Default 8lbs GAINED OVERNIGHT!?!

Okay so I’ve been doing really well.. lost 2lbs so far this week then yesterday awoke with rather bad stomach pains. I figured I was probably pre menstrual and went through my day normally, ate and drank sensibly and went for a long walk.

Well, come yesterday evening my upper abdomen had become severely bloated... and when i say serverely I mean it. I look like I’m 7 months pregnant!

When I woke up this morning i felt in little less pain but still looked very bloated... and when I weighed myself this morning I’d risen 8lbs!!!!

I mean that's mathematically impossible isn't it? I would have to have eaten like 30,000 calories!?!

Has anybody else suffered from this? Is it just waterweight? Or should i be worried? Please help!.. it's rather upsetting!

oh just to add: i'm not pregnant!

I've just been to the doctors because the pain was getting alot worse... He thinks i have a form of gastroesophageal reflux disease.

My bet is on gallstones, and if the swelling doesn't go down or the pain returns, see a different doctor (the guesses from the first one sound pretty lame). You could have a blocked duct.

It is good you went to the doctor. Anytime you have pain and swelling like that, doctor or the ER if it gets too bad for you.

My boyfriend's mother had severe swelling/bloating, very painful for her, anything she ate would bring it on. She thought she had IBS (that is what they told her she had for years), but it turned out she had problems with her colon and intestines so she required surgery to repair the damage there. I think what changed as for years she suffered, is she demanded they help her and do testing as she was in so much pain she had, had enough one night as she went to the ER. Now she is fine, eats anything she wants, and does not swell up or suffer anymore. So, it could be anything and hopefully you're getting some testing done to pinpoint what it is so you can get yourself healed.

My boyfriend, on the other hand, had gallstones and had almost the same symptoms.

If you feel like you need a second opinion totally get one.

*hugs*

Ouch I had gallstones and had surgery in Jan 08. It felt like this: Trying to lay down on my back to go to sleep at night felt like someone literally had their foot underneath the right side of my back and laying on top of it. There was no way to get comfortable, or any relief at all, it was painful no matter what I did. Over Thanksgiving 2007 I did not sleep for 4 days as I could not lay down or get comfortable and every time I ate I would be sick to my stomach and feel it gagging in my throat and that green feeling of nausea. Surgery was very excellent, 4 incisions, the largest in bellybutton, no scars its completely healed and just tiny little marks now you wouldnt see if not looking for them, abolutely pain free 100% since that day - it was like night and day - issue completely gone after galbladder removal and it took I would say a full week to be able to get around again and sit at my desk at work. The first 3 days it was very difficult to move and Lortab made it so much better. And they glued the incisions so didnt even need stitches which I thought was fabulous. Good luck to you, gallstones are no joke it real sincere pain!!! But it can be corrected just like that.. Hang in there!!

I too had gallstones, but my symptoms were the exact opposite. I began losing weight at an alarming rate and it felt like someone was sticking a hot knife into my sternum. As Noellema said, surgery is simple and recovery is fast. I had three tiny incisions (no stitches, just butterfly-bandages), spent a day on Vicodin and within a week was back to 100%.

My boyfriend lost weight at an alarming rate as ewll, simply because he couldn't eat. I mean the man ate crackers for like two months. However, he would get bloated and swell up too, he was in a lot of pain. He also recovered fast though.

It is good you are feeling better now i hope.
