We are about Fitness and Quality of Life after 50...
We are about Fun and Friendship after 50...
We are the Golden Girls...
There is Value in us
There is Power in us
There is Wisdom in us
And Laughter....
We are a rainbow of unique wonders,
There is love in us.
(poem by Dorothy Holmes)
Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark?
Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you!

Hi Everyone,
I guess Bobbi is offline today. I am REALLY positive about July & getting back on track. You know that saying - Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results - I feel like that is what I've been doing. Not anymore. If I don't start back down & keep going, I'm going to do something VERY different - maybe Jenny Craig for a few months.
Also - I WILL stick with eating right during my two-week vacation this month.
I'm feeling those weight-loss vibes!

Good Morning!
Thanks Lynn for starting the July thread, I was totally spaced out yesterday. I spent most of the day in the kitchen doing stuff like making another batch of yogurt, homemade soup, a huge batch of iced Green tea, made a yellow cake for DH nightly ice cream, made chocolate with cherries pudding for me, (sugar free)washed and hung outside a load of clothes, weighed, measured some stuff I'm selling on ebay, etc. What take's the longest was the soup. It's a pain in the butt to weigh all the ingredients, cook it, then weigh again, divided into 8oz. serving and entering it all into Fitday so I know how many calories are in a 8oz. serving. That's really time consuming but a necessary for me or I go hog wild with portions and calories.
I'm happy to see a few more signed up for the Labor Day Challenge this month. Just now on Good Morning America they had an author of a book called "Game On' by Az Ferguson. He wants us to challenge each other with points, not by weight lost so men and women can compete with each other. He didn't tell us exactly how to do it because he wants us to buy the book but I think it like the following:
You can earn 20 points a day
5 points for 7 hours of sleep
5 points for drinking 8 glasses of water
5 points for 20 minutes of exercise daily (can be spread out)
5 points for 5 meals a day (I'm guessing am/pm snack?)
Think that would work for you?

Good Morning,
My days are focused on my daughter. I go over there every morning & every evening for her to apply the cream that burns her already burned face. This treatment is HORRIBLE! Today is her last day. Then, she puts vaseline on for several days. I am so afraid that this is going to scar her face. Hopefully, it has gotten all of the cancer.
Not sure if I told you but my scrapbooking store closed down last week. I guess this is a bad business for the current economy. We will miss it a lot. Guess I'll have to find a new hobby. I've never enjoyed scrapping at home.
Had several good days of eating choices. Eating cereal with protein drink at noon is helping me keep from grazing.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend,
Lynn

Good Morning!
I dead headed all my peonies yesterday, weeded 3 flower beds and called that my exercise for the day.
Today I'm going to catch up on my ironing, when DH was still working I had 5 dress shirts a week to iron and I couldn't wait for him to retire so I wouldn't have to iron anymore. He's had clean shirts down in the laundry room waiting for the iron for a month and I still have to be hit on the bottom to get it done. I'm getting sooooooo lazy.
Lynn...I don't know what's happened with Linda, if you can't get ahold of her, maybe you should contact 3FC? They need a moderator on all threads and they maybe don't know she's been ill?
Hang in there Isabella.............send us pictures of the cake when it's finished.
Busy today making the wedding cake.
What happened to Susanne and Karen from Florida? I miss hearing about all her yummy card party lunches.
Hi Glynne, Rosey, Karen. I got a nice email from Karen31 this morning, her dad isn't doing well and she's spending much time with him.
My Labor Day challenge is going well, I've dropped 4 pounds already but 1st weight always comes off early. Next week I'll probably stay the same but that's o.k. as long as I don't go backwards. I'm counting calories just like before, that works for me. Lynn...sometimes I have another bowl of Fiber One for lunch, it keeps me full and I don't have to take the time to prepare something. Usually I eat a lite Flat Out with 2 Tablespoons prepared PB2 peanut butter and tons of lettuce. Our garden has lots of beautiful lettuce right now, the down fall is it takes me a long time to clean it. I rinse it in vegetable cleaner a couple of times, then take each leaf out individually and check back and front of it for little green wriggly worms that are the same color as the lettuce. Yuk! So far no worms but when it gets toward the middle of hot summer we have a few.
I've procrasted long enough, on to the ironing board, have a great day and a little prayer for Karen's dad.

Hi, just poppin in to say Happy 4th of July to everyone. Things here in Ohio are about the same, I did gain 2 lbs. and have to work that off. We are heading to Florida for a vacation soon, staying in a condo right on the beach for a week....so looking forward to it and seeing my son and friends. Still trying to stay on a low protein meal plan but have had lots of company and short trips so I'm back to trying to stay on track. Hello to all the "old" Golden girls and I'll try to post more often and get to know the "newer" golden girls.

