So I'm going to start Jillian's other videos this weekend, No More Trouble Zones and Burn Fat Boost Metabolism.

I plan on switching them out each day. Would anyone like to try these out with me or should I stick to the 30DS thread?

I'm interested in getting those. I have the 30D shred which I'm getting tired of. Are her other videos similar in intensity? I love the idea of switching it up between three dvd's, as well as the wii.

Sorry that this doesn't answer your question, but I'm psyched to see the replies.

Sometimes you can just watch those videos on youtube...it might save you having to buy it....if you can do the exercise where your computer is...........

You should definately give them a try!

I got bored with the Shred about a month ago so I just purchased both No More Troubles Zones and the Banish Fat one. So far I have tried Banish Fat and it was amazing. I am officially a Jillian disciple. I have literally never seen my face so red in my entire life haha! It was crazy but in a good way. She repeats a lot of the moves from the Shred, I just love the circut format because if there are any moves that you hate, you only have to do them for a minute or so!

Anyways I plan to try ot alternate both dvd's 5 days a week. I will be trying No Morw Trouble Zones tomorrow and I am stoked!

Sweet! I get them for free with Comcast's On Demand. At least I hope I do, they were both on there when I started the Shred.

From what I've seen these videos are similar to 30DS but are around 40 minutes long.

I'm excited to give them a try! Now I just need to decide which one I try first on Saturday.

Optical Goddess: I would say her two other videos are similar in intensity to the Shred- I noticed in the Banish Fat Boost Metabolism one though, there are circuts that were a little (I stress little) lower impact I think just to bring the intenisty down since it is 40 minutes as opposed to 20 minutes. She does also allow you 2 or 3 5 second breathing breaks throughout the dvd which is a refreshing change from the Shred which was all "NO RESTING!". At the same time I love just jumping from one move to another because then when you have been doing to dvd for a while, you don't have to waste time waiting for them to explain each move.

Overall it is similar to the Shred but not as constant with the intensity- certain parts are waaaay harder than the Shred, certain parts are a little lower impact. I will have to comment on the No More Trouble Zones one tomorrow!

I have both of the dvd's and they are awesome.
The no more trouble zones is hard, and intense. Its longer than forty minutes, its got 7, 6 minute circuits plus a warm up and a cool down.
It is similar to the shred, but like Cooperistic mentioned, there are a few parts to catch a breath, its not constantly gogogogo like the shred.

Banish fat is all cardio, but it was pretty low impact.

I have been doing the Banish fat for my cardio, and alternating the shred, and NMTZ on my strength days. Its been working pretty well. Keeps things interesting.

So I tried NMTZ this morning and it was intense! It was strange not having cardio mixed in. It felt really long because the circuits weren't as defined as in 30DS. I did enjoy it though. I'm kinda nervous for BFBM tomorrow.....

Well I finished the BFBM this morning for the first time. It was pretty tough! I am still sore and tight from yesterday's video. I'm liking it though.

I have one question for anyone who is doing NMTZ and BFBM- She does this ab move where you are in plank position and you are supposed to twist your hips to work your abs. I must be doing something wrong because I feel no work whatsoever on my abs, all I feel is pains in the side of stomach. Did anyone else have trouble with these? She uses this move in all three of her dvds so I would like to get it right!

festivus
06-22-2009, 02:26 PM
Well, they are supposed to work your obliques, which are the your side abdominal muscles. So if your side hurts then you are doing it right! You should also feel it in your upper abs though. Make sure you are in a full plank pose with your arms going straight down and your legs stretched all the way out. If you keep your butt to high in the air, then you won't get the full effect. Also really work on pivoting your whole hip when you do the move.

Count me in! (well next week anyway, taking a vacation) I loved the shred, it has toned me up and I have never seen that before. I wore shorts for the first time ever since being a kid this week. Anyway, I am gonna try both and alternate like you wantingtolose, kinda nervous...She hasn't let me down yet, so I REALLY hope this no more trouble zone works!

Are any of her other videos half an hour or shorter? Just cuz I get up early to do 30DS and I'm not looking forward to having to get up even earlier...I know I know it'd only be another 10 minutes but sleep is also essential for weight loss *angelic expression*

Yes, I've been doing all 3 of Jillian Michaels videos. I do No More Trouble Zones, Burn Fat Boost Metabolism and the 30 Day shred videos--when I do the latter I do two workouts a time so it's an hour workout. I like them all--though I skip the 30 day shred one the most cos it has a lot of pushups which hurt my bad shoulder. They're great videos and I'm surprised I don't tire of them. I know them well enough I can turn up other, better music!

I know what you mean about the plank/oblique twists. I don't find them especially hard which makes me wonder if I'm doing them wrong--and I don't put my butt high in the air. Maybe it's less a crunching feeling than a stretch?

