If the Dr diagnosed you with diabetes, sorry you got it and are unfortunately stuck with it. It doesn't go into "remission" but it is controlable and there's no reason you still can't enjoy life and food! I'm 35 and just joined the club back in February so I know, same thing, I'm overweight, wasn't exercising and not watching portion controls and low and behold, I'm diabetic....My my family history, I too, was expecting this, but not for another decade or so...but life likes to bite you in the tush when you least expect it...so you learn to deal with it. I lost 25 pds at first (through shear panic over the situation) Now that my sugar levels look better, I'm not being as good, but still working on it. Exercising 5 times a week at them in (sometimes 6) I'm telling you it really helps with the insulin resistance. And yes, it's not all about sugar, it's about any carb and the effect it has on your sugar levels....You can get more info from the diabetic assn online and some other chat boards I belong too are Diabetechat.net and Healthboards.com. You can get some good info and feedback from other people going through this too....You are definately not alone in this. I read the statistics where there has been a 75% increase on type II's between the ages of 30-38 where, as you mentioned, it used to be you were more likely to have it by your 40-70's age range. I take the glucophage XL -2000 mgs a day for now it's helping. Have you had an A1C test yet? Me, Rosey and Judy talk on the dealing with diabetes post, feel free to join in. Do some research on diabetes and the ways to control it, but don't go overboard at first. It can be SO overwhelming, so just try one thing at a time!