Hi everyone:) We got back from our trip to UT where we met (I was in the labor/delivery room!) out newest grandchild, a little girl! She is a little doll of course! :D
They have stairs in their house and between going up and down stairs and taking care of the two year old, I managed to lose a 1/2 lb in June but think that is just the 1/2 lb I had lost in May then gained back in June (sigh).
Didn't see the accountability thread and remember there wasn't much posting going on last month so not surprised. But if you ever start it up again, I will join it. Right now I am not counting calories, but am counting my carbs (diabetic) and so far, I am maintaining. Did very well today ...manage to turn down sharing a pizza at Costco because I felt full from the samples, but usually I would have had both, so it's progress. For me spacing out my foods helps a lot in my overall consumption. I have changed a lot in the last few years so I am trying to think positively. Bought a new pair of Bermuda shorts (on me they are more like short capris which is what I was hoping for since most capris are too long for my shape) and a top. Couldn't try them on so was really happy to see they fit me and actually look pretty good. Makes me more motivated to lose more weight!
I got a new computer today and have been busy setting it up. Still having trouble getting my printer to work. Downloaded the software and drivers so hoping it will work now when I get around to trying it again. Last month I bought a little netbook (for traveliing and around the house), so I'm all set now...a big desktop for my home office and the netbook for mobility! My dh says it's my anniversary gift, my Christmas gift and my birthday gift! LOL
Haven't gotten back to the gym since we got home as I've been so busy catching up with things but hope to start back next week. Looking forward to it.
Will try and post more often now that we are back home for a few months.

Today is the last day of my DD’s treatment – thank God! Sometime this afternoon, she can start putting ointment on her burned face. I am sure that 20 years from now, people will look back on these treatments that we have today in the same way that we look back on the times of blood-letting.
Hope everyone has a good 4th of July weekend.

Hello all,
Off to work here in a few min ~ just popping in to say hi.
Following Lynn's idea, I am trying to keep saying to myself ~ when faced with that cake (or whatever) that is calling to me ~ Choose Health
Small little victory ~ I didn't eat any of the cake that was on the break room table at work last night.
I have been floundering lately ~ weight going up instead of holding my own or losing. I thought maybe if I had one day a week or every other week and kind of let myself have some of the stuff I had been craving that it would give me something to look forward to and I could "be good" the rest of the time. Not....That turned out kind of disasterous. I bought some snacks/junk reallly that I thought would get me through my treat day. I even picked a day when I didn't have a whole day ~ thinking that would limit me somewhat. What on earth made me think I could consume all that stuff in a day. It tasted good at the moment, but I felt like crap later. Gotta come up with some other plan/way to deal with being able to have some of the things I would like to have.
I don't want to have a heart attack, or a stroke, or end up being diabetic. If I don't change my ways........well ~ what is wrong with me :?: I should know better.
How are you all doing?
Off to work ~ take care

Good Morning!
I've been absent due to spending way too much time playing 'Farm Town'. My DD got me hooked on it and it's so time consuming, my hubby is even complaining about me and the game.
Rosey...I have Visa and had to work thru a few problems but it runs fantastic now, I wouldn't go back to the old XP. I had the sleep mode disconnected, that was a terrible mode to get into. I would put the computer to sleep for the night and it wouldn't wake up in the morning. I'm sure they have that fixed by now, I had my local tech guy disable it.
im changing from windows vista which i hate back to windows xp..less proplems for a person who doesn't have alot of puter savy
Glynne...I think every one of us has the same problem you have. I can't have anything laying around the house period. Maybe you should reward yourself any place but home and work. If you plan having a treat, go to a restaurant where you have to buy it. Or if it's a bakery item, just buy one and don't sit in the car to eat it. You'll just go back and buy one more thinking I already had one , what's one more. Our minds do that to us when we are trying to overpower temptation.I thought maybe if I had one day a week or every other week and kind of let myself have some of the stuff I had been craving that it would give me something to look forward to and I could "be good" the rest of the time. Not....That turned out kind of disasterous.
We had some lovely overnight rain here, great for our garden and trees. Our raspberries are ripe now so we're having the fruit on our cereal in the mornings. I made some sugar free vanilla pudding topped with raspberris for a sweet tooth attack. Yesterday I didn't bother to count calories because they had large pizza's on sale at the grocery store and DH wanted it for supper. The store makes them up from scratch and no calories are available and I'm not going to guess.
I had a large sald before the pizza to fill me up so I wouldn't eat so much.
We're having some filet's wrapped in bacon for supper tonight, it was part of a meat package from SIL for Bruce's birthday. I'm going to give Bruce the bacon even tho it's my favorite part, yum.
You all have a great day!

