Good Morning Gang

Can ya believe it is July already! half of this year is gone which means Christmas is closing in fast LOL

I've been on a roll for 2 weeks so I'm hoping to keep that "roll" and have a great :running: month in July.

I did 2 miles this morning. I used the old WATP Heart Healthy Walk. I didn't feel like getting up this morning but I did so I think it ought to count for double :p

What did everybody else do today?
hugs,
Cathy

I did 2 miles last night. I think I will have to take today "off", my RA kicked in good last night after I worked out. It seems I can do about 3 days in a row, and then my body (joints) scream for a break. Tomorrow, the plan is to try the 5 mile walk again and see how far I get.

I hope you don't mind me posting. I just restarted WW 2 days ago and am starting my exercise AGAIN! So I am slow to start. I did the 1 mile this morning. Which is an accomplishment for me after going so long without exercise at all. Have a great day! Hugs, Chrissy

Good morning! I was *going* to take yesterday off, but then I did 2.5 miles anyway! I was bolstered by a complement from hubby. He NEVER EVER(!) says a word about it, complements or otherwise, nor any encouragement. So last night when he said, "I've noticed your back end is lifting up" I nearly fainted! And immediatly went in and did 2.5 miles! :carrot: Still no weight loss. I KNOW I always say I don't care, I just want to be healthy, that is still true. But DANG it would be nice to drop a few. I've spent years obssessing over that stupid number on that stupid scale, and I don't want to go back to that because it caused me to develope an eating disorder, that I STILL struggle with from time to time. *sigh* I guess I'll just be happy that hubby actually DOES notice now and then and leave it at that.

yesterday morning I did the 30D again and the 4big miles before really starting the 4th of July. I knew I need the exercise becuase the day was going to be full of eating not so healthy.

Today I will wait to workout until this evening those workouts are really kicking me but I don't want to quit! I am determined to go 30 days without stopping

Was camping this weekend so didn't get a workout in since Thursday before we left. This afternoon I did the Big Burn (2 miles with intervals) and this evening I did the 1 mile Burn Body Fat with 2 pound hand weights! It feels so good to take care of ME!!:carrot:

Kim K great job on the 4 really big miles I did the 4 really fast miles LOL

anyway all those dvd's go so fast. I really like the 5 mile burn. with boosted walking at the end of each mile...it is only 10 min longer and you hardly notice until you are done.

well I hope all this hard work pays off in better health, tone body and some weight loss

Kim K

Thanks nancylmrn! I totally believe that Leslie's videos are helping me to lose weight and get healthy! I've heard it said that losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise, but I believe the exercise does more than that amount for me because I was a total couch potato before, and now I get up and move! I think my body loves it and I think it keeps my metabolism up too. There are so many benefits to exercise! Lets get healthy ladies!!! :running: :)

I used to be living proof that you CAN diet and loose weight without exercise. All the times I've dropped this extra 45 pounds, was with diet alone. However!! (a HUGE however!), I don't even want to THINK about all the muscle tone I've lost over the years, and how the 45 pounds usually came back as all fat. Exercise is the only way to prevent that. So I'm with ya!

I did 3 miles saturday, 3 miles sunday, and took a break yesterday. I had to baby sit my grand daughter for a few hours and it was too late by the time she left. I have to baby sit for several hours each night this week so her mom can teach VBS at her church, so the plan is to walk after the baby goes home which should be around 8ish each night. I've been using the ab belt every session for about a week. Love the ab belt!!

I'm new to this thread, I do the WATP dvd's as well. Yesterday I did the 3 mile express with the stretchy band. I am going to go try to find some more of her vids today, because I want to try something new, maybe the 5 mile.

Well chickies I did the 5 mile burn last night, my legs felt like lead for the first 20 min but I worked through it

Tonight I am going to do one of my old Firm dvd using my wieghts working on my upper and lower body...they need some tonning

cathy the 30ds is Juillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. it is hard and it breaks down into 3 sections/levels of difficulty. I am going to stop doing it I don't like her personality to much like a boot camp for me but others seem to find it motivating I am just not one of them

HollyMolly....I have been doing the 5 mile burn and you all know I love it. But tonight I did my old "firm" dvd 35min upper body, 45min lower using 3&5lb weights and step stool. Talk about heart rate moving up and sweating...darn I think I lost 5lbs in water LOL

I think I will reserve those "firm" dvd's for just a few days a week and stick to my 5 mile burn and 5 mile advanced

WOW EVERYBODY IS DOING GREAT!!!!

