well-we are all doing great! Let's everyone work on our exercise-and think about how great we will look at the holidays this year to the people who haven't seen us inch down the scale slowly-it isn't near as noticable to those who see us every day, ya know!

Hi every body! Have you ever started to talk to your friends about this forum and they have no idea who you're talking about??? I feel like everyone should know you guys!
Aphil, I was inspired by your shrimp recipe and made a good one last night. Just browned garlic in about a teaspoon of olive oil and sauteed the shrimp with salt and pepper. Right before it was done, I tossed in a whole lot of cut of tomatoes from the garden and a handful of basil. I served it over pasta and it comes out to less than 300 calories for the whole bowl! (1 cup of pasta). It's my new favorite!
I am starting to stress about the new job I am taking and how it is going to affect my life. I have decided that I may need to ask my dh for some help and even have him make dinner once in a while. I am very controlling when it comes to the kitchen, so this is going to be a tough one. I know I can count on all of you for support!
Yesterday, I was really stressing about the job and I was constantly munching--I never realized how much I was bothered by stress that way. I would love to tell you that I didn't give into it--let's just say the movie popcorn was yummy!
Well, here's to a better day today! HOpe you all have a good one!

Hey everyone!! I haven't posted lately but I've been reading and everyone is doing such a great job!! I have been able to stay on track due to the fact that I am so busy right now. It's been helping me to stay out of the kitchen! I just need to get my butt out there and walk...notice how my mileage isn't changing???? Gotta work on that.

tryin'hard~ I completely know what you are talking about with the eating out of stress thing. The other day, something happened to stress me out(cant remember what now...shows you how important is was)anyways..something happened and I was at home alone. I went from not even being hungry to suddenly craving the chocolate chip cookie dough in the frig. Of course the cookie dough is no longer present in the house...I was lucky I didn't devour the wrapper...probably wouldn't have had as many calories though

Anyways, I do realize that it is a trend with me (eating out of stress), hopefully I can substitute it for exercise eventually. Everyone seems to be doing well! Talk to you guys later!

Hey girls,

A busy day here for me.. was up early and cleaned and went grocery shopping, picked up a few dvd's to watch this evening. FIL is coming for dinner soon. He wont even know that the Cranberry Chicken that I am making is WW recipe!!

Kina ~~ Hang in there,, your scale will move for you real quick. Dont get discouraged you are doing so well!

Trying Hard~~Hope your stress will ease up soon. And hey it wont hurt the hubby to do some kitchen duties. I felt that way with mine at first. But I kind of like the break when he does things. We just have to get over the old way of thinking " that the woman belongs in the kitchen"

Aphil~~ You are one busy woman, sewing costumes and planning b-day parties. Such energy you have!!

Jacklyn~~ Good to hear from you and hope your stress eases up also. That cookie dough can really be a temptation for me too!!

Holly~~ Hope you are having a great day !!

Gotta run,, have to start steaming the veggies for dinner... have a great evening , see everyone later.

Made another great dinner tonight--the souvlaki chicken salad from the June Cooking Light magazine. Very refreshing in the 95 degree weather we're having!
Thanks for reminding me about the carrots, Aphil. I just may start hopping soon!

 Good evening all!

Kina - gosh, a rough weekend coming up for you! Thank goodness you have your parents to watch the kids. I'm sure they are happy to do it for you; but the tickets sound like a great way to thank them. Yes, sometimes in life we've got to make the sacrifices to try to get ahead.

tryin'hard - I'm sorry to hear of the stress you're suffering due to the new position. Definitely ask for help from family! Your DH might do a chore differently than you would, but as long as YOU don't have to do it, that's something. Can the kids be delegated to maybe do something that ordinarily you would have? Anything to help relieve you.

aphil - you party planner! Wow! My kids are lucky if my husband and I get our act together for a small birthday party! Your kids will have such great memories of the fantastic parties their mom did for them!

Jacklyn - hooray for being so busy with the at-home business! I'm sure you'll get your mileage pumped up again when you can.

Nancy - yum, cranberry chicken sounds so good! And right, NEVER let folks know that it's a lower-fat, better-for-them meal. :D You are doing so well with the WW program on your own - heck, you should head a group in your area!

Is the TOM monster not being too terrible?

Ladies, we bought my husband a motorcycle today (used) so now we can ride together for the first time in our 23 years of marriage! It is such a blast to be able to do it together!

Our younger son went to a friend's house for a sleep-over, so we decided to suit up and ride to Montpelier (our capital, about 23 miles away) for dinner. It was great! I "saved" calories all day so I splurged on dinner - first a glass of white wine, then sea bass with Tuscan couscous, red and yellow beets, and fantastic chewy bread with baked garlic cloves smeared on it...oh boy!!!!!!!!!! But no dessert - I needed to be alert for the ride home, and not logey/sleepy:lol:

This is where I am loving to be - I am no longer self-conscious about being anywhere; confident to talk to people I know or don't know; and it all comes from losing the excess weight that was dragging me down. I know I am the same person inside that I was before; but now can express myself so much more freely because I have that confidence. I am feeling so good!:) :) :)

On that UPLIFTING note - have a great night and tomorrow the same!!

Your friend, Holly

Nancy - thanks for the note about the site being down - did I read it right that it's from midnight Friday til Monday?

hey where is everybody at ??????????

I was gone all day , shopping with a friend. The hubby is out on the ocean (hopefully catching some halibut) but know for sure he will be bringing lots of crab home.. Now to find a WW recipe for crab cakes !!! Still going strong with being OP 100% but am starting to feel the effects of the approaching TOM. I hope I can remain strong and not give into any cravings for chocalate!!!

Dinner last night was a hit , that cranberry chciken was great. I will be sure to make that one again...and so simple to make.

6 boneless skinless chicken breasts
Marinade:
8 oz of Fat Free Catalina dressing
1 envelope of Lipton Onion Soup mix
I can Whole Cranberry sauce

Mix all the ingredients together and marinate chicken for a few hours. Remove from marinate and bake in oven for 45 minutes , use rest of marinate to baste breasts. I dont know the calories but on WW points it is only 6 points(so I figure that is about 300 calories) We had baked potato(3 points) and steamed Cauliflower and Broccoli (0 points)..so the whole meal was only 9 points and I am allowed 27 points a day. It doesnt get any easier then this :) Am having fun with these new recipes.

Holly ~~ When reading your post about loving where you are in life , it made me smile and I thought that even though we have never met in person I am just so proud of you and happy for you with all you have acheived these past few months. Keep it up girlfriend!!!!

To the rest of the gang....I hope you are all doing fantastic today and remember to keep on smiling!!!!

How very odd.. I was getting no notifications in email that people were posting here.. I was wondering why nobody posted in such a long time .. then I got one today saying Snowey posted and when i get here there are a couple pages of stuff I hadn't read yet!

Has anyone seen the 'peanut butter, jelly' site with that little dancing banana guy? :cb: I saw it about a month ago and when I got here and saw that guy in a the posts I had to laugh.. I can post the website later if anyone hasn't seen it.. I have to find it first though...

So, in the past week my weight seems to have jumped 2 more pounds.. yuck.. I was really hoping to keep it at 1lb/week max!
I got me a pregnancy pilates book from the library.. Im in the middle of reading it.. hoping I can get into some sort of workout .. I feel so lazy! I also need to start walking on that poor, neglected treadmill again... I was good and got salads and fruit for this week, but unfortunately I also made brownies today.. I'm so bad! Even though I logically know this is not a free pass to eat whatever I want, I don't seem to be able to keep the control I was before! (not that I was in complete control even then.. )

Anyway, just thought I'd check in.. don't think I'll be able to catch up on all the posts today but tomorrow I'll go back and read them.. Helps to keep me in that mindset!!

:) Hi everyone!

Nancy, thank you! It's such a nice feeling when someone is proud of you! You are doing awesomely, also. Like you said, how much easier can it get when you can make yummy food that is well-allowed in your plan.

Hi Christine! I don't know about the peanut butter/jelly deal, but the dancing banana guy is so funny. How are you feeling? I commend you for reading about pilates during pregnancy. I remember really not being able to control what I wanted to eat during pregnancy, feeling that "ticket to overeat". And boy, did I pack it on!:o

This afternoon I had a "baking marathon" with my fire department auxiliary members at the fire station - we made over 300 pieces of pastries to donate at a block party, to raise funds for our historic town hall restoration. Whew! Too bad we did it on an almost 90 degree day! hot! I didn't eat much during the day, so I got to have two pieces of pizza for dinner and two of the yummy cookies we made. :T

Well, time to go to bed! have a nice night!

Hi all!
yesterday was really busy-my stepmother and I took the kids to Chucky Cheese....it was a madhouse. Then-as you all know, I am beginning a new costume for my daughter for her birthday next month-she so innocently being so proud of the things I have made for her-told everyone she saw about the dress I was making for her-and she started adding-"She can make me glass slippers, too!" :o
I told her I wasn't sure I could do that, and we would have to find her some white ones to wear, and she said-"Mom, you can do it!"
I didn't really know what to tell her. I was out shopping, and just happened to stumble upon a pair of tiny clear "jelly" shoes-they were clear with teeny glitter sparkles, and were shaped like a little girls dress shoe, with a small clear heel! I picked them up, and said to myself-"Please be her size, and don't be $30!" over and over again...they WERE her size, and only $12! I could not beleive it. You should have seen her face when she saw them-right onto the floor, sneakers coming off-like only a 3 year old would do in the middle of the store!
I did really well as far as eating the past two days-I have eaten a lot of fresh fruit, and chicken-and I am naturally a healthy cereal lover-Frosted Mini Wheats is my favorite-my husband is more of a Fruity Pebbles fan-he calls mine "sticks and twigs"!
I am feeling the bloat really bad, so I have stayed away from the scale-I wish my pills would straighten me out soon!
I walked a lot yesterday-but missed my weight training, so I have to make it up today and do full body, and get abck on my schedule with it on Monday-for those of you that do not weight train-you have to wait 48 hours between working out of a body part for maximum result-doing it every day overworks the development, and you will not get as good results-so I do it M-F, alternating upper body and abs one day, then lower body the next-this goes for any kind of resistance training-leg lifts, weights, Bowflex...
I usually do a small amount of cardio every day, and more on the weeekends when I do not do resistance.
I am looking for a real good cookie recipe to put up here for everyone, since Vermont Mom talked about it and now we are going to all want them! ha ha ha
Well, better go-you ladies are all doing great! Keep it up!

Things here are fine .. I am still 100% OP!!!!!!!

I seen my aggravating SIL today and she is still as aggravating as ever. Her weight loss is real noticable and I told her how great she was looking and she had to reply with a sarcastic answer "Of course I am " She again makes mention of how her plan is the only way to go (Protein Power) She just needs to stay away from me..

Well anyway I hope everyone is doing great and are planning to have a wonderful weekend. Will miss everyone while the site is down.... stay strong girls:strong:

:) Hello! I'm here!

Hi everyone!

Again, working both Saturdays and Sundays puts me behind in keeping up with posting. Sorry!

