Hey team, here's our thread for week 3! :)

I have taken down all the weigh-ins for week two, so if you didn't post, you have used a freebie. Remember, you have to post by midnight (well technically 11:59pm) Eastern Monday night.

Have a good Tuesday team!

Good morning!

I have decided that I am going to try to make this a cheat free week (which I have not done yet) and I am going to try to exercise at least 5x this week. I am ready to start this day with a positive outlook.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Had a little bit of trouble yesterday, but back on the wagon today. I'm really surprised with how well I'm doing. I haven't really added exercise so I plan on adding that in this week. Good luck ladies.

 fellow reds!

Good luck on the results today. Sorry I couldn't help this week, I had no gain or loss on the scale this week. Hopefully next WI will be a good one! I hope you all have had a good week so far. :)

Well, I'm starting week 3 off right. I've been POP and the scale has been decent. I'll most likely never be the biggest loser, but I could win most consistant loser! LOL
I'm looking forward to Ocober beginning since I'm starting a new running program. It should be interesting! If I survive injury-free then I should improve my 5K time pretty noticeably. Time will tell though, so wish me luck and send lots of prayers!

mythreesons-You can do it! Going cheat free is a challenge, but you just remember who's boss--YOU are!! Not your cravings. Let us know how it goes.

JasonsLea-I guess it's better than gaining, right? Not it's time to kick it into gear and show yourself what you're capable of...no excuses!

Ladybug-You're doing great! Just remember to add the exercise slowly so you don't over-do it and/or hate it. Do you know what kind of exercise you're going to do? Here's to finding what works for you!

zoochick777~ Congratulations on 2 lbs.!!!

mythreesons~ Congratulations on 2 lbs.!!! Good luck on cheat free week!

shan84~ Awesome job beating the hunger pains!!!

Ms Perception~ Good luck!!!

Tonight is the only night that I have to waitress, therefore the only night I have to really worry about what I am going to eat as it needs to be something from the restaurant. I haven’t started really doing a lot of exercise yet, so I’m making it my next project to incorporate more exercise into my daily routine…

HI Red Team,
It's been a lot different here with DS back, it's hard to realize how he's an adult now. I still want to ask when he's going to be back and to know where he's going just like I did when he was in school. I'm being real good about not asking and he's good about telling me where he's going to be at. He thinks he's found a car he likes, we are going to drive it Thursday and then he gets to do all the paperwork and financing.

Hey everyone I'm going to have to join the group who didn't lose this week, but hopefully next week will be better. I ate 6 servings of fruits and veges today so that's a plus. I'm doing the Iowa Lt Governor's Challenge. this is my second time doing it, you keep track of your fruits and veges and or your exercise and you can earn medals depending on how much you do. I won a gold for exercise my last time, my goal is a gold for exercise again and a bronze for nutricion. I'm already half way on my food, I might be able to make a gold in that too.

Everyone have a great week.

Week 3 already!! hope I can post a big loss soon. We have 3 more weeks of football then I will be back on schedule which helps me tremendously. I have not been getting in enough exercise lately but I have had this mind set that if I cant exercise for 30+ minutes then I dont need to bother. Not sure why I was thinking that but that is over. I have decided that I will get in some kind of exercise everyday even if it is just arm weights for 10 minutes. Then maybe that will get me back on track for exercise.

Hope everyone is doing well. Go red team!!!!

Hi team -

I'm in the final week of my c25k... i can't believe it! Monday night, I ran 2.5 miles in 50 minutes! sure, not fast, but 3 months ago, I couldn't even run for 30 seconds!! so i'm happy :)

MrsVegan00~ There are weekly challenge threads that go up at the beginning of each week that you can check up and try out.

IgetfitNStrongforme~ Thanks for the drink suggestion!

Bette k~ The Iowa Lt Governor's Challenge sounds really neat!

rosetta~ Good luck to you too!