Welcome Linzluv! it's great to have you walking with us.

I did 2 miles this morning. I didn't want to do one of the 30 dvds that I already have, so I went online to exercise tv and typed in /startwalking like someone had posted last week and did the American Heart Association Start Walking at Home 2 mile workout. sometimes I just need something that I haven't done before ;)

hope everybody has a great :running: day!

Hey ladies, just checking in. Yesterday I bought WATP 2 mile walk/jog intervals. Its 30 mins long, got me very sweaty! It must have been an older video though, the filming is not that great, but who cares, as long as the work out was!

I'm just wondering....I'm thinking of trying the 1 or 2 mile walk dvd's with 1.5 lb ankle weights. Just curious if anyone here has tried that?

Michele L
07-09-2009, 04:02 PM
Leslie recommends (and I totally AGREE) that you should NOT use ankle weights while walking! Use the ankle weights while sitting or lying down for some great leg work, but it is dangerous to walk and wear weights at the same time!

LINZLUV
07-09-2009, 04:21 PM
I think you're suppose to put the weight on your wrists, depending how heavy they are. She has a DVD that actually comes with wrist weights.

hey gang

i did Sweatin to the Oldies 4 this morning. a friend brought it to me to try since she heard i was looking for some variety. can't say i really liked it bec i stayed a step behind him all the time. all i can say is they must practice a really long time to get all their moves down. i've never felt so uncoordinated. i really like the music and at times when i didn't know what the heck the next move was i was just walking in place so i could keep moving

soooooo tomorrow it will be back to walking with Leslie ;-)

hope everybody has a great :running: day!

Yesterday I didn't get in a formal workout, but I logged almost 15000 steps while shopping with my daughter! I think that counts for something!

This morning she is at driver's ed followed by volleyball camp, so I have most of the day to myself. I chose to do Walk Off 10 Pounds (3 miles) as my walk. I may do more later, since I have the uninterrupted time!

nancylmrn
07-15-2009, 12:12 AM
Well it has been a few days but wanted to catch you all up...have gone back to the 5 mile burn. You know that one so far has been my favorite. But I still need to do a bit of toning if you all know a good dvd that can do that and keep my heart rate up I will kiss you!

Did I ever say how much the WATP dvd keep me motivated? I look forward to it each night

Kim K
07-15-2009, 03:16 AM
Hi nancylmrn! That's so cool that you're motivated by Leslie's vids. I consider her my personal trainer so I get up and do it whether I feel like it or not! She motivates me too. She seems like the nicest person! I'm sorry I don't have any toning vids to recommend, maybe the other chicks have some ideas!

Nancy,
I too am a WATP girl:) I really like the simplicity of Leslie's workouts, I think anyone can do them. No dancy moves or difficult to follow steps...just basically "walking", side steps, kicks & knee lifts. That being said, Leslie has several strength training & toning dvd's using light weights, ankle weights, the fit cuff and stretchie band. One of my favorites is "Walk Strong" (pink cover with Leslie's photo on front). Its 30 minutes of "walking" & strength training (using light weights) intervals. There is also Leslie's Walk Slim Fast Firming dvd using the stretchie band or Walk & Firm, also using the stretchie resistance band. Walk the Walk Firm Walk is another good one with upper & lower strength training workouts. Or Shortcuts, which uses light weights & ankle weights. I've recently ordered Firm Off Weight Walk but haven't received it yet, it incorporates weights as well. There's also Walk Away Your Waistline using the walk away belt (a fantastic invention) & Walk Away Your Hips & Thighs using the fit cuff. Both are excellent. I buy most of my WATP dvd's on Ebay and have gotten good deals....some even offer free shipping:) You can also go to http://www.collagevideo.com and watch clips of a lot of Leslie's (as well as other's) dvd's.
Keep up the good work! I agree, Leslie is a great motivator. I actually look forward to my workout's as well.
All the best to you!:)

Well, girls, I got super-motivated and added an hour (3.3 miles) on the treadmill yesterday afternoon! My pedometer read over 17500 when I went to bed last night:D! This morning I did Burn Body Fat 3 miles using 1 pound weights for the first mile and 2 pounds for the rest. I'm not quite ready to go to 3 pounds all at once.

Sounds like everyone else is doing well, too. Keep up the great walking!

Hey Gang,

I did 3 miles this morning. I used 2 different videos bec the one I was trying to do at exercise tv kept lagging on my computer and just about drove me crazy LOL.

