Featherweights - Featherweights Plan and Chat in September

It is, indeed, the last day of August. Time to start planning for September.
I had an interesting conversation one day this summer. DH, SIL and I were just sitting around talking. I don't remember any direct quotes but the gist was about responsibility. More importantly, things that are not my responsibility.
I am not responsible for the staff shortage at work. However, I am responsible to make sure I am healthy and strong enough to do my job. Therefore, missing buying groceries, skipping exercise and short sleeps because I'm working 12 days in a row with a few 12 hour shifts thrown in ... is counter productive all around.
My best offering to my workforce is a healthy, happy me ... for my shifts. The shifts, of the rotation, I was hired to fill.
I cannot plan a health-path for myself if I allow life to drag me by the nose into 'who-knows-what' tomorrow.
The upshot of all that longwindedness? The first day of September is as good a time to start as any. I must learn balance. There are 24 hours in each day. Eight for my shift, lots for sleeping properly and some left over for eating properly and exercising. Things happen, yes they do, however ... on most of my days there 24 hours to fill with my obligations. Not some I've assumed, not some I feel obligated to fill ... my obligations.

Go Susan!!
Well, I came back from Spain yesterday to a letter from the hospital saying I had to go to have a broken molar taken out under GA. I had been expecting it and had actually had to cancel TWO such appointments already - one because I had a chest infection and the second because they scheduled it while I was away, even though I had told them my holiday dates.
They had been trying to contact me while I was away to confirm this one, even though I had rung up and told them AGAIN that I was away till the 31st August. Stupid people. So they rang my mum and she said I would go, although she was a bit nervous when I got back how I would take it. But it's OK. It's not a nice thing to come back to but at least it will be over. And a day of semi-starvation is a good way to kick start my post-vacation diet.
Before we went away I had actually seen 129.4 on the scale!! But then I put on a few pounds when I relaxed and I think it went up to about 133. This morning it was 141 so I put on 8 lb while I was away, but 11.4 from my previous low.
That's pretty much what I had reckoned actually so I wasn't too disappointed. It was great though - I actually wore bikinis. In public!! THe worst thing is, my face and boobs actually look better at this weight, but my belly doesn't. So I can either have a healthier looking face and bigger boobs AND a big fat wobbly belly, or a flat belly, gaunt face and saggy empty boobs! I told my boyfriend I couldn't have bigger boobs AND a flat belly and he sulked! When we met I was still breastfeeding so I was a 34F and I went down to a 34C so he feels a bit short-changed in that department - lol!
I also haven't been able to run fo four weeks due to an injury, and then 2 weeks holiday so my legs are all flabby too. I had planned on doing a 10-miler on 10th October but I'm really not sure I'll be able to train up for it in time. I might look for another 10K instead.
This was me at the beginning and end of our holiday - browner but 8 lbs heavier!!
http://www.cheapsheetmusic.co.uk/bikinismall1.jpghttp://www.cheapsheetmusic.co.uk/bikinismall2.jpg
So, now my initial goal is an even 10 lbs - which takes me back to my maintenance range (128-132), and then I would like eventually to get to 125 for a possible special event next summer - more on that one in a few days hopefully! I tend to lose holiday weight fairly quicly so it shouldn't take too long to be back in my size 4 jeans again!

You go Susan :cheer:
Robsia :welcome: back ... You look amazing in both pics really, but there is a bit of a difference... Hopefully those 8lbs are only water weight and they will go away quickly, I'm sure they will, you seem determined to have it so...
Lots of things going on in September for me... I'm doing a 10k in Montreal on the 13th, I confirmed this only a couple of weeks ago, so I am really not ready, I'll probably walk most of it. My friends are I are doing it for the fun of it... The finish line is the Olympic stadium in Montreal, just that fact makes it all the more exciting :carrot: .... Then the weekend of the 24th I am meeting up with some GFs in Asheville NC for a fun weekend, I'm really looking forward to that gettogether...
So I must stay on task this month  ... I am determined to lose at least 8lbs :tantrum: if it kills me.....
Gotta get working, see yas!

