Weight Loss Support - What's you're favorite non-scale victory so far?

Just wanted to hear some good non-scale victories. I'm still early in my weight loss. But I was way excited about a month ago when I sat in a metal patio chair without the pain of its arms digging miles into my leg fat!

I've just begun so I don't have very many yet :(
So far though there have been two:
1. I don't look like I have a pregnant belly any more
2. I saw the first little rippling of muscles under my fat thighs yesterday at the gym!

When I was able to jog for 40 minutes without stopping or passing out, I felt pretty dang good :D

I bought some jeans just over a year ago a size smaller than I am in the hope I would fit in them. They were only 3 pounds and I didn't fit into them - could barely get them over my legs, and when I did manage to they were about 5 inches too small across my tummy :( More than I expected :( But :) I am wearing those jeans :) and they fit perfectly now :) :) Not tight at all :)

My other favourate NSV is I now also fit into a lot of my old clothes from 10 years ago (OK they're baggy jumpers I got in early pregnancy but I thought i'd never fit into them again :) )

Being able to walk 4 miles, come home and clean the house, prep for the next day. BEING ABLE TO DO THESE THINGS without dying.

Wow. There are seriously so many I can't begin to come up with a "best"...But the best today was when I helped serve lunch at a funeral at church and not only did I not break out in a huge dripping sweat (like I used to) serving 200+ people, I also got tons of compliments on a 20 year old outfit I altered and updated for the occasion.

This one is easy! For me it's being able to wear a size that doesn't end with a 'w'. It means that I can shop in the REGULAR department. For a decade I've dreamed of being in the 'normal' sizes and now I am! Sure, I'm still in the biggest size (16) but I am THERE!

I haven't bought much because I'm wanting to get smaller of course but it's been wonderful for my ego and inspiring for me to go in and try things on. I can get a 14 on now but not buttoned yet. Soon....

It is a tie between feeling my arm muscles for the first time since 2002 (I lay in bed flexing and congratulating myself now) even though they aren't visible yet and being able to, without thinking, sit and play with my nephew in a catcher's crouch without falling over or straining to get up.

I have just begun this journey but I have to tell you something that hit me the other night. Friends came over, brought a bottle of wine. I had bought a small dessert. I had only one glass of wine and one serving of dessert. After they left there was about one glass of wine left over and one serving of dessert. At first I thought I should save this. Then I thought, no. I don't need it and I threw away everything. No regrets, no cravings, etc. I can't tell you how good that felt!

Hiking is the best!

Mine is seeing the progression of my forward bends in yoga, and feeling my hands reach out further past my feet when I do seated forward bends, and feeling my legs go further back behind my head when I do plow pose, and feeling my thighs much stronger when I do warrior pose and knowing it's only going to get better.

I needed this thread today as the scale is not my friend right now.

I have only lost 10 pounds since I got back on track after almost 2 years so there aren't any huge differences... However, I can comfortably wear the pink flamingo pajama pants my mom bought me!! I love pink flamingos, but they were just a little too tight before. Yays!

I've also been using Wii Fit 5+ times a week. When I first bought it in February, the shortest jog (3 minutes or so) made me feel like I was dying. Well, I have been doing a little more every time and now I'm up to the 20 minute jog... I know it's just jogging in place, but still, I never dreamed I'd be able do 20 minutes of anything, lol.

Nothing wrong with jogging in place. I still haven't lost enough for my knees to handle jogging yet. Can't wait til I do.

I've only lost 15lbs so far, so I'm really not fitting into smaller sizes yet. BUT...

I think my biggest achievement has been being able to totally cheat on my diet, like go WAY off plan, and the very next day, get right back on track and back on plan. Not beating myself up or anything.

The last time I lost weight, I struggled with this. I would seriously eat ONE cookie, and then feel SO guilty I would just give up and kick myself repeatedly about it. Now, I just shrug it off and keep on a chuggin'!

Just sharing, I love flamingos too!! I have way too many of them.

I have so many NSVs it's hard to pick a favorite. I guess the best one so far, which I haven't even posted about yet, was being able to buy and wear a non-stretchy metal watch from Fossil. My wrists were too fat to wear any kind of watch for 5 years (I refused to buy a man's watch). In November I was able to wear a ladies Fossil leather watch. Then last weekend I was able to wear, and bought, a nice Fossil metal watch. This means I have lost 2-3 inches off my wrists!!!!!! That's a LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also have a hard time picking just one.

I was looking at shoes today, and being able to pick up a shoe and slip my foot into it (especially a heel), feels monumental.

Plus, it's my first-in-my life 6-month anniversary of consistent exercising.

Congratulations to all of you guys! I am so proud of all of you!

I'd say I got the BIGGEST thrill out of putting on my size 14 dress from 10 years ago and looking d@mn good in it (if I do say so myself)! 10 years ago when I wore it to a Christmas party, it was a little tight. Now, it fits perfectly and I am eager to wear it again. I also found on old size 14 LBD in my closet that wraps around my curves so amazingly. LOL! So, yeah...closet shopping is most definitely my favorite NSV! :D

Oh yay! I was just coming here to post this...