Nancy, bleh bleh bleh to the nasty SIL!!! What is her problem?!? I certainly hope you don't have to see her very often. Is she that jerky to everyone?

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you, Nancy! Hope your weigh-in makes you smile and say "woohoo!"

aphil, how wonderful that you found "glass slippers" for you daughter's costume! What a mom you are!

Hope I didn't get anyone offtrack by mentioning cookies...:o I've got to sit at a booth tomorrow and sell all those darn cookies! I'm hoping for nice weather.

Thanks for the dancing banana link, Christine! I will check him out.

We went to a cookout today, and I had way too much food, but I think it's okay because I ate very lightly before; and certainly don't eat that much very often. But it was potcluck picnic food, which sure is good.

My two days off are going to be busy - oil change and turn signal replacement for my cycle tomorrow at 9:00 22 miles away; laundry; maybe clean the bathroom (ugh) then volunteer at the fundraiser from about 4:00 pm to 8-9:00 pm.m Then I don't know what on Tuesday, but I'm sure it will be busy.

I'm afraid I have ditched my exercise for the past FOUR days - it has just been too humid and warm! But I've got no excuse at least for the next two days - I'll have to do the cold shower in swimsuit routine, to make it through a half-hour of exercise.

Take care! Have a nice night!

Hi everyone! Hope ya'll had a great weekend!
I weighed in, and I am still at 201-same as last week. I am not discouraged at all-because my body has always lost weight this way-I lose a few pounds fast-then it is like my body takes a week or two to adjust to that weight, then I lose a few more. I have these "mini-plateaus" for every few pounds lost-it evens out, since I lost the first 10 pounds in only 3 week's time.
Vermont Mom-I am with you-I have slacked off the exercise this weekend-I REALLY need to get with it today. I find that besides the obvious body benefits-exercise really puts me in a better mood the rest of the day when I do it. I am usually sort of a "moody" person, and it really brings my spirits up-all those endorphins flowing. It also prevents me from having the 2:00 wanting-to-take-a-nap-sluggishness I get a lot.
For you ladies that like taco salad...If you get an even 1 pound of ground beef-like measured in the plastic sausage type tubes at Kroger or Aldi's-or 1 even pound in regular foam packages-and you make it with a packet of taco seasoning-measure out 1/4 of that mixture as your serving size-it is about 250 calories. Add 20 crunched up Baked Tostitos-110 calories, and top with a cup of shredded lettuce and 2 tablespoons of salsa for another 20 calories-380 calories total! I crunch it all up in a big bowl and let my husband have the greasy shells and cheese to himself!
You can put in more lettuce if you like for about 5 calories a cup. Your family can add on the sour cream or cheese to theirs, and you can eat what they are eating-so it works out for everyone. I don't eat hamburger a lot-but sometimes you just gotta have it...
Everyone have a good day-I bette go exercise while I am thinking of it!

Nancy-Way to go on the 1.5 lb loss [:cp: ] Aphil- that taco salad sounds yummy[:) ] I'll have to try it sometime. Just an idea, but you could also substitute ground turkey for the ground beef. I think it tastes just about the same and is a little bit healthier. Well I'm happy to report a 1 lb loss this week. So that's a total of 4 so far. Yea [ ] I still have a long ways to go but I'm setting mini goals along the way. I hope to lose another 4 lbs by Sept 1 and then another 7 by Oct 1. I have a drs appt that day and am hoping to be 260 lbs. That's about 20+ lbs less than what I weighed last year when I went. So I need all the support I can get. This site has been really good for me. It's nice to be able to talk to people who know what you are going through. Talk to you all later [ ]

You could substitute it with ground turkey-but you need to watch the labels-some kinds are mostly ground dark meat-which is pretty much as fatty as the hamburger-so if that is all your store has, then you might as well have the beef. Some of the leaner ones are white and dark turkey mixed.

Nancy, how was the dentist? Hopefully not too bad! And congrats to you on being down, also!!

aphil, the taco salad sounds so good. That's the way to have family meals - ours modified a bit, but still good, and the rest of the family has it their way.

It was cooler this morning, so I did my usual 1/2 hour exercise routine. Yes, I love the feeling of getting it done early so I know it's been done for the day - and I won't turn down any of those endorphins, either!

Wow! So much catching up to do and not enough time in a day. Well I heard someone had a dentist appt., and someone dropped some quick pounds and sitting there for now, and another person has an aggravatiing SIL that needs a twinkie stuffed down her throat but is still focused on her own plan regardless, and then a couple that need to get refocused on their exercise. OH let us not forget the one that had to sit at a booth within reach of home baked cookies...What's wrong with you! Just kidding. wow I think I touched on everyones life just about. If I didn't mention you it is not that your life is less exciting its just I don't have enough time in my day to even take a breath.

I started my day job and I have only had about 3 hours of sleep. I just got off from my evening job and boy I am EXHAUSTED. I basically worked from 11 am to 11:30 pm with a few breaks in between it all. But I think I will be okay tomorrow. Can't wait til school starts in September. Argh!

I think I better run and get some sleep before I start to worry about all my struggles and then I end up tossing and turning all night long like last night. Heres wishing you many smiles full of love throughout your day.

Bye. Kina

Hi everyone!
How is everyone doing?
Another product note-most lite pancake syrups are listed as 100 calories for a 1/4 cup serving. If you are eating a small portion-2 pancakes or 1 waffle-switching that to 1/8 cup and 50 calories is plenty-I know picking up the bottle seemed like a lot glancing and seeing 100 calories just for syrup-I guess that IS a serving size if we eat like we all used to! ha ha ha
Went for a 30 minute walk last night with the kids-I put Raiden in the stroller, and let Jasmine walk with me this time-I stayed close to home and kept asking her if she was tired yet-she walked with me 3 full rounds of our cul-de-sac neighborhood and around another block next to our street! She kept those little legs going, and really seemed to enjoy it-looks like I have a little walking buddy now! I guess I never thought she could walk that far!
If it is nice we will do it again tonight-and when they have naps after lunch I am going to do my resistance training.
Have a good day everyone!
CHICKEN FAJITAS IN PITAS
6 chicken breast halves-boneless, skinless-cut into strips
1T. canola oil
Paprika
2 whole pitas, cut into halves
4T. salsa
4T. fat free sour cream
Heat oil in skillet, add chicken, sprinkle with paprika, and saute until done. Remove from heat and divide into the pita pockets. Top each with a tablespoon each of salsa and sour cream.
4 servings
each-340 calories, 9 grams fat, (fiber content depends on pitas used)
This can easily be reduced in half to feed only two people.

School starts a week from tomorrow. I am trying to get super organized. I always tell my students that I make New Year's resolutions in September!
Thanks for the recipes, Aphil--maybe you could do a week's worth of menu planning for us!!
Hope you're all having a super day. TIme to get back to cleaning!

Hello everyone! Looks like everyone is doing a good job staying on track. I have started something a little different. I went out and bought the Fat Flush plan to see what that was about. Seems interesting and ones that post here about it seem to have some success. I know its not the "old fashioned way" but maybe something like this can help jumpstart my program again.

I had a little scare this morning. Got up to do my walk (at 6:00am in the dark) and heard this barking in the distance. All of a sudden the dog was up on me!! It was in the woods growling at me and since I couldn't see it, I high tailed it back to the house. I need all of my limbs, ya know. I got about half a mile in so I'm going to try to hit it again tonight.

I have been so busy lately and sooooo tired but I'm trying to stay motivated and positive. Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi everyone,,

Jacklyn ~~~ watch out for those dogs!!! You need to carry something that you can defend your self with in case that happens again. Let us know what the Fat Flush is all about .

Kina~~You are a busy woman, how long will you be working two jobs? You are going to wear yourself out !

Aphil~~You are the Julia Child of our group., Thanks for the recipes!!

Tryinhard~~ I read somewhere once that you can actually burn more calories at that TOM so with you being busy cleaning house you are doing just that!!

Week # 3 completed on WW and I have been 100 percent :cb:
I weighed yesterday morning and lost 1.5 pound and then yesterday afternoon the TOM decided to rear its ugly head
So I am hoping next weeks weigh in will be really good!!!!
My goal is to average 2 pounds a week. That would be 42 pounds by Christmas if I can do it.

Bruce went out fishing on the ocean yesterday with his friend. So that meant fresh crab. I cooked them and removed all the crab meat and refrigerated it. Tonight I am trying the Maryland Crabcake recipe from WW. I hope it is as good as it sounds.
It really is fun experimenting with new recipes.

The dentist visit went good yesterday. 3 needles in the gums and my mouth did not thaw out until 2 30 in the afternoon. Can you imagine how funny it is to put lipstick on your lips and not be able to feel yourself doing it? I thought it was going to end up all the way up to my eyebrows.

Well gotta run, I hope everyone has a great day and keep on smiling!!! :)

Nancy-- I was laughing out loud thinking of you putting lipstick on--it's a good thing you didn't go to the eye doctor and get your eyes dilated, too!!!
COngrats on your 1.5 pounds! Can't you just imagine what 1.5 pounds of butter looks like and know that's disappeared from your body! Good for you!!!
THanks for the TOM info. I certainly feel like I'm burning more calories running around this classroom throwing stuff away and organizing what's left!
Hope everyone is having a super day! Read youin the morning!

jacklyn-is the Fat Flush plan the one where you are eating foods so low in calories that your body burns most of them digesting the food? If that is the plan I am thinking of-it is pretty low in protein and calcium-and while I do not agree with high protein/low carb diets at all-not having near enough protein will cause muscle loss as well as the benefit of keeping your blood sugar levels steady. If you are eating enough servings of fruits and vegetables in your diet-you will be getting some of this effect anyway-but you really do need to eat a few "heavier" sitting foods like lean meats to leave you feeling satieted-especially if you work out a lot.
(This is the reason bodybuilders take protein supplements along with their regular meals.)
You can also burn a few extra calories doing a more well balanced eating plan by putting ice in your water tht you drink every day-it slightly lowers your body temperature, and your body burns a few to get it back up to normal...
If this is not the plan you are learning about-let me know, but I thought that is what is was called. :^:
The recipes I have been putting up here are ones I have that are pretty easy to prepare, and that serve a smaller amout of people. (I hate to get a recipe that calls for rice paper, some strange imported herb, and a utensil that noone but Martha Stewart has in their kitchen! )
I am trying to stick with easier ones-you are all more likely to try them that way... I have a great pumpkin pie one I need to get up here for everyone to write down and use this fall...your families will NEVER know.:D
Have a good day everyone!

:) Hello all!

jacklyn, scary about the dog growling at you from the woods! Those toned legs did their work in getting you home safely!:)

Kina, you poor thing! Three hours' sleep is just not enough. How long do you need to do that schedule? Please be careful; I once fell asleep driving home when I was working night shift and it is so scary.

aphil, another great supper idea from you! Thanks so much. That's great that your little daughter kept up for the walk! What a trouper. How's her party-planning coming?

tryin'hard - wow, it's back to school already for you! Was it 7th graders that you teach? That's the grade my younger son is entering.