Hi Gayle, I call it “enlightened neurosis.” We KNOW what we need to do, however, we don’t always do it. I REALLY believe that eating right is a FIGHT against our bodies/brains. For whatever reason, some of us are programmed to eat fat and carbs and too many calories. We are in a WAR. Over time, we identify some strategies that work, but they do not always work in every situation. Sometimes, we have to change strategies/exercise/diets because what has worked in the past doesn’t work now.
My best advice is to de-carb yourself. Have 3 days of NO carbs except vegetables. Then, when you go back, eat only brown bread/potatoes/rice/pasta & NO sugar. For most of us, carbs make you crave carbs.
Good luck finding something that works.
[ I had a large salad before the pizza to fill me up so I wouldn't eat so much.
This is a GREAT strategy – I will use it tonight – my Son-in-law is making spaghetti & meatballs.
My DD & SIL are going on a vacation while she continues to recuperate. I’m going up to my sister’s for the weekend.
Check back next week when I get home.

Hi Everyone, Well, another thing has happened and tomorrow won't be happening for us. The man from the morthuary had a heart attack last night and so the whole day has been cancelled for us. Don't get me wrong--- I feel bad that happened but I have tried to talk to my oldest brother and my younger sister to see why we couldn't just do this by ourselves but they don't want to do that. So now we are all in a holding pattern again just waiting to see what will happen next. I was in a very melancoly mood all day just knowing that tomorrow we would be able to put some closure to this chapter but now it is all in limbo again. I just seem kind of lost right now and don't quite understand why they need someone else to do this when it would be so much more personal for us to do it ourselves. And I think it would mean so much more to all of us---but I guess I am the only one of the 4 of us kids that feel that way. Just trying to bite my tongue a lot but it is sure getting sore!

Oh I guess that does sound a little confusing. Sorry.. We were supposed to go this afternoon to take my Dad's ashes to the lake where he wanted them to be spread. For some reason one of my brothers and my sister want the mortuary to take them, when I thought it would be more personal and mean more to us if we took them ourselves. So now the mortuary has said they will get it done but they just don't know when. I really just wanted to go and do it with just us kids and family there. But I guess this means we will be doing more waiting. Sorry I guess I wasn't so clear on that. Will let you know what happens when things change again.

Good Afternoon girls!
Thanks Karen, that now makes sense. If it were me, I'd want to do something more personal with just the family too, maybe the laws don't permit you to throw the ashes by yourself. Some states only permit officials to do it.
Bruce got his 1932 Chevy delivered, it's a beaut! We have some restoring to do on it, like the whole insides. We're going to order the pre-cut panels and attach the fabric ourselves. It's kind of cool out, think I'll go heat the oven up and make some granola for DH.

Good morning Golden Girls. The wedding is over and the guests have gone home and I'm just sitting here vegetating for a few moments. No pictures yet as I don't have them downloaded and the kids don't have theirs picked up from the photographer yet. Everything went smoothly and the wedding was wonderful. The downside is that there was a ton of food left over and we're trying to eat the perishable stuff before it goes bad. I'm super tired and feel as if I need to sleep for a week but not possible as we're going to our oldest son's place for a couple of weeks and spend some time with our darling grandson. I have beds to make up that were stripped down yesterday, floors to sweep and wash, more laundry to do and dishes and platters to put away. And all I want to do is sit and watch tv. :D I have a mountain of towels and sheets to fold, too so I guess I'd better hop to it and get that done. Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning girls!
I've been absent lately, just toooooooo busy to chat. Once the weeds get going in the vegetable garden it takes forever to weed but I got them all cleaned up. We've also been busy buying up clearance perrenials and planting them to fill up some bare spots by the house.
DH purchased a wood chipper and we're busy making wood chips and spreading them around where we needed mulch.
I wish I could post pictures on here but my browser doesn't work here anymore.:( I would love to show everyone DH's old 1932 Chevy car he purchaed, I'm going to put the fabric on the panels once we get them ordered. We're getting the car painted the 1st week in August. We have lots of work to do on the interior.
Gayle...I am a YoYo person myself. After I lost my weight I thought I'd never have to diet again, WRONG! I have to constantly watch it, I put 10 pounds right back on and it didn't take long. I think eventually I'll be able to eat what I want on Sundays and count calories Monday thru Saturday. And I don't mean pigging out on Sundays, watching it but not counting calories and have a dessert while having coffee with my dad/family.
So, I will have to come up with some other plan. I gained, and need to work harder.
Isabella...Thanks for the update, I've been wondering how everything went. Can you freeze some of the foods? What a temptation to have around but you can always start over like I have a zillion times after the food is gone. I can't wait to see the pictures.