My frustration is that I haven't been losing any weight and pics from a month ago don't show any difference I can see. I do the videos 5 hours a week total. My posture is better. I feel stronger. I don't tire as easily and my back feels more supported form all the core work but today I took my 3 batch of weekly photos (I thought it after my 1st week) and I feel totally discouraged! I've been eating less than 1400 calories a day and fear I need to cut back further.
I'm 5'6" and 130lbs trying to get back down to 120. The last *stubborn* 10!

I'm curious what kind of calorie intake others are trying. Really curious so I don't lose all hope.

Hi Change4theGood! Those last 5-10 pounds are always the most difficult. On Jillian's radio show, she calls them vanity pounds. Essentially, you don't need to lose those pounds to be at a healthy weight, you just want to be smaller. Because of that, you really need to increase the intensity of your workouts. She also said to eat about 1500 - 1600 calories at this stage (which I'm a little unsure about). So try increasing the weights and doing the advanced modifications of all the moves.

You must be tiny, by the way! I haven't been 5"6 and 120 since I was 12 and gained 3 inches over summer vacation! I tend to put on a lot of muscle, so I don't think I'll ever be below 130 again.

Thanks for the response!
When you recommend increasing weights--do you mean the weight of the dumbells for the videos?
I have a small frame so 120 on me is my normal. I'm not overweight and many would say I don't need to lose it. But I have fat around my stomach that I can grab in like a nice lump of dough in my hands. And I'd like to lose that.

Mainly, I gained the weight in the past two years during a tough job and I just don't wanna buy all new clothes! And I don't want to forever associate the fat with work.

1500-1600 seems high to me. I thought Jillian's recommendation for weight loss calories for women was between 1200 and 1400.

I suspsect I have to go lower on the calories.

It's great you have a lot of muscle on you! That'll do you very well as age and prevent osteoporosis, plus they'll take up nice shape as you do the workout videos. How long have you been losing?

Sylvied: I was just like you! I loved the 30DS since it's only 20 minutes so I could spare 20 minutes of sleep. It sucks but I have just decided to get up a whole hour in advance with these two DVDs, it's worth it though, I feel so awake and alive at the end of them, especially the Banish Fat one because it's all cardio.

Does anyone know when the next biggest loser starts? This sounds totally ridiculous but I loved watching the show while I was doing the 30DS, it felt like I had Jillian as my own little trainer haha!

I've been dieting and exercising since mid-April. I haven't seen a large amount of weight loss, (again with the muscular thing) but my body is way stronger and looks much better.

I thought her recommendation of 1500 - 1600 was high too. Apparently she only recommends that for the last 5 - 10 pounds to lose. Maybe because the intensity of the workouts is higher? I'm not sure. I'm currently eating between 1350 and 1450.

As for the weights, if you currently use 3, move up to 5 pounds etc. The heavier the weights, the more calories you burn!

Which of the videos do you all think burns the most calories?

I really like them all. But I sometimes feel I need a harder one than NMTZ. Or maybe I'll take Festivus' recommendation to increase weights and then eat my words!

The last circuits on all the 30DS videos kill me. But I'm pleasantly surprised that I've gotten SO much stronger. I never thought I would get the videos without thinking I was dying!

So I'm back from my vacation week! I only worked out "officially" once. But I was pretty active in general, so I'm not beating myself up.

Kinda interesting, I noticed that I actually looked smaller a few days after not working out. I knew my muscles were retaining water from all the hard work, but I didn't realize just how much!

So I'm back on the band wagon tonight or tomorrow morning. It's good to be back!

I know you posted last month, but here is the forumula that tells you how many calories you need to lose weight at your height, weight and age.

Step 1 Get your BMR

655+ (4.35 x 132) + (4.7 x 66) - (4.7 x__) =

That formula equals your BMR. (The blue is your weight acording to your profile, the purple is your height in inches. I don't know your age, so therefore you must add your age to the area highlighted pink in order to get your BMR)

Step 2 Times your BMR by activity level

(I'm not sure how active you are, so you pick one of the following)

BMR x your activity level at 3-5 days a week times by 1.55 =
or BMR x your activity level at 6-7 days a week times by 1.725 =

Step 3 Minus a calorie deficit from your total

Create a calories deficit of -500 calories from that total or -1000 calories from that total. -500 gives you one pound weight loss per week, -1000 gives you a two lbs weight loss per week. Don't go beyond a 2 lbs weight loss per week, or you will start to lose muscle. And don't go below 1200 calories a day, or your body will go into starvation mode, and you will not lose weight.

Hope that helps

It is totally worth it!!!! I see more results from these videos than from 30DS, but you have to work for them! It can be tough to finish an hour work out when you get used to 20 minutes!

