My bf is trying to get Saturday night off so his son can spend the weekend here and not at his parents.

That is all for now. Please return to your regularly scheduled program.

It looks like a ray of hope! I hope everything works out. Maybe the BF just needs you to stand up for yourself a bit so he realizes you are a person and not a doormat.

I'm glad he's making an effort. Sometimes small changes lead to big improvements.

You know, I was thinking about your work-lack of transportation issue. There's several companies in our area that hire home workers for mail sorting, computer work, etc. Might be something in your area that is similar?

Awww you're the bestest Abby

I'm not sure about the job thing or even how I would go about finding out? :|

The son coming this weekend sounds like a step in the right direction.

I would start at the state workforce website. Just use a search engine - I'm sure they have one. In Iowa you can register on-line to apply for jobs, but you can search before you even register. When you register you tell them the skills you have - like obviously computer skills, etc. - and then you get notified when there are jobs that fit your skills.

The chamber of commerce or whatever might have information on the companies in your area, too.

So how old is his son? If all is a go maybe you can ask about the kids fave food, activities etc. I am sure cooking his fave meal will be a hit!

His son is 12

Oh and just from conversations with my bf over the years, I have already gotten the impression that his son loves cheese pizza and pepsi the best..imagine that ;) :D

I thought I would add this for any skeptics, I actually did over hear him talking to his ex wife about bringing his son here Saturday if he can get that night off. He will know tonight so I should know when he gets home from work. I sure hope he can get it off, I am anxious and excited to meet his kid :)

Praying all works out tonight! My oldest is a 13 yr old boy! They are an adventure to say the least. He's a good kid keeps me on my toes! He could be a great bike riding partner!

Eeek Michelle.. I'm excited for you!!!

Is there a possiblity if you do meet the son that on dad's weekends from now on, even when he has to work, for the boy to come to your house and stay with you while BF is working?

Onederchic
09-10-2009, 09:23 PM
I am thinking yes, Sommer because my bf said to me that I could be becoming a babysitter, though his son is not a baby but you get the picture :)

findingfawn
09-10-2009, 09:31 PM
I think that might help with your self esteem alot. Did you ever get an ad in freecycle for a bike? Also, you said you live in a little community, maybe they have a bulliten board you can post a wanted ad on? Heck, you may even be able to put a work wanted ad for babysitting on there if the BF would let you sit at your place, or you could go to theirs right there in your park! It would help you pick your head up if you were making some money of your own. I know if I wasn't raising/schooling my 4 kids, I could never handle being a kept woman, it would drive me nuts!

findingfawn
09-10-2009, 09:33 PM
Oh, and he's 12.. and a boy... ummm yep I think sitter fits hehe. My oldest is a 10 year old boy, and he definately needs a babysitter.

Maybe you can suggest he talk with his son and see if his son would be willing to try staying with you while he works.

Just remember, at the age he is at he is going to see "step mommy" as a threat most likely, so it may not go over great. Offer to play games with him (video, board, card) and you will most likely get along great. (My 10 year old would give me the mom of a lifetime award if I would only play video games with him... sucks to be him, I hate them..lol).

I bet it will happen soon. I don't have children, but I just spent time with my cousin and her three girls. I really enjoyed doing all the kids stuff (maybe a little too much, heh heh). Cheese pizza, that's a staple in Brooklyn! Guess it's a staple in pretty much all of the US, ha! (but we like to say ours is especially good)

Sorry it didn't work out this weekend, but it sounds like a door has been opened. Keep working on loving yourself- every day, the same way you've lost 140 pounds (!!!)- and doors will keep opening. I'll stop now before I head into some ridiculous metaphor jungle.

I do think the idea of babysitting is a good one, so you can earn some money for yourself. I've also cleaned houses for extra money. I hate cleaning my own place, but cleaning someone else's is less of a chore, especially if I'm getting paid. Are you friendly with any of your neighbors? Maybe you could catch a ride when someone goes shopping or to the library. I don't have a car, either, and while I live in a city where a lot is walkable, sometimes I could use a lift. I have a hard time asking others for help, but I'm always amazed how many people will offer me rides or the use of their car when they learn I don't have a car. People really do like to help others- it gives them a good feeling to say, yes! I can help you!

Thank you, pucedaisy

I haven't really interacted with any of the neighbors. Maybe I will.

You definately should! We live in the country, most people here on the mountain are actually family of hubby's but we are "friendly" with everyone else. We don't go visiting or anything, but we all wave when we see each other or say hi.

Now that I can't imagine ;)

Once you start to put yourself out there some, it will get easier. Remember, you have lost 140 pounds!!! You are superwoman and have nothing to be ashamed of, hold your head high, walk to the mailbox and say hi to who ever is there... it will be a start :)

And you could take in ironing , women who work are always behind in ironing, and most men can't iron and may be sending all their shirts to the dry cleaner to be ironed. Find out how much they charge and do it for a little less. They would bring it to you so there is no transportation problem.
