Looking Good, Feeling Great - Workout Clothes?

I know you don't need to wear anything fancy, but I was wondering what everyone wears for their workout clothes? I've just started walking again and am seriously considering doing some beginner's jogging in the next few weeks. I'm not really all that self-conscious anymore, but I feel a little ridiculous and uncomfortable in jeans, don't care for sweatpants (which won't do in this heat anyway), and I don't think I'm ready to wear shorts in public yet. :dizzy: Did I just run myself out of options? I mean, I'm cool with wearing a t-shirt when I work out but don't know what to do about my bottom half when I go outside.
I feel a little out of touch anymore. I don't get out much, I don't see what people are wearing . . . I have no clue what's in style now and feel so lost in the plus sized sections of the stores (I'm about at a 22 at the moment). Do people still wear those track pants with the stripes on the sides? I just want to feel comfortable and not be self-conscious, but maybe I'm over-thinking all this. :?:

I hear ya about the shorts, no can do for me either. I like track pants when I work out, they make me feel like I'm Work-Out-Girl or something. In the summer I wear the short ones that cut off right under the knee and in the winter I wear the long ones. They're stretchy material but much looser than leggings of course. I only wear black ones but I don't mind if the stripe is white or blue or pink or whatever.
On top I wear my sports bra and a tank top. I can't wait to lose a little more weight so I can get cure matching workout clothes. Shorts in particular!
Try going to a place like Dick's or the Sports Authority. They sell tons of this stuff there.

I like yoga pants, capri length. No irritating riding up like with shorts, and no thigh rubbing, plus not too tight.

I absolutely love Target for workout clothes. I'll often stop by the workout clothing dept when I'm just in there for something else to see if they have any new colors or patterns. Wearing colorful spandexy running tops for my jogs makes me feel more confident, as though I really AM a runner.

I've got several pairs of the capri and long jogging pants from Addidas and Nike. They're very comfy and wash up well (aka don't shrink!). I also have picked up some Addidas, New Balance and Nike wicking shirts/tanks - they're great because they do keep you cool and dry. I usually buy mine at TJMaxx or Marshalls because I'm a tightwad.

I second Target as a good source of workout stuff. When I was at my heaviest, I bought some workout pants in the men's department but they have a great selection in women's as well. Wearing real workout clothes makes me feel more like an athlete when I am out doing my walking/jogging. Like others mention, I like the capri length. They offer lots of coverage, but they're not big heavy pants.

Capris with a slight flare at the hem are nice. They give you coverage but really are cooler than full length pants. And I love stripes on the side. Also, I find t-shirts with a bit of shape make a *world* of difference compared to traditional boxy, big-sleeved tees.

The (ahem) Men's section of K-Mart has black and grey and navy inexpensive long-cut shorts and nice pants. I buy a pack of Hanes T-shirts or tanks.
I'm currently about a size 18, and I'm wearing a men's Large just fine. Right now, K-mart men's workout shorts are on clearance at my location for $1.50. can't beat that paired with hanes T-shirts for the gym.
Ditto on Target - they have decent, yet inexpensive workout clothes. I am also a capris or compresson bike short fan, they don't chafe or ride up. My only additional advice would be to stay away from cotton. Cotton holds the moisture in and chafes, in my experience. I would advise non-cotton, wicking material (like dry-fit), they are much more comfortable than cotton. Target has workout clothes in that kind of material.
Also - if you are considering jogging, invest in a well-fitting, supportive bra top and good running shoes. The best place to be fitted for running shoes is a running specialty store. That costs a bit more, but good shoes can prevent injury so consider it an investment in your feet, ankles and knees!

