Can you believe we are starting week three? Yes, this challenge is going to fly by.

I slept in this morning so I feel like I am totally off schedule. I need to work with the dogs but I'll be back to check the other thread and post more.

Hope you all had a GREAT weekend.

Don't forget to post your WI before 11:59pm.

Hey everyone! Just did Jillian Michaels' Biggest Winner Shape-up Back for the first time (had that one and front just never tried them) and it was quite a workout for 20 minutes! Heading out for a walk/run now. I sort of overindulged yesterday but eating Flippers pizza, so gotta step it up this week!

On an unrelated note, my Nikon DSLR died last night. Not sure what is going on with it and I just bought it the last week of April. So, off to the camera store today in hopes they will exchange it for me, otherwise I've got to send it in to Nikon. I hope they will do something for me in store because I hate to be without my camera for weeks while it is sent away.

Hope everyone has a good week!

Hope everyone's Monday is off to a great start. Had trouble getting motivated to exercise over the weekend due to our cool weather (we had snow-blech).

Do we have a new QOTD to start us off? If not- here's one...

QOTD: Summer means BBQ season. What planning strategy will you use so you can enjoy yourself but not go wildly off plan?

I love Johnsonville Brats- but each one comes in at 300 calories! (and I've been know to eat more than one :o ) So my goal is to each just one without a bun or opt for one hotdog which for the brand we buy is only 100 calories.

Keep up the good work & here's to another great week Team Red!

Um, avoid all BBQs at any cost? Seriously, since all my family is back home in Alabama, this is no problem.

QOTD - My number one strategy is to avoid too many barbeques. ;) Then I'll eat a good breakfast, but make the barbeque be most the rest of the food I have for the day. If the bbq is for dinner, I'll have fruit for lunch, or vice versa.

QOTD:

We've already had one BBQ and I made a huge salad for my part. When I filled my plate, I made sure the salad took up more than anything else.

I am sorry girls. Some how I am up 1.5, and I just do not get it. I exercised more last week than I have in months. I took my lunch AND breakfast to work everyday, drank my water and Saturday I did so much yard work my legs hurt yesterday walking on the tm and today they are super tight and sore feeling. I just don't get it. But, tomorrow is another day and next Monday another weigh in.

Today has been crazy.... every time I try to get on here I get sidetracked. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. I didn't even get my workout in today. I need to go eat but I'll be on early in the am to run stats.

Hope you all have a good night, after I eat maybe I'll have a nice glass of wine; I definitely have the calories in the "budget".

QOTD: Summer means BBQ season. What planning strategy will you use so you can enjoy yourself but not go wildly off plan?

I always take a salad as my contribution and someone usually brings fruit. I have started eating and LOVE Amy Lou's Chicken sausage. Not sure how they will grill but I might have to try that here at home and maybe take those with me.

OK.... see you all tomorrow have a good night

Hi All,
Went to the second hand store today to get some pants. I got a pair of dress pants and a pair of capris, and the best part, they arequite a bit smaller!!!

QOTD: Summer means BBQ season. What planning strategy will you use so you can enjoy yourself but not go wildly off plan?

Since most of the BBQ's I go to are at my house then I have a lot more control of what is there. But areally good hamburger recipe I made up out of necessity one day ( DS had friends for lunch 2 large teen boys and less than one lb of ground beef) I grate some zuccini or yellow squash and an onion mix it with the ground meat, about equal amount, then make pattys. If you grate the squash on a grater then it looks like the meat and the onion hides the taste of the squash. The vege hating boys ate it all up and never knew they were eating veges. Last year I didn't have any squash so couldn't make it, but I think I'll make it for us again this year.

I hope everyone has a great week

I barbecue at home...lol Chicken, thinly sliced pork chops, the occasional bratwurst. Just recently discovered that I love asparagus grilled, I also like to make foil packets with veggies for the grill.

Well, I'm not much of a BBQer anymore...when I was a kid, we had them all the time. I did go to a couple last year though at a friends and since they are vegan, it was pretty healthy actually.

You upped your exercise, which builds muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat? And is it possible you're retaining water? Try increasing your water intake a little more and see if that helps....it is usually helpful for me. Also, are you getting enough sleep? My weight tends to increase when I'm not sleeping well.