Mommyofsix~ Any exercise is better than no exercise! Great job pushing yourself!

dcapulet~ Congratulations!!! That is awesome that you can run that much!

Today was another tiring day as we hiked into the woods again (roughly 2 miles round trip). I really just want to go home and take a nap right now, but I have to go to the chiropractor to have my shoulder worked on (I have a pinched nerve they’re trying to unpinch). This time of day is a really hard time for me as it has been a time when I normally eat a lot of junk food, so my cravings are a little crazy right now. I really need to find something to preoccupy myself with as I feel like I’m obsessing over food. I won’t be able to get on tomorrow, so everyone have a happy Thursday and I will check in on Friday!

So I've been having kind of a rough start to this whole challenge, not really losing very much, but I did a lot of thinking this weekend, and have made some changes to switch up things. I haven't gotten back into regularly exercising yet, but I have been fitting in 10 minutes of situps, leg lifts, pilates type stuff in here and there. My food has been on point since Sunday, and I'm anticipating a decent loss this week. I know that I've pretty much been standing in my own way: I know what works, I have the time/energy/money to do it, I've just been having a mental block. I've hopefully worked through it, and am looking forward to good things for the rest of the challenge...

KimL1214 - Cravings at certain times of day are my killers. I actually packed a whole bunch of snacks today to just keep at my office for those times a craving strikes. Way to go on the hiking too!

dcapulet - wtg on the c25k...I've started that thing a million times and never made it past a couple of weeks...awesome that you finished...:cheer:

Hey fellow Red-ones! Sorry I don't chat much, but I'm so glad you're all out there because I've said I'm going to do this thing and know that on Monday mornings I must report my results. So far, so good. Before I found this website, I was turned down from a TOPS group. They sent me home because their Park District meeting room had an occupancy issue. I was humiliated walking out of that room thinking, "what? I'm too fat to join a weight loss group?" At any rate, thanks again for being there and congrats to all of us for trying to improve our health!

I'll post who has used their two freebies up and all by Friday night, as some of you have used both already and need to be sure to weigh-in this next time or you are out of the challenge for winning anyway.

I can not believe it is already October 1st. The summer flew by but I think that Fall is going by even faster. My children are on Fall break so It will be a rough week keeping them busy and finding places for them to go. I wish I did not have to work and could stay home with them. Just not a financial option for us at this time. I actually make more and with the thought of college and helping the kids as they get older working for me is the only option. I guess I can look forward 33 years when I get to retire and stay home and still make money. Oh well.

I have been staying on plan somewhat lately. I yelled at my Dh lst night for eating one of my Skinny Cows. It made me so mad. he knows I allow my self those as a treat and he ate one anyway. I told him he eats another and it is all out war.

shea5
10-01-2009, 04:26 PM
JayTee - That is just aweful, there should have been another way for them to handle that

MommyofSix - I hate when my husband eats my diet treats, it drives me crazy!

We ate out last night, but I stuck to diet and did pretty well this morning too...but I think it's probably the hardest day for temptation. I work in an office where there are always fresh cookies being baked, and the smell is driving me crazy! Hanging strong, but tempted!

JayTee
10-01-2009, 04:53 PM
Mommyofsix: My daughter, who I just sent off to college (insert snivel here) would cut off my hand if I ate one of her skinny cows. I had to buy her a dorm fridge with a freezer compartment for her skinny cow addiction. (I secretly kept one treat here at home which reminds me of her every time I open the freezer door!) If you run out, I'll share!

Let's go RED...kick week three butt!

Linoleic Acid and Safflower Oil: Two Dietary Oils Proven to Burn Fat

Mon, 08/31/2009 - 09:00 — April

Natural Supplements | Clinical Study

Being overweight alters the way your body processes sugars, which can lead to a host of potentially life-threatening illnesses. But knowing obesity is dangerous doesn’t make losing the weight any easier. You may have heard that some dietary oils can help you trim extra inches, but are the rumors true?