These running capris are awesome http://www.danskin.com/runningtight-9789.html and on super-sale right now. I workout in these nearly all the time for both Run/Bike etc. They compress enough to cut down on the jiggle, and prevent that lower leg squish out the shorts and have a handy little pocket on the back for keys/money etc.
The XL are pretty forgiving room wise... as a comparison I'm wearing the M size and I'm a few sizes larger then the sizes listed so they are very forgiving.
They lasted much longer then my target c9 running capris (better material) and they are a steal at this price! Do a web search for a Danskin coupon they are usually out there and free shipping over 75 I think. Oh here is a coupon for 15% until the end of the month: PUMPKIN
I'd get more but I have 5 pairs now. Hehe.

Definitely yoga pants! Lululemon! I'm a size 22 and I can still wear the lululemon pants.
I absolutely love them!
And I got an Enelle sports bra, super supportive. It makes me a lot less self concious when jogging.

I picked up my favorite workout pants at Walmart for $13. They're Danskin black relaxed fit yoga pants. They are comfy.
I second getting a fitted T-shirt, the view of my boobs and tummy during downward facing dog is no bueno.

I'm also a Target girl, there's always something good and cheap on clearance! I also have capri sweatpants/yoga pants from Walmart, Ross, Marshalls, and TJ Max!
Tweetlebeetle - LOL at the no bueno stomach view - I'm the same, but I need to find smaller shirts since a medium men's shirt is baggy on me now and I have no smalls and all of MY t-shirts are nice ones that I don't want to sweat in lol. Should I just tie my shirts with a rubber band in the back?

I love Old Navy yoga pants. They are by far my favorite. I am a size 22 and the xl from the store fit perfectly. They also sell an xxl in the store or you can order them online. For summer I am most comfortable in the Old Navyyoga capris.

Lululemon for me too! They are SOOOO expensive...but, they last forever and they make me look about 10 lbs. thinner. Super comfy and they can be worn about town and still look good! :) I'm a size 16, but they still fit me great!

I wear long black pants and whatever tshirt I have with me in my suitcase. (I'm always on the road). I prefer pants to capris because I want to be hot...I sweat more.

My warm-weather workout attire includes something I never ever thought I would be comfortable wearing: a running skirt/skort. I can't do anything cardio in shorts (chafing, riding up) and I wanted some cool and comfy for my 5k, somehow I stumbled onto running skirts. I bought mine from athleta (now owned by GAP) and ONCE saw them at meijer (I didn't snatch it up and I'm kicking myself). runningskirt and skirtsports also carry them. The skirt plus fitted shorts combo is just AWESOME.
For sports bras, I bought a combo pack of adidas from Costco and I really like them.

I have to admit that although I do own a few of the tops from the new techno materials that are supposed to keep you dry I really prefer wearing cotton. The "dry" materials often feel like plastic to me - I am little nuts in this respect. I prefer to work out in tank tops with racer backs (they also keep me cooler than short sleeved T's). At the end of summer, I usually buy a truckload in cheaper clothing stores, like Suzy Shier (I am in Canada). This summer, they were 3 for $10 - that's hard to resist. I like to have a good supply as I wait till my washer is full. Finally, I think I have enough. I love them in black as I wear black pants. My workout pants are from Winners (a Canadian version of TJ Maxx) and the tops are from Suzy Shier or similar stores (although not always they are such a bargain).

BF's shirt and undies is my sexy indoor outfit. When I work out outside, I prefer a comfy leggings and stretched shirt. Comfort and mobility is my priority in choosing clothes.

I actually like the danskin section at walmart, its inexpensive and I like the feel of the capri or cropped pants . . . . add a tank top and a light hoodie and Im good to go! Makes me feel like working out when I put them on too, so that's a bonus.