Yes, Bobbi, I've got the freezer full of food. DS and DIL will be here today to do laundry as their washer hasn't arrived yet so I'll give them some to take home. And I'll be starting over again for sure. I haven't stepped on the scales in over 2 weeks and I'm dreading to see the damage.
Since I posted earlier this morning I've had the muscles in my back seize up leaving me bent over and in pain. I'm trying to rest and took Ibuprofen but I have work to do before we can leave tomorrow for a little vacation with our other son. I managed to get all the beds put together and all the towels folded and put away. I lay down on the couch and couldn't get up without help. I hardly ever have a bad back so I'm hoping it's just a simple muscle spasm. Time for more Ibuprofen. Take care.

Hi, I just posted this at the "Active Over 50" thread. Hope it's not a nono to cross post!
May I join this group? I'm 53, and would like to lose 40 lbs. I've been on my quest for better health/fitness since July 1st. At one point I was down 5 lbs, but I'm down just 3.5 now. It's very frustrating. I am counting calories and working out for the first time in my life. I do strength training three days a week, cardio (treadmill) three days a week, and rest one day. Although I am not seeing results, I have to admit that I am doing less grunting and groaning when I bend over or have to squat! I guess that's a start!

Hi Late to the game. Your doing great if you only started the first of July. Slow and steady wins the race to quote an old saying. It's kind of slow here in the summer but things really pick up in the fall when people start coming inside and the weather turns cooler (at least in the Northern Hemisphere).
My back is still hurting but not as bad as yesterday so I guess I'll see a little improvement everyday. I slept most of the afternoon as I took a muscle relaxant which really knocked me out. Had strange dreams which I cannot remember. I'm reduced to wearing a loose dress because I can't take a waist band from pants as it gives me too much pressure on the lower part of my back. I'm so glad this didn't happen last weekend during the height of the wedding and/or preparations.
Our baby grandson is so sweet. I can't hold him yet at least not without supervision. I'm like the 3 year old who wants to hold the baby, ha, ha. He can sit on my lap but I can't walk with him because of the sore back.
Must go as they want me to come watch a movie with the family. Catch you all later. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Hello..............welcome 'late to game'. I'm too tired to write anything, I was gone all morning, stopped for a few groceries. HyVee had many bags of bananas all packed up in big bags and selling for .99 cents.
I didn't weigh them but I'll guessing there were 5-6 pounds. I made two batches of banana bread this afternoon and peeled and froze the rest of the bananas in 1 cup portions for future use. Wow, what a deal.
Sorry to hear about your back Isabella, does ice help? When my back gets inflamed and sore, that's what help take the inflamation down.
Good Night everyone.
P.S. Lynn....how's your daughter doing?

Hi everyone. Bobbi, that was a great bargain on bananas. I do that sometimes but right now I'm all baked out. I think I'll not look at a baking pan until Thanksgiving or maybe even Christmas, ha, ha.
My back is a little bit better this morning. It's still sore but more stiff than sore. I feel very weak in that area though and am trying to nurse the back into a healthy condition again.
The weather is wretched today. Overcast with light drizzle and chilly. I thought I'd try a little walk up and down the street but I don't want a chill on top of the bad back. Baby is so sweet. I was singing to him this morning and he was laughing and cooing.
I'll probably pop back in again this evening so take care everyone.

We're going into town and pick out some fabric for the seats on the 32 chevy, it would be over a $1,000 to send for them. I'm going to cover them myself if we can find fabric that's not too thick for my sewing machine.

Hallo all. My back is finally feeling somewhat better. I can stand straight for longer periods of time. And I walked around with the baby today for a short time.
I hopped on the scales today to see how things were going and I'm down a couple from the weekend so that's a bit of progress for sure.
Bobbi, I was just reading the "Pantry Challenge" over in Foods and I enjoyed reading what everyone was doing with their "old" food. I think I'm going to do that again when we get home. I had to do that before DS's wedding to make room for the wedding food. Now I've got so much left over wedding food I'll probably be ok for 3 or 4 weeks not buying any processed foods. I'll just buy fresh for awhile. I guess that will be kind of like a financial recovery from all the food I bought for that wedding. :D

Good Afternoon! Well, my son starting reroofing my brothers house this morning so that means that they will be planning to go back to Florida in a couple weeks when they are done. After having them here the past couple months it is really going to be lonely without them. Quiet, but lonely!! They have sceduled to have my Dad's ashes spread in the lake this Wednesday so I'm hoping that all goes well this time. Still going to be a rough day.
Hope everyone is having a good Monday.

