South Beach Diet - 30 Day Shred & South Beach

Hello fellow Beachers! :)
I was just wondering if anyone is doing the 30 Day Shred DVD by Jillian Michaels while on South Beach. I recently ordered mine and a friend of mine brought it over to me today. I don't plan to start until I get back from Philly so I can start fresh.
If any of you are, please share your experiences. Maybe we could start a support thread or a challenge here. I know there's one in the exercise area but I wouldn't mind a more intimate one over on this side of the Beach.
Let me know what you guys think. If not, I'd love to hear your successes and challenges while shredding away. :)

i am also doing 30 day shred but i have paused to focus and finish:)phase one. i think it's awesome! i had some doubts at first due to my back injury but my doctor and my physio therapist cleared me. i'll be honest- the first time i did it i almost hurled! but i followed the modified version dutifully and within weeks felt stronger and the exercises grew easier every time!!! it's very high intensity but jillian's commanding presence kept me on point *grin* well,hope this was helpful. feel free to pm me if you need more in-depth info!

I'm doing 30 day shred along with doing Power 90 w/my hubby! I LOVE the shred and all of Jillian's workouts!

Thanks for sharing guys! :) We'll just leave this open and post whenever we can. I'm glad I'm not the only Beacher that will be doing this. I'm going to officially start mine August 10th, no matter how jet-lagged I'll be. ;) By then, more of us will be ready to get going. Also, those who have already begun can help the rest of us along. :)

As stated above, I'm starting when I return in a couple of weeks. I already have the DVD sitting next to the DVD player. I know that our weight loss will be energized with a dose of exercise. Maybe we can consider this something like a boot camp. A South Beach, Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred Boot Camp! :drill:

OMFG!!!!! :eek: Jillian Michaels has NO mercy!!! :drill: I just finished Level 1 a little while ago. I hurt! I HURT I say!!!! :yikes:
Although, I must admit it HURTS SO GOOD!!!! :wl: I feel I've made a major accomplishment. Especially as I've been trying to do the workout since early this morning. There were so many obstacles along the way that could not be avoided. Also, I just got back in from Philadelphia late last night as our flight was delayed, but that's another story. ;) The excuses were running rampant in my mind. It was so easy for me to say, "I'll start tomorrow." However, I felt I made a commitment to start today and I had to stick with it. I'm glad I did! :D
Okay people, who's with me? It doesn't matter what level or day you're on. Just get moving. We're going to get this South Beach thing mastered by working our arses off!! :exercise:

Hi - I am not doing the 30DS regularly, but I just wanted to comment that I used it for the last two weeks while I was away from home. (I brought my 5-lb weights with me.) I did it every other day. Given how much my arms hurt from the front raises there is no way I could do it every day...
Anyway - I highly recommend it as a GREAT workout when you just have a little time!! I plan to keep doing it whenever I miss my classes (which are similar: crunches, cardio, weights...)

Thanks Christine!! :) I woke up so sore this morning!! However, I pressed through as I didn't have a choice! :) Just finished my workout for Day 2/Level 1 a little while ago. I survived and am SO ready to hit the showers and crash for the night! :)

Hi Emma! :) Thanks for sharing your experience with this workout. It's been a long time since I've done anything structured and/or had to commit to. I walk, swim, park far from the entrance and avoid elevators like the plague whenever I can but it just isn't enough for me to continue melting this fat away. You rock for adding other forms of exercise! I'll get there someday. ;)
Survived another day on the 30-Day Shred. :) I felt a little cold trying to creep into my system and of course my mind told me to just lie in bed and feel blue. However, I put that thought out of my head immediately and turned on the DVD. I'm glad I did as I felt much better after only a few minutes of working out. I figured, it's only 20+ minutes, I could do anything for 20+ minutes.
My daughter is so funny. She thinks the "jumprope" is the funniest move ever. She seems to come into the room right when I'm doing that one.

Jillian totally kicked my arse tonight! I tried the first few minutes with shoes as was suggested on another thread and that made it unbearable! I couldn't do anything so I had to kick them off to get the full effect of the workout. I'm a barefoot girl and can do the moves much better that way. On top of it, Aunt Flo decided to pop up with a vengeance for her monthly visit!! I so wanted to give in to her but I slapped the beeyatch and told her to get out of my way until Jillian, I and the girls were done. I also turned on my radio as I was slightly annoyed by Jilian's voice tonight. That's probably because she was telling me to keep moving and don't quit! Every ounce of my body aches and I am more than ready for a hot shower. I'll pop a couple of Midols and it's off to Sleepville!!!

I waited until after I was done with my "re-visit" to Phase 1 before I decided to kick up the exercise. I'm glad I did. I'm on Day 5/Level 1. It's not easy but I'm able to keep up and actually do jumping jacks without thinking I was going to pass out! :lol: Can I say how much I've always hated freaking jumping jacks?!?!?! :rolleyes:
I started working out with the radio last night. I turn Jillian down a tad and crank up the tunes. It makes my 20+ minutes go by much faster. :)

No shredding for me yet, tending to an injury and should be in chiro/massage thereapy treatments for another 2-3 weeks. But I have been given the clearance to do "light exercising". You think the Shred qualifies? ;)

Just wanted to post about Day 6. I was able to get it in early again and it felt so good. Willpower is a great motivator because I just wanted to crash for a few hours. Fortunately, I pushed myself to get my bum off the bed and started the DVD. I also worked out with the radio again. It so makes the time go by much faster.
I feel much better about the jumping jacks today. :) So much better than when I started this. I don't want to slap Jillian anymore. :lol:

"don't tell me you can't do jumping jacks .. i've worked with 400 pound people that can do jumping jacks". She's got no mercy !!!