You had asked me about a week ago or so if I had gone "clothes crazy" shopping yet - well, I did today. I mean not too overboard, 'cause I actually like to do thrift shops; but I got a pair of the tightest black pants in the universe; they're like a stretchy nylon, hip-huggers with flared legs and a black studded belt; I feel like trash wearing them but LOVE it! My husband likes them too ;) I simply had to buy them just because of the size - 7/8 in the "no excuses" brand. Now I have to find the perfect occasion to wear them - maybe some trashy ladies' cotillion...

Nancy, how was the dentist, and his evil assistant, Nurse Mengele? I hope it wasn't too bad!

Well, being around those darned cookies all afternoon yesterday was a trial - and I had to bring the leftovers home to put in my big freezer, but all of them didn't make it into the freezer...:o well, the damage isn't too bad. Much less than it would have been 6 months ago.

Have a great evening and a wonderful Wednesday!!

Your friend, Holly with the trashy black pants:D

well, after posting this about 5 other new posts appeared; so now I know how Nancy's dentist appointment went! Numb lips would definitely be difficult to apply lipstick to!

Hi Everybody. Well I got enough sleep the other day that Tuesday seemed to go without a hitch until I got so sick to my stomach. I don't think it was nerves or the fact that my life schedules has been uprooted. I think it was those nasty tamales I just had to have. I should have learned after the first time eating that they had made me sick.

But that day when i had only had 3 hours of sleep was because I had tossed and turned the whole night before. But I was so tired the night after that I didn't have a problem falling to sleep. So Tuesday went a whole lot smoother. But I came home sick Tuesday night. I promise to never eat those tamales from that place ever again. Yuck.

Jacklyn~~~you must be careful. Take some pepper spray or a stick with you next time. Pepper spray is much smaller to handle on a walk or jog. Something to think about.

Aphil~~~once I have more time I plan to try those recipes you post. They make my stomach grumble for food when I hear about them. Thank you. I look forward to trying them. Have you tried any of them?

Tryinhard~~~I didn't ever realize that you are a teacher. Teachers are Angels without wings...Truly. Thanks. I say thanks because there aren't many of you and the few that are out there don't often get the recognition that they very much deserve.

Vermontmom~~~oooh those jeans sound "Groovy Baby" I don't think I would ever dare...well maybe after shedding another 60 lbs maybe. Well thumbs up to you girl! That is awesome that you are at a place where you seem to be very comfortable in your skin. Great!

Jacklyn~~~Fat flush? I am very interested in how that works out for you. Don't leave anything out.

Nancy~~~WooHoo way to go. You are very determined woman and I guess that is the kind of focus we all need in order to get that scale to move. You are doing awesome and I think if you keep it up you will pass me in a day or two. Wow. That is great. Keep up the great work. Keep us posted on your weight loss.

I am going to cut it off here. But I send a big hello to everyone here and everyone that may be lost in the transition of the change of servers. Take care and hope to hear all the success stories and exciting stories of your new day, again. Bye.

Hello everyone!

The Fat Flush Plan is a book I picked up the other day and I haven't finished reading it yet but I'll try to explain it the best I can...as of now. There is also another thread under diet plans with others way more knowledgeable about it than I am, so you may want to check that out as well.

Basically the general idea of the plan is to cleanse the liver and the lymph nodes. The author makes a pretty good arguement that the bile made from the liver and stored in the gallbladder (???I believe...I dont have the book in front of me now so forgive me if I got that confused, I'll check my facts later tonight after I get off work)anyways..the bile is key in breaking up fat. She argues that if the liver is not functioning properly then it is harder to loose weight because it is unable to break up the fat efficiently. So this is a pretty clean way of eating. No soft drinks, no salt, no artificial sweetener except for something called Stevia Plus which I have not been able to find anywhere. You are supposed to drink a certain amount of diluted cranberry juice each day to help with the cleansing process. Eating is the following:
Up to 2 eggs per day, 8 oz. of lean meat per day, 2 fruits per day, and unlimited amount of veges per day. There is a list of fruits and vegies allowed. Also, 2 tablespoons of flax seed oil per day, which I use as my salad dressing with some vinigar and other spices.

The good thing is that I haven't really had to change my eating much. Just changing the salad dressing to an oil and vinegar, and adding some eggs and fruits. It kind of starts out as a low carb diet, but you can eat all the vegies you want with the fruit, so its not as restrictive and more well rounded (with the exception of bread).

The plan is in 3 phases and I briefly described the first which is the most restrictive. After a couple of weeks you can add a few carbs and then some dairy. So it really is a low carb rather than a no carb diet.

I figure if I cant stick with it, I will at least borrow some of the ideas she uses because it really makes sense when reading. From the other thread, I am gathering the problem is sticking with the program due to the restrictions and boredom of eating the same thing. I dunno we'll see. I know I dropped 3 pounds after one day, although I KNOW it is water weight seeing I spent have of the time in the bathroom from all of that cranberry juice

Oh yeah, another good thing is it is rich in the Omega 3 fatty oils which are good for you. I have read that many women can see a difference in their hair, nails, and complextion! Fat Flush here I come!

By the way, just wanted to state again that this is a BRIEF description of the plan and I am positive that I left something out, but I am at work now and unable to pull the ol'book out. Such is life...work interfering with my personal life! I'll check in later!

Hi everyone,
Vermont Mom-those pants sound great! Those sound exactly like the pants I wore when I met my husband 5 1/2 years ago...low on the hip, black, flared leg...with a tiny half shirt and a pierced naval...ahh, those were the days. I removed the naval ring when I was pregnant-as my belly got larger it began to look like the pin on a grenade...
I am still pretty young...(26)...so when I get to goal weight I think I still have a couple years of wearing that stuff again!;)
The party planning is going alright-I have all the fabrics cut out for the dress-there were like 10 panels just for the skirt! I will be ready to start getting it on the machine in a day or two!
I found some Disney Princess 3" tall figurines, and I am drafting a cake pattern to look like a castle to put them in front of-with ice cream cones on the top upside down for the steeple thingies-I am going to cover them with icing and make little toothpick flags on the tops of them-and a small graham cracker for the door, and mini marshmallows spaced out all across the top edges for the turrets. I am also debating whether or not to make her some balloon pillars. I had them at our wedding and paid a bundle-but since I insisted on doing most of the decorating the night before myself-I watched the balloon guy do them-they are really easy and cheap to do-it is just they look hard when they are together.
As far as the recipes, I have tried most of the ones I have put up here-like I said-I like easy ones that don't have 40 ingredients in them-so that is what I try to put up here.
Kina-I know all about your tamale thing. There is a mexican place in my hometown I have to eat at every time I go there-and it is SO good. Not like a Chi-Chi's-a small place owned by a mexican family in town. It is so good, and I am sick an hour later every time...it is actually one of those times where the price you pay for eating the food is worth it.
I just got done doing my abs workout-and Jas went on another walk with me last night. I am going to do my buns next...:sp:
Well, better go-have a good day everyone!

Hello to everyone!
Holly--you must look AMAZING! Don't wait for an excuse to wear the pants! You go, girl!!!
Kina--thanks for the compliment about being a teacher. I have an 8th grade homeroom, but I teach math to grades 5 - 8. It's a lot of fun and I especially love the beginning of the year. In what other profession do you get to clean off your desk and start all over again every year?? I also look forward to getting back into the 'routine'. I try to do a little bit of housecleaning every night during the school year, and I must tell you, that went out the window this summer! (But I do have a great tan!!)
Aphil--do you get "Family Fun" magazine? They often have great cake decorating ideas. Check out their website: familyfun.com. (I think--I'll double check when I get home!) YOu are so creative!!
Well, my TOM arrived. My PMS was pretty bad this month, but I did my double exercising for three days and that helped keep it in check. I will get on the scale in a couple of days.
Have a great day all! Read you in the morning!

Good Morning!!

Had a lazy day yesterday, first day of TOM and there is no other word to describe how I feel except SLUG !!! I dont want to move at all.
We rented some Dvd's and that is what I did last night. Watch movies wrapped in a blanket.
I did however make the crabcake recipe. It was a good one. I will be sure to make that again.

I need some exercise,so I will force my self to go for a walk to today!!!!

Aphil~~ You crack me up with the description of your navel ring!! And envy I you , I have always wanted to do cake decorating and never did anything about it. You should take some pics and post them for us to see!

Kina~~ Tamales,, ahh,,,one of my weaknesses...anything mexican. Its a good thing that I live so far up in the north (no mexican in there right mind would think of living here) as there are no mexican resturants anywhere! Where do you live in Texas? My son is in Wichita falls at Sheppard Air Base. He is leaving next week to go to Keesler Air Base in Biloxi. I was in Texas back in June.

Jacklyn~~ I hope the Fat Flush Plan will work well for you. What happens when you dont have a gallbladder? Does it still work? :)
Those Omega 2 Acids are really suppose to be good for us also.

Tryinhard~~I agree with Kina , teachers are angels. My daughter is wanting to be a teacher. It is a slow process for her though. She has been going to school part-time because she works full -time.

Holly~~ Your pants sound awesome!! Your hubby must love them also. Trashy ladies cotillion,, what a hoot!!!!

Well everyone, have a great day and keep on smiling!!!

Hi everyone,
The Fat Flush plan is a differnt one than what I was thinking of. The parts about the fruits and unlimited veggies sound pretty good, as well as the essential oils-but it is pretty restrictive.
If you are going to try to do this plan-if you are not already, try Northland or another 100% juice cranberry blend-Ocean Spray is mostly sugar water.
We all should be eating plenty of fruits and veggies anyway-and I like to eat more complex carbs like shredded wheat and grape-nuts cereals, and whole wheat breads and pastas-rather than white breads and bagels, and snacky type cakes. It is these types of blood sugar spiking foods that heighten your risk of getting diabetes.
White breads, white flour-these turn into sugar in your blood stream just as fast as eating sugar.
I am hypoglycemic, and at a very high risk for diabetes-I was gestational diabetic when I was pregnant-and a lot of people think that because something isn't sugary that you can have it. My aunt died from diabetes when she was 40-she was my mother's YOUNGER sister. My grandparents went to pick her up for church one morning, and found her on her couch.
She could never get that concept-that she had to watch that, and her total calorie intake-as well as the sugar. She preferred fruit juice over fruit, and did not watch her portions of the foods she was allowed to have-she ate a lot of white breads, crackers, etc.
A good rule of thumb is to check the labels of breads and crackers and cereals for fiber. If there isn't any-don't eat it very often. Try to eat fruit over juice when you can-especially with apple or grape juice-which are pretty nutrient free when in juice form. Orange and cranberry juice are better if you only have time for juice.
This is the only real reason I can see of trying to flush the "bad" carbs out of your system-most people are eating all of the sugar coated, bleached, refined breads and cereals full of chemicals.
When I try out new muffin recipes I look for ones with bran cereal or oats, or whole wheat flour as ingredients. I eat Eggo whole wheat waffles instead of regular-and they are excellent,by the way! There are times when I do eat the processed stuff-but I try to keep it to a minimum-like I only eat thin crust pizza-and I have it loaded with the veggie toppings.
I usually eat healthier fare like these, and only allow about 100 calories at the end of the day for a "junk" food-1/2 cup low-fat ice cream or something of that nature.
My weight loss after my children is more important to me than just looking and feeling better-I am trying to avoid being a diabetic for as long as possible-maybe altogether. I lost the weight gained after my daughter, and now I am trying to do it again...because I do not want to end up like my aunt.
I want to continue to do all of the things I am with my family, as well as more selfish reasons like looking better than my sisters-in-law! :s:
This is the main risk I am facing-for those of you with more fat in your upper body your risk is heart disease among others.
I am not trying to put a damper on things-but I have just been thinking of the other benefits we are going to receive besides looking good-the most important ones. The walking and aerobics is giving us stronger hearts and lungs, the weights are giving us stronger bones to avoid osteoporosis, the fiber in the whole grains and fresh produce is reducing our risk of colon cancer, as well as the produce reducing cancer risks in general. We are doing so much more for our bodies than making them look better!
Rejoice in what you are doing, and smile ladies! I want to be here talking with you all for many years to come!
Love,
Aphil :p

Hey its me again!