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) and Safflower oil are being used as dietary supplements because clinical studies show that they reduce body weight and promote fat loss. A study published earlier this year in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition compared the effect of linoleic acid and safflower oil on weight loss in obese post menopausal women.

Researching Dietary Oils and Weight Loss
A total of 55 overweight, postmenopausal women from the Columbus area participated in the study.

•They were all clinically obese, each with a body mass index (BMI) of more than 30.

•Each participant took a total of 8 grams of linoleic acid or (2 tsp) safflower oil daily.

•The study ran for 36 weeks: two 16-week dieting periods separated by a 4-week resting period

How Well Did the Dietary Oils Work?
Linoleic acid did better at reducing participants’ all-over body fat, while safflower oil did better at reducing fat in the torso.

Safflower oil participants lost an average of 6.3 percent of their torso fat and gained 3 lbs of lean mass. Linoleic acid participants lost weight as well, but they didn’t add any lean mass. These effects occurred without any change in diet or exercise habits.

During the course of the study, the participants’ weight loss didn’t slow or stop, as usually happens to anyone who sets out to lose weight. The researchers suspect that people who take linoleic acid supplements for an even longer period of time could lose even more weight.

Why Did Participants Lose Weight?
Those who took safflower oil showed a 20 percent increase in the levels of adiponectin, a hormone that regulate fatty acid catabolism. Generally, losing weight greatly increases the amount of adiponectin found in your bloodstream. Participants who took linoleic acid didn’t experience any significant changes in their adiponectin levels.

Safflower oil lowered the levels of glucose in participants’ blood, as well as lowering their insulin resistance. Because both issues can be caused by excess stomach fat, safflower oil could have caused the reduction of glucose and insulin resistance by burning stomach fat.

Dietary Oils Are A Beneficial Supplement, Especially For Postmenopausal Women
Losing stomach fat can be especially tricky after menopause because of hormonal changes that lead to weight gain. Women gain more fat during this time, with much of their weight gain shifting to the stomach—a particularly dangerous location for body fat. Excess stomach fat can increase anyone’s risk of developing metabolic syndrome, a combination of medical disorders that increase the odds of developing cardiovascular disease or diabetes. According to the study “at a dose of 6.4 g/d, conjugated linoleic acid has a significant effect on lowering body weight and total adipose mass without altering lean tissue mass in obese postmenopausal women who are not also on a weight-loss diet or exercise plan”

Losing weight is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of developing other medical conditions. As the study shows, a daily dose of linoleic acid or safflower oil can help make the task a bit easier. Unlike many over-the-counter remedies, dietary oils are safe for just about anyone, making them a good way to help your body burn more fat.

The study concludes: “Supplementation with these dietary oils may be beneficial for weight loss, glycemic control, or both."

Hi All,

I'm having a serious problem with motivation. I am eating better but the idea of exercising just kills me. Also, I really want to drink more water but always "forget" and grab the soda. I really need to get a system in place that includes healthy diet, exercise and water.

Sorry for the whine. Hope you all have a great weekend.

10-02-2009, 09:57 AM
Amber I have periods of time where I find it real hard to be motivated. Life, works, kids all get in the way sometimes. I still have off days. But I honestly believe that everything has to become a habit. you have to consitantly drink your water and before you know it you are getting in your 64oz easy. I try to drink 32 oz before I get to work in the morning. I drink some with breakfast and rest on my drive in to work. At first you will pee all the time but that eventually gets regulated too. I also have good weeks of exercise and some weeks where I do not get hardly any. But what I have found is that I started walking. I pushed myself to walk further than I wanted everytime. Then I added in some short spurts of jogging and now I can really jog for the first time in my life. I slowly added in some strength training and began alternating with JillianMichaels 30 day shred and now I can make it through a work out without cheating and still feeling great. It take time. nothing is instant just take everything one day at a time. Before you know it you will see results!!!

Hope everyone is doing well and staying on plan!!! I have not weighed this week at all I am not going to way til each monday morning. I do not do well seeing a fluctuation so we will see how it goes.