Good morning!
I gained 7 pounds on vacation and they are not washing away!
In all honesty ... we were so busy for a few days before we left, that I have no idea how much of that is vacation weight. And it really doesn't matter because it puts me toooo far away from goal.
I have made a very modest exercise goal for September. The last two times I tried an exercise ticker, I failed miserably. This time, I should be able to outdo it.
I have bra's in two sizes. The ones I'm wearing now are just almost not really big enough. My goal ones are much cuter ... and only have one letter ;)

Robsia - I see you're English but I trust those size 4 jeans are American size 4s not British?!! Is size 4 our size 6 or 8? You look good in both pics but I think you look great in th second - probably due to the hair and the tan. 8lbs is never going to be real unless you did nothing but eat. Actually, if you're anything like me............
Ilene - I think it's only fitting that you end up in an olympic stadium. Tis as it should be...;)
Susan - I almost wish I had you're problem. My chest stopped growing almost as soon as it started and no amount of overindulgence seems to affect it!
Well I had an odd weekend. It was a bank holiday here so we returned to work today. I was fine yesterday but I was awful (yet again) at the weekend. I have lost weight this week but it was pathetic so I'll weigh again at the weekend to see if the loss is worth updating my profile over. I certainly couldn't be bothered today!
In all honesty I'm only semi-committed. I'm just concentating on having more good days than bad and figure that if I do I'll clock up a really slow rate of loss which is better than nothing.

It's British size 8 - although I had to get my 10s out when I got back!!
You look good in both pics but I think you look great in th second - probably due to the hair and the tan.
Thank you - but you can't see the wobbly belly!! ;)

Food has been so-so today, I'm soooo hungry these days , I eat, I'm fine then an hour later I could eat again,I don't, it's very annoying ....

Hi  new here. I am 2 lbs from my initial goal of 165 and soon as I reach that I will be going for another 10. So I guess this place suits me just fine :o. So Excited to be here. So I am doing pretty well over all. I just celebrated a birthday this past monday (even celebrations started on friday) and I managed not to gain an ounce, at least according to my scale. We shall see for sure tonight at WW's
Ilene - your race ending in the olympic stadium is awesome!!! Good Luck.
Robsia - You look great either way but trying to lose those added 8lbs should be no biggie due much of it being water weight from sodium and such. Wow wee size 4....that sounds so nice....*dreaming*
Doughnut - I understand what you mean. I am like that sometimes. It really can get tiresome, but I would rather half commit than not try at all.

Welcome Ashlan, what a pretty name and happy belated birthday too :hb:
Today was good for me ran/walked because it was hot but I was out there for 52 minutes... Food was ok too...

Yesterday was pretty ok. I stayed on track with food so that is always a plus and I ran 4.5 miles. Managed to stick it out at 168 at WI this week. I am not changing my ticker back because I know by Saturday I will back at 167. I know my 168 attributed to lots sodium this past week.
Anywhoo - I set my September goal for 162 lbs making that an even 6 lbs.....but secretly I wouldn't mind seing a flat 160.
Ilene - Thnks. 52 minutes running in hot weather feels more like 52 hours...LOL> WTG

Good morning!
Well, well, well ... I seem to have got the exercise thing going but have not yet vanquished the eating thing. And accordingly, the scale is climbing. Yup, even since I got home from vacation.
Yesterday, I ordered our first Good Food Box. Today, I have beets to put in the freezer. The local produce is getting to be very bountiful and wants to be in my house ;)
Maybe things are heading in the right direction.

Robsia -- you look fantastic in both pics! I've always wanted to tan, just get sunburned instead LOL
Ilene -- 10K in Montreal sounds amazing!
Ugg ... I'm just dragging this week. I thought I would be motived with the beautiful fall weather. While I've been good about diet and exercise my heart/motivation has just not been good. I'm hoping after sleeping in this morning I'll feel better -- slept like 12 hours the last two nights so I may have just been wiped out.
Happy Labor Day weekend!

Good morning!
Robsia- nice pic, you look healthy and happy. I have the wobbly tummy too, such a drag. Toning is what I need and I'm like others, half committed to it, somewhat like Donut :)
10k in Montreal! nice one Ilene :carrot:
Susan, back home you'll get on track again quickly especially with the yummy fresh produce :)
Ashlan, nice to meet you.
Jayjay-sleep has a wonderful way of revitalizing us, I hope you're feeling better quickly.
I'm keeping busy this labour day weekend, we're putting in a new bathroom floor, so I've got painting and cutting and cleaning to do. It's going to look so new and clean :carrot:
Have a great weekend

Hello All, I'm a little behind. I had family in last weekend and sort of fell off course for a few days - sorta had a vacation without going anywhere, including eating out a lot! I was bored to death with running/jogging, but a few days ago, I discovered our new cable company has "ExerciseTV On Demand" which is awesome! There's so many choices and you just have to pick one and play it (and of course DO IT!) So now I have all sorts of variety! I did a Jillian Michaels "30 day shred" workout yesterday and it totally kicked my butt, so today I did a Pilates workout to stretch out those sore muscles. Tomorrow I'll probably do another circut workout... although my husband wants me to do Carmen Electra's Strip Tease workout... Plus we're going swimming this afternoon so that will give me even more "calories out!"
My September goal is to do one ExerciseTV workout or a 3 mile walk/jog per day. And my weightloss goal is 5lbs this month. I haven't weighed myself in weeks and I'm sorta scared to after last week! But I'll weigh myself tomorrow morning and do measurements. 59 days till Grand Cayman Vacation! Last week must have been "birthday week" for featherweights! My b-day was Tuesday. Happy belated birthday Ashlan and SusanB!