I have been to several BBQ's this season already. usually I try to check the menu before hand to make sure they are grilling something on my plan and if it is just hamburgers and hotdogs I bring something to eat for myself. At home I grill turkey burgers or chicken with a TBS of BBQ sauce. I always bring carrott/celery something easy to transport and some type of fruit. I do not feel deprived I usually have to chase the baby so easy foods are the best for me.

Just ate my oatmeal (tried the oat & flax from Whole Foods for the first time and it is great!) and had my glass of skim milk. Workout is coming up in 45 minutes...I got lucky yesterday and found Jillian's Cardio Max at Sports Authority, so I'll be trying that workout. Then, I'll go out and take a walk/run.

I dont avoid BBQ. I go for the cut veggie platter with no dip. Lots of green leafie salads with tomatos, peppers all colours. And grilled chicken with a lite brushing of sauce. Onions & garlic wrapped in tinfoil grilled is also great! For dessert choices I take advantage of all the great seasonal fruit. And dip in yogurt! Yumm!

Anyway, I work at 5pm today, so getting some things done at home before I leave. BTW, I got my camera replaced yesterday at the camera shop which was great because otherwise, I would have had to send it away and not have a camera for 4-6 weeks.

QOTD: I grill daily, but when we go to friends, I start with salads, veggies or fruits and then will have one portion of what I like and make sure I drink water to help fill me up.
Johnsonville also makes a turkey brat, it has cheese in it and it's really not bad at all, taste wise and calorie wise. :)

I took a freebie this week cause I'm up almost 4#'s from TOM and didn't want to do that to the team. I know next week will be better.
Started strength training this week. I saw Jillian on exercise t.v. and she had 4 moves that worked upper and lower body, 3 sets of 20 reps, so I thought that would be a good start since I've not done that in a while, I'm using 5# dumb bells. And I did walk yesterday and this morning. I do need to post that in our exercise thread. Tomorrow is my kids last day of school, they're so happy and we'll get a lot of stuff cleaned up around here before they leave next week for my parents.
Well I need to do some cleaning up, we're having friends over this evening for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup. *GO WINGS*
Have a great day and I'll check in tomorrow.

Hi All,
More work in the garden today, weeded a very grassy row by hand, bent over, because couldn't tell where the vege and the grass were separate. It took a while, then put the fence up for the cucumbers to grow on. It has been several days of rain this weekend and the grass grew up fast. The potaos are sstarting to bloom, and I have a baby hot pepper. Also I saw a few blossoms on the tomatos. The garden survived the hail the other night, just lost one tomato plant and one cabbage plant looks beat up. I want to get some cherry or grape tomato plants and some onions in yet, just not sure where they will fit.

QOTD: Studies and experience have shown me that it takes 40 days to develop a habit that sticks. What habit would you spend the next 40 days developing, and how would you do it?

Since I started working on my diet and getting healthy I seem to have been working on it 40 days at a time figuring I can give up anything for 40 days. ( it started during Lent this year) I am going to spend the next 40 days developing the habit of movement. I am going to do it by every day doing something that means I have to move more, either parking farther away, not carrying the phone around with me in the house, walking around the yard in the evening, anything I can think of to avoid just sitting in the chair and staring at the tv.

I'm not sure who hasn't had a chance at doing a QOTD yet, but I'll pick RangerChic for the next question.

Thanks for all the help! I really drank a lot of water last week, but TOM is late:?: No chance of baby, just old age catching up to me I guess. I never get enough sleep. And what sleep I do get is very "light". I can roll over and wake myself up. I know that not getting enough sleep can cause all sorts of issues. Maybe when I get my exercise, diet and weight under control I can do some things to try and get my sleep cycle better. Whew...I'm just a mess:D

QOTD:

I'd love to make exercise a habit. I came so close once. I need to try again. 30 minutes at least everyday!

Ranger- I don't like the frontside and backside. they just seemed too easy for me. I love her kickboxing DVD, I just did it last night. I have sore abs and arms. Tonight I did Boost your metabolism for 30 min. That's a killer.