JayTee~ That’s ridiculous! I’m sorry you had to go through that.

RangerChic~ Thanks again for doing everything!

MrsVegan00~ Vacations are always hard to come back from. No worries, you’ll get back on track.

Yesterday really sucked, but today has been a bit better. I had a skin tag removed from under one of my eyes which was pretty creepy as I could see the needles coming, razorblades coming, and cauterizer coming… I wasn’t as OP as I had hoped to be, but considering, I think I did pretty well. Hey Red Team. Just a quick fly by for now. But I just wanted to brag - my daughter passed the Illinois State Bar Exam!!! I am so very proud of her. She went to school, had 2 babies, worked, moved to Philly and passed the bar. She did it the hard way and I guess that makes me even prouder of her. Just bragging. Didn't really want anything else right now.

Igetfit - Thanks for the info. I'm going to check in to that stuff and see if it's something I may want to try.

I'll be back later. Stay strong and motivated everyone.

KimL124: You’re very welcome, I am now eating 2 tsp of Safflower oil a day since yesterday. I am not postmenopausal nor per but I bet it will work because of the 20 percent increase in the levels of adiponectin, a hormone that regulate fatty acid catabolism. Chiquita - that's wonderful!! :carrot:

OMG, guys. I've derailed. Not intentionally. Ugh. I'm hovering between 158 and 159. Not terrible, but still I was 157 last week and now I'm up a lb. I know exactly why too. I'm steadily overeating. I'm getting self-sabotagey again. I thought about it this morning and decided I'm going for a walk/run and cutting out certain foods from my plan to get back on track. What a downer. I don't think I'm going to be able to weigh in at 156 this weekend, unless I magically lose 2-3 lbs. :( I can't believe I was so in control of myself and my eating (and happy with the amount of food!) and now I'm constantly snacky (not TOM) and eating junk. We HAVE fruits in the house and plain NF yogurt and raisins - everything I used to eat for my snacks so what is my problem? ARGH! Anyway, thanks for listening!

Good morning everyone! I have been so bad about getting on these boards. I feel like I barely have time to do every day things..life can be so crazy.

I have had my ups and downs with dieting and exercising. I am hoping to be successful this week. I have been doing well so far with eating today (even resisted the homemade waffles DH made for the kids this am) and I just finished Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred.

CapeBreton - Just get back on track. I, too, have to learn the past is done and you can't change it all you can do is go forward.

Sunni - We have all been there! You can do this!

Chaquita - CONGRATS to you daughter. That is a great accomplishment!

Kim - Sorry for the surgery! I can;t imagine seeing all of those instruments coming at you! I hope you are doing better today!

I am going to try to pop in every morning and every evening to see how everyone is doing. Hopefully wen I pop in tonight I can share myt success for the day.

Well I make a gallon at a time, so boiled about 4 cups of the water and then steep all the tea bags for 15 minutes. When it's done steeping I pour the mixture back into the gallon jug along with the lemon juice and cranberry juice.

Jillian Michaels Weighs In

June 1st, 2009 3:53 pm

It’s a little odd seeing power trainer in anything other than workout wear. That, after all, is her trademark on The Biggest Loser, where she coaches and motivates contestants on a weekly basis.

A bestselling fitness and nutrition author, Jillian practices what she preaches. At age 12, she tipped the scales at 175, shedding pounds only after taking up martial arts a year later. Today, the 5-foot-2-inch star is 117 pounds of rock-hard muscle, thanks to a routine that includes the Brazilian martial art capoeira, kettle bells, running, yoga and biometric pull-ups. As she puts it, "I work my *** off!"

So how does she do it? Herewith, her tips for looking so fabulous day in and day out – and how to look hot before a big night out on the town.

Jillian’s Tricks of the trade when she has no time to work out: There’s no drinking whatsoever. A glass of wine at night, tequila shots, they go. I don’t get to have my organic peanut butter cups or eat as much, period.