I got my bloodwork back yesterday and my triglycerdies are a little high. My cholesterol is really good so I'm glad about that but it's a wakeup call for me that I've been LAX LAX LAX on my diet and my walking. So I'm committed (again) to eating right and walking at least 5 mornings a week, no matter what.

hope everybody has a great :running: day!

jersey and kim thanks for the help

I have been doing my 5 mile burn each night (well except for one night) I was looking back at my exercise calendar (I really keep a calendar and put stickers on it each day I work out:dizzy:) which I started when I decided to become fit all 53 days now I have worked out 46 days! :carrot: thats not bad i would say -- only 7 non workout days

My goal would be to keep this up for life and get off my hypertension medication-which btw contributes to my weight gain

Hello everyone,

I've just joined this community and I am so excited to have found you guys! I am going to join WW Monday evening and I am planning to use my Walking Away the Pounds dvds as I work towards a lifestyle change. I've used the dvds before and I know they are awesome, but I have fallen off the wagon in recent years. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you, and I am looking forward to learning from all of your knowledge.
For me, the hardest part of the the Walking Away the Pounds dvds is getting started with them. Once I'm going, I love the way they make me feel.
WW is where I have run into the wall in the past. I have tried it and given up before, but I don't want to do that this time. I know it's an excellent program and I am going to stick with it. Any encouragement is much appreciated and I will look forward to our journey together.
By the way, I love the cool weight loss charts you guys have at the end of your postings. How do you do that?

Thanks and I'll look forward to visiting soon!

Well tonight I decided to mix things up
I put in the 1 mile jog, I have never done it before --finished the jog part, it went pretty quick then it went into toning using some band that I don't have so I put it back to the jog and did that a second round. Then the sillly part of me thought hmm that was not a long enough work out so I popped in the 3 and 4 mile advanced workout and I did the 3 mile thing with the band I am not sure how long all this was together but I am pooped out! :o

have any of you ever done dvd's back to back? should I just stick to one?

MidwestMom
07-20-2009, 02:27 AM
ok question I got 3 of the WatP vids for my b day this past week and well ok I tried one it was the 30 minute walk one... and well I haven't worked out in forever I only did about 15 to 20 minutes of it and the next day I was trashed with pain in my thighs... is this normal in the beginning should i just work though it or give myself a day or so to get better before trying it again ...

JerseyGyrl
07-20-2009, 07:25 AM
One of the advantages of Walk Away The Pounds is that you can go at your own pace & do what you can....especially in the beginning. I've heard Leslie instruct people numerous times on numerous dvd's to do what they can & if anything gets uncomfortable to go back to "walking" & to keep movements small. If you haven't worked out in a while, you will find the dvd's challenging ,particularly at first. Do what you can, the important thing is to move.

cathyxxx
07-20-2009, 10:25 AM
Good Morning Gang

I did 2 miles this morning. I used the Heart Healthy Walk.

MidwestMom - I don't think the pain in your thighs should be that bad. I would check your tennis shoes first. Are they new with good support? or old and worn out? that could be part of the problem. As JerseyGirl mentioned you should work at our own pace. I can see being a little sore the next day after working out for the first time, but not "trashed with pain in your thights".

Hey Nancy - I have done different dvds back to back, and I've done 1 mile out of one work out and 1 mile out of another. You can mix things up anyway you like. I like a lot of variety with these walks. YOU GO GIRL!

Christy - CONGRATS on the lifestyle change! I'm so glad you are joining us here! it'll be great to get to know you.

I hope everybody has a great :running: day!

Can I join?

I do water aerobics as my main form of exercise, but it only lasts the summer, and it's only 3 days a week. I can't run right now (old sports injury + shin splints) so back to walking it is for me!

Today I did the 3 Mile Weight Loss Walk. The second mile is taught by a guest instructor, Mary Kay, and OH MY LORD it is hard. She doesn't let you stay in one place at all! This workout used handweights, too.

I get my DVDs off Netflix because I get bored WAY too easily to buy, so I don't own any of the fancy equipment that comes when you buy the DVDs. So yes. That is where I am.

I am going to look into the 5 mile walk you guys were talking about. Sounds fun!

Hi, all! I've had a bad week. Haven't worked out since last Wed (15th) and pedometer steps are LOW, too :( . Got my act together today and did the 4 mile Punch Up Your Walk with the weighted gloves. Forgot how great that one is! My arms will be scolding me tomorrow, but it was a sweaty one!