On the BBQ front. Someone was talking about brats. Johnsonville has turkey and cheese brats and they are like 130 calories each. And they are good. One of my summer treats.

I keep forgetting that we start a new thread on Monday's. I've wondered where everybody was on the old thread. I wish I could have posted weight today since I was 188.6, my lowest. Hopefully I'll get a few more pounds off by next Monday. I have a practice 5k tomorrow and the real thing on Sat. That should do some good.

QOTD: Studies and experience have shown me that it takes 40 days to develop a habit that sticks. What habit would you spend the next 40 days developing, and how would you do it?

Developing an exercise plan that I can stick to. It needs to be something that I enjoy, that I can easily fit into my day, and that doesn't require good weather. The "how to" is what I'm having trouble with....I think the starting point is making sure I get enough sleep so I'm not tempted to skip it because I'm "tired". And maybe I need to reevaluate my definition of success.....exercise is cumulative, but I don't consider it exercising unless it's 45 to 60 minutes at a stretch. In many ways, I think I set myself up for failure. So I'd need to look at the ways I do that and find ways to counteract them.

I would really like to get good at ZUMBA; it will take commitment and unfortunately I'm just not there. My question is why does it take just a few days to BREAK a habit?

I consulted with the surgeon yesterday and my gallbladder removal is scheduled for July 9th as an outpatient laproscopic procedure. I'm not looking forward to it but it HAS to be done.

Exciting news/brag for me.... I reached one of my mini goals; I now weigh less than Miss Tyra. I was thinking I had a few more pounds to go but apparently she has put on a couple in the last six months. I didn't realized how big she had gotten until I took this picture so I decided to run her by the vet and weigh her. I had not seen the folks at the vet in several months so they were ALL shocked when they saw me; it feels good to be shocking.

CruiseCAT- you pictures are great!! Congrats on meeting your weight loss goal. Sorry about your gallbladder but i can totally relate. I had my gallbladder out last June actually a year ago today. I did not know I had a problem. I was having some minor pain but ignored it. On a saturday night I had a pain so severe I could not stand it. I went to the ER and they took it out my gallbladder early that Sunday morning. I had 7 gallstones the size of golf balls. He said it was the worst he had ever seen in his career. The Dr said he was amazed that I could function because obviously my galbladder did not work for probably the past 5-7 years. Who knew. Anyway I have a few small scars and have never felt better. I was in the hospital overnight and went home the next morning with pain meds. I was nursing at the time so I did not take any thing but tylenol and did fine. I had to wear staples for a week after and had a small drain for a couple of days. after that except for some ER bathroom breaks I was fine. You will be too. You already are watching what yu eat and staying away from fried foods so to me that was the part i had to get use too. Good Luck- you will do great...

I would love to be able to exercise for 30 minutes or more everyday for 40 days. I have been consistant for the last few weeks so I think I am on my way to 40 days. I think there is something to it. I do not know if it is 40 days but it does take time. I know when i began my lifestyle change I thought I could never drink 64oz of water a day without being in the bathroom every 5 seconds and I got past that. Then I thought I would never be able to live without caffiene and it has been 3 months since i had a diet mt dew. So here is hoping to exercise catching on!!

Hi All,
Tonight I'm hurting all over, Once again I started gardening, but today I planted flowers and made a herb garden. It took about an hour to clear off the flower garden and get it planted, it was pretty weedy. I got spooked by a large garden spider, the body alone was about an inch long, and I hate spiders. We came to an agreement tho, since it left me alone I'll leave it alone. Then I went to plant my herbs, but decided the bed I was going to put them in wasn't right. I ended up digging a new bed about 3.5 ft square for my herbs. Digging out sod is no fun and a lot of work. I worked up quite a sweat. But I now have my herbs growing close to the front door where I can get to them easily. I planted thyme, sage, cilantro, oregano, mint, and stevia. Any one know how to use fresh stevia? I would love to be able to use it instead of sugar in stuff.
Tomorrow after work I'll do some hoeing in the garden, it's lots of work, but I want to work in the garden to lose weight, and to eat the veges to keep it off, a win win situation.
Everyone have a great weekend.

BetteK - I have no idea about the stevia. I have to tell you I really miss having a garden. I was going to do a patio one this year but just never got around to starting it.