If you’re going to trick, drink this: A margarita is 500 calories, so instead you can do the diet version that has 80 calories, with Patrón on the rocks, fresh lime and if you need it, a tiny splash of orange juice.

Tips for losing a dress size for a big date or event:

1. Take three to five days to prepare.

2. Drink a gallon of water a day with six tea bags of dandelion tea, all-natural cranberry juice and the juice of one lemon.

3. Eat asparagus and a little watermelon. The potassium helps flush water out.

4. No salt. Sodium-rich foods include cold cuts, most meat, anything processed.

5. Avoid tanning because the sun will dehydrate you. If you want color, go for a spray tan.

6. Work out.

7. Spend three 20-minute sessions in a sauna and sweat it out of your cells.

8. Avoid carbs.

9. Go to a spa and get a body wrap.

Well today is Sunday in SK. You might know that means today is my weigh in day. Drumroll please................. I weighed in this morning at 339.5lbs. That's a 4.5lb loss for this week alone!!

I'm happy with that number. Extremely happy since I know I had my foul up on one night, and I also lacked in my exercise this week. But thats a huge number compared to what I was expecting. So I am going to enjoy it and move on to week 4 starting....NOW! :)

Hi guys! I'm back from my 3 week holiday, so it's time to jump back in and start chatting.

I didn't lose a lot, but I didn't gain either, so I'm pretty happy about that. Particularly since it was a food fest most of the time. I made some good choices, and splashed out on some not-so-good ones as well.

Saw my mother for the first time in 12 months (she lives on the other side of the country) and she told me I looked amazing! Last time she saw me I was 12kg (25lb) heavier. She's never said anything like that to me before. It's always been passive-aggressive advice about how I need to be more careful about my health. So that was a nice motivator.

No personals today, sorry. I'll catch up here once I've caught up on my laundry! 5 of us from 2 weeks is a lot of dirty clothes. Yuck...

Hope you all are doing well. I did a Heart Walk 5k walk yesterday and it was great. Even feeling a bit sore in my legs today. Ha. Anyway, I'm staying very busy and wanted to come by to see how the team was doing. Keep your heads up and keep up the good work. You guys rock. Go red! :)

Hello all,

I lost 2.4 pounds, I am not sure why I did so well, because I was bad with my diet twice this past week. But I am not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. :carrot:

Hiya ladies. Sorry I have been MIA. My laptop crashed and I was reduced to getting online with my ipod. I finally just got my PC out of storage while the laptop is getting fixed so I can at least get online for the next few weeks.

Anyways, I am using a freebie this week. I have had TOM for 3 straight freakin weeks now and the scale is up this week again. I upped my calories this last week to try and help my body through this and get this weird TOM to go away, but the scale paid me back for those extra calories even more than the stupid TOM water gain I already got. I think TOM just ended today though, so am going to get back on regime today and I am really, really hoping for a big whoosh of weight to go away after these past 3 horrible weeks. So hopefully I will be able to really help our team in next weeks weigh in!
Well, hope everyone else is doing good and I promise to be more involved this upcoming week since I have internet again!

 girls!

I'm up this WI. It's totally my fault and I accept that. This week will be better! I restarted my SparkPeople account today and I plan on going to the gym at least 3x this week. I start training for my new job tomorrow! Wish me luck girls, the whole at home thing is new territory for me and I'm a little nervous. :^:

Hi all!

School and home have kept me SUPER busy. I'm taking a freebie this week: I didn't weigh in this morning. This was also the last week of my couch to 5k. So here's the plan for this week:

Run M, W, Fri
Weight: M, Thurs
Swim: Sun
Rest: Tuesday, Sat

I'm going to have to use my first freebie this week. I'm not sure what happened, I know I went off a little this weekend, but not to the extent that the scale is indicating. I did have a lot of salt, so I'm going to say it is water retention........I am definitely going to try that cranberry/lemon/dandelion stuff as soon as I get a chance.