Nancy~apparently not having a gall bladder doesn't effect the success of the diet. I dont know why because it kinda contradicts some of the reasoning that I gave earlier. I dont even know if she addresses that in the book but I read from other "Fat Flushers" that it apparently doesnt make a differnce. I will try to look that up tonight and give you a better reason than my scientific "I dunno":p

Aphil~you are right, it is restrictive. That'll be my biggest challenge. I know what you mean about the diabetes. My dad has been diagnosed with it and it has really effected him. If he eats anything with sugar, his energy goes right down the drain. Of course, does he change the way he eats??? No way. He did lose about 50 pounds a while back but he has slowly slipped back into his old habits. I think he looks at it as "I'm 60...eaten this way my whole life...not gonna change". Oh well.

Hope everyone else is having a great day!

Hi everyone,
I had a pretty stressful night, and I stress ate a bit more than I wanted to-but instead of beating myself up, I am just going to up my exercise today, and not have my 100 calorie junk food today-I'll have a small 90 calorie protein shake or a serving of fruit.
I have the bodice done on Jasmine's dress-I fitted it around her to see if it was going alright, and she got so excited! Even without the skirt and sleeves attached, she knew what it was! ;)
My dad-who is very fit for his age, was playing corporate baseball with his company, and he got hit with a ball in the calf really hard, and lost the feeling in his leg for quite a long time. They had to go to the emergency room and make sure there wasn't a blood clot in there-to avoid the risk of stroke if there was. It turns out that it is alright, the ball just hit a nerve!
He is a real trooper-he doesn't work out, but he has played ball since he was a kid, and he is always doing construction, landscaping, and other outdoor work when he is not at his job. I can only hope to have his endurance when I am his age!!!
Well, I better go-I need to burn off those extra calories so my Monday scale day will maybe see the end of this plateau!
Have a good day!

Hello all :)

Just thought I'd check in again (I appear to have stopped getting notification of posts yet again but at least this time I remembered to come look before I had two dozen posts to catch up on!).

Anyway, today I'm at 18 weeks. I have gained.. 2-many pounds ;)
I finally found out that I've gotten Medicaid for all my pregnancy related health costs. I have my first prenatal appointment on my wedding anniversary (October 7).. I'll be around 24 weeks by then but they couldn't get me anything earlier.. :-( At least everything seems to be moving smoothly (other than gaining too much weight!) so I'm not too worried about waiting. I'm just impatient for fun things like an ultrasound :)

I tried Aphil's taco salad recipe a few days ago (cept I used 2 taco shells cuz we didnt have baked tostidos and I'm not really dieting so i figured it wouldn't be too bad.. and I substituted tomato for the salsa).. it was YUMMMMMY! I want more! :dizzy:

I bought some maternity clothes cuz my 'bigger' sizes (from before i lost the 40+ lbs) are finally getting tight in the belly. The kewl thing is i could get my maternity pants in a medium .. and I got 2 pair of casual sporty stretch pants (not sure how to explain them) from the 'juniors' dept (non-maternity) and got them in large (so they'll continue to fit as this belly grows!)... glad that i even fit into them at 18 weeks preggo!!

Okay, thats my update . . . glad to hear ya'll are still doing well..

Christine

:) Hello everyone!!

Hey, I've stopped receiving e-mail notification on this site...so I guess I have to be proactive and check each day!;)

Everyone sounds fantastic! And in such good frame of mind.

Hi Christine, good to hear from you!! We will be here to help you along after having the baby, to get you back into pre-pregnancy shape!

aphil, you had such an wise post, about us doing this for the most important reason, our health. That was so sad about your (young!) aunt. My dad could have lived alot longer than 68, and alot better quality of life had he eaten better and exercised. It just means so much to ourselves and our families if we are fit and healthy. (And THEN we get to wear our attractive clothes and feel great!)

Hi Nancy! Did you get the swelling on your dental work checked out? Sure hope it's not bothering you. Hope your TOM is not making you feel too yucky

tryin'hard, thanks! I did wear the pants today while my husband and I went for a motorcycle ride to the next town to a coffeehouse. I'm glad I've been using self-tanning cream on my belly, otherwise it would be GLARING, BLINDING white in those hiphuggers, instead of a muted tan

Hi Kina, so sorry to hear of your mixed-up schedule that must be difficult. You are probably right on plan, though, with planning your meals and snacks so you won't be tempted by the stress to have a food blow-out.

jackly, how is the Fat Flush plan going? Hope it's working for you!

Well, ladies, isn't it so much more difficult to get up early in the morning when it isn't light as early? It used to be no problem for me to get up at 5:30 am, so I could start my exercise tape at about 5:40; but now I keep hitting the snooze button 'cause it's not so light out...I have to really force myself to get up on time, 'cause it's so much easier to do it early and get it over with rather than tackle it after I get home from work, and the rest of the family is kinda in the way :^:

But I have to say that keeping up with the exercise and eating less/eating right is helping my body take some nice turns for the better, like visible muscle toning and a SMALLER BUTT! Woohoo!

Have a wonderful evening, sweet dreams and a nice Sunday! I'll be at work but still having a good time :D

Your friend, Holly

Sunday night, and I have the next two days off...yippee!

Nancy, I am sending you lighter thoughts for your weigh-in! Say, cute weight symbol! And hooray to you for doing weights!

I guess have to cut our grass tomorrow, as it's supposed to be nice and it's pretty shaggy.

Everyone else must be busy enjoying their Sunday...come back Monday, guys!

Can I tell you about this silly tribulation I've had for the past two Sundays trying to make a lemon cake at work...it's a recipe I've made for years but last week, when I made it, I wasn't paying proper attention while I multiplied the ingredients, and put in twice the sugar...it came out a sodden mess and I had to throw it all out (4 Bundt cakes' worth). Today, I thought, "okay, I'll do the lemon cake today"...after it's been in the oven for a while, I check on it, and it just looks kinda strange...back to my recipe card to check, and I realize that THIS week I forgot to put in the baking powder and baking soda! DUH! I'm a professional with 15 years' experience?!? This time, I was able to salvage them - I crumbled them into a pan, made a lemon filling; sprinkled frozen raspberries over the cake and poured the lemon filling over; then chilled it and garnished with whipped cream. Came out like something I intented to make on purpose!

This evening, my husband and I went for a ride to the Trapp Family Lodge, in Stowe (you know, the "Sound of Music" family place). There was a beautiful sunset with pink and orange clouds, and it was a wonderful ride! Then in the semi-darkness on the way home; but that's pretty fun too :D

Hope to hear from everyone tomorrow! Have a nice night!

Your friend, Holly; loving wearing size 8 jeans:smug:

Hello everyone! Well, my new plan is working really well! I feel really good when I'm on it, so I definitely think that this is something that I can stick with!:) The neat thing is that I am able to cheat a little here and there and its not such a big deal. I used to go off the program for one night and gain 3 pounds :o but on this my weight is pretty stable. Hope everyone is doing well! Hate to cut it short but I'm at work and you know how it goes.:p

HI everyone! Happy Monday! I am having a VERY happy MOnday! I got on the scale this morning and for the first time in years, I am in the 140's!! I weighed in at 149 this morning, meaning I have lost 101 (count 'em 101!! pounds!) BUT, I can't figure out how to edit my signature at the bottom of my post!!
I went on a MAJOR back-to-school shopping spree--Holly, I was thinking of you because it's all in size 8's! Yesterday I cleaned out my closet and got rid of anything that over a size 10, except for my wedding dress! THis is so fun!
School starts Wednesday--I am just about ready. We have a boring meeting tomorrow and then I'll just put the finishing touches on my classroom and I'll be all set!
Christine--so good to hear from you and that you're feeling good. I loved being pregnant!
Holly--I have ALWAYS wanted to go to the Trapp Lodge. Is it as beautiful as it is in my mind?
Snowey--how're you feeling? I'm wishing you a good weigh-in this morning!
Everyone else--I hope you're having a great day! I couldn't wait to share my good news with all of you! Have you noticed that there are some people you can talk to about your weight and some you can't???
Read you all tomorrow!

Snowey, you mentioned doing weight everyday-do NOT use weights everyday, unless you are changing body parts. If you are working your whole upper body in a workout, you should only od it every other day- to get maximum results adn avoid doing damage to the muscles.
Try this-do weights with your upper body three days a week-Mon, Wed, and Fri. Some good tapes to do this with are Denise Austins upper body ones-and spend Tue, Thur, and Sat doing you lower body tapes and a small amount of aerobic activity everyday like walking, jogging, dancing, or biking.
If you do a whole body workout tape (toning/resistance not aerobics), do that every other day or three days a week, and
do aerobic/cardio the rest of the days. Abs are the only body part that should be resistance trained every day-the rest of our muscles take 48 hours to recuperate.
I was going to weigh in today-but TOM came yesterday, and I am going to wait...

WOO HOO.....way to go Tryinhard,,, you rock!!!! 101 pounds gone what a achievement!!!!!!! You are getting the happy dance!! :dancer: :cb:  You have to be feeling wonderful !!

Holly~~ My daughter would love to go to the Trapp Lodge, the Sound of Music is one of her favorite movies. Glad to hear that you were able to fix the :lemon: dessert, you must be a good pastry :chef: !!!!!!

Jacklyn~~good to hear that the FF is working well for you! That is how I am feeling about WW. We have to think of this of something we do for life.

Aphil~~ The weights that I have been doing are just on my arms. Should I not do them everyday? They arent that heavy(will have to work my way up to that). I just need to do something about these arms.
I hope that after your TOM your weigh in is a greatone!

My weigh in today showed a loss of 1.5 pounds... the scale kept flucuating between 1.5 and 2 pounds. So after 35 times on and off the scale  I finally took the 1.5 pounds. I am still hoping that one week Ill have a loss of 3 pounds or so...but as long as the scale keeps moving in the right direction I am happy!!

Well I am off to take a walk before the rain comes down...
See everyone later.. Have a great day everyone!!! Keep smiling!!!

