Hi everyone! I'm 16 years old, 5'3, and 157 pounds. I have high testoterone levels and have been told that I'm borderline PCOS which means it is like IMPOSSIBLE for me to lose weight but I know the secret is out there somewhere! I exercise 3-6 days a week and eat a healthy vegetarian diet which has gotten me about 10 pounds lighter in the past 2 years which is nice but I would like a little more. Does anyone have any info or advice about losing weight with PCOS?? Thanks. :-)

No, it's not IMPOSSIBLE! That's the awesome news. With PCOS you want to limit your refined carbs and sugars. Eat whole grain bread instead of white, brown rice instead of white, sweet potato instead of white. Are you seeing a trend? Heh.

There are a couple of plans that work for people with PCOS. South Beach has been quite successful for some. I do a combination of the Insulin Resistance Diet and calorie counting. Some swear by the glycemic index. The big thing is that it isn't impossible.

I will say that Metformin (aka glucophage) gives me a little edge in my weight loss. Before I took it I hit plateau after plateau and it was frustrating. Now I still lose slowly, but I have yet to have a stall that wasn't of my own doing. However, if you're borderline PCOS, that means your levels are pretty low and you probably can reduce your PCOS symptoms by losing weight alone, and won't even need meds.

My biggest advice? Banish the words IMPOSSIBLE, CAN'T, and FAILURE (or any variation of that word). If you don't give up you can't fail! :)

I've lost 150 lbs and I have PCOS. It isn't always easy but definitely possible.