Well, 6 days later I'm actually UP 2 lbs. I have a reason, if not an excuse.
Last Friday was my OH's birthday and we had a big party with all his family - it turned into an engagement party when he produced a ring and got down on one knee in front of all his family! So I celebrated a bit too much and have been eating leftover party food for the last 2 days.
http://www.cheapsheetmusic.co.uk/ringsmall.jpg
So I am now 143 - 14 lbs higher than my lowest weight ever, which admittedly I only saw for one day, but still. And 18 higher than my eventual goal of 125. So I have to lose some weight now for the wedding. I reckon 17 in a year is doable - lol!

09-08-2009, 06:31 AM
Congratulations Robsia!!! That must really be thrilling to get engaged that way.. You're lucky!!
I've planned to join a gym this month but then I thought its good to run/walk for one month till the start of winter and then join. I try to walk 1 hour daily and its a great change to my normal routine, sitting all day in front of system or reading. But now that my classes started and a bit busy and energetic too. The wonderful thing is I get inspired by all of you from 3FC and find a way or another to move a little myself!! Thanks to all of you for posting your success stories and motivating people like me over here. :) I just love going through all those..
But the strange thing is that I have started my dieting and exercise 2-3 weeks back and all I could manage to lose is just 2.6lbs. Is it normal? Or should I consume more protein and do a little bit more exercise?
Please help me!!
srmb60
09-08-2009, 06:39 AM
Good morning!
Sure 2.6 lbs is just fine! I'm not sure if I'd tweak anything just yet. But if you feel that you want to up the ante ... just try for better food quality and put a little more oomph in your walk/run. There's no need to make huge changes if what you are doing is working. And it is!

Featherweights -- not much new with me... just wanted to check in and say "hi!"
My weight has been stable for the past two weeks, not much up or down. So I've decided to increase my cardio. I see A LOT of you are runners! I've been posting in the Exercise thread, doing the Couch to 5K and planning to run a 5K mid-October, a first for me! Hope this increased cardio will lead to a few less pounds LOL!
BUT I'm going out of town this weekend (tomorrow actually). Hoping this doesn't throw me off -- but I will have access to a pool!!! So I'm excited to get some swimming in which is a treat for me.

Please help me!!2.6lbs in 2-3 weeks is 1lb/week, which is really good... My recommendation would be to consume more veggies not more protein and intensify your walks, do more hills, walk faster etc...
Food has been good this week so far, exercise too...

Hey Ladies!
Robsia - Congratulations. I gained 2 pounds when I got engaged too. It is well worth it! Again Congrats and what a pretty ring
Well for me ladies I am still trucking along. Tyring to get back on my regular schedule after being off for 4 days for holiday. It is time for me to start looking for wedding dresses and to prepare for my cruise in the end of October. I am in the BL challenge so that will keep me straight. I had a great labor day weekend at the Drag races and now my DF wants to be a race car driver...*smh* I am WI tomorrow just not at WW. I will be doing that at home TY very much....LOL

Congrats Robsia! Your ring is beautiful!
For me, I have actually had a pretty good day. Ate pretty well - I actually made stuffed peppers with ground turkey for dinner - they were soooo good! And then I did Jillian Michaels Quick:NoMoreTroubleZone workout which, as always true with JM, she kicked my butt! I probably won't be able to move tomorrow. I was going to do the full version but my DH suggested that since the last 20 minute JM workout put me down for a day and a half, that unless I want to be down for a week, I may want to stick to the shorter videos for now! I think he was right! I don't know if I could have made it much longer - I was dying at the end!

One hour daily walk is wonderful along with mixing a bit of jogging, jogging continually takes time and practice, baby steps first so do some walk/jog intervals instead. And definitely don't drop your new lifestyle, after all it is a LIFEstyle  ... Losing .4 of a lb / week is excellent, all those .4s add up quickly after all there are 52 weeks in a year :D

Do you ladies weight train? If so how often?
srmb60
09-10-2009, 02:27 PM
Weights? Yes!
Right now, they are not firmly in my plan. I have done a four day split each week but I think I'm going to try an upper and lower split. I'm pretty sure that I can squeeze in two bouts a week.
What were you thinking Ashlan?
Oh yes, do take measurments! When the scale is not reflecting your hard work, a half inch here and there can be a huge boost.