Today I fit into my wedding dress! I got married 8 years ago, and the dress was snug on my wedding day - I had many garments holding everything in. Today, I put it on and just zipped it up! Even my husband commented that it looks like it fits me "even better" now than it did when we got married!

My hair looks terrible, and I don't look very happy, but here is a photo..

I went shopping the other day, since I'm still losing I'm a huge thrift store fan! Anyway....Finding a really cute shirt and looked at the size and it was a large. My aunt said "oh too bad its a lg...bet you never thought you would hear that did you!!!"

I went to see my Dad for the first time in a year and he exclaimed at how beautiful I looked! Plus I was there all week and had actually dropped 2 pounds by the time I came home!!

Every new notch on my belt that I have to use is a huge NSV for me. When I bought this belt last year it barely fit --I had to use the last notch to buckle it. Now it's on the 7th, but I could probably even start using the 8th. The end of the belt now wraps around so I can tuck it into the belt loop on my left side! :D

lol! This, definitely! Running is my favorite NSV.

I also love being able to actually fit into our oversized chair with my husband and not squeeze into it, squishing us both like before. Now we fit comfortably side by side. :)

Running for 20 minutes straight without dying. And fitting in my old size 10 pants....tight but at least I got them on with no struggle. Still have a ways to go but I'm happy.

Ditto the hiking! Just came back from 4+ days on Isle Royale, and hiked 28 miles with a 45 pound pack. Zero muscle soreness in legs or back - huge NSV for me! Don't ask about the condition of my feet, though!

I love being able to wear almost anything in my closet instead of the same five sorry outfits I had to choose from before.

And like CandieRae, I can go off plan for a day or more and jump right back on. Yes, I gain a few pounds from going off plan, but I'm able to get back into my routine without guilt or giving up altogether.

Last night at my yoga workshop, I kicked up into Forearm Balance! (It's like a handstand, but your forearms are on the ground and your hands are clasped) And I stayed there for 5 deep breaths, and could then get back up again for another round!

I wanted to do a little cheer, but that seemed inappropriate. ;) So, I just did a mental cheer and figured out how I can practice those at home.

It doesn't kill me to resist fast food anymore. Before I ate fast food most meals out of the week. I was full-on addicted to it. Whether it was the convenience or the grease fix, if I wanted it for some reason (and I always did) not getting it was inconcievable. Now I hardly ever want it, and if I do I usualy resist and the urge passes soon after. I get to feel proud of myself after a meal instead of ashamed!

Almost passing my PT test for an EOD contract. I ran a 1.5 miles in under 12 minutes, swam a 500 in 10 minutes, popped out 60 sit ups in two minutes, and eecked out 30 push ups in two minutes. 42 push ups, here I come. =)

That I can go to McDonald's and order their Mediterranean Salad (with grilled chicken on top) without dying for their French fries (and having some). I even eat my salad there and walk out without drooling and obsessing about the fries.

Not sure if this counts, but I can go into my fave restaurant now and order a healthy meal of a taco salad with no meat, just black beans and hot sauce, no cheese sour cream on the side, or maybe a plain black bean burrito (no cheese, no rice) with hot sauce and sour cream on the side, instead of:

2 baskets of tortilla chips
Three different types of salsa/black bean or cheese dips
Boneless deep fried hot wings
I"m sure I easily down a quarter cup of ranch dressing

BLECH!!! That was my fave meal evar and I"m so glad that I don't eat it anymore (going veggie has helped iwththe fried meats)

being able to WALK to JCPennies and back across the whole town and feel happy about it. hot, but happy :)))

the day I could feel my bones just below my neck ( can't think of the word right now ) I haven't stopped touching them since.

Another great one was when I could take my middle finger and thumb and be able to wrap them around my wrist and have the tips of those two fingers touch.

I used to feel soooo uncomfortable running/jogging for ANY distance at all. Even just a few steps. I just would feel so big and rediculous, and my breathing would be laboured more or less immediately.

Today I ran out of the aquatics center, across the room (maybe 40 yards, no huge distance or anything) to the drink machine. I didn't really think about it before I did it; it just kinda happened. And I didn't feel at all tired; my breathing was normal. It felt... wait for it... natural! Ran back to the aquatics center... same... natural! I can't wait to be running further!!!

Last weekend I had a really good one. My girlfriends and I went to an art show, so I decided that I was going to borrow my DD22's "skinny jeans", yep they do fit me, and wear a pair of boots that I bought either in the late 80s or early 90s, can't remember. My calves are generous even at my size and these boots have not always fit or been in style (lol). They are almost flats and slouchy black leather. But the boots fit over the skinny jeans! I wore them with a tight sweater tunic and really long beads (from the 90s) and got tons of compliments!

DH is in the military and we had a formal ball to go to a couple weeks ago. All my evening gowns from previous years are too large now and it wasn't quite in the budget to buy a new one.

So, I went dress "shopping" in a friend's closet and borrowed one for the evening. It's been 15+ years since I was able to borrow clothes from a friend!