Ok, I lost another lb, but that still puts me 0.5 over last week's weigh-in. Blast! I just gave myself a talking-to for next week and reassured myself that I'm at least heading downward again. So it's back to plan! I have a reception to attend the end of this month. I'm hoping to be at least 155 by then, ideally 152-153 so if I gain a couple of lbs (which WILL happen against my best intentions) it won't be THAT bad. :dz:

Good luck on weigh-in gals!!

I actually had a really great week food wise, except for some chips and salsa yesterday, so I'm not sure if I'm just retaining water from the salt, or if TOM is nearing (never sure on timing) or what is up...no loss at all. :( I do know I have to add in exercise, which I got bits and pieces of last week but nothing regularly scheduled...So this week I've got to get back on the treadmill and back to the pool. Plus I need to up my water; the cranberry drink sounds interesting, but just plain water is tasty enough for me...

Good luck on the weigh in everyone!!

Just popping in to say Hi to you all. Not much new with me. Trying my best to stay OP but I think the weekends are evil and should be banned!! I struggle so much when I'm at home as opposed to work where I can only eat what I bring. Oh well, I'll find my mojo and rock the weekends. I just hope I find it soon!!!

I like the idea of putting the scale away and only using measurements or how clothes fit to gauge my WL. But while I'm doing TBL challenge and have to WI so that is not an option right now. I'll just try not to dwell too much on the numbers for a while and see how that works for me.

In all honesty I'd like to lose 25 pounds by next October since I'm getting married on the 23rd. I figure in a year I can do that. Right???

Better get busy. Work is calling my name. Have a good Monday everyone. I'll try to check back in later in the day.

Had a smaller loss this week, but a loss none-the-less! I just saw that I was Red's Biggest Loser last week. That must mean a lot of people took it as a pass week. Also, it means I need to keep up my losses to help out the team! Let's start renewing our efforts and get back to those losses we're capable of!! We can do it, Red!

Another 0.4 loss for me- but at least it's going down & not up. Baby steps =, right?

Having a harder time staying on plan now that the weather is getting cooler. We had a dusting of snow this weekend. I'm drinking lots of hot tea to keep myself warm & full- but I'm craving carbs/hearty food like you wouldn't believe. I must be getting ready to hibernate!

I was really happy to see a 6lb. loss this morning as that means I not only got rid of what I gained last week, but also lost 3 more lbs.! Plus TOM is starting, so I’m pretty psyched! Happy Monday everyone! Let’s kick some serious blue butt!!! :hyper::cheer2::hyper:

I just wake up, I had taken the day off from volanteering as I was going to run some errands but my body said sleep. I slept for almost 14 hours, I never do that, but I feel relaxed and pretty dang great. Wow I see everyone is doing great at the weigh ins, hey every ounce lost is an ounce that will never come back. Congrats to all my team mates!

Kiml1214: I am glad to hear it wasn't anything serious, and that you are feeling well. I love Jillian Michaels tips as well, I first heard her give that receipe on her radio show and then a friend said the how toos where in that interview I posted. 6lbs, I think you might be our biggest loser! Congrats!!!! :woohoo:

Hi All,
Sorry everyone, I have a one lb gain this week. It's been hard to eat right and get my exercise in lately, but our schedual has been changed with Jon home. We are all in celebration mode for the next few weeks, but I'm working on getting it under control.

I'm not going to be able to do personals right now, but I am reading all the posts and want you to know I'm sending good thoughts everyone's way.
I hope everyone has a great week

For everyone who is struggling this week, as Jillian has said on her radio show and on TBL the body freaks out sometimes when losing weight and will hold water, remember the week two curse they always go on about on the show, this is it. Plus some of you have TOM.

I am down today so I am hoping for a good weigh-in tomorrow.

I have written this on all my threads today. NEVER QUIT!! Things go really slow for me and I get very aggravated, but I was 177.8 today. that's a number I never imagined seeing. If I can do it, anybody can. Mind over matter.
