have you had luck in having initial surgeon consultations covered?
I just want to know what my surgeon thinks and how much money I'll probably have to save. But I would like as much as possible covered, of course. Any experience? TIA!

I found a surgeon in my area that I think I am going to select. I will be seeing him very soon. I will let ya know what he says. I am having several things though--boosoms, TT to be sure.

I have a small umbilical hernia so I am hoping the anesthesia will be covered... probably that's it tho.

maybe I'll start looking when economy picks up.

I have a feeling I'm going to have to pay for mine (if I do it), but I'm wondering if I just want to go TALK to the surgeon and see what he has to say, if it would be covered. (I mean the consultation) Anyone know?

some surgeons will do free consultations, others will not. I do not think it would be covered. but if you have that consulting surg. do the procedure it should be taken off the whole of the cost-- i think.

Hi

I am an RN and work for a major healthcare insurer so I thought I would take a crack at your question.

It would be best to call the member services number on your ID card for a final answer but it has been my experience that if a procedure isn't covered under a member's plan then the consultation would not be covered either.

That being said alot of providers will not charge you separately for the consult but will bundle it with the cost of the procedure if you proceed. I would ask the office manager at the practice and get everything in writing.

Hope that helped and good luck to you!

My consult was free. Call and ask what the doctor's policies are. :)