One more thing... I tried a new WW recipe last night, Cheesy Chicken Cups,, if anyone wants it let me know Ill post it on here...they were good and the hubby liked them also!!!!!!

Snowey-you should work your entire upper body-not just arms-also do chest, back and shoulder exercises-and not every day-just every other, no matter what size weights you are using.
Try Denise Austins New upper body one-the chest exercises uplift your you know whats, and the shoulders and back exercises really help your posture, as well as give the total look when your arms get in better shape. The video has all of those parts in a short 10-15 minute workout-it has three on the tape-from beginner to advanced, so it will keep you challenged for a while. When you get up to the hardest one with your small weights-I am guessing 1-2 pounds? Then you can go up to 3 or 5.
You can get it at Wal-Mart, or most stores like Best Buy or Suncoast Video-or online at her website.
It won't do you any more good to do it every day, so you may as well do walking or fun dance type exercise like Richard Simmons or something on the other days to burn calories.
I hope oafter TOM my weigh in shows the end of the plateau-but I have had to give in to a craving or two...AAAAAKKK! Nothing too bad though!

Hello everyone! Things are still going pretty well for me. I even managed to get my hubby out last night to walk a couple of miles with me.

Congrats Tryin'hard! You are really an inspiration to all of us!:) I cant wait for the whole crew to meet their goals like you have!

Well, again this will be a short post. I am at work and very tired :( I stayed up late last night working on the home job. Burning calories...right??;)

Everyone have a great day!

Everyone have a great day today-I am once again sick with a real bad sinus/allergy thing...but at least I don't want to eat! ha ha ha
I still intend on doing a short workout today-even if I don't feel up to doing my regular amount-I have a couple short 15 minute aerobic/jazzercise tapes I can do when I am not feeling up to par-this way I don't push myself, but I am at least doing something!
My daughter's dress is coming along-I finished the sleeves last night-now on to the skirt puff things-you all know what I am talking about if you have seen Cinderella!
My son is cutting about 4 teeth at the same time-so he is real pleasant to be around this week! AACKK!
Well, I better go-I need to get motivated to at least do one of the 15 minute workouts-and maybe I'll clean some house to get some more calories burned!

Hi everyone!

I'm finally getting my email notifications about replies here - cool!

Wow! everyone is on a roll and doing so well!

tryin'hard - what can we say? How about WOW! YOU ROCK!!! What an accomplishment for you - and we know that you are going to keep it off FOR LIFE!!!:dancer: :flow2: :flow1:

Yes, the Trapp Family Lodge is beautiful - you take a winding, steep road in Stowe up to the hills, and the Lodge looks just like huge Swiss chalets - they have a big staff of gardeners, so every window has a window box full of blooming flowers - the grounds are also landscaped beautifully - and the valley spread out below with the Worcester mountain range is spectacular. Green mountains galore! (which is what "Vermont" means in French).

Do you keep checking the tags of your clothes to confirm the smaller sizes?

hi jacklyn - I'm glad the FF is going well for you! And being so busy with both your day and home jobs will keep you from even thinking about snacking. Hooray!

Nancy - Isn't the on/off dance of the scale funny - except when it decides to show up something that we didn't expect and we faint or curse (hey! I tried to get the smilies for fainting or cursing and it won't let me:( ) The chicken recipe sounds GOOD - care to share?

You are doing so well on WW even without a WW group to support you - you go, girl!!!!:D

aphil, you have such good advice on exercise. Do you have those tapes you recommended to Nancy?

Hope your son's mood improves, poor little guy!(and poor parents, right?;) )and your sinus problem is gone soon.

I'm working on getting husband to take a good digital photo of me to post -he always has good intentions, but sometimes it takes a while...

Have a wonderful evening!

Your friend, Holly

ps - I saw a girl yesterday whom I haven't seen in months...she was very complimentary commenting on my loss, as she struggles with her weight...I told her what I had been doing; counting calories, exercising, and the GREAT supoort from this group. She doesn't have a computer, but she asked if she could call me when she felt she needed support, and I said of course!

aphil
08-28-2002, 08:52 AM
Vermont Mom-how sweet of you to offer support to your friend who is struggling with her weight!
And yes, I have all of the tapes I have recommended on this thread! As you all know-I exercise certain areas on certain days, but I alternate videos and exercise forms to eliminate boredom!
I switched my routine a bit-here is what I am doing now:
Mon.-Wed.-Fri
UPPER BODY WEIGHTS/RESISTANCE-biceps, triceps, chest, back, shoulders
LOWER BODY RESISTANCE/TONING-buns, thighs, calves (I didn't put weights, because most lower body toning uses your own body weight as resistance, such as when doing leg lifts or squats)
Tue.-Thur. and Weekend Days
Abdominals
Either Aerobic activity or core strengthening such as yoga or Pilates
I put the abs on the same day as the Yoga or Pilates, because these are ab strengthening exercises also, and even though abs are the only body part that can be worked every day-I want to keep them together and do them every other day.
This seems like a lot, but it is only about 45 minutes-1 hour each day total, depending on exactly what I am doing. The upper body sessions on the tapes I do are about 10-15 minutes each, and the lower body is about 20. Pilates or Yoga workouts are usually 20-45 minutes, depending on which I do, and if I walk or bike instead, I do about 30 minutes of it on those days-and other than the walking, which I do with my kids, I do it early in the morning before they get up.
Tryin'Hard-what have all of the other teachers in your school said about your transformation over the past year and a half? I bet they are all envious!
I hope you are buying yourself some great new work clothes!
You deserve it!

I have been keeping up with everyone, just not posting. Congratulations to everyone, for losses and attitude! I have just read "BodyFueling" by Robyn Landis, which explains what carbohydrates, fats, proteins, do in the body and what a lack of them does. Now I know what I am doing to myself if I skip a meal or eat too much protein, or whatever. I am going to make informed choices and get on with life. I am staying off the scale, my clothing will be my guide. This will be a process because I have always weighed at least 5 days a week. I'll post periodically and let you know how I am doing. I gain such strength from each of you in the way you approach your problems, and I don't mean just your fat issues. "Talk" to you later, KEWI

:) Hi everyone!
'
Nancy, I'm so glad your illness was quickly over!

Thanks for the chicken recipe - sounds delicious, quick and easy!

Hi kewi! Good to hear from you. Pop in to say hi whenever you can!

hi aphil! Your exercise routine sounds perfect.

Something happened at work today which has really got me in a spin. I was talking with a good friend/co-worker, whom I hadn't seen in a few days, as her work schedule was different from mine. When she asked "what's new?" I said, "well, have I told you about my trashy black pants?", and she said, "oh yes, I've heard about them from a couple of people". I then said, "well, that's funny, because I certainly wouldn't wear them here, and certainly haven't!"

She looked totally embarassed, then tried to change the subject, but I said hey, hold on! What are we talking about here? Well, apparently a couple of people made comments about another new pair of jeans I wore a few days ago - yes, they were form-fitting, but I was psyched that I could even fit into a size 6 (yep) so I wore them anyway.

I said, 'who the h*ll is making comments about what I wear?!" and it is apparently my boss, the chef; and the general manager, who is a 45+ year-old woman who flounces around in mid-thigh-high skirts, silly high heels, and halter tops (and she does NOT have the muscle tone in her back to gracefully wear a halter top!)

My "friend" then saw I was NOT taking this well; and said "oh, I shouldn't have said anything" and I asked, "well, do you think that I'm a pathetic 41 year-old woman trying to look like a 20-year old?!" and she said no, that I should be proud of my accomplishment; that the jeans were just lots tighter than what they were used to seeing me in. I said "yeah, because my other jeans were bagging out so badly I felt like a slob wearing them. I'm going to wear whatever I g*ddam feel like" and stalked out.

As soon as I got home, I asked my husband if he would honestly tell me if I was wearing something inappropriate; I KNOW he would be brutally honest with me, as he has been in the past! And he said there was nothing wrong with them. That they were snug, but that was fine.

So now I am so not looking forward to going to work tomorrow; I could be real sarcastic and wear my baggiest clothes and ask if the outfit meets with everyone's approval - or I don't know. I'm maybe taking it too roughly as it's a week before TOM and I know that is a sensitive time for me. Maybe I'll feel better after a good night's sleep.

Thanks for listening, guys (well, you had no choice, huh? ) and I'm sure I'll be cheery again tomorrow.

Your friend, Holly

Holly, I say "If you got it, flaunt it!" Shoot if the girl has a problem with it and has the gall to talk her trash behind your back she obviously is just envious of the facts that she is not ready to face. Which is she would never look as good as you do in those jeans. If it were me I would wear those pants as often as possible and then buy a few more. I don't know you but you certainly don't sound like a woman that would wear something just to go against the grain and be disrespectful about it. I think it is just that someone else has the attention that she so wishes and dreams for and she is just jealous about it.

Live your life as you wish not on the tails of what others think otherwise you will never live to the fullest.

I am out of here and on my way to work. I am sending you all positive thoughts for today and always.
Bye.

Nancy-that recipe sounds SO good! I am going to have to try that one!;)
Kewi-I used to get on the scale every day, and it is really self defeating-things like your menstrual cycle, your sodium intake, and even when you last went ot the bathroom can fluctuate your weight by a pound or two-so I found I do much better if I only weigh in once a week, on the same day-first thing in the morning, and avoid it the week of my TOM.
I am glad you are gathering such strength from us-I tell you, the past few days I have felt so strong-I did an hours upper and lower body strength training, and an evening walk-and this morning I did a short 15 minutes of aerobics, but followed it with a Pilates/Yoga combo-it looks easy, but if any of you haven't done it before-it really concentrates on your abs and back-really strengthening them! I feel so strong after doing it-my back feels great-like I had an appointement with a chiropractor at much less cost! Since today is my cardio/abs day, I am going to do about 10 minutes more of concentrated abwork-and I am done for the day!
I have another recommendation for all of you-go to www.collagevideo.com and get their catalog of Exercise videos! It is great-it tells you all about the videos out-and they have EVERYTHING-ballet, aerobics, Pilates, step aerobics, yoga, line dancing, toning, weights-EVERYTHING! It tells you the difficulty level of the video, how many minutes, the kind of music-you name it! They have a lot of hard to find tapes, and even some on DVD-I am going to order a few ballet workout tapes-I used to take dance for years whenI was younger, and it will be great to do that once or twice a week on my dance/ab days and relive my childhood a bit-and maybe regain that posture and strength! They also have a Sesame Street Elmo workout I want to get for my daughter!
I am holding off getting on the scale until Monday-and I am really hoping the plateau is over, and that maybe I will see a pound or two loss...hopefully making it under the 200 pound mark-root for me ladies!
Well, everyone have a good morning!

Hi there. I've never posted before but I had to, seeing what you wrote, because the same thing happened to me recently. I work in insurance, which is a relatively conservative industry, but I am also a programmer, and the IS department is much more laid back than other departments. I am also the youngest. One day, instead of wearing my standard pants-and-a-dress-shirt, I opted for a sleeveless sweater and capri pants. I noticed that people were looking at me strangely, and only later that day did I find out that EVERYONE was talking about my clothing, regardless of the fact that many of them wear less on top (tanks or spaghetti straps) and that many of the men wear pants that are faaar too tight for them (if you know what I mean). So, apparently, it's okay for the men to wear clothing that's way too snug but I wear something summery and I get attitude? I was indignant. I still am, and that was a month ago. Grrr.

