This subject is personal to me. I was molested by Dad, as was my younger sister. My Mom doesn't care because she's still with him. I've battled and I am battling schizo-affective disorder and I blame this on him although research says parents are not to blame.

For those who'd like to read a little more on the Mackenzie Phillips article, here's a link (http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/23/mackenzie.phillips.oprah/index.html).

FoodObsessed - I'm sorry you had to go through that. Many, many . I'm assuming you live apart from your parents. Have you tried seeing a therapist? It might help you deal with your feelings better. I only say this because you sound angry in your post and you have every right to be, but you should work through those emotions. I wish you all the best. :)

Sunnigummi, I moved to the west coast because I couldn't take living with my parents anymore. Thanks for your love.

Thanks midwife. I talked to my Mom today and she's going to have her brother talk to me. I'd bet anything that he's going to tell me to come back home to MD.

Food obsessed,

I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I was sexually molested by my 1/2 brother when I was 5 years old. I spent a long time not telling anyone. And then I started slowly telling people when I was about 14. Over time I realized that I had nothing to be ashamed about, because I had done nothing wrong.

I encourage you to get into therapy to talk to someone. Talking about it, I find to be the most liberating thing. And you'll realize that bad things that happened to you at a young age don't need to dictate your life today. I am a successful, well adjusted, well educated, happily married woman with two great kids! My 1/2 brother, well, I don't want to put him down, but let's say he hasn't been so fortunate. And honestly, I don't hate him or hold on to anger towards him. I realize now that he (who was 16 at the time) was probably either A) acting out against me as a way of getting back at his father (my dad) or B) was probably abused himself by one of his mother's boyfriends/husbands, or C) both of the above. Luckily for me he never came to stay with us again after those few months those summers, so it wasn't an ongoing thing plaguing my childhood.

I don't know whether the schizo-affective disorder is related to this. I have heard sexual abuse can trigger certain mental disorders, but I haven't had any experience with that. A good therapist can help you though...

Good luck!

Thanks amkenkent. It only happened once, but my sister reported hers at the time, police and social workers got involved. Also Mom was pregnant with her third and hopefully last child.