Has anyone tried Jillian's Cardio Kickboxing?
At the beginning, she tried to give me a scare by calling me a "brave soul"...
I was ready for a major butt-kicking but when it was over, I thought, "that's it?"
Either I'm getting fitter or Jillian was playing tricks on me.
Anyways, I really like it although it's quite short, and as I said, not too intense. I'm pretty attached to BFBM so I'll alternate between BFBM, Cardio Kickboxing and maybe I'll finally try NMTZ

Anyways, I decided I would try something different just to mix it up and prevent boredom so I did one of the Crunch Fat burning Pilates dvds, anyways, when it got to the end my reaction was literally "that's it? it's over?" hahaha I have NEVER said that at the end of a workout dvd, it just goes to show how Jillian's workouts just put everything other video to shame!

Hi there! Congrats on your new start! I would highly recommend you start with Jillian's 30 Day Shred, level one. Work your way up through level 3 and then move on to BFBM and NMTZ. It also depends on your current fitness level, but if you are a beginner, just use the beginner modifications and lighter weights. you can do it!!!!

You can watch all of Jillian's videos for free if you have Comcast (in the exercise tv section of On Demand). Otherwise, the dvds are cheap on amazon.

Hi Guys,

I'm planning to buy BFBM and NMTZ this week (30DS is starting to feel a little old and I need to shake it up a bit). Now with 30DS I just needed weights (and mat) do I need to get anything else for these other two? And if weights are involved would you recommend sticking with the same weights as I used in the 30DS or going up or down?

Thoughts?

Yay Sylivied!!!! You don't need anything else for these videos. I had to go back down to 3 pound weights for NMTZ, but give it a try at wherever you are at with 30DS. It's going to be tough, and seem REALLY long after 30DS, but give it your all, and you can do it!

I don't know what size weights you used for 30ds, but I use 5 lbs for both. I feel like its easier in NMTZ with the higher weights and i didn't have to drop them as much as i did (and still have to do) with 30 ds.
I think using whatever you have on hand should work, either 3's or 5lbs. Maybe try it once and if you feel like its too hard/easy pick up some diff. weights?

Thanks for the advice.

I finally tracked them down. I had to go to the store when I had time to wait for a salesperson to search high and low for them (they were in some back office somewhere) but I have them in my hot little hands.

I've been preparing for the longer workout by doubling up my 30Ds for the last couple of weeks, omitting the first cooldown and the second warmup so hopefully the length won't hit me too hard. I've been using 5 lb weights throughout. They're starting to feel too light for some of the exercises but perfect for the others so I'll keep them for now.

But the woman at the checkout told me that she couldn't walk after she first did NMTZ so I'm getting a little nervous and I don't think I'll do the first round as part of my early morning routine as I need to be able to walk to get to work. I'll start in the evening or on a weekend morning.

NMTZ is really tough. It has been, to date, the only workout that has actually made me cry. I didn't quit though. I dried the tears and pushed through it. Like Jillian says, if we stop when things get uncomfortable, our bodies will never change.

Well I bought them and I started Monday afternoon with NMTZ. It was an awesome but exhausting workout. Yesterday morning I started BFBM and somewhere in the middle, I did something to my rhomboid or trapezius muscles and have been in pain so no workout this morning. One of the people I work with commented that I was walking like C3P0. It helped to keep my elbows up and bent :).

It seems to be easing off so I think I'll do some yoga tonight and see if I can handle a workout again in the morning.

They're really thorough workouts though, especially NMTZ...I can practically feel my body changing, which excites me a lot.

izzystizzy - I've had reasonably good results with the videos. I haven't lost as much weight with them as with 30DS but I think I'm experiencing a bit of a natural slow down in my weight loss anyway.

For awhile I was just doing NMTZ and that was a problem for me as it didn't get my heart rate up high enough to burn fat, so while I was toning my muscles, I wasn't losing any weight. So now I'm making a point of doing cardio as well and I seem to be losing again.

I like NMTZ better than BFBM so while the weather is good, I've been jogging on my cardio days instead of using the video, but it is a good video and when it gets cold, I will be using it again.

I've never ever thought about doing a fitness video in the past, I thought it was silly to stay inside (in my tiny apartment) and I had all sorts of really old-fashioned ideas about the kinds of instructors who make them, and just didn't even give it a chance. But for some reason, with Jillian it's different, she's someone I want to listen to and be pushed by, and makes me think, maybe I can even cancel my gym membership now! I think I might get in better shape doing her videos than anything else. Although I will continue to run.

I really like that you don't need any equipment.

The music could be better though... kinda cheesy... maybe once I memorize all the moves, I'll listen to my own stuff.

ANyway, don't know if this thread is still active or not, but I just wanted to see if anyone is still working out to BFBM or just started it or whatever and want to support each other!