So, I know how you feel. People expect you to consistently wear the same stuff and once you try to branch out, they think that it's okay to talk about you -- since when was gossiping an okay thing to do? Besides, how lame is it that they only notice that you're not dressing baggily anymore and instead of complimenting you, they get insulting? Grr! Wear a corset to work next week and see what they have to say about THAT! (That is, if you don't mind being unable to breathe or bend over all day... ;))

Anyway. Hi! I'm Alison. I moved to the midwest and gained 10+ pounds. (Damn cheese curds!) I finally got fed up with it and started exercising and watching my calories on July 29, and I've already lost 14.5 lbs and work out at least 5-6 days a week! My goal is to lose 9.5 more or so and then to maintain, although I am wondering what my normal calorie intake should be to maintain, so that's gonna take some experimentation. My fave things to do to exercise are elliptical training (we have some at work, I do it about 2x a week) and step videos (I love Kathy Smith's "Great Buns and Thighs", and I hate working out in front of other people when it requires even marginal co-ordination, so, yeah.). :)

Side note: The support I feel that I need is to keep my counting calories healthy. My boyfriend, a psychiatrist, has made me very nervous about EDs and while I love food too much to ever starve myself, I also want to keep realistic goals, which is easier to do when other people are keeping an eye on you, too. So, I guess a question I have is: if you count calories, what is your daily goal? And what is your height/weight (so I have a standard to compare to)?

I'm 5'8".

I'm happy to be here!

Oh yeah, also, I don't know if anyone has written about it, but www.videofitness.com has tons of reviews of exercise videos so you can make educated purchasing choices. My #1 recommendation: The Firm's More 5-Day Abs. That tape is rad, and it has 5 5-10 min ab workouts that you can sprinkle through your week. :)

Hello everyone! Welcome Alibee!

Holly~I have my own little saying about those gossipers that helps me. I always say "Nobody ever talks about the wallflower".....you know the plain Jane that nobody notices? Fact is, you've lost weight and you're looking good and people are NOTICING. So take it as a compliment:) If these people are so miserable in their lifes that they have nothing better to do at work than to discuss your clothes????? Poor them, I wouldn't give it another thought...and wear what you want!!! With all of your accomplishments, be proud of yourself and forget them!

Everyone have a good day!

Holly/VermontMom-We must have posted at the same time, and I missed your last post. I received many of the same types of coments when I lost the weight and got fit after Jasmine-I beleive I told you the comment from my mother in law-" That haircut makes your face look a lot thinner" which to I replied, "No, I think it was the 42 pounds." People notice when you lose weight, and even more so-they notice when you get fit, which LOOKS MAJORLY DIFFERENT.
The comments you will receive are jealous ones-most people are unhappy with themselves and they would rather talk about someone who is doing something about their problem than face their own.
Wear those pants and look good in your 6/8's. When I get down to goal, I am going to tell you all about the trashy pants and lingerie I am going to buy! Heck, I am feeling so strong and good, I am doing trashy stuff already like red toenails and a shade darker lipstick...
I cannot wait until next summer and show off my new body I will have then in front of my sister in laws-they may be thin-but they have no muscle tone! (I love my in-laws, by the way, but they are just not supportive of my fitness efforts-for some of you it is your spouse, friends, co-workers,etc. Someone will always be envious.)
Alibee-Welcome, and why don't you give me your current weight and age along with your height, and I will give you a guide as far as calories per day!

Well as for me, I am feeling better then yesterday, just had some funky thing come over me that made my stomach hurt on and off all day long. SO far so good today. I am still eating 100%OP and very proud of myself for that. The WW meetings start again on September 11th, so I am going to join then, even though I am doing great on my own.

Its time for me to go call my daughter, today is her 24th birthday and I know she has opened the gift I bought for her when we were home on vacation ( I left it at my mom's so should could not open it till her birthday) We bought her a DVD player and a few movies. She has been wanting one so I know she will be thrilled.

Hello everyone!

THANK YOU ALL for the support and kind words!!!!

I did feel better this morning; realized that I am happy as I am, and feel good about myself; and that far outweighs snippy comments from unhappy folks.

alibee - welcome!!! Thanks so much for sharing your story, too. Wow, you have done really well in such a short time - 14.5 # down from July 29!!

I'm sure aphil sent you some good info on calories - she was my first contact here way back in February, and got me started onto where I am now :cloud9: . Ihope you will join us regularly!:D

kina - Hi! Thank you for your wise words. They are almost exactly what I read in my horoscope for today, though I don't usually read those. But it was the same; go where I feel I need to, not be ruled by what others say. You're sweet!

aphil - thank you too! Yes, the comment from your in-law...sheesh.

I commend you on your exercise routine - you must be able to do the exercises precisely, 'cause you feel so strong and well afterwards. Yay to you!

Yes, I've been to collage.com - that's where I ordered my Gilad tape, and now I'm on their mailing list for their great catalog. Wish I had many $$$ to spend on many tapes!:strong:

Isn't it nice when we feel good enough about ourselves to start doing different things, such as the red toenail polish, and more enhanced make-up...girly stuff that makes us feel pretty.

Nancy - also thanks to you! You are doing SO great with your own self-disciplined program. And what a nice gift for your daughter!!! Glad that you're over the sudden illness.

jacklyn - hello and thanks also! How are you doing with FF?

kewi - Hi kewi! Now, do I remember correctly that you consistantly exercise with weights? If that is a habit in your life, that is so great. We hope to hear from you again soon!

tryin'hard - hi! Yes, you must be busy with start-of-the-year school stuff. Hope your classroom is full of eager, happy kids!!

Christine - hello! how are you and baby doing? Have you felt movement yet, or is it too soon? Does your doctor recommend exercise such as stretching, walking? I know being somewhat flexible helped me with my second child.

Well, ladies, I can't tell you the big smile I had reading all of your supportive replies - it really means alot!!! A big cyber-hug to all my friends!!!!!:grouphug:

Sweet dreams!

Hi all,
Hello to every one of you! :)
I have been up since 5, gotten all Jasmine's invitations written out and mailed, did my strangth training for my lower body, and had a short walk around the block with the kids when they got up. I will do the upper body when it is naptime-I had hoped to get it done early, but the invites took longer than expected!
The party is in two weeks-I have the guests done, present bought and wrapped, decorations bought except the balloons-and her dress halfway done...I will get there! I have a couple of hours to work on it tonight when the kids go to bed.
We will be going to our campsite tomorrow morning until Monday afternoon-so I will be away for a couple days. I will be bringing plenty of fruit and healthy snacks-and try to avoid all fatty things except one burger or hot dog on Monday's picnic...
I was stretching out last night, and I felt the definition forming in my arms and shoulders, especially the triceps area...it is still covered up to the general public with fat-but I am confident it will emerge in the next few months! :s:
Then we'll talk about the trashy tops I will buy...ha ha ha
I may have to travel to Vermont Mom's bakery just to walk through and let her co-workers talk about me.
About the Pilates...I think it was Nancy that asked about that-it is a real good workout, and while it is slow paced-it is pretty difficult. It mainly works the abdominals and back-making them really strong, improving your posture also. This is why I do it on the same day as abs, and do the rest of my strangth training on other days. Start out with a mat workout for Pilates-they have other ones with balls, stretchy bands, etc. They even have classes at gyms and the YMCA.
Healthy Fast Food alert:KFC Tender Roast sandwich without sauce-270 calories-the other info can be found at www.kfc.com. It is YUMMY, and the chicken breast is moist and big!:cbg:
Well, I better go-I will probably check in once more before we leave tomorrow! Have a good productive, strong day!

Hi everyone! With the start of school this week, I've only had time to read and not post! Even with 17 years of teaching experience, I still have the butterflies in my stomach on the first day!

Holly--Isn't it amazing how you've now become the source of your co-worker's entertainment!!! Pretty sad for them don't you think?? But, I know what' you mean--there's a teacher here at school who thinks she is my own very personal fashion police. She is very comfortable criticizing my outfits on a daily basis. I try to just let it go in one ear and out the other!

Alison--Welcome! It sounds like you're doing great on your own. You will come to love the support here! I know I sure do!

Nancy--I didn't know you were going to go back to the WW meetings! You've got so much good advice--I'd love to be in that meeting with you! You are such an inspiration!

I hope you all have a great weekend! I'll read you all Tues morning!! Take care!

Tryin' hard, what does your school co-worker say to you? Give me her number, I'll set her straight! I am probably the most outspoken person in day to day life among us-if someone ticks me off by being rude, rudely impatient, or catty-I let 'em have it!
I just finished my upper body...can you say sore shoulders?!!!
I have been absolutely starving all day...I mean hunger pangs-the whole bit! I know it is because of the step up in my workouts this past week-so I have let myself have 200 extra calories today-because if my tummy is actually growling, then it is not boredome eating, and my body really wants it so I added a banana and half a granola bar to my daily intake...it is a good sign, really-my metabolism has been revved up with these workouts!
Well, I am going to get a shower now-everyone have a good holiday weekend-I will be weighing in on Monday-wish me luck!

Happy Friday everyone....

I am just back from the dentist. Today was the crown lengthening procedure... of what fun!!! She said it will hurt for about 4 or 5 days (the crown lengthening is the burning of the gum around the tooth that needs the crown), She said it will feel raw also. :eeks: My next dental appt is suppose tobe Oct 9th(my birthday) but I hope they get me in sooner. Hate walking around with this temporary thing in my mouth...

Y'all would have been proud of me today at work - I defiantly wore a pair of snug jeans - hahaha! Let 'em talk!:tape:

Nancy, how is your poor mouth/dentalwork feeling?Hopefully you can get in again way before Oct. 9th.

aphil, it's so great that you are able to determine what you feel you need in extra calories 'cause of your increased workout, and only allow yourself that. Yes, we are all wishing you luck on Monday!

I will be getting together with my family on Monday (my mother, 2 brothers, and sister); we haven't seen each other since early May; so I know my appearance will be a big surprise to them. If it's nice weather, I will also pull up on my shiny mc; that will be a HUGE shock! (my mother will freak!:yikes: )

I hope everyone has a nice Sunday!

Good morning all!

Hope everyone had a good (long) weekend.

My family was super surprised first to see me pull up on the motorcycle...bless my mom, all she kept saying was "oh my gosh, oh my gosh..." (and bless her for NOT saying but probably thinking "you're going to kill yourself on that thing!"). Then once I peeled off all the protective clothing, my sister said "oh my gosh, you are so skinny now!". Which I am not (skinny) but just alot smaller than before.

Ate lots of good food and too much dessert; time to get back on the wagon!:)

Everyone have a great day!

