Default Best Suggestions for Mexican?

A good friend of mine is having a birthday party tonight at a Mexican restaurant. And a local one at that, that doesn't provide nutrition info.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for a healthier vegetarian Mexican option? Or is my only real option to eat beforehand?

I was going to suggest fajitas, but I can't help you with the vegetarian thing.

I would go with a salad with grilled chicken breast and take my own dressing. Ask them to put cheese or tortilla strips on the side.

I wouldn't do fajitas--skirt steak is usually high in fat.

Veggie fajitas would work if they have them - could just eat the veggies and skip the tortillas.

Thanks, Onderchic for the link - it's a great list!

What I tend to have at a mexican restaurant is chicken tortilla soup and a dinner salad with salsa for my dressing. I stay far away from the chips (literally-- I will make sure I can't reach them). I drink ice tea so I'm not tempted by alcohol-induced reduction of inhibitions! I am happy and satisfied after my meal and don't feel deprived. If you are vegetarian, you could ask for the soup without the chicken. Have fun!

And remember Mexican cooks use a lot of lard in frying. I was going to suggest Taco salad with no sour cream but it wouldn't be vegetarian.

I eat chicken fajitas quite often, with corn tortillas if possible. I degrease the chicken a little with paper napkins, roll it in a tortilla with salsa and I'm good!