Cathy: I don't think the new Belly Fat walk is available until August 4, so I don't have it yet. It's on my Wish List and my b-day is the 1st, so maybe.....

:welcome2: to all the newbies! We love having more walkers!

Have a great week, everyone!

Michele - I can't believe you haven't tried the Belly Flat walk before it even comes out LOL duh on me. I knew it wasn't out yet. don't know why I thought you might have tried it. I must have been having a "moment" or something LOL

Okaaaaaaaaaaaay.

I did water aerobics for an hour this morning, and I thought since my pedometer steps were high anyway (my SO's sister and I did the cha-cha slide over and over and over while we were making dinner) that I would go ahead and do the 3 miles again and finish my steps.

Uhhh...not so much.

I made it through about a mile and a half, and that was the end of that. Oh well, tomorrow is another day, and I don't have water aerobics tomorrow. Better luck next time. :D

OK me and that 5 mile burn are really getting to be cozy LOL  I think out of all of the ones I have that is my favorite. I really get into it and even mile 5 I am still going pretty strong. I just wish there was a way on that dvd to mute her voice and just hear the music some days. I guess I really enjoy the challange of the 'boosted walking' I wish she had more dvd's like it.

anyway I am always looking for some varity that challenges me do you all have other favorites that combine some simple high/low areobics?

WOW - EVERYBODY IS DOING GREAT!!! :running:

I did 2 miles this morning. I used the old WATP 2 mile and used 2 lb handweights durnig the 2nd mile.

Kim - I'm not Michele but I can answer your question.;) She got that one and some other new box sets at Target. They were only being sold in Target stores and my Target store didn't carry them so I don't have them :(

Nancy - do you have all three 5 mile dvds? there is the 5 mile Fat Burning Walk and 5 Day Slim Down and the older 5 mile Advanced Walk. I like all of them. Also another good one is the Walk Slim 4 Fast Miles. I find all of the dvds on the Walk Slim series to be challenging and most of it has the boosted walking.

hope everybody has a great :running: day ;)

Cathy: My birthday is August 1

Kim: Cathy is right, that I got Punch Up Your Walk and 5 other walks at Target. They are supposed to be coming to target.com sometime soon, but not sure when. Last I checked my target still had all of the walks and they were clearanced to $9.98 each (I paid $17.98 each AFTER a $2 coupon off each one)! In addition to that one, which comes with weighted gloves, there's one that comes with the ab belt, one that comes with a pedometer, one that comes with 2 stretchie bands (different strengths), one that comes with the fit-cuff and one that comes with a snap-on weighted belt. There's a total of 19 miles between the walks, too. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE every one of them!

Today I really had to talk myself into walking, so I chose an easier walk: Walk This Way, which is a 2 mile beginner's walk (no boosted walking). It was nice to be able to say I did something, even though it was shorter than yesterday's workout!

Cathy: Thank you for the additional information! :) I think I'm going to buy the 'Advanced 5 Mile Walk'!

Michele: Thank you for telling me all about the boxed sets at Target! You are so lucky to have got them all!!! I'm going to check out my Target & Target.com. :cheer3:

You ladies are so inspiring! :carrot:

Tonight I did the 3 Mile Power Walk again, except I did it with my sister, who plays softball (She's 5'4" and 130 pounds...so jealous!!) and she was pretty winded. We did it late and it was pretty challenging, but I made it all the way through. A couple of times she had to get in my face and yell "NEVER GIVE UP!!" but it worked, and I made it. I don't know why it's so hard, I thought I was in better shape than that, but I guess not.

My plan is to get up early and do it again tomorrow morning, because I'm giving blood and can't afterwards, but I am not so sure that is going to happen.

My next DVD on Netflix is 5 Day Slim Down! Can't wait. It should be here Saturday.

 good morning gang

I did 2 miles this morning. I used the A Closer 2 Mile Walk.

Everybody is doing great with all their walking! :cp:

Michelle - I can't believe that your Target has them marked down to $9.98. wow what a deal! and hey, on the days that we don't feel like walking - and we do it anyway - I think it ought to count for double ;)

I'm excited bec I have some new dvds coming. I ordered the Walk Now with Brittany, the AHA Start Walking 3 mile, and the Burn Body Fat package with the 1 and 2 lb hand weights.

hope everybody has a great :running: day!
hugs,
Cathy

Cathy: You ordered some GREAT ones! I don't have the AHA set (yet), but I have all the others and really LOVE the BBF set! I think if I don't get the AHA set or the Walk Off Belly Fat one for my birthday, I'll get them for myself! Just have to be patient for another 10 days ;) !

