Hey everyone.. I have gotten the Biggest Loser Designer Whey Protein Powder and I have to say when I was inputting the info into my SparkPeople I was kind of shocker to see that there are more carbs(7g) then protein(6g) ... is this odd to anyone but me.. or am I just showing my true colors as a newbe to the whole carb vs. protein thing lol

Hey, i aint' a carb counter but I thought I would chime in with the info from the protein powder I use.
One scoop , which is what I use to make a 12oz glass, there's 26g of protein and 3g of carbohydrate

In my opinion a protein powder should have mainly protein. If I want to add carbs to my protein shakes I'll add fruit (which I usually do). I've got two different ones I use, but for an ~100 cal serving they have:
#1 (ISO XP) 23.8g protein, .7g carbs, .2g fat
#2 (unflavoured) 19.2g protein, 1.7g carbs, 2.1g fat
My fav is the ISO XP, which I get from a friend. The unflavoured one is a good back-up, and I'll toss it into baked goods and (don't laugh) jello and/or pudding to make popsicles in the summer.

From my pantry:
Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein: 24g protein, 3g carbs
Biochem Sports 100% Whey Protein: 20g protein, 4g carbs
Bally total fitness Whey Protein: 22g protein, 3.5g carbs
Ultimate Nutrition Whey Protein: 23g protein, 2g carbs
So, yup, your stuff may be a meal replacement powder rather than a plain protein supplement.

aghhhhhh...disturbing..here i thought this would be a great way to wor in the extra protein i have been wanting.. grrr I would have thought that the BL would have a more "on the ball" product when they are calling it Designer Whey Protein...:?: Now I am depressed.. lol it tastes great too in water (raspberry flavored..lol) AND 40 cals. per scoop.. hmmm am going to have to check out the healthfood store and see what they have, but this is a small town and unfotch the stock is not always stellar and the closest GNC is like an hour and a half away..
sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh thanks ladies!

You can order many of these on the internet.

I think I can help explain it a little. If you're doing protein shakes, with regular protein powder, then I'd expect to see more like the numbers that the others listed in their powders. I knew that I've used Designer Whey brand before and it was in that general area, so I looked it up on their website. You have bought something more like the Kellogg's Protein water. Something like a Kool-Aid with protein? It has 6 grams of protein, and the 6 carbs are all fiber, which are essentially a zero carb effect because the body won't digest fiber. So look at this as a 40 calorie water with a boost of fiber and protein - which many people probably tend to lack some of when trying to diet. So it's still got benefits. :)

ok, for all you protein people : ) I have a question. The only time I ever tried one of those whey proteins I was up all night with sever stomach cramps. Gave the rest of the container to my sister, and she had the same problem. Did we do something wrong?

No, not necessarily. Some people do have problems with some proteins. I've never had, but I know people who do. If you're interested in getting another, try a store that has individual servings for sale - that way you don't have to buy a big container that you can't use.

Ditto - was it egg protein? I've heard it can cause more problems than whey or soy.

Than you Jennifer 3FC I actually did that last night.. did some further digging into it and came to the same conclusion as you did.. and I am good with that.. and it tastes great so its a nice boost to my water each day to get it all in..lol although I put it in a 16oz. bottle because I think it would be too much in just 8oz. but I do like it alot and now that I am clear on all points I am not worried about it...gives me a nice boost! thanks again everyone:hug:
