hi guys!
Dieting with Obstacles - july thyroid threadView Full Version : july thyroid thread andreaphilip3 06-24-2002, 10:28 PM hi guys! S4ASSP 06-25-2002, 12:29 AM Where is everybody? :?: There were more people posting here for awhile. Did we scare them off? I have been feeling puny for the past few days. Bad cold which I think has turned into bronchitis. :dizzy: I go to my doctor tomorrow. I did not want to go back to him until my July appt so that I would have lost more weight. Oh well, maybe they won't weigh me tomorrow. Ha! I am going scale hunting tomorrow. I want a standing scale with weights on them. I think this would be more accurate. I might change my mind when I see the price though. Don't know how much they will be. Andrea - You must be ready for July 4th to get here. Why the early start on the thread? Not complaining - just wondering. How is life treating you? What is the latest health update with you? I only lost a half pound last week so I did not even post or mention it on WW message boards. I was disappointed in that. Maybe better this week. I have been so sick that I could not eat well. :( Talk to you later. :) Can you tell that I am trying out the Emoticons? I just love them! andreaphilip3 06-25-2002, 01:03 PM lol. i dunno where people are either. oh well. heres my deal: my seasonal allergies are really bad. it also appears(i think) that i have ammenorrhea again, though i dunno why:?: my back is finally feeling soo much better&i have begun to swim again, tyhough im nervous how my back will withstand 9 days of no treatment. if all is well after the 9 days, then i will cut it back to 2x week, then 1x, then 2x month&ultimately 1x month for good health. my weight: today ends my week this week b/c i am having family stay with us. i did manage to lose a pound, but am unhappy both due to frustration overall as well as b/c i know by 7-4, it will be back plus some b/c of my family. btw-thats why the july thread. QuilterInVA 06-25-2002, 05:39 PM Hi, guys...I'm lurking a lot of the time and will try to take the time to post a little. I will be gone with 5 of my girlfriends to Pennsylvania - Lancaster County - to the quilt shops to lay in our yearly supply of fabrics for the next year. They are at least half what we pay here and sometimes even less. We have 10 shops we go to, and have a great time away from it all, so to speak. We range in age from 36 to 60 so we are quite a group. I'm telling you right now, I might gain a pound or 2 because I am going to have some carbs - homemade hot pretzel and homemade lemonade for certain. We've been planning this trip since January so we're all eager to go. I just hope the weather is good. I should be getting a call from the doctor's office anyday now with my latest test results. Still not good I don't think from the way I feel, but better than the last time. I suppose he'll up the meds again. Andrea, I'm also allergic to most everything. I got 3 shots every week for a year and have only had to have 3 a month for the last 2 years. When my allergies are bad, my asthma goes haywire, which means my thyroid goes wacky - what a circle! I hope you are feeling better. trixiepup 06-26-2002, 03:50 AM howdy all! i've been having infrequent access to the internet since i graduated. no more ethernet. :( wah. oh well. i got my degrees and a job, so i'm happy. i think i'm going to start on my annual weight loss thing again. i seem to embark on it every june.... my mom might join me this year, so that could be cool. take care of yourselves. allergies suck. Lisa999 06-27-2002, 11:25 PM Hello! My name is Lisa. I have hypothyroidism and take Synthroid 88 mg. I started dieting in Jan. 2002 at 263 lbs. and I'm now at 191 lbs. I look forward to getting to know all of you. S4ASSP 06-28-2002, 09:09 AM Lisa - Welcome to the board. Great loss! How are you doing it? Give us some pointers. I am on WW and have been for about 1 1/2 months now. Losing some but not as fast as I want to. I take Levothroid - .175. I was on .20 but now back to .175. I was on Synthroid to begin with but doc said it was not being absorbed by my body right so she put me on Levothroid. Been on that for several years now. Look to hear from you soon. andreaphilip3 06-28-2002, 03:30 PM hi guys! welcome lisa! congrats. we missed ya trix:) i am enjoying my company, but having a very rough time with food:( im sure im gaining. Lisa999 06-28-2002, 11:43 PM Hello! Bom Bom and Andrea Thanks for the welcome. I'm on a diet of 1200 calories a day and I don't eat bread at all. I eat pasta, rice, crackers and baked chips. I have a treadmill and use it daily for 1 hour. I also, have a 4 yr. old daughter and 2 yr. old son. I was at 289 lbs. when I delivered my son. I'm 5'4" and 37 yrs. old. I am going to make it down to a healthy weight this time, because I want it to bad. My goal is 135-155. I want to be happy and enjoy my food and have treats in small portions. Portion control is working for me, I eat on a small plate not a large one. I drink 8 glasses of water a day and take a multi. vitamin daily. I lost 6 pounds this month, so my weight loss has slowed down. I started out eating 4 servings of protein, 2 fruits, 2 veg., and 2 dairy. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last summer and put on armour thyroid 66mg., then just this month my doctor put me on snythroid 88mg. I've had problems with my period only lasting 2 days instead of my regular 4 days. Have any of you had symptoms like that related to your thyroid? Lisa999 andreaphilip3 06-28-2002, 11:51 PM lisa im havin big time period prob. my last one was mothers day. still waiting.... S4ASSP 06-29-2002, 02:24 AM I had problems with my period before I quit having them in June of last year. This month, I officially was declared in menopause. (You have to be in the elite group of not having a period for a solid year before you are classified as "in menopause"). I told my new doctor that he was my good luck charm because after my first visit with him, I had no more periods. I do not have any of the night sweats or hot flashes yet. Of course, my mother nor my grandmother had many of those symptoms either. We three were late bloomers and late menopausers. I am 57 and just starting menopause. Anyway, I have been sick this week and did not lose any weight. I was so disappointed. I definitely have not eaten like I should. No exercise either. Oh well, next week is another week, and I hope I am on the road to recovery now. Lisa - your loss is fantastic - stick with your diet because it works. With children that age, how are you able to stay on treadmill so long? Andrea - Hope TOM happens for you shortly which is a mixed blessing! Talk to you guys later. It feels good to feel good again.:D andreaphilip3 06-30-2002, 10:21 PM i just got mine today KaterinaVHill 07-01-2002, 03:30 PM Hi all! I have hypothyroidism and am on synthroid 200mg. I just had my blood re-tested and am waiting for the results. Last time, (one month ago) one of the chemicals was off so this is a retest. I started a diet 3/1/02 and have lost 60 pounds. I just wonder if the weight loss could have affected the thyroid hormones. I dont know any thing yet. However, I am now OFF of my high blood pressure meds, and my cholestrol was 140 (down from 220). Maybe the thyroid meds will go away too. SURE HOPE SO! S4ASSP 07-01-2002, 04:13 PM Katarina - Excellent weight loss! How did you do it? What program are you following for weight loss? I am on Levothroid .175. It has been hard for me to lose the weight this time. I am on WW and love the program. This is beginning my third month, and I have lost 15 lbs. Nothing in the past week. Right now I am disappointed, but maybe this week will tell a different tale. Glad to have you join this thread. :D QuilterInVA 07-01-2002, 06:06 PM Hi, everyone, and welcome to our new friends. I was on a few days vacation and now feel refreshed and ready to go again. Doc upped my meds yet again and I have to go back in 6 weeks. I've really been through it with trying to get my dosage adjusted the last year. I jumped on the scale as soon as I got home...I didn't gain for once in my life. I ate sensibly and did a lot of walking, even though my foot is still hurting...tore a tendon. Now that I'm home, I can take better care of it. Lisa999 07-01-2002, 11:49 PM Hello! Andrea, Bom Bom, Katerina and Quilt. I ride my treadmill while my children nap. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone with the period problems. I'm also, anemic and a lot of the times I am real low energy. Susan 148 lbs. sure sounds nice. Bom Bom 15 lbs. in 3 months is great. My goal is to drop 5 lbs. this month. Katerina 200 mg. is a lot to be on isn't it? Congrats. on the 60 lbs. I was wondering the same thing as you, if weight loss causes the thyroid to act up. I go in for my retest next week. Take care, Lisa KaterinaVHill 07-03-2002, 09:31 AM Lisa999 -- Your are right, 200 mg IS A LOT! I went and checked my bottle and my dose is 200 mCg instead. (Boy do I feel stupid!) Anyway, I think that this is still a big dose, but Much Much smaller than 200 mg! S4ASSP -- I had only cut my calories to 1000 per day. I have done real well until now, but think that my metabolism is starting to slow. Now i am slowly uping my caloric intake to see where I need to be to still loose weight. Thanks for the replys and support! andreaphilip3 07-03-2002, 11:52 PM hi all&welcome kat! congrats!!!!! bom bom-i know how ya feel july 13 will be a month on ww&all ive lost is 1/2 pound so far. Tizme2000 07-08-2002, 04:46 PM Hi Girls, I have not posted on here before but I take200mg every morning of Thyroxine as well as other drugs for other problems. I was not aware that this was a high dose as have been on it for years. I live in UK and wish I could lose weight I just seem to lose the same few pounds over again never really going down. I have been told there is a special diet for people like me but as I am disabled I cannot excerise properly I have yet to find one that I can remain on without feeling sick or dizzy after just a short time. Have you any suggestions that I might try. regards, Vivienne:dizzy: andreaphilip3 07-08-2002, 06:22 PM try a low carb diet Lisa999 07-09-2002, 12:02 AM Hello to all! I am on a low carb diet and it works for me. I eat a lot of protein, fruits, veggies and diet yogurt. My goal is to take off 5 pounds a month. QuilterInVA 07-09-2002, 10:42 AM A modified low carb has worked for me. I worked it out with a nutritionist at my doctor's office. I have 3 servings of starches a day, 8 of protein, veggies, 2 of fruit, 2 of dairy and 4 of fats. I limit soy consumption and raw brocolli, cauliflower and cabbage (all bad for thyroid). I feel so much better, I can't believe it and I have lost weight...slowly. I do exercise a moderate amount walking and biking mainly. I take .200 mcg of Levoxyl daily. andreaphilip3 07-09-2002, 11:05 AM sounds great quilt! hi lisa:) Tizme2000 07-10-2002, 04:27 PM Hi Girls, No one has ever told me that brassicas are bad for me I eat oceans of greens love them, is that why I still dont feel well most of the time. What else should I not eat? I keep trying to find out but nobody seems to know anything over here, we are so far behind you in UK. Vivienne Lisa999 07-10-2002, 10:16 PM Tizme (Viv.),Andrea and Susan Hello! Hope all is well for you. I've never been told what foods to stay away from. Thanks for sharing that info. That will help me out. I just hate that my weight comes off so slow. I'm 5'4" and now am at 188lbs. I would like to see 185 by the end of July. I have been lazy lately and not getting on my treadmill. Wishing all of you great health. Lisa andreaphilip3 07-10-2002, 11:57 PM hi lisa! i know its frustrating! im 5'5 173& would like to see 150 by labor day. trixiepup 07-11-2002, 12:56 AM greetings again. i've joined the gym at work. it was depressing yesterday; i looked in the mirror while working on the precor machine, and i swear i looked just like my mom. my arms. my stomach. it was disturbing. and oddly motivating. i just can't share it with my mom. heh. i've also started lifting weights too. today was mainly arms. tomorrow will be legs. the added bonus is that the gym has ac. :) what are you guys doing in the heat for exercise? QuilterInVA 07-11-2002, 09:45 AM Good morning, all. I try to get up early (5 AM) so I can be out walking by 6 AM. If its too humid or hot, I have a stationary bike and I ride that or I do my walk aerobics VCR tape. I feel, and my doctor insists on it, better when I do a little everyday and 30 minutes is my max. Remember, it's important for us to keep moving...even if its only jumping around flailing your arms to music (which I have been known to do when I'm alone in the house and short on time). andreaphilip3 07-11-2002, 01:03 PM hi guys, i swim. i lost 2.5 this week! QuilterInVA 07-11-2002, 02:10 PM :dizzy: :) :smug: Congratulations...a great loss. Keep up the swimming! It's a great exercise. andreaphilip3 07-11-2002, 09:22 PM thanks susan:D Lisa999 07-11-2002, 10:16 PM andreaphilip3, trixiepup, and QuilterINVA Hope all of you are doing great. Andrea congrats. on the loss. Nice to know that you can relate to my situation and feelings with weight loss. trixiepup I use to lift weights and it really helps. Have fun at the gym. QuilterINVA You are so right, it is important to keep moving. You've motivated me to exercise right now. No excuses! Thanks for the support and motivation. andreaphilip3 07-11-2002, 10:23 PM thanks lisa:) i do understand your frustration believe mne, im the only here not on t roid meds. ugh! QuilterInVA 07-12-2002, 09:39 AM Good morning, ladies. What a change of weather we have had in Virginia - from high 90s earlier in the week to 60s this morning...walking weather! The weekend is upon us...time to set our resolve to stay OP, drink our water and get some exercise in! For once I don't have a quilting class to teach this weekend so I have it all to myself. I'm going to paint my bathroom - a bit of exercise in that as well. Tizme2000, there is a video called Chair