Hi everyone,
Well, I weighed in-and I am still at the same weight! AAACCKKK!!
I am not going to let myself get discouraged, because I am seeing small changes in my body, even though it is not registering on the scale yet-like I mentioned before about my arms, and my shorts are slightly looser in the hip area. I am going to keep on doing what I am doing-and I am confident the scale will go down in a week or so.
Scales only monitor weight...and they do not factor in body fat percentage-and I am positive with my workouts that it is going down little by little, even if the poundage is not yet.
(That would still be nice though- )
I was bored out of my skull camping with my whole in law clan this weekend...and my mother in law does not know how to make anything "unfattening"-so I either had to forgo breaksfasts and tell her I wasn't hungry, (while sneaking and having a granola bar or something), or if I did eat something she made, VERY carefully watch my portion sizes...I was all excited when she told me she was going to grill chicken breasts yesterday-until she said they had been marinating in Italian sald dressing all night! I just flat out told her the one healthy thing she cooked all weekend-and she had to soak it in oil overnight! :^:
It really frustrates me so much! If I tell her to try using oil instead of shortening, or to try a light salad dressing, or to please dip me out a portion of pasta before she puts butter all over it-then she has to tell everyone how it just doesn't taste the same...so from now on, she will just have to get used to me bringing my own food-or only eating one or two things out of the mounds of entrees she makes...luckily, most family dinners there has at least a small tray of cut up fruit or veggies-only because she has a garden.
I have tried to explain to her the difference between oil and shortening-that even though they have the same calorie/fat content, why oil is better for your heart...even tried to make it easy to remember-"solid at room temperature is bad."
I don't want her to change the way she cooks totally-but small things, like having 100% fruit juice for my kids instead of Hi-C or Kool-Aid-no tossing the spaghetti with butter before she adds the sauce, etc.,
I mean, if I make something and take it over there-eveyone likes it unless I tell them it is low fat or calorie, then everyone says they can tell-so I am just not going to tell them anymore.
It is so funny-because we have so much in common as far as everything else-like crafting and sewing, etc.
Oh well, enough of my venting...
I am getting ready to do my workout-it is abs day, and I am still deciding on whether I want to do aerobics or dancing today...I will do abs first and see what I feel like then.
have a wonderful day everyone-I will check in later!

I just had something cheer me up a bit...even though I have beenat a plateau for 3 weeks-I did just check my BMI-body mass index-and it has went down from 34 to 32...those 10 pounds have done a major improvement in my health!
If you don't know anything about BMI, it is a measurement of your body mass (weight for your height) and it tells you basically what a healthy weight range is for your height, and how much the risk increases or decreases for health problems at your weight. I still have a long way to go, and want to get off this plateau and get more fit, but it is nice to know my loss so far has some benefits!
You can check your BMI at many fitness websites-they have a calculator at www.fitnessmagazine.com, to name just one.
I just did my cardio-I decided on doing some light aerobics, and I am getting ready to do abwork now...

My parents used to be the most unhealthy eaters ever (my mom goes through phases of things she loves to eat, and one time it was Hagan Daas bars -- like, 3 a day) until my dad had his first angioplasty, and they went to a pretty much fat-free diet. Now they are learning that you have to control calories too, so when I go back to see them, I am not worrying so much about what they are going to try to get me to eat. Now, if only I could get them to cook kosher... ;) Hopefully it won't take a scare like my dad had to get your mother-in-law to learn that she's not doing anyone a favor!

Now, my question... how do you guys exercise when you're sick, or do you just let it go? I've been way sick since Saturday but I still want to do more than sit on the sofa all day long... any advice appreciated :)

Hi everyone! HOpe you all had a great long weekend. With the exception of too much wine on Friday, I managed to stay within my program.
ALison--one thing I noticed since I've been walking every day is that I don't get sick very often. I may wake up with a stuffy head or a headache, but usually my walk takes care of it! If you really are too sick, you should listen to your body and don't push it. But for the most part, I think you'll feel better after a little bit of moving around!
School is going well! My class is, for the most part, a little more on the ball that others I've had in recent years and I'm looking forward to working with them.
I've been working hard balancing my calories. I need to maintain now, and that's different than loosing. Any suggestions would be great!!
Make it a great day everyone!

Hi,
Alison-when I do not feel like exercising due to sickness-I usually do something very mild like a short walk around the block, or 5 minutes walking on the treadmill if that is what you walk with. I also have a yoga tape called "a.m. yoga", they sell it at www.collagevideo.com, and it is only about 15 minutes long, not strenuous, but the stretches and movements get your blood flowing a bit, and you feel very refreshed. It uses a yoga strap in the video, but you can substitute a belt if you don't have access to one.
I emailed my mother in law today, and had a heart to heart with her-hopefully she will call me or email me back, and it will be good. I just told her about my aunt who died at 40 because of being noncompliant with her diabetic diet, and that with my high risk, I really need to be careful, so I can be around to take care of her grandchildren. I made it out to be primarily for health reasons, not just fitness. I told her I wasn't asking her to change how she cooked-or to stop making family favorites, but if she could do small things like leaving 1 chicken breast out of the marinade for me, and small things like that. She is a very mothering person, so I made it out like it would be a great help if she would do these little things for me. I explained to her the needs I have, that while I am not ful blown diabetic now, that the longer I stay overweight and eat too many simple carbs, that it heightens my risk. I told her to expect me up at 6 going for a walk or exercising if we stay over while we are in town, and that anyone is welcome to join me when I go. I told her I would occasionally eat one of her desserts at a holiday meal-because I wasn't giving it all up entirely-and they ARE very good, but that I didn't want to be pressured into seconds or a larger serving.
I also asked her to not make a big deal about it to the rest of the family, just to treat me like she did my husband as a child-who was a picky eater.
I think by appealing to her mothering, and her desire to do special things for all of us, that this may work. (She always makes family meals at birthdays-whatever the person of honor wants)
tryin' hard-what amount of calories were you eating on your weight loss plan? You can probably eat about 2000 calories a day if you continue to exercise frequently to maintain your weight loss.

Hi everyone,,

The long weekend sure went by fast and was basically pretty boring here. It has been raining on and off. But even with the rain I am still managing to get my walks in.

Yesterday was weigh in day, and like Aphil I stayed the same UGH,,,, cant figure that one out as being OP 100 percent you would think that there would be some type of loss. But Ill continue to carry on.. cant let my self get defeated.

Holly~~ So glad to hear that the reaction from the family was a good one!!!!!

Aphil~~ In laws....hmmm what can I say,,, I have the SIL that makes me nuts...she just needs to go away :)

Tryinhard~~ I wish I knew how one maintains weight loss. That is what I am hoping to find out when I go back to WW next week. I want to be able to lose the rest of my weight and finally make it onto lifetime and maintenance so I know the right way to keep it off. Ill fill you in on anything I find out.

Well I am going to get busy here and burn some calories...I want this week to be a greaet weight loss!!!

Have a fun day all!!

Nancy,
the key to lifelong weight loss and maintenance is to keep doing what you are doing-eating healthier foods, getting exercise at least 5 days a week-more if you can-the only difference is adding a few more calories or ww points to what you are eating daily to lose weight.
I don't like the word diet, because that is a temporary thing-I am doing this forever. People say that things like diets don't work-(whatever the plan that they tried)-it is because the minute they reached goal weight, they went back to eating the exact same way that made them fat in the first place. We have to be making lifelong changes here-that is the key to maintenance-doing this forever.
This is something we will have to do the rest of our lives-we do not have the luxury like some people to eat whatever we want and stay thin, or the people who don't have the passion for food that we all do...I like to think of it like an addiction-just like tobacco or alcahol. It is a great milestone to quit drinking or smoking, but it is the real test to not start up again.
:chin: Something we need to think about...
Nancy-don't let the weigh in get to you-I am not. If we keep doing what we are doing, then it will go down. Are you exercising enough? Maybe something small like adding 5 minutes to your exercise each session will help.
Well, better go...I have a zillion things to do!
Take Care,
Amy-Aphil

:) Hi everyone!

Alibee, I have read that there are times when you are sick that you should definitely NOT exercise...if it's a cold, and most of your symptoms are located in your head (sniffy-stuffed nose, sore throat) it's okay to do a mild version of your regular exercise, but if symptoms are in your chest (coughing, rattling phlegm ug, sorry) you should NOT exercise and concentrate on resting, & lots of fluids.

hi tryin'hard! You know, I was just reading today about maintaining weight loss - and experts are now recognizing that it's like a whole different ballgame from weight loss...mainly because one has to adjust to the fact that it's for the rest of one's life to keep on track. But I think someone like you who has these new habits will just take on the new habits for life. I have complete faith in you to stay the new you!

aphil, you are to be commended for so tactfully approaching that problem with your MIL. Besides being tactful, you are also so clever to appeal to her mothering instinct! Smart you. I sure hope she can adjust just a little for you.

Nancy, how disappointing that the stupid scale didn't move for you this time...that means it will be a bigger loss next time! Because you are so dedicated and OP, it will surely show next week :) .

Hello to everyone else! Have a nice evening and a great tomorrow!

Your friend, Holly

ps - husband took a digital photo of me in a bikini top - I'm debating whether to post a small version of it, or not...I mean, it's a swimsuit top, but is the teeny weeny lime green polka dot bikini top...well, husband likes it :o .

aphil
09-04-2002, 08:30 AM
Vermont Mom-post that top! We all want to see the new you!!!;)
Nancy-we have been discussing lifelong maintenance, and I forgot to mention also, that when you reach your weight/clothing size goal and start your maintenace phase, that a real problem some peope have is lack of motivation-the compliments like "You are losing so much weight!" taper off, as people get used to the new you, and you are not seeing scale losses-so your goals have to change a bit to stay motivated.
Having newer goals helps keep you motivated, and you should reward yourself when you reach them, just like you do when you lose a goal amount of weight. Some good ones are: participating in a walk-a-thon, walking a certain amount of miles in a week, taking a new class you have never done before and making it through it-like line dancing or kickboxing, only eating red meat once a week-whatever your new health goal should happen to be.
For all of you ladies who want a new pair of jeans, I was reading in this months Shape magazine about Lee jeans you can buy online for $25 that the proceeds go to breast cancer charity. They may have info on the Shape site at www.shapemag.com or at Lee's website. This is a great way to buy a new size and help out. Yoplait is also having their pink lids campaign again, where you mail in your pink yogurt lids, and they donate $.10 for each one you send. It is great to incorporate something for our health with such a wonderful cause.
I have just finished my lower body workout, and I am getting ready to feed the kids breakfast-I'll do 20 minutes of upper body, and be done for the day, with the exception of a short walk around the block with my daughter. (BTW-her dress is coming along-working on the wasit puffs-difficult little buggers! )
Have a wonderful productive day everyone!

I got so tired of sitting around yesterday (I watched everything that my TiVo had stored that held any remote possibility of interest for me... including Judge Judy tell someone that they were an "immoral piece of crap"...) that I did 25 minutes of step, at which point my body firmly alerted me that it was ready to stop now, thank you very much. Oh well, that's better than nothing. And now, I'm at work because I couldn't stand being at home another minute. I'm a weird chick.