CakeBatter -- Yes I weight train, have been for 24 years now, I was 28 when I started, do the math  ... As a beginner you should start with compound exercises that work large muscle groups for 6-8 weeks or so. Compound exercises are exercises involving more than one joint and targeting more than one large muscle group, ex.: leg press or squats, chest press, barbell bent-over rows for back. Weight training with progressive greater resistance, has the most potential for lean body weight and raising your metabolism hours after you workout. Doing a full body workout 2-3x/week and start with 10-12 reps of each exercise doing each exercise 2-3 times which are called sets....Hope this helps, if you have more Qs just ask away...

I had another good day calorie-wise. Did upper body and was on the elliptical. I'm enjoying that first "on plan swoosh" but understand what it is and do not plan on losing this fast next week ... that's for sure.
Today, I'm going to walk to church. I'm not staying for the potluck after! I need to grab a few things for my lunch on the way home and then work.
Since it's so nice out, I think I'll leave a few minutes early and walk a few extra blocks. That may be the closest I get to exercising today.

Ilene - well done!! I am getting back into running after 5 weeks off - only did two short runs last week as I felt my leg pulling a bit where I hurt it so didn't want to overdo it, but I'm going out again today and see how it goes.
Amy - WTG on starting the C25K - that's how I started. There's a brilliant C25K support thread in the exercise forum.
Susan - I have salads sometimes in the summer for my lunch - but I do get bored of them after about a month or so.
Well, I am 3 pounds down after my holiday and party binge. Only 15 to go.
I was trying on wedding dresses on Saturday and was very pleased to find that pretty much all the sample dresses in the shop were too big for me!! I think I have found the dress though, although I won't be buying it from here - I have found a website in the US where I can buy it for £400 less, and they throw in a free bridesmaids dress and free shipping!

Hello everyone. I've not been on here for a while - got down to 153, just under 11 stone in the UK system. I'm 26 and I don't think I have ever been lighter as an adult. I am very pleased with how I've got on. I have let my focus go a bit, which is easy to do when people are complimentary and say that I am not overweight anymore. However I still have a large wobbly belly and flabby arms, and I still feel that I am bigger than most women my age. I am considering setting a new goal but it's hard to pick a figure - after all I have never been a slim adult! Any tips are welcome.
To lekshmiprasanth, I think you should be pleased with your 30 mins of jogging, it is definitely worthwhile. If you would like to increase the time, you could try slowing the pace or introducing a walking break halfway through - over time you can then increase the pace at which you run. But I think 30 mins is enough to improve your fitness, especially if you do it several times a week.
Robsia
09-15-2009, 08:29 AM
Well, at your height and weight, your BMI is only 23.3 which is perfectly respectable.
If you were 10 stone it would be 21.3 which would most definitely make you slim, if you don't think you are already. It's a nice round number.
What size are you, if you don't mind my asking - I'm in the UK too so you don't have to 'translate' :)

I did pretty awesome yesterday. Stayed on track with eating and ran 7 miles. TOM is passing thru so I was happy to workout when i didn't feel like it.
lekshimiprasanth - 30 minutes of jogging is awesome> and like southofriver stated, you can run longer by simply slowing your pace.
susan - If I fix my stuff at night it saves me a world of time but after I do it awhile I get lazy and say "I'll do it in the morning". I think I will make that my personal challenge this week ;)

Good morning!
I've had a couple of days that were not so good. A bit of nibbling, too much salty stuff. Not bad and no where near as bad as I have been but ...
I'm still tracking.
Today will be day seven so tomorrow I'll do some assessing and see what's going on. Averages and so on.

Yesterday was good I jogged for 42 mins, stopped at a g/f's place had coffee then jogged home, another 15 mins... food was good too...
Today, so far so good  it's only 9:35am... tonight the gym for chest and triceps...
Yesterday I also made a veggie soup, I love soup in the colder months, I usually make a large pot every week....

Good morning!
Fitday has changed a bit since I was last diligent about using it. I had to struggle to get the stats I wanted ;) However ... it seems I finally have a handle on the food thing. Over the last week I'm averaging 1369 calories per day. Two days too high and two days too low. I'll work on getting that evened out.
As per usual for me, I could increase the time and intensity of my exercise.