This morning I did Belly, Buns & Thighs (3 miles) with the fit cuff. I was a SWEATY mess at the end! But it was great!

If you're checking to see if your Target has the newer walks, check an endcap back between toys and sporting goods. They did not seem to do a very good job of promoting these walks, even though they are GREAT! On Leslie's site, we've been complaining because many of her Club members cannot get these walks. We were told about them and emailed a coupon (which is now expired), but couldn't order them in her store. They tell us that the walks will be available at some point at target.com, but not sure when. If you can't find them, pm me and we might be able to work something out if we can agree on shipping costs.

On to the rest of my day :dizzy:

kim K I think the 5 mile burn is the 5 mile one I have; I actually have two of the 5 mile ones this one and the 5 mile advance that used the band, weights, and waist thing (I don't have that part) I have 3 dvd with 4 mile walks on them but I don't remember off the top of my head what they are called. I know one of them has the boosted walking with someone named Jimmy LOL the things you remember when you are working :D

I have noticed I was getting bored with the 5mile one so tonight to challenge myself I put on a pair of 1lb ankle weights.....holy moly what a difference 2lbs can make...ouch but I did it. Tomorrow I am going to do the same thing but move the weights to my wrists. Then I will start to alternate just to spice things up.

The ankle weights are only to be used when doing specific sitting or laying down exercises for the legs, thighs & back end. They aren't meant to be used while walking & can in fact, be dangerous. Leslie mentions this on 1 of the dvd's....I'm not positively sure which one it is.

Thanks for the insight jerseygyrl, I would never have thought they would harm. I did a google search and read up on it and won't do that again. So to spice it up maybe I jog when everyone is power walking -- whoo hoo

Ok tonight I treated myself to a non-food reward. Since I have been doing the watp dvd's I wanted to make sure I was keeping within my target heart rate so I bought a monitor that has a chest strap and watch. Well Leslie was keeping me where I need to be. According to formula used to calculate THR I should keep it between 101-154 and my was pretty steady between 135-145 with peaks up to 157 when doing the boosted. They had one that would give you the calories used too but with my eyesight I don't think I could have read to readings on the same dial so I opted just for the target zone

Kim K

Nancy - that's a cool reward! it's nice to know that Leslie's keeping your heart rate up there. I know she's got mine up there too ;)

I did 2 miles this morning. I used the new Walk Now and really like it. Brittany is really good about telling you what is coming next and counts down 4, 3, 2, 1 to get ya there.

Hope everybody has a great :running: day!

I did 3 miles, again, last night, with some strength training before it.

Then I began to run a low-grade fever. After drinking my body weight in Gatorade, I feel much better today. I think I'm going to do 1 or 2 of the miles tonight but maybe not all 3. DEFINITELY doing Yoga. DEFINITELY.

I skipped it last night and I can TOTALLY tell a difference.

did not workout last night I had to work late and today was kinda a wipeout, we are having record heat here and i do not have air conditioning. I tried to do the 4 fast miles and got past the intervals but our home was so hot I was starting to feel a bit dizzy so I quit...that was a first for me i have never stopped in the middle before

I drank water while I worked out and when I quit I kept walking sipping my water. I noticed my heart rate was not going down then the intestinal craps - I am sure you got the picture

OK CHICKIES don't work out in excessive heat it is not worth it

Haven't done a walk with Leslie in over a week, but I've been using my Wii. Today is my 43rd birthday and I'm NOT happy with my weight! So I've re-committed and this morning I've already done Walk Slim 2 miles. I'm about to go add Fast Firming. Those 2 things are today's Walk Club item from Leslie's website and I'm going to try to stick to the calendar this month and see how that helps.

Have a great weekend!

Good afternoon. New month, new house, new attitude is what I am trying as my new focus. I have no place to exercise in this little temporary house, so when I went looking for ideas about exercise, I ventured into this area and found you. WATP is exactly what I need for the smaller space we have. I think I was getting bored with the treadmill, so I wasn't doing it. I have signed up for the 10 Day Challenge, when I found out that there was a walking website. So, thank you all for your help. I am not ready for the videos listed on the Challenge, but I bought the 5 Day Slim Down to get started. That is where I am headed as soon as I get my e-mails done, and I will see how it goes (I imagine you will too as I post!)