Aerobics for diabled people that will really give you a workout. I have asthma so I can't always exercise, either. I usually have a harder time in the winter. andreaphilip3 07-12-2002, 11:27 AM good morning all! susan, you are correct! have fun this weekend&thanks for the video! i need it also. Tizme2000 07-12-2002, 03:45 PM Hi Girls, THanks for the info I shall try and get it if we have it in England. You are lucky with your weather all we get here is grey dull skies AND LOTS OF RAIN. Our summers seem to have gone for ever. Temps to day 60 and thats warm here we never get above 70 to 75. Vivienne andreaphilip3 07-12-2002, 04:07 PM i found them online and bought them. i bought the chair dancing, chair dancing through the decades, sit down and tone up 1 and 2, and the richard simmons sit tight. i currently have richards reach for fitness and a tape called keep fit while you sit. Tizme2000 07-13-2002, 09:17 AM Hi Girls, Thank you Quilter for the e.mail with addy on Have now gone on the site and will browse till I get it sorted. I will try and get hold of excercise tape, havent seen one about though but will look in our shops this week. I was never told to take tablets before breakfast so am going to try that as well to see if I feel better. Thet have no time for you here you pop a repeat prescription in a box and get a new one and go for months without seeing a doctor. I suppose the only thing is you get what you pay for and ours is free when senior citizen. regards and thanks for help. Vivienne andreaphilip3 07-14-2002, 12:22 AM i ordered those videos. Tizme2000 07-15-2002, 04:09 PM Hi Girls, If we order something from US it is so difficult with customs to get things delivered so we tend not to bother but I will try and get it here. Had fun today. Sitting in the garden and helecopter came in VERY low his engine on fire and crashed 450 yards from our house. We live right by the beach and the marine camp is next to us then an open field and he managed to get it down there saving hundreds of lives and all four crew managed to scramble to safety before it blew up. It shook our house rigid and all sorts of explosions going off from the gear they carry. The coast guard are with out a copter till tomorrow now so the police copter is protroling till theyt can get back into action. They missed a big holiday com-plex full of caravans and a housing estate, they were so lucky to get out alive, there is nopthing left of their craft but twisted metal. love Vivienne QuilterInVA 07-15-2002, 04:54 PM Wow, you live an exciting life! We live near a large Air Force base and have the occasional scare but so far no crashes since we've been here. Thank goodness! You might be able to find an outlet for the tapes in England or something similiar. Try doing a search for handicapped aerobics or exercise. Back on track today. I had a bad weekend, food-wise. Ate far too many carbs that I didn't even enjoy. Sometimes I wonder if my brain becomes disengaged. trixiepup 07-15-2002, 09:33 PM my mom retired this weekend, and i found a great brunch for sunday. it was sooo yummy. i had a huge salad wiht all sorts of veggies i'm too lazy to cut up on my own. and a waffle wiht strawberries. yum. i went to the gym 4 times last week, and i did cardio and weights on each visit. yea me! friday was a pissy day. the eliptical trainer attacked me, and i have a big gouge on my knee now. i love the gym in our work building. it's empty, for the most part, and i can put my cds on the sound system. :) i wonder if i can get a gre cram course and put that on the stereo....hmmmm have fun this week!! andreaphilip3 07-15-2002, 10:54 PM susan, u think we all do that from time 2 time. trixie- u go girl!!! Tizme2000 07-16-2002, 04:33 PM Hi Girls, Its the first very serious crash so close to us but as we have the special boat marines next to us we are always on the alert for terriorists. We do live life on the edge here and often get stopped and searched and car gone over with a tooth comb. My friend lives by the main gate and they know me well, but I still get sxtopped every time to try to park in her drive in case I am a car bomber. Still you cant say life is boring!!!!!! Vivienne Lisa999 07-16-2002, 11:30 PM Hello Ladies! I am now down 4 lbs. I'm at 186 lbs. and only have 1 more pound to reach my end of the month goal of 185. Feeling good and loving life. Thank you all for the support. andreaphilip3 07-16-2002, 11:32 PM go lisa!!!!! LIsa! LIsa! QuilterInVA 07-17-2002, 10:29 AM Way to go, Lisa! I know you make your goal and then some by the end of the month. Let's continue to support each other. Together we can do it! andreaphilip3 07-17-2002, 11:23 AM right on susan:) Tizme2000 