I'm be gone most of the day, I've got to take my truck in for service and then Paula and I are going to the farmer's market and the movies.

Hope you all have a good day.

To say I was pissed is an understatement (TOM can get me moody ha). So, I ended up wasting a packet of Whole Foods oatmeal and making eggbeaters/egg whites. Yummy, but still not pleased about my oatmeal. I love eating it everyday as crazy as that sounds.

Cruise- I just showed my DD the pics of your puppy. All she could say was OMG!! She can't believe how pretty she is and how BIG!!! She would like to see a size comparison with you standing next to each other. on the running front, my friend says the same thing. She has a harder time running outside. We do most of our running at work, inside. I think you just get used to it. She was complaining about all the hills. Actually they were kind of little ones. I'm used to worse. It's funny how our perspectives change over time.

I squeked out a little more today. I saw 187.8. Now I must keep it going in that direction. I want 185 really bad.

Exercise! I just been doing my daily walking(and strength training 3x's a wk) and will increase from there. I have a mini calendar and smily stickers that I use each day I work out and seeing those daily helps keep me motivated.

I love hearing about the garden. My youngest wanted to do a garden this year so we got the seeds, just haven't gotten around to planting. So not sure if it's too late. But our fruit trees are bearing fruit. We have 16 trees out on our property and this is the first year we let them fruit. Can't wait to taste, gotta beat the deer though. ;) Especially with the cherry trees.
My boys are out of school now so that's why I haven't been around much. They leave next Wed for Tx, going to my parents house for 2 wks. Which will be really weird cause this is the first year they've gone without me. :(
I hope everyone has a great weekend. I will as soon as the dryer repair guy gets here and fixes my dryer. It was making a gawd awful sound, and when I checked it this morning, of course it sounds normal.
I'll check back later.

The weather here has been crazy; average for this time of year is in the 90's and I don't think we have been out of the 70's all week. They said on the news today that this was day 21 of below normal temps. I guess it's a good thing; I haven't had to have the cooler on but I also have not been able to enjoy the pool.

Do you all have plans for the weekend?

Cruise- I just showed my DD the pics of your puppy. All she could say was OMG!! She can't believe how pretty she is and how BIG!!! She would like to see a size comparison with you standing next to each other.

When Mack gets home next week I'll have him take a couple. I can do the timer if I go and sit next to her but not if I want her to stand.

QOTD: Studies and experience have shown me that it takes 40 days to develop a habit that sticks. What habit would you spend the next 40 days developing, and how would you do it?

staying away from sugar and exercising more regularly.

I think I would to learn how to make a habit of not turning to food when I'm emotional.

Cat:- I too have a little garden that's thriving and I'm super psyched about it! My strawberries are on their third season so the plants are hardy and the berries are just starting to turn red...I also am trying four different colored tomatos this year that seem to be doing very well so far! We also have cherry trees, but in the middle of the city I don't have any deer to worry about...just crows >-l

Today was race day. We did AWESOME!!! We were both shocked to see we finished in 38:10. That is great!! I even got a bonus.....third place in my age division. WHAT FUN!!!

Going out for my birthday tonight. I'm sure there will be drinking. I am going to try to keep it down. It's just a busy, fun filled, eat badly kind of weekend. I will certainly get back with it firm on Monday.

Sorry I've been MIA, I've just been spending all my internet time on putting in job apps. I hope you all are doing well. I lost .4 last weigh in, my eating has NOT been good. I've got to do better.

I really need to cut down on sodas. And I need to get on a consistent gym schedule. I'll have to think of a game plan.

For me, I reward myself by downloading some songs off of iTunes for my ipod or buying a new book. In fact, I just bought myself a new inspirational writing book yesterday. :)

Hi everyone! Sorry I was MIA for the past 2 weeks. I'm Liz :)

My husband and I bought bikes about a week ago, and I've been bike riding most days, and I've also started to run/walk a mile in my neighborhood. I had been working out mostly to DVDs, but then slacked off, and just couldnt find any motivation to do it. I think getting outside has helped a lot - I love riding and running (so far anyway!)