Oh girlie! Hero I'm not! :dizzy: I did Day 9 today. I still haven't decided if I'm ready to transition to Level 2 yet. I think I still need to be totally comfy with Level 1 first before that happens. I mean, it's more doable each day but still gives me a good sweat.
Anyway, I'm glad yours has finally arrived!!! :carrot: I say get going on it even without the weights. It'll still pay off. And that 400 pound comment made me keep going and I'm pretty much able to keep up. I think there's like 3 or 4 times we do jumping jacks. Let me know how it goes. :)
Anyone on Level 2? Give me a sneak peek of details before I cross over. :)

I tried to do a walking DVD the other day, and my TV/DVD player broke!! Maybe that was a sign that I just need to take it easy for now. I so dislike not being active with me being so new on the beach!!

I'm telling you, the first time she said to get down on the floor, I felt like I could just stay there :lol:
I struggled a bit, but I kept pushing on and I did it. So I'm happy with that :)

I soo totally know exactly where you're coming from!!! :eek: It's like you find parts of your body you never knew were there. :lol: I sometimes consider ABS a break. :lol:

So, really, as torturous (sp?) as this sounds, are you all really able to do this every single day????????
What do you do when you are so sore, and then have to do more the next day?
I know I just need to do something!! Even if my injury makes me do some modifications, I just want to start moving!! And then I saw a preview for the next Biggest Loser season starting 9/15, I can't wait!

Okay, I took a chance and peeked into Level 2 after I did Level 1 tonight. It didn't look as bad as I thought so I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow. ;)

Hi CINDIEJO! :) I'm glad yours is on its way. You will truly enjoy the benefits from this. It's only 20+ minutes and is very doable daily. She has 2 women doing this with her. One is doing a modified version and the other is doing more advanced. I tend to go between what all 3 of them are doing.
You will be sore of you haven't worked out in a while but I guess it all depends on what level you're doing and your exercise patterns. After the first few days I decided to take Tylenol before I worked out. Some days a warm shower/bath helped. On the days I forgot to take Tylenol before, I just took it after. Some days just rest. That will vary from person to person.
Good luck and a speedy recovery from your injury. :)

SunshineCA: I noticed that after doing it like 5 times, I wasn't sore anymore, so you might consider skipping the Tylenol once you get used to it just to see if it even still hurts.

I would like to share my fear, Im doing phase 1 and i know how important is to build muscles, but honestly i more into lose weight in phase 1 for than go for resistance exercises... and thats why im concerned with 30shred and also jillian's boost your metabolism dvd!!
Im afraid to gain weight if i start those... :(

I didn't start the Shred until I was in Phase 2. I didn't think I ws physically ready to handle it. However, there are some people who have, I'm sure.
The latest push in the SBD Lifestyle is to move more. So if these workouts make you more active, you shouldn't gain. I know everyone is different but I'm still losing and at a steady pace.
With the Shred it includes cardio, strength and abs. I'm not familiar with the metabolism DVD.

izzystizzy: When I started 30DS, my weight loss sped up so I personally didn't have that problem and about Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, it's not a weight training DVD, it's pure intense cardio, so I really don't understand your concern there...

Its amazing , only 50min including warmup and cooldown , and there is no weight needed , just your body :) It's my favorite fitness one!

I have Jillian's Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism and the No More Trouble Zones. Both are approx 50 minutes and pretty good and intense. I like them. The No More Trouble Zones is the only exercise DVD that has made me cry to date :o

I just ordered 30DS also...do you feel it has helped you?? I keep reading that helps you lose inches more than weight, but as long as Im losing SOMETHING idc what it is lol

hey girls, i finally decided to give a second chance for Jillian and start again with the BFBM dvd at least for the next 3 weeks (till i go back to Europe) , than i think i would go back to 30DS , since I don't have much time free than! :)

YAY! I'm really excited about getting this video. I only have a few pounds to shed, but I really need to tone up and firm up.
I love walking, but we live up a long dirt road and getting my son to the pavement in **** stroller sucks. So I do the usual things like carry my son as much as possible, park far, stand up and/or pace at home when on the phone etc. All make shift - but at least it's something. I'm glad I found a place to be accountable. I was on bodybuilding.com and really like that site - but I'm not good at journaling so I feel like an idiot starting all these journals and not updating them.

So I'm still grounded as far as exercise goes. Latest news from the doc is to just do nothing until we figure out what is going on with my injury. Seeing a specialist next week, bummer!! :(
But I did get the DVD and watched Level 1 -- I'm dying to do it!!!!

Well...my dvd came in today and I just finished doing it...wow, my thighs are burning!!!! I couldn't even walk straight when I was done...my legs were wobbling!!! I look forward to going through with this..I'm very determined to lose weight!

Hey ya'll, it's me again.
I wanted to let ya'll know if you have tv on demand, that the exercise on demand channel has all 3 levels of 30DS, NMTZ and BFBM if you wanted to try them before buying them. They are all full length.
