Hiya everyone!
I just got 30 Day Shred and was wondering if its any good. Does it work all areas of the body, or just upper?
Any advice about this DVD would be appreciated. Thanks :)

My sister uses it and says it's amazing. It's a full body workout. I saw part 1 on youtube and am definitely going to be starting soon.

I just started it today (holy @#$%!!) and I'm wondering if it's an everyday workout, a few days a week? How are you guys using it?

For me: Every single day. I promise that once you get beyond the initial pain, it gets easier. That first/second day pain is killer but you've gotta push through that.
On this Friday I will complete my 30 days (I missed only one day). I cannot WAIT!

Have you noticed a big change in your body making it through the entire 30 days? I need some real motivation to push through this killer workout!

I've noticed a little change in my body, and I am only on day 5... it gets so easy... and for 20 minutes a day, why not try it? :D

This is the first time I've heard about this. She also does TBL Strength Training DVD and I feel like it's a good one.. It too has levels 1,2 and 3. I'm doing level 1 right now, I just started but it had me Sweatin'! I'm going to have to look into this other one!

It is a great workout! I alternate it between longer workouts. For barely 25 minutes you can't go wrong! :carrot:

My friend loves The Biggest Loser and Jillian Michaels and he wants to try her 30 day shred and I want to do it too so we both have a support system, I told him about this site and I told him that I would ask a question, well get advice more or less. He's about 6'' around 290lbs (He used to be 305, I'm so proud of him!) and has asthma that is under control but still it can be a factor, would this DVD collection be too hard for him? So far he's walk's, and swims but wants something more. I told him to talk to his doctor but he's such a pain and doesn't want to talk to anyone about working out.

I just got this DVD from Netflix and I can't wait to try it out in the morning. I Have 50#s to lose and need a REALLY good video since I can't afford the gym. From what everyone has been saying it sounds like people are getting results, but my only concern is the length of the workout. Is level 1 long enough or do you do an additional workout with it? I have 2 little kids so I need to do something all at one time and get it over with so I need the most effective in a minimum amount of time. Can I just do one level and consider myself done for the day? Thanks!

I say yes, you can do one level and consider yourself done for the day...it is THAT tough and concise. I've been using it as my main exercise for months now, and having undisciplined eating pretty often :o but have still maintained my loss and have not gained back.

Congrats to your friend!! I think he'll be fine with Shred. I have asthma, too, and I did it just fine. Actually, the only problem I had is with the jumping (I had to modify a lot). Even with that, I lost about 9 pounds in 30 days.

Thanks! We did try it yesterday and had his inhaler ready, he did pretty good on it, afterward I collapsed to the floor and didn't move for a while. Today it was even harder because of how sore we both were despite using a 2.5 tiny little weight, but I think we can manage. Congrats on losing the 9 pounds!

At the beginning of the DVD she mentions a certain diet but doesn't give any details. Is anyone doing this particular diet? Can u share what it basically is? Or if anyone is doing another specific diet along with this workout and is losing, can you please share what you are doing? I am doing Weight Watchers. I hope between these 2 I will notice some sort of difference.
Thanks in advance!

So today is going to be day 4 of Level 2, but I feel so sore. I might take a day off (I shred 5 days a week) but I'd rather push through. It's rainy here today so I won't get my bicycling in today.
The rain will make my house cooler though and will make it better for pushing through Level 2 for the 4th day straight. I also thought about alternating by going back to Level 1 for a day and then doing Level 2 tomorrow? Does anyone else do this?
I wonder when my body will find Level 2 challenging but not something to be dreaded? Planks are so hard for me. If this doesn't work I'm going to be very upset.

I'm a new member on here and just started Jillian's 30 Day Shred. I actually cracked into Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism and found it hard to complete due to the length of time and some of the exercises, but instead switched to the 30DS first. I have found myself liking this video... a lot! I live on the second floor of an apartment building so for my downstairs neighbor's sake, I do all jumps on "light" feet as an adjustment. I am using just this for now as I am weaning myself into the whole eating healthy/exercising habit. I really think I'm going to like this video and am looking forward to getting my butt whooped on Day 1 of Level 2 in a few days :)

Great job Hawk! I can't imagine starting with BFBM! In fact, I did that video with my huband on Monday for the first time in about a month (I've been doing other videos, 30DS included) and now my feet hurt like CRAZY! Not sure what I did.....

Yeah, the back of my heel hurt pretty bad after doing 2 or 3 days of BFBM.. and that was THAT for the video for now :) So now 30DS is my plan of attack. And lots of yummy chicken meals!