07-17-2002, 01:24 PM Well done Lisa good to know it can be done losing weight with our problems, it gets shruged off here as oh its glands you will never lose weight. I only lost 2lbs for the whole month so am not impressed with myself at all. Vivienne QuilterInVA 07-17-2002, 02:44 PM Vivienne - think about the 2 pounds and what is represents by looking a 2 pounds of butter next time you go to the market. Aren't you happy you don't have to carry that around. At least you are going in the right direction, even if slowly. So give yourself a small pat on the back and fight on! Lisa999 07-17-2002, 11:09 PM Thank you all for your kind responses. Viv. 2 lbs. is good. Any loss is good. I'm just happy to not be gaining for a change. In the past I was up and down like a yo-yo. I was really in a good mood today and my loss has caused me to work harder. I jogged on the treadmill today and when I got tired, I started walking. The support here is wonderful and very much appreciated. andreaphilip3 07-18-2002, 11:45 AM viv[ i hear ya. i been on ww 5 weeks&seimming an hour+daily& have lost 2.5. sigh...:( QuilterInVA 07-19-2002, 05:15 PM Everybody off for a long weekend today? Let's set out resolve to stay OP this weekend and have a good weigh in next week. It's 98 degrees and high humidity out so no going out for me (asthma gets bad). I'll have to ride my bike this weekend unless it rains and cools things off. We are in the midst of a terrible drought. I feel like cooking this weekend so I'll be trying some new recipes. I'll let you know if anything comes out good. I've been reading up on Cytomel (T3) and I'm going to ask the doctor about prescribing it in addition to my Levoxyl (T4) when I go next month. Supposedly it really helps with the tiredness and weight loss. My doctor is pretty open to trying stuff so maybe he'll let me. andreaphilip3 07-19-2002, 06:44 PM hi sus! have a great weekend&happy cooking! Lisa999 07-20-2002, 12:39 AM Hello to all! I wish you all a nice weekend. andreaphilip3 07-20-2002, 05:04 PM have a wonderful weekend to lisa and to all:) Tizme2000 07-22-2002, 03:54 PM Hi All, Why the long week end is it a holiday in US? if it was hope you had a good time. I managed to get into the pool this week to do my excercises. It has been too cold oover here to warm the pool up and I havent got a heater for it. Hoping the weather stays in the 70s then I can swim every day. Vivienne QuilterInVA 07-22-2002, 05:30 PM No holiday in the US ... don't have any more national ones until Labor Day September 2. It's been so hot, I'd gladly send you a bit of warm weather if you could send me some cool. We desperately need rain. It has gone all around us. It's been too hot go walk, even at 6 am so I've been riding my stationary bike and doing my Walk Aerobics tape. We have a new Wal*Mart in our area that just opened up last Wednesday so I went yesterday and walked all over that place for 1 hour. I didn't actually stop and look at a lot of stuff, either - just went round and round and up and down the aisles. If you go early, there aren't too many shoppers and you can go pretty fast. After that I did do my grocery shopping. They are building a new YMCA only 2 miles from my house so I hope to get a membership and get in some water aerobics and exercise there. Only $28 month for us "seniors." What a Deal! Did okay this weekend as far as staying OP. I just love this time of year with all the fresh fruit and veggies. andreaphilip3 07-22-2002, 10:12 PM hi all! glad u went swimming viv. Tizme2000 07-23-2002, 02:27 PM Hi all, Temps dropped to 60s water cold again, if I was fit would brave it but as I am not too good thought better not. Then I realized my breathing was much easier and I wasnt coughing nearlly as much. Was very pleased about that I can tell you. I have had a meserable year with hayfever. Then last night sitting on the sofa watching TV I realized I could turn my head sideways over my shoulder havent been able to do that in ages its been a bit of a pain when driving the car. I also think it has lifted my spirits up a bit as I dont feel so weepy today but then the sun is shiniing so it might be that. We get so little sunshine here now. Well I think thats not bad for only one session. Have booked another in for next week. She is going to try and get my legs painfree again so I can walk and excercise. Keep you posted. regards, Vivienne andreaphilip3 07-26-2002, 02:46 PM great viv! im soo happy 4 ya! Lisa999 07-27-2002, 12:46 AM Hello Andrea and Tizme (Viv) Congrats. Andrea on your weight loss. Viv I hope you get to feeling better soon. The massage sounds nice. I'm doing pretty good, I've lost another 2 pounds. I'm 183 lbs. now.
