You've come to the right place.

Find a forum and settle in.

If you don't have a scale--a really good way to get a baseline for your "before" is to take measurements and take a picture. A scale would be good though--you don't need to get one of those which are supposed to measure fat! (They apparently send an electric current through your body. I didn't like the sound of that too much!) A good digital will do.