QOTD: How do you reward yourself when you stick to your plans and lose weight? A lot of us used to use food as a "reward," so what have you put in its place for rewarding yourself when you succeed?

Well, in the past I've bought clothes, or my last reward was once I got under 240lbs, I could buy a book I've been wanting - I did that, but never bought the book! :)

New clothes, makeup, jewelry, nail polish, accessories (like a new purse or pair of shoes), music or TV shows to download to my iPod (hour long shows are approx. 45 min. long when they cut out the commercials so perfect for when I'm on the treadmill...the time flies by so quickly!).....going out to a movie, money saved toward travel.....I have lots of ways to reward myself that don't involve food! :)

Clothes, books, DVDs or a nice long bubble bath complete with candles and total silence!

Whew! Just finished a tough week at work and another one's coming up. Plus there's VBS this week and Father's Day on Sunday. Busy, busy, busy. Did great with my eating last week, but not with my exercising. I'm trying to plan better for this week so I can fit it in.

:bravo:Mindy on your 5K. I just think that is awesome and would love to be able to do that someday. You Rock!

Hi All,
Way to go MTiger on your 5K!!

Hi Liz, glad to see you, better late than never.

QOTD: How do you reward yourself when you stick to your plans and lose weight? A lot of us used to use food as a "reward," so what have you put in its place for rewarding yourself when you succeed?

I'm still trying to work that out, money is real tight, and I usually don't buy clothes until I have to. I guess my last reward was my new herb garden, I spent a lot on the plants. Otherwise a new book.

Sorry everyone I seen to be back to my cycle of losing then holding for a week, next week I hope I lose again.

Kelleigh: I have VBS this week too, I'm in charge of the music, so will be moving around a lot I hope.

I bought some new pants for work this week, I went to the cosingment shop and even tried them on, they fit lots better than what I was wearing, but I should have tried the size 16s because the 18s I bought are pretty lose too. I guess I'll wear them for a while, they are still better than what I had. I couldn't imagine that I could fit in a 16, the 18s were a milestone. Next time I'll go smaller.

Clothes. It's all about the clothes. It has been so long since I could wear cute things, I'm afraid I have turned into quite and addict. I don't mind spending $$ on tops since I'm sure I will wear medium forever. Bottoms I restrain myself to a handful. This is fun!!!

Tired out after so many things going on this weekend. I only managed a 3 mile walk today. Still hoping for some good results for weigh-in tomorrow. Good luck everyone!!!

 girls.

OMG I hate the heat! Today was hellish. I had the bright idea of cutting through a new subdivision to get to my second bus since my first bus doesn't run on Sundays. Well, this subdivision apparantly doesn't go all the way through, this I did not know and I ended up walking around and around, up and down hills, slowly dying. I swear I started hallucinating, I thought I saw my mama's car! It was about 100 degrees today! I was sweating buckets and I had to stop because I thought I was going to faint. Finally, I called Mrs.Allison and thank god she was home and she came and got me. I felt sick for the rest of the day and I still have a bad headache. :headache: In all, I spent over an hour walking around in the heat. :hot:

On a happier note, I just saw a commercial for my baby Gerard's new movie 'The Ugly Truth'. *sigh* He's such a sexy beast. :whoo:

P.S. Lonesome Dove is one of the best movies of all time.

I reward myself with whatever I can afford at that time. It could be a piece of clothing, a book, dvd, magazine, etc.

Mindy that IS AWESOME. You should be VERY proud of yourself.

Happy birthday, last night while I was having my glass of wine I thought about you as I tipped my glass.

I'm not big on rewards. For me I had clothes from 6 - 16 so I'm good there and the only time I will spend money on a mani/pedi is when I go on vacation. For me I guess it would be that I am kinder to myself and am more willing to go out and socialize.

Hi everyone! Sorry I was MIA for the past 2 weeks. I'm Liz :)

I have always(in the past) used food as a reward. It is how my family celebrates everything from Birthdays to job promotions. It is a habit that I have officially broken as my B-day was Saturday and I did not eat cake or anything that was not on plan. I decided that I am going to reward myself by staying on plan and meeting my overall weightloss goal ahead of schedule and then I will have to buy new clothes and get to buy what I want not whats only in my size.