Hello all,
Up early ~ couldn't sleep ~ it'll probably catch up with me later :dizzy:
Been having a good few days off ~ been able to find some stuff I had been wanting to find ~ we still have boxes we've not unpacked from when we moved here in 07 :o I've had some stuff I've been needing/wanting to do and the stuff I needed to do it was still packed away. So, it has been a good time of finding stuff ~ stuff I was looking for, stuff I had forgotten I had ~ kind of like Christmas and a trip down memory lane. Sorting through stuff, throwing out stuff, loading up some boxes for Goodwill.
I got a new schedule at work a few weeks back and it has helped. I think I am starting to rest a little better at night, feel a little better and having more than a day or two off at a time is allowing me to get some stuff done. It feels good to be able to accomplish something. And while my hands are busy, they are not reaching for food :D
Hope you all are doing well.
Take care

Morning all!
I just got back from town, spent another $75.00 on batting, foam, jute, covered buttons, muslim, etc. for under the upholstery on the old car. Yesterday we lucked out and found exactly what we wanted in velvet upholstery material for $40.00. This sounds expensive but it's really not, it would be over a $1,000 to have it pre-made for our car. I'm excited to start working on it.
Isabella, I'm amazed at how much of last years frozen vegetable I have used up. The only thing I have a lot of is the fruit roll-up and I keep forgetting to give them up my grandkids. They'll eat them up quick.
Bobbi, I was just reading the "Pantry Challenge" over in Foods and I enjoyed reading what everyone was doing with their "old" food. I think I'm going to do that again when we get home.
What fun, almost like digging out an old coat and finding money in it.

Hello,
Oh Rosey ~ I am sorry for your fall ~ I hope everything is ok.
Bobbi ~ sounds like you are having fun working on that car. Hope you can figure out somehow to show us pics of it.
Well, days off are over Boohoo ~ back to work tonight. I worked on stuff at home, so it wasn't like I was just sitting around. I just get so much more enjoyment out of the stuff I do at home. Oh well.
Bobbi ~ my going through the boxes was kind of like finding treasure in the old coat pocket. I found a treasure for Corbin. I came across a card that my grandma had sent to me for Corbin a few months after he was born (1998) ~ in it was a check for $10. So I took that over to him. He was thrilled to have a suprise like that ~ you could see the wheels turning as he thought of the possibilities of what he might do with that. I think that Corbin was her first great-great grandchild. I wish he hadn't lived so far away so she could have gotten to see him. She would have been 92 when she sent that. She passed away the beginning of this year ~ she was 103.
Gotta finish getting ready for work.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Take care

My fingers are so sore from upholstering for three days straight. That's why nobody is hearing from me, It's so much fun and I just can hardly wait to get up in the morning and get started. We did run into a big snag, we don't have enough material to do both front and back seats alike. Tomorrow we're driving out of town to a super size JoAnn Fabric to see if we can match the material.

Hi ladies,
I had a physical yesterday, and learned the results of my lab work. Ug. My cholesterol is a bit high, as is my glucose. I was told to eat bread, which includes tortillas, bagels. etc. not more that once per week (for the blood sugar). Does anyone else have this issue? I'm not sure what I am going to do for lunches. Any ideas? I am going to try to get the cholesterol down through diet and exercise. I am trying to limit fat, at the same time as limiting carbs. When I was on Atkins, years ago, it was either/or. You ate fat or carbs. Now I don't know what to eat! Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

Morning, on the way out of town for the day. My cholesterol was high, doc said to diet and exercise. I was very heavy at the time, 169 pounds, I lost all the weight, got down to a size 6 and my cholesterol was still high so he put me on meds. He said my body just makes lots of cholesterol and not much I can do about it. I took the meds for years, then went off them to see what would happen. You guessed it, sky rocketed again to 335. Back to meds and I'm going to stay on them. I don't have a clue what you can eat, good luckI had a physical yesterday, and learned the results of my lab work. Ug. Thanks, Bobbi. If I have to take meds, so be it. But my doc wants to see if I can lower it through diet and exercise for three months then test again. Do you have any issues with your meds? When I see comercials, the "fine print" scares me!

No issues at all, I'm on the lowest dose possible. The statin drug only says not to take if pregnant or breast feeding. HaHa, this is the over 50+ site so not likely. The only other warning on the bottle is avoid large amounts of grapefruit or grapefruit juice?????
I'm going to get started on a dish to bring tomorrow for pot luck at DD church. It's their annual pot luck picnic and there're setting up a special table with DD and SIL picture, flowers and wedding cake to feed the whole church.
Have a great weed-end!

Hello Everyone,
I'm back from all my troubles (for July, add the flu, a missed trip to AZ, and a car accident to all my June problems) & a nice trip to Las Vegas.
I'm READY to get back on-track with my eating. My goal is still to get to 149 by Labor Day. If I don't, I have promised myself that I will re-join Jenny Craig. I would MUCH prefer to do this on my own, but if I cannot, I WILL go back on that program.