I totally want to get some workout clothes! I've been working out in tights, a long-sleeved black top (I think it's a polyester blend), a bra and panties. Like an earlier poster said, I like to sweat, and since I'm so damn cold all the time I have to be covered as much as possible or I just wont sweat at all.
I went Christmas shopping today and saw some really cute stuff at Target. But I was with my bf and we were not shopping for me so I didn't stop to investigate. haha But doing JM's 30DS out in the tights everyday since September has taken it's toll. They have a nice run in them now. I have to break down and buy a replacement. Hopefully something tight yet allowing maximum flexibility that will make me good and sweaty. Keep the suggestions coming I would love something more durable than tights. :D
=================================================
I went to Walmart last night and got some Danskin crop pants to exercise in. I didn't plan on it, but I looked in the fitness clothes area and saw they were just $8. The package also read that they retain heat and wick moisture, I couldn't pass it up. I wore them for my Shred last night and they were great except they felt a little looser than I like my clothes when I work out. They fit perfectly, by that I mean it felt like I wasn't wearing anything and I like just a bit of resistance. I guess because I've always been so fat I'm just used to clothes being a little tight! lol They were also falling down a little when I was doing jumping exercises.
The pants were in a package much like tights are sold so I didn't bother asking if I could try them on, but I held up different Danskin bottoms that were not in that kind of packaging to see which size I would need. I settled on Medium which actually say are size 8-10. But I'm a 14 right now and would probably feel better in their size Small.
Just FYI for anyone thinking about getting some. You might want to try them on first. Besides that they're awesome though! My bottom half definitely stayed drier than my top half and I was equally as warm. I wear a long-sleeved poly/spandex shirt for now but I might invest in a top to match my new pants.

It's been pretty difficult getting some decent work-out clothes that actually fit me and don't make me look like a squeezed in sausage!
I now managed to find a black, long, dry-fit pants. Flared and a bit loose. Two wicking men's fitness shirts, a really good bra, and thermo underwear (really needed them this morning) and a Nike wind/water tight jacket.
I still need some new shirts for the summer and a capri.
Marjolein
When I'm dressed to work out, I look like a true New Yorker or perhaps somewhat of a Goth. Nothing beats black. Nothing. Once you wear black, you never go back. It minimizes lines, bumps, bulges. It softens sweat stains. And I don't care if it washes me out. ****, I flush when I exercise, so some washing out would be good. It's all black for me. Black pants. Black sports bra. Black shirt. Any time I buy a color other than black, I regret it later. My typical outfit is black capris or compression shorts &, sadly, a colored t-shirt, since I need to wear out all my non-black shirts. I can't wait till all my colored t-shirts are destroyed so that I can revert to complete blackness, blackness everywhere.
My sourcing is all over the place, ranging from discount stores like Marshall's and TJ Maxx, thrift shops, eBay, clearance sales at Lands End & LL Bean & etc.

It takes all kinds ;)
I love my colors. They are practically as flattering as makeup, and for me, black always fades and looks old quickly.

I wear Nikes and Champions brands because they're not restricting and it breaths easier.
For shoes, I wear Nike cross training shoes which give a good spring and bounce when doing high impact exercises.

Yogi or comfortable mostly cotton pants (black or gray), a colorful t-shirt, and New Balance shoes. Basically something I'm really comfortable in.

For anybody interested, they're on sale this week until next Thursday (1/14) for $12! I picked up my first pair the other day and I love them! They are super comfy and stay where they're supposed to. All their other workout gear is on sale too, including sports bras and running tanks, shorts and capris (And no, i don't work there, lol).

Wow, this is all such helpful info. I just joined a gym and feel uncomfortable as well in big tees and sweatpants. Besides they are so hot. I will check out the yoga pants at old navy today as a matter of fact. I would love to find a good sports bra. I've only looked in Walmart but they don't have one big enough that has any support. I just wear a regular bra for now, but wish I could find a good supportive sports bra to hold the girlz up and compress all the side/underarm/back fat in! hahahaha

The problem I have w some workout pants is that I am petite -- Target DOES have the cutest workout clothes , but I can never ever find workout pants in PETITES . The only places I have found decent workout pants in petite are
JC Penney and Koh's. Walmart used to have some good workout pants in Petite sizes , but not anymore :(