Of course, my food choices yesterday weren't the best... I ate an apple, some pretzels, 3 pieces of veggie pizza, and a bit of lowfat ice cream. :s: Oh well, at least I kept within a reasonable calorie range. I blame sickness! :)

Alibee,
Your food choices weren't that bad-sounds like you did alright.
Well ladies, I had a binging moment today...without even thinking I slipped and had waffles with peanut butter and syrup!:ink:
My biggest problem is when I binge, I tend to blow it the rest of the day. Well-I got it together, and I am punishing myself for it, instead of bingeing the rest of the day. If I do this, it is going to have consiquences. I have already done my daily workout-it was strength training day, but I am adding 15 minutes of cardio on my bike tonight, and my dinner will be replaced by a meal replacement shake to make up for those waffle calories!!!
This is how I am going to have to handle this from now on-if I slip up-then I have to pay for it! :rain: This moment is not going to rain on my parade!
Nancy-I didn't realize you lived in Canada! Hope you had a great walk!
I still haven't heard back from my MIL yet, sometimes she doesn't check her email everyday...let's hope her mothering instincts will be more concerned over my health than me having a full belly-and she will be willing to bend for me a bit-even if it is just for my portion and not everyone elses! If that goes well for a while, maybe she would be willing to sub applesauce for half of the oil in baking recipes! (It is a trick I use to reduce fat in baked goods while still keeping some moistness inside.)
When I am done with Jasmine's costume, I am thinking about making a Halloween one for myself-my favorite holiday-I was born Oct. 30! I was thinking either a priestess type getup like in the movie Mists of Avalon, or Madame Hooch from Harry Potter...(the broomstick riding/Quidditch teacher if any of you have seen it) I dunno-we'll see what I have time for. I may have to do something simpler this year, but you can bet next year's costume will be a sexy one! I'll have to show off my new body! ha ha ha
Have a wonderful day everyone! Let's all move our buns!

I think there's something in my brain that equates pizza with badness. I think I need to update myself to realize that veggie pizza isn't bad for you, really. Hm. Okay, I feel better. :)

Stupid notifications have not been coming to my inbox yet again (speaking of such things, ya'll are on page 12 here, maybe a new thread is in order?)... :)

Well I skimmed through to try to update myself but damn 2-3 pages of posts is a lot to read through! lol

I am 'officially' due January 23 but my cycles are so irregular that I'm guessing it should be a few days later (not that a few days matter much in the scheme of things, especially since I'll probably be scheduling a c-section earlier).

Sad thing... I have not been a doctor yet, except the health department women's health clinic to get 'proof of pregnancy' because I applied for Medicaid. Well, I FINALLY got the medicaid approval about 2 weeks ago but now I have to wait for their first available appointment at the prenatal clinic (because no local doctors will take medicaid patients without a referral from them).. Argh!! (This appointment is not until October 7 (my 2nd wedding annivesary)). So no clue on their exercise recommendations. I had grand plans of doing some pregnancy pilates (i got a book from the library and everything! lol) but so far, I'm doing a whole lot of nothing! I really should at least get me on the treadmill for a little walk a couple times a week.. I really need it!

Reguarding baby moving.. I am FINALLY feeling it, yeah!! I am 20 weeks, today I think. I am waiting for it to get stronger so my hubby can feel it too.. :)

So, thats the updates on me.. Glad to hear ya'll are still doing well.. about 5 more months and I'll be back into the swing (i hope!)...

:)

Christine,
Feel free to do your walking at a reasonable pace-you do not want to be huffing and puffing-and if you have had not risk of miscarriage or anything like that, you should be alright to do pregnancy workouts. You need to stop if you start any type of spotting or pain, though. As long as you are healthy, there is no reason not to engage in light exercise.
Why will you be scheduling a c-section? Have you had one before? Sorry, I am not real up to date on your pregnancy, you conceived while I was away.
When I was pregnant I did the Kathy Smith pregnancy workout every other day, because it had strength training in it as well as aerobics. The other days of the week I just walked.
Today is strength training day...I need to get up and moving on it, it is usually done by now! I have been working on Jasmine's dress, and hope to have her waist puffs done tonight...you wouldn't beleive the layers of netting sewn inside these things! AACCKK!!
There was a great article in Shape magazine about great breakfast recipes...it had a ton of them sent in by readers. You will have to count up the calorie counts for yourself, because you may use a different brand of food than they do-but it had a few I had never even thought of making before. Lots of easy stuff, like smoothies, homemade brekfast sandwiches, et.
Well, better get my buns moving....he he he
have a good day!

Good morning all :)

I've had no reason not to exercise. I'm not afraid its going to hurt me or the baby or anything. I'm just lazy. I swear since I found out I was pregnant all my healthy eating/living habits have dropped out the window.. and this is quite the opposite of what should be happening. I should be wanting to stay healthy for not only me but for baby!!

As far as the c-section goes, I had one with my daughter, after a grueling 48 hours of labor!! I fear labor! If the doctor I wind up with urges me to try for VBAC I may give it a go but for now, I'm leaning towards another c-section. Call me a wimp if you will, but even after almost 4 years, I remember the pain of labor and it was much worse than the pain of the c-section!!

Hope everyone has a great OP day .. :) Keep up the good work so I'll have my motivation when the time comes! :)

:)

Okay, I am fearing losing my self-control, and I still have about 8 hours before my first test; tomorrow is Rosh Hashanah, and we're invited to two different dinners, one tonight and one Saturday! I already know that this will be a high-stress holiday for me, because the local college football team (HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ) has a game and we unfortunately live near the stadium, so parking, moving, living, etc., is ****. (There are about 2 billion people who invade our neighborhood, drinking on our front lawn, parking in front of our garage illegally, etc.) On top of that, we live near the temple, so people are trying to park at our house for services, even though we have no extra parking. :s: So, that stress is a huge possible trigger, plus I will be around LOADS of honey cake (fattening as anything) and people eating. Ack!

So, I post this because then I will have to answer for my actions on Sunday. Stay tuned, and yom tov to all you Jews! :)

Hi everyone!! I sort of disappeared for a few months. I started a new job and have been working a heap of overtime (try 50 hours last month!) and the diet/exercise plan certainly dropped along the wayside.

After a round of tears last night I joined Weight Watchers this morning, even though I have 20 pounds to lose, I think I need serious help to get through this all.

Just a bit of background, the crazy Canadian who moved to Australia for love. That part of my life is fantastic. I have paid for flights home for Christmas, and would love to walk off that plane at least 15 pounds lighter. That is my goal!

Oh ya... Hi to Vermont Mom.... how is the bike going? I have done some serious miles on my little girl and LOVE her still.

I hope to join back into the discussion group and get to know all the new people that joined in since I left!!!

:D

I missed the chats, but after 12 hours in front of a computer with an hour's commute each way to work, I was a bit over email and the internet!!! Sorry guys! :(

Nola.

Hi all,
ALibee-I know exactly what you mean about the football thing. I used to live in Indianapolis, Indiana-and I worked in an office complex about 3 blocks from the Indianapolis Speedway-where they hold the Indy 500 race-which is a pretty big thing. We had people walking and partying anywhere they felt like it, parking illegally in our complex, and we would have to fight the people to get a parking place to work in! Even placing signs up didn't stop them. The traffic going to and from work was horrible! I feel for you!
Silence-when I was pregnant, all my eating pretty much went out the window for the first few months, until my glucose tolerance test came back bad, adn I had to start checking my blood sugar-then I had to straighten up. Even if youe at whatever you want all day long-really try to exercise each day, even if it is just 10 minutes on your treadmill. If you keep some muscle tone, it will be much easier to lose the weight when the baby is born. Think of it as the one thing to do each day for your baby, and to keep you strong for laboring your baby. BTW-I had both of my children naturally-but they both should have been c-section. They totally underestimated the size of my first-and they were adimant I wasn't pushing hard enough-and she was 10lb4oz, 23in long, with a 15in head! The doctor apologized afterwards-over and over and over! Raiden was induced a month early because of his estimated size at that time being around 8 lbs-WRONG AGAIN! 9lb4oz-the same size head and chest as his sister-he was just a bit lighter because he was shorter! The doc said if he were full term they guessed around 11+ pounds! (Did I ever tell you all I am not having any more kids?)
Kanola-good for you for getting back on track, and joining Weight Watcher! Some of us need all the support we can get to stay focused-which is why I use this board! If you need the extra-go ahead and hit those meetings! I am glad you are back-please keep us up on how you are doing! (Don't forget we have all shared in your tears-we are all in the same boat-just some of us at different stages in our journey. We love you and support you in your efforts! You can do this-we all can! Take those tears and turn them into determination!)
Speaking of that-I have sortof a weird way to motivate myself when I have cheated and need to get back on the wagon. It is depressing, but it works. I relive any emberassing moment, horror in a fitting room, or rude or hurtful comment I have ever had where my weight was a factor. If I relive that pain-feel that hurt/emberassment all over again-I get more determined not to fell that again and to do something about it. It may be extreme, and I don't do it for a little splurge, but if I go off plan for few days or longer-then it is time.
One of those moments was when I was taking my daughter who was only a few months old at the time, up on stage at a mall to participate in a baby pageant. I was so happy, and she looked so beautiful, and my stepfather taped the whole thing for me. When we got home, I was ecstatic that she placed-and I stuck the tape into the VCR, and it immediately turned to shame as I saw how big I was. Looking into a mirror is one thing, but seeing yourself from all angles like others see you...that is a wake up call. I have a picture on my fridge from that pageant to remind me of that moment always while I am in the kitchen. It was after that day that I lost 42 pounds over the next year...(and as you all know, baby#2 was conceived a few weeks later, so I am at it again!)
That is a major motivation for me, and when things get really bad, and I want to give up-I just pop that tape back in the VCR!
Well, today is cardio day, and since it is a weekend-I will be taking the kids for a walk, and doing some yoga later...
Have a good productive day!

Hello everyone!!!!

Welcome back Kanola~~~~ So good to hear that you are doing well and have joined WW. I have been doing the WW at home on my own for almost 6 weeks now. Officially joining on Wednesday as they have been closed for the summer. It is working ,,slow but slow wins the race right???? Be sure to let us know how it is going with you.

Amy~~ You impress me with my your continued focus on exercise. I do great on the eating end of things. But do not have the motivation when it comes to exercise. I do good for a few days and then I slack off. I just need to be consitent!!

Alison~~ I hope your celebrations this weekend are good ones. And remember you can have little tastes and still be in control.

Holly~~You skinny little thing...did I read right 146??? That is awesome... You need to post a pic for us to see. You have come a long way....I am so darn proud of you!!!!

Kina, Kewi, Mama Christine, Jacklyn, Tryinhard, I hope you are having an awesome weekend.

I am doing good. Still feeling positive!!!! Looking forward to the official meeting on wednesday. I know there will probably be a varation in the WW scale and my scale at home but oh well.. Ill live with it. Besides I always weigh in the morning at home (naked  ) and at WW it will be at noon and I am sure they would not like it if I was standing naked on their scale...
But all in all.. I am headed in the right direction . My goal will change from question marks to what WW gives as a goal on Wed.
Yes sir reeeeee.....my goal is in sight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great day, keep smiling !!!!