Good Morning Everyone,
Back on track & joined the Pantry Challenge in the Food Forum. Will be eating all those veggie burgers in my freezer for a while.
Trying to do Jenny Craig on my own. Interesting how we need to learn the same lessons over and over and over and over...
I have gotten away from eating every 3 hours, and from drinking lots of water, and from eating lots of veggies. Of course, as I did that, I also increased my daily carb intake.
Today I begin teaching a new class. This time, I plan to check in here every morning BEFORE I check into my class. I NEED to keep involved with 3FC or I get into trouble.
Have a good day everyone,

Hi Bobbi, I had actually posted it in the recipe thread. See below -
Susann's Zucchini Muffins (DELICIOUS!)
Zucchini Muffins
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups shredded zucchini (about 1 large zucchini)
1 cup whole-wheat flour
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup Splenda No Calorie Sweetener (granulated)
1/3 cup brown sugar (not packed)
1/2 cup fat-free liquid egg substitute (like Egg Beaters Original)
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
3 tbsp. light whipped butter or light buttery spread (like Brummel & Brown)
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium bowl, combine both types of flour, Splenda, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
In a separate medium bowl, mix together the zucchini, egg substitute, applesauce, butter, and vanilla extract. Slowly add this mixture to the first bowl, and stir until thoroughly blended. Mix half the crushed walnuts (1 1/2 tbsp.) into the batter.
Line 9 cups of a 12-cup muffin pan with baking liners and/or spray with nonstick spray. Evenly distribute batter among the 9 cups. Top each cup with a sprinkling of the remaining 1 1/2 tbsp. crushed walnuts.
Bake in the oven for 20 - 25 minutes, until a toothpick poked into the center of a muffin comes out clean. Let cool and then enjoy!

Hi girls!
I just got back from the dentist and did the unthinkable, had a tooth pulled. That sucker had given me problems for years, didn't eat on one side of my mouth for 4-5 years. Dentist could never find the problem with the xrays so he did a root canal on it two years ago. He only found two root canals, never the third? This past week it started aching again and this time he (another dentist)said I'd have to go to a root canal specialist out of town $$$$$$$$$$$$big bucks or have it pulled. It's the last tooth on top and I decided I had enough teeth left that I didn't need it. Turns out it had 4 root canals on it, not the usual 3. Still cost me $108.00 but it certainly won't bother me again. I'm going down to sew some more on hubbys seats for the old car. Later Gator..........

Hi Gals,
We celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary yesterday but it was an unusual one to say the least. We attended a funeral for a dear friend of mine (the longest and hottest funeral I've ever been to, btw) and then went to the hospital to visit my mom. Mom is with my sister while we have a few weeks visiting our son and while she was with my sister she became jaundiced. She was admitted and was found to have a blocked bile duct. Yesterday she was supposed to have a procedure to open the duct but her neck muscles were too constricted with the Parkinson's disease and they could not pass the stint down her throat. I'm not sure what's going to happen now as we couldn't speak to the doctor as she was in surgery most of yesterday and couldn't contact my sister today. We'll be going to the hospital to visit again tomorrow so we'll find out more then, I hope.
My eating has been way out of control but I don't care right now. Once I'm back home I'll concentrate on the diet part of my life. Right now I'm enjoying our little grandson and eating too much...I'll eat very spartan when I get home. DH is very easy to please with food so it won't be hard to eat a plainer and healthier diet come August and September.
Bobbi, I hear you on the tooth stuff. Glad the tooth was in the back of your mouth. :)
I was very sorry to hear of Linda's health problems. I hope everything works out well for her and that treatments will be successful. Meowee, was one of the first persons to welcome me to 3FC when I joined last year.
Hope everyone is hanging in and doing as best they can.

Hi everyone! I thought I would pop in real quick here. Things are starting to hit "normal" again. It will be a month since Dad passed away on the 4th. My son and his family are still here and busy re-roofing my brothers house. They will be leaving to go to Florida as soon as they get finished with it. Probably the end of this week or the beginning of next. It is going to seem really quiet after having them around for the last 2 months.
My neighbor brought over 2 HUGE zuchinnis and I have never fixed them before so I plan to try the recipe for the zuchinni muffins. Hopefully tomorrow if things go well. They sound good. We had another and my son sliced it up and grilled it. It was very good.
Sure hope everyone is doing good. I hope to get back on a regular routine and back here more often soon.

Hello!
I'm taking a break from the upholstering work, my fingers are sore. This morning I was picking a few raspberries from the garden and ran in the house screeming. I swear I'll never go in the garden again. A huge black garder snake was sunning itself, must have been 2-3 feet long. Arrrrrrrg, I hate snakes. Fortunately we don't have many, that's the 3rd one I've seen in the 30 years we've lived out here.

Have been spending much of my time going back and forth to the hospital to visit my friend. Was supposed to visit other friend tomorrow (she's starting to have memory/thinking problems), but now will probably need to be on hand to get my friend home from the hospital.
I thought August would be the turning point, but looks like I've got some more not-so-pleasant times on my horizon.