I have been very good girl this past week, just adhering to the calorie plan by FitDay and enough exercise :P I wish I could keep up my good work every coming week also.. :)
But couldn't increase the timing for jogging yet :( may be I need to work a little more on that part.

LOL - welcome to my life! Although I am down 3 since I last posted but since that was a few weeks ago I probably shouldn't get over excited. Actually having said that it is quite exciting cos it takes me into a new stone bracket. In the UK we usually weigh in stones and pounds. there's 14 pounds to a stone so 9 stone is 126; 10 st = 140 and 11st is 154. 153.6 means I've squeaked back into the 10s. Now for the 140s.....
All's well here, just getting really narked off with my ISP who seem incapable of fixing my internet problem. I mean, I do live in England's second largest city - it's not like I'm in some sleepy Devonshire hamlet - well, not till I win the lottery anyway.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Good morning!
I did a slow wander through a mall yesterday. Despite my good intentions, I had to buy a couple of sweaters. It's getting cooler here and well ... I guess if they get to be too big, I can wear a blouse under them. And they were on sale.
I'm hoping for a nice long autumn or else I'm going to have another bag of perfectly good and sharp-looking clothing that never comes out from under the bed. Seeing as how I blew the summer ...
However ... I am on my way now and that feels better.

Hey everyone, I've been MIA as I've been visiting family in Ohio since Wednesday - just got home yesterday. I ate horribly and didn't exercise at all but somehow I managed to not do much damage - not even a whole pound gained. I've also had a few people tell me that I look like I've lost weight, so that was cool. Yesterday and today were hectic so I plan to get back into the exercise routine tomorrow. I did eat well today!

Susan, an exercise ticker is a great idea! I am planning to add one on for October! It will certainly help keep me on track to lose the weight I need before heading to the beach on November 4th! YIKES!
Another motivator for me is this - I purchased two bikini's on-line and then I printed out the pictures of the models wearing those suits AND pictures of me in the same suits... so when I don't feel like working out, i just look at those pictures and think "I SOOO want to look like the model for vacation!" and that gives me just enough will power to do my workouts. I'm realistic - I know that without an airbrusher following me around I won't be able to look quite as good, but any where close would be awesome! The pictures are a great reminder of where I am and where I want to be.

Hello everyone. I am new to your thread. I just joined the forum 2 days ago and I am greatful to be here.
Today I finally took my first yoga class in almost 3 years. It really helped with my back pain/headache. Makes me wonder why I stopped going in the first place.
My problem for the day is that I am hungry all day, no matter what I eat. It is just one of those days!!! Even though I have been hugry all day I have eaten pretty well.

Morning everyone!
It's 2 week assessment time.
I have averaged just over 1300 cals.
I have had two days with no intentional exercise. Rest days doncha know ;)
And .... I've lost 5.8 pounds.
Before we get too excited about that (been there done that) I know it's just beginners fluff loss. While a loss of almost 3 pounds per week would be dream-like ... I know it's not going to happen. But it sure is an encouraging start!

@Ilene - yes long time. Happy to hear from you again. :)
I had really bad body pain yesterday. :( Every inch in my body aches!! But I somehow couldn't drop the aerobics schedule, but skipped all those ab exercises. But I wonder whats the problem, after all these workouts I don't even lose a pound!! When I started last month with jogging I lost 4 pounds so fast that I couldn't believe it happening. But now it seems its stuck. I don't know why!! Now its rainy season, so I changed to aerobics instead of running outside. Is it alright or should I keep walking/running?
srmb60
09-29-2009, 06:35 AM
Good morning!
On the topic of varying cardio ... I think it was Mel who spoke to me about intensity. I had been walking outside and switched to dancing around indoors. I thought it was about the same. I got a heart rate monitor and found some variables that were very interesting. Dancing did not increase my heart rate by much nor did biking. I can't seem to 'get' that perceived exertion thing.
And body pain? Oh yes you need rest days! Have you tried splitting your exercises into body parts? If your abs are tired, do some arms and shoulders today ... or rest ;)
And if the body pain is pervasive or not a consequence of exercise, it's worth speaking to your doctor about.
Yesterday was good. I got right back on plan. Yup, it'll be a good week.
lekshmiprasanth
09-29-2009, 06:44 AM
Hey, Thanks Susan :)
I am sure my body pain is part of exercise, nothing to worry about it. :P Yea I think I will give rest to my abs for now, and will concentrate more on arms and lower body instead.I don't really feel good about my static weight!! :D
Oh! I really wonder how can I continue with running in this wet climate? But it seems there is no other alternative to the jogging walking.
I am trying to be a good girl today!
