Confession time! I completely screwed up last night. I havn't seen my best friend in a while and I havn't actually gone out in over 4 months. So last night I was having such a great time that I ended up getting drunk :( which I never actually try to do because I usually hate how it feels. That's not the worst part though. Right after that my friend and I went to the diner to eat, drunk still at 3:30 am. I totally wasn't thinking and I ate a cheeseburger! UGH! I really feel so gross now and it's not just from the drinking! I forgot how I feel when eating meat and it's not pleasant! :barf: Anyone else here ever do somthing similar under the influence? :?: Thanks for letting me vent.

i've been guilty of eating cheez its and chex mix when i'm drunk so slip ups happen. don't beat yourself up over it just next time you drink try and not get to the point where you would eat meat. *hug*
I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on WHITE bread...ew...last night when i was drunk. i never ever ever eat white bread, or sugary jelly, or unnatural peanut butter...

I wasn't under the influence but there was a slip up of sorts for me yesterday.
One of my co-workers is an older gentleman who cracks me up because he's a right wing conservative but if anyone should be a liberal it should be him. He's like an old hippie who doesn't want the stereo type so he goes the extreme other way.
Anyway, he doesn't understand me but he respects me so we get along fine. Yesterday he came up to me and said "You're vaygan right?" I think he was trying to say vegan - which I'm not but he doesn't know anything about people who don't eat meat so I said "Uh, sure." He very proudly gave me this cold cucumber soup that was a two day process to make with ingredients fresh from his garden. It was indeed tasty but there was just one taste in there that was odd to me and not quite right. I asked him how he made it and he told me so enthusiastically about the process and then says "Now they say to use vegetable broth, but I use chicken broth because that is the best!" Bingo!
In any event, I did get his recipe and I will be making it myself.. but with vegetable broth ;)

Hey, forgive yourself and move on. Unless you have been a vegetarian from birth and have never had meat, you are a convert, and converts backslide occasionally. You are doing your best to be a vegetarian for whatever reason, and that is all you can do.

Thank you all for your kind words, I'll try not to get THAT trashed next time lol! I really don't drink often in the first place so I guess it effected me a bit more than I expected.

Gack, no never. The thought repulses me and I've been drunk plenty of times since going vegan. Maybe it's time to reevaulate why you're veg?

I wouldn't go that far. I don't miss meat, not at all. I just wasn't actually thinking at the time I did it. I know that avoiding animal products isn't just good for the animals it's also very good for me. Unfortunately just because I stopped eating it doesn't do away with the 27 year old habit instantly for me but everyday it does get better. Old habits die and new habits are formed yada yada yada. :)

Hmm I guess. I don't relate to eating something and not considering what is in it.

Trust me if I was sober at the time it would not have happened. I think there would be a bigger issue here for me if I DIDN'T feel horrible about it after. Thanks for the input though! I really hope to be able to think the way you do somday, maybe this kind of thing wouldn't have ever happened in the first place.

That's what happens when you are drunk, you don't consider what is in it. Haven't you noticed people who are drunk do really stupid things ? Everything seems like a good idea when you are drunk.

I'm sorry Gypsy that happened.
I can't really relate because even when I've been super drunk, I'm still aware of what I'm doing. I don't drink anymore though, other than maybe once or twice a year a glass of wine or a beer.

I don't drink but the other day my little brother was getting him and myself some cereal and our bowls were next to each other and took a bite of his by mistake which had real milk. It made me super sick and I forgot how nasty milk tasted.

I haven't ever been drunk before (as I'm 19, and not a party animal like most of my friends), but I have had the occasional slip. For instance, one time I went out to lunch with my friend at a local diner; I ordered the garden burger (duh), and when it came I was so hungry I started chowin' down. The shock came when I bit into a particularly crunchy bit of substance that just didn't taste right. Well, it so happened that there was a bit chunk of bacon embedded in the bottom of my hamburger bun. :barf: I didn't want to make a scene in front of my friend, so I didn't mention it to the server. However, I was extremely annoyed to find out that they obviously must assemble/cook both meat and meatless products in the same area. Talk about contamination.
Another little mishap happened yesterday. My "mother-in-law" had made a split pea soup, hamhocks included even though she usually stays away from pork. Now, full well knowing that we're pescetarian and the only meat we'll eat is salmon, she continuously insists throughout the day that we try a bite of her soup. She gets very offended, and annoyed with us and the tension only builds until late that evening where we finally cave. Her argument was that she'd give us a bite without meat and you wouldn't even taste it. I got tired of the hissy fit, so I took the offered bite, my mouth flooded with the despicable flavor of pig. I smile, bite still in mouth, and nod my head to assure her it's delicious while my GF goes to take a bite as well. Unfortunately I'd gotten a good chunk of meat, and had to hide it in my mouth until she momentarily left the kitchen (at which point I spat in out in the sink). I really can't stand people who push food on you.

I doubt most restaurants can set aside a special area for vegetarians, and I guess another one for vegans. I try not to worry too much about that kind of thing, although I certainly understand. Finding a piece of meat in my mouth would really bother me, I think I would say something about that.

awww Gypsy, don't be so hard on yourself! I'm not a veg. but trust me I've eaten some pretty awful things while under the influence! lol If we all took into consideration what was in the foods we put into our mouths...would we even have weight issues to begin with?? Drunk or not =op
Keep up the good work

People do stupid things when they're drunk, don't beat yourself up for it. I finally caved and went back to eating meat for a few months to shut up my parents, but I felt so awful all the time I went back to my pescitarian roots. And I was SOBER for that one >_<

awww...don't worry we are human and as human we tend to make mistakes...we cannot change what comes natural to us especially when our 5 senses are not working together...I am a pescatatrian and when everyone around you are carnavors its hard especially when your drunk!! My family tends to get drunk and have bbq's so i try to steer clear but they do try to accomodate me sometimes by getting me a salmon and making a smoke salmon they are funny thought...

Yes...I love it when people think they can convert a meat dish to vegetarian by "picking out" the meat! Clueless! My mother included....sigh ;(