Morning all!
Seems like summer never really got here and it's August 6th already. We set a record in our area for the coldest July recorded. Bummer!
Lynn...sorry to hear of your friends problems, unfortunately we're all going to see that happen to friends and ourselves as we get older.
Memory problems are always in the back of my mind since my mom died of Alzheimrers 3 years ago. I think I'd rather die of some disease than lose precious memories of loved one.
Hi Gayle and Karen, what ever happened to Karen from Florida that did all the entertaining with Bridge games?

Hi Ladies,
I hope you don't mind if I join you all, and start posting. My name is Wilma, and I will be golden in 25 days so I didn't see any sense in posting in the 40+ section. I am happily married, have 3 grown sons, 3 grandson's, and 1 very precious granddaughter. I have lost weight in the last year, messed up big time, and gain most of it back.
I am so determined to do this and keep it off this time. I am using the walking away the pounds DVD's to help with my exercise. I work in a kitchen, and it makes it difficult, but I am taking all of my own food, and refuse to eat any there.

Thanks for posting this Bobbi, I am the opposite of vegetarian also, but I love anything made with garbanzo beans. I have a garbanzo bean salad I make using cucumber, and tomatoes also. I am definately going to try this one.

Thanks Bobbi, I use a recipe very similar to that and it is truly delicious regardless of which side of the cupboard you eat from. :D We usually have it on sandwiches. I'll try this one with the brown mustard, too.
Rosey, it's hard when children move away regardless of how old they are. Thank goodness we can communicate quite cheaply with internet and email, etc. I was just looking at an old photo from the 1940s when a church member left to go away to college. The whole church membership turned out at the train station to see them off because they wouldn't see or hear from them for years (except by letter). I'm glad we don't live like that anymore.
Hi Wilma and you're more than welcome to post a few days prior to your golden birthday.
I haven't posted in such a long time. We have gone through such a sad time in our family. My mom who was visiting my sister for a few weeks passed away very suddenly. We are still in shock but I thought I'd post and let you know I'm not abandoning the "fat fight" but just may need a few more days to adjust to life without mom. I'll fill in more details later.

Hello all,
Always checking in, but don't always have anything to tell.
Rosey ~ sorry for the sadness of your daughter and family moving away. Been there.......I understand.
Retiredone ~ sorry for the loss of your mom ~ I can only imagine
Lynn ~ echoing what Bobbi said ~ sorry to hear of your friends problems
Bobbi ~ how is the work on the car coming?
Bobbi said ~ unfortunately we're all going to see that happen to friends and ourselves as we get older...........
I am experiencing that too. I reconnected with one of my girlfriends from childhood on the Facebook ~ found out she has cancer. Her brother said she is not doing well ~ she doesn't talk about it ~ doesn't want people feeling sorry for her. Then, recently one of my coworkers also was diagnosed with cancer. These ladies are my age ~ 54.
I had my physical the other day ~ the dr found a lump on my neck and sent me for an ultrasound to find out what was going on. I'm trying not to worry, but........My fear is that I will get sick before it is time to retire and never get to enjoy that phase of life. Sorry for the glum thoughts ~ thank you for listening.
Getting ready for work here. One more night then some nights off ~ yippee.
Take care

Hello all,
Have been off work the weekend ~ yippee. One more night off then back to work. Have some dr's appointments tomorrow.
Got to spend time with the grandkids on Saturday night. I'm loving that. Got to see son Jason too. Got to visit with my friend Lucille via instant message. Had fun watching the Houston Astro's/Arizona Diamondback's baseball game on TV this afternoon. Sara got tickets through her work and she, Corbin and Robert got to go and were sitting in an area where the cameras caught site of them quite often ~ so got to see them on TV.
Welcome Martha :)
Better get to bed now ~ have to get around early tomorrow.
Hope you all are doing well.

Hi Girlfriends!
Gosh, I've never had so many irons in the fire as this summer. I've been working on the '32 chevy seat covers, still have the ceiling and paneling. Gonna put that on hold because we're getting rid of lots of MIL stuff since we moved her into nursing home. Rummage sale in three days, I spent all day marking and boxing for the sale. My brother has lots of long tables he's bringing over to DD house so we can set everything up. We're having it at DD house since we live out in the country. My garden is producing zillions of zuchinnis, tomatoes, lettuce. All my apples are turning red and tomorrow I'm going to make some applesauce with all that have fallen to the ground. Busy, busy. Sorry I haven't taken the time to gab but there is not enough hours in the day. You all have a good one.