I bought 30 Day Shred from Amazon and it came yesterday- so fast! I was thinking I'd start the 1st of October but I did it today and it's intense! It really kicked my butt and it makes me feel like I've been wasting time at the gym! I could barely lift my arms to shampoo my hair after! I definitely struggled and totally cheated in certain spots but I plan to stick with it. I wonder how bad I'll be feeling it tomorrow.. I did use 5 lb weights which were a bit too heavy for me but they were all I could find. So I'll definitely try to find the 2.5 lb weights before I do it again.
I'm glad I did it though and I'm excited to improve! Please tell me some of you guys had to cheat a least a little the first time!

Okay, so I completed Day 4 of Level 2 today. And yes, I have been cheating on the last ab move. I am too sweaty to stay in plank position to do it! I substitute bicycle crunches instead. Level 2 is so much harder than Level 1. I don't know if I am going to move to Level 3 until I get Level 2 down. I think it is going to take me a while with all the Plank moves. I also did get to do my bike ride today too! The rain stopped.

Thanks! I had to chuckle at your collapsing...only because I did that every day after Shred. I would be a sweaty mess laying on my yoga mat for about 5 minutes. I don't know how many times I thought, "I hate you, Jillian!"
ETA: It does keep easier! That initial pain *will* go away...keep going! :D

Wow, I'm afraid of that DVD. I am doing NMTZ right now and that's challenging enough. Jillian's cardio scares me... lol!

I'm with you on BFBM...her cardio is scary enough that I've been out running instead :P.
It is a great workout though...really gets the heartrate up and she mixes it up to keep you from getting bored. I just have an awful floor that slides around under me as I do it so most cardio days, I would rather run.

My only suggestion is just stick with it!
I just completed Day 1 yesterday... at least for me, the first few minutes were the most difficult, I think it was around the jumping jacks at the end of the first circuit I felt like I was going to fall over. But once I got over the "hump" and pushed through it I felt much, much better.

I got this dvd awhile ago, tried it twice awhile ago... only made it about 5 minutes into level one... er...
I really want to give it a go again, but I'm now in an apartment with neighbors below me, and I'm self conscious about the jumping jacks, not wanting to disturb them. I mean, it's not like I'd be doing it at ridiculous hours or anything... but, I don't know, maybe this is me making excuses? Maybe just say screw it, do it, and they'll knock on my door to tell me to stop if I'm really bothering them?
How long are each level?
Like I said, I couldn't even get through 5 minutes of level one before I had my water bottle, chugging, then pretty much passing out on the couch or bed.

Level 1 is about 25 minutes including the stretching at the beginning and end I think. I hear you on the first five minutes though, I was ready to give up too.
For me, it was kind of like getting a second wind... I've been running off and on for years (though I haven't in awhile and I'm working on getting started again) and every time I start running after not having done it awhile the second wind thing hits me for the first couple of weeks. If you can fight through it though it will get easier!
Oh, and don't worry about the neighbors... if they were to complain, I bet by the time they think about doing it you'd be all done anyways! :)

I'm going to have to get it from my sister-in-law. I forgot about it in their playstation 2 when we were moving.
Also, I don't have any hand weights. I don't know when I can get to the store to get them (probably this weekend?). Is there something I could use as a substitute? I don't want to just do the motions, but I'm sure that'd be better than just not doing the dvd at all, but is there something I could use in the meantime?
I plan to start either today or tomorrow. Depending whichever day (and what time) I can get ahold of my sister-in-law.
Oh, and after last night, I'm not too worried about the neighbors because in my exhaustion of exercising, I just took to dancing and jumping around (though not for a long time), so it should be okay.
And 25 minutes? lol wow, I have a whole 20 more minutes to make it through... how do you keep pushing through? I mean, I've tried, but it's just like "water..." (like I'm crawling through a desert). Suggestions on this?
lynnyloo
09-30-2009, 06:43 PM
You could probably use water bottles or even something like soup cans...
When I get to the point where i'm like "ok where is my second wind already" if I'm really struggling I'll slow down the pace a little but I don't ever completely stop. I find it waaay more difficult to stop completely and be able to start back up again rather than slow down the pace a little and miss a few reps here and there.
I did day 2 this morning (I missed yesterday because I play in a volleyball league on Tuesday nights and really just didn't have time). And, I'm STILL sore all over... but it's a feel good kind of sore. It was just as difficult as the first day but I know if I keep up with it that it will get easier.