Hello all,
Well, the dr's appointment was upseting and frustrating. For the first time, my fasting blood sugar was elevated ~ not very much ~ only 113 (I think she said 100 is the high normal). But she wanted me to start on an oral diabetic medication. She has given me 3 months to see if I can lose some weight and bring the number down. I sure hope I can do it ~ I don't want to add one more diagnosis to my list of health problems. Then, still no answer about that lump on my neck. The hospital where I had the ultrasound done faxed the results (they thought) to my dr. Come to find out they faxed it to the wrong number and my dr never got it. Grrrrrr. So I have to wait longer to find out. Hoping that it will just be nothing.
I am thankful that other things (lab tests) were ok. Again ~ thank you for listening/reading.
Nights off over ~ back to work tomorrow. Oh well.......
Hope everyone is doing ok.
Take care

Hi gals. Welcome Martha. As Bobbi said it's going to get chattier as the cool weather brings us all inside again.
I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. It's just a yearly check-up but I hope everything's ok.
I'm going through mom's clothing and trying to figure out what to keep and what to give away. And I still don't have everything put away from DS's wedding this summer.
Bobbi send me a few zucchini. I'll take a few dozen off your hands.
I've been having such a hard time with food since mom died. It seems as if once 9 pm comes I'm stuffing my mouth with just about anything edible. I'm hungry all the time but the night is the worse time of all. All the schedule is gone from my life right now. School starts in 2 weeks so DH will be back on the bus and that will bring some order to my days. Today was the best day so far unless I start eating. I'm feeling so hungry and I want a big piece of cake or french fries, etc...I should go to bed. Can't eat if I'm sleeping. :D

Hmmm - no August thread?
I'm still alive. Doing HORRIBLE with eating - doing fine with exercise. Up about 5 lbs. Seeing my nutritionist tomorrow.
Sitting here watching the news shows about Ted Kennedy - feeling sad - thinking about the people in my life who are gone - especially my brother who looked & acted just like Ted, but hated him & my DH who didn't look or act anything like him but loved him. Feeling sad at another chapter in my life closed.

I'm desperately trying to get back on track with eating. This will be day 3 of not eating horribly if I can do as well as the last 2 days. I haven't started using fitday yet but I'm trying to keep portions in control and not eat around the clock. Last night I had to fast for a blood test this morning so that actually helped me not to eat as I wanted to get the blood test done early this morning so I could eat breakfast afterwards. Once I get this eating under control then it's back to serious exercise.
I guess it's too late for an August thread as September is right around the corner.

I think we've all gone by the wayside if you ask me. I haven't posted much because it's a busy time just like all of you. And with business comes the lack of control, lack of documenting our food, exercises, etc. I know I haven't used my kitchen scale for months. I haven't been on the scale for a long time either, hence the lack of activity on the challenge thread. I don't know why I even signed up for it, maybe I thought it would get me out of the lazy zone? Might take DNT!
Lynn you're not alone, join the club.
Isabella, how about keeping large bowls of popcorn handy? Drink lots of water with it.
Glynne and Rosey, how's it going?
DH just left with a jeep loaded down with rummage sale stuff, the balance we'll take over at 6 a.m. in the morning. Unfortunally we'll have to unpack all the boxes in the morning for the sale. Her garage is small.:?:
You all have a great Thursday!

3 days down and thousands left to go. :D Today is day 4 and so far so good. Yesterday I even got 5k on my exercise bike and picked blueberries. Picked again today also but the wind was so high and chilly we didn't stay out long. The berries are wild and free for the picking. I have about 4 large gallon bags frozen or about to be frozen so we're set for blueberries for the winter. DH will probably want to go again sometime next week or even the weekend.
Bobbi and the rest of you we'll get back in first gear this fall. The summer is so laid back that scales, both kitchen and bathroom, go on vacation.

Hello all,
Well, some good news ~ that lump was just slightly enlarged thyroid gland. They want me to have another ultrasound in 6 mo to keep a check on it.
The part about the dr wanting me to start on diabetic meds was maybe a good thing too. I desperatly don't want to do that, so I have stopped fooling around and been doing the right things food wise ~ exercise I need to work on. Have started to lose. I've got until November when I go back and see her to lose as much as I can and bring that blood sugar number down. Maybe this was the scare I needed to get me on the right track.
Getting ready for work. Looking forward to my days off.

Hi everyone,
Been gone so long there is no way I can catch up, so i'll start from here. It's been a good summer in some ways. Lovely weather. No so good in others. First I hurt my shoulder, and now i sprained/strained my foot. Seem like my body is falling apart on me. I have gained weight but am begining to lose again. Eating seems to be under controle. But as you all know, it's day to day. We do the best we can.
Gayle, Glad to hear that the lump is ok. And you can get that sugar down if you work hard. It's not that high. But you need to add some exercise in there too. I know you can do it.
Rosen, congratulations on your 40th wedding ann. I just celebrated my 45 on the 31. Doesn't seem like I could have been married all those years.
Lynn, I was really sad to see Kennedy go too, especially before he had a chance to vote for the medical bill. He has tried so hard to get medical for all Americans! Great family. Remember when His brother (JFK) voted medicade into effect?
Bobbi, I think we all need to get serious here. And we will!
